The Moon Aligning Directly Over Kaaba:

On Friday, the full moon aligned directly over the Kaaba which has been a rare occurrence. Muslims all around the world pray while facing towards the Kaaba and this event allowed them to determine the accuracy of the direction of the Holy Mosque so that they pray the right way.

The event was witnessed by those in the vicinity of the grand mosque who was the moon directly above the Kaaba on the first hour of Friday.

“This will be followed by the moon’s alignment with the Kaaba at 12:43:35 a.m. KSA time, or 09:43:34 GMT, at an altitude of 89.57.46 degrees,” Majed Abu Zahira, president of the Jeddah Astronomy Association, announced the event for public awareness.

“The moon’s disc will be fully illuminated at 99.9 percent at a distance of 381.125 kilometers from Earth. It will then remain visible for the rest of the night until it sets with the rise of the sun on Friday,” he further added to his statement posted on Instagram.

The Kaaba, also referred to as the Khaana-e-Kaaba is believed to have been built by Prophet Abraham (A.S), referred to as Ibrahim in the Arabic and Urdu texts and his son Ismaeel (A.S). The place holds a dear place in the heart of Muslims and is the direction which is where everyone prays five times a day, every day.

As per the Middle East Monitor, the full moon appears directly over the Kaaba once a year and is an opportunity for Muslims to check the accuracy of their devices or apps they use to find the accurate direction of the Kaaba.

Saudi Quran TV streamed the event live where the full moon could be seen by everyone all around the world.

Social Distancing And How The Pandemic Impacted Pilgrimage:

The coronavirus caused the government and scholars to reach a mutual consensus and set protocols for the safety of pilgrims which caused only a limited number of people to be allowed to do the pilgrimage.

The Holy Mosque only has a limited number of visitors these days who observe strict protocols that prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Many aspiring pilgrims and the Muslim community has been praying for things to go back to normal so that the Hajj and Umrah could resume.

5. Shahid Afridi

Indian actress/model Arshi Khan accused Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi of having an extramarital affair with her. She tweeted news saying that she was in love with him.

“Yes, I had sex with Afridi! Do I need the Indian media’s permission to sleep with someone? It’s my personal life. For me it was love,” she had tweeted.

Shahid Afridi, however, dismissed claims of their alleged love affair terming it stupid.

6. Wasim Akram

Sushmita Sen and Wasim Akram met on the sets of a reality show the two were judging. Rumours regarding a possible relationship started circulating; however, later there was news of them parting ways.

In a chat with DNA, Sushmita had said, “I am extremely fond of Wasim. But if I start having an affair with every man I am friends with… Being in a relationship is a big deal and the day I am in one, I will surely tell everyone. I won’t keep people guessing.”

In an interview with PTI, Wasim had said, “I am really fed up with these rumours and speculations made in the media. I decided to take a year off from the Indian Premier League because I wanted to give time to my two sons who are growing up and need their father close to them. Right now my entire focus is on spending quality time with them. There is no plan in my life now to get married.”

1. Avoid Overcharge

Many of the times, phones heat up due to the charger being plugged in too long. After 100%, older model phones continue to draw current from it. It is better to charge your phone till 80% or 85% rather than draw it out to 99%

2. Don’t Keep In Direct Sunlight

If you’re in a location where sunlight is ample and heavy, make sure your phone is in a cooler place. Placing smartphones where sunlight directly shines on them causes them to overheat.

3. Close Unused Applications

If your phone does not have at least 4GB ram, it means that too many processes can overheat the phone. Even with 4GB ram, you cannot have many recent games running in the background.

4. Lower Brightness

No one needs to use the smartphone on maximum brightness 24/7. When you’re indoors, lower your brightness. This is another one of those times where auto-brightness is quite useful.

5. Bluetooth, Data, and GPS

All of these can be stated separately, but individually, they are fine. Running all three together for elongated periods of time can cause Overheating. Make sure to close them when not using them.

6. Don’t Hoard Applications

Delete applications which are not of use to you on a day to day basis. It does not do well for a phone to have unnecessary installations and apps. Sometimes, some may run in the background without your knowledge, causing the phone to heat.

7. Gaming With Breaks

If you’re an avid mobile gamer, it is recommended to not game for a lot of consecutive hours. If you’re playing PUBG, let the phone rest after 4-5 games.

8. Remove Phone Case

If your phone cover is too tight or too closely packed, it can even prevent heat from escaping. Removing the phone case at times can cause the phone to cool down.

9. Charging Cable

Sometimes, the battery is not full, and the phone still heats on charging. If the phone overheats while charging, there may be an issue with the charging cable. Try replacing it to see if it really is not very accurate.

10. Airplane Mode

Sometimes, a phone should be on airplane mode when not in use. If you’re at the beach and the phone is lying outdoors, too, turn the airplane mode on. It’ll make up for the high brightness needed outdoors as well as sunlight.

Pakistan Opens Up Series In A Style With Debutant Nauman & Fawad

Pakistan hosted the South African Test team after a gap of 14 years, and the way Pakistan team played and won against the fifth-ranked team was a treat to watch.

The team not only played well but made several individual records from some of the old players reliving and some making their debut memorable.

The men in green defeated the Proteas by seven wickets with the help of a ton by the man of the match Fawad Alam and a five-wicket-haul by the debutant Nauman Ali.

The visitors won the toss and chose to bat first, but the Pakistani bowling attack of didn’t let them bat for long and bowled them out for 220 runs on an opening day with the help of Yasir Shah taking three, Nauman Ali and Shaheen Shah taking two each, and Hasan Ali took one.

The opening day not only saw the fall of 10 South African wickets but Pakistan also lost four wickets on 33. However, the innings were saved by two strong partnerships steered by the 35-year-old Fawad. He stood on the crease with Azhar Ali (51) to add 94 runs to the team total and further added 102 runs with Faheem Ashraf (64), to end the innings with the 158-runs lead.

Fawad scored his second ton since his comeback in the team, he scored first in the second inning of the first test against New Zealand and now scored another ton scoring 109 runs off 245 balls against South Africa’s first inning.

South Africa came into bat and lost their first wicket with a review on 48 runs. The next batsman Rassie van der Dussen (64) stood on the crease with Aiden Markram (74) to build a 127-runs partnership, which broke when Yasir Shah took his second wicket-taking Dussen down.

After that, the wickets kept falling, and South Africa came from 175-2 down to 245 all out, courtesy Nauman Ali’s five-wicket-haul (5-35). Yasir Shah’s 4-79, and Hasan Ali’s one wicket.

Chasing the target of 88 runs, Pakistan, without wasting any time completed in 22.5 overs with seven wickets remaining. Unbeaten Azhar Ali scored 31 runs, and Babar Azam (30) while the winning shot was played by the player of the match Fawad.

Before Pakistan team move to Rawalpindi for the second test to be held from February 4 to February 8, let’s go through the key moments of first test.

Nauman Ali becoming 12th Pakistani to take 5-for at debut

The 34-year-old Nauman is the fourth oldest Pakistani debutant in Test. He played 80 first-class matches and took 292 wickets for Northern team before he was given a chance in the National team. His best bowling figures in an innings are 8-71.

He was the second-highest wicket-taker of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2020/21 season with his 61 wickets in 10 matches and had the best bowling figures of 7-35 and 7-84 both against Central Punjab.

On his debut, he was able to take two wickets in the first innings and five wickets in the second to become the 12th Pakistani player to take five-wicket-haul on debut match.

After waiting for years, the 35-year-old player Fawad got chance in the National team proved that he could be a reliable middle-order batsman. Before his entry in the team, the middle-order had the likes of Younis Khan and Muhammad Yousuf. It was sudden and kind of unrelated to our region, but whatever happens in the US, we like to stay informed of it, don’t we. But if you are still having the below-mentioned reaction to the GameStop references, let me give you an overview of it.

Drama Context

GameStop was a regular shop for toys and consoles. Hedge funds apparently decided to sell it short. That means that you are intentionally making the company lose stock value. However, millennials got together on Reddit and decided to up it for GameStop. So they started buying it. When demand rose, so did Game Stop’s value.

The change became so noticeable that none other than Elon Musk also tweeted about it.

Why is this scenario tweetable by someone belonging to the Bloomberg Billionaire Index?

Because the Reddit millennials had basically made a fool our of hedge funds people, some even said that this was a payback for the 2008 financial crisis.

And you know when millennials are involved, they need to troll whoever they are up against. So right on time, toll memes about GameStop and against the hedge funds started appearing.

Toyota Takes Lead Over Volkswagen To Become World’s Top Car Seller

Japanese car manufacturer Toyota Motor Corporation took the lead over German-made Volkswagen in terms of sales. It ended up becoming the world’s top car seller for the first time in the past five years as the pandemic affected its German competitor.

Margin Between The Sales Of Toyota and Volkswagen:

On Thursday, Toyota announced the global sales were decreased by approximately 11.3 % to 9.528 million vehicles in the year 2020. Simultaneously, Volkswagen’s sales declined by 15.2 %, which brought the German automaker to second place in terms of sales.

The automotive industry suffered severely amid pandemic when the initial phases’ lockdown brought the global imports & exports to a halt. The investors were hesitant to invest as social distancing and quarantines were encouraged, which lead to more people being vigilant of their excessive spending and not walking out to the showrooms to buy vehicles due to the uncertainty caused by the coronavirus.

Toyota took complete advantage of this gap as Japan was comparatively less impacted by the pandemic, and therefore this gave Toyota leverage against its European and American competitors.

Toyota also mentioned the growth in electric vehicle sales as the electric cars contributed to 23% of total sales in 2020, contrary to 20% in 2019.

It may also be important to note that Tesla got ahead of Toyota last year and became the world’s most valued automaker. Toyota also revamped its logo last year, which has not been reflected on the logo placed on its cars. Volkswagen has a more established position in the European Union countries that were severely impacted by the pandemic.

Toyota Pakistan’s Plan For 2021?

Last year, Indus Motor Company had an eventful year where they launched many new cars in the Pakistani market, including the Toyota Yaris and the Facelift version of Fortuner and Hilux. The company has been criticized for not making an effort to progress and innovate to bring the latest automotive advancements from Toyota, Japan, and recycling old models and features with minimum updates and advancements.

Karachi Circular Railway Service To Resume Shortly

The resumption of Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) was in the talks for some time. But having paused for ages, there had been numerous illegal settlements on its path. So before restarting the service, it was essential to clear out the logistics for it. However, now the action is being implemented on what was just the idea. And we know this because Pakistan Railways announced it on Thursday.

From Orangi to City Station

They said that on the directive of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, they would soon revive KCR from Orangi Town to City Station. Muhammad Hanif Gul, the new divisional superintendent of Karachi, visited the 14-kilometer circular railway track, and that marks the progress of the project.

Overseeing the removal of illegal settlements and encroachments, and rehabilitation of the tracks, the superintendent said:

“The KCR commuter service would be extended from City to Orangi stations.”

Gul got the brief of the project from the Project Director KCR Ameer Mohammad Daudpota. It is expected that once the track connects with KCR’s operational route, it will be a major achievement in the goal of reviving the local train service.

Karachi Circular Railway

KCR line spreads over 29.41 km including the 13.69 km track of Pakistan Railway that extends from the City Station to Drigh Road Station.

Since it is a major project, KCR was only partially made operational last year in November, from Pipri for freight operations. But the work continued on the rest of the track and it is said the entire track, all the way to City Station will be operational. This will come as a piece of good news for many who have to persevere Karachi’s disastrous traffic every day.

You must already be aware of Sony if you are a fan of flagship products. There was a time when Sony cameras were the best ones on the market. Additionally, it is said that the phone will have an 8-megapixel selfie camera, all fitted inside a tear-drop sized notch. That is barely any size for a camera, yet they manage to pull it off. It will also feature a 13-megapixel dual camera array as the main camera, with a 3.5mm jack and a side-mounted fingerprint reader on the power button. Are these not extremely interesting specs, considering it’s a compact?

Not a lot of software-related detail is known about this phone, though. One of the biggest queries by people is whether the company will be able to deliver exactly as promised. It can be quite a challenge to integrate the latest-gen in a small size, provided one does not compromise quality.

How to Protect Personal Files & Data Stored in Google Drive

In an effort to protect the data stored on drives which you do not want to get leaked, Google has introduced a new option for its Google Drive which limits downloading, printing and copying of any file in the Google Drive by the shared users.

Under the Information Rights Management (IRM), people will be able to enjoy more control over their content after the incorporation of this feature. Though a feeble addition to a much bigger upshot, this feature will give users a leg up.

The feature is applicable to all the apps in Google Drive; documents, spreadsheets, presentations, photos. And it is very simple it in motion.

1. Open your file in Docs, Sheets, Slides or Photos on Google Drive.

2. Click on the “Share” option on the right top corner of your file.1

4. Check the mark with “Disable options to download, print and copy for commenters and viewers” option.

5. Save changes, and you have safeguarded your information against privacy invaders.

Simple and easily employable as it seems, Google avoids setting the developers off and enables them to administer it using Google Drive API.

However, these settings can be enabled by the file owner only and can be accessed through the website only. One disadvantage of this feature is that it will obstruct shared users from all three functions simultaneously.

Once activated other users will not be able to download, print and copy without owner’s permission.

In order to enable someone else to alter accessibility rights, the owner will have to share ownership rights with him/her. Although it will relieve the users but not completely, the people with whom the file is shared with can still take a snapshot or copy the content manually.

While Google acclaims this feature as “perfect” in situations you need to refrain leakage of information from your files containing “sensitive information.”

Kraft Mac n Cheese Turns Pink & Twitter Is Exploding

One thing I know from watching all those American and Canadian dramas is that they love their Mac n Cheese. They can have it as breakfast, they can have it as a ‘get over your boyfriend’ snack, or they can have it for dinner. So it’s safe to assume that they would already be in love with Kraft’s Mac n Cheese as well. But that doesn’t limit the brand from trying new stuff.

And hence, this time, with Valentines Day right around the corner, they have decided to go all pink to portray the love in the air. To further emphasize it, the dish will be candy flavored. What’s more is that it is a limited supply product, so it will be a race, getting your hands on one from only a thousand.

What would the product look like?

It’s not so different. The package will have a standard Mac n Cheese. But it will be accompanied by the packet of the pink candy-flavor powder.

As you can expect, with only 1000 products, the company cannot accommodate its entire audience. So to get this product, people have to be part of a Sweepstakes.

The deadlines are different as well; for the US, the deadline is February 8th; meanwhile, for Canada, it starts from Feb. 1 – Feb. 14. However, Canadians can still get it by “sweet-talking the brand on social media with one-liners and love poems.

It’s evident that people were going to comment on them, and so they did. Apparently, some were just plainly in love with this innovative idea. They couldn’t wait to try this sweet And pink Mac n Cheese.

Some, on the other hand, wanted to know about its taste. And Kraft was pretty responsive on that.

But some couldn’t sit well with it. They thought it looked like raw beef.

Well, now that you say it…

Others outright rejected it.

The billboard featured a programmable LED sequins billboard which brought the concept of shine to life. The billboard was the talk of the town and was visible from a very long distance as well. These billboards were deployed at high traffic zones in Karachi and Lahore.

Furthermore, Sunsilk deployed shimmer billboards with cut-outs at all major cities of Pakistan. Shimmer billboards were very eye-catching and represented the shine proposition of the brand.

The idea of thrift stores emerges from the concept of charity. It used to happen so that retail establishments could get a chance to raise money and donate it for good causes. And with the whole world establishing its digital presence, it was expected that the thrift stores would also shift to online platforms.

So Instagram and Facebook, the most popular platforms for businesses, started seeing online thrift stores emerging. With thrift stores, what mostly happens is that the used products are obtained for free almost. Hence, they can be sold at competitive prices, which are still ‘almost’ minimal.

However, Gram’s recent trend is that these online stores emerge, but you will find the goods posted there at prices you would buy preloved goods.

What is the difference between preloved goods and thrift stores?

Preloved goods are also second hand, but the name has been allotted to make it sound less harsh. However, they are only assigned to the preloved category if they have been kept in prime condition, actually loved by the previous owner. Only then can you charge what you yourself bought for PKR 2000 at PKR 1400.

However, thrift store products should also be in good condition, but they don’t have to be almost new. And honestly, it is an act where the idea is that people give some reimbursement for anything that they would like to possess, and the buyers actually feel nice for contributing to a good cause.

But what is actually happening in the Gram stores?

Or rather, what seems like it is happening on the online thrift stores.

People are going to the thrift stores and shopping at negligible prices. Later on, they take those products and put them up on their online pages at two or three times higher than the actual cost. What someone bought for PKR 2000 and donated to the thrift stores was priced at PKR 200. Another person bought it and put it up on the gram for PKR 1200.

Here is the thing, though. Had this money been actually going to the charity proceeds, one would not mind, not really. But if someone is choosing to exploit a good cause, that is just sad. Keeping this in mind, if we were to answer the question ‘Are prices justified?’ The answer would plainly be a no.

What Is It Basically?

Essentially, it is a refreshing drink best for summers. It is full to the brim with ice cubes and cold, refreshing sodas. However, what sets it apart is the strange pairing of flavors in this kulki soda. The secret ingredient, when unveiled, will surprise you entirely!

How To Make It?

The recipe is fairly singer but let’s get to the secret ingredient first. It’s none other than a green chili! We don’t know about you, but we like to keep our chillis in with our handis. Are you brave enough to dry a drink that’s literally made with green chili?

The recipe calls for a cup more than half full of ice cubes. Squeeze the juice of a lemon or two in it, depending on your taste. Next, as we see in the video, the green chilies are being de-seeded. So proceed to add a de-seeding chili in the cup. The green chili is often also put into giving the drink the “smell” of it. Although we’re not sure, this smell is a tantalizing one, yikes!

Next, you will need either Pakola (if you’re a fan!), or you can have a Sprite or another soda you’d like to add it. If you also like ginger’s taste, add a pinch of ginger to it to taste another level. What better combination than green chilies and ginger?

We’ve all had street-side vendor soda before, and just between us, despite how unhygienic it may be, it’s the best thing ever. We take ours with heaped spoons of Kala namak too! This kulki soda, however, is not an innovation. It is a fairly known recipe for a drink made by many, although as you can tell, it is an acquired taste.
