Why Trent Boult stepped away from International Cricket?

Trent Boult is arguably the best all-format fast bowler in this era, with Jasprit Bhumra and Shaheen Afridi. He is only 33 years old and has enough gas left in the tank to reach the coveted 400 wickets landmark in test cricket. However, he chose to give up that dream in order to spend more time with his family and make himself available for T20 leagues across the globe.

Boult had been in touch with New Zealand Cricket (NZC) for some time before his big announcement on Wednesday. He asked NZC to release him from his central contract so that he could spend more time with his family and make himself available for T20 leagues. NZC has complied with the fast bowler’s request and has granted his release, which “significantly reduced” his chances to represent New Zealand in international cricket. He will, however, complete the ongoing tour of the West Indies and is highly likely to be selected for the T20 World Cup in Australia.

“This has been a really tough decision for me and I’d like to thank NZC for their support in getting to this point,” Boult said. “Playing cricket for my country was a childhood dream and I’m so proud of everything I’ve been able to achieve with the Black Caps over the past 12 years.”

He further added, “Ultimately this decision is about my wife Gert and our three young boys. The family has always been the biggest motivator for me and I feel comfortable with putting it first and preparing ourselves for life after cricket.”

Trent Boult has been taking time off every now and then, to be with his family and deal with injuries. However, his recent decision is motivated by the financial security provided by T20 Leagues, where he can spend time with his family while making good money in quick time.

NZC released a statement explaining that Boult had made it clear to NZC chief executive David White that his appetite for touring had diminished and he wished to spend more time with his family.

Boult has not retired from international cricket but he is likely to play a lot less for New Zealand. White confirmed that Boult was aware of the ramifications of his decision and that NZC would prioritize contracted players.

“We’ve had several conversations and I know Trent understands that, in terms of selection, NZC will continue to make a priority of those players with either central or domestic contracts,” White said.

33 years old fast bowler also acknowledge that his decision would certainly affect his future selection for New Zealand.

“I still have a big desire to represent my country and feel I have the skills to deliver at the international level,” he said. “However, I respect the fact that not having a national contract will affect my chances of selection.”

Trent Boult has played 78 Tests, 93 ODIs, and 44 T20Is, taking 317, 169, and 63 wickets respectively. He has won the inaugural World Test Championship, while he was part of the runners-up side in the ODI World Cups of 2015 and 2019, and T20 World Cup 2021. In an ideal world, with age, form, and fitness on his side, he could have given a shot to play for another three or four years to play 100 Tests and pick 400 wickets, joining Sir Richard Hadlee, the only New Zealander to pick 400 test wickets. However, he chose to prolong his T20 franchise cricket career, while spending significant time with his family. He is expected to join one of the new T20 leagues in either the UAE or South Africa.

The plethora of T20 leagues in this era has affected international cricket in a big way, with players like Ben Stokes and Trent Boult stepping away from one format or another. There have been cases of players taking early retirement to give more time to T20 leagues, than hectic international tours.

In a T20 league, a player can generate more money than the value of the central contract in a month or two that a league season lasts, have a stable base from which to travel with your family and enjoy a more entertaining experience overall. With T20 leagues stacking the annual calendar, more players will likely step away from international cricket citing workload balance in near future.

The ICC stands awkwardly in the middle of this disastrous situation, trying to spread cricket as fairly as possible while being constrained by the decision-making member boards that seek to maximize profits with more T20 leagues. Although that may not be what the boards or ICC want to hear, the cricket schedule is rapidly approaching its limit.

SnackVideo secures ISO27001 and ISO27701 certification for security

SnackVideo announced it acquired the ISO/IEC 27701 and ISO/IEC 27001 certification in China and several other countries in Latin America, Southeast and South Asia, and the Middle East.

ISO/IEC 27701 and ISO/IEC 27001 is an international standard on how to manage information security. ISO/IEC 27701 is a privacy extension to ISO/IEC 27001 with additional requirements in order to establish, implement, maintain, and continually improve a Privacy Information Management System (PIMS). For SnackVideo, that proves that it is handling personal data with worldwide standards recognized in the industry.

Calvin Liu, head of SnackVideo Compliance, Communication Experience and Partnership says: This certification reflects SnackVideo’s social responsibility and commitment to user information security, marking that SnackVideo has reached the international advanced level.

The ISO/IEC 27701 and ISO/IEC 27001 detail requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving an information security management system (ISMS). It’s primary aim is to help organizations safeguard and protect their assets.

Standard Chartered Bank Pakistan Limited (SCBPL) has recently pioneered special Braille Inclusive Banking Forms, for the convenience of visually impaired citizens. Standard Chartered has also been deploying innovative technologies for world-class financial-services, besides enabling socio-economic growth for the impoverished and the persons-with-disabilities. Launched in collaboration with Pakistan’s Assistive Technology Startup – Boltay Huroof, this initiative will offer valuable facilities for the support and wellbeing of the Bank’s ‘Special’ clients.

Lahore: The wait is over! Bilal Lashari’s magnum opus – the most anticipated film of Pakistan, “The Legend of Maula Jatt” has an official release date now. The first teaser poster gives a glimpse of the iconic Gandasa, with a release date of 13th October. This date has finally been revealed after much speculation by the fans about various dates in the past few days.

The Legend of Maula Jatt is by far the most expensive film to come out of Pakistan. This intense and epic hero origin story, with a screenplay by Bilal Lashari and dialogues by Nasir Adeeb, is a hard reboot of the 1979 cult classic ‘Maula Jatt’. The film is directed by Bilal Lashari, known for his directorial debut, the box office megahit film ‘Waar’ and produced by Ammara Hikmat under the joint venture of Encyclomedia & Lashari films in association with AAA Motion Pictures. The filmmakers have partnered with Geo Films as their presenting partner, the largest media group, and a key contributor to the revival of cinema in Pakistan. The film will be locally distributed by Nadeem Mandviwalla of Mandviwalla Entertainment, who is well known for his work and contribution to cinema over the decades.

Internationally, the film will be distributed by MovieGoers Entertainment. A famous clothing brand has recently come under fire for stealing an artist’s hard work. The company used the artwork for piggyback marketing, using Arshad Nadeem’s latest win as a way to boost their sales. Even this wasn’t enough— they stole an artist’s rendition of the Olympic gold-medal winner. Here’s what’s going down:

What Happened?

A brand by the name of H&S apparel put out a deal to celebrate Arshad Nadeem’s latest win. They put up an artistic post with the javelin thrower inviting him to shop for free goodies worth Rs.50,000. This, according to them, is to support new talent and encourage him. This has happened many times— whenever our cricketers win something, they are given free vouchers and deals at places.

A marketing strategy at best and a failed theft at worse! H&S apparel had no idea that whoever’s artwork they stole would speak up about it.

Stealing Artwork

The artwork is by Mubarak who runs his page called Mubarak’s art. He posted his artwork on his site and page and H&S apparel thought they could steal it. Having seen this theft, the rightful owner of the art has been rallying support on social media to help him.

The problem is that H&S apparel first refused to admit that they stole the artwork. Then they said that the artwork was on a website that is loyalty and copyright free. However, as compensation, they have offered him a Rs.10,000 prize. The reason behind it? To support new talent.

Has The Issue Been Solved?

The issue is still not solved because the clothing brand is refusing to admit that they have stolen a hardworking artist’s work. Distributing cash prizes does not work. Moreover, why would they agree to give a cash prize if they haven’t stolen his work? All this seems very fishy and it also seems that they’re trying to cover this up as goodwill.

Burger King Customers Confused After Receiving A Blank Order Receipt

Burger King has confused a whole group of people by emailing them a blank receipt with many joking that they’ve made a ‘Whopper’ of a mistake.

In the early hours of 9th August, customers started receiving emails saying ‘thanks for ordering from Burger King’ – even though they hadn’t placed an order.

But when they opened the messages, they faced an utterly blank statement, causing a great deal of confusion.

Burger King Hacked?

An “internal processing error” is responsible for a bunch of blank receipts. The sender of the receipt was an official Burger King email account when emails were placed overnight into Tuesday morning. A representative for Burger King confirmed to Nexstar. The number of the recipients is unclear, but according to the reports, thousands got the emails in error.

“Thank you for ordering from Burger King!” reads a message included with the receipt. “Your order will be ready to be picked up at Burger King located at [blank].”

The order information listed within the emailed receipt was also wholly blank.

Twitter Reacts

The email recipients took to Twitter to share the details regarding the emails. “Did anyone get a blank Burger King receipt in their email? I’m just curious. I never eat there,” one user said

Burger King immediately took notice of the error as they responded to multiple customer queries on Twitter, saying, “Thank you for reaching out. We are aware of the issue and are investigating internally.”

Burger King representative says that an “internal processing error” was responsible for the blank receipts.

However, they declined to comment whether the emails were sent only to customers who signed up for the Burger King app or perhaps a broader email database. Meanwhile, it did not immediately appear that any email recipients had been charged or their information had been compromised.

OPPO to Showcase Technology Innovations Including Ray Tracing and Heterogeneous Computing at SIGGRAPH 2022

Global technology brand OPPO today announced that it will be participating in SIGGRAPH 2022. During the conference, OPPO will showcase its latest industry-leading innovations in areas including ray tracing, heterogeneous computing, AR, and digital humans, offering visitors hands-on experiences with these technologies.

OPPO Ray Tracing

OPPO first unveiled its plans in ray tracing technology at ODC 2021. During SIGGRAPH 2022, OPPO will announce the launch of new open-source ray tracing technology in the form of its Physray Engine 1.0, which will enable a new generation of visual experiences together with global partners. Meanwhile, the world’s first mobile, real-time ray tracing system application created by OPPO, the ColorOS Ray Tracing 3D Wallpaper, will receive an upgrade that OPPO users can download through the OPPO App Store. At meanwhile, users can experience the physics engine-powered wallpapers co-developed by OPPO and Tai Chi for the amazing effects.

OPPO will also demonstrate its latest technical progress in ray tracing with the Physray Engine 2.0. The new engine integrates more advanced ray tracing capabilities, including OPPO-exclusive ray tracing effects, a global rendering pipeline, and full path tracing. These new capabilities will also be available to all developers in the near future. At the show, OPPO will also showcase War Zone, a large action game scene based on the Physray Engine 2.0, and an animation that demonstrates the capabilities of full path tracing on mobile.

OPPO Heterogeneous Computing System

OPPO has long been investing in heterogeneous computing technology to explore heterogeneous software applications using different processing cores. OPPO’s heterogeneous computing technology is designed for performance and power optimization, helping developers better solve application performance problems and develop programs that run faster and more efficiently. At SIGGRAPH 2022, OPPO will showcase the latest gaming demos run on its heterogeneous computing system, which migrates all 2D rendering from the GPU to the DSP, reducing power consumption while optimizing system load. In terms of high-performance computing, OPPO will also introduce its self-developed lightweight and efficient inference framework and will demonstrate a video format conversion tool based on the technology.

OPPO Digital Human

The OPPO Digital Human is OPPO’s self-developed hyper-realistic digital human technology. The technology provides a realistic and unique interactive experience thanks to its lifelike appearance and personality built on AI capabilities such as semantic recognition, feature recognition, voice synthesis, lip syncing, and dynamic expressions. Pakistan registers progress in routine childhood immunisation

The latest WUENIC estimates of national immunisation coverage reveals that Pakistan improved its national routine childhood immunisation rates in 2021 and reduced the number of ‘zero-dose’ children (ZDC) who miss out on vaccines by nearly half – a strong recovery after the number of ZDC in the country rose significantly in 2020.

The percentage of children in Pakistan who received three doses of the vaccine against diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (DTP3) – a key proxy to measure for immunisation coverage, and the reach of health systems, within and across countries – rose to 83% in 2021, which is close to pre-pandemic levels, after experiencing a decline in 2020 (77%). Pakistan has also improved its first dose measles vaccine coverage by 2% between 2018 and 2021, and in 2021 launched one of the biggest measles-rubella campaigns in history.

The country’s progress in childhood vaccination and reducing zero-dose children is remarkable at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted essential health services, including routine immunisation, around the world. Zero-dose children are those that miss out on even a single dose of a basic routine vaccine, meaning that reaching them – and the missed communities they live in – improves the ability of the health system to protect its population.

Pakistan achieved these impressive results by maintaining and restoring immunisation services through, public-private partnerships for service delivery, 24/7 immunisation services in hospitals, integrated immunisation service delivery and extended evening and weekend vaccination in urban slums, amongst other collaborative efforts with partners.

Its progress is an example of how countries can maintain, restore and expand routine immunisation, while remaining committed to fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. With support from Gavi and COVAX, the country has also vaccinated close to 130 million people (around 56% of the total population) with a primary series of two doses.

Following a global rollout of historic scale – with more than 4 billion COVID-19 vaccines rolled out by lower-income countries – Gavi and partners will be focused on supporting countries’ efforts to integrate COVID-19 into routine immunization programmes, leveraging opportunities to increase uptake, demand and delivery of life saving vaccines – and supporting the road to recovery and expansion of coverage.

Dr. Tokunbo Oshin, Director of High Impact Countries at Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance comments on Pakistan’s progress:

“Pakistan has demonstrated its resilience and commitment to immunisation through the impressive progress it has achieved in expanding childhood vaccinations at a time when essential health services, including routine immunisation, have been disrupted by COVID-19 pandemic.

The reduction in the number of zero-dose children is particularly significant given the reduced access to vaccination centres during the pandemic, and the multiple health priorities the country had to attend to. It underscores the persistence of the government, health workers and partners who have pushed forward and improved the reach of immunisation programmes while continuing to ensure COVID-19 remains a priority.

We as a Vaccine Alliance will continue to work with Pakistan and other countries to ensure the greatest number of people can access the life-saving protection of vaccines.”

Facts and Figures:

DTP1 – the first dose of the DTP vaccine – is a key measure of how many children receive that first, critical dose of a vaccine. In Pakistan, the number of ZDC increased significantly in 2020 – to 1 million children. However, through concerted efforts to reach ZDC, Pakistan cut this number in half – improving DTP1 coverage from 77% in 2020 to 83% in 2021.
Pakistan has received about 111 million COVID-19 vaccine doses from COVAX (as of 26^th July), representing approximately a third of the supply to the country.

NIC Presents Fintech Hackathon 2022

Islamabad: 4^th August 2022 , The National Incubation Center (NIC) Pakistan’s first of its kind and largest Incubation center, is hosting yet another exciting FinTech Hackathon in collaboration with Allied Bank (ABL), one of the largest banks in Pakistan. If you are a coder, UI/ UX Expert or a problem-solver with a passion for FinTech, here’s your chance to get a shot at PKR 1 million in prize money.

Hackathons are a great way to mobilize the community to find solutions to existing micro and macro-economic problems prevalent in the country. The NIC has teamed up with various organizations in to focus on some key economic areas of interest. The summer is far from over, don’t let the rains fool you. August is all about hot, scorching mornings and nights that soothe us with the pleasant winds. However, the day is still the same one which dehydrates us and makes us feel lethargic. That does us no good! So here’s a list of water-rich foods that you can keep consuming throughout the day to stay hydrated:

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are a fruit (can we accept this already?) that is rich in water. The water content in tomatoes is 94% making it an excellent water-rich food that we need to have on our plates. You could add tomatoes in your daily sandwich or you could put it in whatever dish you’re cooking.

Yogurt

How many of us desis can’t have any food without yogurt? If you’re one of them, you can be good to go. That’s because yogurt’s water content is 88%, making it a super good food to have when you feel dehydrated. You can have yogurt with food or simply as a really, really healthy snack.

Soups

Soups are a powerful strategy to not eat a lot of calories. Soups are made with more than 60% of water and so, they are fulfilling but really low on calories. Studies have also shown that those who have soup before their meals end up having much less calories because they’re full. Don’t forget to order it next time around!

Cucumbers

We can’t appreciate this vegetable enough. Cucumbers are 95% water so if you ever need a green veggie that will boost your water intake, this is it. You can have it in a salad with food or simply munch on them with some chaat masala sprinkled on top. Trust us, there’s no better snack out there.

Cottage Cheese

There are some intense cheese lovers out there who must be wondering when will cheese come on this list right? Cottage cheese is 85% water so it’s possibly the most healthy and hydrating cheese to be having. Paneer masala is amazing to have or you could have seasoned cottage cheese (dipped in chilli oil) for a brilliant meal.

Why Ego Is The Enemy of Good Leadership

Leadership is often misconstrued to be a higher position, managing a team and being the superior of a lot of people. However, the way today’s workplace looks, we couldn’t be more wrong. Leadership is more about how we are with our own selves and less about how we manage others. So, here’s why ego can ruin your ability to be a good leader and why it has everything to do with you:

How Can We Become More Egoistic?

As we rise in the ranks of power and reach senior positions, we can tend to create inflated egos. This means we consider ourselves the masters of our success and start believing what we have to say matters more. We interrupt people more, we listen to them less, we may become rude.

All these are signs of an inflated ego and they are the number one sign of poor leadership. When you get to higher positions, it is essential for you to manage your ego.

Hubris Syndrome

The hubris syndrome is a syndrome relating to ego and the workplace. It is define as tbe “disorder of the possession of power, particularly power which has been associated with overwhelming success, held for a period of years.”

When we rise to power, people also start paying more attention to us. They feed our ego, they laugh at our jokes. Our ego gets tickled. As a result, the hubris syndrome sets in and we start becoming a poor leader.

Why It Can Result In Our Downfall

Once people realise that we’re reeking with ego, they can catch onto that. Ego makes us predictable. Others can start manipulating us into achieving what they want either by tickling our ego or by challenging it.

Moreover, once we have inflated ego, other poor leadership skills start setting in. It means we only start aligning with those who affirm us, not those who challenge it. We can only work with those who praise us, not with those who are honest. Ego can help develop a tunnel vision and narrow mindset. Are these qualities of a good leader? You know as well as we do, ego is the killer of a good leader.
