Man in Ghotki Commits Suicide on Facebook Live Due to Depression!

Yesterday, depression caused by a failed relationship caused a man in Sindh to commit suicide while live streaming it on facebook.

He belonged to Gothki, and he unfortunately chose to shoot himself in the head in the 6 minute long video.

In the video he was seen addressing his loved ones in his mother tongue i.e. in Sindhi, where he explained that the reason behind his sadness was the failure of his relationship and that he was apologetic if he had caused anyone any pain while he was alive.

300 People Scared of Losing Their Jobs as Government Replaces PMDC with PMC

According to sources, his name was Munir Kalwar.

Here is what he said in his farewell address to his loved ones:

I can see no way out of this pain and hence ending my life. If I have done any wrong to my friends, I seek their forgiveness.

Even though they had six minutes, none of his friends and family could reach him in time and stop him from killing himself.

The video filled with tragic, triggering visuals is still on the Facebook and Twitter, and these platforms are yet to take it down.

Following the incident, Police took the body to Mirpur Mathelo District Headquarters Hospital.

The first time such an incident took place was in March this year, when a mass shooter in Christchurch, New Zealand, live-streamed a massacre of Muslim worshippers who were gathered there for Jummah prayers.

Johnsons & Johnsons Sued for Containing Cancer-Causing Mineral

johnson and johnson

It is safe to say that Johnson & Johnson is a household name for most of us.

Whether or not we have children at home, it is a brand whose product we can easily find in the house.

From baby powders to baby oil to baby lotion, each is useful and reasonably priced. However, Johnson & Johnson has found itself in the eye of a social media storm after federal regulators(FDA) found trace amounts of asbestos in a single bottle of baby powder purchased online.

Thousands of lawsuits are claiming the talc-based powder contains the cancer-causing mineral, as a result of 33,000 bottles of the product in US have been recalled as a precaution.

However, the company maintains that their product does not contain asbestos. Take a look at their statement:

“[J&J] has a rigorous testing standard in place to ensure its cosmetic talc is safe and years of testing, including the FDA’s own testing on prior occasions — and as recently as last month — found no asbestos,

Thousands of tests over the past 40 years repeatedly confirm that our consumer talc products do not contain asbestos. Our talc comes from ore sources confirmed to meet our stringent specifications that exceed industry standards,”.

J&J also said the company is currently investigating how these traces of asbestos were found in their bottle of baby powder so as to determine how the contamination occurred and whether the bottle is counterfeit.

Social media is lashing out on the brand after this news, with the fear that one of the most commonly used products can be so harmful, especially to their young ones.

Instagram to Add “False Information” Labels to Curb Fake News

instagram

Facebook has doubled its methods of preventing fake news and false information from going viral on its platforms.

Now, the company has decided to introduce ‘false information’ labels to prevent them from being shared further on Instagram.

Facebook will hire fact-checkers as per the official announcement. The labels, which will roll out over the next month, will appear on posts in Stories and Instagram’s main feed.

Instagram users will have the ability to view the original post, but they will have to click ‘See Post’ to be able to view it.

The posts will look something like this:

Furthermore, those who want to share such posts will see a notice that reads the post has been debunked.

Before the post goes live, account managers will see a notice that fact-checkers say it contains false information, with a link to more information.

“In addition to clearer labels, we’re also working to take faster action to prevent misinformation from going viral, especially given that quality reporting and fact-checking takes time,” the company writes.

“In many countries, including in the US, if we have signals that a piece of content is false, we temporarily reduce its distribution pending review by a third-party fact-checkers.”

Instagram chief Adam Mosseri acknowledged on Twitter last week that Instagram was “still playing catch up” in its fact-checking efforts.

Jazz and Afiniti to Enhance Customer Experience Using Artificial Intelligence

jazz afiniti

Jazz, Pakistan’s leading digital communications company, and Afiniti, a multinational advanced analytics company, have partnered to implement Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions in customer service contact centers across Pakistan, fostering significant gains in customer satisfaction and revenues.

As part of its long-term commitment to meet and exceed customer satisfaction, Jazz engaged Afiniti to use their AI-powered contact center technology to optimize call outcomes at Jazz’s customer service contact centers.

By analyzing call histories and other CRM data, Afiniti’s algorithm predicts patterns of interpersonal behavior and matches callers with Jazz’s contact center agents best equipped to serve them.

“Industries globally are advancing rapidly thanks to AI and we wanted to use this technology for the benefit of our customers,” said Aamir Ibrahim, CEO Jazz.

Afiniti’s solution is intuitive, seamless and measurable, and a part of Jazz’s broader customer obsession motto. It’s one of many ways we’re creating consistently positive experiences for our subscribers and driving revenue -Aamir Ibrahim, CEO Jazz

Afiniti is the world’s premier provider of applied artificial intelligence solutions, having delivered billions of dollars in measurable economic value to its clients around the world.  We are proud to partner with Jazz to deliver similar value and enhanced customer experience to the largest mobile provider in Pakistan, -Zia Chishti, CEO Afiniti

Afiniti uses AI to identify subtle and valuable patterns within human interaction to pair customers and employees out of sequence on the basis of behavior. Pairing in this way transforms the quality of interpersonal interactions, driving measurable increases in enterprise profitability and customer success metrics.

Typically, customers contacting a business are routed to the first available contact center agent regardless of fit.

With Afiniti, callers are routed to the agent most likely to deliver a positive experience, in turn improving the company’s efficiency (average handle time, first call resolution), increasing revenue (sales conversion, up-sells, and cross-sells, retention) and improving customer and agent satisfaction (NPS).

Netflix Password Sharing: Aggressive Crackdown Begins!

Netflix password sharing

October 22nd, 2019: Netflix has revealed it is ‘monitoring’ people who hand out their passwords to their family and friends.

Greg Peters, chief product officer, shared that he would try to find ‘consumer-friendly’ ways to stop people from sharing one subscription.

When Peters was asked about the third-quarter earnings of 2019, he said:

“We continue to monitor it so we’re looking at the situation and we’ll see [whether there are] consumer-friendly ways to push on the edge of that but I think we’ve got no big plans to announce at this point in time of doing something different there.”

Furthermore, video software provider Synamedia, in a report, shared that roughly 26% of millennials give out the credentials for video streaming services to other people.

Netflix might use AI tech to monitor how many individuals are sharing accounts with groups of friends. According to Dailymail, the AI can then monitor a subscriber database for any potential fraudulent activity.

March 22nd, 2019: Previously, we reported that Netflix is preparing to end password-sharing with friends and family from one account.

The reason behind this move is to prevent the loss of business for one of the largest internet companies in the world.

Now, reports have surfaced that the crackdown has already started against Netflix password sharing.

netflix passwords

The reason behind this entire scenario is a 21-year old man in Sydney was selling stolen account details for online subscription services, including Netflix, Spotify, and Hulu. Authorities shared that he earned a whopping $300,000 from this on his site wickedgen.com.

Everyday password sharers on these streaming services may soon face a crackdown. According to ia.acs.org.au – a UK-based video software firm has developed an AI-driven tool that will allow platforms like Netflix and Spotify to pick up on unusual activity in accounts, such as accounts being used in two locations at once.

Unveiled at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas by Synamedia, ‘Credentials Sharing Insight’ aims to put an end to casual password sharing.

7 Turkish Dramas on Netflix That You Will Fall in Love With

Brace yourselves as you might not be able to share your Netflix account with your friends and family anymore as a UK-based video software firm has found a way to prevent users from sharing their passwords.

Synamedia unveiled its latest Artificial Intelligence (AI) software at the International Consumer Electric Show (CES) 2019 in Las Vegas and claimed that it will save the streaming websites billions of dollars over the next few years.

This AI system analyzes the account activity by using machine learning. The software will detect the unusual activities in the account, for instance, one account being used at multiple locations simultaneously.

Synamedia claims that it will recognize the accounts being illegally shared among multiple users. By paying an additional fee, users can have access to a premium shared account service that will allow a limited level of password sharing.

Netflix is Working on Cheaper Mobile-Only Subscriptions!

Chief Product Officer of Synamedia, Jean Marc Racine said:

Casual credentials sharing is becoming too expensive to ignore. Our new solution gives operators the ability to take action.

Many casual users will be happy to pay an additional fee for a premium, shared service with a greater number of concurrent users. It’s a great way to keep honest people honest while benefiting from an incremental revenue stream.

Synamedia claimed that the number of users who share their account details with friends and families on regular basis have cost the paid streaming industry billions of dollars.

Parks Associate, the US Marketing and Consulting firm, predicts that $9.9 billion of Pay-TV revenues and 1.2$ billion of OTT (Over The Top) media services revenues will be lost in 2021 due to credentials sharing.

According to the figures from market research company Magid, casual password sharing is very common among millennials. If you and your friends have a ‘mutual’ Netflix account then you might have to worry as this software aims to put an end to password sharing in the future.

Also, Netflix has recently announced to increase its price in the US by 13%-18%, the biggest increase since the company launched its streaming service 12 years ago.

Generation PK’s New Campaign Tells Us Not to Throw Away Egg Shells: Here’s Why!

generation pk regenerate

Karachi has a serious garbage problem, and only recently came news that the government was in talks with Turkey for helping clean the city’s trash.

This news surfaced after CM Sindh began his month long campaign called Clean my Karachi and soon realized it was a task that Karachi couldn’t possibly do alone.

Not to forget, it was also announced that anyone spotted littering will be liable to a fine. It was a good way to change the littering habit of Karachiites.

‘Clean My Karachi’ Drive Looks Successful with 7,000 Tons of Garbage Lifted on 1st Day

Anyway, littering is not our only problem; we do not know how to manage our trash. For example, instead of dividing our daily trash into categories like plastic and glass, we dump everything together and are relieved as long as it is picked up by the sweeper.

There is a lot of trash that can be recycled, and popular clothing brand Generation has decided to spread some awareness on that through their new campaign #ReGenerate.

With the thoughtful and aesthetically pleasing campaign video, Generation is throwing light on the issue of waste management and suggesting that we use eggshells instead of throwing them away.

“Crush and add your waste egg shells in your compost. They enrich the compost with calcium, an important nutrient that helps plants build cell walls. Washing them will abate bacteria and crushing them will speed up their break down in the compost.”

All of Anas Habib’s friends, relatives and neighbours are proud of his achievement.

Here’s what Anas said in an interview:

“When I completed my matriculation in science. I wished to become a doctor. But I was interested in business and decided to get admission in the field of commerce. It’s a vast filed. In future, I will attempt CSS (Central Superior Services).”

“I attended coaching classes and studied course books for many hours at night. Nothing is impossible. Anyone can bring good results. Education is not someone’s private property. Those who work hard will definitely get good results.”

According to a press release from the BIEK, A total of 43,021 students were registered out of which 41,985 participated in the examination.

12,888 successfully passed the exams, leaving the ratio of passing at 30.70. 110 students achieved A-1 grade, 1,084 A-grade, 2,696 B grade, 4,262 C grade, 4,230 D grade, and 506 E grade.

As Anas has expressed interest in appearing for CSS, we wish him all the best for it and his other future endeavors.

Here’s hoping that more such hardworking students get the chance to shine as brightly as Anas.

Coca-Cola has unveiled the world’s first-ever plastic bottle made from ocean waste. The one-of-its-kind bottle has 25% ocean waste retrieved from Mediterranean beaches by volunteers.

This new successful venture will help the brand make this world more sustainable with the use of new recycling technology.

Reportedly, in a partnership with Indorama Venture and Ioniqa Technologies, this new tech allows for recyclable PET plastic to be ‘upcycled’.

Not only that, the waste is converted into high-quality plastic using depolymerization. This means that lower-grads plastics are broken down and reborn into food-grade PET Plastic.

#MyAlwaysExperience: Pakistani Women Express Disapproval of Always Sanitary Pads

always kenya

In March this year, Kenyan women started a campaign expressing outrage over their experience with the popular sanitary pad brand, Always.

Comparing the brand with other sanitary pads, the campaign #MyAlwaysExperience by women claimed that the brand was selling a lower quality product that gave rise to vaginal rashes and infections.

What makes a case like this further difficult to comprehend is that, with a personal hygiene product, the experience can vary from person to person.

This can even make a user doubt their own experience by making them think that perhaps they’re the only ones going through it.

But when hundreds of women came out with the same complaint with one product, it became clear that the problem most probably lied with the product and not the user.

They also compelled the manufacturer, Proctor & Gamble to apologize for producing a harmful personal hygiene product like that.

The brand denied these claims, as expected.

However, they were forced to create a Twitter account for Always Kenya, on which it defended its product, saying the quality is similar to those in other parts of the world, “including Germany, UK, US, South Africa”.

Always is also a popular brand in Pakistan, and even though menstrual health awareness is not as high as it ideally should have been, Pakistani women have recently begun sharing their own experiences with the product.

Pakistani women are claiming that the occurrence of vaginal infections and rashes has gone down to almost zero after they stopped using Always.

Have you experienced anything similar? Let us know in the comments.

#MeToo: Filmmaker Jami Opens Up about Being Sexually Assaulted By Media Giant

jami

Popular filmmaker Jami is a renowned name in the industry. His work speaks for himself and there is absolutely no doubt that he is one of the best talents this country has.

However, on Sunday, the Operation 021 director shared in a thread that he had been ‘raped’ by a Pakistani media tycoon.

He added that the trauma he faced was one of the reasons why he speaks up a lot for the victims of sexual harassment.

He tweeted:

Why I am so strongly supporting #MeToo? Because, I know exactly how it happens now – inside a room, then outside courts and inside courts. How a survivor hides, confides… Because I was brutally raped by a very powerful person in our media world. A giant actually and yes I’m taller than him..

He continued..

I froze. Not sure why. Yes, it really happens and happened to me. Till this day, 13 years have passed and I curse myself why I didn’t take his eyes out.

But I was so close to this guy, a friend, doing his mega shoots for his mega high-end books and museum launches, maybe that’s why my system shut down. Or I couldn’t believe what is going on.

The director said he confided in a few close friends but no one took him seriously.

system shut down… or i couldnt believe WTF is going on. I told my few close friends but no one took it seriously.

I told them so many times with the name of this tycoon but (they took me) as if I’m a joker or something. Yes, high-end friends, top-end friends in media didn’t do anything,

This event led to around 6 months of therapy but when nothing was working in Jami’s favour he decided to leave the country.

How Zameen.Com went From a Start-up to a Global Entity

In the summer of 2006, two brothers went ahead with the idea of launching a start-up to establish an online real estate platform in Pakistan. Today, that start-up, led by founders Zeeshan Ali Khan and Imran Ali Khan, is Zameen.com – the country’s first and largest property portal.

The failure rate for start-ups is quite high, which can often demotivate people from pursuing their dream of setting one up. However, this is not the only reason people hesitate to establish a new business. It takes years of hard work to make a new idea successful. Then there is the fact that global markets are quite competitive. This reduces the chances of entering a particular industry.

The founders of Zameen.com, however, did not back down from the challenge. The idea for Zameen.com was formed keeping in mind the lack of a trustworthy real estate platform in Pakistan. They knew that the locals considered property to be an important asset and investment. Therefore, this new venture would make them appreciate the convenience it offered. The founders capitalised on this need, and over the years it has helped Zameen.com climb to new heights of success.

The Growth of Zameen.com

Venture capital funds are not common for start-ups in Pakistan. Regardless, Zameen.com became one of the first start-up tech companies to take advantage of this type of investment.

Seeking funds, especially for a new business idea, is not an easy process. Investors aim for businesses that provide security for their money and promise to multiply their investment in time. For this reason, the founders knew they had to convince their investors that their idea was scalable, and that they had the skills to make it successful.

Giles Blanchard – founder of SeLoger.com, the first and largest property website in France – provided the angel investment that Zameen.com needed. He later went on to join the company as its new chairman. His investment and expertise in online property portals helped the company expand its network and connect with even more investors.

Meanwhile, the founders took every opportunity to secure more venture funding. This included attending conferences, speaking at events, and exchanging information with experts on the global industry for online property portals. Eventually, the start-up managed to secure investments from global internet giants like Frontier Digital Ventures and Catcha Group.

The Zameen.com Difference

In Pakistan, people were used to the idea of buying and selling property in the traditional way. You had to visit multiple sites, inspect each property, negotiate the price, and then close the deal. While this process of property buying guaranteed satisfaction, it also meant investing too much time, effort, and overhead costs. On the other hand, Zameen.com was offering a platform that would allow people to buy or sell property online. Instead of making a physical effort, all you had to do was go online and either browse through existing properties for sale or rent, or make your own listing.

But the question remained; could people trust such a platform? Would they get exactly what they paid for?

Zameen.com was offering a unique approach to gain the trust of its clients. A team of photographers had the responsibility to capture high-quality images and videos of different sites and developments. This gave users access to the best possible information.

The founders also ensured that Zameen.com remained a relatable brand. To connect with the users, the company trained its professionals to think about property like any average person would. Due to the establishment of a familiar and convenient atmosphere for the users, it was easier for them to develop trust in the brand.

Company Milestones

What started out as a mere idea soon started to take root within the industry and slowly developed into a solid business.

In the beginning, Zameen.com used to offer free listings on its website. In 2010, it shifted to a business model of paid advertisements. Additionally, the company began to offer exclusive marketing and sales services to developers in order to help them enhance their revenues.

In 2013, Zameen.com introduced the Urdu and mobile versions of its website. This helped in expanding the reach of the portal and improve user convenience. The same year, the company held its first exhibition ‘Pakistan Real Estate Expo (PREEX) 2013’, which was conducted in collaboration with the government of Pakistan. Now, these property expos have become a regular fixture and are held in Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad every year.

By 2014, the company was also publishing its monthly real estate magazine. In 2017, they selected Pakistani actor Fawad Khan as their official brand ambassador. His TV campaign for the brand, “Humain Pata Hai Aap Ke Dil Ki Baat” gained 20 million internet views, which was reportedly the highest online viewership for any local brand at the time.

In 2018, the company reported having 5 million monthly visitors on its website. Additionally, it recorded 32.9 million page views across different devices. With over 11 million property listings, 14,500 registered agents, 1,000 developers on the panel, and over a million subscribers, the business was clearly flourishing.

The Lahore Expo 2019 marked another milestone for Zameen.com. It introduced several technological firsts at the event. This included a demonstration of a 3D property walkthrough.

Over the years, the company has also received multiple awards and honours at both international and national levels.

Working at Zameen.com

The company does not only gain success from its services and products. The environment and benefits it provides to its employees at any level also give it a unique standing in the industry. At Zameen.com, the founders believe that everyone is part of a family, which is why their talents and ideas should be valued. The company provides a working platform that promotes diversity and equal opportunity.

There are many actors and actresses who are not afraid of speaking out about their views on social media.

One of the bold ones who does not shy away from speaking out is nonother than Shan Shahid.

This time around Shahid has about Mehwish Hayat’s campaigns for the education of girls.

The ‘Punjab Nahi Jaongi’ actress was recently appointed as Goodwill Ambassador for girls’ rights. In regards to it, she shared a video on her social media with the caption:

I was fortunate my mother understood the value of education. That is what gives me the confidence to face the world. I want this for each and every child” Larki ko parhayenge .. tab hi to aagay jayenge .

However, the veteran actor spoke out that there should be awareness for both genders.

Larke ko bhi parhaiian gai sab mil ker agay jayain gai. Education Skill set , passion & talent must all be supported equally . Our celebrities are educated but not in the field that they are celebrities in . that is the power of raw talent we have.#understand#support.
