ECC Approves EV Policy for 2 & 3-Wheelers, Heavy Commercial Vehicles!

EV

12th June 2020:

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has granted its approval for the Electric Vehicle (EV) policy for two and 3-wheelers as well as heavy commercial vehicles.

The policy was drafted and proposed by the Ministry of Industries & Production after consultations from stakeholders, including the Engineering Development Board (EDB), Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Climate Change (MoCC), and others.

The EV policy was presented by MoCC and was approved earlier this year, but due to objections raised by MoIP, EDB, and other stakeholders, it was not implemented and was revised.

In April, during a meeting, it was then decided that the EV policy will be implemented for 2-wheelers (bikes) and 3-wheelers (rickshaws) to satisfy both the MoCC and the MoIP. On the other hand, it was decided that the policy for 4-wheelers (cars) would be implemented later on.

According to sources and reports, MoCC had stressed a total of 1% duty on imports of e-motorcycles and e-rickshaws’ assembling parts. On the other hand, MoIP countered the suggestion claiming that this would only discourage local production.

Currently, the import duty on two-wheelers and three-wheelers’ parts was 46% for those manufactured in the country and 15% on imported components.

9th April 2020:

The government of Pakistan has been planning on introducing the electric-vehicle or EV policy for some time now. Since then, all stakeholders of the local automotive industry have been trying to reach a mutual decision.

With the novel coronavirus pandemic gripping the world, the performance of the industry has gone from bad to worse. As factories have shut down as per the government’s orders, sales, as well as production units, have seen a sharp decrease.

New bookings have gone hold, and dealerships have closed shop indefinitely. During this tough time, the government wishes to implement the EV policy. In contrast, the manufacturers want to put it in hold for at least another year because a new system in the given conditions will not be fruitful for the stakeholders.

Nonetheless, EVs will not see a surge in demand as the economy is moving towards recession. Major automotive manufacturers like Pak Suzuki and Honda Atlas have expressed their concerns asking the Engineering Development Board (EDB) to push the policy.

The policy was initially meant to be implemented from 2020-25. Suzuki and Honda have both asked for a delay separately from EDB, whereas local automotive manufactures are demanding the same policy for both hybrid and EVs.

This is because both technologies are new and require a considerable sum of investment. Incentive policies will help ease the implementation of new technology for local brands. The government can expect to see an increase in revenue generation, the technological growth of the auto sector, and more employment opportunities once this policy is given a green signal.

Tariff rates are also under consideration for cars, commercial vehicles, and SUVs. The auto industry development community is look-over these rates. Several significant automakers also want these tariff rates to be the same for all-electric and hybrid cars.

At the time, Pakistan is not manufacturing hybrid vehicles. It will be beneficial for consumers if they are made locally as they will have to pay less for ownership. Previously, there was a struggle between the Production Division and the Ministry of Climate Change and Industries to draft the EV policy.

Pakistani Truck Artist Expresses Solidarity by Painting a Mural of Floyd

Pakistani Truck Artist, Haider Ali, painted a mural of George Floyd on the wall of his house in Karachi, Pakistan. The painting is a tribute towards the movement ‘Black lives matter’ that sparked attention after the killing of George Floyd during a fatal arrest.

The mural is painted in a traditional Pakistani truck art style alongside slogans “Goron ki na kaalon ki Dunya dil walon ki” (The world doesn’t belong to the fair or the dark, it belongs to those with a heart) and “Hum kalay hain tou kya huwa dil walay hain” (We are dark, so what we have a heart).

However, the slogans around the painting refer to colorism. The movement has created a blurry line between colorism and racism in this part of the world.

“This artwork not only pays reverence to George Floyd but it pays tribute to everyone fighting inequality and injustice,” clarifies Haider.

Haider also talks about injustice Muslims have to go through based on religion

“This act of barbarism makes me think of even the Muslims living in Indian Occupied Kashmir, Palestine, and Myanmar and elsewhere, what they have to go through every day? They are subjected to injustice and cruelty based on religious bias, tortured and killed. They are living their lives in fear every minute. I plead that the world must raise voice for them too. ”

” Black is an essential color of the universe. It is due to the black color of the sky that we can see the stars. Every Artist in the world realizes the importance and beauty of the black color”, explained the truck artist beautifully.

“ALLAH Almighty has made every human equal. The religion Islam discourages all kinds of racism,” said Haider Ali.

The death of Floyd has sparked protests in the United States and Europe.

It is not just Pakistan, in fact, across the US, murals and other street arts have become a significant symbol of those protesting the death of George Floyd at the hands of police.

10 Memorable 80’s & 90’s Pakistani Songs That Will Never Get Old!

The Pakistani music scene has changed over time, with newer genres and artists are emerging for the millennials. In the ’80s and ’90s, a cultural wave stormed through the land and led to the birth of energetic musical fusion of East and West.

This was the age of rebellion where the underground music scene flared and came the arrival of new artists into the scene. Singers such as Vital Signs, Junoon, Nazia Hassan, to name a few, were the crème de la crème of the industry.

However, these old songs will never be forgotten, considering the impact they have had and will continue to have on the masses. The term ‘out with the old and in with the new’ couldn’t be more wrong as it’s clear to see that these songs will honestly always be on our playlists.

Let’s take a quick throwback to the times when walkmans and cassettes were all the rage in Pakistan, keeping us hooked to the stellar top hits from the 80s and 90s!

Check out all the golden musical memories here!

1. Disco Deewane

Artist: Nazia Hassan

The late Nazia Hassan, also known as the ‘Queen of Disco Pop,’ managed to sell 60 million records worldwide. Working alongside her brother, Zoheb Hassan, they produced mega-hits, including their first album, that was declared the best selling album in Asia at the time. That album included this song, Disco Deewane, which was released in 1981 and is still widely popular to this day.

2. Jazba-e-Junoon

Artist: Junoon

This song was the first biggest hit by the Sufi rock band, Junoon. Releasing in 1996, this song became the anthem of the 1996 Cricket World Cup and is also the national song of Pakistan. Even now, this melody continues to be played at many Pakistan cricket matches.

3. Dil Dil Pakistan

Artist: Vital Signs

Released in 1987, Dil Dil Pakistan broke records upon its release. It ranks on the third spot in the BBC World Service International poll of popular songs in 2003. Because of the patriotic message behind this widely popular tune, it is unofficially the national anthem of Pakistan. Vital Signs is considered one of the most successful bands of Pakistan and featured the famous, Junaid Jamshed.

4. Hawa Hawa

Artist: Hasan Jahangir

This successful hit gained Hasan Jahangir, his fame in Bollywood as well, selling approximately 15 million copies in India.

5. Zara Chera To Dikhao

Artist: Zoheb Hassan

Brother to the famous Nazia Hassan and part of the ‘Nazia and Zoheb’ duo, Zoheb Hassan produced many hits in the 80s. He released this 1984 solo in the album, ‘Young Tarang.’ He recently renewed this track for Coke Studio, bringing back his chilling vocals and one-of-a-kind aesthetic to a newer generation.

6. Dekha Na Tha

Artist: Alamgir

One of the original and highly reputable artists in the pop scene, Alamgir released this song in the 80s, and it quickly gained recognition. The ‘Elvis of the East’ continues to wow the world with his immense talent and even has an upcoming biopic film that will be released in his honor, starring the talented Fawad Khan.

7. Purani Jeans

Artist: Ali Haider

One of Ali Haider’s most notably popular songs is ‘Purani Jeans’ from his 1993 album, ‘Sandesa.’ He has released several albums throughout his career, but this catchy song seems to be the one that transports you right back to the earlier 90s.

8. Billo De Ghar

Artist: Abrar ul Haq

This song is featured in Abrar ul Haq’s debut album of the same name and quickly became the best selling album of its time, back in 1995. The Urdu-Punjabi classic has sold over 16 million copies to date.

9. Dupatta

Artist: Hadiqa Kiani

Hadiqa’s Dupatta from her album, ‘Roshni’ was a chartbuster, and further certified the ‘Platinum’ is received. The techno beats of this song assured Hadiqa’s place as the country’s leading female vocalist. This funky song’s success leads it to be listed at number 15 on ‘Twenty Best Pop Songs Ever for Pakistan’ at the time.

10. Mr. Fraudiay

Artist: Awaz

The biggest hit from the band, ‘Awaz,’ was ‘Mr. Fraudiay’. It featured on their third and final album, ‘Shola,’ which made its debut in 1996. It took a more Western approach rather than the Eastern one their previous albums had taken. Nonetheless, this song took the cake, exceeding many people’s expectations. It will be a forever memorable tune as the band parted ways not soon after its release.

Google Chrome on Android is Finally Getting a Much-Needed Upgrade

Google Chrome

According to XDA Developers, Google Chrome is finally getting an upgrade. Reportedly, the tech giant is working to improve the autofill feature for Google Chrome’s Android app.

One of the most useful features of Google Chrome on the Android app is autofill. It saves usernames and passwords so you can sign in all the apps on your phone conveniently whenever you sign out for whatever reason.

Google

If you’re setting up a new phone, the feature helps you set up your phone in lesser time.

The feature is slightly inconvenient at the moment. On the website, when you tap on a specific field, the floating menu covers most of the display, which makes it inaccessible. However, it does provide you with options when tapped.

Student Hack: Google Lens Will Now Solve Your Math Problems

The newest upgrade will soon be out that will make the whole process flawless. After the update, Chrome will provide suggestions above the keyboard without blocking the view or filling up space. Users will be able to scroll through the options.

Tapping specific fields will take you to a screen where associated information is displayed in portions. This allows you to select different parts of the report at a time, which is the key benefit of the update.

For example, you’ve just done adding grocery to your cart on a supermarket site. It is time to add details. As soon as you click on the empty boxes where details need to be filled, the suggestions will appear of what your street address is or maybe just your username, etc.

The newest upgrade also has a hamburger menu in the process, which will allow users to manage payment methods, passwords, and addresses. Currently, these settings are available on Chrome desktop in browser settings only.

24th April 2020:

The much-awaited 2021 Toyota Yaris Cross has finally arrived!

Toyota says the Yaris Cross, like pretty much every other small-ute, and it aims to blend a lithe, compact body with “SUV-like interior comfort and luggage room.”

The Yaris Cross is based on Toyota’s TNGA platform. The exterior is gorgeous, and compared to the C-HR, the Yaris Cross is even smaller; it’s about 9 inches shorter, 5 inches skinnier!

Reportedly, it will be powered by gas alone or as a hybrid. The gas version uses a 1.5-liter three-cylinder paired to either a CVT or a six-speed manual while the mixture is also powered by a 1.5-liter but comes with other benefits of electric motors and optional e-AWD whereas the gas-only models are exclusively front-wheel-drive.

The car has made its digital debut in style and in a shiny new paint called ‘Brass Gold’.

Credits: Toyota

23rd April 2020: Planned to be debuted at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, the Toyota Yaris Crossover is most likely to be revealed today!

Although Toyota did not officially announce when they will be debuting the new compact crossover, a new report from AutoNoción says the reveal will happen today, 23rd April.

Reportedly, Toyota’s latest compact crossover will slot below the C-HR. It will ride on the TNGA-B platform, as the Yaris compact hatchback, and will be equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain.

Even if the Yaris Crossover debuts today, it is not expected to go on sale for at least another year in the European market. Last month, spy shots of the crossover started to surface, showing that there is still much development left, which means Toyota won’t mind rescheduling the reveal if needed.

However, the automotive giant has time and time again teased the much-awaited Yaris Crossover, we are still wondering what it will look like when it finally arrives.

On the other hand, Toyota has said that it’ll wear a “compact, dynamic design” and have “a personality of its own.” This hints that the crossover is most likely to wear a conventional crossover design making it very distinctive like the C-HR.

We have yet to see what Toyota has planned for the compact Yaris Crossover! Till then, stay home and stay safe.

20th May 2020

The automotive sector of Pakistan is going through a very crucial time. The slowdown of the economy has resulted in an increase in unit prices and a slump in demand.

According to the latest reports, sales have dropped by an alarming 41% during the first quarter of the fiscal year.

In September, both Honda and Toyota announced that their production plants would observe shut down for 15 days. Furthermore, both brands have announced that non-production days (NPD) will continue to be found in October as well.

From July, Honda has already observed 44 NPDs. According to Dawn, the company will keep its plant shut for up to 18 days in October. Honda still has 2,000 unsold units at its plants and dealerships, whereas the number was 3,000 last month.

Whereas unit productions at Indus Motor Company (IMC) are performing at less than 50% of its capacity and are expected to continue at this rate throughout the remaining month of October.

Non Production Days (NPDs) of Toyota and Honda plants:

Car sales are expected to remain on the low for the remainder of the year. It will not come as a surprise if more NPD are observed by both Toyota Pakistan and Honda or even other brands.

7 Pakistani Politicians Re-Imagined as Disney Characters

politicians

Politicians in Pakistan are often comedic, clueless, worthless, and are always bordering the realms of stupidity. Be it at taking shots at each other or trying to show off their massive egos; they never tend to disappoint.

To take the edge off of the current coronavirus and economic situation, we have compiled a sarcastic list of Politicians and their Disney counterparts.

*Note: This list is just for fun and humor purposes, we do not have any intentions to hurt the sentiments of any supporter of any party.

1. Altaf Hussain as Scar

Scar, the antagonist of the original Lion King movie, killed his brother Mufasa and overtook his kingdom and then mourned his death like he had absolutely nothing to do with it.

Our dearest ‘Bhai’ has done ‘so much’ for Karachi over the years, and yet he acts like he’s done absolutely nothing, and this is evident when he weeps like a 5-year-old.

2. Imran Khan as Simba

Simba, the one who defeated Scar and reclaimed his kingdom, is a perfect match for Imran Khan. His heroics previously sent Nawaz Sharif & his daughter behind bars, and he later claimed victory in the general elections.

3. Sheikh Rasheed as Mickey Mouse

politicians

Mickey Mouse has been a staple at birthday parties for decades now, and his primary purpose is to be an entertainer. And who from the political world is a better entertainer than our beloved Sheikh Rasheed?

4. Nawaz Sharif as Shrek

We don’t need to say much here, the resemblance is quite evident, and it’s almost like a cartoonish counterpart of our former Prime Minister. Like Shrek, Nawaz cannot seem to see ahead of the swamp, or Punjab in this case, and has a hard time adjusting with citizens belonging for different stories (provinces).

5. Tahir-ul-Qadri as Rafiki

You might have seen Rafiki sniff the air countless times and analyze it; that’s precisely what Tahir-ul-Qadri does; whenever he senses a ‘change in the air,’ he comes running to Pakistan.

6. Asif Ali Zardari as Shere Khan

politicians

The terrorizing tiger from The Jungle Book, who is obsessed with killing Mowgli, Zardari is also obsessed with one thing, and that is to maintain his power in the province of Sindh. Regardless of him being in and out of jail.

7. Shireen Mazari as Ursula

politicians

The resemblance, especially the hairdo, is so irresistible that we don’t need to justify this choice, and just go ahead with it!

These seven politicians share resemblance or traits with these cartoon characters, and now and then they will make you rethink your choices, but for now, we’re sticking with these!

Have any other comparisons we can add to the list? Share them with us in the comments below.

Viral Video of Smuggled Cars Reminds Us Of Fast & Furious! [Watch Video]

smuggled cars pakistan
PC: PaksitanToday

How many of you watched movies like ‘Gone In Sixty Seconds’ and the entire ‘Fast And The Furious’ series?

Such movies have become an inspiration for people who get their adrenaline pumped by getting involved in illegal activities.

Anyway, there’s no doubt that such films come with intense and exhilarating action sequences, lots of glamour, and the people involved in the heist are smart enough to get away with physically impossible thefts like it’s a child’s play.

One such movie like incident recently occurred, which wasn’t as glamours as action movies are.

In the video circulating online, four cars are being smuggled into Pakistan through what seems to be some mountain range in Balochistan.

The four cars being smuggled are all Toyota’s, with a Vitz or a Yaris leading the pack, and Aqua right behind, an 8th gen E110 Corolla on the third, and a Probox on the last.

Car smuggling is a crime.

Cross-border car smuggling or any other illicit exchange is a big felony in any region, owing to which the mules usually avoid the central paths, to steer clear of the check-posts and prevent getting caught on surveillance cameras.

Especially in Balochistan, there are only limited paved routes that can be taken by the motorists, all of which have various checkpoints.

However, that doesn’t hinder the smugglers from carrying out their acts.

The dangers of such actions

The smuggled cars are transported to their destination via the mountains. The vehicles in the video are regular street cars, yet still, they’re being driven on top of the rocks in a way that would put both the hardest of off-road trucks and the most courage off-road enthusiasts to pure embarrassment.

One little error, and it would be a horrible day for the car and the very last day, perhaps, for the driver who attempted such an action.

Discourage smuggling cars

Smuggling is still continual across several areas of Pakistan, particularly in Balochistan and a few regions in KP.

Not only do the smugglers put the regional market and economy out of balance, but do so while dancing on the edge of a grave.

You should know that by saying ‘No’ to car smuggling and other cross-border frauds, we can save not only the economy and the image of our province.

However, if we continue to encourage smuggling, we’re putting lives ago risk and playing without conscious. So, we’d recommend you to kindly get over the fever of action movies and snap back to reality when anyone gives you an idea of smuggled cars.

From Mahira Khan to Iqra Aziz and Osman Khalid Butt to Hamza Ali Abbasi – no celebrity has been able to dodge the bullet of trolling, and if they lash back, they face the music.

However, there are times when celebs keep it hush when they are under the fire and other times – they don’t hold back but be vocal and give the haters a taste of their own medicine. One such personality is model Nadia Hussain who never hesitates to shut haters up.

10th June 2020:

Given the crisis currently, Pakistan and its automotive industry are going through; exporting auto parts is a blessing in disguise.

Pakistan’s AuVitronics Limited, a House of Habib company is ready to export car parts to Toyota Motors Vietnam (TMV).

Reportedly, Indus Motors Company (IMC) had put through a request to Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) to allow AuVitronics to supply its Absorber FR Bumpers to TMV.

This is because the Toyota Corolla, which is currently being assembled in Vietnam, is the same unit that is presently being sold in Pakistan.

Moreover, it is being said that the part will be installed towards the rear-end on the front bumper cover in the Corolla.

This suggestion was approved after several quality tests and rigorous process by TMC. According to CEO of IMC Ali Asghar Jamali:

“IMC has been striving for the development of the auto sector for the last thirty years. We have fulfilled our commitment to the country and promoted the auto and engineering industry in Pakistan and today we are achieving new successes.”

Now that the deal has locked, this means that AuVitronics Limited has now become a part of the global supply chain for Toyota. Furthermore, IMC will further develop the industrial base of the country, the CEO added.
According to Jamali, IMC has, by far, helped local vendors sign at least 30 technical assistance agreements with foreign companies.

On the other hand CEO of AuVitronics Limited, Mr. Syed Abbas-ul-Hussaini said:

“It is a great pleasure for Pakistan to become part of the global supply of Toyota and it is the beginning of a new era for the local auto industry as it has opened new export markets for the sector”.

30th April 2020:

The Indus Motor Company, aka Toyota Pakistan, has announced to provide short-term interest-free emergency loans to all vendors.

This decision will allow the vendors to have a semblance of liquidity during this hard lockdown.

Reportedly, these loans will be available starting from May 2020. Pakistan’s automotive industry has been one of the most-hit industries. The sector was already facing a difficult time before the novel coronavirus made things worse.

At such a difficult time, these loans that IMC intends to carry out will help many businesses stay alive.

Mashood Khan, the ex-chairman of PAAPAM; Director of Mehran Enterprise (parts manufacturer) & vendor of IMC, said:

We highly appreciate the financial support given to the vendors. Indeed we face an acute financial crunch which will hopefully be resolved by this step of management.

He further added that they had approached the government for relief; however, their plea has gone unanswered.

We hope other OEM including Chinese OEM assemblers will take the same step to support the vendors and urged the vendors to not exploit the offer rather respects it. -Khan added

Kudos to IMC for their contribution in these hard times.

In May, the government of Pakistan permitted the clinical trial of passive immunization.

Soon, doctors and researchers became successful in plasma therapy proved to be successful.

“Alhamdulillah, (by the grace of God), the first coronavirus patient treated through passive immunization has recovered and discharged from the hospital,” Dr. Tahir Shamis, head of the National Institute of Blood Diseases, told Anadolu Agency.

The doctor further said that other patients are also going through the trial and that the aim is to cure 350 patients with this method.

What is Plasma Therapy?

Plasma therapy is an experimental treatment that some doctors are using to treat Covid-19 patients.

How Does it Work?

“Let me make it very clear that it’s a successful clinical trial only. We cannot declare it an approved treatment for the novel virus at this stage,” said Shamsi, the head of the team of hematologists who are in charge of the clinical trials.

Where can Treated Patients Donate Their Plasma?

Dr. Zafar Mirza, the State Minister of Health of Pakistan, has shared an official tweet from his account with a list of centers where plasma can be donated.

He tweets:

Govt allowed sometime ago a clinical trial on plasma therapy, which is yielding encouraging results according to the investigators. COVID-19 recovered patients can donate plasma at the following centers:

As of now, total coronavirus cases in Pakistan have exceeded over 113,000 with Punjab having the most cases, followed by Sindh.

In a letter to the Punjab Health Minister, the World Health Organization has suggested a further 2-week lockdown to help bring the situation under control.
