It was not more than a couple of weeks ago that Hania Aamir made it into headlines. She stated that she and Asim Azhar are not together. Hania had also deleted her and Asim’s pictures from her Instagram account. Memes on the actress’s statement flooded the internet.

On Wednesday, the Ishqiya actress uploaded a new VLOG. In the VLOG, she cut her hair short by herself! Hania Aamir then called her friends to show their reaction. Asim Azhar was also one of those friends whom she named. The Jo Tu Na Mila singer gave an adorable response in return. It is noteworthy that the actress previously said that she and Asim are “just friends.”

Karachi’s Sea View All Set For A Complete Transformation!

Karachi’s Sea View is all set for renovations! The popular spot is the first choice of all people, either national or tourists, when it is summer. Why wouldn’t it be after all? It’s a luscious beach right in the heart of Karachi. And it’s about to get even better.

The Renovation Plan

The authorities in Pakistan’s southern port city want to give Karachi Sea View a new face. In other words, the coastline is being renovated to look more like foreign beaches! The entire coast in Karachi has an area of 90 acres, of which 30 are going to be made green spaces. 

Intense efforts are being attributed to the aesthetic of greenery. For the first time, approximately 13 acres of grass will be planted on the beach. The process for that has also already begun.

A 1.76-kilometer jogging track is also being constructed for the public. Additionally, five watchtowers are planned to be erected to inspect the coastline from a height. They will house lifeguards so that if someone starts drowning, they can be rescued.

Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) has not yet announced when the renovation project will be completed. However, their motive is to use the time given by coronavirus for functional purposes.

Sea View Currently

Like other public places, Sea View has also been currently sealed off by the authorities. The decision is made as part of the restrictions put in place to control the spread of coronavirus. People also raised a question about whether a fee would be introduced now, given the massive changes taking place. The officials responded by saying ‘No,’ meaning that anyone and everyone can enjoy.

Sea View’s renovation was long due. The coastline has become intensely populated over the years, and the water polluted. The water near the shoreline changed the color, and the waste dumped in it has increased too. Most people don’t opt to go to Sea View now because of the lack of privacy and smell coming from the water.

The Preservation of Tourist Spots

CBC’s decision to renovate Karachi’s favorite spot seems like a great decision. Most tourist spots are neither paid heed to, nor are they sustained over time. The condition of the fort in Lahore is miserable; unfortunately, yet its grandeur still shines through all the decay. Hopefully, Sea View will never get to that point.

Perhaps this decision can also be attributed to Pakistan’s focus on tourism. There are big things in store in terms of the country’s plan to revive tourism, and renovating Sea View sounds like an excellent place to start.

Public School Hyderabad Fires Teacher For Smoking During Online Class

A lot has changed in our lives in 2020 because of the novel Coronavirus.

For the first time, we have experienced many new things, including wearing facemasks in public, regular hand washing, and even online classes.

As we try to adapt to the new changes, we are doing our level best to keep up. Many of the jobs have switched to remote locations as industries and schools have shut down to prevent the spread of the virus.

Online classes have now become a ‘normal’ part of our lives. Students from nursery to university are using several online tools to keep up with their education to prevent a significant loss.

Public School Hyderabad Managed By Sukkur IBA University (SIBAU) recently took it to their social media account to announced to students and parents that they have fired the physics teacher, Mr. M Shairoz.

According to the official post by the institute, the reason for letting the teacher go was because of his ‘unethical act of smoking during online classes.’

The post reads:

Dear students, teachers and parents
Attention please!
Our priority is to provide a safe and secure environment and culture to our all stakeholders specifically students.

We will never compromise on our benchmarks and standards.

We have terminated the services of Mr Muhammad Shairoz (Physics teacher) because of his unethical act of smoking during online classes.

He is not part of PSH from today and onwards as a faculty member.”

It is essential to add here that we understand that working from the comfort of your household is not the same as working from the institute or an organization. One wants to feel comfortable in their personal space, which is natural.

However, at the same time, it is also essential to understand that as a teacher, you have the responsibility bestowed upon you by parents to guide children. Teachers are entrusted with encouraging children to find their talent, skills, polish themselves, increase their knowledge, teach them kind and positive traits.

Children’s minds are like clay; a teacher’s job is to mold that clay into a work of art. Though this act may have been unintentional, it may not give a positive message to every child who was attending the class at the time of this incident and may reflect somewhere down the line if not now.

7 Biggest Brands & How They’re Spending On Advertising During COVID-19

The coronavirus pandemic has pushed the entire world into a state of chaos and crisis. During this challenging time, it has become a continuous thought process for marketers on how to go about the communication of their brands to consumers.

Advertising spending cuts have been implemented by some of the major brands across the world. However, there are some sectors, such as household brands like P&G and Unilever, that have increased their spending due to a tremendous increase in their product sales.

So how are these brands spending on advertising during the COVID-19 world health crisis?

Digiday Research has recently analyzed the latest earnings updates from the top 10 ad spenders in the world (according to RECMA data from 2018) and how they are adapting their marketing strategies to the ongoing crisis.

  1. Proctor & Gamble (P&G)

The household product consumer brand has experienced a 7% increase in sales in its first quarter. P&G has experienced its best sales growth in a decade as people have stocked up on household staples that are part of P&G’s product portfolio. The company has increased its marketing spending by nearly 2% in the first quarter.

P&G CFO Jon Moeller mentions, 

“There’s big upside here in terms of reminding consumers of the benefits that they’ve experienced with our brands and how they’ve served their and their families’ needs, which is why it’s not time to go off air.”

2. Unilever

Unilever’s sales performance in the first quarter didn’t exactly match that of its biggest rival and only experienced a 2.1% growth in sales. The chief executive mentions all their major ad productions have been halted, and they are shifting away from outdoor advertising.

 

3. L’Oreal Paris

The beauty brand’s first-quarter sales dropped by 4.8% as hair salons to which it sells products, and other retailers were forced to closed down when countries entered lockdown. The brand is cutting back on advertising in the short term as they are unable to sell products at the moment.

4. Amazon

The e-commerce giant, Amazon, has surprisingly recorded a 29% drop in profits with an operating loss of $1.5 billion. They decided to reduce marketing in some areas as a way to decrease consumer demand for non-essential items. Marketing expenses increased by 32% in the year-ago quarter to $4.8 billion.

5. Coca Cola

Coca-Cola has suffered a significant hit after bars, stores, restaurants, malls, and movie theatres closed down due to the virus. Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey said,

“We have reduced our direct consumer communication, [and we have] paused sizeable marketing campaigns through the early stages of the crisis and will re-engage when the timing is right.”

6. Mc. Donald’s

McDonald’s reports that their sales fell 6% in the quarter to March 31, while profit dropped by 17%. The brand believes customer engagement is their top priority for business, and therefore they will continue with advertisement spending. Their latest campaign is the promotion of free breakfast for first responders during the pandemic.

 

7. Glaxo SmithKline

The pharmaceutical brand, Glaxo SmithKline, is at the frontline, working on developing a vaccine for the novel coronavirus. For the first quarter of the year, it has expected a rise of 19% in sales. The brand continues to advertise digitally and plans on advertising on its new product launches.

YouTuber Awesamo Shares His Thoughts

One of the people of the Youtube fraternity, Awesame, has shared his thoughts on the speculations. Awesamo has garnered a lot of fans over the years, and his subscribers have also toppled over a million. His recent video on the ban was about “Khwab Tod Dogey.” He meant to say if you ban YouTube, you’re going to be shattering dreams.

According to Awesamo, the conflict between good and evil has always existed. That does not mean or give the right to anyone to eradicate the entire system to curb the bad. You learn to win from the bad and empower the good. In terms of the good that comes out of Youtube, he had a lot of examples to give.

Firstly, the amount of people he has inspired through his channel to follow their dreams and be creative is genuinely remarkable. Secondly, youtube is where thousands of people learn from. When they learn something, they become passionate about it and dream of going further in that field. If you ban Youtube, you shatter those dreams.

Where Did The Ban Even Come From? 

The Supreme Court, while hearing the case of Shaukat Ali, involved in a sectarian crime, hinted at this decision. The judges hearing the case were upset about the conspiracy theories going on YouTube and the scrutiny on the private life of judges. 

In the constitution of Pakistan, engagement in an academic discussion on courts or state officials is allowed. But conspiracies regarding them or jokes are interpreted as misconduct, which can be disputed over in legal courts. These judges felt that the best way to curb this was to ban Youtube. After all, a lot of countries have banned them.

But Awesamo had a great response to that: a lot of countries have also developed over time, why have we not?

Shehzad Ghias Sheikh Weighs In

Sheikh is a distinguished stand-up comedian in Pakistan who also regularly speaks on pertinent social issues. He drafted a lengthy Facebook status, which just spits facts. 

 

Pakistan, if it bans Youtube, will be ruining itself in the long-run. By banning all social media platforms one by one, you limit technological development in the country. PUBG was banned for reasons that are questionable even though it can become a lucrative business for young gamers in Pakistan. The future is all tech, and Pakistan is running away from tech. What does that say about us? 

We already have terrible statistics showing a concerning brain-drain in Pakistan. We can’t possibly lament over that when the future generation is not being allowed to excel in the field they are best suited to. 

Youtube is a source of learning, inspiration, motivation, and earning. There were over 20 people in 2019 who made millions from Youtube. We’re hoping this speculation never becomes a reality.

3. Attend study circles

Study circles are critical. It happens quite a lot that the way your teacher explains a topic is not understandable. The teacher himself could be bored, or he may also not like that topic very much. To counter this, the best way is to form and attend study circles because there are always those first benchers who understand the teacher. And since they are your class fellows, the way they explain a topic will be more clearer than your teachers, considering they speak your language.

If you think you can cover four chapters in 4 hours before your exam, DON’T!

  • Make notes,
  • See if you understand it all in your own words.
  • Then, take a break, and
  • Go through it again.

Earlier this week, Pakistan’s Supreme Court hinted at banning popular social video sharing site, YouTube. This caused an uproar among the youth throughout the country. First, you should find out which Windows operating system you are using on your PC.

Which Windows Operating System am I using?

There are two ways you can do this:

Method 1

This is easier but a little trickier one out of the two methods.

Step 1: Press the Windows logo key on your keyboard along with the R key.

Step 2: Type winver in the dialog box and select OK.

Method 2

Step 1: Press the Start button on the bottom left side of the screen.

And it is harder for the caregivers as well. However, most of the affected have the option to choose to government-organized isolation centers.

But with more than 25 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in children, sisters, and staff, Dar-ul-Sukun set up their quarantine ward considering the quarantine centers will not be equipped to take care of people with special needs. Moreover, the children are used to the environment at Dar-ul-Sukun, moving them to the quarantine center will only frustrate them.

Dar-ul-Sukun bid farewell to the fallen soul, Sister Ruth Lewis. Sister Ruth had served the organization for the past 51 years. In 2018, Hamdard recognized her efforts and presented her the Hakim Said Award to honor her selfless contributions. She lost her fight to COVID-19 and was buried yesterday, on 22nd July 2020. After spending eight years together, the two finally decided to part ways. Moreover, upon being questioned by their followers, they posted a note that read,

“Today, on account of irreconcilable differences, we have decided to end our marriage. Our only hope at what is a difficult time for each of us is that both of us can continue to be the best possible parents for our daughter. Therefore, we request both the media and the public to respect our privacy at this difficult time”.

In an interview, when asked where the couple had met, Shahroz said,

“We met at a mutual friend’s wedding. I was 19, and she was 18. During events like the mehndi, dholkis, dance practices, I started to like her. Before that, I had seen her in a couple of ads and had thought to myself, — who is this cute girl in town?”

But ever since the two got divorced, Shahroz has been making the headlines. People said that he was too quick to move on and to tie the knot with Pakistani model, Sadaf Kanwal, soon after. Last year, Pakistan’s most popular singer Atif Aslam and his wife welcomed their second baby boy. Atif Aslam shared an adorable picture of his son on Instagram with his fans. He asked everyone to remember the family in their prayers. He posted:

 This caption led many Indian news publications to believe that Atif Aslam has named his son “Alhumdulillah.”

Since the heartthrob singer does not post on Instagram frequently, he had only shared one picture of his second son until now. On the 16th anniversary of the singer’s famous song “Jal Pari,” he hosted an Instagram live session for the song.

Our favorite singer married the love of his life, Sara Bharwana, in 2013. The couple had their first son, Ahad Atif Aslam, in 2014. The pandemic has probably led countless people who are quarantined to binge-watch their favorite TV shows as they lounge in their PJ’s the entire day while munching on popcorns and sipping on some OJ, but don’t you believe it also enabled us to learn the ropes of being productive to some extent?

Since combatting with the invisible foe, all of us have begun doing several positive deeds in our lives, which were once dismissed. The virus may have wreaked havoc on the globe, but it also enabled us to comprehend ample things.

I want to add, and most of you might agree with me that the pandemic has led us to maintain hygiene, and we have begun to comprehend the significance of cleanliness. Today, not only we resort to sanitizers around the clock, but we also keep disinfectants and antiseptics handy.

Without zero special occasions or festivals, we’re now focusing on keeping our home squeaky clean, but we also strive to maintain cleanliness around our community.

It was not long ago when fans across the border realized the beauty, simplicity, and potential of Pakistani dramas. Zindagi channel aired many Pakistani shows, including Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Humsafar, Aunn Zara, and many more. Zindagi Guzar Hai and Humsafar set new records.

These dramas eventually opened new opportunities for Pakistani actors in India. Fawad Khan became Pakistan’s most successful actor in the neighboring country. Previously phone batteries were made of Duracell, and hence, phones exploded due to overcharging. However, these days Lithium-ion is used in battery manufacturing; thus, overcharging is not possible. Therefore, until and unless there is no manufacturing fault, explosions should not be expected.

When you are charging your phone overnight, what happens is that the smartphone, as the name suggests, acts smartly and slows down charging. So, the phone does not overcharge. Also, we should not forget that the phone uses up the battery to stay functional and sustains those apps that are continually running in the background. Therefore, as the charge gets used up by the apps, the charger keeps replenishing the battery alongside.

The real enemy – overcharging or over-heating? 

But does that mean charging your phone overnight cannot be dangerous? No!

While Lithium-ion batteries do not allow for overcharge, i.e., for the battery to go beyond a 100% charge, the extra charge converts to heat. See, when the lithium-ion battery starts charging the ion move from the cathode to anode. If you remember the chemistry from high school, you will remember that when an ionic reaction takes place, salt forms.

With the presence of heat alongside for longer duration, rock salt forms upon the cathode and keeps building up. When the phone is left like this for extended periods, the heated battery and the rock-salt covered cathode starts shortening the battery capacity. So a point may come when your battery is completely dead.

Without batteries, phones are nothing but costly paperweight, so those people for whom phones have become an extension of themselves, overcharging phones can be dangerous even as in due time, rather than a phone, they will have a costly paperweight!

So yes, charging overnight is dangerous but not in the way we assume it to be. Plugged into the charger for hours and hours when there is no need will not result in the phone exploding in the face. But it will result in shortening battery capacity, so if you do not change your phone every year or two, you will witness how the smallest tasks will eat up a significant chunk of the battery.
