Karachi In A Terrible State After Third Monsoon Rain Spell

Another destructive rain spell has struck Karachi. The city of lights is currently flooded with muddy water, and the citizens are unable to move anywhere.

The Third Monsoon Rain Spell

The third monsoon rain spell of the season has destroyed the city to its core. Monsoon spells in the town always wreak havoc because what ensues can be fatal for many as well. The low-lying areas are flooded, roads are entirely inundated, and power outages are caused.

Have a look at this!

At least five people, including two children, are reported to have died due to rain-related issues. As you already might have seen, pictures show the water standing has submerged cars in it completely.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has also predicted another shower today, on 27th July. “Monsoon currents of moderate-intensity continue to penetrate in Sindh. Under the influence of this system, moderate rain/thunderstorms and gusty winds with rather heavy falls at times are likely in all districts of Sindh, including Karachi, today and tomorrow,” the department said.

On the other hand, downpours were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir on Saturday. Balakot reported 21mm of rain, Bannu reported 20mm while it rained 6mm in Muzaffarabad.

The Consequences of The Rain Spell

K-Electric (KE) has made a statement that they have had to cut power due to waterlogging. The power supply in the low-lying areas where water had collected to that extent would result in a “safety hazard.”

KE also made a tweet in which they were asking people to refrain from calling on 118 for trivial issues. It seems as if calls were being made to them out of fear even though the problem was not grave.

The Lives Lost

Shakil Ali, SHO of Steel Town, remarked that a 10-year-old boy had lost his life. The boy identified as Arbab had come into contact with a fallen electricity wire in Gulshan-e-Hadeed while playing outside his house. The family, however, would not like to pursue this case legally. 22-year-old Usman Akhtar also lost his life the same way.

A 27-year old man fell into the water when the Nala in his area was over-flowing due to the rains. His body was also carried away by the water and later retrieved by Edhi foundation workers.

A fountain electrocuted 55-year-old Yusuf. A five-year-old boy also drowned in a drain.

The list might keep on getting bigger, and it’s heart-wrenching. The monsoon season usually brings cravings of pakoras, love, and laughter. However, for Karachi, Monsoon has not been anything but deadly and terrifying.

All You Need To Know About V2G Technology By Electric Automakers

electric school bus by dominion
PC: Facebook

Dominion Energy, a Virginia, US-based utility, is working on methods to support the integration of a new 2.6-gigawatt offshore wind farm.

The company has come up with a plan to use the batteries for electric school busses as a grid flexibility asset.

The project worth $16million will allow Dominion to distribute 50 battery-powered electric school busses. These busses will be distributed locally and are equipped with bidirectional charging.

When these busses are in an idle position, the utility will store excessive energy in the batteries. This technology is known as vehicle-to-grid or V2G. Although it is not new, it is still in the process of development with plenty of potential for futuristic evolving.

V2G technology is being considered as a progression for electric vehicle smart charging as trials for this energy-management and storage asset seem promising and are currently on-going. However, finding the right bus models to support this technology is the tricky part.

Dominion aims to launch the first 50 utilities integrated with V2G tech by the end of 2020 for commercial purposes.

The unique profile of electric school buses, where they park, the hours they operate and the miles they run, means much of the electric battery capacity isn’t needed much of the time, creating a great opportunity for shared battery use, -Mark Webb, senior vice president and chief innovation officer at Dominion Energy

Pakistan to Manufacture Electric Rickshaws Under New EV Policy!

The cost of just one bus is $325,000; however, the manufacturer will provide these busses at the rate of $100,000 (same price as diesel busses) to schools. Once the school busses have made their rounds for the day, they will return to their designated depots and will be plugged into the bidirectional chargers.

Once they have been connected, the utility will charge the batteries using a digital-based energy-management system, which takes 3-3.5 hours at the optimal time. The management system – APEX, has been provided by Proterra, a California based automotive and energy storage company.

Offshore wind will produce more electricity primarily in the evening, afternoon, or night time; with this program, we can charge the batteries when those renewables produce energy and have the flexibility to use it when we need it.

This helps stabilize the distribution grid for voltage levels and other factors, -Dan Weekley, vice president of innovation policy and development at Dominion Energy

Weekly continues:

There will be, I’m sure, a learning curve as we explore and investigate different uses and ways to maximize its value as the grid evolves because it is constantly changing due to the type of power it’s managing.

Overall, Weekly says that the project has been popular amongst residents as the busses provide 6-times-better internal air quality as compared to the non-electric variants, and not to forget that this direct benefit is being given to the customer’s children.

Time will tell how fruitful V2G tech will prove to be for students across America, and eventually around the world. As EV technology is currently making its way into Pakistan via policies, it will be interesting to see how the country plans to adapt to it.

The Madrasa schooling system in Pakistan

Pakistan’s madrasa system has received much criticism over time. They have always been considered unsafe, not on par with modern education, and a backup option for those who cannot afford other schooling systems.

Madrasa’s like Baitussalam are changing the mainstream perception about the madrasa culture. Baitussalam students are equally well-versed in the subjects of science and technology as they’re in Quranic themes.

Even though the mainstream media has still not covered this considerable achievement, some celebrities have appreciated the students. Waqar Zaka and Hamza Ali Abbasi have tweeted on the Baitussalam madrasa’s achievement.

Meet Shazia Parveen, Pakistan’s First Woman Firefighter

Shazia Parveen

There is not a thing that women cannot do. Our women have been proving this in all the fields. Mariam Mukhtar, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, Naseem Hameed, and many others have shown it numerous times.

From risking their lives to making a mark in the world that is dominated by men, there is nothing women have not achieved. We can find many stories of such courageous women in our everyday lives. Shazia Parveen is another addition to that list. She is the first female firefighter in Pakistan.

Pakistan’s first female firefighter

Shazia belongs to the Vehari district of Punjab. She has been working since 2010. Shazia joined 1122, the emergency rescue service. She has taken part in many rescue operations and fire fighting expeditions. She has helped people in dangerous situations.

Shazia knows that her job is quite a risky one. She says that it is still a fulfilling one because she gets to go home satisfied after helping people at the end of the day. In an interview, Shazia Parveen said that society restricts women to type-casted professions; for instance: teaching, nursing, medicine, etc.

Parveen says that she was one of the lucky ones whose parents support them. Shazia’s father, Rehmat Ullah, was a former army man. He encouraged his daughter to pursue her passion and follow her dreams. Shazia says that when she told him that she wanted to join the rescue services 1122, he encouraged her. Rehmat Ullah died last month.

Shazia Parveen said that she has always had the support and confidence of her entire work squad. She praised the work environment at the Rescue 1122. She said women should not hesitate when choosing their profession just because people say that it is not “suited for women.” Parveen was transferred to the Lahore department at Thokar Niaz Baig as Lead Fire Instructor after six years in the firefighting.

Shazia Parveen is now an instructor to new members. She teaches standard operating procedures for firefighting. She instructs members in climbing high buildings, rescuing people, and extinguishing fires.

Shazia Parveen-an inspiration to many

Women like Shazia Parveen is an example for society. Shazia created a place for herself in a profession that is considered “unsuitable for women.” This is an example that one can achieve everything if they genuinely work for it. Hopefully, Shazia Parveen is the first of the many changemakers of society, and soon we will be able to get out of the gender stereotypes based on professions.

One of the many encouraging things in Shazia’s story is the way her father supported her. It is empowered parents who raise healthy and empowered women. Shazia’s team also deserves to be encouraged as they have never made her feel uncomfortable or discriminated against her.

In our society, people restrict women to certain professions, such as teaching and medicine. Even then, most families do not allow most of them to work after they get married. The concept of “doctor bahu” is prevalent throughout the country. People like Shazia Parveen are the trendsetters of the society.

Islamabad’s First Smart School To Teach Children For Free!

smart school
source: theirworld.org

According to UNICEF, Pakistan has the second-highest number of children who do not attend school (out of school children). Pakistan has 22.8 million children aged 5 to 16 who are not attending school. This represents 44% of the school-going age children in Pakistan. Now, Islamabad’s first smart school will be providing free education as well as skills to those children.

This structure is designed by Zaha Hadid, who is a well-known architect all over the world. The school will be arranged in the capital city of Pakistan, Islamabad. Education Above All (EAA) gifted this structure to Pakistan. EEA is a Doha-based foundation. It is working in Pakistan along with Alight Pakistan. This initiative will educate around one million out of school children in Pakistan. This makes it the largest primary school education initiative all across the country.

It is a massive step for education in Pakistan and may help change the educational infrastructure in the country. This collaboration between Alight Pakistan and Future Development Holdings is an exemplary step. It will be the first of its kind innovative and energy-efficient school in the Capital Smart City. The school will also include a clinic for people, job placement and skill development centres, and a playground for children.

On Thursday, Alight Pakistan and Future Development Holdings signed the contract at the Future Development Housing’s office. Zahid Rafiq, the Group Chairman of Future Development Housing, said that this initiative aims to provide benefits of modern life to the marginalized communities of the society. Zahid Rafiq said, “This partnership will be an effort to uplift and dignify children through providing quality learning free of cost.”

A much-needed initiative in Pakistan

smart school
source: internetsociety.org

This has been a much-needed initiative in the educational sector. The statistics regarding children who do not get to go to school are alarming. There are various reasons for this. For instance: parents who have financial issues cannot afford to pay for their children to go to school. In remote areas of the country, schools are located far from the villages. This makes it difficult for parents to send their young children, especially girls, to school.

The educational inequality

smart school
source: dawn.com

Furthermore, there exists a massive inequality in the education sector. Different facilities and distinct quality of education are available for children from specific social classes. Parents who can afford to send their kids to schools that demand high fees do so. At the same time, others are stuck with government schools. One should not ignore the lack of necessities and teaching staff at government schools. Government schools have no infrastructure, no furniture, or facilities such as water and electricity.

Despite many promises, governments have failed to deliver in the educational sector. We hope that this initiative by Alight Pakistan and FDH will pave the way for many more efforts of this kind.

What do you think about the first smart school in Islamabad to provide education to children from marginalized classes? Let us know in the comment section below.

5 Things You Should Absolutely AVOID Doing This Eid-ul-Adha

Eid ul Adha
source: Dawn

This Eid ul Adha will not be any more happening than Eid-ul-Fitr except in some ways. Nevertheless, Eid ul Adha is more about food and sacrificial animals than other things. However, Eid dinners and barbeque parties still form a big part of the Eid ul Adha. This Eid ul Adha will be much different from the kind of Eids we are accustomed to celebrating.

Here are some things we should avoid doing this Eid ul Adha:

1. Going to barbeque parties and Eid dinners

Eid ul Adha
source: Samaa News

Since coronavirus is still very much a threat to our families and us, we must take safety precautions beforehand. You should avoid going out to a barbeque party with your friends or family. EId dinners and gatherings should also be canceled. Instead, we must find the true spirit of an Islamic Eid.

2. Not following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

As I have mentioned above, we should try to avoid attending Eid parties and dinners at all costs. However, one should follow the SOPs if they have to attend. This will ensure that you stay protected and do not be a threat to your friends and family. Ignoring SOPs that are for our protection will only put you and your loved ones at risk. You should also encourage others to follow these SOPs.

3. Not caring about sacrificial animals

The true spirit of Eid that we talked about earlier, this is it. If you buy a sacrificial animal, ensure that it is well-rested and well-fed every day. Nowadays, people have become so insensitive to harmless animals, and they exhibit this behavior in supposedly “funny” videos. Hence, make sure that you take care of your sacrificial animal.

2. Stocking up meat for using it throughout the year

One should not stock up meat to use it throughout the year. This year, the global pandemic coronavirus has worsened the economic situation of many households. We must remember those who would not be able to sacrifice this Eid. In the remembrance of the true spirit of Eid, we must share our meat with as many people as we can.

1. Showing off the quantity or the beauty of your sacrificial animal’s

Eid ul Azha
source: Dunya News

As Eid ul Adha comes closer, people start to buy animals to sacrifice. They also take their animals on a walk, post pictures of them, and talk to their friends about it. It has become quite a trend to ask the prices of each other’s animals and buy a more expensive animal than others to show off to them.

This takes away the real meaning behind the Eid ul Adha in Islam. Since the economic conditions of many people are worse this year than they were before, we must make sure we do not end up hurting someone.

What do you think are the other things that we should avoid this Eid ul Adha? Let us know in the comment section below.

5 Reasons Why Female Led Businesses Are Not Taken Seriously

female-led business

All businesses experience problems. It does not happen that female-led companies have it easy or a multi-million dollar business walks on rose petals. These COVID-affected times are the perfect example to support this claim.

COVID-19 did not see whether a business had female leadership or whether it was a multi-million dollar business; it wreaked havoc just the same. Unfortunately, however, humans do not have any no-discrimination policy like the coronavirus strain.

While COVID affected everyone regardless of gender, we, humans, are still not taking female-led businesses seriously.

Let’s talk about why that is so!

1. Preconceived Notions and Bias

female led businesses

Preconceived notions and gender norms highlight women as caregivers and homemakers. So when women enter the work field, most people assume that those women themselves are not serious and will eventually go back to being a housewife. And therefore, we see men showing niceties towards them. They are more professional when dealing with a man even if the hierarchy suggests that man to be the woman’s subordinate.

2. Living up to others’ expectation

female led businesses

These experiences teach women that to survive in this male-dominated industry, they might need male characteristics such as aggressive nature instead and abandon the characteristics that define them. But does that help in being taken seriously? Not so much. This is because in adopting someone else’s personality, they lose what sets them apart. And it is very likely that in losing what defines them makes them lose their confidence as well.

3. Fear of Owning One’s accomplishments!

“I have achieved…”

“We have achieved…”

Society has embedded in us that women should not brag. Women, hence, find themselves using sentences with ‘We’ rather than ‘I’ to explain their achievements. This downplays their worth in the eyes of the person they are addressing. Naturally, when one sees a vulnerability, they exploit it.

4. Lack of ambition!

The business world, for quite some time, has the label of ‘being a man’s world.’ Female leaders assume that they will find it hard to jump back up were they to fail. Hence, fear stops them from exploring further, and they settle in their comfort zone.

So, before losing the fear of failure, women need to unlearn the idea that they are in a man’s world. When they learn that they are not in someone else’s place, then only can they lose the fear of failure and have ambition.

5. The role of Networking Avenues for Females

Female led businesses

We all understand the importance of networking. But the problem arises when networking happens in avenues such as golf. Business leaders get together for playing golf and make alliances then and there. But assuming that women are not interested in golf, they do not get invites of these unofficial networking avenues.

However, that also leads to another question, even if golf has been associated with male networking, why is there not yet a female networking avenue. Could it be that not owning their achievements impacts women into thinking they are not ready to be mentors?

In a nutshell, we can say, the reason is not just one. To be taken seriously, women have to take themselves seriously first. We cannot say that by default, everyone will follow because of all the stereotypes and gender norms that women have grown up with, men have also learned. But it will allow women to be more comfortable in the business world and not assume that they have to prove it to men whether they deserve to be there or not.

5 Ways To Upgrade Your Boring Phone Without Spending Much

Phone upgrade

Upgrade your phone without spending much by reading this piece! An annoying phone is the last thing anyone wants. Sure, when you buy them, they have their charm, but it gets rusty after a while.

Many believe we’ve reached the peak phono stage, which means there’s no point or capacity to update anymore. However, even when you don’t want to change your phone, it can feel a bit boring. This guide is for you if you think the same:

1. Upgrade Your Cover

Making a DIY phone cover can be an excellent activity for you during the quarantine. If you’ve got the artistic flair in you, all you need is a plastic cover the size of your phone and some acrylic paints. Once you start painting something you love on the cover, you’ll see how it changes the look of the phone altogether.

Or, you could always get a little fancy and get a personalized phone cover. The choice is yours!

Throwback to when Kim Kardashian’s promoted LED light covers were all the rage. If you want a ring light, try opting for that phone cover.

2. Install A New Battery

Installing a new battery will genuinely take your phone from let’s say 50% to a whopping 90%. Battery age is not a myth, and it does affect your phone’s functionality a lot. While updating your phone may or may not slow it down, over time, your battery life will indeed deteriorate. So if you’re facing battery issues, you can get a new one installed.

3. Add More Storage

You often feel like changing your phone once your storage runs out. It makes you feel like your phone has gotten old now. However, that’s not true at all. Having fulfilled room can also be one of the factors that slow down your phone. Either transfer everything onto a hard-drive or get more room.

4. Add An Accessory

Adding an accessory can also jazz up your phone and give it a new vibe. There’s an accessory called Ninja Loop that works for almost every phone and case. It’s useful because you can have a secure grip on your phone, all the while having something unique on it.

5. Try New Features You Have Been Ignoring

Android and Apple both have some exciting features that most people are either unaware of or don’t try. You can just do a simple google search of ‘features you didn’t know’ of either phone. Trying out new features or putting them in place can do the trick in making you get over your annoying phone. This will help upgrade your phone by a mile.

3 Ways Big Data Is Changing The Game Of Marketing

big data

Big data is the new tool to get acquainted with to boost your business’ profits. It’s revolutionizing the way companies get to know their customers and make strategic moves. If you don’t know about it yet or know how to use it, this is all you need.

What Is Big Data?

Big data describes a large volume of data – both structured and unstructured – that floods a business daily. However, it’s not the amount of data that’s helping businesses. It’s what organizations do with the data that matters. Big data can be analyzed for insights that lead to better decisions and strategic business moves.

The term “big data” refers to a form of data that is so large and complex that it’s impossible to process using traditional methods. The act of accessing and storing large amounts of information for analytics has been around a long time. But the concept of big data recently became the norm in the 2000s. So how does it help?

big data

1. Big Data Keeps Tabs For-Profits

Big data is closely tied to social media – think Facebook posts, tweets, and content shared on Pinterest and other social media platforms. These avenues provide a convenient method for analyzing how your product is received. What is being said in regards to your product, and what people want out of the products they see in the market and more.

Additionally, a sub-section of big data has to do with a phenomenon called ‘social listening.’ This is when a marketing team interprets the data and tailors the required products to your customer’s needs. This strategy is often also termed as a wish-fulfillment strategy. This information is also free of charge and can be quantified by doing a cursory Google search, as well as using analytics tools such as Google AdWords.

2. It Predicts Your Customer’s Needs Before

Big data has evolved to the point where it now has the power to predict the future. It can analyze customer data for you and predict what they might be needed in the future.

big data

For example, think of Amazon. If you, like Amazon, are using this strategy, then you can analyze the spending pattern of your customers and predict their future needs. Once you have done that, you can mainly market those products and boom! You have a surge in profits.

Additionally, companies can track the movements of shoppers by using data points. They get to see where these shoppers pause, helping them stock-specific aspects of this conversion tunnel with products. This, in turn, increases the chances of these shoppers purchasing a particular product.

3. Customization Is Key

As a company, what you need to know is that not all customers are the same. Your company will thrive if the experience is tailored specifically to their needs. Offering the same deals to all customers can be suicidal for companies that want to forge a connection of trust. This form of data saves the day when it comes to this.

It allows you to study the different trends and needs of each customer and instantly shows them something that aligns with that. When a customer feels understood, they will come back for that experience.

10 Unknown Facts About Istanbul’s Beautiful Hagia Sophia

Hagia Sophia

Hagia Sophia is the landmark spot of Istanbul where tourists and nationals flock for sight-seeing. The place has been the focal point of several debates and controversies as well— is it a museum, mosque, or church? Keep reading to find out ten interesting facts you didn’t know about it!

1. Hagia Sophia’s Went By Different Names

Initially, it was called the Great Church (Megale Ekklesia in Greek / Magna Ecclesia in Latin). The second incarnation of the Church came in 430 CE when it was named Hagia Sophia. Its Greek meaning, “Holy Wisdom,” remains still. After the conquest by the Ottomans, it was called Ayasofya, and today it is the Ayasofya Müzesi.

2. It Has A Dark Past

Hagia Sophia is the central religious building in Istanbul, which meant that whenever Istanbul was invaded, Hagia Sophia was subjected to change. It was ransacked and desecrated by crusaders during the Fourth Crusade, and then again by the Ottomans during their invasion of Constantinople in 1481. Its attraction is also morbid as it holds tombs of the Ottoman Sultans in the historic buildings next to it.

3. 10,000 Men Constructed The Dome Alone

It took 10,000 men to complete the original dome of Hagia Sophia. They completed it in a record time of 5 years, ten months, and four days!

4. The Church Was Destroyed Twice

It was first constructed in Constantinople in 360 CE by the Roman Emporer of the time. The initial, wood-constructed Hagia Sophia burned during a series of riots in 404 CE. In 415 CE, Emperor Theodosius II ordered the church rebuilt, but another revolt caused widespread death and destruction in the city. And so, the church was destroyed for the second time.

5. The Original Dome Collapsed

The original dome of the building that took five years to complete is not the dome you see today. It collapsed in 558 CE after an earthquake. Initially, the dome was designed by legendary Roman architects, but later it was redesigned. The second version was made higher than the original and included several smaller domes for support.

6. One of The 7 Ancient Wonders Was Used In Its Construction

To construct and beautify the interior of the church, pillars from the long-abandoned and destroyed Temple of Artemis in Ephesus were used. Additional building materials may also have come from ancient sites in Baalbeck and Pergamon.

7. Its Famous Mosaics Were Once Wiped Out

The original Byzantine rulers decorated the interior with gorgeous mosaics and paintings depicting biblical scenes. After the Ottomans conquered Constantinople, they covered up the figures and mosaics with whitewash and plaster as Islam does not allow for such graphics in a mosque.

8. A 90-Year Old Blind Venetian Captured It Once

A blind and almost 100 years old Venetian man once convinced the care-takers of the building to let him take the throne. For a short time, he assumed the throne, but later, he was killed in a deadly revolt and buried in Hagia Sophia as well.

9. It’s almost 2000 years old

The building is ancient in its most absolute terms. Historians have not settled on whether it is 2000 years old yet or almost about to reach it. Regardless, the building has been standing there for nearly 20 centuries, has housed three religions, and been built thrice! Talk about incredible.

10. Many Islamic Features Were Added Later

To convert the building to a mosque, several changes were made to its structure. The rulers ordered that a mihrab (prayer niche), minbar (pulpit), and a fountain for ablutions be added to the Hagia Sophia.

A multitude of minarets was added to the exterior, and a school, kitchen, library, mausoleums, and sultan’s lodge joined the site over the centuries.

Pakistani Female Police Officer Gets Fired For Making TikTok Videos

pakistani female officer

A Pakistani female officer has been fired for the smallest and most hypocritical reasons. The woman, now left without a source of earning in a dire situation, has turned towards social media. Hear her story:

About Wafa, The Pakistani Female Officer

Wafa made a video that went viral on social media. She begins the video by saying she’s confiding in us “as friends” because she wants to say something. Wafa continued to reveal that she has been dismissed over making a single TikTok in her uniform.

She agrees it was a mistake, and she was also willing to pay the price for it. She mentions that she’d accept a pay cut, a notice, or a warning, but alas, she was directly dismissed. However, does the punishment fit the crime here?

Wafa mentions how the TikTok video was neither controversial nor the only one ever made by a Pakistani police officer. She suggests others who are making TikTok’s while being on duty and in uniform, yet they get away with it.

Wafa’s parents, unfortunately, got separated soon after she was dismissed, and she’s the eldest in the family. She no longer has a way to earn and is moving from one place to another. She raises a question at the end that is incredibly moving: “what did they get out of this?”

The Support She Has Garnered

Pakistanis on twitter have always vowed to help Wafa. The support she has garnered is fantastic! Men and women alike are supporting her and tagging police officials of the highest rank to look into this manner. Others are also telling her about viable courses of action: file a suit for wrongful dismissal. We’re hoping the situation can come under the radar of the higher authorities and that Wafa is reinstated.

See some of the things people are saying:

The Plight Of A Working Woman In Pakistan

If you haven’t already, you can see Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s speech in Congress yesterday. A fellow representative hurled verbal abuses at her, and she lambasted him in Congress. The statement is one of the most incredible and truthful ones from 2020. However, the point isn’t about how she confronted her abuser. It’s about how even a US Congresswoman is not protected from abuses by fellow men.

Wafa’s case is, undeniably, an example of men misusing their power over her. Think honestly: would a male police officer in her place be fired over making a TikTok? That seems rather far-fetched. But since it was a woman, a woman also desperate to earn, they could exercise their free will as they please.

The working woman is not protected from unfair workplace practices and attitudes anywhere in the world, in any position. Is there an end to it?

200-year-old Gurdwara Restored in Quetta After 73 Years!

Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha has been restored after 73 years! At a time when only the construction of a single Mandir has been the source of such controversy, good news has emerged. Keep reading to know all about it!

About The Gurdwara

The Gurdwara is located in central Quetta, on Masjid road. After partition, it came into the territory of Pakistan. After that, it was converted into a government all-girls school. Interestingly, the Gurdwara is approximately 200 years old. Undeniably, any religious site, being as early as this Gurdwara is, is bound to be a place with immense value and significance.

The Gurdwara spread over 14,000 square feet also has a considerable price tag. Essentially, it is worth billions; however, the government has decided not to capitalize on it.

The Sikh Community of Pakistan

Chairman of the Sikh community in Balochistan, Sardar Jasbeer Singh, was elated with this piece of news. He expressed happiness over the restoration of the Gurdwara and believed it to be a gift from the government to the Sikh community residing in Balochistan.

Singh added that “Sikh community of the province is very pleased that our ancient Gurdwara has been handed over to the Sikh community by the Government of Pakistan and the Balochistan High Court after 73 years and now we can continue our religious practice”. Additionally, he also expressed how this decision of Pakistan was being appreciated across borders. “The Sikh community from all over Pakistan and the rest of the world appreciated this initiative,” said Singh.

Many Sikh families are residing in Balochistan, which makes this decision all the more critical. About 2,000 Sikh families are living in Quetta, Dera Bugti, Osta Muhammad, and Pashtun areas of the province.

Moreover, the recent launching of the Kartarput Corridor also serves to highlight Sikhism. The gurdwara is one of its kind and attracts many tourists too!

The Minorities in Pakistan

A few weeks ago, the construction of a mandir was announced, and the news exploded. While some sincerely appreciated this step towards greater inclusivity, others were angry. They did not want a mandir in Pakistan, “it is the Islamic Republic of Pakistan,” they said. This resulted in several protests, too, online and on roads, with the slogan “mandir toh banega”. We commend their resilience!

However, the debate isn’t about a single place of worship. It’s about the mindset that has come to be developed in the minds of Pakistanis and how it has been structurally enabled. MInorities are unsafe, unaccommodated, and unliked in Pakistan. For example, a Christian man was killed mercilessly recently. His crime was buying a house in a lane full of Muslim neighbors.

All in all, we’re hoping the government can continue down this path and make the situation better.

Apple’s Latest Ad Wins Hearts Without Featuring Any Product

Shot from Apple's latest TVC

Apple is churning out one appealing ad after another. While the last one we covered was a short film promoting their products, this one is something else. This features no products, no sets, nothing. It just has a small baby lying on a bed with a soothing voice over. If you want to know what it’s about (and we have a feeling you’d love to know what it’s about), keep reading!

Apple And Sustainability: Goals The Size Of The Brand

Apple’s latest ad shows its promise in the sweetest of ways. In 2020, Apple hit a milestone in its journey towards sustainability. The corporate giant announced that that they are officially carbon-neutral.

apple

In the same year now, they have set a goal for the next ten years, which is what the ad divulged. All their products are also set to become carbon neutral by 2030. In other words, they’re eliminating their carbon footprint by 2030.

What Is Carbon Neutrality?

Carbon neutrality, or having a net-zero carbon footprint, refers to achieving net-zero CO2 emissions. There are two ways to do this. Firstly, a balance can be created between carbon emissions and carbon removal. In other words, you remove as much carbon as you produce.

apple

Secondly, you can eliminate the production of carbon emissions by not producing any. This would require a fundamental shift in production techniques and processes. Ultimately, the goal is to go towards a “post-carbon economy.”

Why Apple’s Ad Made People’s Day

The ad features the most straightforward set of a minimalist room. All shades of white make the visual experience soothing automatically. The only actor in the commercial is an infant who’s sleeping peacefully on the bed despite the chirping of the birds and the sounds of the street. The baby is being greeted by a gentle voice that had to make the sweetest of promises in the most eloquent of ways. See the video for yourself here:

The Wave of Sustainability

Nothing is more hope-inspiring than seeing the most prominent brands take responsibility for their actions. Just recently, Pepsi and Diageo announced that they’re shifting entirely towards paper bottles. Adidas committed to making their shoes with ocean’s recycled plastic solely with their partnership with Parley.

Moreover, Burger King has become obsessed with cow burps and farts but for a good cause. The good reason is to reduce methane production from cattle farms, which constitutes a considerable part of the global greenhouse gases.

For the brands with such influence to be sharing the mandate that sustainability matters, it’s incredible. We’re hoping other brands jump on the right bandwagon for once.

Apple Is Giving Hacker-Friendly iPhones to Researchers

Apple
source: Medium

Apple is now providing its hacking-friendly iPhones to the researches. This will help the researchers in detecting the bugs in iOS. This hacker-friendly phone will offer greater access to researchers so that they will be able to run the code on iOS.

Apple Security Research Device Program

The company has announced a new program called Apple Security Research Device Program. Under the program, the famous tech giant will provide these particular iPhones to security researchers who already have a track record of uncovering vulnerabilities in the brand’s software.

The security experts will identify bugs in Apple’s operating system. The tech giant has made its application form public, so researchers who believe they are qualified enough for the task can apply in the program.

These new iPhone devices address the security concerns to the iPhones in a unique way like never before. Since Apple has always had a firm grasp on the functions and features of iOS, it has been tough for security researchers to figure out the weakness in the operating system. On the one hand, Apple’s strict security system makes sure that no malware can get inside or infiltrate its system. On the other hand, it stops researchers from analyzing the iPhones.

Apple’s security measure

Apple

Apple has always been protective of its security measures. Due to limited information available about iOS’ weaknesses and vulnerabilities, hacking companies pay a large sum of money to get their hands of this information.

Since this information can be precious to state-sponsored spies. Hacking companies that design tools for the government go to lengths to own this information. Some may even pay in millions of dollars to know about the significant security weaknesses of the system.

To ensure the security of the iPhone against such cyberspies and companies, Apple launched this program in the year 2019. As mentioned above, the brand will provide particular hacker-friendly iPhones to the world’s best security researchers. These phones will allow the selected researchers to execute whatever computer code they would like to run without any restrictions.

The restrictions on the researchers

Apple

Well, if you are thinking that these security researchers will have a great time after getting such an expensive phone only based on their qualifications, then let me tell you it is not like that.

The researchers will have the particular iPhone only for a year. They will, however, be able to renew the term once it ends. Furthermore, the researchers will not be allowed to use the phone for their personal use. The only purpose of this device is the research use.

They will neither be allowed to carry the phones outside their residents. The participants will have to report to Apple as soon as they find a weakness in the system. The brand will then fix the problem as soon as they would be able to. The researcher will not be allowed to speak about the bug publicly until it is solved.

What do you think about this program by Apple? Let us know in the comment section below.

6 Pro Tips You Should Use To Prepare For A Job Interview

prepare for an interview

Interviews are almost always nerve-wracking. Fresh graduates or five years in the corporate world, when going to a meeting, the pressure is the same. And honestly, that shows! It creates a wrong impression on the Interviewer, making your chances of passing extremely slim. So here are a useful few tips that you can keep in mind next time you are going to prepare for an interview that will ensure your success.

1. Know your audience

You should ALWAYS know your audience. You should know who is interviewing you. This is important because, for every company, the interview methods differ. Some times the department you want to apply does your interview, and some times the first interview is by Human Resources (HR). HR will never ask you about the technicalities of the job. So, know beforehand, who is interviewing you.

2. Dress accordingly

You might be comfortable in faded jeans and a T-shirt, but that is not the dress code for an interview. But neither is the floor-length gown or a tux. Your dress should make you look formal. Its the dress type on which the employers decide whether they find you reliable or not. Imagine for yourself, if an interviewee walks in dressed in casuals or partywear, the first thing that comes to mind is that they forgot about this appointment. They remembered it the last minute and did not bother to get into the office attire.

3. Analyze the job description

ALWAYS ALWAYS analyze the job description you are applying for. Even before you are starting to prepare for an interview when you are using for the job, that is when you should look and memorize the job description. Look at the skills they require and the tools they want you to use. This will help you in the future a lot since without realizing interviewees overcommit and then held responsible for not doing a complete job.

4. Play Match with Job Description

Once you know your JD inside out, play a match with your current qualifications. If you do not know about WordPress, don’t say you do! If the job requires the knowledge of SPSS and you do, remind yourself of its key features. The specific technical word show to the Interviewer you are a pro.

5. Research the company

This goes without saying. Let’s say you want to apply for the marketing department. The company you are applying for intends to enter an international market. Even if you are not looking to continue your career abroad, it will help you understand the mindset the company is currently in, and you can tweak your message according to that.

That is just an example. Point is you should always research the company because, say, executives sit in your interview panel, and you forget their names, it will get awkward. Remember, they are the ones who decide the interview result.

6. Interview Etiquette

THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT TIP TO REMEMBER!
The etiquette not only shows how much you want the job but also ensure the Interviewer doesn’t get uncomfortable. Remember these pointers, and you are off for an interview.

  • sit straight
  • don’t slouch
  • don’t lean towards the Interviewer
  • firm handshake
  • don’t stare for too long
Prepare for an interview

Do not take interviews for granted. Movies might tell you that a guy rushes to an interview unprepared, and he impresses the interviewers by honest opinions. But not everybody is Raju Rastogi.

prepare for an interview

Also, even Rastogi put on a tie, albeit on a half-sleeve shirt, probably to gain sympathy with bandages and all. So if you have an interview prepare for it and you will rock it. That should be your motto.
