Moreover, the entire Grand Mosque was disinfected to make it as secure as possible for the participants beginning the Hajj process from 28th July 2020.
The authorities gave the Hajj participants amenity kit. These kits include prayer rugs, sterilized pebbles they will need for stoning ritual, and ihrams, the garment worn during Hajj. Health facilities, mobile clinics, and ambulances will be set up as well to accommodate the Hajj performers in case of medical emergencies.

To ensure social distancing, Kaba is surrounded by rings to indicate how much distance needs to be observed between the participants. Authorities have also cordoned the Kaba. This way, the participants will not touch the building and spread the virus. This will also include not being able to kiss the black stone, Hajr-Al Aswad. Usually, the performers have to kiss the stone, but for obvious reasons, they will not be able to.

The report which was launched today has highlighted the challenges that the healthcare system has been facing in adapting appropriate nutrition programs and outlined the opportunities that lie ahead.
The report brings forward the main causes of the currently bleak situation, which consist of food insecurity, a dearth of nutritionists and dietitians and an insufficient awareness among people around the importance of nutrition, both in hospital and at home.
As per Lieutenant Commander Rabia Anwer, Vice President of the Pakistan Nutrition and Dietetic Society (PNDS), there’s a lack of trained nutritionists and dietitians in Pakistan. “Most patients are not screened for malnutrition upon admission into hospital. As a result, many commence their stay facing a hurdle, and more than two thirds of those with malnutrition decline further during their stay. If afflicted patients were identified early on and provided with a suitable diet by a trained dietitian, then complications, length of stay, readmission rates, mortality and cost of care would all be reduced.” – Lieutenant Commander Rabia Anwer, Vice President of the Pakistan Nutrition and Dietetic Society (PNDS)
“Nutrition is at the base of good health”, said Prof. Javed Akram, Vice Chancellor, University of Health Sciences, Lahore and founding President of the Pakistan Society of Internal Medicine. “Getting the important nutrients through an adequate nutrition is instrumental for people to grow and stay healthy at all stages of life. Among solutions that can remedy malnutrition and improve outcomes, are medically tailored meals, meal replacements and nutritional supplements.”
The report argues that a lack of nutritional knowledge among clinical staff in Pakistan is a persistent issue, and that giving the right food to patients is the simplest, safest, and cheapest way to provide nutritional care.

1. Filtering

They will feel like they can read the other person’s mind. In relationships, if this distortion is involved, well, one partner would fight with the other based on what he/she believes the other person is thinking.
3. Personalization
Your aunt is fighting with her daughter-in-law. And if you think that you are the main lead in that drama, my friend, that is another form of cognitive distortion. This one is called Personalization. In this, people think the world revolves around them. Another way to know if it is happening to you is by observing whether, in a random conversation with a friend, you start feeling that it all somehow links back to you. Someone with this distortion will also try to compare everyone with themselves in terms of beauty, brains, and whatnot.

The Third Wave Closure
Schools have been decided to remain closed until April 11th as the third wave of coronavirus strengthens its grip in Pakistan. These closures – at least 6 or 7 times – pose a huge obstacle to education. Online education is not the same and many have to appear for exams.
However, many students are extremely happy at the schools’ closure and demand for a postponing of exams.

#CancelExamsPakistan2021 is trending on Twitter. Students appearing for board exams, O level send-ups, A level mocks etc are all demanding for their exams to be cancelled. They base this demand on the reasons that their syllabus is incomplete and their mental health in shackles due to the pandemic.
Others are simply calling for closure because they are lazy and have not started studying for their exams yet. Are you the last-minute student or the topper one who has finished the syllabus thrice two months before?

Shafqat Mahmood has decided that the hotspots of coronavirus in Pakistan will see their educational institutes closed until April 11th. However, no one will be passed this year without appearing for exams.
ANNOUNCEMENT:
All Public & Private schools of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Sargoda, Sheikhupura will remain closed till April 11th, 2021. The remaining Districts will be open on previous schedule.
Local board exams will continue as per routine. Moreover, Shafqat Mahmood will meet with and discuss the postponement of CIES with the CIE board itself. It appears Sindh and Balochistan’s districts will have their educational institutions remain open.
Comparison with International Policies
The UK is a prime example of a country prioritising the education of its youth. When all else was closed, schools remained open. When a national lockdown was imposed, the first institution to open after its relaxation, were schools.

However, in Pakistan, the first thing closed are schools and the last thing opened are schools. Weddings are currently allowed with a massive upper limit of 300 people. Restaurants and parks are open yet schools have been closed.
This represents negligence of the attitude towards the education of Pakistan’s youth which can be challenged. If all else fails, primary schools shall be closed while higher education must be favoured.

Recent research in the COVID-19 stance has led to another discovery. The research shows that animals, specifically cats and dogs, tend to get infected by the concerning variant, B.1.1.7. This variant is now believed to be responsible for up to 30% of infection cases in people. The mutated variant is discovered in Texas, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
Amy Attas, VMD also a Founder of City Pets, a house call practice in Manhattan. She is also a board member of EcoHealth Alliance, a scientific organization whose mission is to predict and prevent pandemics. She explained that SARS-CoV-2 has the ability to cross species barriers. Domestic dogs and cats, minks, ferrets, and zoo animals have all been shown to become symptomatic and test positive for this virus.

COVID-19 Symptoms In Pets
The exact number of infected pets is yet to be determined because of the lack of testing. Studies show that pets’ symptoms can range from mild to nonexistent, sneezing, coughing, and diarrhea. A few studies have shown that cats can transfer SARS-CoV-2 to other cats. However, the data leading to this conclusion is still not enough.
Greg Nelson of the Central Veterinary Associates states that “Symptoms in pets have been noted to be mild in pets, and include sneezing, coughing, and diarrhea. More study will be required to see if that is coincidental, and more work will be required to determine if the pets were infected first then giving the infection to the owner or if the opposite is true”.
Safety Precautions for Pets
Even though the data is minimal when it comes to infection in pets, the safety precautions are still the same and have to be implied to prevent the spread of the virus. As a responsible pet owner, it is mandatory to wear a mask, wash hands and social distance while taking your pet out for a walk or even at home. Says the US researchers.

That could give scientists a better sense of how likely pets transmit the virus to other pets. How long pets remain contagious? And what if any clinical signs of COVID-19 show up?
Other researchers explore whether drugs that treat other coronaviruses in cats could also combat COVID-19 in both pets and people. “Answering these questions isn’t just important for companion animal health,” Sykes says. “It could help us, too.”

Harassment allegations have come to mean so much more in the past few years with the rising global movement, Me Too. Yes, people do misuse and exploit this movement, but occasionally, with the aid of Me Too, now people have begun to at least get the courage of speaking about it if they feel harassed. And as a result of one such allegation, an FIA (Federal Investigation Agency) official was suspended.
FIA official suspended
Yesterday, an FIA official got suspended for having allegedly harassed a woman at Karachi Airport. The official, Sanjay, is a Sub-Inspector at FIA. This suspension was a direct consequence of a viral video that shows the suspended official misbehaving with a lady. After the uproar on social media, Director FIA, Amir Farooqi announced that a proper investigation will be launched into the matter.
According to the video and the news circulating on social media, the official had asked a woman coming from Bahrain for her number and sweets (mithai). Clarifying his position, Sanjay said that he asked for the number for documentation purposes and the mithai was a joke.
It doesn’t come off as a surprise because numerous men have begun to think they own the public sphere and so they feel they have the right to joke around with females even if they do not know them.
Additional Director FIA, Zain Shaikh, later took to the public that the sub-inspector has been blacklisted at the airport and that FIA has seized his documents. FIA has said that after proper investigation, the ones in the wrong will be properly dealt with.
Some people approached Sanjay and it can be seen in the video that he is not able to satisfy the queries.
In the past as well, FIA officials have gotten suspended for misbehaving with people.

[Update]: iPhone 12 had stopped giving the charger with the phone. This had garnered a lot of attention by not just Apple consumers and potential consumers but also rivals. Initially, some of the rivals made fun but they have since followed suit. However, something Apple did not imagine was sent their way in Brazil.
A consumer protection agency has imposed a fine of $2 million dollars on Apple. Apple can launch an appeal but until now, they have not responded.
Just imagine, if Apple is not able to launch an appeal or win it, what would that say about Apple or its competitors who had also removed chargers from the package.
[July 21st, 2020]: iPhone 12, which was supposed to launch in September of this year, has now been delayed. Reliable leakers have confirmed that around this time, iPhone 12 might not come with two familiar accessories that are Apple’s earphones and power adapter, which can be a significant disappointment for so many Apple users.
According to Business Insider, Apple realizes that consumer power has declined, and to keep sales steady, the company is abandoning these accessories to keep the cost of the iPhone 12 around the same price as the previous iPhone lineup.

Another source, Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a decent track of predicting facts about Apple’s upcoming products, said that Apple might as well eliminate earphones from the box of the next flagship phone.
Please note that Apple itself has made no claims as yet because all analyst seems to use the word ‘may’ which indicates it is a long shot that their prediction might turn out to be correct. Kuo’s primary sources are from Apple’s supply-chain itself, which suggests that he might be just right.
Another analyst said the same thing based on reports
Our checks that likely no wired EarPhones will come in the iPhone 12 box/packaging.
Many on the internet suggested that the real reason behind Apple discontinuing the charger and the earphones is because they seem to want to boost sales on the Airpods. However, some analysts differ in opinion.
A different report by Kuo, however, also suggested that Apple will be removing the charger from the box too! The tech giant has not confirmed the news as yet.
Apple wants to keep selling the iPhone 12 at a similar price to the iPhone 11, and removing in-box accessories will offset the cost of the 5G networking components. This will presumably reduce the size of the iPhone packaging considerably, helping lower Apple’s freight costs and be better for the environment. It’s not clear if the Lightning cable is still included.
The report also suggested that this step will help the environment greatly as people already have chargers back home, and they do not need new ones every time they change a phone.
It is notable to mention that in Pakistan, the step will be considered a considerable disadvantage as buyers eagerly wait to update original accessories with each purchase.

Weddings are events which radiate pure joy and happiness. They can be a person’s best day of their life. When a person gets married, they are entering into a new chapter of their lives. In recent news, it seems that wedding hosts in a Faisalabad event gave gifts. These gifts were mobile phones! Is that not one of the craziest things we have heard?

Extraordinary Gifts:
You know how you’re at a wedding and they sometimes give parting gifts? They are a way to tell the guests that the hosts were happy to receive them. Gifts, in general, are a way to communicate good vibes and positive feelings. Of course, if that gift has a dynamite stick in it, it’s not much of a gift! Similarly, a Faisalabad wedding recently took place. It was quite a huge event and a lot of people came as guests.
After the wedding, the hosts decided to give gifts to their guests. However, this time, the gift itself was a bit different. Instead of edibles or flowers, the hosts announced that they are going to distribute mobile phones. They had said that much and the crowd went wild. They started to pile over one another, hoping to catch one of the phones that they were flinging in the air.
Ingenious Pakistanis:
The news doesn’t end here. Our brilliant Pakistani minds were seen at work even at this event. Apparently, many people appeared at the wedding with nets. These are nets that are used to often clean swimming pools and other water locations. The people held the nets high so that the thrown mobile phone landed in their net! This is an absolutely ingenious and brilliant idea. The level of innovation in that one instance is quite high.
The video of this wedding has gone viral everywhere. People are looking at it in complete shock and awe. They cannot believe their eyes that such a thing could be possible. Firstly, it is extremely rare to see takeaway gifts being mobile phones. However, it seems that the hosts can afford it so who are we to judge? Secondly, the nets! The nets are getting laugh and love reacts all over the internet!
These ideas and innovations show how much we stand out. It is definitely not a bad thing either. One should always think to stand at a slight distance from the other person. This is so they can have their own spotlight and not steal the other person’s thunder either.
We hope that the people who got the mobile phones have much fun using them. It must not be taken granted for, either. There isn’t a day everyday that mobile phones are given away as gifts like this. Who even knows which phones they are! For all we know, they are latest ones which good processing power.

foodpanda Pakistan, Pakistan’s largest delivery platform has pledged to support the governmental initiative of planting millions of trees in Pakistan. In collaboration with commissioner Karachi and DG Parks KMC, the first phase of the activity took place in Polo Ground, Karachi where foodpanda planted more than 10,000 saplings.
Mr. Navid Ahmed Shaikh, Commissioner Karachi and Mr. Taha Saleem, DG Parks & Horticulture KMC, were present at the event along with foodpanda stakeholders.
With the objective of supporting environmental sustainability and development, this is the first of many such plantation drives that will take place each quarter in various cities in Pakistan. Foodpanda riders, vendor partners and Home chefs along with foodpanda employees and governmental officials planted 5 varieties of saplings. Night Blooming jasmine, Arabian Jasmine, Bougainvillea glabra, curry leaf, and lilac tasselflower were among the various saplings planted.
Speaking at the event, Commercial Director foodpanda Pakistan, Muntaqa Peracha said, “Environmental sustainability is one of our core values and we resolutely believe that the future is green living through sustainability and renewable energy. In the first phase of this initiative, we are focusing on tree plantation in the country while actively exploring fuel efficient and alternate delivery methods and recyclable packaging.”
Mr. Navid Ahmed Shaikh, Commissioner Karachi appreciated the initiative and showed support for such activities.

We hear odd and bizarre news everyday. Where we read good news, we are also reading the other side of that coin. It seems that today, we have one of the most interesting pieces of news of the day. Two students have been fined, at Gomal University, KPK for none other than listening to music!

Students Under Fire:
This news has slid across our desk today. Two students were, allegedly, listening to music on university premises. However, it seems they were listening to music in the teaching area, as was claimed.
The ICIT (Institute Of Computing And Information Technology) department said that they did so during teaching hours. Additionally, they also stated that they motioned the students to stop the music, several times.
Finally, after not abiding to their warnings, they decided to impose a fine on them both. According to the sources, they were fined Rs.5000 for listening to music on university premises.
According to them, it was in the teaching area and they gave several warnings to the students. However, it does seem that this fine is too hefty of an amount for just listening to music. It feels like it might be quite a lot on the students.
Fined On Music, Is This ‘Footloose’?
There is a film, starting Kevin Bacon, by the name of ‘Footloose’. In it, out protagonist settles in a town where dancing and music is illegal. He then goes ahead and rebels, showing them how to truly move about life. Being fined on music reminds the writer of this article about that film. It is definitely a recommended watch.
Out of the two students fined, one is enrolled in a masters programme. The other is enrolled in an undergraduate programme. The VC has clarified that the administration has only banned drugs, smoking and political acts on campus.
This conflict of statement and act has brought about a lot of fire on twitter. On the one hand, they are not including music in this. Then, they are also fining students for listening to it. The VC also said that they don’t mind the students listening to music when it’s not disturbing others.
The Twitter public has had a lot to say on this event. Many are calling out the educational institutions of Pakistan on putting pressure on students. This is not the first time students have come under fire over controversial circumstances. Recently, a student proposed to her fellow mate in university. In the video, she was seen on her knee, with a bouquet of flowers.
This video was received in both a positive and negative light. After a while, we got to hear that the two students have been expelled for displaying ‘inappropriate behavior’ on campus.
This is just another example of how these places seem to be pressing down hard on the students. They haven’t committed a crime and they haven’t violated any major rules. There should always be room for tolerance otherwise there would be nothing but punishments and fines.
