Snapchat’s Older Version Might Finally Make a Come Back After All!

Well, if you have been patiently waiting for the old Snapchat to return, you might just be in luck!

Although CEO Evan Spiegel previously told users to get used to the new version, the old one might just come back!

The new algorithm brought a little different to the company, as old users were not too happy with the sudden change.

Even Kylie Jenner shared a tweet of her not being fond of Snapchat anymore due to the update!

The aim of the update was towards business profiles after Instagram had introduced Stories which local businesses have been using to cash on. Snapchat caused the daily active user’s growth of Snapchat to fall from 17% to 3% after this.

Old Snapchat to Comeback?

A petition has been signed by over 1,250,000 people asking Evan to bring back the older version. Although going back to the old feed might not be suitable for new users and for the growth of the application, current users are not ready to settle for the new one.

According to Telenews, Snapchat initially ignored the feedback, but some users have reported seeing the Stories feed revert to the classic chronological order, rather than the algorithmically sorted feed recently.

Will the old Snapchat ever come back? Let us know what you think!

Saba Qamar’s Hindi Medium Went from Reel to Real!

What parents won’t do to get the best education for their children? A recent reel-to-real case has come into the light, in which a wealthy businessman, faked poverty to get his son admitted to a posh Delhi School.

Similar to the plot of the Saba Qamar and Irrfan Khan starrer, ‘Hindi Medium’. The man went to extreme measures for his son’s admission.

However, unlike the movie, this particular case did not see a happy ending. In fact, the accused was arrested by the Delhi Police on Saturday.

“The man made false EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) certificate, residence proof and I-T return documents among others,” DCP Madhur Verma, New Delhi was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

The man in question? Gaurav Goel.

Goel had forged documents in 2013 for his elder son’s admission at the Sanskriti School in Chanakyapuri under the weaker section category quota. For that purpose, he stated his address as Sanjay Camp (slump near Chanakyapuri) showing an Indian Rs.67,000 as annual income.

However, when Goel tried the same tactic for his second son’s admission under the sibling quota, his truth came out which eventually led to his arrest.

The school found major discrepancies in the papers filed by Goel which alerted the officials leading them to call the cops.

According to a police official, what gave Goel away was his overconfidence. He told the school officials to shift his son from EWS to the general category due to improvement in his financial condition. He mentioned that he had an apartment in Safdarjung enclave which further strengthened the suspicion.

The complaint filed against him by the school led to an investigation. Income records showed Goel to be the owner of an MRI lab along with a wholesale business of pulses. Records also revealed that he has traveled to 20 countries.

Upon this revelation, Goel was arrested and his son’s admission has been cancelled. The police are now investigating whether any government employ had helped him in forging the documents.

Who would have thought this day would come?

BlackBerry Sues Snapchat Over Infringement!

BlackBerry is in the news again and this time it’s for suing Snap – parent company of the popular Snapchat mobile application – for allegedly infringing it’s patented messaging technology.

The 71-page complaint filed by the company accuses Snap of infringing six of their patents including UI improvements for mobile devices, advertising techniques and map improvements according to the Verge.

“It also cites Snap Maps and the display count of unread messages on a notification dot as infringing activities,” the report said late on Wednesday.

Last month Blackberry had filed a lawsuit against Facebook and its subsidiaries in Los Angeles court – Instagram and WhatsApp – alleging the company for infringing on its patents.

Interestingly, the patents that are included in the complaints against Snap also appeared in the Facebook suit that BlackBerry had filed last month.  These two patent referred to the time data in messaging conversations while the other was for the display count notification dot.

According to the complaint, it was stated that BlackBerry had tried to resolve the matter outside court but had been unsuccessful in doing so.

In 2016, BlackBerry had sold its rights to design, manufacture and sell the BlackBerry branded mobile devices to TCL (Chinese company) and now focuses on producing the company’s mobile security products along with the software.

Facebook Discontinues Search Using Numbers & Email in Latest Update!

Facebook has certainly landed itself in troubled waters lately. With the recent Cambridge Analytica Case they have been trying to correct the situation by bringing updates to the platform.

Past updates include deploying safeguards for the protection of user data, disabling the third-party application data sharing as well as tweaking the ad targeting email policy.

In order to increase user data security, Facebook has now decided to shut down the search option for users using their phone numbers and email address.

This development is a result of not only the scandal related to the data breach but also due to the increase in data scraping activity on Facebook.

In a blog post, Facebook writes, “Given the size and class of the exercise we’ve seen, we imagine most individuals on Fb may have had their public profile scraped on this method. So we’ve now disabled this characteristic.”

As per latest Facebook reports, some ‘malicious actors’ form the ‘Dark Web’ were able to access people’s phone numbers and email addresses which they then used to link users profiles.

This is a major concern for not only the social media giant but also to the users as well. With this sensitive information, hackers and such are able to access all information that a user uploads and shares on their profiles, leading to potential threats along with identity theft of the user.

Mark Zuckerberg on Wednesday said, “We constructed this characteristic, and it’s very helpful. There have been lots of people utilizing it up till we shut it down at this time.”

Although Facebook allows users to customize their privacy and restoration settings, most of the users tend to stick to the default settings. This can lead to personal information being exposed to the wrong people.

Here’s All That Went Down at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2018

Pakistan’s avant-garde prêt-à-porter platform, Pakistan Fashion Design Council (PFDC) Sunsilk Fashion Week 2018 brought a joie de vivre gala to Lahore, with style being celebrated like never before!

Showcasing a new glossy venue and a refined format, the three-day long event hosted a glitzy lineup of rising and veteran designers.

With the right razzmatazz and the perfect pomp, the fashion week opened with a handful of collections that bowled us over with their exquisiteness.

Beginning with a High-Fashion Punch!

Successfully managing to raise the fashion quotient, the extraordinaire Sana Maskatiya’s ‘Color Dash’ was the highlight of the debut day.

Characterizing the contemporary women, Maskatiya’s designs were a funky blend of corporate and trendy style statements.

However, it was the young designer Hira Ali’s  Luxury Prét collection “Woman is Future” that became the talk of the town for its bold take on women empowerment.

Showcasing savvy slogans along with her line-up, Ali has smartly seized the social media spotlight for her out-of-the-box approach.

Ensembles by Debutante ‘Arjumand Bano’ were not really groundbreaking but exhibited extreme sartorial potential.

And the collection of up and coming designer, Hussain Rehar too were applaudable!

Also introduced this year was the PEL Craft/Design show with GOLD by Reama Malik showcasing 4-piece capsule collections by  Akif Mahmood, Hamza Bokhari, Shahroz Tariq and Zonia Anwaar.

A Heavy Rain of High Street & Luxury Pret on Day Two

Injecting some more sass to the fashion week were the solo shows by Nida Azwer and Saira Rizwan.

In an ostentatious display of tie-dyes and preppy patterns, Saira Rizwan’s upbeat collection ‘Tribal Bijoux’ single-handedly stole the limelight.

Meanwhile, Nida Azwer’s Mughal Court theme left us in awe.

The collection was the epitome of elegance and was oozing with royalty, brandishing eastern silhouettes and subtle shades.

Making some cheeky style statements on the ramp was the new menswear brand ‘Rici Melion’ with his ‘Uleysses’ collection. Spotted on the runway was a clown, a king with a stuffed tiger on his shoulder and a dramatic prankster to name a few.

Though the collection was quite eccentric, it managed to attract all the eyeballs it wanted.

Making some vibrant, saucy noise on the runway was Saira Shakira with her neon based collection  ‘Canvas’.

Creating a summer romance with chikan fabric on the ramp was Image with Dance Of Spring.

But it was Shireen Hasan that brew up a viridescent storm as she flaunted the art of block printing to the fullest.

The Finale was all About HSY!

With names like Zonia Anwaar, Rang Rasiya, So Kamal, KHAS and Rouge, day 3 was an impactful one with HSY shaking things up in the end.

The courtier’s ‘Knight’ Collection had created a massive buzz on social media prior to the showcase.

Enunciating the fact that women are their own saviors, HSY’s sleek line-up delved in hues of black and gold, with dazzling sequins and delicate adornments.

Bringing in the cool element to catwalk was Omar Farooq’s Republic.

Inspired by Japanese manga comic art, the chic collection rolled out casual jackets, hoodies, sweatshirts and track pants.

Fahad Hussayn made us fall in love with drapes and gowns all over again with  ‘The Gilded Wastelands’ collection.

A dose of Pablo Picasso was splashed out on the ramp with Mona Imran’s striking imageries and eye-catching geometrical accessories.

PFDC Sunsilk Fashion 2018 surely added a plethora of trendsetting moments to the bona fide fashion industry of Pakistan. The extravaganza that began with profusions of glamor came to an equally glamorous end.

Brand Making a Difference – Mazboot Banegi, Meri Beti Parehgi!

Pakistan has shown some positive economic indicators in the past couple of years. According to IMF/World Bank GDP (PPP) forecasts for the 2017-2022, Pakistan has been predicted to be world’s 3rd fastest growing trillion dollar market, with its economy becoming more stable over the years.

However, as per World Economic Forum’s Global Human Capital Report 2017, our nation has been ranked as one of the worst countries for Education and Skills Development.

This clearly shows that education, being one of the most important social indicators contributing towards a developed nation, has been overshadowed in Pakistan.

This is especially apparent when it comes to the gender divide in educational opportunities for boys and girls!

Despite dynamic advancements, there are still some conservative mindsets that thrive in society, making it difficult for women to flourish and break through barriers.

DID YOU KNOW

‘Pakistan’s WOMEN MAKE UP 48.76% of THE POPULATION’

When it comes to education, the literacy rate for women against men is even less in number.

FOR THOSE WHO ARE UNAWARE

‘Pakistan has THE 6th Highest FEMALE POPULATION in the World’!

Out of 34 million school going Pakistani girls, only 11 million ends up going to school. However, 5 million manage to graduate from high school.

WHAT RESTRICTS GIRLS FROM THEIR RIGHT TO EDUCATION?

There are several factors that influence the parent’s decision to withdraw their daughters from schools

  • Families with less income and more children prefer educating boys as they are a source of financial support in the future
  • 42% of the world’s underage girl marriages happen in Pakistan and continues to be on the rise
  • Due to limited girls’ schools and colleges, families do not send their daughters to co-education institutes

EDUCATING GIRLS = PROGRESSIVE SOCIETY

“One child, one teacher, one book and one pen, can change the world” -Malala Yousufzai

Believe it or not, the right to education has been a fight that females have been facing from the beginning. Once, Sir Sultan Muhammad Shah was once heard saying;

“Personally, if I had two children, and one was a boy and the other a girl, and if I could afford to educate only one, I would have no hesitation in giving the higher education to the girl. The male could bend his energies to the manual effort for reward, but the girl’s function was the maintenance of home life and the bringing up of the children. Her influence in the family circle was enormous and the future of the generation depended upon her ability to lead the young along the right paths and instruct them in the rudiments of culture and civilisation.”

Statistics show that if the literacy rate of women increases by 1%, the average level of GDP will elevate by 0.37%.

“You educate a man, you educate a man.  You educate a woman, you educate a generation” -Brigham Hill

This is a powerful factor to be considered for a developing country like Pakistan.

IT’S TIME TO SHOW OUR DAUGHTERS THEIR PATH TO DESTINY

Since independence, Pakistani women have made us exceptionally proud on international platforms including; Fatima Jinnah, Samina Baig, Malala Yousafzai, Benazir Bhutto, Muniba Mazari, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Syeda Ghulam Fatima and the list goes on.

Understanding and acknowledging the importance of educating girls, Lifebuoy Shampoo has unveiled a campaign to awaken the nation to this pressing issue – ‘Mazboot Banegi, Meri Beti Parehgi’ is a campaign which highlight’s issues like, conservative mindset of parents, early girl child marriage, boys given preference over girls, as the core reasons why young girls of Pakistan are deprived of the basic right to education. The short films then go on to show how parents, especially the mother, plays a pivotal role in being the protagonist for her daughter’s stronger future by giving her the gift of education.

UNITE WITH LIFEBUOY SHAMPOO TO MAKE IT ALL HAPPEN!

While the focus is to spread awareness about the importance of girl child education throughout Pakistan, the brand also aspires to create a self-sustaining platform in partnership with other organizations to enable more girls to go to school

Let’s join hands with Lifebuoy Shampoo to help our girls become strong, independent women! A simple missed call on 080033000 will help you pledge to this noble cause.

CPEC Chinese Engineers Disrespect Pakistan’s National Flag!

Pakistan is known for its welcoming citizens and hospitality, but, no one had ever thought that our guests would be the ones to disrespect our officers, citizens, and nonetheless, our national flag!

A video shot in the city of Khanewal shows some of the most unbelievable footage one can lay eyes on! China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) engineers were not only beating the police but were also physically and verbally abusing the citizens as well.

These engineers are a part of the highway project which links M4 Motorway from Bahawalpur to Faisalabad under CPEC. The Chinese men got into an argument with the local police over security.

Reports further state that the men wanted to camp without security, however, when the police denied their appeal, they started to become violent. One of the project engineers who was identified as Danny, reportedly threw a chair at the squad incharge.

However, the most indecent act from their side was to climb on to the bonnet of the police vehicle with Pakistan’s flag on the side. The is definitely not something which can be deemed acceptable as a flag is more than just an identification of a country for its countrymen.

That was not all, ARY reported that they also the stopped work on the project Wednesday morning and abandoned heavy machinery and vehicles on various roads in the area. They also resorted to violence and attacked police in their camp.

If you thought it could not get more out of hand, well, these so-called gentlemen also they wrote a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, claiming that police officials refrained them from performing their duties and attacked them.
