Roger Moore, aka James Bond, the spy every kid grew up wishing to be is no longer with us. Sir Roger Moore departed on 23rd May, in Switzerland, at the age of 89.

Moore took over the role of Bond from Sean Connery in 1972, and made his first appearance as 007 in Live and Let Die (1973). The longest serving Bond to date, Moore portrayed the spy in six more films.

To honour his memory and to thank Mr Moore for all the childhood memories, we have ranked all of his James Bond performances.

James Bond Actor Sir Roger Moore Dies at 89

The revered James Bond Actor, Sir Roger Moore has passed away in Switzerland at the age of 89.

According to statements on his social media accounts, the star lost his life after a short but brave battle with cancer

 

The hero was the third actor to play British secret agent James Bond, in seven feature films released between 1973 and 1985.

He was also famous for his roles in hit shows The Saint and The Persuaders. What is more, he was a great humanitarian at heart and devoted a lot of his time to work for those in need. He became a UNICEF goodwill ambassador in 1991.

James was born in Stockwell, London on 14 October 1927. He studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts [RADA].

In 1966, he became a contender for the iconic role of 007 after Sean Connery declared that he would be quitting to play the character.

Fans worldwide are taking to social media to pay their respects to the great actor.

 

 

 

 

Waseem Badami Collaborates with Hemani Herbals to Launch WB by Hemani Product line

The media has been abuzz with the news recently; well-known media personality Waseem Badami has collaborated with Hemani Herbals – a brand famous for its natural and organic health and beauty products, to launch a new line ‘WB by Hemani Herbals’. A grand launch event was held on Saturday, May 20th at Pearl Continental, Karachi. The product line will be available at outlets of WB by Hemani at Lucky One Mall and Ocean Mall in Karachi, Lahore Emporium Mall in Lahore and more opening soon in other parts of Pakistan.

The star-studded event was attended by notable personalities from entertainment and sports. It started off with Qirat and a Hamd by Najam Sheraz. The host for the night was Iqrar ul Hassan.

The event also paid tribute to the late Junaid Jamshed and Amjad Sabri. Their families were also present at the event and gave their blessings to Waseem Badami. Anwar Maqsood regaled the audience with his performance and the Governor of Sindh gave a speech wishing Waseem Badami every success. Some of the celebrities who attended were Fahad Mustafa, Anwar Maqsood, Aijaz Aslam, Sanam Baloch, Kamran Akmal, Farooq Sattar and Fasial Vadwa.

The event started off with a performance by comedian Syed Shafaat Ali who has made quite a name for himself with parody videos of politicians. He entertained the audience by imitating various political figures like Imran Khan, Bilawal Bhutto and Altaf Hussain.

The owner of Hemani Herbals Mr. Mustafa Hemani then told the audience a little about his brand Hemani Herbals and his decision to join hands with Waseem Badami.

“Wasim Badami is a young, energetic, renowned TV anchor and host who is well-respected for his credibility and integrity. It’s a great joy for us to join hands with him for this project to bring the best organic and natural products to Pakistan so our people could benefit from it.’’

After a signing ceremony, Waseem Badami took to stage. He reminisced about his time spent with the late Junaid Jamshed and how important a factor he was in his decision to collaborate with Hemani Herbals. He also thanked people for giving him a lot of love, support, and appreciation.

“It is because of the trust people have placed in me throughout my career that I have mustered the confidence to go into a completely new venture by collaborating with Hemani Herbals.”

The audience was then given an exclusive peek at the upcoming TVC of WB by Hemani Herbals. The grand finale was Anwar Maqsood’s stellar performance.

The Grand Jamia Mosque in Bahria Town Lahore has been completed. The mosque’s interior is absolutely magnificent, with breathtaking views representing the fusion of traditional Islamic architecture with Pakistani culture. The carpet has been custom-made and imported from Turkey, there are over 50 luminous Persian chandeliers, creating a vibrant Islamic ambience.

The structure comprises of 4 minarets, each standing tall at 165 ft. and a Grand Dome in the center, which is surrounded by 20 smaller domes. A fascinating feature about this masterpiece is that the exterior consists of 4 million, 2.5 inches handmade Multani tiles made from special Multanimitti and hand placed by the craftsmen.

Placing these tiles alone took 4 years to complete. The total capacity of this magnificent piece of Islamic architecture is 70,000 making it the world’s 7th Largest mosque. It has an indoor capacity of 25,000, labelling it Pakistan’s Largest Mosque. There are dedicated praying areas for women, a school and an Islamic Art Gallery.

The local food businesses in Pakistan have really taken off. They are seen giving tough competition to international food chains. Not only is their food quality superb, they take special care to build an audience on their social networks. These local brands maintain a strong online presence to make sure their customers always receive good service and address any issues they might have had.

We did some research and made a list of some of these local food brands with a kickass social media presence. These include the artwork, deals, and strategies that they use to wow their fans and followers. While the brands themselves are to be lauded, the digital agencies doing most of the work for them deserve the real credit.

Burger Lab

The strategy of this page from the get go has been different from the rest. They have played on the word lab and created a setup that replicates a lab, only this one comes up with delicious food experiments. The artwork is a balanced mix of tempting food pictures along with illustrations that are funny and creative. Their social persona is consistent in their marketing; from their packaging to their interior design everything is coherent . The agency behind this brand is Viral Edge. Their Facebook page is full of such images.

Broadway Pizza

This food brand has very quickly become a favorite. The pizzas are massive in size and are served with delectable sides that you just cannot say no to. Their Facebook page doesn’t help either, they keep sharing such tantalizing pictures of their pizzas, you want to order instantly. The agency behind Broadway Pizza is also Viral Edge. It is interesting to compare between both pages and notice the subtle similarities. For instance, the packaging of Broadway as well is different from the rest. With creative doodling, you don’t mind glancing over the box for a few minutes before you get lost in the pizza itself.

Espresso

This brand has been around on social media for the longest time. From then, they have employed a strategy that has clearly worked for them a lot. Their posts are witty and minimalistic, but they manage to get the message across. Plus if you visit their outlet and check in their Facebook page, you get a free cookie. That’s reason enough. The creatives for Espresso is managed by Barely Average Design

Ibn Battuta

While this restaurant is fairly new in Karachi, we have included it in this list because of two reasons. One, their Facebook page tells a story about the travel excursions of Ibn Battuta. Each item on the menu has been carefully placed and comes with a backstory detailing its origin. That is certainly interesting to see. Two, the pictures. The food photography has been brilliantly done. This page is managed by Viral Edge.

Wingitt

The page for Wingitt keeps fans extremely entertained. The eatery is quite well known for its social activities, from stand-up comedy acts, to meet-ups and celebrity events. All of that is showcased on their Facebook. The good thing about it is the page isn’t just sharing food images, it has a well-balanced persona. The interesting thing to note here is that they manage the page in-house.

PayPal & AliPay to Finally Arrive in Pakistan?

Pakistan has once again aggressively on legislation to welcome the international payment platforms, PayPal and AliPay within the country.

Commerce Minister, Khurram Dastgir Khan, has claimed that under the supervision of State Bank of Pakistan, the government is working on the process.

While on the visit to China along with PM Nawa Sharif, Mr. Dastgir met AliBaba Group officials at the headquarters to discuss the entry of one of the world’s biggest e-commerce platforms in Pakistan.

However, this is not the first time when a minister has approached both the international platforms, AliPay and PayPal to provide online payment ease to the residents of Pakistan.

According to a report, Pakistan is ranked 4th in the world for a number of freelancers in the world, however, they are left with no option but to use either illegal or very expensive means of getting paid from foreign clients.Freelancers have been demanding the government to introduce PayPal for over a decade now, but there is still no confirmation

Pakistani Celebrities Condemn Manchester Arena Attack

Update: Death toll has increased to 22.

Unfortunately, another attack has shaken the world. This time, 19 innocent lives were taken whereas over 50 were injured in an attack carried out at Manchester Arena, Monday night on 22nd May.

60 ambulances attended the wounded where American star, Ariana Grande had just wrapped up her concert, however, it is still unclear where the attack exactly took place. As of now, it is suspected that it occurred at the foyer of the venue.

The blast sparked a stampede amongst the attendees of the concert attendees. Singing sensation Ariana Grande expressed her thoughts through Twitter.

Asides Grande, many Pakistani celebs also expressed their condolences and condemned the attack on their respective social platforms.

Karachi to Face Huge Power Cuts for Two Days!

K-Electric has stated that power distribution in Karachi will be facing some disruption in the next two days. The cause for the inconvenience to customers has been cited as the strong wind storms prevailing in the Sindh province.

According to the power supply company, electricity will remain disrupted for the next two days due to the damage to National Distribution and Dispatch Company (NTDC) Line by the windstorms.

K-Electric has stated that the company can take up to two days to fix the problem and has apologized for the inconvenience caused.

This is the message sent out to the public by K-Electric

In other areas, due to the ongoing work by The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, electricity cuts have been experienced by the public which is causing extreme inconvenience.

Gordon Ramsay rocks at not just at roasting food, but people too! Famous for bashing people’s culinary skills, Ramsay took a dig at the Baywatch babe, Priyanka Chopra and of course, it was savage to the core.

The chef was invited at Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen and was asked to comment on dishes made by celebrities! And boy, what a fun session it was!

Apparently, Priyanka Chopra’s ‘khichdi’ & ‘chicken soup’ was included in the food items!

“Sh*ttttt…I mean it looks like a dog’s dinner.”

Ever heard of the phrase, “There is no such thing as bad publicity”. Well, that remains true until an advertisement placement for your brand goes horribly wrong. Placements can fail on billboards, print media or on social media.

With a trend of programmatic advertising online, specific demographics of people are targeted. The ads are not added to any particular articles, locations or content. Therefore, advertisers are not aware of where the ad would be placed.
This can turn out to be disastrous, or just funny. There’s no going back when Turkish Airlines placed an ad on a downwards escalator that made it look like the plane was about to crash. Other examples include Trump’s ads next to pro-Isis videos, to beer ads next to stories about drunk driving.

We compiled some of the funniest or most unfortunate ad placements that have taken place over the years:

Islamabad Cricket Stadium Plans Approved, PCB Gets Green Signal!

Plans to build a cricket stadium in the capital city of Pakistan for nearly a decade. Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

It will allow the board to construct a cricket stadium in the city. According to the MoU, a land of 35 acres located in Shakarparian has been allocated to the cricket board to build the Islamabad cricket stadium, the city’s first.

Sources have reported that 30% of earnings will be entitled to CDA whereas the remaining 70% will be generated for PCB through domestic and international games at the stadium.

Currently, all local matches, competitions, and challenges are being hosted at Diamond Club and other club-owned stadiums.

Last year, CDA had revoked PCB’s lease for the construction of a cricket stadium and it also refused to issue an NOC. The reason behind this was that that the cricket board was allotted 40 acres for 33 years by CDA, however, the board had made no efforts or attempts in constructing a stadium for the next 5 years.

For now, reports suggest that the stadium will have a seating capacity of 50,000 people, a cricket academy, a five-star hotel and other related facilities.

Concerns

Unfortunately, there are a few concerns which are at hand when it comes to building the first ever Islamabad cricket stadium.

“Islamabad does not have a big population and doesn’t need a big stadium which will become a white elephant. [Large stadiums] are often economically nonviable and difficult to maintain.” -Former ICC President, Ehsan Mani

The project has received a lot of criticism over the years. One of the reasons is the location. Shakarparian is a forest area and is often referred to as the “Heart of the City” because of its ideal location.With deforestation already a major concern, not just in major cities, but all over Pakistan, is it wise to build a stadium in a natural habitat?

Not to forget that the increasing temperatures and low water levels have already created chaos across the nation. The former ICC official believes that this construction of the stadium will not be fruitful, instead, it will cause irrevocable damage to the federal capital and immensely damage the environment.

Organisations have already opposed the construction including Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) and National Council for Conservation of Wildlife (NCCW). Asides this, the proposed site for the stadium falls in the jurisdiction of Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP) and such a project is a violation of Islamabad Wildlife (Protection, Preservation, Conservation and Management) Ordinance 1979 as well as the violation of the city’s master plan.
