Mahira Khan wants to work with Bilal Abbas Khan

mahira khan mental health day

You must know you are an exceptional actor when Superstar Mahira Khan expresses the desire to work with you.

Bilal Abbas Khan has showcased great talent in Cheekh and won the audience with his remarkable performance as the bad guy, Wajih.

In a recent interview, when Mahira was asked who she’d like to work with, she replied, “I want to work with Bilal Abbas”.

“He’s very good,” she added. Well, we do agree he’s a great actor and after seeing Mahira’s chemistry with Bilal Ashraf, we’d like to see how she looks on the screen with Bilal Abbas!

Eid 2019 Box Office Report: Superstar vs Parey Hut Love, The Box Office Winner Is….!

While age is just a number and it’s the role you choose and your chemistry on screen that matters, people were quick to comment and mock Mahira’s age and the wish to work with a younger actor.

This is not the first time Mahira has been mocked over her age and the roles she plays. Recently, senior actor Firdous Jamal age shamed her and received a lot of criticism for the comment.

“She’s quite aged as well and we don’t have heroines at this age, they only play the characters of mothers”

It’s extremely sad that we are still calling out the leading female actors on their age, while male actors easily get roles opposite female leads half their age.

No matter what people say, Bilal Abbas has proved himself as an actor and climbed the ladder of success with sheer dedication and hard work. There’s a reason he’s gotten himself roles opposite some of the top actors in the industry.

He’s worked with Sajal Aly, Saba Qamar and we won’t be surprised to hear if he’s already signed a project with Mahira Khan too.

As for the age difference, we doubt that’s even an issue.

Mahira Khan’s Superstar was one of Eid-ul-Adha’s biggest releases this year, which earned big numbers at the box office.

Hamza Ali Abbasi Declared Himself as a Proud ISI Agent!

Indian journalist and news anchor Arnab Goswami is known to be anti-Pakistan and has always promoted hate speech.

Arnab and his channel Republic TV recently called Hamza Ali Abbasi an undercover ISI agent. In response, Hamza took to Twitter and declared that he is a proud ISI agent and so are more than 200 million Pakistanis.

“So that over actor and war mongerer for ratings guy Arnab/his channel declared me an undercover ISI agent! Let me clarify: I am not an “undercover” ISI agent; I am very openly/proudly an ISI agent, just like more than 200 million Pakistanis are proud ISI agents! #15thAugustBlackDay,” he tweeted.

Hamza, who is very open about his political views, took this opportunity to add that he’s very confident that he will see a free Kashmir really soon.

“I always thought maybe I will not see a free Kashmir in my lifetime but seeing one blunder after another of Modi’s fascist regime and the delusional propaganda their fascist media outlets are spreading, I am now very confident that Insha Allah I will see a free Kashmir very soon,” he added further.

This is not the first time Arnab has spread hate between the two countries. “Fueling the hate between India and Pakistan is criminal and that’s what him and his channel is doing,” actor/ singer Farhan Saeed had also tweeted earlier.

Pakistan observed a ‘Black Day’ on Thursday to coincide with India’s Independence Day celebrations.

The decision was taken at the National Security Committee meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan, last week in the wake of the Indian move to revoke Article 370.

Pakistanis Have Taken the Love for Chai to a Whole New Level by Celebrating Their NationaliTea

Pakistan is home to 204,951,508 people.

Over 60 beautiful languages are spoken within this mesmerizing country inhabited by 19 ethnicities under 1 flag.

No matter where you go or who you meet, be it as south as Karachi or north to Kashmir, there is one common factor between all of these amazing people – their love for tea!

Maybe We Should be Called PakisTEAnis!

We Pakistanis are known around the globe for our hospiTEAlity! The first item you are offered when you visit someone’s home is chai. Even when you are waiting for your turn at an office, you are asked whether you’d like a cup of tea.

When it pours, Pakistanis want tea, when it’s hot outside still we crave for a cup of warmth. In fact, those who are enthusiastic about weight reduction and diet have also incorporated green tea in their diet.

We are so head over heels for tea that we even want the desi beverage while abroad on vacations!

Pakistan- The Land of the Many Types of Tea!

What’s even more interesting is that everyone has their own favorite cup of tea. Some love tea without milk or sugar, while others prefer it cooked as ‘doodh-patti’. Many love the strong hit of ‘karak chai’ while there are those who crave chocolate tea.

Many may dislike elaichi in Biryani, but love the addition of it to our cardamom chai! Not to forget the ‘tarka’ masala tea brings, or the joy of drinking garam garam kaawa in the monsoon season.

The pink delight of Kashmiri chai is another favorite Pakistanis love to sip during festivals across town. To top it off, there’s even a thandi-thandi iced-tea for those who cannot stay away from the drink.

Every other day, a new type of tea is being made and served all across the country, but, the real reason why Pakistanis enjoy their cup is that their tea has been made with a blend which is pure, rich in taste and quality and comes from the very well reputed name Tapal.

Tapal – The Leading Brand

Tapal has various blends under its umbrella. Tapal’s Tezdum is for those who’d like a strong hit, Tapal Mezban for the people residing in Rural Sindh and preferring a premium Dust blend and the Green Tea line for the young energetic and health-conscious lot. Tapal’s Family Mixture and Tapal Danedar are all-time favorites that complete every family’s tea-time.

Keeping our tea culture in mind, Tapal has celebrated the achievements of brilliant Pakistanis over the span of 70 years of Independence. Now, the brand is back to celebrate independence by reminding Pakistanis about ‘#HamariNationaliTea’.

No matter where we are, be it the Pak-China border, deep-sea Gawadar, Astola Island, Murre or Nathiagali, Tapal will always remind us who with are with a sip of home every time we reach for our favorite drink!

Tapal’s Liveathon to Celebrate #HamariNationaliTea!

This independence, Tapal has decided to celebrate a united Pakistan and #HamariNationaliTea with a creative, out-of-the-box idea for a Liveathon.

This year we will see people across Pakistan paint the town ‘tea’ by going to their cities’ most famous landmarks and enjoying a hot cup of tea – a bond we all share!

What a great idea!

Its time to show how proud you are of your #HamariNationaliTea with Tapal!

PCB Extends Invitation to 20 Cricketers for Pre-Season Camp

Cricket camp 2019

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has extended a hand to 20 cricketers for a pre-season camp. These cricketers include the 14 centrally contracted men and 6 additional men.

The camp will be held at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore on August 19. The first 2 days will go into fitness testing and will go on for 17 days until 7th September.

Former Pakistan Cricket Team skipper Misbah-ul-Haq will join in on the action as support for the NCA coaching staff.

During the camp, the players will be put through a number of fielding drills and net sessions, as well as fitness and other activities revolving around cricket.

On the other hand, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Abbas, Babar Azam, Imad Wasim, and Fakhar Zaman, have been exempted from the camp so that they can continue their contracts.

The 20-man camp will consist of:

  1. Abid Ali
  2. Asad Shafiq
  3. Azhar Ali
  4. Haris Sohail
  5. Hasan Ali
  6. Imam-ul-Haq
  7. Mohammad Rizwan
  8. Sarfaraz Ahmed
  9. Shadab Khan
  10. Shaheen Shah Afridi
  11. Shan Masood

  18. Mir Hamza
  19. Rahat Ali
  20. Zafar Gohar

Non-participating centrally contracted players: Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Abbas, and Mohammad Amir.

This conditioning camp is of great significance. The players will undergo strenuous training sessions to prepare for a demanding season, which will see Pakistan spend 30 of their 42 cricket-playing days in Test cricket.

Misbah ul Haq, who has been Pakistan’s most successful captain, understands the arduous demands of the format in this day and age. With the advent of the World Test Championship, the PCB wants Pakistan to turn up with their best red ball game when they face Sri Lanka in the two-match Test series at home.

Ahead of the Sri Lanka series, these players will be a part of the initial rounds of what will be a highly competitive Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. So, this camp will further benefit them in gearing up for an exciting cricketing season.

As five players are already playing active cricket in England and Wales, we have given exemptions to them but they have been advised to return to Pakistan in time to be available for the first round matches of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. -Zakir Khan, Director International Cricket

The Corporate PTCL

With Independence Day and Eid falling in the same week, Pakistanis have a lot to celebrate.

Although Independence Day has an emotional significance for Pakistanis, they wait for it just like Eid, celebrating it every year on the 14th of August with great energy and enthusiasm. Our country’s brands celebrate the occasion by coming up with creative campaigns to win the hearts of Pakistanis across the nation and inspire unity amongst them.

We are seeing brands come up with exclusive offers and discounts for Independence Day. We also see companies like PTCL who always reinforce the message of patriotism and harmony through its creative campaigns.

For last year’s Independence Day, the organisation launched the ‘P for Pakistan’ campaign, which showed a true depiction of everyday life of Pakistanis. The combination of scenic shots and traditional music in the ad touched hearts and minds across the nation.

This year, PTCL has taken a different angle in showing its connection with Pakistan. Unlike last year, where the focus was on the spirit of unity, this time around PTCL has aesthetically presented its corporate brand by showing all the touchpoints that are part of our daily lives.

The ad’s theme depicts how PTCL is the backbone to all communication activities that are part of our daily routine – be it using banks/ATMs, travelling, any kind of emergency or using simple internet at your office or home.

The ad has been viewed by audience and customers alike over 3.4 million times online within just 48 hours.

With motivational music in the background, the ad starts with scenes that show PTCL towers in the beautiful northern areas of Pakistan. The towers are surrounded by mountains to show that PTCL is available everywhere in Pakistan and connects the nation from Khyber to Karachi and Gilgit to Gwadar.

Throughout the ad, we see familiar actions that we perform in our day-to-day life – getting cash out of an ATM, travelling on a plane or train and using social media etc.

All these everyday actions depict that PTCL is more than just a landline and internet provider – it is where PTCL’s reach and network strength is highlighted and it is realized that PTCL is the backbone of all connectivity in the country, whether it is on a retail level or corporate.

The ad also displays a shot of underwater submarine cables.

There are a total of six underwater submarine cable consortiums in Pakistan and PTCL is a part of four of them. Other telecom operators as well as internet service providers in the country depend on PTCL for their connectivity as majority of data coming in and going out of Pakistan is on PTCL’s network.

PTCL has focused on promoting its corporate brand and identity this year through a thematic concept to stand out and remind everyone about its presence and connectivity throughout the country.

The narration for the ad is entirely in Urdu, which portrays that PTCL always stays true to its Pakistani roots and wants to reach every single person in the country through our national language. As a national brand, its significance is reiterated through this TV ad as it supports communication needs of the country.

Not merely a landline provider, this PTCL ad deserves praise and recognition due to its successful amalgamation of aesthetic shots of everyday tasks with its corporate aspect. For the first time, PTCL has subtly shown its corporate identity with an emotional appeal, as the commercial ends with the tagline – Isi liay PTCL bana un sab ka itabar, jin pay hay apko itabar.

Aarish or Auj, Who are you Going to Vote for?

Auj or Aarish

With only two mega contenders, Aarish and Auj fighting for the number one position, the Pepsi battle gets tougher and more exciting to say the least.

After an intense contest, the nation will now be witnessing who shall be crowned the Pepsi Battle of the Bands season four winner. And with only one last chance given to perform and win the audience, the two bands had no other choice but to bring their A-game on.

The jury’s job is done and now the fate of the bands depends entirely on the fans!

The episode consisted of two rounds. In the first one, the bands delivered their originals while in the second round, they presented covers.

Round 1

Aarish took the risk and performed first saving their most favorite original titled ‘Umeed’. While the judges loved it, the band could now only hope that the audience would like it too.

The jury felt connected with the heartfelt mellow track and said they couldn’t wait to listen to their complete album in the future.

Auj’s response was equally magnificent, however, before the performance, it was revealed that one the band member’s father, who passed away from cancer three years ago had urged the band to try out for Pepsi Battle of the Bands.

While the band had been performing since 2009, they only thought themselves fit for the competition this year.

And it seems that good things surely come to those who wait and work hard. Their decade-long struggle and effort paid off as their performance on their most favorite original ‘Raat’ mesmerized the judges.

Meesha Shafi gave them a standing ovation and special praise went to the vocalist Abdul Rehman, who also penned the lyrics. Fawad Khan called him a ‘diamond in the rough’, while Bilal Maqsood thought the public was seeing Auj in their ‘full glory’ and requested the audience to vote for them.

The First Surprise

Before the next round, we experienced a pleasant surprise in the form of Pepsi Battle of the Bands season three finalist Xarb. The band performed their new original ‘Siyaah’ in their true, signature gripping, haunting style.

Round 2

In the second round was a true challenge since the bands had to cover songs by the legendary Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

Aarish chose Khan Sahab’s Halka Halka Suroor and gave it their own personal touch by incorporating spoken words. They also fused it with electronic dance music (EDM) to add different layers to the song.

The highlight was the special addition of DJ Faisal Baig, who is a pioneer of electronic sounds in the Pakistani music industry.

Auj responded with Khan Sahab’s iconic Sanware combined with a touch of some unique blend of hard rock riffs and electronic elements by Baig.

Praising the groovy performance, the judges felt they should release an extended version of the song.

The bands then paid respect to the remarkable jury and talked about how their criticism and judgment has helped them evolve along the journey.

The Second Surprise

The episode finally came to an end with another huge surprise in the form of Jal’s Goher Mumtaz performing on the Pepsi stage for the very first time. He performed a beautiful, melodic and holistic rendition of the band’s 2003 hit Dil Harey to tremendous affection from the live crowd.

Aarish vs Auj – Vote Now!

auj or aarish

India Slaps Ban on Mika Singh After His Performance in Pakistan!

The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has forbidden singer Mika Singh from the Indian film industry after his performance at an event in Karachi, Pakistan.

The singer was banned and boycotted two days after the video of him performing live at the wedding festivities of former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf’s close relative in Karachi went viral.

”AICWA takes a stand of boycotting all his association with movie production houses, music companies and online music content providers,” AICWA President Suresh Shyamlal Gupta stated in a statement.

Armeena Khan Urges UNICEF to Remove Priyanka Chorpa as Ambassador

The film body put an absolute ban on the singer and boycotted him from all the movies and music contracts with the entertainment companies.

“AICWA will make sure that no one in India works with Mika Singh and if anyone does, they will face legal consequences in the court of law. When the tension between the countries is at the peak, Mika Singh puts money above the nation’s pride,” the film association said.

A 30-second video clip tweeted by a Pakistani journalist, Naila Inayat, featured Mika performing at the event, despite India severing all artistic and social ties with Pakistan in the aftermath of the removal of Article 370.

According to Gulf News, Mika performed with a 14-member troupe at the pre-wedding ceremony of a girl who’s father, Adnan Asad, is reportedly a cousin of former Pakistan President, General Pervez Musharraf. Mika and his crew have been given visas for 30 days to perform in three cities – Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad.

FWICE issued a statement in which they stated they are “deeply pained and anguished by the performance of singer, Mika Singh alias Amrik Singh at the wedding of former President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf’s cousin’s daughter in Karachi, followed by height of tension and broken relations between India and Pakistan, which is shocking, shameful and shattering”.

Superstar Full Movie Review: A Tale of True Love & Wishful Dreams

Superstar Full Movie Review

There are films that inspire and films that lead, and then there is Superstar that does both. Mahira Khan’s latest is probably her best work so far, even better than Raees.

Not only does she manage to strike chemistry with a fellow actor who isn’t named Fawad Khan but also raise the bar at a time when people were criticizing her for ‘personal’ reasons.

She neither looks old in the movie (as per Firdous Jamal’s assessment) nor looks wooden (as per super over actor Nadia Khan’s unwanted comment), letting her performance do the talking.

Add Bilal Ashraf and Nadeem Baig into the frame and you get a flick that will not only dominate the box office in Pakistan but also internationally, such as the following of these actors.

Synopsis

Its love at first sight for Superstar Sameer Khan (Bilal Ashraf) who falls in love with upcoming actress Noor (Mahira Khan). However, things take a bad turn when he decides to go for greener pastures and leaves his love, friends, and family behind.

How he ends up in Agha Jaan’s (Nadeem Baig) theatre and does his efforts to get back Noor bear any fruit, watch Superstar and find out the answers.

Analysis

Fans of Mahira Khan would love the film because it revolves around her; in fact, when Azaan Sami Khan was writing the script he had her in mind all along. Bilal Ashraf does an amazing job as the leading man who can act, dance and romance at the same time.

His fans were expecting him to do a good job but he surprises them all with a superlative performance. Then there are veterans Nadeem Baig, Jawed Sheikh and Marina Khan who make the audience laugh and cry; in fact, they keep the narrative flowing without looking out of place.

The film also introduces Ehteshamuddin to the world of cinema even though he had been making short films for a long time.

The arrival of Mustafa Afridi as a writer is a breath of fresh air because if anyone can write powerful dialogues, Mustafa Afridi is his name. However, it is the young Azaan Sami Khan who excels as the story & screenplay writer, music director and background scorer of the film.

He uses all his training both at home and under his father Adnan Sami Khan to come up with one of the best soundtracks of recent times. Kudos to the producers for sticking to his version and coming up with a film that steers Pakistan’s film industry into the right direction.

The Verdict

Score: 4/5

Superstar is one of the few Pakistani flicks that the whole family can enjoy; there is nothing cheap or vulgar, be it in the songs, dialogues or even in the story. It’s a family entertainer that entertains, and at a time when Pakistani cinema needs good content, it comes out as the best.

This might be Momina Duraid’s third film after Bin Roye and Parwaaz Hai Junoon but it is the most complete, the most well-directed and above all, the most well-shot film from M & D Films. In fact, no review would be complete without the mention of Khizar Idrees the cinematographer who has done a commendable job.

Watch it for the chemistry of Mahira Khan and Bilal Ashraf, for Nadeem Baig’s atypical performance, for Jawed Sheikh’s different take on family and Ali Kazmi’s bromance with Bilal Ashraf. You will not regret it!

World Tourism Forum 2020 will be held in Pakistan

Tourism is seen as a great tool for development as it stimulates economic activities in a country. For the very reason, the government of Pakistan has been taking great initiatives to revive and promote tourism in the nation.

‘The government was making all-out efforts for promotion of tourism in the country and new tourist resorts would be developed in coastal areas of Balochistan, said Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday talking to a delegation of World Tourism Forum, led by President of the Forum’s Executive Board Bulut Bagci in Islamabad.

The premier further said there was great potential in different areas of tourism in the country, which was being exploited.

He explained to the visitors that eight new tourism resorts would be developed in eight coastal areas in Balochistan. He stressed that natural beauty, social values and environmental protection should be ensured for the promotion of tourism.

Imran Khan also said that the previous governments failed to pay attention to tourism.

The World Tourism Forum 2020 will be held in Pakistan and over 1,000 foreigners would be attending the five-day proceedings of the event.

ACF Animal Rescue Claims Edhi is NOT Giving Animals a Good Home!

edhi animal shelter

ACF (Ayesha Chundrigar Foundation) is a non-profit organization in Karachi rescuing and rehabilitating stray injured animals and working with other marginalized communities that society normally ignores.

Recently, after news regarding Edhi’s new drive to catch stray dogs went viral, ACF claimed that ‘this is just a PR stunt to justify murder’.

Speaking to Brandsynario, an Edhi representative had said that these stray dogs causing threat will be taken to the animal shelter where they shall be provided with the required aid. However, ACF does not believe that it’s true.

“The Edhi shelter is like a hell-hole/graveyard. We know because we have been incessantly trying to urge them to help us fix it. Or shut it down. We are not the only ones. Any animal lover who is aware of the Edhi shelter can support this statement. ACF started from that shelter and left due to the inhumane way the animals and workers are treated,” the organisation wrote.

They further claimed: “Either the dogs will starve to death there behind a closed gate (we know these dogs are not being taken there) or these dogs are being killed (poisoned or shot) in a secret location due to the backlash KMC and CBC and these inhumane agencies are receiving. Or these dogs are being sold for their meat.”

The organisation wrote a long post defending and explaining their case.

While many animal lovers supported ACF, others refuse to listen to anything against the Edhi foundation. The Founder, Director, CEO at ACF Animal Rescue, Ayesha Chundrigar was bashed and labelled ‘burger’

“Who knew being a decent, moral human being standing up for what is right is considered ‘burger’ or new age?” she questioned in response.

What are your thoughts regarding the issue? Have you visited the Edhi animal shelter?

If you have any knowledge regarding the matter, do comment and let us know.

HABIBMETRO’s ‘Badlo Bartao’ Independence Campaign Urges us to be Better Pakistanis All-Year Round

habib metro badlo bartao

With Independence Day approaching, there are a lot of socially relevant messages in the form of commercials and promotional campaigns that have been released.

While all aim to evoke patriotism in us, some manage to stand out and create a much greater impact. Synergy Dentsu’s latest campaign for HABIBMETRO is one such example.

The message is simple and easily understood by all, however, not many seem to implement it.

A country is only as good or as bad as the people residing in it since the state of a country reflects the affairs of its citizens.

Despite knowing that, it’s sad to see that Pakistanis have a history of dumping responsibilities and pointing fingers when faced with civic issues.

Synergy Dentsu’s latest campaign for Habib Metro presents the concept of ‘Badlo Bartao’ which means that we as individuals have a responsibility too. Instead of blaming everything on the system, we must change our mindset and take charge.

We’re free to take actions for the betterment of the country and there’s absolutely no one who is stopping us. The truth is that we’ve gotten used to whine about things that we have the power to change and that is a problem.

To promote the idea, a fresh generation was chosen from different educational and rehabilitation institutions to be cast in the film. As the country turns a year older, their chants chime as the sound of hope.

We are a free nation; free to do everything.

Social Media Reactions

Here are a few social media reactions:

We’re Pakistanis all year round!

Badlainge ham tou badlega Pakistan, tou ao #BadloBartao”

The concept to include differently-abled has become an instant winner!

Every action matters!

Isn’t it a brilliant campaign? Our freedom and patriotism are not limited to one day. We are free 365 days a year to initiate the change we wish to see in Pakistan.

What is more interesting is that every child in the video comes from a special organization that has helped build a united Pakistan. Moreover, HABIBMETRO is a strong supporter of the organizations giving a helping hand to those who deserve it.
