World’s First Space Hotel to Open by 2025, Will Accommodate 400 People!

The Express Foundation has shared a design concept for the world’s first space hotel.

The design has been made in a particular way so that the hotel will be able to accommodate 400 guests at a time.

Furthermore, the design includes a low gravity basketball court along with the trampolining and rock climbing.

Called the ‘Von Braun Rotating Space Station’, the project has been in the pipeline for a while now. However, the completion of the project is expected to be completed by 2025.

While giving an interview to Deezen, the architect behind the Von Braun Rotating Space Station, Tim Alatorre has said that the project will be more luxurious than a cruise ship.

There will also be many of the things you see on cruise ships: restaurants, bars, musical concerts, movie screenings, and educational seminars. -Alatorre Said.

Furthermore, the station will provide all facilities guests can expect to receive at normal hotels on Earth. Including, water to drink and shower and also a kitchen to make food. The drinkable water will be from Earth and the non-potable water for shower and toilet will be recycled on the station.

The company has planned on accommodating up to 100 guests every week. The aim is to expand to accommodate 500 guests by 2030.

Meesha Shafi is Applauding this Artist’s Work for All the Right Reasons!

Meesha Shafi

Meesha Shafi has an eye for talent, after all, she is a successful artist herself.

Shafi made her film debut with a supporting role in the 2013 Mira Nair’s film The Reluctant Fundamentalist.

She recently reshared a tweet on her Twitter profile with the caption ‘these are adorable’.

Meesha had retweeted a tweet of Pakistani artist Umair Najeeb Khan who has promised to do 20 giveaways!

Umair is a 25-year old artist from Karachi who designs, illustrates and animates all kinds of artwork.

His work has also been praised by filmmaker, video producer, musician, and animator Zeeshan Parwez.

He has recently done an animated music video called Jhoomta Raha which is first of its kind in Pakistan for a local musician Assad Hasanain and has illustrated artwork for children’s books.

Some of Umair’s well-known and notable works include designs for commercial feature films Chupan Chupai, Pinky Memsaab, Kataksha, and Ready Steady NO!

Umair wishes to bring change in how we brand and design in Pakistan with fresh content.

His latest project on beverage packaging comes with the same aim, a combination of cultural art, diversity, and a fresh approach for brands.

Umair wishes to represent and to celebrate all that Pakistan and its diverse set of people have to offer through his artwork. He wants to design for Pakistan and not just for Pakistanis in particular.

He has done work for corporate and food brands as well.

Umair is one of the many artists who have shown how much talent exists in Pakistan. Artists like him want to bring a new wave of ideas and concepts to the world of advertising.

We hope that they find the platform they need to surplus and become a part of the advertising universe.

Pakistani engineers Mohammad Awais and Anas Nazir have developed a robotic arm which can be controlled fully by the brain.

For some time now, engineers, computer scientists, biomedical engineers and many more have been working on introducing affordable prosthetic limbs for individuals to afford without having to burn a hole in their pockets.

The two boys who had made this arm as a part of their university project have told Dawn News:

Bioniks was aimed at making a name for ourselves in the world of bio-robotics. Now we are working on bionic-based lower limbs and exoskeletons.”

They further shared:

“We place sensors at locations in the body where the brain sends electric currents or signals to fingers, commanding them to move.”

The Historic Metropole Hotel of Karachi to Perish Soon – Here’s Why!

The global warming situation is too real and too scary, and one of the ways to conquer it is to plant more and more trees.

Building more parks in the city is a good way of growing more trees; Urban Forests have been working on a similar idea.

In a ‘high-level’ meeting held two days ago at CM House, Karachi, it was instructed by CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah that a public park will be built on the land of Metropole Hotel.

Located at the main Metropole Road near Sharah e Faisal and Saddar, it is one of Karachi’s biggest most popular hotels.

Taking note of the traffic situation in the said area, CM also mentioned that he has plans of acquiring a portion of the land at the left turning of the road from Metropole towards Clifton to widen it. This way the flow of traffic can get smoother.

“No commercial or high-rise buildings [should] be constructed at the site of Hotel Metropole as it would further aggravate the traffic congestion,”

Built in the late 1950s in the very hub of Karachi, Metropole Hotel has played a huge role in Karachi’s socio-political scene. From a gathering place for journalists and members of the civil society, to a regular staying place for foreign visitors, the hotel has been and seen all kinds of people and days.

This idea of constructing a part on the plot of Metropole is not new, in case you’re wondering. In June last year, the provincial government was advised by a two-member bench of the Supreme Court to purchase the land of Hotel Metropole and construct a park.

Do you think this is a good idea?

#DefenceAndMartyrsDay 2019: A Son’s Tribute to His Father

airforce hero

More often than not, when one thinks of the armed forces, one conjures up images of men in uniforms, relentless structure and rigid discipline, machine-like automation training geared singularly towards battle, violence and bloodshed for an ideology far greater than themselves and the people around them. This higher cause is of course, the defense of our country.

The Pakistan Air Force is one of those institutions. And as I have learned recently, there is certainly another side to them.

My father, Flt. Lt. Syed Safi Mustafa was a PAF fighter. He is a shaheed awarded the Sitar-e-Jura’t for his sacrifice to the nation in the 1971 war. I was 2 months old at the time and my mother a mere 20-year-old widow. Without a body delivered to us for closure, she took strength from the intense, sudden, tragic loss and the confusion of unanswered questions; she took to her responsibility of raising me single handedly.

A staunch believer in education being the most powerful resource one could ever need, my father I am told, would have wanted the best education for me. And so it was provided along with the best of everything life had to offer that she could afford from a simple but full-time day job. A job that took time away from her to spend with me but the time that was then filled by my grandmother and aunt.

The only son of a highly decorated war hero, raised by 3 mothers as a civilian, I was a very special child.

In 1978, when I was 7, I flew to Islamabad to personally receive my father’s gallantry award on a cold winter’s morning in my white sherwani, accompanied by my mother, it did not make much sense to me.

PAF_10

Last week, 44 years later I was back in Islamabad at the AHQ, on invitation of the present PAF Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman to attend the 50-year celebration of our victory in the 1965 war.

It was an event created to bring the families together from the 1965 and 1971 wars to commemorate and share the stories of what these men were like as fathers, husbands, sons, brothers and friends when not in their uniform protecting the values of this young nation.

These men were some of the best soldiers in the world. They were great humans too, I learnt. My father was not unique in that sense.

He was a member of an elite group of outstanding individuals who silently mentored others around them at the time on the ground, in the air, and have continued to impact lives of PAF officers till today. That legacy was generously shared with all the families by the PAF through the Golden Jubilee event.

An auditorium filled with moist eyes and emotional energy beyond structure and protocol.

PAF_2
With my mother, Shabina Mustafa attending the 50 years celebration of our victory in the 1965 war.

PAF_4

From the moment my personalized invitation arrived, the first request in 44 years to attend any PAF event, to the follow-up phone calls, the organization of transportation logistics “air movement’’ as they are called, to the escorted, almost hand-held care from my doorstep to Islamabad everything was taken care of.

We were welcomed into PAF officer’s home like an extended family for the duration of our stay, looked after at every step as if we were the heroes ourselves. We were the survivors but the protocol of respect that we were provided with, I certainly was not used to.

After the initial excitement of the VIP service, as the hours passed I realized it was all being done as a tribute, to share with us and express their respect and gratitude, for the sacrifice our families had made through the shuhada.

I was suddenly very aware of a sensitive, warm, caring, human side of the armed forces. Not once did the PAF style of perfectly timed, elegantly rolled out protocol ever fall short of any disciplined expectation but the beauty was in the simultaneous exposure of an equally deep humanity.

This was not a side I was expecting to be met with and engage with on the trip. There was also a sense of an apology for not having kept the extended families of the shuhada together over the last few decades. I met people, men mostly, from different generations who either knew my father from his early days at the Sargodha base, from the academy in the US, as a friend, a peer, a colleague, a fellow fighter pilot ready to lay his life on the line for the nation or had just heard of him, seen his photos at the Faisal base museum or in other bases across the country.

As each one of them told me about my father there was not a dry eye – powerful, profound, difficult moments for me to navigate through. Without a doubt, My father is a legend for many, not just me – A man to look up to as I have done all my life.

PAF
My father, Flt. Lt. Syed Safi Mustafa

I cannot thank the present PAF leadership enough for this magical homecoming of sorts. Effortlessly they connected a poignant past, in the chaotic present with the promise of a great future, together. This event of being brought back into the fold has been a touching, moving, heart-warming and most of all very humbling experience for me – one that I am still absorbing.

Pakistan needs to honor its armed forces a lot more than it does. Needless to say, I have been inspired to give back to the PAF, an institution to be proud of, in some small way and continue to keep my father’s memory alive.

PTA Blocks Over 9,00,000 Websites for Hosting Pornographic Content!

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority

September 6th, 2019:

PTA is at it again! More than 900,000 websites have now been blocked by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority for hosting anti-state, anti-judiciary, and blasphemous, and pornographic content.

Here’s what the official figures say:

  • over 11,000 web pages contained anti-state contents
  • more than 50,000 websites hosted anti-judiciary
  • about 50,000 web-pages were found peddling blasphemous content
  • the number of pornographic sites blocked is well over 830,000

June 5, 2018: Over the past year, 46,200 websites were under scrutiny after which 6,149 sites have been banned by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

The recommendation to block these websites were given by the Inter-faith Harmony’s Web Evaluation Cell (WEC) and Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Bahria College Controversy: All You Need to Know

The recommendation to block these websites were given by the Inter-faith Harmony’s Web Evaluation Cell (WEC) and Ministry of Religious Affair.

After evaluating a total of 46,200 websites, 15,481 domains were sent to the PTA for further evaluation out of which, PTA blocked 6149 websites.

An awareness program had been launched previously by the PTA and Higher Education Commission (HEC) to filter inappropriate content at all the educational institutions. According to Attorney General (AAG) Nayyar Rizvi, a total of 9,846 proxies have been installed at educational institutes already.

A few months back, PTA had submitted a report in the Supreme Court which stated that a total of 0.4 million websites containing obscene content have been blocked in Pakistan.

The report further added that blocking content online in real time is impossible to vet. However the use of proxies can cut down such content by a considerable margin.

The Web Evaluation Cell (WEC) has been established for the purpose of monitoring and reporting any content that promotes objectionable material or sectarianism.

Fans Slam Twitter User for Comparing Mahira Khan with a Mentally Challenged Child!

There is no doubt about the fact that Mahira Khan rules most of the hearts in Pakistan, be it her naturally beautiful smile, her soothing voice, or her commendable acting skills.

However, there will always be haters and haters will always hate.

Last time, senior Pakistani actor Firdous Jamal came under some serious spotlight for his demeaning comments on Mahira on a morning show hosted by Faysal Qureshi.

#supportfirdousjamal Takes Over Social Media After Hum TV Head Bans Veteran Actor

While there were people who agreed with Jamal Sahab, many celebrities and fans showed great support towards Mahira Khan. However, the wrath of this Superstar’s  fans is pointing towards a Twitter user this time.

Read this tweet and you’ll know why:

In a developing society where mental health awareness is increasing slowly and gradually, you can’t really get away with such hideous comparisons.

Take a look at how people stood up for Mahira Khan and reprimanded the original poster for making such a ridiculous, insensitive analogy:

Many were also of the opinion that there is absolutely nothing wrong with getting excited over the beauty of nature.

Right Behind You – A Beautiful Way to Show Customers You Care

Have you noticed how we, as consumers, are beginning to develop a strong hate emotion towards advertisements?

Every time we’re watching a video on YouTube, playing a game on a downloaded application reading an interesting article, an add pops up.

In. Our. Face.

And we hate it. We frantically look for the little cross that will close the ad, even if momentarily, so we can continue doing what we love, uninterrupted.

However, have you ever thought why we have come to hate ads so much? We might not hate the product the ad is for, but we don’t want to see the ad.

Well, the truth is, most advertisements are brand focused. They are built to tell you the brand’s story. Instead of making you see them with your own eyes, they keep trying to show you what they are all about.

And truly speaking, ain’t nobody got time for that.

So when we see an ad that shows us how we are cared for and valued, it becomes hard to ignore it. Take a look at this “Right Behind You” ad by American Express and see for yourself:

Not only are brands trying to ensure that their marketing and advertising matches perfectly with what they offer, but they are also trying their best to stay ahead of the competition. Because there is A LOT of competition, and while everyone may have the same thing to offer, not everyone can offer it the same way.

Instead of just unforgettable visuals being the foundation of their marketing/advertising campaigns, brands are now focusing on communicating entire experiences to customers. In fact, they are even attempting to convert non-customers into customers, and a brand that can successfully manage to do THAT truly deserves applause.

This American Express ad does not say how you must use American Express for your payments. But taking an extremely customer-centric approach based on emotional insight, it shows you that it will support you in whatever you choose to do with your life.

Be it your career, your wedding, having a baby, going to dance class, be it anything. The ad is warm and gives the viewer a human experience, instead of just educating them on what American Express is all about.

Do You Hate Being on a Plane? This Ad Might Just Change That!

“The “Just Alright Doesn’t Fly Here” campaign contrasts the Wright Brothers—credited with inventing the first successful airplane—to the Alright Brothers, two less-than-ambitious burnouts who may be to blame for air travel’s pitiable standards.”

We live in a world where brands are extremely busy redefining themselves.

In a digital era like this, they understand too well that they cannot afford to make the mistakes they could afford to make earlier; the smallest thing can become the biggest and can churn a lot of negative word of mouth if it reaches social media.

So not only are brands trying to ensure that their marketing and advertising matches perfectly with what they offer, but they are also trying their best to start ahead of the competition.

Jet Blue, for example, explain this perfectly in their latest campaign, Just  “Just Alright Doesn’t Fly Here”.

Take a look:

This campaign by Jet Blue is sure to compel you to give the airline a try. It might even convince someone who hates traveling to get on a plane.

Not only does the ad show what true hospitality looks like, but the witty wordplay makes it just excellent!

Would you get on a Jet Blue airplane? Let us know in the comments!

Forever 21 All Set to Close Due to Bankruptcy!

FOREVER 21

Forever 21 is preparing for a potential bankruptcy, reported Bloomberg on Wednesday, quoting people with information of the plans.

According to the report, the company has been in talks for additional financing and working with a team of advisers to help it restructure its debt, but negotiations with possible lenders have so far stalled, the people said.

The focus has therefore shifted toward securing a potential debtor-in-possession loan to take the company into Chapter 11, they said, even as some window remains to strike a last-minute deal that keeps it out of court.

To make things worse for the company, Popstar Ariana Grande has filed a lawsuit against fast-fashion retailer brand and Riley Rose for unapproved use of her “name, image, likeness and music” to promote their brands and extract sales.

According to the lawsuit, filed in US District Court in California, Forever 21 asked Grande to partner with the brand in late 2018 but she refused.

Her lawyers claim that Forever 21 consequently plagiarised imagery from the video for Grande’s single 7 Rings, released in January, for an advertising campaign.

If Money Heist was Made in Pakistan, Here’s Who We Would Love to Cast!

One post on Forever 21’s Instagram account featured a Grande lookalike wearing a high ponytail and hair accessories including pink puffballs and sparkly tassels. The look is exactly like the singer’s in the 7 Rings video.

The caption below the image quotes a lyric from the song: “Gee thanks, just bought it!”

Other promotional content also resembled the singer. The lawsuit declared the resemblances to be “uncanny”, claiming: “Forever 21’s intent was clear: to suggest to the viewing public that Ms. Grande endorsed Forever 21, its products and was affiliated with Forever 21.”

It continued that one Instagram post by Grande is worth “well into the six figures”.

Grande’s lawsuit against the company is asking at least $10 million in damages for copyright and trademark infringement, false endorsement and violating her right of publicity.

The company responded to the suit in an email to CNN, which said, “Forever 21 does not comment on pending litigation as per company policy. That said, while we dispute the allegations, we are huge supporters of Ariana Grande and have worked with her licensing company over the past two years. We are hopeful that we will find a mutually agreeable resolution and can continue to work together in the future.”

However, the brand might not be able to afford to employ the famous superstar or to deal with her lawsuit.

Doritos Isn’t Calling Itself Doritos Anymore: Here’s Why!

Sindh Police Appoints First Hindu-Woman as ASI

Pushpa Kumari ASI

Pakistan has been in the headline lately for speaking out against human rights violation, breaking records and even stereotypes.

Sindh Police has played an important part in breaking stereotypes by appointing a woman from the Hindu community as ASI.

Pushpa Kumari, 29-year old who hails from the Kohli community never thought that she would be appointed as ASI. Pushpa has in fact graduated in ‘critical care’ from Dow University of Health Sciences in 2014.

She was working as an intensive care unit (ICU) technologist at the Benazir Bhutto Accident and Emergency Trauma Centre last year.

However, Kumari decided that she now wants to walk down a different path.

There are many Hindu girls in the medical profession. I wanted to do something different and that is why I decided to appear in the public service commission exam for police. -Kumari told Express Tribune

Human rights activist, Kapil Dev, had pointed out that Pushpa has now become the first woman from the Hindu community to become a police ASI.

I think this might be true. There may be a few women from the Hindu community working as police constables. But I think I am to only one to pass the public service commission exam for ASI.

My plan now is to obtain a masters degree in criminology. I also intend to appear in other exams, particularly if the Sindh government announces a post for the deputy superintendent of police.

With my choice to join the police, other girls and women will decide to be daring in their career choices and maybe join the police, army, air force or navy. –She added

Daina Kumar and Suman Pawan Bodani both also belonging to the Hindu community in Pakistan have also made a name for themselves. They are now serving as civil judges and we could not have been more proud of them.
