Here’s How Brands Can Create Positive Social Impact

Here's How Brands Can Create A Positive Social Impact

Brands today have to create a positive social impact. They must be more than what they sell to survive in the 21st century. They must be names that are applauded for how they sell it and the way they share their resources.

What Is Meant by ‘Positive Social Impact’

Positive social impact is a reference to ‘corporate social responsibility.’ The latter term is a self-regulation mechanism for businesses to aid them in their philanthropic, activist, or charitable goals. Moreover, brands that do not abide by their corporate social responsibilities are often shunned.

The spider web of corporate social responsibility

If you’re looking for a guide on how to implement them better or to see whether your favorite brands are socially responsible, keep reading!

1. Create A Brand Ethos That Resonate With People

Firstly, create a brand ethos. Brand ethos refers to a connection that is made between the brand and its audience. Necessarily it’s the beliefs of a company that helps them align with customers who share the same ideas. Having a practical ethos can help you start critical social dialogues.

For instance, several brands create a dialogue on racism, sexism, and unfair labor practices. Speaking about unfair practices is a way for a brand to use its influence to create a positive social impact.

2. Be Environmentally Friendly

Secondly, implement environmental-friendly policies. Reduce your carbon footprint. Package your goods in biodegradable material. Recycle. Filter. Dump your waste responsibly. In a survey cited by Harvard Business Review, 65% of people said they buy purpose-driven brands.

Advocating for environmental sustainability and implementing it is a win-win situation. You not only build clout with a broad base of consumers, but you also get to create a positive social impact.

3. Abolish Sexist Policies

Thirdly, lead the change in making workplace progressive. Take your cue from Netflix—  52 weeks of paid parental leave are offered to its employees, which can be availed whenever. Parental consent is also the same for men and women alike. Moreover, the average parental leave other tech companies provide is 18 weeks.

Sexist workplaces' power dynamic

Additionally, ensuring that male and female employees are judged based on their performance solely is also an effective measure. This way, the concept of ‘glass ceiling’ can slowly but surely be broken down. Having strict harassment laws can make sure that the workplaces of such brands are safe for all.

4. Set Aside A Percentage of Profit For Charity

Lastly, donate to good causes. Setting aside a percentage of profits to be deducted from annual profit sheets is a great way too. It is cost-effective: taking out monthly can be labor-intensive and inefficient. Donating a sum from annual profit will ensure that a substantial amount is going to the charity of your choice.

Similarly, you can fund underprivileged schools, old homes, orphanages, or animal welfare organizations. Whatever cause speaks to your heart can be helped by you donating even the smallest percentage of your profit. Moreover, this way, other brands can be inspired and motivated to do the same!

How many brands do you know who are creating a positive social impact? Let us know in the comments below!

How To Get Rid Of Oily Skin In This Killer Heat!

get rid of oily skin
source: medicalnewstoday.com

If the “getting rid” part of the article brought you here, then welcome to the #IHateMySkin club (yes, a FRIENDS fan here). I’ve got good and bad news for you.

  • Bad News: you can’t just “get rid” of your skin type like that.
  • Good News: you can treat it better and make it look good!

Taking care of your oily skin can be a tricky thing, especially in this killer heat. Open pores, acne, and greasy face all are common during this time. It can be even more challenging when you have to go to school, university, or work.

Oh, if only people with naturally good skin knew how privileged they are!

Well, you can start with not skipping washing your face twice a day AT LEAST. Try to use an exfoliator that is good for oily skin. Never ditch your sunscreen. Lastly, a proper diet and drinking plenty of water can make your skin look so much better.

Here are four things you should do to treat your oily skin better:

1. Pat it dry

After watching your face, pat dries your skin. Don’t bury your face in the towel and rub it on the surface. Instead, pat your face gently and with a clean cloth. If those water droplets, running down your face, don’t annoy you, then air drying is an even better option. Air drying is suitable for sensitive and acne-prone skin as well.

2. Blotting papers

Blotting papers are a lifesaver in this heat. Nowadays, wearing a mask can make a face even more greasy. Blotting papers can be beneficial. They absorb oil and make skin look non-greasy. So, whenever you go outdoors, just make sure to keep them in your bag. Blotting papers make your makeup look fresh even when it isn’t.

3. Face Mask

Face masks can hydrate the skin and remove oils. They can make skin look fresh by closing the pores. Clay face masks work well on oily skin. If you want to apply a natural face mask, then raw honey is a great option.

4. Moisturize your skin!!

There is a huge misconception out there that you don’t need to moisturize your oily skin. If you do, then it will look even more greasy. This is an entirely baseless misconception. Oily skin needs to be moisturized as well. If you don’t moisturize your skin, it will produce excessive oil. Aloe Vera has proven to be an excellent moisturizer for both oily as well as acne-prone skin.

What is your skin type, and how do you take care of it? Let us know in the comments below!

5 Ways to Prevent Your Phone from Being Hacked

Smartphones have virtually taken over our lives in this modern and digital world. These devices that we carry with us at all times have quite a lot of personal information such as
our online banking details, our whereabouts, our data, etc.

Even though the smartphone has vulnerable data, people tend to take it very lightly while clicking on random links, pop up windows, ads, or download malware on their devices without knowing. You must educate yourself regarding the problem to prevent any theft of data.

These devices are vulnerable and can easily be hacked if you don’t take precautions. Here are five ways you can prevent your phone from being hacked:

1- Switch Off Bluetooth at All Times: Leaving your Bluetooth on at all times is not safe. Firstly, it will drain your phone’s battery, and secondly, it will provide hackers access to your device. This form of hacking is so neatly done that the user might never be able to identify that the device is being hacked.

Switch off the Bluetooth when it is not required.

2- Stop Using Public wifi: This is one of the popular ways; your phone might get hacked. When you connect your phone to public wifi, hackers can access your phone. In this way, they steal your personal information by using wifi to an open hotspot.

When out in public, avoid using the Public wifi, and in case you’re using it, keep it short. End your session as soon as you’re done.

3- Pop up Windows: While using a browser on your phone, or surfing on the internet, you see pop up windows that display some kind of luring content such as make money online or something or the other. It is advisable not to click on those windows or the ads as malware content downloads on your phone automatically, which can lead to someone entering your device and stealing valuable information.

4- Turn off the auto-fill feature: iOS and Android both have the auto-fill feature, which automatically fills your username, email address, and password to many websites as long as you allow it. iPhone usually requires your finger impression or Face ID for that which is exceptionally feasible for someone who forgets their credentials often, but the feature is not the safest.

Hackers can obtain this information from the feature conveniently. It is best not to use the feature and write down your credentials someplace safe.

5- Protect your Credit Card data: If you have made a transaction online, be sure to delete the information of your credit card later once you’re done. If in case, this information goes in the wrong hands, you will get into some serious trouble.

Not having a credit/debit card added to your phone will not attract hackers to hack your device. Also, get a paid security app that can prevent information theft.

4 Important Things To Teach Your Kids About Cyberbullying

cyberbulying

Cyberbullying can take many shapes, including threatening a person through text messaging or social media, taking inappropriate pictures of someone, or “leaking them.” According to the i-SAFE foundation, around half of the children and teens from around the are bullied online.

Additionally, more than half have bullied someone else. Parents should teach their kids about cyberbullying in order to protect their kids and prevent them from doing so. Parents should also build a relationship based on trust and kindness with kids.

This act of bullying online is more common than you think. Recently, a victim spoke about her cyberbullying experience. It happened in a popular game called PUBG. She said that a player used abusive language and gave rape threats. Since he called out her player number, it was directed towards her. She further asked PUBG to take measures to make the game a safe space for everyone.

Here are four things to teach your kids about cyberbullying:

1. What is Cyberbullying?

Firstly, kids should be able to identify if they are being cyberbullied. This will help them decide further actions. Hence, they will be able to protect themselves. It is the act of bullying people with the use of digital devices. It is most common on social media networking sites; for instance: Facebook, Instagram, and Tik Tok. Messages that carry physical threats or are sexual are also part of bullying.

2. They can trust you

3. They can report

Kids should learn that they can report bullying that happens through the use of digital devices. Additionally, they should report it even if it’s happening to someone else. They should be taught that the parents and authorities will take action to protect the victim. They will make sure that the kids are safe. You should also tell your kids while it is essential to go and report o the relevant authorities, it is more important to take one’s parents in confidence first as they may be able to guide kids better.

4. Don’t respond to cyberbullying

Parents should teach their kids not to respond to cyberbullying. If they receive a forwarded message, they should not send it ahead. Instead, the kids should let an adult know. They shouldn’t reply to a threat with a threat. Furthermore, the kids should be warned about not deleting any messages that come from the bully as they can be used as evidence while reporting.

Ducky Bhai Just Called TikTokers Cringy & Talentless!

Ducky bhai

Pakistan’s popular YouTuber, Ducky Bhai, called out TikTokers for not joining other mediums to generate content. Indirectly, he called the tikTokers cringy and talentless.

YouTuber of the year PISA2020 left a tweet full of hatred after India banned Chinese App, Tiktok. While the app has not been banned in Pakistan, TikTokers at this side of the border are horrified of losing the app as some of them have a massive following.

Even if Tiktok gets banned in Pakistan just like in India, non-lip sync, talented and less cringy people are welcome to YouTube. Rest stay the fuck away from the platform for God’s sake.

We agree that content on YouTube is far more mature than that of content on TikTok, but this was straight up rude. TikTok is the only app that has given some amount of power to micro-influencers.

After ducky bhai’s hateful tweet, social media uproared and questioned the quality of content created by the YouTuber himself over the years. For those of you who don’t know, Ducky bhai’s content has been labeled as problematic many times.

Kuttay wala filter lagati thi, Socha wafadaar bhi hogi. *Insert TikTok music*

A post shared by Saad Ur Rehman (@duckybhai) on

A twitter user said that if anyone needs to stay away from the internet, it is ducky Bhai himself.

He received his fair share of response after the hateful tweet.

A twitter user said, “every platform has cringy content, and problematic content don’t generalize, and upar se TikTok was a good platform for some people like they could finally express themselves, your elitism shows”.

This was the funniest response! YouTube is free for everyone, anyone can access it, or create content on the video-based website.

Why did India ban Tiktok?

The Indian government banned a total of 59 Chinese mobile applications. These 59 apps include Tiktok, WeChat, Helo, and many others. The ban took place because these applications pose a threat to India’s “sovereignty and security.”

Netizens React to EASA’ Suspension of PIA to Operate in Europe

A little over a month ago, on 22nd May, when PIA PK 8303 crashed near the Karachi airport, all of Pakistan mourned.

Over 100 souls, including men, women, children, the elderly, and even one of our aspiring models, Zara Abid, lost their lives.

The crash did not only open a detailed investigation as to what happened and who was responsible behind this devastating incident but also revealed alarming stats about PIA’s pilots.

PIA spokesperson Abdullah Hafeez told Dawn that around 260 pilots were found to have ‘dubious’ licenses leading to their grounding and termination, including the famous sister-duo pilots.

Why These PIA Pilot Sisters Are Raising Eyebrows?

EASA Suspends PIA Operations in Europe

Yesterday, PIA took it to that their official social media accounts to announce that the European Union Air Safety Agency (EASA) has suspended the authorization of the airlines to operate in Europe for the next six months.

This decision was taken after the grounding of the pilots following the horrible crash.

EASA told PIA “it is still not sure” if all the remaining pilots are qualified, and that “they have lost their confidence” in the airline, PIA spokesman Abdullah Khan confirmed.

However, PIA has been receiving mixed feelings from netizens after this announcement.

Social Media Reacts to PIA’s Suspension

Here’s what the people have to say:

PIA Europe Ticket Scandal

PIA not only has lost its six months operations on Europe but also has become a victim to a scam worth 8 million!

Reportedly, some officials, PIA’s Sialkot office accommodated around 50 old ticket holders for their travel to Italy and Paris on select flights to mint money breaking the rules and policies.

As per policy, PIA has currently not been accommodating passengers that have purchased tickets before the current COVID-19 pandemic; this applies to any destination.

The select flights have been issued new tickets, which are almost double the average ticket rates.

A source told Dawn that “The officials in question accommodated old purchased tickets by charging extra money from their holders (passengers) for their travel to Italy and Paris.” The source also added that the officials who are behind this massive fraud had collaborated with some travel agents.

Moreover, an inquiry has said to be initiated against the culprits.

It is genuinely heartbreaking to see Pakistan’s national carrier, which was once one of the best airlines in the world, fail. Successful airlines such as Emirates had taken thorough training from PIA to kickstart their operations, and have become success stories themselves.

We hope that PIA will once again make Pakistan proud and will fly back very soon.

Countries all over the world implemented lockdown in the last few months. Even now, many places are still in lockdown due to the pandemic.

The corporate world has taken charge to make economic conditions better. Many entrepreneurs are now taking their brands digital. Moreover, brands are also giving back and donating in this time of crisis. Furthermore, many brands have decided not to delay their launch. This is because the situation doesn’t seem to improve soon.

While most of us whined about staying indoors and having nothing to do, Habit’s team launched their sunscreen amidst coronavirus. At first, it was delayed from March 2020, but the company didn’t want to drag its launch anymore. Furthermore, because their goal was to launch in summers, the company decided to go ahead and start it this year.

The team took this after getting intimidated by “this is the new normal” mostly. After the launch, the company has decided to explore new marketing options, for instance: TikTok. The company is trying to spread positive energy and is confident despite the turmoil conditions of the market.

  3. Neverland

The idea of Neverland was conceived during the pandemic. When its founders went to buy some plants for their apartments, they realized many problems with their whole buying experience. Thousands of people have signed up with them even before the launch of Neverland.

Pakistan International Airline (PIA) Pilot Sisters, Maryam Masood, and Erum Masood have been listed as two of the grounded PIA pilots among 150 others. A thorough investigation has been called out into the matter by PM Imran Khan after PIA’s recent plane crash.

Investigation reveals that 150 Pilots may have fake licenses.

PIA spokesman Danyal Gilani said: “There is no known record of two real sisters having flown the same weight category aircraft concurrently.”

He added: “History was made when Erum was upgraded to fly a B-777.”

Last year, one of the sisters, Maryam Masood, had made it to the headlines again. Reportedly, Maryam was flying an aircraft scheduled to take off from Islamabad to Gilgit that skidded on the runway. Urine tests were done, and later the pilot was grounded.

Careem & Visa Sign Landmark Partnership To Accelerate Cashless Payments And Digital Financial Inclusion

Dubai, UAE; 28 June 2020: Careem, the internet platform for the greater Middle East, and Visa (NYSE: V), the world’s leader in digital payments, have partnered to expand digital financial inclusion across the Middle East and North Africa region by integrating Visa credentials into the Careem Pay Super App and providing Careem captains (the term for Careem drivers) with financial payment services that aim to resolve liquidity challenges associated with cash conversion, remittances and real-time access to funds.

Initially, Careem’s captains in five countries will be issued with Visa card credentials that will allow them to access a variety of advanced payment solutions. The Careem Pay Super App will be equipped with Visa’s real-time push payment solution Visa Direct that allows fast, safe, convenient, and real-time payments directly to eligible cards, accounts, and wallets. This will enable Careem captains to instantly access earnings from their daily trips in real-time as opposed to any time lags. Careem captains will also be able to use low-cost remittance solutions to make fund transfers to bank accounts and Visa cards worldwide, providing them access to cheaper modes of remitting money.

Junaid Iqbal, Managing Director, Careem Pay, said: “The only way digital payments truly make a difference is when both sides of the market benefit. Through this partnership with Visa, Careem will be paying captains in real-time, bringing them into the digital marketplace, and removing the need for cash.

Digital payments are the backbone of Careem’s Super App, giving us immense opportunities to simplify the lives of even more people across the region. The partnership with Visa will not only solve cash flow constraints but will also provide many new use cases to improve the everyday lives of Careem customers.”

This move aligns with increased adoption and preference for digital payments. Visa’s latest Stay Secure survey[1] shows that consumers in the Middle East, including Pakistan, prefer digital payments over cash because they find it more secure, faster, convenient, and widely accepted. There is also a growing trend of contactless payment adoption, which now represents at least a third of all face-to-face transactions in nearly 50 countries, according to Visa data. In the UAE and Saudi, that figure is higher – with 8 out of 10 operations in Saudi and more than half of transactions in UAE made using contactless cards or devices.

Marcello Baricordi, Visa’s General Manager for MENA, commented, “The coronavirus outbreak has challenged societies around the world, and many individuals and businesses continue to experience severe hardship, especially the underbanked who are more vulnerable. As a company, Visa is working hard, along with our partners, including fintech, Super Apps, and Digital Banks, to support, inform, and protect our societies. We see how COVID-19 has radically changed how we spend, spend, and use money. Enabling secure, immediate movement of money for gig economy workers like Careem captains is especially vital as we support economic recovery efforts.”

He added: “With the pandemic already reinforcing existing trends towards increased digitization of payments, it is vital to introduce convenient and secure cashless solutions to bring formal financial services to the underbanked. Through our global payments network, VisaNet, we are helping Careem’s Super App move into global commerce in a fast, secure, scalable, and innovative way by giving millions of captains and consumers more options to manage and move their money in real-time. Our next-generation fund transfer solutions include earnings payouts, P2P transfers, and cross-border remittances that are integral to economic recovery.”

Visa and Careem will partner with licensed banks and regulators to roll out this service across the entire region where Careem operates, initiating from the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Uber Rolls Out Enhanced Safety Measures Amid COVID-19 Outbreak

Islamabad – June 30, 2020: As the government begins to ease off lockdown and workplaces slowly resume operations, Uber Pakistan’s #MoveWithSafety campaign aims to educate and raise awareness of the additional safety measures it has put in, to help the app’s users stay safe.

Uber partner drivers in Pakistan will be asked, as part of a new in-app safety checklist, to verify that they are wearing a mask using their new object recognition technology. Any driver who is not wearing a mask or a face covering will not be able to go online. Drivers can cancel the ride if a rider is not wearing a mask, without incurring a penalty.

Partner drivers will also be asked to confirm if they have taken additional safety measures, such as regularly sanitizing their car and making hand sanitizers available for their riders. Riders will also be able to cancel rides without incurring penalties if drivers aren’t wearing masks.

Similarly, riders will be asked whether they have taken necessary safety precautions, like washing their hands before getting in the car, sitting in the backseat, and opening windows for ventilation. Only two riders per car will be allowed, in line with government regulations in Sindh and Peshawar, and three riders per car in Punjab and the Federal Capital.

Globally, Uber is investing $50 million to help ensure every driver and courier has access to personal protective equipment, and cleaning and sanitizing supplies needed to work more safely on the Uber app. This includes providing masks to drivers across Pakistan and reimbursing eligible drivers and couriers for the purchase of a sanitizer or disinfectant product of their choice up to a maximum amount, which is defined for each country.

So far, Uber has provided or reimbursed hand sanitizers, cleaning sprays, and disinfectant wipes to drivers in Pakistan, as well as over 20,000 masks. It is also partnering with Unilever to distribute hygiene kits to drivers and couriers across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Saad N. Pall, General Manager at Uber Pakistan, said,

At Uber, we put safety at the heart of everything we do, and we believe technology can make travel safer than ever before. Now, as cities begin to reopen, we want to ensure that both riders and drivers recognize that they have a shared responsibility to make travel safer, and enough flexibility to manage this while prioritizing health and safety. Governments, as well as the private sector across the globe, are continually working to assess and adapt a world post the COVID-19 pandemic. We want to use the scale and influence of our platform to proactively complement the government’s efforts to help everyone stay safe and healthy.”

Previously, Uber also announced the launch of Uber Medics in the UAE and Saudi Arabia as part of its global commitment to Move What Matters, providing healthcare workers with discounted trips to and from their workplaces. Additionally, ‘Uber By the Hour’ offers riders with an hourly ride option without having to re-request a trip at each location – strengthening safety, providing additional flexibility for passengers and an additional earnings opportunity for drivers.

Other safety initiatives announced in light of COVID-19 include:

  • New health and hygiene feedback system: Uber is adding new options for feedback in the app. This includes an opportunity to report if a rider or driver is wearing a mask or not. Anyone who is repeatedly flagged for violating the new safety policies risks losing access to Uber’s apps.
  • Safety education materials: Working with the World Health Organization and the latest public health advice, Uber has compiled safety tips and recommendations geared explicitly toward ridesharing. This will be used to educate riders and drivers on unsafe behavior.
  • Financial Compensation: Financial assistance will be provided for up to 14 days to any driver who is diagnosed with COVID-19 or is individually asked to self-isolate by a public health authority while their account is on hold.

These new safety measures will stay in effect until the end of July when they will be reviewed based on the latest official health guidance.

LUMS Gives Free Internet Devices To Students On Financial Aid

LUMS Gives Free Internet Devices To Students On Financial Aid

Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) has given out internet devices to students who were on full financial aid. The university took this step in light of online classes happening because of coronavirus. The machine had 75 GB per month.

LUMS’ student tweets

On 29th June, Wardah Noor, a student at LUMS, shared this on twitter.

She said that she was concerned about not being able to afford the internet. This was because she didn’t have a job, and her father’s pension was only Rs. 25,000.

She further said that the LUMS management itself took this step. Students didn’t request the university to give out free devices.

Moreover, Noor also thanked LUMS for recognizing the issue.

Internet: a necessity or a privilege?

On the one hand, the internet is becoming an essential part of everyday life. It has become a necessity. Its importance has only increased in the coronavirus struck world particularly. Now, schools, colleges, and universities are conducting online classes. Hospitals are also conducting clinics online. Additionally, companies are asking people to work from home now. On the other hand, a considerable chunk of populations in all parts of the world is still deprived of the internet.

Educational institutions should level the playing field.

Although a large part of the population of Pakistan is internet users, there is still an even more significant number of people who don’t have internet access. There are various reasons for this, including internet affordability. In many areas of KPK, Balochistan, and Gilgit, there is no internet connection available.

Therefore, educational institutions should make sure to make it easier and accessible for students before conducting online classes. Institutes need to do this so that the playing field should be equal for all. Consequently, privileged students do not get an advantage over unprivileged ones. If institutions and authorities do not consider this, then it will only create more inequalities.

Existing inequalities

In Pakistan, there exists a significant issue of inequality. People get unfair treatment based on their caste, creed, religion, sex, and ethnicity. It is because of such differences that the students of KPK and Balochistan are protesting against online classes. The police arrested many students from the protests for the violation of Section 144.

3 Best Movies That Accurately Portrayed Mental Illnesses

Movies are increasingly trying to highlight mental illnesses for awareness purposes. Films often transcend the bounds of ‘entertainment’ to shed light on pressing issues like mental illnesses. However, it can go either way when a movie decides to depict such diseases.

Why it’s essential to get it right.

In today’s age, mental illnesses are still stigmatized and a source of shame for many. It can be difficult to represent it without having done extensive research, which can ‘otherize’ characters. How said characters are portrayed in movies, affect those with actual mental illnesses profoundly.

On the other hand, those who get it right can positively impact how mental illnesses are viewed in society. Millions around the world suffer from a mental illness, and so this is a very relatable theme. Positive representation and realistic depictions can make people more aware and empathetic toward their counterparts. These are the three best movies that accurately depict mental illnesses

1. A Beautiful Mind

A Beautiful Mind by Ron Howard was released in 2001 and won everyone’s hearts. It’s based on a true story of John Forbes Nash, the famed mathematician with schizophrenia. Nash developed the ‘Game Theory’ principle in Economics, which defied the economic theories of centuries. As his work starts gaining attention, and the government pursues him, his mental illness progresses.

Moreover, the film is lauded for how it honestly depicts the progression of mental illness. Nash is not shown as an evil character, rather extremely kind, intelligent, and sympathetic. The world is shown from his eyes, so much so that his hallucinations seem real to the viewer. Akin to the name, it is indeed a beautiful movie.

2. Silver Linings Playbook

This film’s genre is comedy-drama, which can be surprising since it’s about mental illness. However, that is precisely what makes this film a hit all around the world. It features a story about a guy Pat (played by Bradley Cooper) who just got released from a mental hospital. He goes to jail for senselessly beating the guy his wife was having an affair with. When he gets out, he tries to win back his family with the help of Tiffany, who also needs a dance partner.

Pat is diagnosed with bipolar disorder and manic depressive illness. The movie shows the range of emotions a character with such diagnoses feels in a captivating way. It’s light-hearted and optimistic, and that’s what most people love about it. Pat is not shown to be held down by his mental illness.

3. The Perks of Being A Wallflower

This movie is different in an exciting way because it’s a coming-of-age film. This genre highlights the transition from adolescence to adulthood for young adults. However, in this case, the young-adult, Charlie, is growing up with a mental illness. Charlie joins a new high-school where he begins on a single note but then makes two charming senior friends. His mental health begins to deteriorate as his friends prepare for college.

The film explores childhood trauma and what it is like to grow up with a mental illness. Despite the several dark themes at play, the film ends on an optimistic note and is loved by many.

‘Pandemic Potential’ Flu Virus Found in China

Pandemic

According to leading news sources, worldwide researchers have found out that the Chinese pigs in China have been catching infections often with a strain of influenza. It is said that this can jump to humans quickly as an ‘infectious disease.’

The virus can mutate eventually and spread conveniently from person to person. It has the potential to become a pandemic. Right now, the world doesn’t need a pandemic during an ongoing pandemic.

Researchers say it is not an immediate issue at hand right now, such as the coronavirus, but it can trigger a global outbreak and must be monitored to keep in control. Since the virus is relatively new, humans have no immunity to it as of yet.

What needs to be done to control another pandemic from taking place?

To control this specific pig virus, World-renowned scientists have said in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences that vigilant monitoring is required. Strict check up on the workers from the swine industry should be implemented as soon as possible.

As the world struggles to fight with the ongoing novel coronavirus, scientists are looking for influenza of a bad strain. This is among the top threats regarding diseases.

The newest virus is not a threat as yet. In the United Kingdom, Prof Kin-Chow Chang from the Nottingham University told a leading news source that: “Right now we are distracted with coronavirus and rightly so. But we must not lose sight of potentially dangerous new viruses.”

This newly discovered virus is relatively new; it is not an immediate problem, says the Prof, “We should not ignore it.”

The Head of the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Cambridge, Prof James Wood, said the work “comes as a salutary reminder.” The ongoing pandemic has defiantly opened the eyes of humanity.

We are always at risk of new infectious diseases; the emergence of pathogens must be monitored often. It is said that the animals that are farmed can potentially play the role of being a source of these pandemics than those who live in the wild.

“We need to be vigilant about other infectious disease threats even as COVID is going on because viruses have no interest in whether we’re already having another pandemic,” says an evolutionary biologist at the United States, National Institutes of Health’s Fogarty International Center, Martha Nelson.

She adds, “Influenza can surprise us. And there’s a risk that we neglect influenza and other threats at this time” during an ongoing pandemic.

However, Nelson has a different opinion about the virus’s potential to become a pandemic. “The likelihood that this particular variant is going to cause a pandemic is low.”

According to Worldometers, there have been 10,412,421 coronavirus cases in the world. While 508,228 have lost their lives during the pandemic, 5,668,668 people have been recovered.

In Pakitan, the number of cases has been increasing rapidly. We have more than 200,000 people affected by COVID-19 while 4000+ have lost their lives.
