The coronavirus lockdown has resulted in reduced food deliveries and no restaurant outings. We see many people getting creative with food and taking to Instagram to share their recipes and creativity.
Cooking can be therapeutic for some, and for others, it’s an opportunity to spend more family time by either baking or enjoying a home-cooked meal together. Many of us still crave our favorite foods, and sometimes, the only option is to make it!
Here is an easy recipe to make Pasta in white sauce.
Ingredients:
Pasta – you can use any you like, I have used Tagliatelle which is a type of Ribbon pasta
A tin of corn
Onion
Garlic
Parsley
A tin of mushrooms
Butter
Olive oil
Flour
Cream
Dried Herbs
Salt
Pepper
Red chili flakes
Milk
Meat – Chicken/salami
Preparation:
1. Put some butter and olive oil in a cooking dish. I used a large frying pan. Add in some onions and crushed garlic and stir. Once the onions are soft, add in mushrooms and corn. Sprinkle on salt, pepper, red chili flakes, herbs, and some fresh parsley.
To Prepare White Sauce:
Take some butter in a pan and add about two tablespoons of olive oil. Add to this about three tablespoons of flour and let it cook for a few minutes while stirring continuously. Add some milk (continue stirring) and make sure that the mixture does not get lumpy. Add in more milk as required. You can also add in half a cup of water if you feel the sauce is thick. Add in some cream ( I used about half a packet ). Add in a half-teaspoon of mustard, salt, and pepper to taste.

Add in the vegetables prepared earlier to the white sauce.

If you want to use chicken or any other meat, you can prepare it separately using chicken cubes and in the same way as the vegetables above. I have used chicken salami that I have cut into strips and sautéed, as shown below. This was convenient, available at home, and added in a sweet, smoky flavor to the Pasta.

Prepare the Pasta
You can boil as much Pasta as you feel the number of people in your family. The dish I made would feed around six people.
Once the pasta is boiled and drained, add it to the white sauce mixture with the vegetables.
Serve in a dish and garnish with the sautéed salami.

The first-ever ‘Electric Vehicle’ (EV) charging station in Pakistan has become operational in Islamabad. The station, set up in F-7 Markaz, is the first of many and the first step towards a revolution in Pakistan.
The First Electric Vehicles Charging Station
The station was set up a few days ago and has started functioning now. It has been put in place at Pakistan Stae Oil (PSO) in F-7 Markaz by the Barqtron Energy Company. The Science and Technology personnel were overjoyed and so were others! Check out the pictures below which shows the first few cars being charged by the EV charging station.
Moreover, can you see how many people were standing by and crowding the place? Seems like the charging station got quite the welcome!
The charging station was set up as part of the government’s plan to encourage people to purchase electric vehicles. The policy was initially passed on June 10th with the approval of the Prime Minister. It is a testament to all of the government’s effort to cut air pollution and curb climate change.
It aims to bring half a million electric motorcycles and rickshaws, along with more than 100,000 electric cars, buses and trucks, into the transportation system over the next five years.

The goal is to have at least 30 per cent of all vehicles running on electricity by 2030. The first stage of the policy also focuses on those vehicles that are most common in ht heavily populated areas. These are the two-three wheel vehicles which have become heavily incentivised by the government.
Financial Incentives To Shift To Electric Vehicles
The National Electric Vehicles Policy also outlines some major financial incentives to be going for EV.
Manufacturers, assemblers, and suppliers in the EV and related infrastructure industries will benefit from lower taxes: 1% GST for EVs, as opposed to 17% for regular vehicles. Additionally, the import duty for charging equipment is also being cut down to 1%. The government will also install at least one DC fast-charging station every 10 square kilometres in all major cities and every 15–30 kilometres on all motorways.
However, the policy had some cons that were pointed out. The policy leaves out cars in its outline which is essentially ridiculous since cars constitute a major part of the vehicular system of Pakistan. Moreover, this leaves out the poor completely. While a normal rickshaw may cost approximately Rs.250,000, an electric one would cost Rs.400,000. How can someone be expected to make this investment?
According to the government, the cost will be covered in roughly one year. Here’s to hoping the goal set for 2030 is achieved.

1 – Caramel Macchiato

Ingredients you need:
1 cup coffee
5 tablespoons heavy cream
2 tablespoons caramel sauce
4 tablespoons brown sugar
¼ teaspoon salt or less
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Ice
Instructions: In a blender, add brown sugar, salt, vanilla extract, and ice. Blend the ingredients. Pour it in a serving glass, add one cup of black coffee. Top the drink with heavy whipped cream and caramel sauce.
2 – Pumpkin Spice Latte

Ingredients you need:
1 cup of sugar
1 cup of water
2 tablespoons pumpkin puree
2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
½ cup coffee
2 cups of milk
Instructions:
Step 1: Make the syrup by cooking water and sugar in a saucepan. Bring it to a boil and then reduce the heat, add pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spice together. Let the syrup cool down.
Step 2: Heat milk and coffee together. Serve in a cup and add syrup as much as you prefer! Sprinkle some cinnamon on top, and you’re done!

⅓ cup of chocolate chips
3 tablespoons chocolate syrup
2 cups ice
⅛ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
This one is the easiest! Blend all the ingredients in the blender together and serve. Add some chocolate sauce and chocolate chips, if you fancy some.
4 – Green Tea Lemonade

Ingredients you need:
3 tablespoons sugar
1 green-tea bag
½ cup boiling water
2 lemons
¾ cup of water
Ice
Instructions:
This one is pretty simple too! Just let the green-tea bag sit in boiling water and sugar. Let it cool! Once the liquid is cool, add it to a glass with ice cubes, lemon juice, and cold water.
Serve with a slice of lemon.
5 – The Pink Drink

Ingredients you need:
1 cup fresh strawberries
½ cup of sugar
½ teaspoon green coffee bean powder
1 cup white grape juice
2 cups of coconut milk
2 cups ice
Optional: strawberries and blackberries
Instructions:
You will need the green coffee bean powder and grape juice as a base. Start by making a strawberry syrup by cooking sugar and strawberries together! Strain all the concentrated liquid and add to your base with a splash of coconut milk and ice.
Serve with fresh blackberries and strawberries
6 – Cinnamon Dolce Latte

¾ cup boiling water
One teaspoon instant espresso powder
1/2 cup milk
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon brown sugar
½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 pinch of nutmeg
Optional: whipped cream and ground cinnamon
Instructions:
The first step is to combine brown sugar, milk, nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla; stir the pot until ingredients are thoroughly combined.
Add the mixture to a cup of expresso diluted in water. Add some whipped cream on top and cinnamon, and you’re done.

Humans More Inhumane Than Animals
For animal lovers, Pakistan’s streets and news are a nightmare. Even for those who aren’t particularly animal lovers, for those empathetic to the voiceless, each day is challenging to go through. No matter how much you try to avoid and avert your eyes, you’ll know about one case or another.
Think about the dog who was tied to the back of a car while the car was speeding on burning hot streets of Karachi. Think about hundreds of harmless, neutered, and vaccinated dogs who are tied from the legs and then poisoned. Ushna Shah once cried on Instagram after seeing the video of a dog being shot and left in agony even though he was peacefully sleeping under a building.
They weren’t harming anyone; they don’t attack you unless you attack them. Why can’t they live?

A kitten was raped repeatedly by a 15-year-old boy and his friends until the kitten passed away. We’ll spare you with the details because anyone who’s read them has gone into a dissociative state.
It’s unfathomable, and there are no longer any words that can explain the cruelty that’s inflicted on animals. As disgusting as it may be, this isn’t the first animal rape case. Dogs are beaten, tied, and raped. Another video is also circulating on social media of a young man raping a cat.
Organisations That Need Your Help
Internationally, there are proper laws in place. Such cases, in foreign lands, can be tried in courts. This is a criminal activity, just not in Pakistan. People are enraged and using their rage for good to sign petitions to pressurize the government into creating laws. Nothing can be done to protect these voiceless, innocent animals unless their abusers are imprisoned and termed as criminals by the law.

Karachi Rain has taken everybody by storm. Quite literally, that is! The city is seldomly flooded and is merely pleasant even in the coldest of months in Pakistan. Thus, the day before yesterday when the city of lights got persistent rain for a few hours, the condition on the roads immediately became the breeding ground for memes.
What Happened To Karachi?
The city with calming breezes, the smell of the sea and sunshine was flooded. Within a few hours of heavy rain, all roads and houses became submerged in muddy water. So much so that even cars were 3/4th in water. Power obviously had to be cut off from everywhere given that if electric lines fall in the water, people can be electrocuted.

Several areas in Karachi were without electricity for more than 24 hours. Moreover, what’s interesting is how one side of Karachi was submerged in water while the other was beaming with sunshine.

Was The Game Unbanned?
Once the battle royale game was banned, the avid players took it upon themselves to protest on social media. Various forms of hashtags were trending on Twitter for several days. One of those was #ImranKhanPUBGKholo, and millions came out to contribute to this hashtag.
Last week, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) declared the PTA’s decision to suspend the game as void temporarily. The decision was announced in order by Justice Amir Farooq, and a detailed judgment was expected to be followed. In other words, a high court of Pakistan ordered PTA to unban the game.

High courts and the supreme court of Pakistan are two of the most top authorities in the judicial system. Hence, a decision made by the high court for whatever party is supposed to be acted on. In cases of the objection, a final appeal can be made to the Supreme court too. We think the latter will be done in this case because PTA is not budging.

PTA responded to the order by saying they will continue with the imposition of a ban on PUBG.
On What Grounds Is PTA Banning PUBG?
PTA issued a detailed order which divulges all the reasons why the shooting game must be banned. The game so far has been blocked in the provision of the Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) 2016.
“The PTA provided an opportunity of hearing to concerned parties including PUBG’s lawyers. PTA has also approached PUBG management to inform about a suitable framework to address key concerns,” it added.

PTA said that it had been awarded the power, under Section 37 of Peca, to remove or block or issue directives against access to information through any information system is considered necessary in the interest of “public order, decency or morality.” According to PTA, the element of morality has also been applied. So, in short, playing PUBG or shooting games is immoral.
At a time when harassment cases, animal cruelty cases, and everything else is peaking, the government is safely blaming video games for moral turpitude.
Moreover, there’s also the question of being lazy, which PTA is particularly against.
“Sitting around in one place and playing for long hours is not good for physical health. Staring at the computer screen for long hours can affect eyesight and cause a headache,” the order states.

Thus, with the reasons explained above and more, the authority termed it necessary to block PUBG. This decision was made in the interest of public order and while exercising powers attributed to the body.

The routine of semesters
The period from January to May is usually the second of the two yearly semesters for college students. All ongoing semesters were disturbed as COVID-19 came about. Colleges and universities had to halt their semesters in the middle since the lockdowns were imposed in March.

The Fall semesters commencing from September will most likely be online too. However, this summer break is unlike any other. Most of us find ourselves with absolutely nothing productive to do at home. So what shall be done to curb this productivity or creativity lag? Pakistan’s renowned academic institution, Lahore University of Management Sciences, also made a shocking announcement. LUMS announced that they would be increasing their fee by 41%, which received a lot of backlashes. Students were enraged and campaigned on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook with the hashtag #LumsFeeHike to get the policy reverted.

Now, according to various reports by journalists and automotive fanatics, famous automotive brand KIA is expected to launch its KIA Cerato in Pakistan as well.
The KIA Cerato, popularly known as KIA Forte in American markets, is a mid-sized family sedan. It is a direct competitor to the likes of Toyota Corolla as well as the expected Hyundai Elantra.
The Cerato first came out in 2003 in the American markets and continued till 2008. After, the Forte replaced it but carried the Cerato name.

Coca-Cola Co is deciding to cut its zombie brands from its portfolio to focus more on efficient marketing. As COVID-19 hit, Coca-Cola Co. agreed to turn the attention towards on core brands.
Chief Executive of Coca-Cola James Quincey said that many of their 400 brands were in one country and accounted for only 2% of the revenue. The company is calling such brands the zombie brands.q
According to a FactSet transcript, James Quincey stated,
“We are shifting to prioritizing fewer but bigger and stronger brands across various consumer needs. At the same time, we need to do a better job nurturing and growing smaller, more enduring propositions and exiting some zombie brands, not just zombie SKUs [stock-keeping units].”
The process has already begun. The juice brand Odwalla is set to stop all its operations from July 31st, 2020. The company will witness almost 300 job cuts.

Due to the pandemic, most of the public places that supported Coca-Cola brand sales closed down. Therefore, several of Coca-Cola’s brands did not do well. However, since the public stayed home, the brands like Fairlife milk and the Simply Juice brands gave more profit.

By removing a number of their zombie brands, Coca Cola will have the room to give much more focussed support to brands with potential such as Minute Maid and Simply. Not only that, but they will also be able to see through the scaling of the brands that showed a promising start.
What Gets the Ball Rolling
Jame Quincey also mentioned that Coca-Cola had diverted its attention to the sparkling water category in China. In doing so, they realized that its strength lies with Coke Zero Sugar. It also witnessed a 14% increase in volume for the quarter.
Due to lacking technological advancements, according to Ryan Giannotto, director of research at GraniteShares, Coca Cola has been unable to generate profit for its shareholders. He said,
“From optimizing its product offering to opening new channels, Coca-Cola has fallen on the wrong side of the market in terms of digital adoption. It is for this reason, combined with lackluster management and poor capital reinvestment that we identify Coca-Cola as one the top 10 stocks to exclude in our XOUT Index.”

From 2016, an update in Google’s Ad System and User Control prompted users to click on “I Agree”. As a result, Google can access more consumer information than before. This information can help offer more targetted and efficient advertising. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) claims that Google is profiting by lying. However, Google Sued By ACCC has denied this allegation.

ACCC’s Stance on the Situation
Initially, Google could access consumer data from Google-owned services. Google used consumers’ personally identifiable information available on Google service and Youtube and offered targetted advertising.
However, since 2016, ACCC claims that with a misleading notification Google can now access consumer information from third-party websites. Moreover, the wording used, “more information will be available in your Google Account making it easier for you to review and control” did not fully describe the implications, ACCC states.

This update means Google can access more than just personally identifiable information. The more narrowed and accurate ad targetting will enable Google to make its service more expensive. Hence, at the expense of the consumer, Google will be able to profit on a larger scale. ACCC believes, most consumers would have chosen to not comply had Google explained this update more clearly.
ACCC chair Rod Sims:
“Google significantly increased the scope of information it collected about consumers on a personally identifiable basis. This included potentially very sensitive and private information about their activities on third party websites. It then used this information to serve up highly targeted advertisements without consumers’ express informed consent.”
Google, hence, sued ACCC for profiting at the expense of consumers by lying. However, this is not an indication of a violation of any privacy laws.
Google’s Response to the Allegation
Google has completely denied the charges. They maintain the stance that consumers were made aware of the changes and the decision was not forced on them.
Google’s spokesperson response on the matter to a publication was:
“In June 2016, we updated our ads system and associated user controls to match the way people use Google products: across many different devices. The changes we made were optional and we asked users to consent via prominent and easy-to-understand notifications. If a user did not consent, their experience of our products and services remained unchanged. We have cooperated with the ACCC’s investigation into this matter. We strongly disagree with their allegations and intend to defend our position.”
ACCC sues Google
Previously ACCC sued Google for misleading and deceptive content with respect to its search results. The case was fought for 5 years in which Google won the fight.
