According To Research, COVID-19 May Damage Sperm Count & Quality

Coronavirus’s effects on the bodies are a long list though it has been mainly experienced to be related to the respiratory system. However, new research suggested that its effects may also bleed into detrimental effects on the male sperm count.

What Is the New Research Suggesting?

A paper published in the journal called EClinicalMedicine looked at testis and epididymis (the tube that transports sperm from the testis) from several patients. The test pool included 6 male Covid-19 patients who had died from the disease and 23 patients recovering from mild or moderate cases of the disease.

After several tests were done using these samples, they were then compared to a control group of healthy men of similar ages.

What Were The Results?

The tissues of the men who had died of Covid-19 showed high levels of cells and proteins indicating inflammation. In other words, there was blood in the testes and epididymis, and dying cells. On the other hand, in the men recovering from Covid-19, 39% had low sperm counts. This was interesting to note because each of them had at least one biological child through natural pregnancy.

Moreover, 61% of the men also had an increased number of white blood cells in their semen, which indicates that sperm function is compromised.

What Needs To Be Taken Into Account?

As with all studies, several other facts are to be taken into account when interpreting this. Firstly, the test pool was tiny. To further corroborate these claims, testing on a larger scale has to be done.

Secondly, there is also no data on the sperm number and quality before they became sick with Covid-19. Hence, it is possible; their levels are not due to COVID-19. 

It is also important and concerning to note that if Covid-19 does hinder the sperm count and quality, it will be the first virus to do so.

Other Viruses and Their Effects

“There is a broad range of viruses that affect the male reproductive tract, particularly the testes,” said Krutika Kuppalli, MD, Assistant Professor at the University of South Carolina. 

The viral effects on male fertility have been noted with Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Influenza, Coxsackie virus. Among others are HPV, Ebola, EBV, and HSV. However, doctors suggest it will take some time to confirm whether this news is true or not.

She claimed that her mother had misunderstood what had happened and it remained so because her phone had been snatched and she was without it for two days. She also said that she will tell the public about the entire fiasco when she returns to Pakistan but that may take some time. This is because she will first be going to Dubai to sort out her property and then come back to Karachi.

In times where anything can become news and spread like wildfire, we should be more vigilant about the words we use as they can take a life of their own.

[April 8th, 2021]: When something remotely linked to Meera, it makes headlines. Not always is it something that should get sensationalized but to get more views and traffic, publications and news channels used terminologies and twist the stories in a way that change the matter at hand.

This time around as well, a story went viral which said that Meera had been forcibly admitted to a mental hospital. Meera’s mom was contacted by a TV channel. She too confirmed that during a phone call Meera had said that she was being forcibly sent to a mental hospital. And when she tried contacting

Meera again on her personal number, she had been unable to. In the video, Meera’s mom was requesting the government to help in Meera’s return.

After that, numerous speculations came up about the reason why she was sent there. While some said that this happened after a financial dispute with a Pakistani-American man, others speculated it to be because of her faulty English.

But no one delved into what was really going on and they started making fun of Meera jee as well as her life, and English, cashing on the name.

Seeing this, celebrities jumped in this matter. Armeena Khan, the Bin Roye Actress urged the people to be kind because if this news about Meera being in a mental hospital was true then she needed all the support.

Imran Abbas also carried the torch forward mentioning that he has in fact been in contact with the celebrity in question and there was nothing wrong with her. He was pissed at how the channels were twisting and molding the stories for their own benefit saying, “Calling someone mentally unstable is not a bloody joke.

Pakistan Soon To Get 15 Million Doses Of Covid Vaccine Under COVAX

[Update]: To accommodate the millions of Pakistanis, we need to acquire vaccines from every possible avenue. In that regard, Pakistan had been in talks with Germany as well. And now, yesterday, Shah Mahmood Qureshi took to Twitter announcing that Pakistan will be getting 15 million doses of vaccine under COVAX.

[Feb 15, 2021]: Pakistan is bringing in 17 million doses of the COVID vaccine. The AstraZeneca vaccine is said to come to Pakistan before April. The British High Commission has also stated that before June, an additional 10 million doses will also be provided. In total, it is being said to make more than eight million people protected from COVID. This is because each person needs to be administered multiple doses of it to be effective.

The official statements on the ETA of the Vaccine

Asad Umar, Chief of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) wrote in a tweet:

“Good news on COVID vaccine front. Received a letter from COVAX of [an] indicative supply of up to 17 million doses of AstraZeneca in 1st half 2021.”

The minister also said that six million of the total seventeen will be delivered in the month of February only. The initiative is a COVAX program according to which a number of countries will get the vaccine. And Pakistan is to get 17.2 million doses share. The goal of the program is to immunize 3% of the respective countries’ population.

The first dose is 76% effective and the percentage rises up to 82% after the second week if it is given after 12 weeks. More importantly, this vaccine is better for developing countries as it can be stored in normal fridges, kept for up to six months, and is cheaper.

Under the supervision of Dr. Faisal Sultan, the Special Assistant to Prime Minister, experts prepared recommendations for acquiring the COVID vaccine. It was submitted to the Federal Cabinet, where the government discussed how affordable the vaccine should be. The idea was that everyone should have access to the vaccine without discrimination. But on Wednesday, Dr. Nausheen Hamid announced that the cabinet had allocated the initial funds for the vaccine purchase, which will not be just affordable. Instead, it will be free.

Dr. Nausheen Hamid, Parliamentary Secretary National Health Services Regulations and Coordination (NHSRC), was in talks with a local news channel. She told them that the government has been working towards acquiring funding for the vaccine. According to her, it will be made available by the second quarter of 2021, which is a little different from the rumors. Initially, it was supposed to be the first quarter.

She also mentioned that a China-made vaccine for the pandemic is undergoing trials in Pakistan. The trial is already in its third phase. This whole process happening in Pakistan is a very privileged scenario for the country because very few states participate in a landmark achievement for the entire world. She assures that the moment it is proved that the vaccine works, it will be made available.

Dr. Nausheen Hamid elaborating on the government’s effort

In her talks, she mentioned that the government is in discussions with the companies working on vaccine development, and they will be making an informed decision. The factors they will e considering include but are not limited to are safety, side effects, storage, cost, production capacity, and of course, its efficacy.

Parliament Secretary NHRSC said, “The whole world is booking vaccines; we are also in touch with everyone.”

According to her, the vaccine will be available at cheap rates on the COVAX platform for 186 counties, and Pakistan also plans to do the buying from there. She continued to mention that a budget of $100 million has been approved for the vaccine. This, again, is a bit different from earlier news that said a budget of $150 million had been allocated.

She ended the talks by discussing how the continued rallies are a risky move, especially since the country is amid the second, more lethal wave of coronavirus. She urged the media to counsel people mentioning how the government cannot fight this war alone. The most they can do is increase the space in hospitals and gather funding for the vaccine. The people have to give in their input as well.

It is time to ‘act responsibly,’ she said.

For now, the price of the vehicle has not been revealed but it might just cost somewhere near the high end. We all know that the high-end does not really have an end so let us all wait till the price is dropped. Car Sales In Pakistan Increase Due To Cheap Financing

There was a 35% spike in the sales of commercial vehicles, jeeps, and vans manufactured locally during the first 9 months of the fiscal year 2015-16 (9MFY16). The reasons behind the increase in sales is two folds; the ownership of cars generally has become more affordable given the lowered interest rate of 42-year.

Other than that, the reason cited is the relative stabilization in the economy that has raised the demand along with the taxi scheme introduced by the government of Punjab.

Muhammad Tahir Saeed from Topline Securities commented that the sale of the local vehicles was 166,898 as opposed to the 123,638 units last year in the same time span during the first 9 months.

Pak Suzuki Motor Company went to 100,663 units taking them up to 51% year-on-year (YoY) in sales. However, the volume experienced a downward spike of 30% YoY and went up on month-on-month basis to almost 8% given the sale of 9,055 units.

Indus Motors’ YoY sales remained almost constant with 5,781 units but the sales increased almost 10% on MoM basis. In the same time span of 9MFY16, 47,504 units were sold as compared to the 40,141 last year (9MFY15). Depending on the variant the delivery of the new Corolla model may take two to four months as per Saeed.

With 16% YoY and 27% MoM increase in sales as per March 2016’s numbers, Honda Atlas Cars sold 18,542 units during the 9MFY16 opposed to 16,405 units in the same time duration last year.

“We believe that Honda City remained the major contributor to this growth,” said Saeed. “However, volumes of Honda Civic are expected to further dry out in coming months in anticipation of a new model launch.”

On the other hand, however, the tractor sales dipped to a 33% YoY low in sales with it only being able to sell 22,169 units.

Dubai To Build World’s Tallest Building After Burj Khalifa

Dubai plans to build a tower that will stand higher than its Burj Khalifa, currently the world’s tallest skyscraper, property developer Emaar said Sunday.

The viewing tower will cost around $1 billion (880 million euros) and will be “a notch” taller than Burj Khalifa, Emaar chairman Mohamed Alabbar told reporters as he revealed details of the project.

But he said that the final height will be announced upon completion, adding that his company would like to present the tower as a “gift to the city before 2020,” the year Dubai hosts the world Expo trading fair.

Designed by Spanish-Swiss architect Santiago Calatrava Valls, the tower will have observation decks, in addition to 18 to 20 mixed-use floors that will host restaurants and a boutique hotel, Alabbar said.

Burj Khalifa is 828 metres (2,700 feet) high and it cost $1.5 billion to build. It was opened in January 2010.

Alabbar described the new structure as an “elegant monument” which would add value to the property being developed by the company along the city’s creek.

“Many would like to have a view” when considering buying a property, he said.

The tower will be slender, evoking the image of a minaret, and will be anchored to the ground with sturdy cables, Emaar said.

Dubai has established a reputation for building dozens of futuristic skyscrapers, which have transformed its skyline.

Saudi Arabia’s Kingdom Holding is building a tower in Jeddah that is planned to surpass Burj Khalifa, rising more than a kilometre.

Samsung & LG To Make Screens For iPhone 13 Series

[Update]: Many rumors for iPhones circulate whenever they have an upcoming product launch. Just like that, with iPhone 13 there have been many rumors and facts that you will hear. One of them is that Samsung and LG will be making the screens for iPhone 13.

Samsung to join the production

This product is being said to make use of LTPO OLED displays. What this will allow is an adaptive refresh rate. It is also being reported that both the companies, Samsung and LG, are shifting to LTPO where iPhone related production lines are concerned. So with these updates to their manufacturing plants, Samsung might be ready to begin supplying from this year while LG will become part of it from the next.

It should be noted, however, that this display technology (LTPO) might only be restricted to iPhone 13 Pro duo.

[April 8th, 2021]: Samsung Electronics reported their financial results for the fourth quarter and the fiscal year 2020 and it’s making headlines.

The Company’s Statistics

Samsung posted their earning of KRW 61.55 trillion in consolidated revenue and KRW 9.05 trillion in operating profit in the quarter ended December 31, 2020. For the entire year, the mega-company reported KRW 236.81 trillion in revenue and KRW 35.99 trillion in operating profit.

This is an insanely good report for a tech company provided that the backdrop was one of a pandemic. 

How Did The Pandemic Affect Sales?

The challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic are still continuing and impacted tech companies hard. However, a company-wide effort to ensure a stable supply of products and services helped Samsung’s fourth-quarter results. Consumer sentiment, which was seriously hurt by the COVID-19 pandemic, began to surge at the end of last year and onto the first quarter.

In a statement released by Samsung, the company wrote: “Samsung Electronics was able to respond aggressively through flexible global supply chain management. This was actually their highest-ever quarterly revenue.

Profit Details

According to Samsung Electronics’ earnings guidance for quarter 1 which was announced on Wednesday, the tech giant posted consolidated sales of 65 trillion won. Their consolidated operating profit of 9.3 trillion won in the first quarter, up 17.5% and 44.2%, respectively from the same period of last year. 

Even compared to the fourth quarter of last year, which was positive, sales increased by 5.6%. This is significant for a primary reason. This is the first time that Samsung Electronics’ Q1 sales increased from last year’s 4Q since 2011.

It’s worth noting that the cause of Samsung’s soaring profits can be because of the circumstances offered. While Samsung launched several flagship phones in the previous quarter like the Galaxy Note 20 line, the Galaxy Z Fold 2, and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, its competitors could not. For instance, Apple’s annual iPhone launch suffered a rare slip in October.

This meant that Samsung was able to launch its new innovations in the markets without having to fight the competition. 

Samsung: Future Goals

For 2021, Samsung expects a recovery in overall global demand. However, accounting for uncertainties due to the recurring COVID-19 waves is crucial.

Additionally, Samsung was warned of lower profits in the coming quarter. This is because of the expected slump in memory demand and higher saturation in the smartphone market.

[Update]: PSL 6 for the year 2021 got postponed when a number of cricketers were tested positive for COVID-19. The tournament is going to commence from 1st June but the quarantine for participants will begin from 22nd May. All of the participants will be staying in one hotel until the final match of PSL 2021 that will be held on 20th June.

The remaining 20 matches, all of them, will happen in Karachi, National Stadium.

Update: 4th March 2021: On Thursday, the Pakistan Cricket Board has announced to postpone the sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League.

According to PSL’s official tweet, Chief Executive Wasim Khan, Director – Commercial and Babar Hamid, will hold a media conference at the National Stadium at 3PM to provide further updates.

Moments later, fans took their disappointment to Twitter and made the most of this news. Have a look at these below:

Lahore, 8 January 2021: Karachi Kings will begin from where they finished their successful HBL Pakistan Super League 2020 campaign by taking on 2019 champions Quetta Gladiators in the opening fixture of the 2021 edition at the National Stadium on 20 February.

On the following day, 2020 finalists Lahore Qalandars will take on 2017 winners Peshawar Zalmi in a day fixture, while two-time winners Islamabad United will square off against Multan Sultans in the evening.

The 30-day 34-match tournament will culminate with the final at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on 22 March, marking the first time the venue will stage the final since 2017.

To safeguard the integrity of the HBL PSL 2021 and to ensure health and safety of all participants in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the PCB has decided to hold the matches in Karachi and Lahore only. The National Stadium will stage the first half of the competition, while the Pakistan cricket headquarters at the Gaddafi Stadium will be the venue of the second half of the competition, including the playoffs.

With regards to crowd attendances, since Covid-19 is an evolving situation, a decision will be made closer to time though the event organisers are continuously monitoring the situation and remain in close contact with the concerned government officials.

While preparing the event schedule, the organisers have ensured each side is playing equal number of day and evening matches. Also, the event organisers have tried to make optimum use of the weekends while scheduling double-headers that will ensure maximum following and coverage.

The Support Period for the HBL PSL 2021 will commence from 15 February and the foreign players competing in the league will arrive into Karachi with a negative PCR test. Upon arrival, they will require two more negative PCR tests before being allowed to train and compete in the competition. The asymptomatic players or support staff returning a positive test will have to serve a five-day isolation period with RT-PCR tests on day one and four.

Babar Hamid, Director – Commercial: “We are delighted to announce the schedule of our marquee event – the HBL Pakistan Super League, which for the second successive season will be held in Pakistan in its entirety.

“We had to make the tough decision to limit matches to Karachi and Lahore, and this decision has been taken in the larger interest of the event, participants and the country. We want to limit the unnecessary exposure of the players as much as practically possible so that the players can operate in a safe and healthy environment that, in turn, will allow them to continue to entertain the fans and followers with their talent, skills and gamesmanship.

“The crowds in Multan and Rawalpindi were awesome last year and we owe a big thanks to them for their contribution in making the HBL PSL 2020 a resounding success. I am sure when life returns to normal, the two cities will get their share of matches as the PCB remains committed and determined to stage matches of the HBL PSL at as many venues as possible.

“Apart from the competitors, the PCB also has a duty of care towards the spectators. Although we have a couple of options on the table, the PCB will continue to monitor the situation and delay the decision as late as possible on crowd attendances as for the PCB, health and lives are of utmost importance.

“As for the six franchisees and the event organisers, the schedule announcement gives them an opportunity to start planning for the tournament. While the six sides will be finalising their squads at the upcoming players’ Draft, the PCB has already been working hard on event planning and now is time to change gears so that we can strengthen our reputation and credibility as a high-performing board.”

Audi Launches New One-Off Luxury Car

Audi has revealed the lengths it will go to to meet a client’s demands, and, in the case of the one-off A8 L luxury car unveiled on Monday, those lengths add up to 6.36 meters.

The bespoke limousine, based on the company’s flagship A8 L model, took a year to develop.

And while it simply looks like a stretched version of a standard car, Audi needed to totally redesign and rebuild everything beyond the A Pillar to ensure that six people could travel in complete comfort and that each occupant had his or her own door for getting in and out of the car.

Each passenger gets individual access to a full multimedia entertainment system while the very rear seat occupants also have access to an integrated cooler.

Perhaps most impressive is that despite the car’s huge size, Audi has managed to fit it with the same Quattro all-wheel drive system and ensure a 0-100km/h time of 7.1 seconds as well as the obligatory electronically limited top speed of 250km/h.

Pakistanis Share Their Worst Experiences On Tinder!

“I used to judge people who signed up on dating apps. Well, up until Lockdown descended and I signed up on Tinder,” said a young adult Pakistani female.

With the Tinder app shutting down in Pakistan, team Brandsynario approached some fellow Pakistanis and asked them how they found Tinder. Were they able to find their significant other or not?

The Tinder Experiences

As it turns out, most of their experiences were weird as hell! One would think, and here I am stereotyping, that women must have had it tough. But interestingly, even men had some really weird experiences to share. We have documented the most interesting ones here.

1. I am me!

In talks with Brandsynario, a Pakistani female shared her experience. She told us that she and her friend signed up on Tinder during the Lockdown. The sole idea was to see how the gentry was. Soon, the friend matched with a guy who was interesting to talk to. The conversation was going well until our interviewee also matched with him. And… here’s the highlight… the same discussion ensued.

They were confused. “Do you talk to every girl the same way?” Interviewee asked.

“No, you are special,” He said.

“But but but… what about my friend?” She asked.

“I am not a robot!”

2. Don’t You Remember Me?

One of our interviewees mentioned how he matched with a girl who refused to talk to him. Upon inquiry, she replied that she contacted him four years ago on Facebook. He didn’t respond nicely then.

3. Stalker much?

“I only matched with three people and could get only one to talk,” a male interviewee mentioned.

But the cute interactions of insisting on meeting for lunch/dinner turned to ‘accidentally’ meeting up when his location was turned on.

And things became super weird when she tells him she has a tracker on him and she can slit his wrist and her own.

4. Too Much Information, Tinder

A female shared the weirdest one yet. So she started talking to this man who had some insecurities. He kept mentioning how he was better than his sister because he did his BBA from London, while the sister was just an artist.

An hour into the conversation, he mentions he is adventurous; he once ‘played with himself’ for 16 hours straight. She hoped he meant PubG had he not further clarified.

I think Ali Zafar should quit everything else he’s working on and try for the role because even on a photoshopped image he’s totally on point as Nightwing.

So, I have heard some of my female friends say Fawad khan is charming, (I wouldn’t know I don’t watch much of his stuff) but I have to admit as doctor strange he literally has the power to charm anyone 😀

3. Humayun Saeed as Iron Man

Although if you ask me Humanyn Saeed doesn’t completely fill the shoes of Robert Downey Junior, there’s no other celebrity in Pakistan who could fill this role better in my humble opinion.

Causing ovaries to explode since he was a teenager, Imran Abbas certainly looks like he could play the part of the of the iconic marvel superhero Captain America, the question i find myself asking is if he would have that same commanding aura.

5. Mahira Khan as Scarlet Witch

So this image to me looks a lot like an indian movie poster, i would have liked to see much more details in this, but to be honest i really think mahira khan would totally be able to pull of the role of scarlet witch, even though she’s older i do believe she has the acting chops to take on Ultron.

Ok, Just no ! i would have loved to see a more agressive face on this guy, perhaps then he would have been able to convince me that he’s fit to bear the legacy of Hugh Jackman.

8. Sajid Hassan as Nick Fury

This guy has the resting bitch face down !, like literally the level of resting bitch face in this one is over 9000, you can totally sense the commanding aura, the meticulous mind behind the eyepatch. this dude would totally make an awesome Nick Fury, although i do believe he would be a more serious and less humorous character.

9. Qurat ul Ain Baloch as Black Widow

I’m on the fence about this one to be honest, it could be a trainwreck, or an amazing performance, i’m just trying to imagine a QBish Black Widow beating the crap out of innocent henchmen while singing in a high pitched falsetto.

10. Shaan Shahid as Batman

Better than Ben Affleck IMHO…

11. Hamza Ali Abbasi as Superman

Yaar this is just adorable ! i don’t know if you have watched civil war or not, if you haven’t go check out the new superman in civil war, this chaiwalal is totally as innocent as he is ! i mean Marvel should totally have this guy cameo in a spider mask somewhere in the next spiderman homecoming movie.
