Sadaf Kanwal & Sonya Hussyn Had a Fierce Clash Over Pakistani Movies!

Like every year, Eid ul Fitr 2018 saw Pakistani movies engage in a ferocious fight to mint the most moolah at the box-office.

With the government barring the release of all Bollywood movies for the entire Eid week, four major local films hit the cinemas in full force. From comedy to romance, action to thriller; there was something for all movie-buffs to enjoy over the festive season.

Seems like only Mahira Khan and Shehryar Munawwar’s ‘7 Din Mohabbat In’ has been successful in driving people to theatres. Meanwhile, Sonya Hussyn and Moammar Rana’s Azaadi, Danish Taimoor’s Wajood and Mikaal Zulfiqar’s Na Band Na Baraati performed average at the box-office.

In a nutshell, the Eid week has been reportedly very disappointing for Pakistani movies and it is about time our entertainment fraternity admits the reality!

Armeena Rana Khan Roasts Sheikh Rasheed for Offensive Remarks!

While the rest remain mum on the matter, supermodel and rising actress, Sadaf Kanwal seems to be brutally honest about the deplorable box-office business on Eid.

Bad angle but the hair was looking too fabulous 💁‍♀️✨

A post shared by Sadaf Kanwal (@sadafkanwal) on

Taking to Facebook, the haseena exposed the harsh truth that it has been the worst three days for all the Pakistani releases.

Quick to negate her was Sonya Hussyn who appeared pretty burnt by Sadaf’s comments.

#love is the message 💞 #azaadi #azaadigirl #sonyahussyn

A post shared by Sonya Hussyn (@sonyahussyn) on

Teefa in Trouble: Maya Ali & Ali Zafar’s Dance Number Has Us All Excited!

In a fiery reply, Sonya hit back at the supermodel and reasoned why the rest of movies appear to be lagging behind.

Also, she defended her own movie ‘Azaadi’, claiming that it has been successful in being a sold out in cinemas.

But Sadaf Kanwal hit the nail on the head with her powerful reply to Sadaf. While Sonya Hussyn is yet to react to Sadaf’s statement, a large number of people agreed with the model.

However, social media is also making sure they remind Sadaf of her average acting in Balu Mahi and an unimpressive item number in Na Maloom Afraad 2.

What is your opinion on the matter? Do you agree with Sadaf Kanwal? Let us know in the comments below.

Teefa in Trouble: Maya Ali & Ali Zafar’s Dance Number Has Us All Excited!

Teefa in Trouble’s power-packed trailer surely blew us all away!

Giving us a much-needed sneak peek to the actual story of this upcoming rom-com, the promo received a warm response from fans and critics!

Armeena Rana Khan Roasts Sheikh Rasheed for Offensive Remarks!

All set to hit the screens on July 20, Ali Zafar and Maya Ali’s debut flick seems ready to make it BIG in cinemas. So much so, the dazzling duo has kickstarted their promotions and are making their followers all the more hooked to the action-packed saga.

Just yesterday in a casual Twitter banter, the Teefa in Trouble stars dropped a MAJOR hint about what is next to come for their fans!

After the trailer, the TNT makers will be rolling out a dance number and we bet it will be super LIT!

Seems like Ali and Maya will be ditching the trend of cliched item numbers!

Maya Ali is super determined NOT to perform an item number!

We bet that the track will be the biggest NON-item number Pakistan has ever seen!

Is Chan Ve the name of the track? We are guessing so.

The idea of both the superstars showing off their amazing dance skills is making us super excited for the track.

Let’s take a quick throwback to Ali and Maya’s romantic couple waltz back at Lux Style Awards 2017.

The popular pair literally set the stage on fire as they swayed to the passionate track ‘Ishq’

Aren’t these two dance goals?

Maya has wowed us with her insane dance moves multiple times at various weddings!

But we think Ali Zafar has got to set up his game!

Sadaf Kanwal & Sonya Hussyn Had a Fierce Clash Over Pakistani Movies!

Well, let’s see their spellbinding magic in the upcoming Teefa in Trouble dance track! We are sure they are going to rock all over again.

In-form Ronaldo Looms for Morocco, Spain Face Iran

Cristiano Ronaldo will hone in on Morocco on Wednesday after his stunning hat-trick in Portugal’s World Cup opener, while 2010 winners Spain play Iran in Group B.

The five-time world player of the year bagged a sublime treble against Spain in the heat of Sochi on Friday in Russia 2018’s stand-out match so far, the 51st of his glittering career.

“I’m very happy, it’s a nice personal record to have, one more in my career,” Ronaldo said on Tuesday.

“For me the most important thing is to emphasise what the team did against one of the favourites to win this World Cup.”

Spain head to Kazan to face Iran still counting the cost of a chaotic run-up to the tournament during which Julen Lopetegui was sensationally sacked just two days before they opened their campaign.

Former international defender Fernando Hierro is now at the helm but barely a week into the tournament Spain — expected to join Brazil, Germany and France in the latter stages — have endured more drama than they would have wanted or expected.

“It’s a crucial match that will determine our World Cup destiny,” said midfielder Isco of the Iran showdown.

“We want to score from the opening minute, even though that won’t be easy.”

Iran kicked off their campaign with a 1-0 win against Morocco, thanks to a late own goal by Aziz Bouhaddouz, piling the pressure on Spain at Kazan Arena on Wednesday.

Iran sit top of the pile as the only Group B team with a win so far, an achievement that sparked widespread celebrations in the streets of Tehran and elsewhere throughout the Islamic republic.

Coach Carlos Queiroz concedes Iran now face one of the biggest challenges in their World Cup history, but maintains they can “make the impossible possible”.

“If the game against Morocco was the World Cup final for us, the game against Spain will be the Universe Cup final,” said the former Real Madrid coach.

Iran has never beaten a European side at a World Cup — their only previous victory was a 2-1 win over the United States in France in 1998.

Morocco needs to bounce back from their agonising defeat against Iran but Portugal and Ronaldo, in particular, pose Herve Renard’s men a monumental challenge at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium.

“We lost a battle but we haven’t lost the war. We’re not dead,” said midfielder Faycal Fajr, one of 17 foreign-born players in Morocco’s squad.

– 100 up for Suarez –

Uruguay take on Saudi Arabia in Wednesday’s other game, with forward Luis Suarez set to mark his 100th appearance for the Celeste in the Group A clash in Rostov-on-Don.

The Barcelona man has exited the last two World Cups in disgrace after being sent off for a goal-line handball against Ghana and he infamously sank his teeth into Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini in 2014.

The game itself should be straightforward for Uruguay, who won their opener 1-0 against a Mohamed Salah-less Egypt, as they face a Saudi Arabia team hammered 5-0 by hosts Russia in the tournament’s curtain-raiser.

The Saudis’ preparations were jolted by a mid-air mishap on Monday when the plane carrying them to Rostov suffered a fire in one of its engines.

The aircraft landed safely after what one of the Saudi players called a “simple malfunction”.

Hosts Russia stand on the verge of the knockout stages after Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Egypt in Saint Petersburg.

After a goalless first half, Ahmed Fathi scored an own goal before Denis Cheryshev struck and Artem Dzyuba added a third. Salah scored a consolation penalty late on but it was not enough for the Pharaohs.

Earlier, Senegal secured a first win for an African nation at this tournament, benefiting from a terrible error from Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny to beat Poland 2-1 in Moscow.

Tuesday’s other Group H clash saw Japan come out surprise winners against 10-man Colombia after midfielder Carlos Sanchez received the tournament’s first red card for a handball minutes into the game.

Russia Beat Egypt to Close in on World Cup Last 16!

Host nation Russia have one foot in the last 16 of the World Cup after a resounding 3-1 win over Egypt on Tuesday despite the return from injury of Mohamed Salah.

After a tight first half in a rain-drenched Saint Petersburg, Egypt captain Ahmed Fathy scored an own goal before goals from Denis Cheryshev and Artem Dzyuba sealed a win that raises Russian hopes of defying pre-tournament expectations that they would struggle to qualify from their group.

Salah did score Egypt’s first goal at a World Cup since 1990 with a penalty after he had been hauled down 17 minutes from time, but it was too late to regain the momentum for the disappointing Pharaohs.

Russia will be guaranteed a place in the last 16 and Egypt eliminated unless Saudi Arabia beat Uruguay on Wednesday.

Salah was making his first appearance since injuring his left shoulder when falling heavily after being dragged to the ground by Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos in the Champions League final just over three weeks ago.

Russia thrashed a poor Saudi Arabia team 5-0 in the tournament opener last week, but Egypt had been expected to pose a stiffer challenge.

But after Fathi put into his own net, an inspired Cheryshev slotted in his third goal of the tournament, putting him equal with Cristiano Ronaldo in the top scorers’ chart.

Dzyuba’s third goal sent the 65,000-capacity crowd into raptures.

– Japan milestone –

Japan made history in the early game, beating 10-man Colombia 2-1 to become the first Asian side to conquer a South American team at a World Cup.

The complexion of the game was changed radically when Colombia’s Carlos Sanchez was shown the first red card of Russia 2018 for handball in the opening minutes of the contest.

Shinji Kagawa scored from the penalty spot and although Juan Quintero equalised late in the first half, Japan made their superior numbers count, with Yuya Osako heading a winner in the 73rd minute.

Japan’s build-up to Russia has been tumultuous after coach Vahid Halilhodzic was sacked in April and replaced by Akira Nishino, despite steering the team to the finals.

But they will be delighted to start their Russian campaign with a victory after failing to notch a single win in Brazil four years ago — including a painful 4-1 defeat at the hands of Colombia.

“I said at half-time that if we can keep the ball moving, we can deprive the Colombia players of their stamina,” said Nishino.

“Our players were aggressive from the start and I think that worked very well for us. This is just one win and three points, so we will save our celebration.”

– Senegal pip Poland –

In the other Group H clash on Tuesday, Senegal recorded the first African win at this World Cup when they beat Poland 2-1, thanks to a deflected Thiago Cionek own goal and a terrible error by Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, which resulted in a goal for man-of-the-match Mbaye Niang.

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak got Poland back in the game with an 86th-minute header but Senegal hung on at Moscow’s Spartak Stadium.

In a match billed as a straight fight between Robert Lewandowski and Sadio Mane, neither scored but Liverpool striker Mane set up Idrissa Gueye for the shot that took a wicked deflection off Cionek, leaving Szczesny totally wrong-footed in the Polish goal for Senegal’s opener on 37 minutes.

Senegal coach Aliou Cisse said the whole of Africa was closely monitoring the progress of Senegal.

“Senegal today represents the whole of the African continent,” he said.

“Of course we represent our country but I can also guarantee that the whole of Africa is supporting us. I’m getting phone calls from everywhere.”

FIFA World Cup 2018: Russians, Foreigners Seek Love in Russia!

During an afternoon at a Moscow park, Argentina fan Augustin Otelo is counting not the number of goals his team has scored in the World Cup but the number of phone numbers he has collected from Russian girls.

“Four!” boasts the 26-year-old engineer dressed in his country’s blue and white stripes as he competes with his friends to see who can get the most phone numbers.

Otelo said he hopes his “exotic factor” will help him “find love” in the Russian capital.

“We don’t know what to do between matches, so we thought we could try to get to know the Russian people better,” he said.

The Argentinians are flicking through selfies on their phones of Russian girls posing on the popular dating app Tinder.

“There’s a lot of competition because of the number of men who have come to Russia for the World Cup,” Otelo said.

“And very few girls speak English or Spanish.”

But the language barrier has not stopped Russians and thousands of foreign football fans from mixing on the streets of Moscow, despite conflicting messages to Russia’s female population from politicians.

On the eve of the World Cup, Communist lawmaker Tamara Pletneva warned Russian women that flings with visiting football fans could leave them raising children “of another race” alone.

“We should be giving birth to our own children,” said Pletneva, who leads the lower house of parliament’s family, women and children committee.

Another Russian MP, Mikhail Degtyaryov from the ultra-nationalist LDPR party, took the opposite view.

“The more love stories we have connected to the World Cup… the more children are born, the better,” he said.

The Kremlin said World Cup romances are personal choices.

“Russian women can probably manage their own affairs. They are the best women in the world,” Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

– ‘Like holiday romances’ –

One 25-year-old woman, who gave her name as Maria S., said she had been “impatiently” waiting for the World Cup because it “multiplies opportunities to meet with foreigners.”

“That is probably its main advantage,” said the brunette, who took English classes ahead of the games.

Her friend, Lyubov, who speaks three languages aside from Russian fluently, called the World Cup an “asset”.

“Usually I have two dates a week and now I have four. I have to say no to some,” the young woman said, delighted.

Neither of the two friends has any illusions about the fact that their dates will return to their home countries when the World Cup ends.

“It’s a bit like holiday romances, except that we will stay here,” regrets Lyubov.

Aside from her romantic endeavours, Maria has tasked herself with another mission: to “change Russia’s image.”

“Tourists come here with cliches in their heads. I think they expect to see easy women dressed provocatively. I would like to change this cliche,” the art student said.

In May, the Argentinian Football Association published a manual offering tips on “how to get lucky with a Russian girl.” It was widely condemned as sexist and the federation’s head later apologised for it.

– ‘Flirt zone’ –

Moscow’s World Cup fan zone, built on the doorstep of the city’s iconic main university, has become a “flirt zone,” joked the free Russian paper Metro.

When a Brazil fan kissed the paper’s young correspondent on the cheek, it said, his compatriot joked: “It’s OK: he wants you in his bed like everyone else.”

For older Russians, such romances are reminiscent of other major international events in Moscow, such as the 1980 Olympic Games hosted by the USSR during the Cold War.

Pletneva, the Communist lawmaker, said the Games were followed by an uptick of births of mixed race children which she called “a sad example.”

Yelena, 51, remembers the 1985 International Youth Festival in Moscow, when she fell in love with Giorgos, a young Greek man.

“We were 19, we spent three days together and then he left. We wrote to each other for several months: I had to ask my friend to translate his letters from English. Then we stopped,” she remembers.

“Today there are new technologies, it’s not the USSR anymore and it is easy to travel,” she said.

“The young people who meet each other at the World Cup can stay together.”

Azaadi Movie Review: When Boredom Takes Over Freedom

azaadi movie review

This Eid Pakistani film Azaadi was released to mark the return of Pervez Malik Films; the film had a good opening in most of the cinemas especially single screen cinemas and launched Moammar Rana as the action hero he once was.

However, the film could have done much better had the makers delayed it and released it on a patriotic day, maybe Independence Day or Kashmir Day, because there were as many as 3 more films releasing the same day, denting each other’s business big time.

7 Din Mohabbat In Movie Review: 7 Reasons to Watch this Eid Comedy

Synopsis

Azad (Moammar Rana) becomes a freedom fighter after his family went through an ordeal at the hands of the Indian Armed Forces in Indian Occupied Kashmir.

Unknown to him, his estranged wife Zara (Sonya Hussyn) visits Srinagar to make him sign their divorce papers.

On one hand, Azad is fighting for freedom of his Kashmiri brethren whereas, on the other, he has to convince his wife that he is still the man she fell in love with.

Does he manage to win back the ‘journalist’ from England or does the fight for freedom make them go apart; watch Azaadi for more.

Analysis

The film has two sides – the good one and the bad one. On the good side, there is Nadeem Baig who portrays one of the most powerful roles of his career; he plays a Kashmiri leader who loses everything for a cause and has the best lines in the screenplay.

Moammar Rana as the freedom fighter is believable as well, although, in some of the scenes, he is over-the-top, 90s style.

Then there are things that could have been avoided, Sonya Hussyn didn’t look like a journalist that too from England and had an unlimited supply of clothes, making her more believable as a model.

Rishi Kapoor Gives a Shout Out to Jawed Sheikh for “Wajood”

There are freedom fighters who speak in thick Punjabi accent but portray Kashmiri freedom fighter; Indians are shown to be rapists who can’t fire their gun, can’t pick an enemy in their own backyard, and speak in a language that isn’t Urdu.

Also, the culture Kashmiris follow resembles our own than that of Kashmiri people which was a major letdown.

Verdict 2.5/5

The film’s worst part is the poorly executed action sequences which should have been the most powerful aspect; Ben Jasper’s cinematography is what saves the film from destruction but when you have below average stunts, poor effects and a love affair straight from the 90s, there is hardly anything the writer, director or the actors could do.

Apart from Nadeem Baig and Moammar Rana, none of the actors including the veteran Aurangzeb could do justice to their characters; Sonya Hussyn needs to shed off her Priyanka Chopra image if she wants to make it big in films otherwise she will be stuck on TV.

Had the film got better fighting sequences, believable stunts, and menacing antagonists, it would have raised the bar for patriotic films. One hopes director Imran Malik’s next will be a better-prepared film and the fans of his late father Pervez Malik want him to carry his legacy forward.

Barrett Out, Williams in for Injury-Hit All Blacks

Injured All Blacks fly-half Beauden Barrett has been ruled out of Saturday’s third Test against France in Dunedin, while centre Sonny Bill Williams is in line for his first appearance of the series.

Assistant coach Ian Foster said Tuesday that neither Barrett nor loose forward Vaea Fifita, who also received a head knock in the All Blacks’ 26-11 win in the second Test last weekend, would be considered.

Flanker Liam Squire, who suffered a shoulder injury, was listed as an “unlikely” starter.

But on the positive side Williams is in the frame after missing the first two Tests following knee surgery.

Foster said the selectors had held a “lively” conversation about the makeup of the dead rubber third Test side which will be released on Thursday.

“But we go in with a rough sketch as a selection group and we basically have an idea of where we are going. This has been a good one, sorting this one (team) out,” he said.

Playmaker Barrett was taken from the field in the 12th minute of the first Test and failed a concussion test after crashing head first to the ground following a mid-air collision with France fullback Benjamin Fall.

Fall was sent off although a judicial panel later cleared him and erased the red card from his record, ruling his actions were neither deliberate nor reckless.

Williams, meanwhile, was likely to be in the third Test line-up after making a quicker-than-expected recovery and being told at a meeting with coaches and medical staff that the surgery was a success.

“The coach turned to the doctor and said ‘well, is he a chance of playing in the third Test, or being available for selection?’ And the doc said ‘yeah, but he has to come into camp’,” Williams said.

“So he looked at me and said ‘you’re in camp’.”
