90,000 Pakistanis Get Overseas jobs in first 40 days of 2020

Job

Around 90,000 Pakistani’s overseas have been facilitated by The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development with jobs in multiple fields of the international labor market in the first 40 days of 2020.

A senior officer in the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BEOE) said, “This is a good start for ‘2020’ and it seems that we will accomplish the target of 750,000 set for the current year.”

He further added, “The foreign remittances, sent by Pakistani expatriates, were a potential source of boosting the country’s forex reserve (FER).”

The foreign remittances had reached $11.4 billion during the first half of 2019 – 2020 as per the Citing the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) quoted by the officer.

However, he anticipates that for the current financial year, the government might as well reach the target of $24 billion.

The government had planned extensively to create a legal channel for Pakistani expatriates to send money to their homes which will eventually boost the flow of foreign remittances with in the country.

The government plans to launch the initiative as soon as possible preferably before the holy month of Ramazan because remittances from Pakistani expatriates flow heavily on  Eid-ul-Fitr.

Under the initiative, a card will be issued to the emigrants which will provide them with multiple incentives such as permission to bring in two mobile phones, allowance of the extra quantity of luggage, and concession on air tickets.

WhatsApp’s ‘Delete for Everyone’: 7 Things You Should Know Before Using this Feature!

Delete for Everyone

WhatsApp users rejoiced when the ‘Delete for Everyone’ feature was first announced.

This feature allows you to delete any message which may want to take back in the group and private chats.

No doubt, this is one of the most-wanted and very useful features the social media platform has.

However, there is more to it than meets the eyes. There are still many things WhatsApp users need to know about this beloved feature!

Here are 7 must-knows of the Delete for Everyone feature:

1. Sender and Recipient Must be Using the Latest Version of WhatsApp

Often, people forget to update their applications. Now where there are many benefits of updates, there are also some downsides. But in this case, both users must be using the latest WhatsApp version in order to be successful in using the feature.

2. iPhone Users May Still Have Images/Videos Saved in Device After Message Has Been Deleted!

Call it a fluke, but iPhone users may want to take extra precaution while sending material on WhatsApp as even though the message may be deleted, pictures and videos are likely to stay.

HMD Global – The Home of Nokia Phone Cancels Participation at MWC 2020 Barcelona

3. Photos/Videos are Deleted from Gallery and Chat for Android Users

The Delete for Everyone feature works sightly different for Andoird users. The content saved to the gallery is deleted when the message is erased from the chat.

4. There is a Loop-Hole!

Well, it’s really sad this one but recipients can see your messages before you realize what you have sent. Despite them viewing the message, it can be deleted, but it’d probably be too late by then.

5. You are Not Notified if Message was NOT Deleted Successfully

Another downside to this feature is that you will never be notified if this feature was unsuccessful.

6. The Recipient Gets Alerted When you Delete Something

The person on the other end will always know what you did and may haunt you for it!

7. You only have 1 Hour to Delete the Message(s) Before its too Late!

Senders will only get 1-hour to realize and fix their mistake(s).

Happy WhatsApping!

Solis Festival Islamabad, Shut Down Midway After Being Vandalized by Crashers

Solis Festival

On February 15, crashers vandalized Solis Music and Arts Festival in  Islamabad.

The fourth edition of the EDM festival, Solis was shut down around 9:30 instead of 12:00 when crashers trashed the place and injured 100’s in the process.

It took quite some time for the music scene to return back to Pakistan after security concerns were resolved as international DJs made their way back to participate at the events.

The organizers of the event received heavy criticism on social media. They took it to their official Instagram account to express their concern regarding the mishap:

For the 4th edition of Solis Festival, we were really excited to bring the festival back to home grounds- Islamabad. We had to make the difficult decision to stop the event due to hundreds of individuals who fought their way through with fake tickets. This spoiled the night for everyone else that purchased authorized tickets. As always, security and safety is at the utmost priority for our festival attendees, vendors, sponsors and artists. We want all our fans to feel safe and happy at every show, and because of the actions of these individuals we weren’t able to do so. We will be issuing a further statement at a later time, but for now want to thank our fans who purchased real tickets and came to genuinely enjoy the event.

Gatecrashers trashed the place, leading the stage and enclosures to collapse. The organizers of the event shut off the lights and music in an effort to get people to leave the venue but it seemed as if nothing was working.

DEAR ISLAMABAD What was borne from a love of music and wanting to share a piece of the international music world to Pakistan, Solis provided entertainment that didn’t exist and became a community based on peace and unity, bringing together homegrown businesses that supported our economy and put Pakistan on the map. Despite all the challenges of putting together such an experience in Pakistan (the things you don’t see behind the scenes like finding the right speakers, pyro, the security gates that need to be built from scratch, to convincing our artists that Pakistan is indeed safe and beautiful), we made it happen. Not once, not even 3 times in 2019, but for the 4th time yesterday in Islamabad till the incident hours after doors opened. We chose the venue and our security based on the number of tickets sold and made arrangements based on this. We warned against fake tickets on numerous occasions. However, we underestimated the sheer volume of thousands of “fake tickets” that were being sold illegally. These people were denied entry, but broke our barricades and forced themselves in, climbing on VIP platforms which couldn’t take the weight and destroyed our stage putting everyone’s safety at risk. To those that believed in us and came to genuinely enjoy the show, we are deeply sorry that this experience was ruined by others. We know that you came far and wide and we know how much you were looking forward to this event as we were too. For you, our true fans, we absolutely could not put your safety and security at risk and had to stop the event. What some of you didn’t see was the further damage these individuals caused after we shut down the event. Crores Of damage have set us back even further. WE are a community. WE are responsible for changing mindsets- together! While we will hold on Solis indefinitely in Islamabad, we will NOT let this define us. We will LEARN and PERSEVERE and keep giving Pakistan an experience they haven’t had before, much like we have done in the past. We will NOT let the actions of a few decide for the rest of us. We will be back.

A post shared by Solis Music & Arts Festival (@solisfestival) on

Earlier, the festival did great in the city of lights. Here’s to hoping the festival will return back with better management.

The lineup for the show in Islamabad featured Julian Jordan, FDVM, Mike Williams, Turhan James, and Dannic.

Pakistan Film Industry In Crisis, Expansion Into Markets “Not Being Taken Seriously By The Government” – PFPA

We’ve all seen Pakistani cinema evolve tremendously over the last couple of years. However, that’s not the case anymore. There’s been a major downfall in the production of Pakistani films.

On Saturday, February 15 2020, following the Turkish President’s visit to Pakistan, Pakistan Film Producers Association (PFPA) issued a press release expressing deep concern regarding the crisis being faced by the Pakistan film industry. It is currently experiencing the worst time of its existence.

Dawn

The PFPA further mentioned that last year, 20 Pakistani movies were released and not a single film has been released so far this year. Along side the production, number of screens from the cinemas have also been reduced due to the lack of audience which was mainly because of Indian films.

Here’s the official press release issued by Pakistan Film Producers Association

Furthermore, the press release also compared ties between India and China and how things have escalated between the two nations whereas, Pakistan and China haven’t made any progress despite having cordial relations.

It also stated that their proposal of expanding the industry and cinema with counterpart countries such as China, South Korea, Iran, Bangladesh and Turkey has not been taken seriously by the government.

Emphasizing more on the recent visit of President of Turkey, it stated that Pakistan film industry has been availing outdoor shooting in Turkey for years bringing in success. Despite promoting Turkey in films and dramas, their recommendation was not brought into consideration during Turkish president’s recent visit.

What do you think of the current situation? Do you think the government would look into this matter and finally help PFPA with the expansion of Pakistani film industry? Let us know in the comments below.

Engro & Shell Sign Agreement For Access to Engro Lengy’s Expanded Import Terminal Capacity

During a speech at the Pakistan Energy Reform conference in Islamabad today the CEO of Engro Elengy Terminal Ltd (EETL) Jahangir Piracha announced the signature of heads of agreement (HOA) with Excelerate and with Shell for the expansion of the Elengy Terminal in Port Qasim.

The EETL terminal is a joint venture between Engro Corporation and Royal Vopak of the Netherlands.

It is Pakistan’s first floating LNG import terminal, which began operations in March 2015 and is recognized as the most utilized FSRU worldwide.

It currently fulfills as much as 15 percent of Pakistan’s daily natural gas requirements. EETL has handled over 280 LNG cargoes to date.

The current FSRU will be replaced by a new build vessel before the winters of 2020, increasing EETL’s send-out capability by over 150 mmscfd.

The HOA signed gives Shell access rights to the added capacity and enables Shell to bring in LNG imports from its global portfolio of competitive and reliable supply to help meet Pakistan’s growing demand for natural gas.

Speaking at the conference, Marcus Hector, General Manager of LNG Market Development Shell, said “We believe that the supply of natural gas, the cleanest-burning fossil fuel, can help meet Pakistan’s growing energy needs. With this agreement, we are excited to be able to bring more reliable LNG into the country from our leading global supply portfolio and look forward to continued support from the government, regulator and pipeline company to enable us to do so.”

Today, Pakistan is amongst the fastest growing LNG importers globally, with last year’s imports increasing by over 14% to help overcome energy shortages.

Pakistan and Turkey Sign Two Memorandums

On Thursday, two memorandums of understandings were finalized between Pakistan and Turkey. The MoUs will mobilize the potential for increasing trade and investment in the region which has not been touched as yet.

One of the main advantages of MoUs is the boost Pakistan’s economic sector will receive, once the engagement takes place.

Meeting with the Joint Working Group (JWG) on Trade and Investment took place during the two-day visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the 13th and 14th of February where an understanding was made.

Both Pakistan and Turkey will further encourage their businessmen to co-operate in the field of e-commerce and to establish joint upcoming ventures in the industrial sector.

Flags

Pakistan can use some help from Turkey in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and other transit routes as Turkey is known to have expertise in shipping, road infrastructure network and export processing zones.

Other than that, both the countries have an immense amount of potential to explore possibilities of smart investment “in the defense industry, food processing, and packing, automotive industry and auto parts, household appliances, construction material, textiles, leather machinery, and finished products, sports goods, and surgical instruments.”

Back in the year 2004, the deliberations between the two countries began but failed to conclude a free trade agreement despite several rounds.
