Pakistan’s Automotive Industry to Export Auto Parts

Given the crisis currently, Pakistan and its automotive industry are going through; exporting auto parts is a blessing in disguise.

Pakistan’s AuVitronics Limited, a House of Habib company is ready to export car parts to Toyota Motors Vietnam (TMV).

Reportedly, Indus Motors Company (IMC) had put through a request to Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) to allow AuVitronics to supply its Absorber FR Bumpers to TMV.

This is because the Toyota Corolla, which is currently being assembled in Vietnam, is the same unit that is presently being sold in Pakistan.

Moreover, it is being said that the part will be installed towards the rear-end on the front bumper cover in the Corolla.

This suggestion was approved after several quality tests and rigorous process by TMC. According to CEO of IMC Ali Asghar Jamali:

“IMC has been striving for the development of the auto sector for the last thirty years. We have fulfilled our commitment to the country and promoted the auto and engineering industry in Pakistan and today we are achieving new successes.”

Now that the deal has locked, this means that AuVitronics Limited has now become a part of the global supply chain for Toyota. Furthermore, IMC will further develop the industrial base of the country, the CEO added.
According to Jamali, IMC has, by far, helped local vendors sign at least 30 technical assistance agreements with foreign companies.

On the other hand CEO of AuVitronics Limited, Mr. Syed Abbas-ul-Hussaini said:

“It is a great pleasure for Pakistan to become part of the global supply of Toyota and it is the beginning of a new era for the local auto industry as it has opened new export markets for the sector”.

30th April 2020:

The Indus Motor Company, aka Toyota Pakistan, has announced to provide short-term interest-free emergency loans to all vendors.

This decision will allow the vendors to have a semblance of liquidity during this hard lockdown.

Reportedly, these loans will be available starting from May 2020. Pakistan’s automotive industry has been one of the most-hit industries. The sector was already facing a difficult time before the novel coronavirus made things worse.

At such a difficult time, these loans that IMC intends to carry out will help many businesses stay alive.

Mashood Khan, the ex-chairman of PAAPAM; Director of Mehran Enterprise (parts manufacturer) & vendor of IMC, said:

We highly appreciate the financial support given to the vendors. Indeed we face an acute financial crunch which will hopefully be resolved by this step of management.

He further added that they had approached the government for relief; however, their plea has gone unanswered.

We hope other OEM including Chinese OEM assemblers will take the same step to support the vendors and urged the vendors to not exploit the offer rather respects it. -Khan added

The coronavirus pandemic has caused massive chaos all around the world.

From an unforeseen number of deaths to an unstable economic crisis, the virus has done it all.

As the world desperately tries to find a vaccine for the virus, Pakistan is opting for plasma therapy.

In May, the government of Pakistan permitted the clinical trial of passive immunization.

Soon, doctors and researchers became successful in plasma therapy proved to be successful.

“Alhamdulillah, (by the grace of God), the first coronavirus patient treated through passive immunization has recovered and discharged from the hospital,” Dr. Tahir Shamis, head of the National Institute of Blood Diseases, told Anadolu Agency.

The doctor further said that other patients are also going through the trial and that the aim is to cure 350 patients with this method.

What is Plasma Therapy?

Plasma therapy is an experimental treatment that some doctors are using to treat Covid-19 patients.

How Does it Work?

Recovered patients develop antibodies in their body, which is a protein that the body uses to fight off infections. Researchers use those antibodies from recovered patients and donate them to improving patients to help them fight the virus.

“Let me make it very clear that it’s a successful clinical trial only. We cannot declare it an approved treatment for the novel virus at this stage,” said Shamsi, the head of the team of hematologists who are in charge of the clinical trials.

Where can Treated Patients Donate Their Plasma?

Dr. Zafar Mirza, the State Minister of Health of Pakistan, has shared an official tweet from his account with a list of centers where plasma can be donated.

He tweets:

Govt allowed sometime ago a clinical trial on plasma therapy, which is yielding encouraging results according to the investigators. COVID-19 recovered patients can donate plasma at the following centers:

  1. Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Islamabad
  2. Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU), Rawalpindi
  3. Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC), Peshawar
  4. Khwaja Safdar Medical College Hospital (KSMCH), Sialkot
  5. University of Health Sciences (UHS), Lahore
  6. Pakistan Kidney Liver Institute (PKLI), Lahore
  7. Regional Blood Center (RBS), Sukkur
  8. People’s University of Medical & Health Sciences (PUMHS), Nawabshah

In another tweet, Dr. Mirza mentions that:

Clinical Trials are being undertaken by the National Institute of Blood Disease & Bone Marrow, Karachi. Recovered patients from Karachi can donate plasma by contacting NIBD.

As of now, total coronavirus cases in Pakistan have exceeded over 113,000 with Punjab having the most cases, followed by Sindh.

In a letter to the Punjab Health Minister, the World Health Organization has suggested a further 2-week lockdown to help bring the situation under control.

We now have to see how the government wishes to proceed further with the growing number of cases.

International Islamic Univerisity is Ranked Among Top 250 Asian Varsities

10th June 2020: According to a leading news website Asia’s top 250 varsities list is out! Pakistani university, The International Islamic University, Islamabad, has been ranked among the top 250 universities.

The rank is honored by the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings. Times Higher Education is the UK’s most authoritative source of information about higher education.

The university was ranked, given the industry, teaching, research, industry income, citation, and international outlook. Other Pakistani universities also made it to the list. However, only IIU acquired the top 3rd position. Here are posts, the university ranked in:

24th Feb 2020: Stirring significant buzz over social media are the latest HEC University Rankings for 2015 and how Iqra University emerged as the highest-ranked university in the Business Education category. Another shocking news is how Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) did not make a list!

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) chairperson, Mukhtar Ahmed, has revealed the university rankings of 129 universities on Tuesday in Islamabad.

Iqra University did not make it to the top five last year, which is why it is all the more shocking as to how it gained the first rank this year. The chairman HEC explained, “The University is producing some good number of PhDs, and that is why it has been ranked the highest.”

Institute of Business Administration, Karachi, came down to third position this year while Lahore School of Economics, Lahore, retained second place.

The university rankings were finalized on a quality assurance basis in terms of faculty, research, facilities, finances, and community development. “Community development will be an integral part for universities to create the environment of social integration and affiliation,” the chairman HEC stated.

In terms of overall university rankings, Punjab University, and Quaid-e- Azam University was expected outcomes; however, NUST secured the 3rd slot instead of the 6th last year.

In the Engineering & Technology category, the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) sustained a top spot. At the same time, the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Islamabad, gained second place.

Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Topi, gained the 3rd place. Aga Khan University ranks first in medical universities, followed by the University of Health Sciences in Lahore and DOW University of Health Sciences in Karachi, respectively.

How Many Moons Do We Have?

How many moons do we have? Only one, right? WRONG!! Well, for a brilliant, albeit short, period, Earth had two moons. On February 23, 2020, a minuscule asteroid was discovered caught in orbit around Earth.

This asteroid, discovered by Theodore Pruyne and Kacper Wierzchoś at the Mount Lemmon Observatory, was named 2020 CD3. This tiny little moon is about the size of a couch with a diameter of 6ft – 11ft. But alas, all good things must come to an end, and thus, the mini-moon is no longer with us. 2020 CD3 likely left our orbit on March 7.

“There’s no question it was still in orbit around the Earth in early February, and there’s no question now that it’s in orbit around the sun,” Bill Gray, an astronomy-software developer, stated.

What is it exactly, though? Initially, astronomers thought the new moon could be a chunk of space junk; a rocket part discarded after a successful launch. To say conclusively, astronomers needed to use powerful telescopes to study the sunlight reflected off of the object, which can reveal its composition from afar.

There’s at least a small chance that it could be a piece of our moon that broke off after an impact, one astronomer hypothesized. But the latest observations suggest that the object is probably an asteroid, one of the many floating around near Earth.

“It’s just a chance occurrence,” Kat Volk, a planetary scientist at the University of Arizona’s Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, stated. “They just have to come in at the right speed and the right angle. The vast majority of things that are whizzing by the Earth do not get even temporarily captured into orbit; they just keep whizzing by”.

So how did this happen? “Small objects like 2020 CD3 are often pulled in close to the Earth,” Pruyne explained. “This happens when the Earth intersects close enough to asteroids in orbit to the Sun. If the object is close enough to the Earth, Earth’s gravity will pull on the objects, changing the object’s orbit.

Often, this only slightly changes and orbit and sends it in another direction, or pulls it close by Earth without creating an impact on our planet,” he said. “Temporarily, Captured Objects are rare, and the reason is that it takes a very precise speed and direction to be pulled in by Earth’s gravitational pull, and to not impact or fly out in a new direction,” Pruyne added.

No matter how astounding this may sound, this isn’t Earth’s first mini-moon. Since the 19th century, scientists have done genuine searches for more moons. Still, the possibility has also been the subject of several dubious non-scientific speculations, as well as several likely hoaxes. The first-ever possible temporary satellite was spotted in 1913 during the first meteor procession.

Since then, there has been a flurry of discoveries, the most notable being in 2006. Other small natural objects in orbit around the Sun may enter the realm around Earth for a short amount of time, becoming temporary natural satellites. To date, the only confirmed examples have been 2006 RH120 in Earth orbit during 2006 and 2007 and 2020 CD3 in Earth orbit between 2018 and 2020.

Despite receiving the threat, the page claimed that the picture is not fake as Ahsan himself shared it. To add more to this, the page also posted a photo of a woman standing on the beach, which reportedly looked like Minal Khan.

The picture had a caption that read, ‘All you need is love and the beach.’

The front of the device looks similar to the iPhone 11. A rumor that was circulating on tech-related websites said that the notch’s size might as well be significantly reduced, but no changes seem to have been made as per the latest leaks.

Rumor has it that the iPhone 12 is getting a Time of Flight (Tof) camera.

The rumors might as well be true as sources who spoke to Fast Company explained, “world-facing” 3D camera appearing on the iPhone 12 is real. The question is, what can you do with it?

The sensor is said to be made up of laser, and some software combined will mainly be able to measure the distance from itself to objects in front of it more accurately.

According to Fast Company, the 3D camera will have multiple benefits, such as better-looking portraits. “The addition of the depth camera data may create a better-looking bokeh effect by more accurately distinguishing between foreground and background layers.”

A doctor in Peshawar’s Hospital fulfilled a wish of his 71-year-old COVID-19 patient. The doctor brought his patient’s birthday cake to the intensive care unit to celebrate his big day!

The tweet featuring a short clip from the ICU is making rounds on social media as people fill their hearts with the heartwarming sight during these uncertain times.

A doctor at a hospital in Peshawar brought a cake to the ICU on the request of 71 years old corona patient to celebrate his birthday and bring a smile on his face.

The coronavirus cases have been increasing at an alarming rate in the country. There are a total of 108,317 cases of the virus, while 2,172 people have died during the ongoing pandemic.

According to Worldmeter.info, there are 7,201,567 coronavirus cases in the world, while 408,794 have died due to the virus. Doctors around the world have been showing kindness to patients of COVID-19 in ICU’s as it is not sure if the patient will survive or not.

In Wuhan, where the virus is originally from, a doctor took his 87-year-old patient out for sunset to enjoy together.

Wuhan Uni hospital. A twenty-something doctor from Shanghai was taking an 87-year-old patient who’d been hospitalized for a month to make a CT scan. He asked if he wanted to stop to watch the sunset. He said yes. They enjoyed the moment together.

Medical teams at the Hospital, del Mar in Barcelona, Spain have been photographed wheeling people to the beach. The activity is now a part of a program designed to humanize intensive care units.

Eating Breakfast Can Boost Activity Levels: New Health Study

A new study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has found that eating breakfast could help obese people improve their health by prompting them to become more active.

The study, carried out by researchers at the University of Bath, UK, looked at a possible link between breakfast, body weight, and health and builds on previous research as part of the three-year BBSRC-funded’ Bath Breakfast Project’.

In this new study, researchers from the University’s Department for Health split 23 participants aged 21- 60 into two groups, ‘breakfasting’ and ‘fasting’.

The researchers asked the breakfasting group to eat at least 700 calories by 11 am for six weeks. The group could choose whatever they wanted to eat, but the first half of the calories had to be consumed within two hours of the participant waking up.

The fasting group, however, could not consume anything except water until at least midday.

The team found that during the day both groups consumed a similar amount of calories overall, with those who fasted compensating for the lack of morning calories by eating more later in the day, whereas the breakfasting group ate less; however, the team also found that the breakfasting groups participated in more physical activity in the mornings.

As increasing levels of physical activity is a crucial way to improve health, the team believe their results could be significant for increasing exercise levels in sedentary individuals.

Commenting on the findings, lead researcher Dr. James Betts said that despite the program’s studies showing the possible health effects of eating breakfast,” ‘how important’ breakfast is still really depends on the individual and their own personal goals. For example, if weight loss is the key there is little to suggest that just having breakfast or skipping it will matter. However, based on other markers of a healthy lifestyle, like being more active or controlling blood sugar levels, then there’s evidence that breakfast may help.”

Lead author on the study, Dr. Enhad Chowdhury, also cautioned that “It is important to bear in mind that not everybody responds in the same way to breakfast and that not all breakfasts are equal. The effects of a sugary cereal compared to a high protein breakfast are likely to be quite different.”

As the participants in this study were allowed to choose their breakfasts, the team now wants to research further the effects of different breakfasts, which they hope will provide them with more information to make recommendations about what types of breakfast could be best for health.

Campaign for Italian luxury brand Dolce & Gabbana showed a Chinese model struggling to eat spaghetti and pizza with chopsticks. The ad shows how mindless Chinese can be, which is why the brand faced backlash.

Pepsi ditched the commercial two days later and regretted it. “Pepsi was trying to project a global message of unity, peace, and understanding,” the company said in a statement. “We missed the mark.”

4. Dove

Dove, the soap brand owned by Anglo-Dutch consumer-goods giant Unilever, sked forgiveness last year after posting a social-media advertisement that some viewers described as racist. The ad displayed a black woman removing her T-shirt to reveal a similarly clad white woman, which some viewers saw as a suggestion that being white was cleaner than being black.
Dove had formerly won praise for running commercials featuring ordinary-looking models of various ages, body shapes, and ethnic backgrounds.

5. Nivea

The skin-care brand, owned by Germany’s Beiersdorf AG, pulled a Facebook ad in the Middle East previous year that comprised the text “white is purity,” across the back of a woman in a bathrobe.

The spot was aimed to promote the company’s unnoticed deodorant range but was widely shared on social media by racist groups. The firm apologized, saying the ad was “misleading.”

Samsung just revealed that there would be a new flagship phone: Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Websites such as Forbes and Universal News suggest this is the phone you must get your hands on in 2020.

The latest phone is ‘Galaxy Note 20 Ultra’ certified with Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). The tech giant, Samsung confirmed the new model of Galaxy smartphones earlier with its aesthetic looks to shock the industry in 2021.

Bluetooth Special Interest Group is a standard company to keep track of the latest development of licensing and Bluetooth standards.

Pricing 

The price tag of note S20 is rather economical than the S20 ultra. A smart buy this year considering the pandemic. It is as if Samsung has followed the footsteps of Apple by launching iPhone SE, given that purchasing power is declining.

Rumour has it that a Samsung Electronics staff member cited that the company plans to launch the Galaxy Note 20 series by August 5th.

As per the tradition, the company will refresh its Galaxy note line up this August too.

It also revealed that women commit fewer driving offenses and are more likely to obey the laws, including getting into fewer car accidents. It concluded that men outnumbered women by almost 4:1! It turned out that only 21% of women broke the law while driving compared to 79% of men. The most common offenses made by men were for speeding, which was 24%, and driving without insurance 17%.

That’s not all. Almost one in four (23%) male motorists admit that they choose not to indicate when switching lanes, compared to more than one in six (17%) women. Also, men are more likely to tailgate another driver!
