This year, it will be Jalal & Son’s wedding that will get all the attention. Fun fact, the groom is Jalal & Sons’, well, son, and the bride is Master Tiles’ owner’s daughter. If you are a k-drama fan, you will know it to be one chaebol wedding.

Pakistanis furious over the expenditure

Pakistanis are furious quite more so this time than the last time. The reasons behind it are COVID and the resulting financial troubles that the entire country has been facing. COVID led to many layoffs and salary deductions. People are struggling with their needs, and NGOs have been trying to make sure that more people can get their hands on food rations. So, having an extravagant wedding in this atmosphere seems, to them, very offensive.

And not just the financial troubles, it is also about COVID. You see, the guests, none of them was wearing any masks. And under one roof, there was a vast number of people celebrating the function. Doesn’t that make it a hub of virus infection? But then again, they are rich; maybe they were told COVID was only a conspiracy of the bourgeois.

Isn’t this fury justified for did you even SEE the dessert table? It extended up to God knows how long, and oh my god did it look pretty. And we wholeheartedly stand with our fellow Pakistanis here because this was a useless waste of money. They could have spent it on an orphanage or poor people who need help.

4 Things To Do Before You Quit Your Job For Good!

First of all, don’t quit your job just because you feel like it or that things become hard for you. But of course, if it fits your plan or you just do not want to put up with it anymore and have to quit, well, then here are four things that you need to do before you submit that resignation letter.

1. Clear your tasks

You do start with a job description (JD), but it keeps changing, evolving. Most of the time, it’s not even official. So when you are planning to quit, log all the tasks down and document them. Once you have the list, have it approved with your manager/supervisor. Sometimes it helps raise your image; when the supervisor learns that exactly how many tasks you were currently handling, which were not even in your JD, they appreciate your efforts.

2. Calculate your dues

Calculate your dues, exactly how much your company needs to pay you. There are 2 to 3 components that need to be cleared, and if you don’t clear it with the HR, they might forget, and you would lose out on a significant chunk of what is truly yours. The examples of those components can be your paid leaves. Some companies give cash compensation if you have not taken vacations.

3. The Succession process

Make the succession process easy for your successor so that the company sees that it won’t be affected much. Otherwise, what happens is that the managers panic and try to negotiate with you on the pay. And aren’t we all humans? If the offer is too enticing, you might just end up staying. This is never the right choice. Why? After the initial panic, the managers start thinking that you forced their hand, and they WILL resent you. Be prepared for a ton of work that will await.

4. Plan out your future right after you quit

Do not quit if you have not planned for the immediate future. If you quit thinking that you will take a break before you apply somewhere, that is the worst thing you will be doing. If you take a break, primarily if you work in software or medical-related fields, companies will not hire you when you do get to apply for a job. They will think that you have lost touch as these fields require you to be up to date with all the new tools.

The Truth Behind Halal & Haram Edibles In Pakistan

There are a number of brands that faced defamation and scrutiny due to the sensitivity of the halal/haram issue in Pakistan. Let’s take a look at how many of these cases were blown out of proportion and whether the ingredients in these food items were, in fact, proved to be haram:

Oreo cookies

Oreos are some of the most favorite tea-time biscuits of Pakistanis, whether they’re imported or local. They’re often sold out at grocery stores like AlFatah, but that doesn’t stop us from making trips and hoarding them when they become available again.

Recently, a rumor circulated that Oreo cookies contained alcohol in them.

Since they were imported to the UAE, the packaging was also translated to Arabic. The ingredient ‘chocolate liquor’ actually meant cocoa paste but it was translated to chocolate alcohol, raising concerns surrounding the consumption of Oreo biscuits in many Muslim countries including Pakistan.

However, the government of Dubai itself clarified th e issue, releasing an official statement on their Instagram page:

“Dubai Municipality denies the rumor of the Oreo chocolate contains alcohol. The Municipality asserts that the product in the local markets is alcohol-free, but there was a mistake translating the food card into Arabic.”

The Reality of Lays Chips Controversy

This is a rumor that has been circulating for quite some time now.

Many sources speculated whether Lays is haram. However, this misconception stemmed from the fact that the brand used ‘E 631’ – a sodium salt which is present in fish, yeast extract and pig meat.

What is E631 in Lays chips?

Pepsi Co, the parent brand of Lays chips clarified that the E631 in lays was 100% halal, which was backed by SANHA, the halal food certification agency of Pakistan – leaving no doubts for consumers.

With that being said, it is understandable to see why consumers can be wary of food items, but it is also important to research ingredients from credible sources before believing false claims.

1. Limit Outdoor Activities

If you’re one to go outside to exercise, try changing your time. Most people exercise at mid-day when ground ozone levels are highest. Change your time to night-time or the early morning. Better yet, try to exercise at home until the smog subsides.

2. Filter Indoor Air

At this time and for the future, an investment in an air purifier will be best for you. Air purifiers can reduce concentrations of indoor air pollutants of either outdoor or indoor origin.

3. Try Changing Bulbs!

Did you know that regular light bulbs emit a lot of CO2? Try replacing them with a fluorescent light bulb, which eliminates approximately136 kilograms of carbon dioxide a year.

4. Be Near Clean Air

If you’re going to be staying home, then make sure your windows are closed. When you go outside, keep wearing a mask, and at home, make sure all doors are closed, and the air purifier is on.

5. Mask Yourselves

Now you will need masks for two uses: coronavirus and the smog! Masks that are made for industrial use might be more effective in the case of smog; see if you can bag one.

HEC e-portal Experiences Major Glitches – When Will It Be Fixed?

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) established its e-portal to simplify the processes a Pakistani student has to go through. Register through your CNIC, and you can have your degrees attested, or you can apply for research grants on your ongoing or upcoming researches. You can also apply for local and foreign scholarships. Foreign scholarships are vast. You can find commonwealth scholarships, Chinese, Hungarian, and many more.

But while the portal’s idea is fantastic, many problems exist with it. And considering we come from a nation where we prefer doing work on-site, not trusting technology, the e-portal glitches fuel that myth. Moreover, now that the e-portal is in place, HEC has transferred all its services to the portal.

So, if you cannot resolve the glitches of the portal, you cannot avail of the services HEC offers. And this puts the students in a troubling spot. But guess what, this is not a recent issue. The problems with HEC e-portal go back at least 3 to 4 years.

Even now, the e-portal repeatedly throws problems towards the users. And the students have to deal with them. And this sucks if you have a looming deadline for a scholarship application. So the aspiring candidates are left with no choice but to wait for another year for the process to begin yet again. One whole year wasted.

Types of problems

It seems just like elections where even dead people’s CNIC is seen voting, HEC e-portal faces similar phenomenon, not the same though. I mean not precisely dead people, but the first time users, upon registering, find their CNIC already registered.

We have already mentioned that HEC has wholly transferred all the services to the e-portal, so those in dire need of degree attestation right away experience difficulties if the server starts giving errors. When students are already worried about their education issues, they have to deal with ‘500 server error’ as well.

Who it hurts

The e-portal keeps locking itself as well. And considering they already have server issues, logging back in an ordeal in itself.

But let’s think about who this whole list of problems is affecting. It is financially needy who need the government’s support to continue or finish their studies. One example of a scholarship program in the current case is the Ehsaas Undergraduate Scholarship. The local scholarship program is designed to help people from lower SECs to get an education. However, due to the e-portal problems, most of them fail to do so. Now, they can complain and be issued with a ticket number, and HEC gets back to them. But what’s the point if the deadlines have passed?

Pakistanis Furious After Bollywood Remakes Ali Azmat’s Sayonee

Remember Junoon? Even if you don’t, remember Pakistan going crazy about Junoon reunion a while back? Well, that beloved band of Pakistan is associated with several popular Pakistani songs. And among them is a song, Sayonee, which more than Junoon’s is called Ali Azmat’s Sayonee.

Now that song has been remade by Bollywood’s Lucky Nadiadwala Morani Productions. They are the proud makers of movies like ‘Raja Hindustani’, ‘Damini’, and ‘Yarana’. The production house is remaking the song for a film with the same name. And it stars Tanmay Ssingh, Musskan Sethi, Yograj Singh, and Rahul Roy.

T-Series has given credits on the remake of Sayonee’s official poster. And they called the original melody a timeless soundtrack that after decades has the same fan following. But they probably did not expect that fan following to react negatively to it. Because the fan following is not liking the version. They believe that this one is beneath the original version.

It has been over a couple of months since these two began their feud. Being a public couple obviously has its advantages and disadvantages, and Hania Aamir and Asim Azhar are bearing the latter.

Man In Burqa, Without Pants Caught Harassing Women In Karachi

When people ask why women march when this country gives them so many rights, events like yesterday happen. Events like yesterday that tell you why women are scared of existing in the public sphere. And yes, not all men may be criminals. Several of them indeed helped the women out by saving them from that one man. However, the confidence that one man had in harassing women would affect all their future interactions with other men. So that is why women march on the streets!

The incident: harassing women

On Tuesday, a man was caught because he was harassing women while wearing a burqa but no pants! He started roaming around the Liaquatabad market in Karachi and would intentionally brush against women. Some women complained, and the shopkeepers took notice immediately. They caught the man and beat him up. The police came right after to arrest him.

During the investigation, they found that the suspect resides in the Garden area and he left his house fully dressed. He did take his wife’s burqa with him. And upon reaching the Liaquatabad market, he took off his pants and left it in the front seat of his car. He then wore the burqa and went into the crowded market.

Analyzing the Crime

The attention to detail shows that this was a pre-planned crime. He went to the market with the idea that he is superior to women, and hence, he can harass them openly in the market. And the fact that he wore the burqa also shows that he knows it’s a crime; what he intends to do is wrong, and just to evade being recognized, he hid his face.

Now yes, authorities have relayed a back story humanizing his side, and some publications will cover the man’s news with that aspect as well, but should we do that? Regardless of what was happening in his personal life, he made the wrong choice, and he should be held accountable for it. Because if someone is having a problem in their marital life, they should have the stamina to deal with it in-house. Let’s say they are the victims, then I say, get out of that relationship.

Burger King UK titles their notice ‘Order from Mc Donald’s’.And in the detailed message, they urged their consumers to order from this and more competitor brands.

Instead of endorsing the nature of competition or showcase who the rival is and who is not, Burger King decided to remind consumers to donate a helping hand to the entire food industry. Because if no one orders and people run out of business, they will close down.

While they indicated that all these restaurants employ thousands of people, they also sneaked in trolls in the message. One such example was adding the part where some of the fast foods are slow. So they said “fast or not so fast,” get it?

And at another instance, they said:

“Getting a Whopper is always best, but ordering a Big Mac is also not such a bad thing.”\

A publication got in touch with Burger King UK to get their statement on this message. According to them, this effort was initiated by Burger King France.

Meanwhile, the Global CMO of Restaurant Brands International, Fernando Machado, said:

“As countries across Europe head into lockdown mode again, we know many restaurants across the region will continue to feel the impact. We are all in this together and need to support the many restaurant’s guests know and love, and the thousands of jobs restaurants provide.”
