One of the most loved and talented singers of Pakistan, Atif Aslam was invited to AB Talks. Hosted by Anas Bukhash, AB Talks started with the topic that is on almost everyone’s agenda, life amidst the pandemic.

And that built onto leading to the conversation at hand. Atif mentioned that because he was so busy with making something of himself, he did not really get time to spend with his family. This was made possible due to his stubbornness, which he speculates comes to him because he is the youngest. Being the youngest in the family and having a huge age gap with his siblings he never bonded with anyone, including his parents although that was because of the strict environment. So when he would feel that he did not feel like he was in the right headspace he would just disconnect from the whole world.

Atif and his childhood

He said: “As a child, I’ve never been expressive so in my household, we have never hugged or cuddled each other. I knew they loved me and I loved them back but to be affectionate towards them was out of the box, maybe because I was too scared of an aggressive reaction.”

He wanted to be a cricketer but his parents took it only as a hobby. Eventually, he felt he should give up on it.

Singing came later in life. It was at 23, that his brother introduced him to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, that he became closer to singing, and to God. But when he did start singing, he did in an empty house when he was shifting. And when sang the high notes, he got scared of his own voice!

Well, it seems that when you are to achieve greatness in life, your life experience put you on that trajectory.

UK’s New COVID-19 Strain 100% Deadlier Than Other Strains

[Update]: The Covid-19 virus spread all over the world and halted all kinds of activities in most regions. It affected every single person if not medically, then emotionally, or economically. Countries went into lockdown modes for most of 2020, and just when they were looking to break free from it, mutated strains of the virus began showing up.

Research on COVID

Amongst the many variants, the researchers at Exeter University have said that the one discovered in the South of England is 100 deadlier than other strains. They got to that reasoning by comparing the death rate of the UK strain they called B.1.1.7 with other strains. Out of 55,000 infected from other strains, there were 141 deaths, meanwhile, the ones affected by the UK strain had 227 deaths out of the same population size.

The COVID condition is so devastating in the UK that there have been 4.3 million cases and more than 125,000 deaths. And the country has faced three lockdowns ever since COVID first showed up.

This strain has already spread to more than one hundred countries.

It’s More Contagious

The new coronavirus strain is more contagious because of how it has mutated. Initially, the graphics you saw of the coronavirus cell had those strange jiggly ends, right? Those ends are what attach themselves to your body cells and infect you.

After the mutation, those same rounded ends have become sharp spikes, which means it’s far easier and instantaneous for a person to become infected if they come into contact.

What’s Going On In The UK?

The United Kingdom is currently undergoing the worst it possibly can. The NHS is overburdened far beyond its capacity as thousands of cases are being reported. Several hotspots around the UK are most contaminated, such as Epping Forest, Newham, and Havering.

Moreover, Dame Margaret Hodge warned PM Boris Johnson that the “demand for oxygen is running at 100 percent or more of the supply available” at Queen’s Hospital in Romford, east London. The concern regarding this is sky-rocketing because of the record-breaking statistics. New reports have shown that the coronavirus has infected 1 in 15 people in London’s outskirts.

What’s Helping Right Now?

A national lockdown has been put into place, which is expected to control the rate of contagion. Previously as all shops, cafes, and malls were open, despite following SOPs, the chances of being infected are high. Thus, with a national lockdown as everything is closed, people are hoping they will be safer.

People are still allowed to leave their home for necessary demands. For instance, people are allowed to leave home to exercise! Grocery shops, workplaces (those that can not be virtual), and parks are still open.

How Can We Avoid This?

Pakistan is not living in any utopia as far as coronavirus cases are confirmed. Although thankfully we aren’t spiking the way the United Kingdom is, we are not declining either. Coronavirus’s second wave has enveloped many more people, claimed more lives, and obstructed more livelihoods. It now seems as if it’s slowly getting closer as close relatives start contracting it.

We may not have a national lockdown, but we do have a responsibility. Follow the SOPs: wear your masks, have your sanitizer and disinfect!

Due to the recent development made by HTC, VR has just gotten creepier. They have introduced a new facial tracker which can give accurate results on your face movement. That is creepy!

Even as we speak, the world of VR is moving forward. It is not just in gaming that this can be seen, though. However, we shall focus on the gaming wing for now. VR is one of the most sought after pieces of technology. To fully immerse yourself in the world of gaming is the dream.

Everyone wants to just dive into a storyline and play it scene by scene. It is almost as if we want ‘Oasis’ to exist, from ‘Ready Player One’. Now, it is one thing to have casual games in VR. It is another thing to have horror in them. HTC has just made VR gaming a whole lot creepier.

If you really wish to experience true horror gaming, VR is a good option. Imagine walking through a corridor in the game and something moves behind you. Public-Private Partnerships Moving The Healthcare Sector Towards Improvement

Islamabad:- Much of the success and progression of a nation rest mainly on its healthcare sector. Healthcare sector has played a major role in the economic and social development of countries all across the world. For ensuring high and inclusive accelerated growth, a coherent road map and clear policies shall be introduced to improve the healthcare landscape of a country. Pakistan, since the time of independence has struggled with its healthcare system; although it has made few notable breakthroughs. One such initiatives is trying hard to achieve Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) that are set for all developing countries.

But one can’t deny the fact that the health care system in Pakistan is beset with numerous problems, for instance, structural fragmentation, gender insensitivity, resource scarcity, inefficiency, and lack of functional specificity and accessibility. Moreover, it is faced with a precarious economic situation characterized by heavy external debt and faltering productivity, Pakistan’s room to maneuver with health sector reform is quite limited. The Public-Private Partnership (PPP) is a phenomenon that has gained popularity in recent times. In the health sector, it is defined as an institutional relationship between the government and the private sector (nonprofit organizations, for-profit private sector, to achieve a shared health-creating goal based on a mutually agreed division of labor and other resources). It provides a window of opportunities and introduces far-reaching changes in the health and social sectors.

Partnering with the private sector gives governments the ability to take advantage of the managerial efficiency, financial diligence and technical innovations.

Experience suggests that involving the private sector has made public sectors efficient and effective. It also brings stronger managerial capacity, access to new technology, and specialized skills that governments cannot afford to develop on their own. It can fill the gaps where governments are slow to respond to demands for the technologically sophisticated infrastructure and services.

The Benefits of Public-Private Partnership (P3s)

Involvement of the private sector ensures that projects and programs are subject to commercial discipline. Public-private partnerships can bring new ideas for designing programs and projects, and greater synergy between the design and operation of facilities. Partnering with the private sector gives governments the ability to take advantage of managerial efficiency, financial diligence and technical innovations. Often, private firms can avoid the bureaucratic problems that plague governments, and they can experiment with new technology and procedures. If we look at the global health scenario, P3s have been most successful in Canada, where they work well with the country’s single-payer health system. According to the Canadian Council for Public and Private Partnerships (CCPPP), P3s offer a number of advantages over traditional financing by providing viable options for other health care infrastructure in the face of limited government and philanthropic funds.

The combination of public interest with private-sector research and development, P3s have injected new life into stalled projects and delivered innovative solutions to numerous industries – especially healthcare.

The Dominance of Private over Public Sector

The private health sector has grown phenomenally in response to deficiencies in government health services. Availability of quality staff and medicines, 24/7 services, latest equipment, accessible locations, and cordial patient handling, all have earned the private sector a loyal clientele. The private sector boasts a substantial share of the blood bank, routine laboratory and X-ray services, and in some provinces, ambulance services too resultantly, the private healthcare sector is outperforming the public healthcare sector in terms of service quality and patient satisfaction.

Having said that, one can’t deny the fact that Pakistan is a developing country and most of its population is formed of lower income groups. Millions of needy patients exist that cannot afford the luxury of being treated at private health institutes. So, the question is what should be done to meet the collective health targets of the masses? The solution isn’t that complex, it is very important to create public private partnerships and with the support of benevolent philanthropists, the investments should be made more in the public owned institutions so the deserving patients can get respective treatments.

Patients’ Aid Foundation – Humanity Meets Healthcare

One of the successful examples of such a partnership is the Patients’ Aid Foundation (PAF), which is a non-profit organization, formed by a group of concerned citizens in 1990. With a vision to alleviate the burden on Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and to provide free and quality healthcare to thousands of patients walking through its gates every day. Through this private-public partnership, PAF is trying build back on the lost glory of JPMC which is struggling with the ever increasing number of patients against its limited resources. Patients’ Aid Foundation has been relentlessly serving the citizens with its motto of ‘humanity meets healthcare’ for over two decades.

PCB Targets June Window For Remaining HBL PSL 6 Matches

Lahore, 11 March 2021: Pakistan Cricket Board and the Franchises, the PSL Governing Council, are aiming to reschedule the remaining 20 HBL Pakistan Super League 6 matches in June 2021 in Karachi. This was unanimously agreed by the six franchise owners and the PCB in a virtual meeting held on Thursday afternoon and after taking into consideration all factors relating to event organisation.

June emerged as the most preferred and practical window due to Pakistan men’s national cricket team’s international commitments in March/April and late August/September.

The remaining 20 matches in June are now being planned following the men’s national cricket team’s return from Zimbabwe on 13 May and before their departure for England on 26 June.

The PCB management will now look into the operational and logistical challenges and revert to the franchise owners and stakeholders.

If you have ever wondered what the future would be like as technology becomes more and more elusive, Facebook’s latest development will inform you. Are you ready for a pair of glasses that can provide a teleporting experience?

Facebook’s Agenda

Mark Zuckerberg has said that he envisions the future as such that virtual interactions become difficult to distinguish from in-person ones. Hence, the company is developing augmented reality smart glasses to aid that vision.

“There is something magical” about the concept of presence. Zuckerberg can not apparently emphasise the importance of psychological fulfilment that a sense of presence provides. Can we blame him after sitting at homes, detached and alone for a year now?

The Futuristic Glasses

The Facebook company has shared more details about the development of this futuristic product in a blog post. They have remarked that “a lightweight, stylish pair of glasses could replace your need for a computer or smartphone.”

Cue the sci-tech films where robots can see everything in front of their eyes— that could be you soon enough with the help of Facebook!

The idea is that you could snap your fingers and be sitting in someone else room and feel as if you are together.

The Development of it

The project is currently being developed by Facebook Reality Labs, the company’s subsidiary previously known as Oculus Research. Facebook acquired Oculus as part of its $2.3 billion deal back in 2014.

Till now, Facebook has also shared some big ideas for smart glasses. It has compared the potential of the future device to the changes in computer use made by the invention of the mouse. The curve of tech development is essentially infinite.

Interesting Features of The Smart Glasses

The blog post also gave details of the potential capabilities of the currently developing glasses. For instance, the user could wear special gloves to type on a virtual keyboard. Hold on a second- imagine whipping out gloves and typing in the air while others think you’re possibly under the influence of a substance!

You can also hope for being able to mute background noise in a busy café or automatically send a call to voicemail while being engaged in an in-person conversation.

6 Things To Do After Receiving The COVID-19 Vaccine

As the coronavirus vaccines start rolling out into countries, there are safety procedures and protocols you need to be aware of. Here’s why the work isn’t finished after your first dose of vaccine and what all you need to do.

Risks Are Uncertain

There is still a plethora of research that needs to be done on the vaccines even though they have been developed in an unprecedented span. Most vaccines require two doses that are administered two/three weeks apart. Hence, you need to remain defensive until you have completed your course.

Moreover, doctors suggest that your immunity to the virus builds completely two entire weeks after your doses are complete. Don’t go out partying just yet.

What To Do After?

If you have already received the vaccine or are caring for someone who has, here are the best tips to follow.

1. Take Care of The Area

Put a cold washcloth over the area where the injection has been given. It is likely that the area will be sore and will hurt slightly. If the redness or tenderness in the area does not preside in 48 hours, consult your doctor.

2. Dress Lightly

In most cases, people have reported feeling warmer and heavier. Considering warmer temperatures are already upon us, dress in softer, lighter fabrics to feel at ease.

3. Drink Plenty of Fluids

Your body might become tense or lethargic and there may be a slight fever too. In such a case it is best to keep yourself hydrated with refreshing drinks. If your symptoms do not settle 48 hours after the vaccine, it is best to consult your doctor.

4. Remain Cautious

Even after getting the vaccine, the risk of transmission is uncertain according to researchers. If you are in the vicinity of people who themselves are not vaccinated, do not take your mask off. Sanitise your hands repeatedly.

5. Care of Children

If you are in a house with children – who will most likely qualify for the vaccine much later – do not hold small gatherings. Many are misinformed to think they can enjoy small gatherings after being vaccinated.

That is unlikely or unsafe if others in that gathering are not vaccinated!

6. Remain Outdoors With People

Even after being vaccinated, people are advised to meet with others in outdoor settings. Again, this is to ensure that no risk is borne for the transmission of the virus and the safety of all is ensured.

From the very first episode, the show has invited famous celebrities from Ayesha Omar to Mustafa Kamal. Considering the show is for the masses, Tabish keeps the show interactive and addresses stereotypes that would make the conversation relatable to millions. In the recent episode of TBH 2.0, Tabish invited Adnan Shah Tipu. Tipu is a method actor who has made his name in Indian films and is more popularly known in current times as the phuppa in Suno Chanda.

On the show, he shared how he got into acting and what his life before that was. He also mentioned that people cast actors based on looks and popularity when they should be doing so to fit the character well.

As the show proceeded, Tabish gave a very problematic context, and Tipu gave an equally disturbing response. Tabish said that women abroad are used to taking compliments such as ‘You are beautiful,’ but the local ones not so much. So, he asked if Adnan Shah Tipu had been in a similar situation. To that, Tipu replied that these women do want such comments when they get ready and leave their house, but when they get them, they get offended.

Well, no Tipu. They do not get ready to impress you. They do that for themselves. And if your compliment is unwelcome, then it is not a compliment but harassment.

The situation got further complicated when at the end of the show, Tabish asked Tipu to perform a character. He said that since he had previously played the role of Transgender, he should do that on the show again. And Tipu did. Almost spontaneously, as if their subconscious was guiding them, they conveyed a scenario where a transgender person was ready to give indecent favors. According to his implication, any transgender you would see on the road would readily be available for extra-marital relations for a reward.

No, Sir. They get so bullied everywhere else and have no other employment opportunities; that’s why many of them get involved in such jobs. But you cannot define the entire transgender community by just one profession.

Elon Musk and Yusaku Maezawa are working on something they are calling Dear Moon Project. As part of this, civilians will be able to travel to the moon for the first time. It is being forecasted that this will happen in 2023. So if you love space, why don’t you apply to get the chance? And yes, it can be you who is part of the crew.

It is even more amazing that it is open to the entire world’s population. So it is not like only Japanese or Americans would get the chance, no. You, me, all Pakistanis, can apply and be a part of it.

As the world moves towards clean energy, everyone wants to be a part of the race. Karachi University has recently installed a solar power generation system!

Are you familiar with fossil fuels? Do you know how they have been made and preserved in the earth for many years. However, as readily available as they are, they are still limited. There will come a time when fossil fuels run out and we will be left without a power source.

To tackle this issue, humans came up with alternate energy solutions. This includes systems like solar, wind, geothermal as well as hydroelectric. People want their electricity bill to be lighter and they decide to invest in solar.

So, what is the principle behind solar energy? Without diving into the boring details, let us get you through a crash course. Solar energy is exactly as it has been named. It derives itself from the energy the sun gives out. When photons hit the surface of the solar panel, they generate direct current. It is then converted to alternate current, using an inverter, and used. This is the simple principle behind solar power.

Now, when people see how well they are saving in electricity bills, they want this energy. Everyone wants to be a part of the clean energy future vision. Residential and commercial, both industries are running after solar panel installation. It is a hefty investment at first but it pays off over the long term. You cannot think of short term and go for clean energy. For that, we have fossil fuels and non renewable sources.

In light of clean energy, Karachi University has taken an initiative. They have recently had a solar power system installed at their site. This will not only benefit them but the environment too. As huge as the location is, it can definitely provide ample power through solar panels. The project itself is a huge one. It has a rating of 30 kilo watts and is intended for the faculty of Arts.

The whole project has been funded by the alumni of the university. It features an on-grid system which ties in to the K-electeic grid. It will help save a lot in electricity bills. The spokesperson of the government of Sindh even acknowledged the fact that this is entirely efficient and clean energy generation. This is because solar systems don’t even emit greenhouse gases.

Renewable Generation:

The project was initiated in October 2020. The University managed to raise approximately Rs.3 Million for the installation of this solar system. This is definitely a matter of pride for the institution. It shows how open-minded they are in terms of clean energy. Everyone wants to see this planet survive, but select few are working on it.

We hope this project opens up further opportunities for Karachi University to use solar power. Not just this, but we also hope other places are encouraged to use solar. It is not a fool’s errand to get this system, unless you are doing well without it. Solar is not for everyone.

Samsung To Hold Much Awaited Unpacked Event On 17th March

In today’s age, you will find numerous smartphones brand emerging. But the ones that have remained on the top are Apple and Samsung. So you can bet on it that when these two have a launch event, it is grand.

Samsung A-Series

In recent news, Samsung is planning to launch two of its mid-range devices this March. They will be the recent addition to their A-Series lineup, following the Galaxy S21 series. Galaxy A52 and A72 will be released in two variants; 4G as well as 5G. So considering technology has advanced quite a lot, gone is the time for the 3G device.

Samsung Awesome Unpacked

The event they will be releasing these devices at, Samsung is calling it Galaxy Awesome Unpacked event. It has been scheduled for March 17th and is expected to start at 10 am. Of course, Galaxy has only announced the event’s date and time and has not confirmed the devices’ names. But we all are assuming it’s going to be the A52 and A72 based on the past rumors.

That said, it could definitely be a completely new device given how much A52 and A72 have already gotten eyeballs. Maybe this is why, instead of calling it a launch event, the tech brand is calling it an ‘awesome’ unpacking—an unpacking of the box where the emerging product would surprise the people attending the event.

The A-series

Although considering how they have added the word ‘Awesome,’ it may be a hint from their end saying they definitely are A-Series products.

We don’t have many details, and neither has anything been released by the company, but we can rest assured that it will be A-series products because the A52 and A72 are the only upcoming mid-range devices. Moreover, these products, with the information we have on them, seem they could be the perfect successor to Samsung’s bestselling A5x models.

Yasir Hussain Thinks This Director Should Stop Making Films

Yasir Hussain, an actor, writer, and TV host, but known more for his controversies, recently made an appearance in The Couple Show. The host couple, Agha Ali and Hina Altaf invited Yasir along with his wife, Iqra Aziz.

Just like every other show, this one also had a few games. The one Agha played with Yasir was the cliched Rapid Fire, but it had two interesting twists to it. Number one, the host is not the only person who gets to ask the question. In this show, Agha would ask a question, and Yasir would ask the next. If one chooses not to answer the question, they will have to drink one of the many assortments laid out in front of them. And that is the next twist; the drinks range from raw eggs to sauces made of garlic.

In that round, Agha asked Yasir some questions, and just as expected, Yasir answered all without shying away from them. Amongst those questions, there was one where Agha asked him if he thinks someone should stop making films. Without hesitating, Yasir said it was Syed Noor.

He elaborated that he has seen many of Syed Noor’s films, and he is a fan. But after watching Chain Aye Na, his recent most film, he thinks it’s time Syed Noor stopped making films.

Moreover, Yasir had also added that if there were one TV actor who should have gone towards films, it would be Shahroz. Starring Shahroz Sabzwari in Chain Aye Na, one could ask what was so bad about the film. And was it really the film that was questionable? The answer is no. It wasn’t the film; instead, it was the time.

In recent times, Pakistani cinema has seen a makeover. Before that, Lollywood was full of movies made by Syed Noor. And he did precisely that. In fact, Chain Aye Na was a remake of his previous successful film. However, the current times did not accept it.

Maybe when he says that Syed Noor should stop making these films, it’s because the changing times have altered the audience for it, not because Syed Noor has lost the talent.
