Robert Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski is a Polish football player who played 8 seasons with FC Bayern Munich and is considered the second-best player in FC Bayern history after Gerd Muller. He was the second top goal scorer in FC Bayern history with 344 goals. He won 19 official trophies in Germany including UEFA Champions League, Bundesliga, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup. He gave very tough competition to Lionel Messi in Ballon d’Or ranking as he was just a few votes behind Messi in the 2020 ranking. After the season of 2021/22, he decided to leave the club and his top priority was to join FC Barcelona. The board members of FC Bayern didn’t want to sell him to Barcelona due to their financial crisis (thinking Barcelona could not afford Lewandowski). But Lewandowski’s managed to get him into Barcelona and finally, on 16 July, FC Barcelona announced the blockbuster signing of Lewandowski with a transfer fee of €50 million. Lewandowski was very happy on his arrival at Camp Nou. He played his first pre-season game against Real Madrid in which Barca defeated Madrid by 1:0 in Las Vegas. Lewandowski is roped in to strengthen the attack of Barcelona with Ansu Fati and Raphinha as well. He will try to recreate his magic at Barcelona, that made him a star at Bayern Munich, and help Barcelona move on from the loss of Lionel Messi last season.

Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland is a Norwegian football player who played 2 seasons with the German club Borussia Dortmund. He is widely known for his finishing abilities, acrobatic goals and speed. He was a striker in Dortmund and was a top scorer in the UCL in the 2020/21 season. After the departure of Gabrial Jesus to Arsenal, Manchester City wanted a striker to fil Jesus’ shoes, and on 10 May 2022, Manchester City signed Haaland for a €60 million release clause to BVB until June 2027 with a salary of €375,000 a week – same as the Manchester City captain Kevin De Bruyne. Haaland made his debut in a pre-season match on 24 July against FC Bayern Munich and in the 12 minutes, scored the goal and City beat Bayern by 1:0.

Aurelien Tchouameni

Aurelien Tchouameni is a French player who plays in defensive midfield. He transferred from Monaco to Real Madrid on 11 June and is considered to be the most expensive signing in 2022 summer transfer window. Florentino Parez (President of Real Madrid) signed him for €80 million from Monaco. Though he had many offers from across Europe, he sided with Real Madrid. Ancelotti (Manager of Real Madrid) planned to sign him as a replacement for Casemiro in the long term, as he had defensive qualities and was a box-to-box midfield player which Madrid needed the most after Casemiro. He signed a 6-year contract with Real Madrid in January and participated in pre-season matches against Barcelona and Juventus. He proved his brilliance in the field against Juventus, and helped his team in defensive position by winning duels.

Darwin Nunez

Darwin Nunez is Uruguayan football player who played with S.L. Benfica last season and scored 6 goals in the UEFA champions league (UCL) in the 2021/22 season. After his performance in UCL, he was considered by the top managers as a top priority in the attack. Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp was also one of them, who was very impressed by Nunez’s performance against Liverpool. After the departure of Sadio Mane to FC Bayern Munich, Liverpool wanted a striker who could replicate what Sadio Mane did in the past seasons with Liverpool. Nunez transferred from Benfica to Liverpool with a transfer fee of €75 million. He initially struggled in pre-season matches, and was disapproved by Liverpool fans as a floppy signing. However, in the FA Community Shield Final, Nunez proved them wrong by scoring a last-minute header, against Manchester City. Liverpool defeated Manchester City by 3-1. Nunez aims to continue these heroics, to prove his worth at Liverpool and stay true to his potential.

NIC hosts Jazz Xlr8 powered session on ‘Reputation Management’

The National Incubation Centre (NIC) in Islamabad recently organized a session powered by Jazz Xlr8 titled ‘Reputation Management for Startups’, in which over 40 startup founders participated.  The session was conducted by Khayyam Siddiqi, Head of External Communication at Jazz. Siddiqi is also a tech-journalist turned policy and strategic communication professional with 15 years of experience. Siddiqi was also part of the core team that led the reforms in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business initiative – taking Pakistan’s global ranking 28 notches up from 136 to 108 in 2020.

According to Siddiqi, technological advancement, from cloud computing to the Internet of Things and Blockchain, has been encouraging innovation. New businesses are springing up every second, with some disrupting the traditional way of doing things. In such a landscape – where media has limited space, and the audience is bombarded with information via various mediums – young startups need to adopt the right PR approach, so they not only stand out amidst the clutter but can improve their reputation.

He introduced the NIC startups to the fundamentals of PR and the importance of strategic communication, including reputation management and discussed tools and techniques that can help local businesses scale and adopt the right approach to identifying and reaching out to critical stakeholders. “PR contributes to a company’s credibility. In the long run, it builds brand equity – the perceived value of a brand in the eyes of its stakeholders,” he said.

The young entrepreneurs were also introduced to the Reptrak model of reputation management, which according to Siddiqi allows companies to build four attributes: esteem, trust, admiration and feelings.  “It is important to focus on and communicate business performance, thought leadership, sustainability initiatives, innovation, workplace, governance, and products and services as these are a company’s key pillars which create a link between stakeholders and the company.”

He said for most startups, it would be intriguing to know how efforts related to strategic communication permeate into everything corporations do, providing a holistic image of the company and narrating a story that can pique the interest of the right audiences.

During the two-hour interactive session, the entrepreneurs shared their experiences on how communications have helped them scale their businesses. Also, many startups had interesting questions about reaching the right audience and transitioning their storytelling to enhance growth. They also inquired about protecting their reputation, especially in a crisis situation.

Control Your Anger Before it Controls You

We all get angry from time to time don’t we? But for some of us anger is our kryptonite. When nothing in life goes our way and daily situations get out of hand, anger surfaces and takes us to the point where we ruin everything. Be it by hurting our loved ones or taking rash decisions that turn the course of our lives, anger can do it all. But all hope is not lost, here’s how you can manage it!

Why Should Anger Be Managed

Managing your anger is a super under-rated practice. Men are especially socialized to believe that being angry and not knowing to handle that  is perfectly fine. But here’s where the problem comes. When we don’t manage our anger, we become distant, cold and also intimidating to others. This can impact our ability to connect with others.

Moreover, if you don’t know how to manage your anger then it also impacts your personal mental health a lot for the worse.

Identify What Triggers It

Everybody has triggers for their anger. It’s important for you to identify what are your anger triggers. Is it when somebody raises their voice? Is it when things aren’t arranged like you wanted them to be? Whatever the trigger is isn’t the concern. The concern is that you identify them and so you can avoid them and work on them.

Learn What Soothes You

If you know your trigger, the next thing you need to be aware about is what soothes you. This is imperative to learn about because it’s a huge step in self-awareness. Besides that, it is also important because even if your trigger has been activated, you can soothe yourself.

Learn to Manage Your Thoughts

Learning to manage your thoughts should also not be ignored. Most of the times when you’re on edge, anger is what pushes you over the edge. Moreover, once you have become angry, your thoughts can continue to snowball and keep you in the bitter mood.

Learn to know which thoughts are intrusive and which are your own. Change the channel of thought, focus on something close by.

The workplace has become a hybrid space post COVID-19. However, it has also become tougher. As many lost their job with the advent of the pandemic, the workplace has become more competitive and cut-throat as people seek to retain their jobs. So what are some essential leadership skills you need in your arsenal to succeed? Let’s find out:

Read more: Why Do So Many Of Us Experience Mid-life Crisis?

Delegation

Delegating tasks is an important skill. This is because when people take on too many tasks themselves out of lack of trust for the other, they fail to deliver quality on any task. Quality over quantity in the workforce! Learn your team’s success and delegate tasks accordingly.

Giving Feedback

Learning how to give feedback is also an essential skill. Most people make their feedback too harsh which prevents others from learning their feedback. Instead, learn how to offer constructive feedback to help your teammates learn from your critique.

Trustworthiness

Giving good feedback also helps you develop another skill: that of being trustworthy. Being trustworthy is a skill— you need to develop those qualities that ultimately make you trustworthy in the face of others. For instance, you listen to their concern and you don’t make a mountain out of a molehill. You don’t spread that around. You help your teammates when they feel down.

Responsibility

This is a vital leadership skill to have in the workspace in 2022 which many discount. Being responsible doesn’t only mean giving your work on time. It means you accept your mistakes when you make one. It means you help others evaluate best solutions. Responsibility can also look like transparency!

Being Flexible

Another skill that’s very much in demand due to the huge layoffs and changes in the structures of the companies is being flexible. People want to employ those who can pick up a little bit of weight outside their department too. It also looks like you knowing that your job will not look the same everyday. Some day it will look like being in the office and other days it might look like being on the road. You ned to make yourself comfortable with all versions!

Facebook Is Shutting Down Live Shopping And Focusing On Reels

In today’s news, Facebook is back at redefining the platform as it plans to discontinue its live video shopping feature. The feature came out exactly two years ago and will go off the grid on October 1.

Facebook Shopping Live

The parent company of Facebook meta has decided to focus on reels. The previous feature let influencers and retailers host live shopping events on Facebook. In an attempt to change the carousel, users will no longer be able to list and tag their products. As well as to create product playlists or tag products on Facebook.

“As consumers’ viewing behaviours are shifting to short-form video, we are shifting our focus to Reels on Facebook and Instagram, Meta’s short-form video product,” the company wrote in a Tuesday blog post.

According to Meta, the monetisation tool is being changed to focus more on short-form content.

“If you want to reach and engage people through video, try experimenting with Reels and Reels ads on Facebook and Instagram. You can also tag products in Reels on Instagram to enable deeper discovery and consideration. If you have a shop with checkout and want to host Live Shopping events on Instagram, you can set up Live Shopping on Instagram.”

Half Of Gen Z Uses TikTok And Instagram For Search Instead Of Google

While TikTok has given its social media competitors tough competition, it seems like it’s not just the social media companies. Still, search engines, too, may have a reason to be worried about TikTok. Even the biggest one in the game – Google.

Google’s internal data has revealed that nearly 40 per cent of Gen Z users prefer to use TikTok. Meanwhile, many users also use Instagram for internet search instead of Google Search and Maps.

TikTok has been one of the fastest-growing social media apps, and it has become extremely popular globally. Other social media apps like Instagram and Snapchat have also evolved to include similar video support on their platforms, such as Reels and Spotlight, to keep up with TikTok’s popularity. In countries where TikTok has been banned, apps with almost identical UI and UX, or similar elements, have popped up to make the best of the gaping hole left behind, with Meta and Snap leading from the front.

Gen Z Opts For TikTok For Searches

According to reports, a Google executive has confirmed that the TikTok format has changed how youngsters take in internet searches, and Google is working to keep up.

Google’s Senior Vice President Prabhakar Raghavan says that Google’s internal studies suggest that “almost 40% of young people when looking for a place for lunch, they don’t go to Google Maps or Search, they go to TikTok or Instagram.”

But Google is not giving up yet. According to the company, it is planning to make its search engine appeal more to a younger audience by adding a few features. For starters, users would be able to focus their camera over an area to get insights about numerous objects in that scene.

TikTok is growing at a pace that will soon outperform American social media giants like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. A previous analysis claimed that Facebook would lose 1.5 million teen users by 2025. All because of Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok – apps that remain more popular among younger generations.

Nestlé Pakistan takes another step towards sustainable apple sourcing

For decades, an apple orchard nestled in the scenic mountains of Nagar has been Esa Khan and his family’s source of income. Esa grew up on the same orchid witnessing his father and grandfather grow apples with fresh water from the glaciers and find commercial buyers to supply them. Every now and then, he would see them return home to share that a part of the apple produce got wasted because of delays in finding buyers.

This problem is not unique to Esa and his family. It’s unfortunate that despite Gilgit Baltistan producing ample fruit, large quantities end up getting wasted. Nestlé Pakistan identified this challenge and has been enabling growers like Esa preserve and protect produce by purchasing apples directly from them and making them an integral part of its value chain.

Gilgit Baltistan’s economy relies on agriculture and horticulture. Over 90 percent of the population is engaged in practicing their centuries old tradition of growing fruits and irrigating them with natural glacier water. Grown in the majestic Hunza, Nagar, and Ghizer valleys, these apples are close to naturally organic. While it is important to maintain this standard, it is equally important for growers to diversify their produce and derive multiple sources of income.

Nestlé Pakistan, in collaboration with the Gilgit Baltistan Agriculture Department and the regional farming cooperatives, is working to explore new varieties, improve quality and increase the quantity of their produce. Nestlé’s Creating Shared Value (CSV) is an initiative where they extend support and directly engage with communities across their value chain. Not only does this add value to the business, but it also helps local communities thrive as a result of socioeconomic development.

A relatively newer challenge for growers like Esa, that their earlier generations did not witness, is climate change. Unpredictable weather conditions adversely impact the produce. As a result, growers are unable to yield the quantity they did in the past, which affects their livelihood. Nestlé, in collaboration with the Agriculture Department of Gilgit Baltistan and local support organizations, is working closely with small-sized local apple growers in the region to diversify their products and improve their livelihoods by increasing horticulture production through good agriculture practices including tree pruning, pest management and post-harvest management.

“Fruit losses are enormously high in this natural organic region. We are helping our growers to minimize fruit waste and increase value.”

Mehboob Elahi – Supplier Development & Sustainable Agriculture Manager Nestlé Pakistan.

As a result of these efforts, in 2021, Nestlé sourced high-quality apples from Hunza, Nagar, and Ghizer valleys, where fruit trees are nourished with glacier water, enabling farmers of varying scales to reduce fruit waste and increase value. These apples sourced from Gilgit Baltistan are then used in manufacturing cereals for children.

“Earlier, delays in sales would waste 40% of our apples but now due to Nestlé’s timely bulk purchases, our sales have approximately reached 100%”

These efforts are line with UN’s Sustainable Development Goals: 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth. 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production.  13 – Climate Action. 17 – Partnerships for the Goals.

Find A Moment For Deep Breaths

Deep breaths are more important than you think. Finding out pockets during the day when you can just relax and take 10 deep breaths in and out will help you ground yourself. Know that the focus should be on deep breaths out as they lower your heart pace and make you feel calmer.

Close Your Eyes

When life gets too chaotic and you need that moment of zen, close your eyes. Sit with your eyes closed for a while and imagine being in a completely white space and it’ll help you soothe yourself.

Build A Morning Routine

Building a morning routine is also of immense significance if you’re looking to find zen. For instance, wake up, shower, meditate for 10 minutes and then have breakfast. When you have routine and predictability in your morning, it is easier for you to feel at peace.

Twitter Tests Multimedia Tweets

Twitter currently allows users to post only one form of multimedia per tweet. However, this limitation is expected to change as the micro-blogging platform tests a new feature allowing users to combine multiple media formats in one tweet. According to a report by TechCrunch, Twitter has confirmed that it has started testing a new multi-media feature. The feature will allow users to post images, videos and GIFs in a single tweet.

Twitter Multimedia Update

The company confirmed that the feature is currently being run on a time-limited test with select users. Twitter users can add tags to both photos and videos in the tweet.

“We are testing a new feature with select accounts for a limited time that will allow people to mix up to four media assets into a single tweet, regardless of format,” the microblogging site was quoted as saying in a statement.

While some users have tweeted about the feature, it is unclear what different media would look like in a single tweet.

“We are seeing people have more visual conversations on Twitter and are using images, GIFS and videos to make these conversations more exciting,” the company said.

“With this test, we are hoping to learn how people combine these different media formats to express themselves more creatively on Twitter beyond 280 characters,” it added.

The feature was also hinted at by Alessandro Paluzzi back in April 2022. As seen in the screenshots shared by Paluzzi, all the media seen in a post could appear as a carousel. Further, users should be able to arrange the order of posts in the carousel. When the feature comes out for all users, it will help them share multiple media forms with other users on the platform.

Latest Twitter Features

Recent, Twitter launched tweets, a feature that allows two users to co-author a tweet together. Once two users co-author a tweet, it’s posted on both their profiles simultaneously. To differentiate a CoTweet from other tweets, users see the authors’ profile pictures and usernames as the header. At the same time, the feature would allow Twitter users to partner with others and expand their viewership. It would also help them to build connections on the platform. Schedule of England Tour Of Pakistan Announced

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the schedule of the much-anticipated England tour of Pakistan today. England would tour Pakistan in two phases, first in September, and then in December 2022. They would play seven Twenty20 Internationals in Karachi and Lahore from September 20 till October 2 in their first tour to Pakistan after 17 years.

Karachi’s National Stadium will host T20s on September 20, 22, 23, and 25, while Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore will host the final three matches on September 28 and 30 and on October 2. All matches will begin at 7:30 PM PST. After T20s, England will leave for Australia to participate in T20 World Cup. They will come back for the second phase in December to play three test matches.

Pakistan’s bumper international season will get underway with the T20I series against England. After playing England in September and December, Pakistan will host matches against New Zealand in two phases; firstly, in December/January for two Tests and three ODIs, and then in April for five ODIs and five T20Is. Followed by a series against West Indies for three Twenty20 Internationals in late January, and then the 50-over ACC Asia Cup.

“We are absolutely delighted to confirm hosting England for seven T20Is in Karachi and Lahore as a curtain-raiser to a busy, entertaining and exciting season of home internationals,” Zakir Khan, PCB director of international cricket, said in a statement. “England is one of the top-ranked T20I teams and them playing the shortest format in the lead-up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Pakistan will not only help the team management to finalize their preparations but will also set the tone for December’s three-Test series.”

In late July, an ECB security assessment team of three members visited Pakistan to examine the situation. They returned to England impressed with the security arrangements and gave the go-ahead for England’s first visit to Pakistan since 2005.

“We demonstrated our event planning and operational skills in the highly-successful series against Australia in March-April and I am confident we will be able to replicate these when England visits us for the first time since 2005,” Zakir said. “We have been able to confirm the schedule of the T20Is following a successful tour by the England and Wales Cricket Board recce team, which was pleased and satisfied with all our arrangements.”

The full schedules for the test series against England, as well as New Zealand and the West Indies, will be announced soon. Rob Key, the ECB’s managing director of men’s cricket, said “We are looking forward to returning to Pakistan and playing these seven T20Is as the team builds up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,”

He further added, “We have been liaising closely with the PCB over arrangements for this visit and the Tests later in the year, and will continue to work closely with the PCB, British High Commission, and other relevant authorities as we continue to prepare for these tours.”

“We would like to thank the PCB and the city authorities for all their ongoing assistance with planning for the tours, including hosting the recent pre-tour planning visit by ECB representatives and the PCA CEO.”

A Campaign That Got Us Curious!

After several award-winning campaigns, it looks like Durex Pakistan is on its way to creating yet another memorable launch of one of its exciting new variants of condoms in Pakistan, Durex Invisible. The campaign started with Durex’s signature style of humor as the brand first released a series of riddles on their social media pages with netizens abuzz. All the riddles essentially lead to the same answer, but that did not stop commenters from leaving behind an array of responses that ranged from innocent to downright hilarious.

The riddles served as a successful pre-hype to their campaign, engaging audiences on each of their social platforms as guesses kept pouring in and friends were being tagged too. The Durex marketing team did not fail to impress us with their creative strategy to engage the audience through wit, and of course their ability to create clever content that gets you thinking. Durex campaigns are becoming popular as a means to break free of taboos by starting a conversation around intimate conversations using comedy and relatability on digital media.

Durex’s variant, Invisible, was recently launched and established to be their thinnest condom yet, which claims to provide both pleasure and protection. The #RiddleMeThis campaign played on the invisibility’ aspect of the condom, while tying in the other features to create engaging content. Following the riddles, Durex Pakistan simply posted a story on their socials stating, “This story is no longer visible”, doing just enough to keep curiosity piqued without giving too much away.

The campaign came to a close with the big reveal through a DVC that finally gives the internet the answer it had so been craving as Durex announced the Invisible variant. The DVC communicated not just the value proposition but also the functionality of the product in just a few short sentences.

We love everything that this brand has done in the past, what it is doing now, and we can’t wait to see what else it will get up to in the future!
