Alibaba Backed Meizu all Set to Enter Pakistani Smartphone Market

Today as we know it, is an evolution of yesterday. What is trending today most likely will become obsolete tomorrow. This is especially true in the technology and communications sector.

Which is exactly the reason why the mobile segment, in recent years, has become exciting for people. Smartphones have become an integral part of everyday lifestyles, replacing our watches, diaries, video game consoles, landline handsets, and cameras. The mobile companies have evolved tremendously over the years, and faced cut-throat competition amongst themselves, hence creating the necessity of constant innovation. Mobile phone companies bring new innovations with time while the consumers welcome the innovations and adapt to them swiftly.

Meizu backed by Alibaba, is a Chinese marvel which officially began its smartphone manufacturing in 2007 after realizing the need and appreciation of the mobile phone industry. In the recent two years, Meizu kept growing rapidly resulting in a sales revenue of 3 billion in 2016.

After success around the globe, Meizu has, just recently, spread its wings much further by investing in the Pakistani market and aiming to get bigger with the backing of its energetic and dedicated team. The founder of Meizu J.Wong, with his creative concepts, began initially with MP3 players till the product became successful in their own category. This led to the launch of smartphones from their model M8 which served as the first touchscreen phone in China of its time. M9 followed with retina display, MX with dual-core MX2 & MX3 with thin bezel boundary and MX4 Pro with front fingerprint identification.

These successful inventions caught the attention of Alibaba who invested an estimated $590 million in Meizu to acquire an undisclosed stake in the organization. After witnessing the success of Meizu, Alibaba developed a keen interest in the organization and began investing heavily in Meizu’s growth. This business deal between the two organizations will serve great purpose of both of them. With Alibaba providing resources and essential support in E-commerce, internet, mobile internet services, data analysis and other aspects while Meizu will extend Ali Baba’s mobile internet advantages in the promotion of its smartphones.

Meizu in its products pays great attention to Design, Manufacturing, innovation, and foremostly; Quality. Meizu is entering Pakistan with M6, M6 note, Pro 7 and  Pro 7 plus with dual LCD.

Its design philosophy focuses upon on beautifully engineered body while being compact and smart to look at. From blasting to polishing techniques, the smartphones deliver an exquisite full metal body.  The bespoke innovation stood out when except Apple, the only Android phone with the first front-mounted fingerprint came with Meizu’s MX4 Pro. However, this isn’t the full stop to the creativity as Meizu invested 2.5 million dollars in the mold of the Rear screen of its flagship smartphone. This idea came when it was realized that the interior space of mobile phones have become smaller making it difficult to add another. So all that can be seen on the front screen, can be easily viewed on Rear as well including notifications, selfies, wallpapers, alarm clock and so on.

For an unmatchable efficient experience, Meizu developed its own operating system in 2012. Flyme is based on Android for smoother operations, aligned user habits and offers greater security. With this, Meizu has become the official certified partner of Google. With every year, Flyme is also progressing with upgraded functionality and interaction. All Meizu phones are powered by that latest Flyme 6.0. With increasing sales of Meizu Smartphones, the users of Flyme have reached to 54 million and download of this app has reached to 25 billion. What makes it special is the experience of the new Intelligent Thinking Engine “One Mind” which understands the user’s habits, detects the status and identifies regular application by providing solutions accordingly.

Meizu has gained popularity in 30 overseas countries including Russia, Ukraine, Myanmar, Indonesia, Italy, Israel and many more while the venture in Pakistan offers great promise as well. With the organization’s vigorous expansion, the overseas sales of 2016 was 3.5 times that of 2015. Meizu invested in big sponsorships and advertisements in all these regions. So much so that users recognize its home color which remains blue.

When it comes to the users, we aren’t just talking about young people, we are talking about the progressive-minded, the tech-savvy, the adventure loving, experience fueled members of society that believe in settling for nothing less than the very best.

With the same notion, Meizu is set onwards with its success in Pakistan providing up-to-date products while already anticipating a great number of users.

Brilliance in Pakistan!

Pakistanis are Blaming this Oscar Winner for Islamabad Protests & Its Really Funny!

The Islamabad sit-ins which slowly took over the entire nation and caused the country to come to a standstill over the weekend were terrible and caused major inconvenience to hundreds across the country.

However, trust us Pakistanis to come up with someone who can take the blame for all the wrongs happening around us.

A similar incident happened over social media when a page uploaded a picture of the person behind all the protests. Little did they know the man was a popular Hollywood celebrity and started bashing him as being the ‘American’ behind the entire fiasco.

Can you guess who the actor being blamed is?

Unbelievably, it is none other than the mega Hollywood star, Leonardo Di Caprio. He was called an American officer that directed the protestors to act on his behalf.

The page on Facebook asked the public to send out ‘Laanats’ to Leo. Oh, the sheer stupidity!

And…as expected these were the comments!

We wonder what Leonardo would say if he found out what’s happening in Pakistan!

Of all the conspiracies and scandals to be linked to, we’re pretty sure this has to be the funniest Leonardo has been associated with. Kudos to whoever came up with it!

Google Launches Datally in Pakistan: An App That Saves You Data

Today Google announced Datally, a smart and simple Android app that helps smartphone users understand, control, and save mobile data. Datally works on all smartphones running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and higher and is available today on the Google Play Store globally.

Datally helps solve one of the biggest pain points for smartphone users around the world — worries about data usage. Google found during extensive user research around the world that many smartphone users worry about running out of data.

“This is an especially acute problem for the newest generation to come online, known as the “Next Billion Users.” Not only are these smartphone users constantly thinking about data balances, but they do not understand where their data is going, nor do they feel in control over allocating data to the apps they really care about.

Datally empowers users to solve these problems with four key features:

Data Saver

Apps frequently use data in the background for updating content and information. Datally’s Data Saver feature lets users control data on an app-by-app basis, so that data only goes to apps they care about. People testing the app saved up to 30% of mobile data, depending on the way they used Datally.

Data Saver bubble

Once Data Saver is turned on, Datally’s Data Saver bubble will appear when a user goes into an app that is allowed to use data. Whenever that app uses data, the Data Saver bubble will show the current rate of data usage, and users can easily choose to block that app’s data use if things start to get out of control. The Data Saver bubble is like a speedometer for mobile data.

Personalized alerts

Datally alerts users when apps start consuming a lot of data, and it allows them to see how much data they’ve used on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

Wi-Fi finder

There are also times when users want to use more data than they have on their mobile plans, such as when they want to watch HD videos. Public Wi-Fi is an important access point for high-bandwidth connectivity, so Datally’s Find Wi-Fi feature reveals the networks nearby, rated by the Datally community. Once connected, users can rate the Wi-Fi networks themselves based on their own experience.

Mobile Services to be Suspended on Friday?

Pakistan is gearing up for Eid Milad Un Nabi which falls this Friday, 1st December 2017. The preparations are in full swing and you can see roads and building lit up with colorful lights and decorations.

However, as every year this 12 Rabi ul Awal may see the shut down of mobile services across Pakistan. Even though it is highly inconvenient for everyone as contacting your loved ones becomes difficult.

Ministry of Interior rolled out a notification to announce the suspension!

The authorities have cited the reason for the network shutdown in previous cases to be precautionary measures to sustain security throughout the day and to avoid terror attacks. Security concerns in major cities lead to the ban on network services on all important religious and political events.

Mobile services are normally suspended across all cities in Pakistan from early morning to night on Chehlum and Muharram, the same schedule may be followed on Milad Un Nabi if the government decides to shut down the services. However, timings have not yet been announced.

The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on Milad un Nabi where all shops, offices and educational institutes will remain closed in the province.

Apart from cellphones remaining without networks all day, the recent ride-hailing companies like Careem and Uber are highly dependent on mobile networks and 3G services. No signals mean no business for the cab services all day.

Once again Bitcoin has managed to make it into the headlines and for reasons, nobody saw coming.

2017 witnessed a stunning rise of cryptocurrency! This week alone, Bitcoin’s value set an all-time high as it value surged above $10,000.

But nothing lasts forever and within a matter of minutes, it’s worth saw a crushing decline!

Bitcoin Price Index

Everything is relative with bitcoin!

At its lowest, the blockchain-based cryptocurrency fell around $9,000 on the CoinDesk Bitcoin Price Index (BPI) today. This means its value was reduced by nearly a fifth and now,  cryptocurrency enthusiasts are already predicting that the bitcoin boom will end in tears.

Over the past year, Bitcoin took almost four months to reach $1,000 to a closing mark of $2,000. It later skyrocketed from $9,000 to $10,000 in just a duration of three days, recording a tenfold jump in value this year.

However, its sharp decline could be a sign that a rapidly swelling bubble could explode in spectacular fashion. Nobody knows what happened, but that’s maybe a good thing.

The digital currency is still unrecognized or regarded as an asset by most central banks.  It is not recognized in Pakistan either and is labeled as illegal by the State Bank of Pakistan.

YouTube Implements New Policies to Tackle Inappropriate Children’s Content

Recently, YouTube has been under fire for the kind of inappropriate content which was being uploaded to the social media platform being deemed as ‘children’s content’.

YouTube took notice of the complaint filed by BuzzFeed about the content and banned around 50 channels which were displaying adult content and child exploitation videos.

The platform has now made new policies to tackle this issue and to prevent it from the future as well.

The new policies are:

  • The ads will be removed from the videos with troublesome content. This act will demonetize the videos and discourage the uploader.
  • Inappropriate comments will be blocked or removed from videos targeted to minors
  • Google will be consulting with experts in the area.

A Google employee has mentioned that this action will take place throughout the week and will be implemented as soon as possible. Policies will be further enhanced if the threats rise in the near-future.

The new policies will have to be implemented by all channels regardless of any expectations. YouTube has pulled ads from over 2 million inappropriate children’s videos so far.

Just a few months ago parents of young children expressed their anger because of the content which certain YouTube channels were portraying.

The videos displayed inappropriate adult content in between famous cartoon characters like Frozen’s Else, her sister Anna, and Spiderman.

Thinking that the situation is now under control and has now become a part of the past, YouTube is once again under fire and this time it’s for content displaying child exploitation.

BuzzFeed News collected a report in which over a dozen YouTube channels had video content which had millions of views showcasing disturbing and abusive misconduct with young children.

5 Ways to Earn Money From YouTube!

Tracing the videos back to their origin, it was found that majority of the unsettling trend started in Europe and has started to spread across the continent reaching to several different countries around the world.

Some of the disturbing content found in the videos include forcefully stuffing a child into a washing machine or tying them by tight ropes in revealing clothes most of the time. Then there were videos in which the children were forced to play doctor games with adults or were kidnapped.

“In the last week we terminated over 50 channels and have removed thousands of videos under these guidelines,” YouTube said in a statement.

On Tuesday afternoon, BuzzFeed News contacted YouTube regarding a number of verified accounts — each with millions of subscribers — with hundreds of disturbing videos showing children in distress. As of Wednesday morning, all the videos provided by BuzzFeed News, as well as the accounts, were suspended for violating YouTube’s rules.

However, it raises the question about the monitoring of content which is being uploaded to the platform which is used by millions of adults and children worldwide.

We hope this issue is highlighted enough so that parents are aware that these videos are not only counted as child abuse, but they also play with the mental health of children who act like babies and those who watch such content. It is toxic to mental health and encourages children to be comfortable when it comes to being ‘touchy’ with adults.

Stay aware and mentor the activity your kids conduct as this is something which should not be taken lightly.

Apple to Roll Out a New Foldable iPhone?

Apple’s iPhone has become a name synonymous with innovation, the latest release, iPhone X has caused users to rush to the Apple store, lining up to get their hands on the new addition.

However, Apple seems to be stepping up on its game even further this year. Recent reports have suggested that a revamp for the iPhone SE and also extensions to the iPhone X design.

The news taking the internet by storm is the talk of Apple achieving a patent for a foldable smartphone, that would close and open just like a book.

The tentative design for the foldable iPhone!

The technology giant filed a patent application last week with the U.S Patent and Trade Office that details its research into electronic devices with flexible display screens.

Keeping in mind the old foldable cellphones, the new design would change the game altogether and set a new trend. It could eliminate the inconvenience of carrying full-size smartphones in pockets and purses. Instead, people can now fold and then unfold them when needed to make a call or send a message. The possibilities are endless.

If Apple would create a foldable iPhone screen, would we be seeing similar technology in its other products like the Mac Computers and Apple Smart Watch?

However, it has also been reported, that Apple is not the only company interested in this new technology of foldable smartphones, Samsung is also said to be working on a foldable version of its Galaxy phones.

Apple has not yet been granted this patent and it could be years before the foldable technology comes into existence. The company will first have to put in a lot of research as the interface would need to be totally different for people to easily adapt to.

What are your thoughts on the new foldable technology? Let us know in the comments below.

Umar Akmal Shrugs Off Death Hoax

Update: Recently, a rumor claiming that Pakistani cricketer Umar Akmal is no more was circulating around the internet.

Many concerned fans took it to social media to express their grief and concern.

However, there is no need to panic as Akmal is alive and well. The image which was being shared was another man who had passed away in a riot. To ensure his fans of his well being, he posted a tweet on Twitter reading ‘Alhamdulillah I am safe n perfectly fine in Lahore all news coming from social media is fake
And Insha Allah I will join

He wrote: “All news coming from social media is fake”.

The law and order situation of Pakistan turned ugly as riots and protests broke out over the last couple of days. Caught in the midst of this were innocent civilians and even the police.

It was reported that 200 were left injured, while some had the misfortunate of receiving injuries, and some lost their lives.

Soon, a news broke out claiming that Pakistani cricketer Umar Akmal is no more and was killed during the protests.

After the surfacing of this picture, many people took it to social media to ask if the news of the cricketer was actually true or just a hoax!

However, the man in the picture is not Umar Akmal, but a civilian who looks like him who crumbled to his injuries.

While it comes as a relief that the cricketer is alright, it is also sad that someone lost their life in one of the most unfortunate ways.

While some are asking for their answers, unfortunately, there are those who think that the matter at hand is actually funny and that someone’s demise is a joke which can be laughed off!

We as Pakistanis need to realize that there are people who do not want this country to prosper and unwillingly we are helping them as they add fuel to the fire.

These protests have not just resulted in several injuries and even deaths, but businesses remained closed, causing a hit to the country’s economy.

Followed by damages of goods and resources like buildings and busses, which does not make a single difference to them, but causes us, and our country a lot of money, worsening the value of our currency.

It is important for everyone to realize that violence is not the answer. Yes, it is important for such matters to be highlighted, sit-in protests are one way, however, bloody riots will just result in casualties, and nothing positive can ever come out of it
