At Least 4 Mineral Water Brands Declared Unsafe for Consumption: PCRWR

PCRWR

Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) in its latest reports for April-June 2019 has declared 4 brands of bottled mineral water as unsafe for human consumption.

According to the reports, a total of 77 brands were sampled out of which 4 were declared chemically unsafe. Out of these 4, Super Natural and Taj Pure Drinking Water were found to have too much sodium.

Whereas Classic Plus and KLINZ were found to have a lower pH than the standard limit. Reports further claim that the excessive sodium in 2 of the brand’s water can cause hypertension whereas a low pH can cause acidity.

The 77 botted samples were taken from Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Tando Jam, Multan, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Sialkot, and Peshawar. PCRWR has been designated the task of quality monitoring from the ministry since 2005.

What do you think about the deteriorating quality of water being circulated in Pakistan?

Karachi: Thundershower Predicted Over Next 3 Days, Precaution Advised!

Karachi: Thundershower Predicted Over Next 3 Days, Precaution Advised!

K Electric

The Pakistan Metrological Department has informed that a monsoon low over Northwest Orrisa has moved West-Northwestwards.

It now lies over central parts of Madhya Pradesh and likely to reach north Rajasthan on Tuesday. Under the influence of this weather, the system is expected to bring  Rains/thundershower (with isolated heavy falls) in scattered places in Pakistan.

Cities to face the impact include Mirpurkhas, Thatta, Hyderabad, Karachi, Shaheed Benazirabad divisions from Tuesday (night) to Thursday, while at isolated places in Sukkur, Larkana, D.G Khan, Bahawalpur, Zhob, Sibbi, and Kalat divisions.

All concerned authorities have been alerted to stay vigilant.

K-Electric Issues Precautions for Monsoon Season

K-Electric reiterates the significance of safety especially during monsoon rains. In light of the expected rains, the power utility urges people to adopt necessary precautionary measures to avoid any safety hazards.

In light of the alert for heavy rainfall and stormy winds, people are cautioned to maintain a distance of at least 3 meters from power infrastructure including poles, transformers, downed power lines, low-hanging power lines, trees that have fallen on power lines and tilted. Standing under transformers, billboards or leaning against poles should also be avoided at all times.

Children should not be left unattended and warned from playing near electricity installations. Do not touch electronic, power sockets/switches and electrical devices/equipment without insulated rubber shoes and gloves. The utility also categorically condemns the illegal abstraction of power, including the use of ‘kundas’, as this is the leading cause of electrical contact incidents during monsoon. Moreover, sacrificial animals should not be tied to or near electric poles.

During rain, parts of the city especially low-lying areas experience waterlogging and special care must be taken to avoid areas of standing water. In case of an electrical emergency, it is also strongly recommended to keep others in the area at least 3 meters away and wait for the rescue staff to arrive.

As per various studies; a large portion of Karachi is unplanned and includes encroachments in different areas and around electricity infrastructure. These areas and encroachments are infested with ‘kundas’, and despite multiple drives by KE to remove these illegal power connections and report encroachments to law enforcement agencies, the illegal hooks are reconnected creating a potential safety hazard especially during rains.

While KE takes precautionary measures including preventive maintenance, network-wide inspections of the power infrastructure, strengthened vigilance of on-ground teams as well as suspension of electricity supply to areas which are prone to such incidents; joint effort from all concerned stakeholders is critical to enforce necessary urban development standards across the whole city to strengthen Karachi’s resilience and eliminate the issue of illegal encroachments and ‘kundas’.

KE would also like to apprise that during rain power interruptions are often caused by factors beyond control including wind, lightning, accidents, breakage, etc. In some areas, power is suspended as a precautionary measure because Kunda-infested areas and spots with waterlogging are prone to electrical contact incidents. As per the criticality and sensitivity, the power utility follows an order of priority in each area for restoration, starting from repair of damaged high-voltage lines, feeders or substations, if any.

Next in order comes strategic installations including hospitals, fire, and water pumping stations followed by restoration of power to large areas, then smaller neighborhoods and finally individual customers. In areas with waterlogging, power restoration efforts can only be initiated following the removal of standing water.

KE is approaching local administration, provincial and federal government bodies for coordinated efforts to cope with the challenges KE encounter during and after rain to ensure reliable and safe supply of electricity as well as swift restoration efforts.

The power utility is sensitizing its consumers on all platforms and channels including traditional media, SMS, social media and customer care centers about precautions to be taken by the public to avoid electrical contact incidents during monsoon and it also urges all concerned stakeholders including representatives of different areas to help educate masses in this regard.

KE has established a wide range of customer care platforms and in case of long waiting time at KE’s call center 118, consumers can also approach KE via SMS to 8119 or via email at customer.care@ke.com.pk or via Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/kelectricpk) or via Twitter (https://twitter.com/kelectricpk) or via KE Live mobile app.

While Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi is set to produce a film titled Balakot – The True Story, that tells the story of the moustached Abhinandan Varthaman who became the Indian national hero, Pakistan is all set to turn the incident into a comedy film.

Khalil ur Rehman Qamar is all prepared to make a film on the Indian pilot and actor Shamoon Abbasi will be playing the lead role.

Government Finally Takes Responsibility by Launching Fumigation Campaign for Flies in Karachi

house flies in karachi

Bakra eid 2019 in Pakistan this year coincided with heavy monsoon rains, leaving Karachi in a horrible state.

Rain in Karachi already does enough damage, thanks to the lack of infrastructure and initiative from the government’s side. Pair it with bakra eid and you have blood and animal hides and insides floating all over the city, turning the already dirty water red, and ensuring the city smells even worse than the usual sewage stench.

Needless to say, this also resulted to an increased population of houseflies in Karachi.

So much so that, instead of the mausam, makhiyaan became the new small talk topic.

People have been discussing how houseflies have conquered Karachi, what sprays they are using to battle the problem, and how irresponsible the government has been in this regard.

So the good news is, over the weekend, the government took the initiative to start a fumigation campaign on the directive of Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar. For the campaign, around 40 vehicles have been deployed to clean every district of Karachi.

Insecticide spray has been done in all zones of District Malir, while District East will be looked after on August 25; while fumigation drive will be conducted in districts Central, West, Malir and District Council on August 26, 27, 28 and 29 respectively.

The Mayor specifically instructed that no area shall remain without fumigation and, if required, the drive would continue as long as the end result is achieved.

It is good to see the Pakistani government taking responsibility to help improve the city’s condition.

Experienced Twitter User Warns Everyone of Mrs. Khan’s Service, Calls her Untrustworthy

mrs khan exposed by twitter user

Mrs. Khan aka the Rishta Aunty has been under fire ever since 92 News invited her over to discuss the increasing divorce rate in Pakistan and its impact.

A lot of women and even men were furious over her orthodox, obnoxious views, and made sure to slam the woman left, right, and center.

However, things might just get worse for Mrs. Khan now, as a Twitter user has taken to her account to expose Mrs. Khan for being untrustworthy.

5 Reasons Women SHOULDN’T Shouldn’t Get Married – According to Rishta Aunty

Take a look at what she shared:

Here’s what the story is in a nutshell:

A divorced man with a daughter contacted Mrs. Khan when he wanted to marry again. Mrs. Khan had a list of potential rishtas, out of which the boy’s family visited one. The families liked each other but Mrs. Khan refused to tell the girl’s family about the boy’s divorce.

When the boy’s family expressed disapproval and inquired the reason, here is what she had to say:

Don’t tell them now, tell them once the marriage takes place. Then they will be unable to do anything.

The job of a match maker is to bring together families so a bond can be formed between them in the future. The bond is sacred, and should be founded on love and trust.

However, in a society like ours, divorce is considered a taboo and frowned upon. So in a way, it is understandable why a match making business owner would want to hide such details; if they tell the truth, their business will suffer.

This still does not justify lying and cheating just to get more business. If Rishta Aunties like Mrs. Khan continue with such a lack of principles and integrity, marriages will continue to suffer and the divorce rate she loves discussing will continue to rise.

Famous Pakistani Fashion Designer Slams UN for Male Dominated Discussion on WOMEN Development

un women

It is no secret that the Pakistani society is highly patriarchal, and slowly and gradually, a change can be seen.

The major issue lies in the fact that, in a country whose female population is marginally more than the male population, there is little representation when it comes to politics and decision making.

Recently, UN Pakistan’s account posted a tweet about 4-day long consultations on Punjab Women Development Policy Implementation Framework.

The discussion included a wide range of critical issues including but not limited to the following:

  • reproductive rights and health
  • menstrual hygiene
  • mother and child health
  • emergency response services
  • anti-quack campaigns

The topics are purely related to women and their rights and issues, and it seems absurd that there is only ONE woman in the panel. Men are making decisions on how women should be treated by the state, and perhaps that is why development for women is so slow?

Social media noticed that, and was furious, to say the least.

Have a look at what people had to say in response to UN Pakistan’s post:

“Where are the women, UN WOMEN?”

Isn’t that the right question to ask?

Some decided to take a more sarcastic approach to address the lack of gender diversity:

People are beginning to take UN Women nothing more as a joke because of this absurdity, and that is really sad.

Famous Pakistani designer, Deepak Perwani, also took notice and made sure to leave a remark:

We are glad to see that people have started noticing these things, and identifying a problem is the first step towards solving it.

What are your thoughts on UN Women’s lack of gender diversity?

FX Volatility & Overall FX Regime Discourage Foreign Investors

Dawlance

Mr. Khan has almost 29 years of experience and is an accomplished and regionally experienced executive, seasoned in pivotal hands-on leadership roles within major national and multinational enterprises, providing strategy, operations, finance and accounting leadership in complex transformational environments.

Most recently he was the Deputy CEO at Dawlance since February 2019 and has also been the CFO & Director Finance at Dawlance in the past.

He holds a Master and a Bachelor degree from the London School of Economics and is a certified director.

BR Research recently had a detailed conversation with Mr. Khan; edited transcripts of which are produced below:

BR Research: How have things changed around Dawlance after its takeover by Arçelik A.S. Turkey in terms of product focus, sales & marketing, and distribution?

Umar Ahsan Khan: I think it has been a very exciting and fast paced journey that we have embarked on.  Since the acquisition in November 2016, even though it has not even been a full 3 years yet, in many ways Dawlance is a whole new company. Being part of a global giant like Arçelik has opened up new avenues of growth, knowledge and opportunities.

Dawlance is a name that was always synonymous with reliability and quality. After the Arçelik takeover, our entire focus has been on three major areas: enhancing the safety culture at our factories; improving our product platform so as to enhance customer experience; and developing our employees and the workplace environment.

Our customer is central to all business decisions. The Dawlance promise of reliability permeates every action taken by us and it was for this reason that our immediate actions revolved around making improvements in our factories and our product design. At the same time, the challenge also remained to keep our prices low without compromising on quality.

Since the acquisition, not only did we enhance safety standards and productivity at our factories, we also expanded our product lines and tried to bring in an exciting combination of locally developed and imported products.

On the marketing side, we energised our media presence and through our ad campaigns, we have tried to bring our connect with our customers even close where we reinforce the fact that our promise of “reliability” to our customers now spans generations. In fact, thanks to product quality improvements, we have enhanced our warranty period for most products. These now extend up to 12 years in many cases while at the same time we continue to provide support through our 24 hour After Sales Service coverage.

BRR: How much has been injected in the company since the acquisition? What has it been used for?

UAK: You can imagine the level of commitment that Arçelik has made to Pakistan by the fact that since acquisition no dividend has been asked of us. On the contrary, over $60 million of Investments have been made at the factories and infrastructure. In addition to the safety and productivity improvements I mentioned earlier, we have set up entire new production lines for making automatic washing machines and water dispensers. We have also improved our existing refrigerator and chest freezer models and introduced new models in all categories.

We are clear that only those manufacturers will survive in this market that have their own technology. For this purpose, we have enhanced our R&D infrastructure and now have state of the art product testing and development facilities, and this is an area we will continue to focus on keenly. We have also improved our packaging to ensure that despite the poor road infrastructure, our products reach our customers in perfect condition.

BRR: What kind of market structure do white goods have in Pakistan? What is Dawlance’s USP?

UAK: Unlike developed countries, we still have a long way to go as far as development of white goods market is concerned. Unfortunately, due to low consumer affordability, market penetration for white goods still remains very low, especially in the rural areas where at best families will either have only basic single tub washing machines or a small size refrigerator.

The other issue is the poor quality of products that are flooding the market. Exploiting consumer affordability, a number of players have flooded the market with cheap, poor quality products that are neither durable nor do they perform well under local conditions. As consumer education is low, unfortunately, it is our most vulnerable customer who is just entering the market that gets exploited the most with poor quality and sub-standard products.

As no mandatory safety or energy certifications have been put in place by the government, local manufacturers as well as importers have complete freedom to bring inappropriate products to the market. Ultimately, it is the consumer that suffers.

For the last over 30 years, Dawlance’s USP has been consistent. We endeavor to provide our customers with products that have been designed keeping in mind local conditions and cultural requirements. Our products will be “Reliable”, and we deliver this USP at an appropriate value that matches customer affordability.

BRR: What is Dawlance’s market share today? Can you give a breakup of the market share for different product categories like refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners etc.?

UAK: As you may be aware, there is no third party data available in respect of retail sales in the white goods sector in Pakistan. In addition, there is also a large quantum of grey channel products that are in the market whose import and sale are both undocumented.

Due to these limitations, we are constrained to work out the market estimates. However, I can confidently say that we dominate the refrigerator and microwave market while in respect of all other categories, such as deep freezers and air conditioners, we are in the top three.

We have now also introduced small domestic appliances and cooking solutions such as Hoods and Hobs and Built in Oven. I am confident that in the next few years you will see a sizeable presence by us in these categories as well.

BRR: How did the budgets fiscal measures affect your industry?

UAK: The major thrust of the government in the current budget has been to document the economy especially the small traders and retail sector. Broadening of the tax base is imperative for the economy and we are at a stage where there is no other option. The government has to enhance their revenue base as we – the documented corporate sector is already paying well over our due share. I believe the markets will recalibrate themselves and payment of tax shall be accepted as an inevitable cost of doing business and the markets will move on.

However, one disappointment that I felt in the budget was the fact that the government has removed the tax relief provided on investments in new plant and machinery. I strongly believe this needs to be re-examined and reinstated. What little revenue this action is generating for the government shall be more than eroded by the long term detrimental effect of reduced investment and plant modernisation.

BRR: The country is in austerity mode. How do you see the retail landscape changing in Pakistan?

UAK: It is an unfortunate situation, but I think it was necessary to take the steps that the government has taken for long term economic stability. Certainly, there is a pronounced change in the market and a drop in consumer spending on the back of reduced disposable income.  However, you must realise that while market growth has slowed, there is little shrinkage. For the middle class consumer, refrigerators, washing machines and even one or two air conditioners in the house are not a luxury but a necessity. So even though these may be more expensive to buy for the customer, they will manage to make any necessary purchases that they require.

On the retail side, I think you will see consumers trying hard to find bargains. There will be much more comparison shopping and people will try to make full use of special offers or sales. IMTs and LMTs are proof of this phenomenon. They are in touch with consumer psyche and in line with expectations try to position themselves in a manner where they are seen to offer better value. Their market share will continue to grow as will online and e-commerce. We also see more offtake through installment sales via banks and hire purchase dealers.

BRR: How hard will this stabilisation phase hit the middle class and the spending patterns for white goods? How do you see your volumes in the next three years?

UAK: I believe the next one and a half to two years will be difficult for everyone – not just the middle class. And after that the macro economic measures being taken by the government will Insha’Allah start to pay dividends. Documentation of economy and broadening of tax base will be key to achieving this success.

A couple of changes in consumer spending behavior will become very noticeable. Firstly, consumers will try to put off their spending decision until absolutely necessary; there will be little impulse buying. So the replacement cycle is extending and we are trying to support our customers by enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of our after-sale service setup. Secondly, consumers will be in the market for bargains; basic no frill models and smaller sizes will sell more as consumers try to conserve cash.

To be honest, I am less worried about volumes as I am about ensuring that we are able to match our product offerings with the customers’ changing requirements that will be taking place as a result of the austerity. We are a young nation with 63 percent of our population under 25 years. New households will continue to be set up and market growth will happen albeit at a slower pace.

BRR: How much has cost of production risen for you following currency devaluation?

UAK: I think the effect has been significant as has been the case with all other industries in the country. We are reliant on imports for our raw material and the devaluation impact hits us directly as does the effect of rising energy costs. I think we can easily say that over the last two years our production costs have gone up by well over 40 percent. We have tried to take measures to keep the impact from being transferred to our customers through a combination of productivity enhancements and efficiency improvements. However, I believe now we are at a point where like other industries we have no choice but to pass on costs to the market.

BRR: Will you be able to pass on some of the increased costs to customers?

UAK: As I mentioned earlier, the consumer is going to be looking for value. Dawlance is uniquely positioned to offer its customers this value as we are the only appliance manufacturer that has an almost 40-year history of Pakistan operations. We understand the local market and its requirements and our products have been designed in line with these requirements. And now we are part of Arçelik and have access to their technology and R&D base, so we are improving upon this even further.

The reason why I am emphasising this is because going forward, the consumer will demand two things, value and reliability, and we are confident of delivering both. All our focus is to ensure the best possible consumer experience at an affordable price. If we are to offer this to our customers, passing on reasonable cost increases will not be an issue. Bottomline is that the customer must understand that when they buy Dawlance, it is a purchase decision they can enjoy with ease of mind for years versus buying substandard products that will last a short period only.

BRR: Are there any white goods that are anti cyclical – that is they will continue to grow in volumes despite the hard economic times?

UAK: Yes, certainly. I see growth despite the challenging economic situation. As I said in the beginning, the market penetration for white goods in our country is quite low. Appliances considered necessary in the rest of the world are still luxuries here.

The younger generation has a very different way of thinking, and they allocate a significant value to their own time. Once they see that through the use of white goods the time saved on household chores would become available for other more value-added activities, they will keep adding these products to their households. I think we will continue to see growth in microwave ovens, washing machines including the automatic ones and all small domestic appliances.

BRR: How much of smuggling of white products into Pakistan an issue for you?

UAK: Unfortunately, like all corporates that are fully tax compliant, we are also affected by the grey economy. For us, it is less an issue of smuggling, although there is that as well. It is more of misdeclaration whether it is misdeclaration at the ports or in the form of under invoicing, in respect of sales tax non-compliance or understatement of income. While we are fully Sales and Income Tax and Custom Tariff compliant, if other entities are not, we are deprived of a level playing field and our competitiveness is hampered.

I assure you, not just us but all tax complaint corporates will welcome any move made by the government to bring the grey economy into the tax net. In fact, there are some categories that we are not operating in today – television to name an example – where due to the rampant smuggling, we just cannot enter the market as we would be unable to compete with the undocumented imports that are leaking through our borders.

BRR: Has there been any kind of Research and Development initiative taken up at Dawlance?

UAK: Absolutely. We are very focused on constantly improving our products. We need to ensure that any new development in the white goods market is also introduced and made available to our customers. At the same time, we understand we need to modify the product to make it suitable for the local market conditions.

We have developed state of the art testing labs and since acquisition by Arçelik, our research team size has increased many fold. And over the coming years, I am sure the Pakistan’s market will see the fruit of their labour. Already we have developed and introduced to the market, energy saving and low voltage solutions. You will Insha’Allah see even more such offerings in the market that we hope the consumer shall also find exceptional.

BRR: We have seen the opening up of Arçelik’s first Dawlance store in Peshawar post acquisition. What is different about this store? Are there others in the offing?

UAK: The Mono Shop concept is to create a space for consumers to not just be able to see all Dawlance products under one roof but also experience their usage and see with their own eyes how the product shall perform in their own homes post purchase. This is a relatively common concept in the developed world however we were the first to bring it to Pakistan in home appliances. Now the prospective buyer gets a far more immersive feel of the product and is able to purchase with greater confidence.

This was getting more and more important to us because as our product range increases, even our mid-sized dealers find it difficult to be able to accommodate all our products in the same store, while product demonstration becomes even more of a challenge.

There is a plan in place and we intend to open other similar stores across the country with our partner dealers. You will hopefully be seeing these soon in all major metropolitan cities in the country.

BRR: With respect to dwindling FDI, what do you think are the key bottlenecks in Pakistan?

UAK: I think for the initial part of the decade, the issue was the law and order situation that we were facing as a nation. Alhamdulillah we have turned the corner on that challenge and foreign investors do not have that issue any more.

Now it is more a question of fiscal stability. Of course, the rapid devaluations and FX volatility will discourage potential investors as they will keep waiting for the rupee to bottom out before they make any investments else there is an erosion of value.

The other issue is that of the overall FX regime. The foreign investor needs to be confident that an investment into Pakistan is not a one-way street. They want full assurance that they will have access to a dividend stream that they can rely on flowing through unhindered. Right now, flow of funds is closely examined by the State Bank, and given our circumstances I understand that this is necessary. Unfortunately, foreign investors are not used to such extensive procedural oversight at least in the flow of funds.

Finally, all potential foreign investors require a settled taxation structure, we are still making far too many rapid changes in our tax and policy structure and that shakes their confidence.

BRR: Arçelik is the biggest Turkish investment in Pakistan. What other sectors do you believe have the potential to attract Turkish investors?

UAK: We are still a developing country and I think the value proposition we offer as a nation is unrivaled in the region. I think we remain extremely attractive in any area that has the potential to exploit our population base and growing middle class. Food, FMCG, housing and building materials as well as chemicals are sectors where I believe we have the ability to easily attract foreign players from Turkey and other countries.

BRR: What are your plans for Dawlance for the next five years?

UAK: I think we have immense potential. I see Dawlance as a platform where we are ready to deliver on the “Made in Pakistan” endeavor. Going forward I would like to see Dawlance become a regional exporter of White Goods. We not only have the will but also the ability to do so. In fact, we have already started enhancing our exports and have recently exported some units meeting European standards to our Parent company.

God willing with improved productivity at our end and hopefully some government encouragement we can become a serious contender in this market.

Ahmed Tanveer, Head of Fulfillment Takes Pride in Being Part of the Daraz Journey!

Daraz is a one-stop online shopping store in Pakistan to purchase the latest mobile brands, appliances, fashion accessories, and many other retail products.

In order to ensure the swift and efficient delivery of its quality product to a customer’s doorsteps 2-3 days faster and in the best condition, Daraz has four warehouses.

These are located in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad that together cover an area of 200.000 sq feet.

Fulfilled by Daraz is a premium service that ensures that the product is shipped from one of the four warehouses where Daraz runs elaborate quality checks to arrive at the customer’s doorstep 2-3 days faster.

The quality checks are run not only when the product arrives from the vendors but also at the time the product is shipped from the warehouse to the customer.

It’s a great responsibility and certainly not an easy task. However, Ahmed Tanveer, Head of Fulfillment at Daraz, also the man behind the operations for the past 7.5 years makes sure that the needs are met.

We had an opportunity to ask him about the logistics and detailed planning that goes on behind the scenes.

How long have you been working with Daraz and how would you rate that experience?

I have been a part of the Daraz family for the past 7 years. It has been both a great journey and a roller coaster ride. I feel really proud that I was part of the whole process. It began from the time we built things from scratch sitting together in a small room brainstorming on the name and logos to currently where now we are part of the Alibaba group.

What are the challenges that you came across in this field and how do you plan to overcome them?

The main objective is to ensure the right product is delivered to the right customer in the right time frame so everything has to be perfectly aligned; that itself is a big challenge at this scale. Our top focus is customer experience and seller experience ensuring how we can make it better for the customers to purchase it and for the sellers to sell it. All our decisions, projects and discussions are based on achieving this common company-wide goal.

What is Dex and how does it serve Daraz and its customers?

Dex is Pakistan’s first logistics company designed specifically for e-commerce. The main objective is to deliver fast and in a manner where we can enhance our customer experience. We have 1,300 riders in 30 cities helping us achieve this objective. More than 50% of Daraz deliveries are done through Dex and the delivery time is 1-2 days faster than our external partners.

How have the logistics and delivery services at Daraz evolved and developed over the years?

Daraz started as an online fashion retailer and now has 100+ categories from FMCG, groceries to automobiles. We had to beef up our logistics to cater to all this demand while ensuring we offer better service to our customers.

We started with 1 fulfillment center covering an area of 2,000 sq ft. and now we have 4 in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad with a footprint of 200,000 sq ft. Furthermore, Daraz has now employed more than 500 people at these centers.

We had a lot of recent developments in our last-mile delivery with Dex which is now handling more than 50% of Daraz packages.

Daraz also operates 50+ hubs across Pakistan through which customers get personalized service, returns are made easier and one-day deliveries are handled.

How does Daraz work to build trust among the customer base through logistics?

Customer commitment is one of the core values of our organization. We put in 100% of our efforts to ensure that we make our end-to-end customer journey great -from the point where an order is placed to the time, it is delivered ensuring customer satisfaction.

How has Daraz responded to industry challenges with regards to customer satisfaction, as an e-commerce shopping platform?

There is certainly a big challenge as the ecosystem of our country is not integrated. However, we are expanding our fulfillment centers, hubs, and delivery service through dex. We believe with a focus on keeping the customer at the center of everything we are increasing our customer satisfaction and building the trust that is essential for an e-commerce platform

Camon 12 Air

A new mid-ranger by TECNO, Camon 12 Air, packed with some incredibly powerful features, is arriving in the local market pretty soon as suggested by some rumors.

The rumors of this upcoming phone emerged right after the successful launch of the company’s phone, Spark Go.

TECNO Camon series has already been praised by a lot of tech enthusiasts for their advanced cameras that capture crystal clear and high definition images. It is quite evident that their upcoming Camon 12 Air will keep up with the tradition.

tecno camon 12 air

A leaked image circulating on the internet shows that the smartphone will feature a triple camera setup.

This was inevitable owing to the fact that this series has its major focus placed on remarkable camera quality. Rumors further reveal that this new addition to the company’s Camon series will have a powerful battery of 4000 mAh so, users won’t have to worry about charging the phones every now and then.

Camon 12 Air is also rumored to feature the latest Android Operating system. Some sources have also claimed that the phone will feature 4GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage.

A lot of tech experts consider TECNO to be growing its presence substantially in Pakistan’s market. The rapid growth is due to the company’s dedication towards bringing the latest handsets that would not cost you a fortune.

If this smartphone manufacturer keeps moving with the same pace and maintains its reputation of making premium quality handsets, it wouldn’t take long for TECNO to achieve the status of the top company in smartphone category regionally.

The date of the launch is still unknown but hopefully, the phone will be launched in the upcoming two months.

The price is suggested to be somewhere around 20,000 PKR. Latest features and such economical price is a combo very hard to find these days.

TECNO has already established its manufacturing unit in one of Pakistan’s metropolitan cities, Karachi and this fact clearly reflects that the demand of TECNO smartphones is quite high.

‘Dhoop ki Deewar’: Sajjal Aly & Ahad Raza Mir to Star in Cross-Border Web Series

Dhoop ki Deewar

Pakistani celebrity duo Sajjal Aly and Ahad Raza Mir are reportedly starring in a cross-border web series called ‘Dhoop ki Deewar’.

However, the current dispute between Pakistan and India is quite severe leaving the common man on both sides of the border in a state of constant panic and fear.

While there are talks of war among the political leaders, everyone knows that it’ll do more harm and destruction than good. Those supporting wars are just being blind to the consequences.

There is a great loss of human lives; women and children who are left behind when their loved ones lose their lives in the line of duty have to bear the greatest sacrifice.

Renowned writer Umera Ahmed has penned a script that is inspired by true events and heartbreaking stories by the loved ones left behind in similar situations.

The web series is directed and produced by Haseeb Hassan an is set against the backdrop of Kashmir and Pulwama attacks.

The script includes a grievous narrative of the people who lost their loved ones during the time of war.

It also narrates what families and children of martyred army officers go through on both sides of the border.

According to an interview in Instep, Dhoop Ki Deewar tells the story of two teenagers whose lives change permanently overnight.

Jazz Pays USD 291 as First Payment for License Renewal

jazz

Mobile operator Jazz has decided to partially pay USD 291 million to showcase its intention towards renewing its license in Pakistan.

This decision is based on the fact that Jazz does not want to inconvenience its 60 million subscribers.

The company has a strong affinity with Pakistan and it seems it will not allow squabbles with Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to impact its connectivity services nationwide.

Explaining the payments, Jazz CEO Aamir Ibrahim said:

the court asked us two days ago to show some commitment behind our claim and we offered to pay the entire $291 million.

On Thursday we will get the order on this as financial security, then the court will hear the rest of the case.

We are a long term player in Pakistan, have been here for 25 years and will be here for another 25.

Licenses of Jazz (license owned by Warid) and Telenor expired in May 2019 and both players have opposed the proposed renewal cost of $450 million, claiming that Ufone was given the renewal in 2014 at a cost of $291 million.

They argue that any price above that would be unfair because they would have to operate for the next 10 years at an uncompetitive price.

Both these operators have taken the matter to court. The operators say their original license already carries a clause saying the licenses can be renewed for the same price at which they were acquired.

It is also worthy to mention here that both these operators have invested heavily in Pakistan since their inception.

Jazz is a leader not just in terms of subscriber base and mobile broadband users but also plays a huge role in assuring Pakistan reaches its United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030 through the provision of digital tools to the youth.
