Pakistani Mangoes Beat Indian Mangoes in the Middle East Fruit Market This Time!

mangoes can cause cancer

Mangoes are one of the few reasons why Pakistanis and Indians eagerly wait for summer time, and the two countries are also two of the major producers and exporters of the fruit worldwide.

There is not a single doubt about this fruit being the king of fruits. However, do you have any idea how big a role this fruit plays in generating revenue for the country?

Mangoes for Skin: 5 Reasons Mangoes Should be Part of Your Skincare Routine

Did you know, Pakistan is the world’s sixth-largest exporter of the fruit?

According to a report, the production of mangoes increased to 1.5 million tons this year, as compared to 2018 (1.3 million). The middle East remained the top export destination for Pakistani mangoes, accounting for over 70 percent of the share of total mango exports this year.

Here’s what Waheed Ahmed, Patron-in-Chief of the All Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters, Importers and Merchants Association (PFVA) had to say about the milestone:

“The Middle East countries remained the biggest market of Pakistani mangoes as more than 82,800 tons were exported there till mid-September, which is a record, and is more than the (total) export of last year which was 82,000 tons,”

“We exported the most mangoes to UAE followed by Iran, where volume was 28,000 tons. Oman was another big market with 13,500 tons. The mangoes exported to Saudi Arabia remained at 3,700 tons,”

He also mentioned that the export of mangoes will continue till mid October 2019. This might lead us to achieving a record of 130,000 tons of export by the end of the season.

Dubai-based Faisal Altaf, managing director of private trading Company noted that this year Pakistani mangoes have take the lead over their biggest competitor, Indian mangoes:

“This time, an extra volume of Pakistani mangoes came to the market in UAE, which gave a tough time to the Indian product. They went out early and we also fetched a better price than them,”

“Our mangoes are exported in open-top shipment containers which are banned in UAE. They have granted a temporary waiver this year but we should start preparations straight away to deal with this issue for next year to avoid losing our share,”

Kurkure’s Latest TVC Featuring Iqra Aziz & Ahmed Ali Akber Makes us Miss Our College Days!

iqra aziz and ahmed ali

Life throws unexpected twists at us ! Looking back a few years ago, we’d probably never have thought that the joker of the classroom would be working in a multi-national firm, or that a back-bencher would score the highest marks in the finals.

College years are probably one of the best times in our lives. It is the time for making the best of friends who stick with you through the best and worst of times – helping with exam preparations and also supporting you through heart breaks!

The memories are precious. We all have been a part of a group that stands apart .There’s always going to be a bhukkar, a show-off, a know-it-all, a fashionista, the self-proclaimed stud, and of course that one terha yaar that is the life of the gang.

While everyone has their differences and come from different walks of life, just reaching out to them makes things a whole lot better.

They encouraged us to try our first adrenaline pumping dare, gave a shoulder for us to cry on, lent their ears to listen to our pain, and gave moral support that got you through anything life threw at you.

Often, these friends help bring out the worst and the best in you. They teach you how to listen from one ear and throw the trash out the other, and give you the lamest of advice that actually works!

However, out of all of these amazing individuals, the terha yaar is the all-in-one package we all need. The all-rounder of the group that keeps everyone together like glue! This clever friend always has the best jugaars and terhi solutions ready for every problem making them the real yaaron ka yaar!

The terha yaar is a very rare species to find in colleges. The beautiful specimen will stand-up for you when you feel like the entire world is conspiring against you and their terhi merhi baatein will have you in fits in seconds.

If your terha yaar is a girl, then boy-oh-boy that boss lady will do anything to prove girls are no less than boys, even if it means going all fast and furious on the streets or in the hallways!

And if your terha yaar is a boy, then you know you have a wing-man who will smooth  things out for you and help you get your scene on!

Man, those are the days! Whats more is that all of these amazing college memories have returned with a nostalgic hit in Kurkure’s latest campaign.

The TVC captures the exact feel one goes through during their college days. Not only that, the brand has managed to portray every character in each group of friends that made those days the best.

Kurkure knows that only a selfless terha yaar with their terhi solutions can save the day and with that ideology in mind, the brand has hit the hammer on the nail!

https://youtu.be/MTpxmOiM-8U

The Mera Terha Yaar TVC features Iqra Aziz and Ahmed Ali Akber along with Hamzah and Mustafa.

What we really loved about the TVC is how Iqra does not let the myth that girls cannot drive. She accepts the challenge, takes the driver seat, and goes on to break that stereotype like a boss!

Just like our terha yaar, Kurkure is all about friendship and sharing!

“What sets Daraz apart?” Saman Javed Head of Marketing Communications Discusses Online Retailer’s Success

Saman Javed

Online shopping has come as a relief for many if not all of us, we don’t have to force ourselves to drive to a store far away just to purchase a few items.

Thanks to eCommerce platforms like Daraz, shopping has become more than convenient. However, what we do not realize is that platforms like Daraz are a whole different world within themselves.

Everything from the website to the application, categories and process have been updated and made customer and user friendly along time. With new customers and more products being added everyday, Daraz is continuously adapting.

To enlighten us further, Saman Javed, Head of Marketing Communications, Daraz (Alibaba Group), shares that around 2 million customers use the platform every day. The application has also been very well received with over 5 million downloads.

In the last 5 years, the audience has grown in numbers and so have the destinations. The audience ranges from young buyers to seniors, all genders included; anyone and everyone with an internet connection loves what Daraz has to offer.

Daraz now offers over 7 million products in over 100 categories – be it daily groceries, fruits and vegetables, electronics, fashion or even cars – there is something for everyone. This shows how the platform has adapted to the needs of its customers and is willing to walk the extra mile to provide convenience.

With a massive audience, we wanted to know how does Daraz manage when super crazy sales like 11.11 are around the corner. According to Saman, November is a very exciting time for Daraz. Last year when 11.11 was brought to Pakistan, the event spoke for itself.

Last year we launched 11.11, the world’s biggest sale day, it was the biggest event we’ve ever done. A lot of time and effort goes into it. We plan for months. All teams are knee-deep in preparing for this year’s 11.11.

For this year, preparations have already begun for 11.11 and these will be even bigger than the previous years says Saman. Daraz plans on making these campaigns such that every Pakistani (and hopefully non-Pakistanis too) will talk about for years to come!

Daraz has and always will promise to give their customer the best deals and discounts and continue to invest in the infrastructure to make shopping a painless and seamless experience.

While on the topic of major sales and events, we asked if there are complications and bumps in the way. But according to Saman, in the past 5 years, things have become easier.

As more customers have become used to online shopping and now know the ins and out of Daraz after using it for years, the communication has become better and stronger between the platform and its users.

Over the past few years, customers have become more trusting of ecommerce businesses. There are a lot more habitual online shoppers today than there were a few years ago.

With features like instant message, customers are able to get on the spot help. Plus, with time, customers now know more about technology and its anatomy. A sizable number of them have shifted to digital payment solutions and approximately 30% of payments made on Daraz are pre-paid.

While eCommerce has become a walk in the park for customers, it has also become a growth opportunity for businesses. According to Saman, Daraz has 30,000 marketplace sellers, all of whom have been educated about eCommerce operations via the Daraz University completely free of cost.

Every month, Daraz educates 2,000 new sellers on how to grow their business through Daraz University. In addition to the training, Daraz is giving sellers access technology and tools that impossible to imagine a decade ago.

Every month, Daraz educates 2,000 new sellers on how to grow their business. Sellers have access to a large pool of customers in all corners of the country. They also have access to digital payment options and also benefit from big marketing budgets.

They now have access to digital payment options and can also benefit from Daraz’s big marketing budgets. In terms of infrastructure, Daraz is building a fully digitized logistics network with 47 hubs across the country to facilitate their seller base.

When asked how does the company gauge customer satisfaction on the eCommerce platform, Saman shared that the data science team constantly monitors customer behavior and patterns – the learning greatly influencing decisions.

Customer satisfaction is key. It’s not about how much money the company wants to make, it’s about the number of people they serve and offer a good service to. -She added

Daraz conducts regular NPS surveys and focus groups to gauge customer satisfaction. The data science team constantly monitors customer behavior and patterns – the leanings greatly influence our decisions.

Last but not the least, we asked Saman how Daraz is different from other eCommerce platforms and how it competes with its rivals in Pakistan. Saman shared that Daraz is the leading eCommerce platform in the region for more than one reason.

  • Infrastructure: Daraz has focused heavily on infrastructure and logistics in the past year to find solutions to the challenges that eCommerce companies face. It is the only ecommerce company working on fully digitizing the industry. Last year, it launched Daraz Express (DEX), which is the country’s first logistics company designed specifically for ecommerce operations. DEX, that delivers over 55% of the Daraz orders has helped us shorten the order fulfillment time and thus, enhance customer satisfaction. They are also working with other logistics companies and helping them digitized.
  • Technology:  Daraz has the best in class technology backed by artificial intelligence and machine learning. The technologies allow us to constantly innovate and offer our customers and sellers opportunities not available anywhere else.
  • Financial Inclusion: Wide acceptance of digital payments is the key to a prosperous ecommerce ecosystem. Daraz is working very hard every day to facilitate financial inclusion for all. In the same light, Daraz wallet was launched, a closed-loop wallet driving 50% of Daraz’s prepayment share.
  • Seller education: Technology and seller education are key to creating a safe and happy shopping experience. Daraz is investing heavily on our sellers, in educating them, providing them assistance and the tools to bring the best service levels. It is leading the eCommerce industry because we are driven by two things: to empower it sellers and improve the customer experience. These are the bottom lines for all the initiatives that are taken. Daraz has educated more than 30,000 sellers through Daraz University in eCommerce operations.

This year, to preparations for 11.11 have already begun because this will be even bigger than the previous year says Saman. Daraz plans on making this campaign one which every Pakistani (and hopefully a few non-Pakistanis too) will talk about for years to come!

Right now, there are 1,300 Dex heroes so that the packages can be delivered in the shortest time possible, Daraz is also getting the best prices in the market for assortment – the commercial team is on-ground everyday to negotiate with the seller and close a mutually beneficial deal, the marketing plans will follow a 360 approach where Daraz plans on leaving no stone un-turned.

It’s Shaniera Akram, Not Wasim Akram’s Wife!

shaniera akram

We have often come across post and have heard on reputable stages that a woman is often referred to as someone’s wife or mother or any other reference.

However, what we often forget is, “she has a name”. One of the guests at the panel at the 6th Islamabad Literature Festival featuring, Nadeem F. Paracha, kept referring to Shaniera Akram as Wasim’s wife.

A lady from the audience shouted out loud that Wasim’s wife has a name! As soon as this comment was passed, a loud roar of screams and applause took over the audience.

Shaneira Akram took to her Twitter to talk about the incident asking about who was that amazing woman who stood up for her.

Who is this amazing woman. I just love you #SheHasAName You go Girl

Careem NOW Officially Launches in Pakistan

Update: Careem has officially launched its food delivery service called Careem NOW in Pakistan.

Earlier in May, we had reported that the service had started in Riyadh and that Pakistan, Karachi in particular would be its next location.

The service will initially cater to Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and Clifton and will then be spread out through the city.

Careem is set to invest over $150 million in Careem NOW. The food delivery market in the region Careem operates in is predicted to grow to around $25 billion by 2022. Careem already has over 33 million customers on its platform and an existing logistics infrastructure according to the official press release.

Careem NOW launch partners include Subway, Baskin Robbins, Esquires Coffee, local favorites like OPTP, Broadway Pizza, Burger Lab, Easy, Juicy Lucy, Chatterbox Cafe, Hobnob and upscale dining offerings like Cafe Aylanto, Fuschia, Koel Cafe, Tao and hidden gems such as 2 Guys 1 Grill and Yoshis! Additional outlets are being added every week.

Careem NOW is giving 50% to all new customers. Careem ride-hailing customers will be able to seamlessly log-in to the Careem NOW app with their existing Careem credentials.

2nd May, 2019: Careem is not just a ride-hailing service, it is also a food delivery service as well! The service officially named Careem NOW has been launch in Riyadh.

Accordingly to Middle East Logistics, the service will be launched in Karachi next followed by Jordan’s capital -Amman in the upcoming months.

Careem NOW has been operating in Riyadh for about 4 months now and has been expanding since.

The service helps customers order food from hundreds of restaurants and the Careem Captains deliver the food while offering real-time delivery tracking.

Only 15 percent of the food delivery market in our region currently operates via the app.

The idea of having to call up a restaurant and read out a list of items and hope it’s all written down correctly are increasingly over. Ordering by the app is how the industry is moving.

The younger generations are driving digital ordering – which in the US is growing three times faster than dine-in traffic – and it’s a trend we believe is coming here.

-Adeeb Warsi, managing director of Careem NOW

Another publication by the name Caterer has also shared similar news of Careem NOW launching in Karachi in the upcoming months.

PCB Chairman has Great Hopes for Cricket from the Royal Visit

Royal Visit Pakistan

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ehsan Mani has high hopes from the Royal Visit planned in October.

Mani believes that the success of Prince William’s and Kate’s visit will encourage cricket from countries like England and Australia.

PCB is already actively campaigning to revive international cricket in Pakistan. The country is currently hosting Sri Lanka for a six-match limited-overs series.

The series is very crucial to the efforts made by Paksitan as the country has been deprived of international cricket since the terror attack on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore in 2009.

A decade later, hopes of international cricket has returned to the country. However, Ehsan Mani is very optimistic that this is just the beginning. He strongly believes that PCB will continue at this campaign and bring cricket back home.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 2019 Series: Traffic Plan & Routes for Karachi

Mani’s optimism springs from a series of recent developments including the ongoing series against Sri Lanka and a visit to Pakistan of top Cricket Australia officials including its CEO.

Price William and Kate Middleton are coming to Pakistan. You will be amazed how much of a difference it makes to countries like Australia, England and New Zealand. If the Royal family has the confidence to visit then they feel better -Ehsan Mani told The News

The Royal couple is due for a 4-day visit from October 14-18. It will be the first visit to Pakistan by members of the British Royal Family in 13 years.

Prince William & Kate Middleton to Visit Pakistan in October

After what happened in 2009 there was a shock in the country and in the world. We were in denial. We were blaming everyone else but ourselves because of a lack of professionalism,

What we needed was to have Pakistan genuinely safe. You can’t promote a perception of safety and security by just talking about it. You have to achieve progress on the ground.

They (the foreign teams and officials) have to be convinced that our country was now safe to visit.

Unfortunately in the past there was no forward thinking. Our strategy was to invite teams to Pakistan by paying them. I didn’t agree with it. It would have left the Board bankrupt.

What you needed was to have other people assess the security. That’s why in the PSL (this year) my strategy was to get as many security consultants as possible. We called experts from ICC, from FICA.

There has been positive change. The political situation and political leadership has changed. A lot has been happening which I believe will pave the path for the return of international cricket to Pakistan.

Cricket Australia’s Chief Executive was here last month. Their Chairman is coming soon. In a few weeks time, top ECB officials will be visiting Pakistan. Top officials of Cricket Ireland will also be joining them on the tour.

“The reason why we are inviting these officials is because we want them to experience the security situation in Pakistan themselves. We take them to Islamabad not just to meet our government officials. We also take them to meet top officials of their High Commissions -Mani shared

South Deputy Commissioner Syed Salahuddin Ahmed has issued warnings to shopkeepers in the district as well.

This is the last warning, next time there will be action, he said.

We hope this will give a lesson to the citizens who litter the city without a second thought.

Power Shortfall Expected in Parts of Karachi: K-Electric

load shedding karachi

Since September 29, 2019 the National Transmission and Dispatch Company’s (NTDC) 500KV Hubco-NKI line is under forced outage.

This has resulted to an unforeseen reduction of up to 250 MW in the power supply from the national grid to the K-Electric system.

In the light of rising temperatures and compounded by the insignificant power supply from 150MW wind corridor of the National Grid due to low wind factor, K-Electric is trying to be vigilant about the power shortfall and is making all possible attempts to manage it.

Of course, they are also keeping in mind the hot and humid temperatures due to which citizens might feel the absence of electricity all the more.

Here is what the spokesperson for K-Electric had to say about the situation:

“We remain in close coordination with NTDC officials to minimize the disruption resulting from the power supply situation and ensure the fastest possible resolution to this issue.

The reduced supply from the NTDC, albeit temporarily, may necessitate brief spells of load management, including in exempted areas.

We have informed our valued customers of the situation through SMS and thank them for their patience and understanding during this time. As soon as the NTDC’s maintenance work is completed, the situation with respect to power supply would be normalised across the city. We shall keep our customers informed about the developments and regret the inconvenience caused.”

We hope the news will help you stay prepared for the expected power shortfall.
