HABIB METRO Lights Up Its Flagship Building At Entrance Of I.I.Chundrigar For Breast Cancer Awareness

October is internationally known as the breast cancer awareness month, or Pinktober. In Pakistan, 40,000 women succumb to the disease every year. The aim is to spread awareness regarding breast cancer and educate people regarding the symptoms of cancer to enable early detection; which can greatly reduce the fatalities from this cancer.

To increase awareness of the deadly disease and to equip those at risk to fight it better, HABIB METRO lit up its flagship building (called the HBZ Plaza) which is located at the entrance of Pakistan’s financial street (I.I.Chundrigar Road), in pink colour.

It was a spectacle for the onlookers and passersby as the elegant HBZ glass tower glistened with the pink lights, spreading the message of this noble cause.

In addition to this, the Bank is in process of conducting country-wide physical and virtual wellness sessions for its female staff.

The Bank also celebrated a Pink Day at its head office, various branches and regional offices with its staff participating with pink masks and ribbons.

What Has He Done?

If you’ve sat on a dinner table with elders, we can guarantee you’ve heard grandparents lament boys growing out their hair and girls chopping them off. We’re doing away with societal stereotypes for genders and that’s a huge yay.

However, Imran Abbas’ latest hair transformation is still not being received well.

Why is that?

The star put up a video on Instagram recently in which the hair flip vibes are truly immaculate. He’s flaunting his long, sleek and golden locks. We doubt Rapunzel ever had this much flair. Anyhoo, seems like some either for envious of the Abbas’ mane or they simply found it hilarious.

The sudden rise in cases needs to be controlled for the country as well as the healthcare system to be able to care for those in need. Micro-levels lockdowns have also been imposed in selective areas in Karachi.

Bachat, Car Bazaars Banned in Central District Karachi

An official notification was also issued in regards to the situation.

“In exercise of the powers conferred under Section 3 of the Sindh Epidemic Act 2014, to prevent the general public from the spread of Covid 19.

“All the permissions/NOCs issued from time to time to hold Bachat bazaars, car bazaars, and any other permission for congregations within the jurisdiction of District Central Karachi, are hereby canceled/withdrawn forthwith,” the notification states.

Moreover, those who try to violate the ban will be dealt with strictly. Violators will be punished as well accordingly, Deputy Commissioner Central Muhammad Bakh directed.

“We overall performed 8,448 COVID-19 tests in the province during the past 24 hours,” said Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday.

The death toll from the virus during the period stood at six in the province whereas 222 new cases came forward.

While on Monday, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had announced that COVID-19 cases in Karachi had risen by 4% in just 5 days.

He reached out to the citizens of the metropolis, asking them to cooperate with the authorities.

It is not unjustifiable to say that Ayeza Khan should be ridiculed over her choices. It’s not as if she’s in dire need of money and it’s also not as if she is deaf and blind to the social momentum. In this day and age, promoting a cream that uses harmful substances to whiten the skin of women is simply wrong.

The 13th of October (No, it was not a Friday) was a day full of wonders and surprise. It was the hosting day of one of the most anticipated events of the year. 2020 has seen an enormous amount of full moments. There have been widespread bad news and an overall grim vibe. So, it was refreshing to see the online-only event which hosted the iPhone 12 Launch! So what did they unveil that was not already information? To be honest, they revealed a whole lot of stuff that we were not ready for. It was an eye-opening event.

1. The Opening Sequence

As we all have realized over the past few years, Apple is a lot about flair. They consider it a top priority to engage the audience in the most gripping way possible. So, it came as no big surprise that Apple would go all-in at an online event too. It starting building up its hype at least 2-3 hours before. Tim Cook then tweeted a request of him asking his event playlist to be played. Then, with smooth and near-perfect animation, the logo appeared and the event began.

They started from a blacked-out screen, then they zoomed in, slowly, to an establishment. Every transition made it feel like the opening itself was legendary! This is a major highlight because people wanted something uplifting and cheerful. If Tim Cook had appeared directly, there would have been no buildup. Now let us dive into the product highlights of the event.

2. The First Lap

Apple came running up the circuit with dashing speed. Almost going as fast and smooth as Dash, from The Incredibles, Tim Cook revealed the HomePod Mini! So what is this really? Well, it is a device that allows you to operate home kit devices using voice recognition. It employs the use of Siri as it’s the main source between Human and Machine. It is not a big device, nearly as big as your palm. Yet, it houses some of the most advanced technology to be made so far!

You can play and pause songs, adjust volume and offers 360 Degree Surround Sound. It uses the new S5 chip which is quite new and robust in it’s making. It even has an intercom feature for all your Apple Devices. Apple claims that the device will not record your voice until and unless you say ‘Hey Siri’. So there is a factor of privacy to be kept in perspective.

3. Pulling out the Big Guns!

Now comes the moment everyone was waiting for. With a grand gesture, Apple finally reveals the iPhone 12! It is unlike any other iPhone the world has ever seen. The software and hardware behind it are one to be marvelled at! Apple says that the iPhone 12 is significantly thinner and lighter than it’s predecessor. ‘Tushar Burman’ even dropped a tweet saying that it’s four times more resilient to being dropped. This is due to them using CorningGorilla techniques and body/screen features. The Ceramic Shields destroy any chances of a crack on the first drop!

The iPhones now even have a magnetic back which is safe for use with various devices. They claim that they used 100% rare earth metals for the production of each magnet in the iPhone 12. So far, the iPhone 12 Launch seems to be blowing the audience out of the water!

4. Additional Easter Eggs

The Public became fans of iPhone 12 Mini! It seems like quite a handy, cheaper phone but with flagship capabilities. Of course, this is a compromise on the battery but there is no doubt that its features stand out on their own. It’s camera features technology which has not yet been incorporated in a lot of cameras. Overall, the price range of all four iPhones (Mini, Regular, Pro, Max) is more reasonable than their predecessors.

5. The Secret Reveal

Apple has decided to support and incorporate 5G technology in iPhone 12 and it’s variants, making them state-of-the-art phones. Apple also revealed a beautiful new blue colour for the iPhone 12!

Recovered COVID-19 Patients Can Contract The Virus Again

The pandemic COVID-19 spreading from coronavirus strand brought the world to a standstill. A number of countries went into lockdown and halted all tourism activities for foreigners. Even in Pakistan, the COVID cases reached up to a number of 320,000. But thankfully the recovered COVID-19 patients were more than 305,000.

However, we cannot ignore the fact that more than a quarter-million people experienced worrisome illness. An illness that makes the patient undergo dry cough, diarrhoea and affected taste buds. It also weakens the patient a great deal. Even though the death toll was fairly low for COVID in Pakistan, anyone contracting the virus had their loved ones worried.

COVID is returning

It is also being said that Pakistan will experience another wave of COVID soon and the cases have seen an evident increase once again. And given that the virus thrives in heat, the upcoming heatwave in Karachi is not in favour of Karachiites either.

But there is a myth that needs to be tackled here. Some people are in the illusion that once infected by COVID, people cannot contract it again. This is not true. The medical staff has repeatedly said that we need to exercise precautions even after recovering from COVID because your body has not developed any immunity against it in that time.

COVID’s Twice victim

And the claim was proven when a man in the USA contracted it twice in a span of two weeks. This young adult, aged 25 got tested for COVID. The result came out positive. He was suffering from cough, headache, nausea, sore throat and diarrhoea. But all his symptoms went away by Aril 27, 9 days after he got tested.

In May, two of his tests came negative so clinically he was diagnosed healthy as well. By 28th May, however, he had the symptoms again. This time worse than before. 7 days later tested and got a positive result. He even had to be hospitalized since his lungs were not able to provide oxygen to his body.

Aside from that, he had a fever as well as dizziness and hypoxia. He recovered from the second attack as well. But the doctors had an interesting discovery. They found that the second strand of COVID was different from the first illness. It was more evolved.

So, long story short, recovered COVID-19 patients also need to be careful because COVID can attack again and the second time is much more severe than the first.

Apple is, quite literally, taking gloriously humongous bounds this year. It keeps teasing it’s iPhone 12 Launch and flaunts its latest products too. From the Smart Watch to AirPods, Apple seems to one of the most gripping parts of 2020! The company recently conducted the survey on how much of the general audience aims to buy the iPhone 12. The results came at a staggering 53%, which can be regarded as historical for Apple.

It in interesting as to how many people actually wish to buy the latest iPhone. While most of the focus will be on the iPhone 12 itself, Apple intends to top off the Online-Only event with other products as well. These products include the new AirPods Studio. iPhone mini has turned quite a lot of heads due to its low price and extraordinary features. It is a smartphone which gives serious competition to Samsung’s S20 series. One cannot help but wonder whether iPhone 12’s price leaks and date reveals were accidental or a clever marketing strategy.

Pakistani Students From Chinese Universities Stranded In Pakistan

Many universities turned to online platforms to ensure unhindered education while exercising social distancing in light of the pandemic. Chinese Universities adopted a similar practice. Seeing that, many students returned homes in hopes of getting continued education while being with families. Little did they know that a small period of time would change into months.

Most Pakistanis prefer foreign education over local institutes. Some opt for the United States, for the UK, while some also prefer China. So the Pakistanis studying in Chinese Universities also deemed it a good idea to return to Pakistan while the world tackles the pandemic. Given CPEC, they must have assumed that there won’t be many obstacles. However, it is once you are in the situation that you get to observe the issues closely.

Problems for Pakistani students 

And that came to pass in a few months when these students realized that the Chinese apps don’t work well in the home country. Not to mention that the universities have revoked stipends up until the students return to China, making them financially unstable. And they have no way to go around that situation considering no employer is ready to hire people who cannot commit for a specific time duration.

While the above mentioned had returned to meet with their families, some were home to conduct fieldwork. In their last semester, the postgraduate candidates who would have graduated by now after completing their thesis cannot continue with their lives.

In an interview with a media house, some students mentioned that while some of the apps are not working, a few universities are very unresponsive. Meanwhile, some other universities that are responsive cannot cater to their Pakistani students giving connectivity issues and time differences.

COVID Spread

These students have also tried returning to China, but they have not been successful as of yet. The reason is that China wants to avoid imported cases of the pandemic. This is indeed ironic coming from a country from where the pandemic started and reached the whole world. That said, the pandemic started from Wuhan and Beijing, in particular, has been very successful in containing the spread of COVID. So obviously, they would want to avoid any chances of losing that control.

The whole world knows that we Pakistanis are foodies! We live to eat, and we eat to live. And the one drink we love the most is none other than tea (chai).

Be it someone’s wedding, an office meeting, a dinner at home, or in a restaurant. Be it breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper, for us every time and anytime is ‘chai‘ time.

However, recently an interesting debate has taken over social, which has divided tea lovers into two!

Twitter user Ayeshay (@champagne_lassi) asked social media if they were team #ChaiRusk or team #ChaiPakora? Since then, a massive debate has kick-started on the platform!

Some claim that there is no better combination other than #ChaiRusk, while others are determined that there is nothing more blissful than #ChaiPakora!

Unemployed Karachi University Graduate Opts To Sell French Fries

Even before COVID, Pakistan witnessed rising unemployment. Students would graduate from universities and go on job hunts to be disappointed by the lack of vacancies or negligible salaries. It must have dishearted many individuals, but this Karachi University graduate took it in a stride and figured out a way around the situation.

Arsalan Ahmed, a graduate from the Economics department, went out to look for a job just like many other classmates. Unfortunately, he remained unsuccessful for some time. With the looming issue of financing the family, he had to make a decision soon. And so he did. He gave up on a blue-collar job and opted to go towards being self-employed. But what would be that one business which would work quite well? And the answer was a french fries business.

Social Jockey Interview

Social Jockey interviewed him where he talked about his journey, adding that he had no idea how to make french fries, but he was determined because there was no other way. And gradually, he is learning. He says in the interview that there was no way he was going towards criminal activities. Instead, he requested those leaning towards crime to abstain from them as well. He urged them to have a positive mindset and do good because that would reap better outcomes in the long term.

Arsalan also plans on doing Masters, but he says that since Masters require a large amount of money, he first needs to save for that.

He keeps reiterating that when one puts in hard work, Allah listens.

Self-employment rather than Employment

Interestingly, more and more individuals are opting for self-employment, establishing their businesses. These businesses range from Arsalan’s fries and limca stall to Usman Khan’s fruit stall. The point is that our youth is no more going towards becoming a corporate slave. They are not even getting a chance to. While there is nothing wrong with someone running a roadside business, it does make one wonder what would become of their education. Education which does not even remotely relate to their current occupation.

Hopefully, the Kamyaab Jawan Program will provide a glimmer of hope to such individuals who remained steadfast instead of losing their selves to the financial problems. The Prime Minister Imran Khan announced the program, and it is said to be a helping hand for the country’s youngsters who will be taught professional skills before being put in the vast sea of the professional world.
