Pakistan Cricket To Go Global Through Leading Broadcasters

The resumption of cricket in Pakistan has attracted household sports broadcasters across the globe to partner with the Pakistan Cricket Board and secure media rights for the HBL Pakistan Super League and all home bilateral international matches till 2023.

After premier sports networks PTV Sports and SuperSport had acquired Pakistan and Africa region’s media rights for Pakistan cricket, respectively last year, the PCB has now signed partnerships in North America, the Caribbean, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

As such, fans and supporters of Pakistan cricket will now be able to follow Babar Azam and his side as well as the HBL Pakistan Super League in North America though Willow TV, in the Caribbean through Flow Sports, in the United Kingdom through Sky Sports and in New Zealand through Sky NZ.

Discussions with potential broadcasters in Australia, Middle East and South Asia are underway and further details will be provided in due course.

The PCB had worked in close collaboration with its international media rights consultant Colgan Bauer and carried out a stringent analysis of each market. This included devising rights packaging and processes to enhance competition and quality broadcasters from all markets.

Until the end of 2022, Pakistan has lined-up a series of mouth-watering international cricket and topped up with the HBL Pakistan Super League 2021, 2022 and 2023, fans can brace to experience the most exciting and thrilling cricket to be participated in by some of the modern-day elite cricketers.

Pakistan’s upcoming home bilateral cricket includes:

• 2021 – vs South Africa (Tests & T20Is), New Zealand (white-ball), England (men’s and women’s T20Is) and the West Indies (white-ball)

The digital investment was a cause of COVID, but that’s not to say it will become irrelevant after. The future is virtual, and their investments at the moment are not in vain.

2. Developing New Modes

Some places are doing away with zoom and moving towards a fully integrated social component. The purpose is for you to see which classes your friends are taking. Or to make sure the instructors will be able to call people out and help people with their form. It’s no longer about streaming; it’s about teaching.

3. Revenue Strains

Moreover, several people have fallen out of their working out habits. If they haven’t, they also no longer want to spend money on an online gym— money is scarce as it is. Several studios have gone out of business because they were unable to pay rent. How can everything start all over again?

The Problems Going Forward

While the investments right now may be fruitful for the post-COVID future, too, the problem is something else. The problem is that most of these investments are being taken out of the owner’s’ own pockets. The revenue being generated solely from virtual platforms is nowhere near the regular earnings.

As it is, the pandemic has been a disaster for the fitness industry. A lot of huge brands are getting ready to announce that they are closing in the U.S. Other businesses are at the mercy of landlords.

But at the very end, Mufti Qavi does something that is not just inappropriate but also cringy. He tells her to stick her tongue out and gives her a kiss through a video call.

He answers with, “yes, and you should stay until fajar.” Isn’t that pretty clear he offered her to stay the night? She tells him that he will be paid PKR50,000 for agreeing to do the show aside from the accommodation and transportation. Considering he is being paid for his religious doings, he seems expensive after this video.

That said, we would also like to reiterate that it is pretty clear Hareem is not out of blame either. She could have disconnected the call. She continued on the call, and that’s why the Mufti kept digressing from the topic. But here is another thing. When you are dealing with a client, you cannot possibly give them a shut-up call. And if you do, you can very well be on the losing end. It’s no secret that Mufti Qavi has quite a standing in the television industry. Going against him would lead to a drama, where she would probably end up losing her job. Knowing this, she made the intelligent move of recording everything before taking it to the public.

They tried pinning it on the audience construing the situation in the wrong way. Well, as it turns out, you really can’t get away with wrongdoing. The manager, Awais at Cannoli whom Diya and Uzma made fun of, has been offered a job by Shahbaz Taseer.

He asked the help of Twitterati to trace Awais. And now, he has shared the update that he has spoken to the manager and offered him a job. Let’s see how Awais will respond.

[Update]: The whole social media erupted today as the video of Cannoli owners embarrassing its employees went viral. And all because the manager of the elitist cafe was not speaking the level of English they would. People immediately jumped to defend the manager and rightfully so. Someone even mentioned that Urdu is our language while English is a complex that people have. And it’s true.

One should learn new languages. But judging others to know a skill that is not really required of them is plain shameful. And if they really are rich elites who travel the world, they must also have travelled European countries where English is not the official language. There they will find the managers who do not speak English well, would they do the same to them?

Anyway, the cafe has come forward to respond to it.

Interestingly, they are not apologizing. They have chosen to call that embarrassing interaction as gupshup. But here is a hypothetical situation. Had this been something an employee of them had done, would they have said the same or had they dissociated themselves with that employee?

Speaking English has become the primary determinant of the socioeconomic class you belong to. A professor of mine once said, “rich create jobs, while poor create babies.” This thought, I believe, is the starting point for anyone on their way to be a part of the elitist culture.

Where are the basic etiquettes of being human?

But regardless of what your class is, isn’t it basic etiquettes to be human. It really doesn’t take much, but here is the thing, if the class divide is deeply embedded in you, you can’t do anything but fall deep into the clasps of the elitist mindset. It convinces you that due to your money, you to sit on a pedestal.

Is that not what happened at Cannoli as well? Cannoli is a cafe in Islamabad by Cafe Soul. A video went viral where two women, Uzma and Diya, introduced themselves as the owners of Cannoli. It is important to note that they made this video out of boredom, as they specifically mention at the start of the video.

So the two women introduce themselves and the manager at the cafe. They seemed respectful in the beginning as they made small talk with the manager, Owais. They mentioned that the manager had been a part of their business for the past nine years; in fact, ‘he was one of the first hires.’ When someone is a part of their life for the past nine years, you sure develop a certain understanding with them but the posture, the way the interaction happened, indicates that the manager and the owners are not that close. And even if they were, does that give anyone the right to attempt to humiliate the other person and that too publicly.

In the video, they asked the manager very innocently that in the past nine years have he formally studied English. Upon that, Owais replies that he, in fact, did take three courses to be able to communicate in the English language. According to that calculation, his studies have spanned over 1.5 years.

And that’s where they ask him a very derogatory question. They ask him to say something in English. Had they asked this from a child studying English, it would have been a cute interaction. But as we all understand, context matters, asking the manager such a question was outright awful.

It is sad that Cafe Soul or Cannoli did this, but it is refreshing to see how people all over the internet are standing up for the manager. It seems there is still hope for the masses.

Reducing the carbon footprint 

Just imagine, you sit 5 hours at Starbucks. The minimum number of cups of drinks you will order is 5. And with every cup, you refuse a straw. In a month, that would mean you would be saving 150 straws to be added to the garbage dump. Student Protest: Islamabad Police Come Down To Brutality

As educational institutes were about to open on 18th January, the student took on social media to protest against on-campus exams in Pakistan. Students are developing a chaotic atmosphere on social media by demanding online exams in return for online classes.

Online Exams Are A Go Or A No Go?

The educational institutes were closed Since the Covid-19 struck Pakistan, and all the educational institutes were holding online exams during the lockdown. In November 2020, some of the schools were partially opened, which two days a week and mainly focused on taking online classes and exams.

Now the situation is different because students were briefed by their institutes and by the Government that final exams will be taken online. However, the central Government has opened educational institutes from 18th January and proposing on-campus exams instead of online exams.

Student Protest

Currently, on the morning of 20th January, a Twitter trend #OnlineExamsOrWeProtest emerged, and an excessive amount of students shared their views by thrashing the Government proposal about taking exams on-campus.

Soon the students start getting the support of the Government officials, including the Minister of Education Shafqat Mehmood, Provincial Minister of Punjab for Primary & Secondary Healthcare and Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education, Yasmin Rashid, and students were happy about it.

There has been news that there have been some incidences of police brutality on the student protestors.

These Clothes Peg Earrings Cost Whopping USD 457 & It’s Insane

Fashion is subjective that I understand. But how subjective can it be if you start seeing what would have cost you PKR 15 in a Sunday bazaar priced at USD 457 in a Singaporean store called AMBUSH? So you can get a clothes peg packet that has more than ten pegs of 15 Pakistani rupees. Having witnessed my mommy bargain and get it for as low as PKR 10, I have stopped trusting shopping altogether. And then coming across a post like this is enough to give you further crisis.

So let’s backtrack a bit. There is a Singaporean pop art fashion label, AMBUSH. They recently released a line of earnings that have an uncanny resemblance to clothes pegs. And that is okay, considering when mommy would buy extra pegs, we would trying hooking it to our nose, lips, and then ears. So maybe, the fashion label was using that childhood memory thinking that it looked good. But here is the thing, what we enjoyed, and possibly bruised our ears with, cost way less than a dollar. And this allegedly new accessory costs USD 457. What’s even more bizarre is that one earring only costs 457 US dollars. If you want to make a pair of them, open up your trust funds, rich people.

Earrings or clothes pegs?

These earring lines have three colors. They are available in gold-tone, orange, and green. And you can buy it on the online platform, Fartech. In the description, you will find, “This green Nobo clip earring from AMBUSH features a spring-closed design, a peg shape, and an engraved logo.”

Furthermore, apparently, the green painted earring is the priciest at 760 Singaporean dollars. Gold-tone and orange are considerably lesser.

Did you know that the same brand has other weirdly overpriced products as well? One of them is cable ties. They are available in 5 colors, and the price range starts from 628 Singaporean dollars.

Anyway, these earrings were actually launched in 2019. But a Malaysian local sneaker business recently shared the earring detail, and it instantly went viral.

People were immediately trolling the product, though. They started reminiscing how this 457 USD product was used by mothers as punishment or that how the mothers would scold them for playing with important house stuff.

The company is a startup from the UK which describes the gadget as something that will track your mood and let your supervisor know. In retrospect, it would not be wrong to consider that of worn collectively; the gadget would also enable it for employers to evaluate and measure the workplace satisfaction of their employees as a whole, which would directly influence their productivity.

How Can The Device Measure Our Moods?

As per the description available on Moodbeams’ website, the wristband has several buttons that can be pressed on by the person wearing it and would let your boss know how you feel.

This would help the employer track how happy and unhappy their workers are and assist them in finding out how much they need to work on the working environment provided to the employees.

Why Would It Be Controversial?

The wristband is controversial because moods and innermost thoughts are intimate information about ourselves, and it crosses that boundary. Not everyone is comfortable with logging their moods and let everyone around them know how they are feeling and considering how the brand is positioning itself; as a tool that would let their employer know how the workers are feeling, many fear companies would make it a compulsory gadget rather than a voluntary move.

Last year, certain apps on the iPhone became controversial after it was revealed that they were allegedly leaking data of their users. This same concern could be the case for Moodbeam, too, considering there is very minimum information on how they would be able to log people’s moods in their cloud storage or whether that information would be shared with anyone or not.

How To Get An Omani Citizenship & Passport If You’re An Expat

Are you an Expat Pakistani in Oman? If yes, there is good news for you. The country has said that Omani citizenship is very much available for you. The Interior Ministry of Oman has released the notification for this order outlining the details.

So here’s how you can get Omani Citizenship

Expats residing in Oman can file the application to obtain citizenship in OMR 600. It comes to slightly above PKR 250,000. Moreover, if you are a spouse or have been a spouse of an Omani citizen, you can file it for OMR 300, which will be about PKR 125,000. The applicants will, however, need to prove that they live and work in Oman. And more importantly, they don’t have a case filed against them. And given the health issues in the world, they have to produce a medical certificate and highlight they don’t have a contagious disease.

Having applied for citizenship or after having attained it, if you want to give it up, it will cost OMR 200 (just above PKR 83,000).

Documents required

But as you must be aware, finances are not the only requirement to attain a citizen for another country. In fact, for Omani citizenship, there are 12 documents that they must produce.

  1. passport copy with a valid visa
  2. personal identification card (CNIC copy)
  3. valid residency card
  4. marriage certificate if he/she is married,
  5. Spouse’s passport and children’s passport.
  6. marriage certificate if married to an Omani (marriage of foreigner)
  7. certificate of good conduct from Oman
  8. certificate of good conduct from the origin country, in our case, Pakistan
  9. medical certificate
  10. income certificate
  11. Certificate from the Pakistani embassy showing the citizen is allowed to forfeit his original passport.
  12. Proof of intent to forfeit his current passport and a written declaration including the names of all underage children and their documents.

Long-term resident

Once you have attained citizenship, you have to go back within six months to the ministry to apply for a passport. The conditions do not end there, though. You have to remain a long term resident. The underage children will automatically get it.

Once you start the procedure, you have to sit for an Arabic language exam. You can reappear if you fail, but you do it after six months, and you have four chances.

When you are successful, in the first ten years, you cannot stay longer than six months outside Oman unless, of course, you have a permit.

You have to go to Oman Sultanate’s Ministry of Interior.

How to Block Stolen Phones in Pakistan

While IT Minister Anusha Rahman express the priority of her agenda, which is to make Pakistan a digitally advanced country, on the other hand, lots of efforts are being made to carry this vision out. As of now, the country is working on efforts to develop and deploy a system to block lost or stolen phones.

A similar attempt was made back in 2008-09, however, it was not successful. The reason was that at the time, IMEI numbers were required to block phones. However, this time around, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has suggested a new way for users to block their stolen phones in Pakistan.

A local company is already in works with PTA to find a solution for this problem.

How to Block Stolen Phones in Pakistan

Here’s how the new system for blocking lost/stolen phones will work:

  • PTA will maintain a list of allowed IMEIs (imported legally, PTA approved IMEIs, IMEIs paired with CNICs etc.) to be allowed to register with local networks.
  • All phone owners will be asked to register IMEI numbers with their SIM card (and ultimately a CNIC number, since SIMs are mapped with CNICs)
  • When a phone is stolen or lost, it will be put in blocked list
  • In case if IMEI is in blocked list or if IMEI isn’t matching the registered SIM card number, it won’t be allowed to connect with any network.

An official statement was also recorded for this software;

Once the software is ready, with the insertion of SIM card, the said mobile phone’s IMEI number will be registered. In case of theft or loss, when the subscriber will block the SIM, the mobile phone will also be blocked automatically.

 There is no word yet when the software will be released for the residents of Pakistan to use as of yet.

‘Dil Na Umeed Tou Nahi’ Is Already Winning Our Hearts

The media hype surrounding the launch of a new tv serial on TVOne titled ‘Dil Na Umeed Tou Nahin’ caught the attention of many publications and bloggers; from the teasers and early promos this drama looked like one covering several major social issues such as child marriage, prostitution the beggar mafia etc – topics not often approached on Pakistani cable TV, as boldly as in this drama.

Scripted by Amina Mufti and directed by Kashif Nisar with an ensemble cast including Yumna Zaidi, Nauman Ejaz, Omair Rana, Wahaj Ali, Yasra Rizvi, Adnan Shah Tipu and other big names is another point steering conversation and hype.

Keeping all of the above in mind, the excitement and build-up for episode 1 of Dil Na Umeed Tou Nahin was pretty high. So here is our review, without giving away too much: From the beginning of the first episode on TVONE,  the haunting OST and the unfolding scenes created a powerful impact.

This seems to be a story that has many layers and subtly exposes a dark side of society. There are multiple stories running simultaneously, Starting in the colourful world of Madam Shamim’s brothel where the heroine Sumbul (Yumna Zaidi) resides; Yumna Zaidi portrays an independent, strong prostitute with a mind of her own. The next scene shows a village track with a feisty little girl Allah Rakhi and her friend Jamshed who suffers daily beating by his teacher and his mother.

A 3rd track is that of young Nasim Zehra who wants to play cricket but is discouraged by her father who is brainwashed by his devious, lecherous friend Naeem. All three tracks seem to be interesting and intriguing, the connection between the stories is not yet revealed and it is to be seen if the stories will overlap in anyway; however, each track looks like it will carry a strong message about the downfalls of society. Yumna Zaidi and Omair Rana’s potential romance could be part of the plot, though Wahaj Ali who is suspected to be her love interest is still nowhere to be seen yet.

Powerful performances by the leading stars, so far- Yumna Zaidi, Omair Rana, Yasra Rizvi, Navid Shahzad, Sammiya Mumtaz and Adnan Shah Tipu in the first episode were riveting but special mention must be made of the child stars who really showed great talent. Aside from that a strong and impactful script, real heart-rending situations and expert direction in this episode are bound to make this a must-watch serial in the months to come.

The company is also expecting a 6.6% battery electric vehicle market. They intend to send 500,000 by the year 2026. This shows that KIA has a long term plan that could stretch as far as 2027. Seven years! That is one impressive plan.

All of these specifications and pointers guarantee the fact that KIA is a rising name. It is going up faster than any of the other ones in Pakistan, capturing hearts.
