Japanese researchers have developed computerised chopsticks that enhance salty tastes. The following can potentially help those who need to reduce sodium in their diets.

Electric chopsticks are a joint initiative by researchers from the Yoshinori Miyashita Laboratory of the Department of Advanced Media Science, Meiji University, and a Japanese food producer called Kirin (mostly known for its beer).

The chopsticks were created as part of an effort by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare to reduce the daily salt intake of the Japanese people. Which, on average, is actually considerably higher than the recommendations of the World Health Organization.

How Does It Work?

The chopsticks enhance tastes using electrical stimulation and a mini-computer worn on a wristband. The device uses a weak electrical current to transmit sodium ions from food. Through the chopsticks, to the mouth where they create a sense of saltiness, said Miyashita.

In a recent trial, the added electrical stimulation was found to increase the salty flavor of a given food by almost 1.5 times. When eating something made with a 30% reduction in salt, the difference in flavor would be imperceptible to the user. Anyone who’s ever licked the contacts on a 9-volt battery will agree that deliberately shocking the tongue seems like a bad idea. However, the level of electrical current used here is undetectable, and the idea has a lot of precedents.

The taste-enhancing chopsticks may have particular relevance in Japan, where the traditional diet favors salty tastes. The average Japanese adult consumes about 10 grams of salt per day.

Meanwhile, excess sodium intake is related to increased incidence of high blood pressure, strokes, and other ailments.

“To prevent these diseases, we need to reduce the amount of salt we take,” said Kirin researcher Ai Sato.

“If we try to avoid taking less salt in a conventional way, we would need to endure the pain of cutting our favorite food from our diet, or endure eating bland food.”

Changan Automobile showcases a new micro electric vehicle, the Changan Lumin, which features a new LOGO. Built on the Changan EPA0 platform, the new EV under Avatr will be Avatr Lumin Corn which is going to be a mini electric hatchback.

Lumin EV Variants

Ads reports released by the Chinese media, the company is launching the two variants of mini electric Avatr Lumin Corn. One is powered with a 35 kW LFP battery from CATL that generates 48 horsepower and has a range of up to 210 kilometres. Meanwhile, the other consists of a 30 kW LFP battery from Gotion Hightech that generates 41 horsepower and has a range of up to 150 kilometres. Both variants will have a top speed of 101 km/h.

An animation video is doing rounds by the Changan Lumin Corn on its official social media channels. The quirky details about the car’s exterior and interior are available in the video. There are two doors, four seats, circular LED lights, pop-out door handles, and engine push start.

An infotainment screen, an LCD metre, a climate control system, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and more deck the car’s interior.

Wuling Vs Lumin Corn

The opponent of this car is undoubtedly Wuling Hongguang MINIEV, as can be seen. Wuling Hongguang MINIEV ranked first in the new energy vehicle sales list in February 2022. According to relevant data, 26,116 units were sold.

Besides the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, Changan Lumin Corn will also compete with other Chinese electric hatchbacks, Chery QQ Ice Cream, Chery eQ1, and Baojun KiWi EV.

The New Initiatives

Meta has launched two new initiatives in Pakistan. These include the Online Safety Guide and StopNCII (Non-consensual intimate images). iPhone 14 May Be Missing Your Favorite Feature

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 14 base models won’t get a new chip upgrade according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Those buying an iPhone 14 Pro can look forward to a new A16 chip, however.

Recently, there have been reports that the Bionic A16 processor will likely use the 4nm manufacturing process. However, the company will only use the 3nm process for the A17 Bionic at the earliest.

Previously it was announced that the only two Pro models of iPhone 14 would upgrade to the A16 processor, while the 14 & 14 Max will remain the A15.

The two more affordable iPhone models retaining the same chip as the previous year could be a major new point of differentiation between the standard and “Pro” ‌iPhone‌ models. Going forward, it seems plausible that Apple could only offer a new chip with the “Pro” models before it subsequently trickles down to the two cheaper ‌iPhone‌ models the following year.

It was added that all four of the ‌iPhone 14‌ models are likely to come with 6GB of memory, with the standard ‌iPhone 14‌ models having LPDDR 4X memory and the ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ models having LPDDR 5 memory.

Periscope Multi-Zoom Lens

The previous rumors suggest the periscope multi-zoom lens in the iPhone 14. However, according to the latest reports, iPhone 14 phones will reportedly not come with a periscope zoom camera, which makes 100x zoom possible on phones like the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

Meanwhile, the primary camera on Apple’s Pro models will have a 48-megapixel sensor which is something to look forward to.

Latest reports have suggested that both the Pro editions of the iPhone 14 series will sport a triple rear camera unit, holding a 48MP wide, 12MP ultra-wide.

The iPhone 14 phones will continue to feature a dual-camera system on the back. The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will get three cameras, including the telephoto lens that should deliver zoom at least as good as the iPhone 13 Pro.

But the new iPhone 14 Pro won’t have a periscope camera that will take the iPhone’s optical zoom to the next level.

Now, with another potential Apple event approaching late 2021, should you buy a Mac computer? Or should you wait until the newer ones are released?

The company has not used intel-powered chips in their mac computers for quite a while now. Mid 2020 was the last time it was used. After that, Apple announced the famous ‘M1’ chip and it broke all expectations. Its capability and performance might stretch beyond anything we have seen or experienced. The CPU is quite powerful and even houses the properties of GPUs. So, are Mac computers worth an investment right now?

Now, an important decision rests on the shoulders of those wanting to buy a new computer. Since the release of the M1 chip, the Apple computer industry has really taken a boost. Its accelerated functions allow it to be quite the prize winner. People are often able to do grovelling tasks in lesser time due to what the M1 is capable of. However, despite what it can do, there are still some limitations. The RAM may not be enough for some particular applications people wish to engage the machine in.

The devices currently out there, carrying M1, are the Macbook Air, Macbook Pro, Mac Mini, etc. When it comes to the Macbook Air, it is quite capable as well. It was introduced in late 2020 and became quite phenomenal. For people looking to do everyday work alongside work-from-home applications, this is perfect. However, if you want to go higher with tasks, then the Macbook Pro might be the ideal choice. While it may cost more, it is also able to handle higher tasks.

Buying The Right One:

If your work is not as high-demanding as some video rendering applications, then you can definitely buy the Macbook Air. It is not only sleek in design but smooth in working too. However, for bigger work, you can always look towards the Macbook Pro. Additionally, if you want an M1 device but at a more affordable price, then the Mac Mini is for you. Its performance comes quite close to the Pro so you don’t have to worry about that.

However, if your work says you need bigger hardware, then we suggest that you wait a while. The M2 chip has been rumoured for a while too and maybe we get to see hints of that one. Who knows, Apple is progressing at a fast rate, we may see it soon!

This Cooking Oil Ad Is Being Criticized For Normalizing Body Shaming

Controversial advertising is a thing and has been a part of our industry for as long as we can remember. Despite trying to shatter the stigma and advocating for body positivity, brands have still a long way to go. In a recent instance, a renowned cooking oil brand launched its new ad, and they are taking body shaming to a whole new level.

The Cooking Oil Ad

The concept is based on a kid who loves himself some roadside snacks, and who doesn’t? The ad starts with a kid asking his mother for a plate of kachori. Portrayed as a foodie, he asks for a second, then a third plate. However, he immediately starts complaining about a stomachache.

The scene follows the dramatic entry of two inspectors who questions the quality of the cooking oil used by the vendor. Saying a few things about the quality of oil and how consumers should only consume food cooked in Meezan Oil, they blame consumers for not knowing what type of oil is used in roadside cafes.

However, what took the attention of social media was the closing comment which stated,

“Meezan main bana khana khilaen, is bachay ko burger se insan banaen.”

The spoken words aren’t only derogatory, but they also normalise body-shaming. In a society which is taking too long to un-learn such words, it doesn’t help anyone yet only adds to the problem. The brand should know better and get the scripts reviewed multiple times for any sensitive comments.

Likewise, the type of oil used is not relevant to the weight gain, and hence the link drawn and the choice of words could’ve been better for the said commercial.

Game shows in Pakistan have made quite a stir in the past few years. For as long as we can remember, Ramadan has been blessing us with various game shows aired on different channels. Thus giving the audience and public a chance to win some unique gift hampers which go as far as to even a car or a plot.

However, the question is, how credible are these shows, to begin with?

If the question were to be raised about the credibility of these shows, the opinions would somewhat be mixed, as seen by a recent discussion on a forum. People who were lucky to receive the gifts were all about positive comments. Meanwhile, those who failed to only mentioned how such shows are scripted. Seeing a range of views, one can only speak for themselves. However, the luck factor could also play a significant role. If you are lucky, you are bound to get something.
