“My Agenda is to Make the World Respect Pakistan “: A Rendezvous with Shaan Shahid on Arth

Arth, Shaan Shahid’s remake of the Bollywood classic comes to life on cinema screens across Pakistan on 21st December 2017. Charming us for 27 years on screen, Shaan is not afraid to speak his mind off-screen.

We all know his stance towards actors choosing to work in Bollywood, having declined roles from across the border a number of times.

Despite a worldwide release, India has refused to screen it. Given all this, the first question that comes to mind is what inspired him to remake Mahesh Bhatt’s 1982 classic thereby becoming the first Pakistani director to do so.

“I picked up an Indian film keeping in mind the collaboration between the two countries as far as trade is concerned. It was also to create a trust factor, showing them that we can do justice to their scripts by producing a quality film. I have transformed an art film into something more modern keeping in mind contemporary culture and fashion. “

So is it a fear of religious fanatics in India that currently prevents them from entertaining our actors in their films or in releasing them?

“ No, they just want to disrespect us. We have had extremist elements in our country, but they have never banned Indian films or actors. We see Indian actors selling biscuits etc in our commercials, but none of our actors appear as their brand ambassadors. I feel as a Pakistani this is wrong. We need to have equal footing as far as respect, work and money are concerned. “

“If I raise this question, I’m called a fundo and told that the world is a global village, but I think we should first earn respect and the money will follow. My agenda is to make the world respect Pakistan “

Shaan has always felt strongly about Pakistani actors working in India and he does not hold back on voicing his opinions:

Another topic the director/actor/scriptwriter feels very strongly about is the portrayal of women in film and television.

“ I’ve noticed in the past that there are many taboos in Pakistan where women are concerned. We come to the conclusion that if unfortunate circumstances fall upon a woman her life has ended. This really hurts me being raised by a single mother, being the father of 4 daughters and husband. It’s high time that we stop telling a woman to be dependent”

https://youtu.be/EzmrVSs4ftY

“Once a woman stops being dependent she sees the beauty, talent, and confidence inside her. “

This message comes through in one of the lead characters in the film.

He adds, “ Television has been currently showing weak women or those who are bad characters. Why is no one talking about it? A woman is not weak! A lot of dramas nowadays are not empowering women but tightening their chains “

“The other key factor that is an integral part of the film’s theme is how decisions determine destiny. “

https://youtu.be/pjlL80umLi8

Arth releases on the same day as Rangreza, however Shaan claims that he was not aware of this earlier. He does go on to add that there were 364 other days in the year that could have been opted for, giving each film breathing room.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYOlJL4xY7g&feature=youtu.be

The film has been shot in London and Lahore and has some great music. There are a total of 11 songs in the film with ‘ Murshed Ji “ sung by Rahat Fateh Ali and Bagga being his favorite.

https://youtu.be/rEnthi6NcYY

Once Arth is screened, we hope to see more of Shaan. He tells us about his upcoming film Zarrar, which he excitedly mentions, is “ a thriller showing our take on spy espionage – a Pakistani Bond!” He adds further that it would probably be one of the most expensive Pakistani films to be made to date with interesting locations including Turkey, the Pak – Afghan border, London, and Scotland. “

“It’s a character I’ve not played before, I’ve done a lot of action films, but not like this one! “

Malaysia Named Cheapest Country for Expatriates

A recent research conducted by the ECA International has named Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and George Town in Malaysia as the ‘world’s most affordable places’ for expatriates.

Malaysia has been a travel-friendly country for Pakistanis and tops the list of destinations visited by citizens. These three Malaysian cities, our own city of lights, Karachi, Yangon in Myanmar and Mongolia’s Ulaanbaatar were named the cheapest locations for expatriates.

Tokyo in Japan is still the most expensive location for expats in the Asia Pacific.

Johor Bahru, Malaysia one of the cheapest cities to live in the world for foreigners

ECA International’s Regional Director Lee Quane mentions,

“Asia is home to some of the world’s most expensive locations, as well as its cheapest. This level of variety is only matched in Africa, which is home to both the world’s most expensive location and its cheapest.”

Malaysia being named the cheapest country is great news for Pakistanis as relations between the two countries have been on the positive side on the tourism front. Recently, at the Pakistan Travel Mart at Karachi Expo Centre, amazing discounted packages targeting families were launched by Tourism Malaysia in conjunction with GR Travel. The special packages were announced by Datuk Sri, Mirza Mohammad Taiyab, Director General, Tourism Malaysia.

Murshed Ji Song of Arth-The Destination Creates an Uproar in India!

The promotions of Shaan Shahid ‘Arth-the Destination’ are in full swing! The film has created the right hype and hoopla, making sure it gives a tough time to its rival ‘Rangreza’, starring Urwa Hocanae, Gohar Rasheed, and Bilal Ashraf.

Just a few days before its release, the movie has dropped a song that has written an ultimate chart-buster all over it.

The unveiling of its latest musical number ‘Murshed Ji’ has captivated the lovers of Sufi music with its blend of soulful lyrics and and contemporary rock.

And of course, the credit goes to strong vocals of Sahir Ali Bagga and Rahat Fateh Ali’s baritone voice, not to forget the bona fide direction by Shaan Shahid. The trio combined together have taken the soundtrack to another level.

We are now compelled to say that Arth is already a super hit!

https://youtu.be/rEnthi6NcYY

Pakistanis are obviously loving it as the nation is brimming with music aficionados who are die-hard lovers of Sufi melodies.

But the tune has created a furor in India and even caught the eye of the veteran director, Mahesh Bhatt

Bhatt was all praises for RFAK, Sahir Ali Bagga and of course, Shaan!

Yeap, he was mind-blown!

SENSATIONAL! Rahat Bhai and Bagga come together and set the screen ablaze. Shaan staggers u with his animal vitality!

It is for sure that Shaan has done a lot of hard work for the remake of Mahesh Bhatt’s 1982 Arth and it is apparent from the promotions.

He instantly expressed his gratitude to Mahesh Bhatt!

Indian Twitterati too is adoring the rendition!

What do you think about the song?

Litecoin Beats Bitcoin in 2017: Here’s Why!

Cryptocurrencies have been quite a pleasant surprise for the people around the world. The sudden surge in the prices came as a shock to people. However, the most limelight was enjoyed by none other than the ‘Bitcoin’ out of all the cryptocurrencies.

As a market leader, Bitcoin enjoyed all the fame and overshadowed the other cryptocurrencies that too were growing at a fast pace.

A major example is a Litecoin. According to the market capitalization, Litecoin is the fourth largest digital currency growing at a rapid speed. The rise it has shown in the value chart was impressive because, for the first time ever, the cryptocurrency has crossed the $320 barrier the last Tuesday.

As per the stats, the increase in the value of Litecoin has surpassed 7291% as opposed to bitcoin’s, which is 1731% in 2017.

According to some investors, the rise in Bitcoin has reached its maximum potential and therefore are turning to investing in other growing cryptocurrencies including Litecoin. Investors also believe that Litecoin still has the potential for further growth.

What’s Litecoin?

The founder of Litecoin – Charlie Lee – is an MIT graduate and has also worked as an engineer at Google. Currently, he is undertaking an open-source software project under the X11 or MIT license.

The development and transfer of coins are based on an open source cryptographic protocol and does not involve any central authority. When compared to Bitcoin, Litecoin has a different technical mechanism.

Word of Caution

Despite the rise and fame, a number of Pakistani and foreign investors and analysts have set out the word of caution against investing into cryptocurrencies.

According to Thomas Carper, a US Senator said,

“Virtual currencies, perhaps most notably Bitcoin, have captured the imagination of some, struck fear among others, and confused the heck out of the rest of us.”

Google Launches Tool to Help iPhone Hackers

Google never fails to impress its audience! The popular search engine is back with another surprise. It released one of the most powerful new software that can help security researchers hack iOS 11.1.2.

This work is done by none other than one of the most famous names in the iOS bug bounty hunters – Ian Beer. He’s not only a well-known code hacker but also a member of Project Zero by Google. Their job description is to locate the bugs and exploits in various software in different companies to ensure a safer and smoother user experience.

The program was released this week on Monday. According to Beer, the program is theoretically suitable for all types of iOS devices, although it was only tested on iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, and iPod Touch 6G. He also believes that the code is quite easy to tweak for making it suitable for other devices as well.

This news came out huge for iOS security researchers and modders as this new code will make it easier than ever to jailbreak an iOS device to look for bugs. It’s a great contribution from Project Zero by Google as it is diligently working towards the goal of making all software for iOS safer and smoother to use.

Unfortunately, the exploits found by the researchers rarely get published and information about the tools used usually remains a secret. The main reason to keep it a veiled is because the procedure involves a huge sum of money, especially for significant brands like Apple.

Since Google is not operating to earn that amount, it does not need money to feature these publications. This allowed different software companies to use their input and make their own software safer to use.

The main aim is to look for all sorts of possible flaws within iOS without investing further time and research into creating new methods for jailbreaking it.
We can only hope that this revelation helps researchers in finding exploits so they can make Apple user interface even better.

Automobile and Oil Prices to Increase in Pakistan

Ever wondered what lies ahead for Pakistani auto enthusiasts as the rupee devalues against the dollar? A rapid rise of the Dollar in the beginning of the week that shot the US Dollar to Rs.110 created panic in the local market.

The rupee being devalued against the dollar would mean imports would become expensive. Some major imports include crude oil, auto parts, and automobiles.

As per a few analysts, the price of CBU’s (Completely Built Unit) vehicles and locally assembled passenger cars may be increased by car manufacturers by at least 8 to 10%.

Pakistan imports most of the auto parts used for the assembling of vehicles and if the dollar keeps on increasing, it could possibly result in a price hike of cars in the country.

There have been rumors that the car manufacturers have already planned to increase the price of cars in a few days and the revised costing will be issued soon.

Oil Prices May Increase After Hike in Car Rates

Analysts also believe that the price of oil will also increase. A recent hike in the price of Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene since the past month coupled with the rupee being devalued has expected the prices may go up by 7 to 10%.

Have anything to add to the story? Let us know in the comments below.

Pakistan to Become Home to the Biggest Screen in Asia

I went, I saw and I fell in love with the C Max theatre of Cinepax Cinema in Lahore’s Packages Mall.

The screen is undoubtedly the largest in the region (read Asia) and is even bigger than the iMax in the same city.

Watch the biggest films in the biggest cinema of Pakistan. Cinepax opening tomorrow at Packages mall, Lahore. See you…

Posted by Cinepax Cinemas on Thursday, December 14, 2017

What makes C Max a must watch place for cinegoers is the fact that it will be an out of the continent experience if not the world because there is simply no screen bigger than this!

Cinepax Cinemas was the second best thing to happen in Karachi after the arrival of Atrium Cinemas and before the advent of Nueplex Cinemas.

They are on the verge to become the first Cinema operators in the country to have 100 screens in the country when others don’t even have a dozen!

It was unfortunate that they lost 1 screen in Karachi (at Ayesha Manzil) but since good things come to those who wait … their wait seems to be over and out.

So what makes Cinepax Cinemas’ latest venture the best thing to happen this year?

Enjoy the CMAX experience, as Cinepax opens its door of the biggest cinema screen in Pakistan on 15th Dec. CMAX screen…

Posted by Cinepax Cinemas on Saturday, December 9, 2017

It is going to be the biggest Cinema in the country not just in terms of size but also in terms of halls. It will open with 3 useable halls at first but will eventually house as many as 10 screens which are more than the 9 in Emporium.

It is 80 feet wide and four stories tall, making it the biggest cinema in Pakistan.

Also, since Packages Mall is the latest ‘wow’ mall in the country, people will throng to watch films here and it is likely to give tough time to Nueplex, Centaurus and Atrium mall, the most profitable cinemas in the country.

There was a time when single screen cinemas ruled the cinema circuit but no it’s all about choices – these multiplexes give you many options to select films from and that seems to be the way forward.

The comfortable seats, the gigantic C Max screen, the huge snack counter and the impressive decor is what will make people fall in love with the Packages Mall Cinemas, just like this cinema lover from Karachi.

E-Passports Launched by Government For Easy and Secure travel

Now Pakistani can finally turn tech-savvy, ditching your old Passport for an e-Passport.

According to Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, the Interior Minister, the issuance of e-passport will commence from March 2018 by the immigration and passport office.

The announcement was made during the inaugural ceremony of e-passport at the Interior Ministry, Islamabad.

Further details about the innovative e-passport were revealed.

The service will be divided into two phases.

The first phase – which is to begin the next year in March – will start with government officials and staff of the embassies.

The service will be available to the general public starting from August 2018.

The e-passport is going to be the perfect example of modern tech.

It will also include an e-chip, which will contain all the information about the person it belongs to.

Another name for e-passport is the biometric passport. The chip within the e-passport will also carry the electronic image of the holder in addition to all the other important details.

Since all the information is carried in a digital format, same means will be utilized for using the e-passports for verifying the identity of the passport holder.

Your travel documents will never be this secure before. This new design is also fraudulent-free. The digital information ensures it is kept from being tampered or copied.

According to the facts revealed, there are several layers of security implemented in this new design to secure the information and prevent duplication by all means.

The overall step of innovating the passport is to help facilitate the public and avoid its misuse.

The planning for this innovation has been in the pipeline for quite some time. The project was initially approved by Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, former Interior Minister, last year.
People can ensure security against identity theft using this new passport.

In addition to providing security, the e-passport is also expected to make the immigration process more efficient.

As a nation, this is a great step that we should definitely appreciate as it helps the citizens of Pakistan to improve authorized travel and security without any hassle.

Fawad Khan Makes it to 50 Sexiest Asian Men List!

The Eastern Eye, a UK-based newspaper has finally released its list of sexiest Asian men of 2017.

Like every year, the publication rolls out its legendary ranking of the hottest male celebrities in the continent and as usual, our favorite Pakistani heartthrob has made it the roll.

Of course, it is our ultimate dreamboat, Fawad Khan.

Well, you can’t really resist this Greek God face, can you?

However, last year FK bagged the third spot in the rankings and this year, his position has now been dropped by three places. With the sixth spot in the list, he has been defeated by 4 Indian men and the Hollywood singer, Zayn Malik!

Well, at least he is the only Pakistani hero who made it to the top 6!

Fawad Khan has enchanted the opposite sex considerably, owing to his drool-worthy looks and awe-worthy acting skills!

The complete list has not yet been revealed. Last year, Ali Zafar, Atif Aslam, and Arshad Khan Chaiwala also made it to the rankings. So we are predicting that more of our Pakistani favorites will be mentioned in the Eastern Eye Sexiest Asian Men 2017.

Mahira Khan & Momina Make it to the Sexiest Asian Women List!

Amongst female superstars, our very own Mahira Khan has ranked 5th on the list alongside the A-list Bollywood actresses, Deepika, Priyanka and Alia Bhatt.

However, as per the latest report by Dawn, Aamir Bhai has landed himself in hot water as Islamabad High Court has barred him from making an appearance on T.V till further notice.

Aamir Liaquat Becomes President of a New Channel After Leaving BOL!

SO WHAT DID LIAQUAT DO THIS TIME?

Well, we are sure he did not see this one coming!

A petition was filed by citizen Muhammad Abbas to ban Liaquat from using any media be it television, print or social media

The petitioner accused:

“Liaquat used that show (Aalim Online) for a number of years to create a social and religious divide in the country”

The petitioner’s lawyer, Barrister Shoaib Razaq even made a more shocking allegation that:

“Amir Liaquat has no Islamic degree or certificate yet he calls himself ‘aalim’”

PEMRA’s name was also dragged in and was the media-watchdog was blamed for not taking measures against the scholar-turned-entertainer.

IHC judge Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, okay-ed the interim measure. He has now ordered the federal government, PEMRA, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Aamir Liaquat to file their responses.

See how social media is reacting to the news!

Let’s see what happens next!

India Copies Pakistan’s CSS Exams

there have been several incidents where Pakistani songs are copied by the Bollywood industry across the border. However, in a twist of events, it was reported by the Hindustan Times that a majority of questions in the competitive preliminary exams directed by the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) were copied from a Pakistani website.

Shockingly, the Questions were from Pakistan’s CSS Resource Website!

Upon further investigation, it was revealed that most of the questions were from the CSS Forum Website. The CSS website is a resource platform for candidates appearing for the civil services examinations in Pakistan.

Some questions were taken from 2008 Union Public Service Commission exams but the options given were not appropriate. Students complained that almost 90% of the questions were copied from the online forum.

Tapi Omo, an Indian candidate, mentioned to Hindustan Times,

“Some of the questions in general studies, sociology, and political science were in the context of a foreign country. We cross-checked and found they were straight out of the Pakistani resource site.”

A re-sit of the exam has been demanded by a member of the steering committee Nani Bath,

“As most of the question papers of the examination were photocopied and some were also tampered with, we cannot deny the possibility of a leak. Moreover, too much copy-pasting has been done while setting up the papers, which is illegal.”

It is shocking to see an official Indian Civil Services department taking examination material off our very own online forums. Well at least we’re sure our standards are such that countries chose to copy them!

6 Reasons NOT to Buy Bitcoin

Over the last couple of weeks, the word that’s been on the top of everyone’s mind is Bitcoin.

This is because the cryptocurrency is taking the world by storm. By being the first decentralized digital currency to exist, it has sparked the interests of people all over the world.

However, despite Bitcoin being hailed as one of the most profitable things to invest in, many don’t realize that all is not what it seems.

Not everyone is going to end up with the same benefits from using Bitcoins and not everyone using the cryptocurrency is going to become a multi-millionaire overnight.

Here are some of the reasons as to why you shouldn’t invest in Bitcoins.

1. Volatile in nature

By default, you need to be aware of the risks that come with investing in cryptocurrency. Given their nature, it is always safe to assume that they will always be volatile in nature.

This is because, given their virtual stance, there is no certain way of forecasting where the currency will go, or what needs to be analyzed to understand its trends.

Such volatility makes it almost impossible to forecast what is going to happen with the Bitcoin and hence if you do invest in it just keep in mind that you are going in blind.

2. Is this legal?

Quite probably one of the main issues that everyone should have with bitcoin is whether it is legal or not.

At this point in time it hasn’t been declared illegal as such, however, it also hasn’t been considered to be a recognized currency for many countries including Pakistan.

3. Can’t be classified as a commodity or a currency

By now, you need to be pretty aware of the other really big issue that comes with bitcoins. The main issue is that there is no way of classifying it as a commodity or a currency.

This once again stems from the fact that the currency has no physical form, unlike every other form of currency that has been used before.

You are never in real contact with your bitcoin and this makes it very hard to classify it in any form of classical currencies.

4. What regulation?

Bitcoin operates in the digital world. This means that there is no law or government or bank involved in the entire transaction.

Hence, it amplifies that if someone was to con you, or not deliver on their promise there would be no way to hold them accountable.

This just confirms the fact that there is no real method of regulating or keeping a check on things and you stand a very high probability of being ripped off.

5. This is where the weird stuff happens

Given its nature of not needing any legal or formal methods of tracking it down, bitcoin also helps you maintain anonymity when it comes to your transactions.

This has made it the ideal choice of currency to be used on the darknet to buy goods and services that are considered illegal in most parts of the world.

With this direction that bitcoin has taken many claims that it would be wrong to promote a currency that encourages such dealings.

6. If you don’t get it – get out

Many believe that cryptocurrency is nothing but a big bubble. This means it’s going to keep expanding till it eventually pops or blows up.

This means that in order for you maximize the profits (if any) that you could make you would need to really understand how the whole online currency world works.

However, if you aren’t well versed in this area, it is probably a better idea to steer clear in order to avoid any and all chances of losing all of your investment.
