Karachi Eat Festival 2018: The Highs & the Lows of the Event!

Yesterday was the third and the last day of one of the biggest food festivals of Pakistan, the Karachi Eat festival.

Karachi is the hub of food and the residents are aware of the innumerable amount of mouth-watering dishes this city has to offer. So, when the dates for the Karachi Eat are announced, people go all gaga about it and cancel all other plans, making sure they make it to the event.

The event turned out to be a success with thousand and thousands of people making it to the festival, not caring about the traffic, not caring about the queues, only hoping to have fun and eat loads and loads of food!

Bilawal Bhutto joins in karachi Eat … #Pppp #karachiEat2018 #2018 #Bhutto

A post shared by diamondwings (@diamondwings17) on

The yearly event took place at Benazir Bhutto Park this year and the ticket cost for an individual was Rs. 300, but its worth it when you have 125 stalls waiting to serve you food inside, cooked right in front of your eyes.

As soon as the event began, people started to pour in their reviews on social media regarding the festival which were good and bad both. We at Brandsynario, also went to the festival to check out if Karachi eat lived up to its hype or not, and we believe, it surely did but there were ways, it could’ve been made better.

So here’s the good and bad of this year’s Karachi Eat Festival.

The good:

  1. Variety of Food:

From No Lies Fries to Cafe Paraha, this festival had to offer all the varieties of food that one could ever imagine. From Firangi to desi, you were able to treat your taste buds with almost all the flavors you were craving for.

2. The larger than life Food Stalls

Along with the small stalls, there were others that were stealing the limelight with their grandness. The competitors, Shaan and National, definitely gave a tough competition to each other and it is difficult to decide which one was better than the other.

There was even a Biryani Vending Machine. Yes, you read it right!

To be honest, this was really cool!

3. The Celebrities

Everyone was there, obviously not at the same time but there was a very good chance for you to see one or more of your favorite celebs when you made it to the event. There was celebrities who were promoting their upcoming shows and films, while others were there to just enjoy the food and have a good time.

Here are some of the celebs spotted at the event.

That’s Ayesha Omar!

That’s the one and only Feroze Khan.

The team of Ghughi.

The team of Cake.

4. Trash Management

This is something which was commendable. It’s not easy when you have thousands of people entering a vicinity which is offering them a variety of food to eat. It could’ve gone wrong but the place was clean, there was no smell, and there was no trash to be seen anywhere. There were of plenty of trash cans available for you.

5. The entertainment

Apart from food, there was good music. In fact, there was Atif Aslam… do we need to say more?

There was also Fuzon!

#Fuzon performing live at #KhiEAT18 #TheBigEat #KarachiEat

A post shared by KarachiEat (@karachieat) on

There was Asim Azhar.

There were other singers and bands performing on the stage too, making sure the audience remained entertained!

The Bad

  1. The Never-Ending Queues

To enter the event, there was a queue which seemed like it would never end but it eventually did. Thank God. Some people actually waited for about an hour or so to enter the festival which is definitely a turn off.

2. One entrance

For an event as big as Karachi eat, there was only one entrance. The security might be the reason behind it but it could’ve been managed. Because there was one entrance, there was lots of chaos and waiting outside which bored people like hell.

3. Washrooms

The washrooms were in one corner of the festival which made it very difficult for the people. If the management had arranged more washrooms, it would’ve been easier.

4. The Traffic & Public Transport

Facebook: Karachi Eat

The traffic outside Benazir Bhutto Park was a major turn off. People had to wait for their cars for hours to reach the destination. Tariff based taxi services offered amazing deals for the event, but disappointed the commuters with their services yesterday.

5. No Volunteers

There were no volunteers inside to help you at the event. You were just on your own.

6. Maps

‪#karachieat2018 ‬

A post shared by ZenubBaburButt (@qarararasha) on

There were printed maps given to people on the entrance, but they were of no help. If huge maps were installed at some points, it would have made people’s trip to the festival more convenient.

7. The Jammers

People were unable to connect with their taxis and drivers because of the jammers. The networks were down, there as almost no connectivity. People also had troubling using their data to update their statuses from the event.

What Could’ve been better

  1. The location

Though Benazir Bhutto was bigger than Frere Hall, it is still too far away for someone who is coming from Gulshan or North. If there’s a place that is located in the middle of the city, it will be more convenient for people to make it to the event and the turn up might be even more.

2. The ambiance

The ambiance could’ve been made better. Apart from a few grand stalls, there was a lack of decor! To be honest, if you check out from a millennial’s point of view, there was no cool background to click a picture with, except for the “EAT. Eat. Eat” one at the entrance. The plethora of stalls was a big no. It felt like they have just adjusted all the stalls in an enclosed area.

Over all, the event was a success. The traffic, the crows, the peak-factors, at the end of the day, it was all worth it!

Oh, not to forget, there were also fireworks!

Pakistan Visa Policy May Change to Attract Tourists

Pakistan is home to the most beautiful scenic landscapes in the world. Unfortunately, due to security concerns, it has never been a popular destination for tourists across the world.

However, it looks like things are about to change on the tourism front for Pakistan as the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) has decided to review visa policies to attract more people from across the world to visit.

The PTDC has also reported that tourism in the country has tripled after 2013 due to the decrease in terrorist attacks in Pakistan.

The concerned departments have been asked to list down the new plans for changes to be made in the current visa policies in order to facilitate more tourists during 2018.

Managing Director of the PTDC Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor has mentioned,

“We will focus on overseas Pakistanis and foreign tourists during the year 2018.”

Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor also requested Civil Aviation Authority to provide a place for Tourism Information Desks at all the international airports in the country to make it easier for foreigners.

PTDC has also decided to appoint focal persons in major cities of Pakistan and other coordinators for tourism in foreign countries to work as a link between various tourism departments and tourists.

The increased activity on the tourism front is due to the recent report by a renown British travel company which has ranked Pakistan as the top adventure tourist destination in the world.

Pakistani Celebrities Share Their Stories About Surviving Sexual Abuse!

It takes tremendous courage for a victim to talk about sexual abuse.

Many feel embarrassed, judged and afraid to come forward and share their tales of torture. Some are even criticized and not taken seriously when they finally gather up the strength to do so.

With the barbaric rape and murder of the seven-year-old Zainab, a wave of outrage has erupted in the nation. Countrywide protests are demanding the criminal to be given the worst possible punishment.

Since then, much has happened in Pakistan’s entertainment fraternity

Various starlets are now coming forward with their accounts of sexual harassment, realizing that its crucial to share their struggling stories to help other individuals that are coping with the same trauma.

The first Pakistani celebrity to break the silence was the veteran T.V actress, Nadia Jamil.

She boldly narrated her painful story of being a victim of sexual abuse when she was just 4 years old!

However, she enunciated the importance of reaching out to sexual assault survivors whose stories remain unheard!

Following her example was the owner and C.E.O of Catwalk Productions, Frieha Altaf who also unfolded her soul-crushing torrent of harassment.

Famous designer, Maheen Khan too encouraged survivors to come up by revealing her own experience with sexual abuse

Various female luminaires couldn’t help lauding these icons for sharing their vulnerable accounts of harassment and assault.

Even male icons of the industry rose to show their support towards Frieha, Nadia, and Maheen!

It is important to understand that speaking out against sexual abuse is always scary.

It is indeed a proud moment that our gutsy Pakistani women are speaking up against sexual assault, stepping forward and sharing their own experience with it. With the power of social media, they are raising awareness to help eradicate the stigma, and give survivors a feeling that they too, can be heard!

ISPR Issues Public Warning Against Fake Calls!

The Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) has launched a public service message for the residents of Pakistan.

According to the notice, the people have been warned about fake calls from scammers claiming to be Pakistan Armed Forces officials.

They call individuals asking for personal information such as their CNIC numbers, addresses, and other personal bank details which are not to be disclosed.

These impersonators claim to be doing CENSUS verification and are using other pretexts as excuses.

It is highly urged for all citizens to be aware of this scam and not to fall for the trick. The Pakistan Army is not making any such calls. For those who have already received, or if you do, inform 1135 or 1125 about it and report them immediately.

Earlier, Chinese individuals with the help of some Pakistanis were caught trying to hack into bank accounts via ATMs.

The Chinese were caught on CCTV images replacing ATM parts with other parts which had scanners.

When an individual used the hacked ATM, their PIN and details were recorded by the scammers and their entire bank account was emptied, tracing back to cities in China. Now, the scammers have found another way around to trick innocent people into giving away their personal information.

How to Save Yourself from ATM Frauds!

Stay safe, stay alert!

PFA Bans 3 Popular Mineral Water Brands

The Punjab Food Authority has been known for taking strict actions against substandard quality foods, imperfect manufacturing, and unhygienic conditions.

The regulatory body has now banned bottled water from three companies that have failed to meet the quality standards required by the PFA. It comes as a shock as some renown drinking water brands are on the list too!

A survey was conducted in Lahore and collected samples from across the city which were then to Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research for testing. 14 Samples were collected in total.

3 Companies Banned by the Punjab Food Authority

  1. Aquafina
  2. Kinley
  3. Springley

Samples from the Water and Sanitation Agency have also been collected, it was also reported that various samples were taken from private and government hospitals too. The results have not been received as yet.

The 14 Companies Included in Testing Were:

  1. Aquafina
  2. Sufi
  3. Kinley
  4. Aqua Safe
  5. Blu Water
  6. Sparkle
  7. Kinz
  8. Naimat
  9. Bottle Water
  10. Pure Drinking Water
  11. Nestle Pure Life
  12. Murree Sparkletts
  13. Zam Zam
  14. Springley

The 14 ‘mineral water’ brands were tested and only 11 passed the of being ‘Plain or Safe Water’. However, none of these were passed as ‘Mineral Water’.

It has been reported that the three companies have been banned from producing and supplying water. As per the samples tested it was discovered that hazardous material including germs and chemicals were found in the water that is harmful to human health.

The companies have now been asked to have a product recall of their stock already present in the market.

It is sad to see big renown brands misleading the public by using the term ‘mineral water’ when their brand has only passed being ‘plain or safe water’. These water companies have now been asked by the PFA to make changes.

The Director General of the PFA has informed company representatives that they can appeal after which samples would be re-tested from both government and private labs. However, if the company were to fail the test again, their premises would be sealed and production would be halted.

#KarachiEat2018: 7 Stalls that Won the Festival!

Pakistanis are foodies by blood, for 5-years now, Karachi Eat Festival has remained successful for one simple reason, our love for food! This year to keep the excitement going, the organizers decided to step-out-of-the-box.

Last year, the ticket was priced at Rs. 250, this year the charges are Rs.300 with Rs. 100 redeemable, which means it got cheaper! Not to forget there will be over 120 stalls and a new venue, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Park.

Our passion for ‘tharkas’ and new innovations pulled us towards some really finger-licking good stalls this year!

Here are 7 stalls that truly won KEF’18!

1. Shan Foods (Stall No. B-3)

No matter how many fast food brands might catch your eyes, the love and desire for desi food in un-dying. Shan Food’s stall won our hearts with their desi winter menu! Last year, they worked their magic with the best Biryani in K-Town, this year it was their Paya and Nihari, and yes the delicious fried fish and keema that did it once again.

Dubai Tourism & Shah Rukh Khan Recreate the #BeMyGuest Magic

Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism) proudly revealed today the much-awaited #BeMyGuest campaign video, featuring Bollywood Baadshah Shah Rukh Khan.

While the first video, which took YouTube by storm last year, featured Shah Rukh Khan surprising residents and visitors around Dubai, this year Shah Rukh Khan explores what he considers to be his second home and takes viewers on a fascinating, multi-faceted journey through the city of endless possibilities.

Marking the first-ever collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and acclaimed Bollywood director Kabir Khan, the newly launched 2.0 #BeMyGuest portrays Shah Rukh Khan’s journey across a series of short films that see him taking visitors to Dubai through a multifaceted destination that holds global brand appeal in much the same way he does as an actor.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvUbjxEU57o

Shah Rukh Khan reaches out to his legions of fans across the globe, and introduces them to the lives of four different characters, and how he personalises each of their experiences of Dubai by injecting the warmth and spirit of the city that resonate with him, yet each customised to the needs of every visitor.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRB9qkiIgfg

The stories allow audiences to explore Dubai and its variety and diversity of stunning tourist offerings, with SRK in his signature style leading them to create new memories and rekindle old ones in the city.

The miniseries with a hero compilation has been shot across picturesque and iconic locations in the city, including Dubai’s incredible range of theme parks – specifically covering LEGOLAND® Dubai and Bollywood Parks™ Dubai; signature locations such as the Dubai Aquarium, Dubai Fountain and The Palace Downtown Dubai; and reveals secret treasures that showcase the stunning range of Dubai’s liberating land scapes, such as the mountainous Hatta region.

Shah Rukh Khan commented, “Last year I invited my fans around the world to “Be My Guest” while giving them a glimpse into my Dubai, as part of this exciting partnership with Dubai Tourism. This year, along with one of Bollywood’s most recognised directors, Kabir Khan, we’re taking that partnership further to exploring new places and attractions but with the signature essence of Dubai that truly makes it a place where every visitor can feel like they belong to even greater heights. I love this amazing city and I’m really looking forward to once again sharing my experiences with my fans.”

Conceptualised with the aim to strengthen the connection and cultural links between Dubai and the subcontinent, the video underlines the importance of the audiences from the subcontinent and the vast Diaspora as the top source markets for inbound and repeat visitation to the emirate. Dubai hopes to use this campaign to further drive first-time visits from the market bases, as well as increase the propensity of those that have visited to come more often by showcasing an ever evolving tourism proposition.

Issam Kazim, CEO, Dubai’s Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DCTCM), says, “We are delighted to partner with Mr. Shah Rukh Khan once again for the new edition of this very special project, #BeMyGuest. There is no one quite like him – with his charisma, global appeal, and most importantly because he truly considers Dubai to be his second home and shares so many similarities with what Dubai stands for. Our video last year that saw Shah Rukh surprise and delight people in Dubai, garnered great response from across the world, but that was only the beginning of our journey.”

He continued: “This time around, we continue to celebrate this strong bond by capturing Shah Rukh Khan directly exploring the city and what it has to offer to audiences across different age groups and demographics. We are also very pleased to work with Mr. Kabir Khan for the first time, as he has brought to life Dubai’s extensive tourism proposition, while weaving in Shah Rukh’s unique relationship with the city. We look forward to sharing this series with our global audiences and the international dispora as well as the wider global fanbase of Shah Rukh Khan.”

Talking about this collaboration, director Kabir Khan added, “It’s been an absolute dream come true to work on this campaign with such power house names. I have always aspired to work with Shah Rukh, the charisma he brings to every shot is admirable, while Dubai has been one of my favourite cities to visit. In these films, we’ve done our best to capture the essence of Dubai, from its stunning locations to its welcoming hospitality. After working so closely with both Dubai Tourism and Shah Rukh Khan, I can confidently call Dubai my home and cannot wait to be back.”

To celebrate #BeMyGuest collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan, flydubai has a special offer for flights to Dubai.

We saw how the promo portrays everyday issues middle-class families face such as sudden power outages or water supply getting cut off at the wrong time!

The webisode sheds light on how the mindset of the youth is influenced by materialistic wants and wishes. The millennials are always trying to fit in so that they can also blend with the higher class.

For those who have missed the teaser, you can watch it here!

Moving to the pilot episode, a heated debate is in the air in the Mujahid house where the children are forcing their ‘ammi jaan’ to get rid of an outdated wall painting and console. Apparently, it did not go with the American styled furniture.

While the melodrama continued and the mother gives a lecture on how kids these days do not appreciate antique items, a girl comes knocking at the door!

She introduces herself as Hira, the neighbor and starts communicating in fluent English! Of course, the kids were all inspired by their ‘angrezi parosoi’ while the mother seemed pretty miffed by her presence.

The twist comes when Hira could not help praising the console and the artsy painting! Eventually, the entire clan agreed that both the items can stay.

The hilarious punch lines and witty performances in the first webisode have us totally hooked! So much so, we can’t wait to find out what goes down in episode #2 which will roll out on 13th January.

We bet Mrs. Mujahid is surely going to enjoy having Hira’s company and not to forget a new maid in the house!

This is probably going to be an encounter the maid is never going to forget, considering that she is a modern-day, cool maid who probably loves to binge watch on Netflix and is a know-it-all when it comes to brands!

We are yet to see how the family copes up with settling in a new community and surrounding itself with new people, with amma being a protagonist!

Will Mrs. Mujahid be able to negotiate on her terms with Hira’s maid? what is expected in the upcoming webisode!

Suzuki Pakistan Dominates Automotive Sales in 2017!

Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) has released a report on figures of sales conducted throughout 2017.

Unfortunately for other manufacturers, their performance was not so impressive!

According to the report, these are the following figures;

  • Pak Suzuki, in the 1300cc category, sold 381 Suzuki Swift hatchbacks in December 2017; in the previous month, the company sold 342 units of the Swift
  • Honda Pakistan sold 2,464 units (Civic and City) and only 3,208 vehicles in November were sold
  • Indus Motors (Toyota) 3,807 units in December and 4,537 in November (19% dip in sales)

Apart from Suzuki, no other manufacturer had seen an increase in their sales. This is an alarming situation as the increase in the value of the cars have caused a backlash for the manufacturers already.

She has often been in the spotlight for her spectacular performances in movies, photo shoots or commercials, however, this time around it is her adorable son Azlan who’s taken social media by storm. A surprising tweet from Mahira Khan’s account yesterday left people in awe of the clever child.

Azlan’s interest in Beauty and the Beast and its actress, Emma Watson is quite commendable. He seems to have found a few mistakes in the movie and would like Emma to know about it.

Here’s what Azlan had to say to the Hollywood superstar,

A hilarious response was tweeted by one of Mahira’s fans:

However, Khan deleted the tweet from Azlan and later had an explanation for all who wondered why the Tweet had disappeared.

“He is borderline obsessed with her! But he’s also found ten continuity jumps in Beauty and the Beast. I mean…”

For those who did manage to catch the tweet before it was deleted, the majority believed Azlan should be introduced to the Harry Potter series which starred the beautiful Beauty he’s borderline obsessed with!

We would definitely want to see the mistakes the mini Khan points out after watching the Harry Potter films.

The star kid wowed us with her ethereal voice, being a splitting image of her dear daddy in both talent and humble conduct.

Pakistan’s musical aficionado could not help lauding the songstress with her strong Coke Studio Debut!

Apparently, the multi-talented artist is a big fan of the Bollywood biggie, Hrithik Roshan.

#SaveBatool: Social Media Unites to Save 6 Year Old Rape Victim!

When APS had happened, the entire country had mourned be it man, woman, or children, and even today the nation is hurting from the incident leaving behind a scar, which will not even heal with time.

Similarly, another incident left a deep wound of our hearts and souls, the passing away of 7-yr old Zainab, who was mercilessly raped and murdered, left to rot in a waste dump in Kasur.

However, many were unaware that even before Zainab lost her like in the Kasur incident which has shaken the world, there were several other children before her, one of them is Kainaat Batool.

Kainaat’s story is also devastating, it will make you want to rip out your heart because let’s face it, humanity has died from within us and we are nothing but soul-less bodies feeding on the innocent. Out of the 12 children who were recovered, she was the only one to survive.

“It has to be the same man. It has to be the same person who did this to Kainaat,” -kAINAAT’S fATHER

The 6-year old girl left her home on the evening of 11th November to buy yogurt from a nearby shop and failed to make it back home. Devastated by her absence, her father gathered their friends and family to send out a search-party. After missing for 24-hours, the family received a call which toppled their world upside forever.

Kainaat was found in a heap of trash in a critical condition. The little girl was brutally raped and was left there thinking that she was dead, however, every second, that poor girl was suffering from pain which we can not even think about.

“The day we found her, we rushed her to Lahore’s Children Hospital, She stayed there till Jan 2, after which the doctors said it was best to take her home. But we knew she was not yet okay.”- Kainaat’s Father

The six-year-old is in Kasur’s DHQ Hospital for the past ten days. “The doctors say they found torture marks on her body,” he added.

“I am making do financially with some friends’ help. I would not be able to afford hospital expenses otherwise.” said her father. He is a labor worker who earns on a daily basis, however, since his daughter has been admitted, he has not earned a single penny as he stays by her side.

It has been 2 months since the innocence of the child was taken away, the trauma was too much for her to endure, so much that the child has not spoken a single word since and cannot properly move all parts of her body. Not only has Kainaat been physically and emotionally scarred, the mental trauma the child has endured is too much for someone of that age to survive.

After Kainaat’s story surfaced, celebrities who help spread the campaign #JusticeForZainab are now standing hand-in-hand for this angel by taking it to social media asking for everyone to help her and her parents by providing aid.

Even after the passing of Zainab, 3 more bodies of children were discovered. Parents in Kasur, in Punjab, and in Pakistan and sick and tired of having their children sacrificed, it’s about time we hang the culprits and instead of saying we are seeking justice, we want to say, justice has been served!

Let’s help our little angel!

#JusticeForEveryChild: Another Minor Becomes Victim of Rape & Murder in Punjab!

Be careful while buying fairness creams!

Although most people don’t realize it, their favorite skin care products may be filled with harmful ingredients, toxins, and chemicals.

Fact is, the majority of store-bought, commercially produced beauty products come packed with artificial colors, fragrances, preservatives and stabilizers that can easily be absorbed through the skin’s pores, potentially causing a range of negative long-term health effects.

We all love a healthy and glowing skin. We are always out to get it by home remedies or fairness creams.

So those who are really wanting to make their skin glowing should not lose hope but should also not rush into buying dozens of harmful fairness creams that are available in the market promising a whiter skin in no time.

It is necessary to consult your dermatologist first and research on fairness/beauty creams that are safe for the human skin.

There are plenty of fairness creams available on the market: most are bad, a few are decent and then there are clinically tested and approved fairness creams such as Stillman’s Bleach Cream and Freckle Cream, which are tested by international, and local authorities and has proved to be safe for human use.

When you pick a fairness cream, always check the following:

1. Does the fairness cream packaging support a security seal to ensure you’re not buying a counterfeit product?
2. Is the fairness cream advertised to be safe to use? This will guarantee mercury-free product.
3. Does the fairness cream claim instant results? Any instant results cream will leave a long-lasting adverse effect on the skin.
4. Is the fairness cream clinically tested?
5. How long has the fairness cream been on the market?

The above points are significant in determining whether a fairness cream is up to the quality standards and will not leave any negative impact on the skin.

Stillman’s Bleach Cream and Freckle Cream are 100+ years old hero product of the Stillman’s brand and were first launched in Pakistan in the 1950s.

The creams remove freckles and spots, giving users a visibly clearer skin. It minimizes the presence of fine lines and wrinkles, which prevents aging, maintains elasticity of the skin, retains moisture and helps in skin lightening.

Other products/brands promise to be effective but are not safe to use for the human skin due to the use of mercury in their product. Thus, causing bad and irreparable damage to the skin.
