Government Increases Price of Petroleum Products by PKR 6!

It looks like 2018 has not been lucky at all for automotive fanatics! The year started with an increase in the petrol prices, followed by an increase in the price of imported auto parts which eventually made assembled cars more expensive.

It doesn’t stop there, the government has once again increased the price of petroleum products effective from today (February 1st) onwards.

The following are the revised prices for the products:

  • Price of petrol increases by Rs 2.98 per liter, now at Rs 84.91 per liter
  • Price of diesel has been increased by Rs 5.92, new price PKR 95.83
  • Price of Light Diesel Oil has also gone up by Rs. 5.93/L, new price PKR 64.30
  • Price of Kerosene has increased by Rs. 5.94/litre, now priced at Rs70.26 per liter

The prices have now reached an all-time high in the last 5 years.

“We will not stand for the economic murder of the country,” Bilawal Bhutto

He added, the economic attack by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz will be combated.

This is now the second time in the year when the price has shot up on these products by the government. It has caused a situation of stress for consumers as the common man is finding it harder and harder to deal with the price increases on a daily basis.

Nurpur Clears the Air on Milk Ban by Supreme Court!

Supreme Court of Pakistan has recently passed an order against Nurpur UHT Milk.

We would like to use this space to clear the air and lay down some facts.

We acquire our milk from farmers who are trained in production and handling of hygienic milk. The utensils for milking and transportation are sterilised. Our milk collection agents perform 23 tests on each batch of milk before collection.

Medically screened personnel then handle the transportation of milk in insulated SS tankers at 4°C. Throughout this process, quality checks are made which are compliant with both international and national (federal and provincial) standards.

For 2018, the Q5 gets not only a new suit of clothes but its first full reworking in the model’s nine-year history.

Rizwan Hussain Becomes First Athlete to Represent Pakistan at Ultraman Australia

With sports being a part of our DNA, we Pakistanis love to see our men and women in action!

While we have many athletes who have made us proud in many ways, another name on the list is Rizwan Hussain!

Hussain is the first Pakistani to represent the nation at the event. He has participated in Ironman South Africa in April 2017 and in Ironman Switzerland, he was also a part of Ironman Carinas in 2016.

Rizwan is a part of Ultraman Australia in the memory of his son with massive support from his beloved wife and daughter.

UM Australia, a three-day, 515 km annual endurance race held on the biggest island of them all – Australia.

UM Australia starts and finishes at iconic Noosa Heads beach, in front of the Noosa Heads Surf Lifesaving Club, Sunshine Coast, Queensland.  Noosa Heads has been named as one of Australia’s top ten beaches.

UM Australia is divided into four stages over three days, and each day has a 12-hour cut-off.  Your training will take you places you’ve never been.  The three-day event – the distances – will test your physical and mental endurance.  And afterward, you will join the UM Australia family, a family like no other.

Earthquake Jolts Various Cities of Pakistan!

Earthquake tremors have been felt all across Pakistan. According to the initial reports, the jolts were felt in Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, and also in Quetta. Tremors were also felt in Bajaur Agency and Khyber Agency.

Pakistan Meteorological Department’s report has shared that the epicenter of the quake was the Hindu Kush region, which experienced a 6.1 on the radar, while Pakistan experienced a 4.9 quake.

Many buildings in Quetta have cracks in the foundation because of the jolts. Reportedly, a wall also fell down due to the impact, which resulted in the death of a girl, while two individuals got injured.

In Balochistan, many children have been injured in Nok Kundi as their schools also braced a powerful impact from the earthquake. Another 2 school-going children have been reported hurt in Landi Arbab and panic erupted in a girls school situated in Peshawar!

Because of the intensity and considering the number of hurt civilians, an emergency has been declared in Civil Hospital. Parliament sessions in Islamabad have been postponed due to the tremors. The Supreme Court has also halted its hearing.

The tremors were also felt in Afganistan and India.

Sindh Government Orders Clifton’s ‘Street School’ to Shut Down!

Education is a powerful tool, it is used to differentiate the literate and the illiterate, however, in Pakistan, seems like education is only for the elite and not for the poor.

Popularly known as ‘The Street School’ or ‘Footpath School’, in Clifton under the Bahria Icon Tower flyover near the Abdullah Shah Ghazi shrine, is an open-air school for the children who used to beg, or belong to very poor families. Well, at least it used to be.

The Sindh government had issued a notice to the Ocean Welfare Organisation’s project and is only giving 3-days to evacuate the site.

“If the Sindh government can’t educate the children begging at traffic signals in Karachi, they shouldn’t shut down street schools,” Syeda Anfas Ali Shah Zaidi 

OWO also operates 3 small-scale street schools in Badar commercial. Anfas, who is also a Pond’s Miracle Woman, started the school after the 2014 Army Public School massacre, she added, “I wanted to find a way to spread knowledge, so I started my mission with educating children on the streets in Karachi.”

The project started off with 7 schools throughout Karachi, however, due to lack of funds, some of them had to close down. The children who attend the school not only get free education, but are also fed a day-time meal, and are taken on small field trips for their personal growth. These children are also taught vocational skills like sewing and personal grooming.

According to the official notice, the Sindh government has decided to shift these footpath schools to buildings in nearby localities. When Anfas and other OWO office-bearers visited SEF Managing Director Naheed Shah Durrani’s office, they were told to shut down the Footpath School.

“If we don’t comply with the government’s orders, we shall be forced to clear the footpath. Naheed disgraced us in her office and reiterated her threats over the phone until late in the night.”

“I’m not collecting donations from any government body or foreign country. I know that the Sindh government has allocated funds for footpath schools, but Naheed wants to set up her own school on our footpath for pocketing the funds.”

Anfas expressed how the popularity of the Street School has been the reason why it is often showcased in the media and has left the other ‘elite’ and ‘reputable’ schools in trouble.

However, Naheed has denied the allegations Anfas had stated. On the other hand, SEF Deputy Director Nisar Ahmed said the School Education Department had offered to provide a building with the needed requirements to accommodate students of the footpath school.

“A formal education platform will be provided to them to secure their future and to avoid any incidents on roads. The SEF intends to provide a more appropriate mechanism for rehabilitating students coming from special circumstances,” he said.

Its been a while that Pakistan has received a reason to celebrate, the coming month of February is finally bringing good news for all Pakistanis!

The Ministry of Interior has announced a public holiday for the 5th of February 2018 in order to observe ‘Kashmir Solidarity Day’. All institutions and offices will remain closed to signify political and moral support to the Kashmiris in their undeterred struggles and self-determination. The notice was sent and signed by Abdul Salam Khetran, Section Officer (Public).

This time around Pakistanis will be able to celebrate a long weekend with their loved ones as the 5th of February falls on Monday giving everyone 3 days of relaxation!

Sindh Government Makes Drug Testing Compulsory for Students

Chief Minister, Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah has issued directives and declared drug testing in all public and private institutions across the province.

The decision was taken at a meeting held to examine the increasing issue of drug abuse in schools, colleges, and universities in Sindh. Shah has ordered the concerned authorities to draft a law that would make it compulsory for all enrolled students of the secondary and high school and university to undergo a drug test.

Due to an alarming number of cases of drug abuse in various leading universities of the country the Minister believes the drug test is a must.

Syed Murad Ali Shah mentioned,

“I am quite worried to protect our children from all social evils, and it becomes our collective responsibility to protect our children from the growing menace of drugs.”

The Chief Minister believes parents would cooperate and support him for the decision taken. He further added,

“It would be mandatory for every student to qualify the test”

The meeting was attended by the provincial ministers and secretaries for education and health, home ministries and many others.

A list of students is being processed by the Education Secretary that will further be shared with the health department. The drug testing will commence after the list is completed.

The Chief Minister is going to release the necessary funds needed for the drug testing when the amount is required.

Facebook Will Promote Local News After Its Latest Update!

Co-Founder and Cheif Executive of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, took it to social media on Monday to share the new feature of the social media platform’s upcoming update.

“Starting today, we’re going to show more stories from news sources in your local town or city. If you follow a local publisher or if someone shares a local story, it may show up higher in News Feed.” Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post.

The new update will first roll-out in the United States, followed by other countries throughout the year. The company has been recently dedicating a lot of time in changing their algorithms and strategies to tackle ‘fake news’ culture which has taken over the platform.

One of the biggest issues the platform has had to face was criticism about its algorithms, that may have prioritized misleading news and misinformation in people’s feeds. This means possibly influencing the 2016 American presidential election as well as political discourse in other countries.

After a hiatus of 152 years, the universe is going to witness a rare and a glorious rise of ‘Super Blue Blood Moon’. 

What does a Super Blue Blood Moon Mean?

Coincidently, for the first time in history, Pakistanis will be able to see a supermoon, a blue moon, and a lunar eclipse or “blood moon’.

As eerie as it may sound, there won’t be any blood and it won’t be blue.

A blue moon is a term for the second full moon in a single calendar month. The supermoon will coincide with a total lunar eclipse, making the supermoon take on a red glow and it will transform into a blood moon.

It will be visible in large parts of US, northeastern Europe, Russia, Asia, the Indian Ocean, the Pacific, and Australia.

 

In Pakistan, It will be visible at moonrise time.

Looks like Pak Suzuki also has a new trick to boost the number of units being sold in Pakistan!

To give a neck-to-neck competition to its rivals like Toyota and Honda, Suzuki has decided to go with new colors as the tactic to use.

While the brand has made other efforts, like launching new bikes and automobiles in their lineup, the company looks like it might be introducing 2 new colors, a shade of green for its carrier, and blue for its car.

Accordingly, the new shade of green will be available for Suzuki Ravi and Suzuki Bolan only. However, it is unsure if the color is also for some particular scheme or client, or a new introduction for their future vehicles.

Cryptocurrency Hacker Breaking into Your PC Through YouTube!

Hackers are everywhere and every day they try to break into someone’s email, their bank accounts, websites, and now, cryptocurrency hackers are trying to break into your PC!

As you know by now, if you own a Bitcoin, or a couple of it, you are a potential millionaire, even if you own another cryptocurrency you might just be on your way to becoming a millionaire very soon.

However, since cryptocurrencies have now come out of their shells and shown people how much they are worth, there are hackers who are trying their best to hack into a user’s PC and steal their currency!

Recently, malicious YouTube ads have been reported which are digging for the bitcoin data in the user’s accounts without any notification to the site or the user himself.

A blog post from Trend Micro, an international cyber security company, confirmed the sharp uptick in Coinhive use earlier in the week, pinning it to a “malvertising campaign” that subverted a Google ad service used on YouTube.

“Attackers abused Google’s DoubleClick, which develops and provides Internet ad serving services, for traffic distribution,” the post notes. Trend Micro’s data pointed to Japan, France, Taiwan, Italy, and Spain as the countries affected by the campaign.

Well, although this malware attack and scam has been identified, users who own a cryptocurrency, even if it does not worth much now, it is your money which has been invested and is your property which belongs to you and not just a random person.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat is as true to history as Titanic is – meaning that whatever is shown on the screen may not have happened in real life.

While Titanic had an excellent soundtrack, background score and a cast that portrayed the people of the era, Padmaavat just satisfied the ego of director Sanjay Leela Bhansali who was assaulted by Hindu extremists during the shoot.

He was threatened by Hindu extremists during the promotions and whose film only got released after the Supreme Court stepped in, standing tall against the Hindu extremists.

It was very ‘shocking’ to know that the villain in the film is a Muslim and the Hindu extremists were angry on something that might even not have happened in history.

What else does the film tells us, read on:

Muslims of the 13th century were less human, more beast!

In the 13th Century, Muslims ruled half of the world and impressed the locals with their customs, their mannerisms and their dedication to their religion.

My #Padmaavat review is finally up ! Link in bio. Ranveer once again proved why he is the best. This movie was amazing. I am gonna say that Ranveer as Khilji was the strongest part of the film, couldn’t take my eyes off him. Mix of fear, rage, discomfort,laughter every time he came on screen. By the end of the film I almost wanted him to see Rani Padmavati. I feel like some parts were almost comical which made it hard to 100% completely hate the character. Most enjoyable scenes for me were definitely his Afghan dancing, and the mix of Farsi in the film. Ending was incredible, Deepika did absolutely amazing in her scenes. Her eyes tell a 1000 stories. Shahid completely fit his role, stayed calm and composed throughout and did a great job overall. Even the supporting characters and extras were perfect. What more can you want from a #SanjayLeelaBhansali film ? MUST WATCH.

Ratan Singh is portrayed as a proud Rajput who loves his wife, loves his kingdom and cares about anything that is there to be cared for.

Yet he was stupid enough to a) enter the tent of his enemy alone, b) escape from his enemy’s castle only when his wife led the rebellion and c) agree to a duel against a maniac who used cheap tactics to win.

We all know that women in 13th century India were treated badly yet this film tells us that Rajput men listened to their wives, didn’t let them be seen by their enemies and gave them the right to Johar which was like surrendering before the battle.

In addition, the head Rajput wife (or the second one, since there was the first wife too) decided to commit Sati along with many others prompting discussion about the promotion of an act that is condemned all over the world.

Eunuchs from Africa were white with funny accent

Actor Jim Sarbh was not a misfit for the role of Malik Ghafoor but so was the whole character – African slaves in the 13th century were usually anything but white but here we had a Eunuch from Africa who was whiter than the leading lady.

His funny accent made him a distraction as well since the film’s tempo was broken when he sang (yes, he did), he delivered a dialogue or he tried to act smart. Another actor could have done justice to the role because it looks as if African Eunuchs in that era were ‘fair-ly’ simple.

It’s better to kill a servant than terminate him

When Ratan Singh decides to send his guru (Aayam Mehta) to the gallows, his Rani advised him to spare his life and send him away from the area. His crime was being a Peeping Tom especially when the Raja and Rani were having a good time.

However, that wasn’t the bigger crime here because Padmavati’s decision to spare the Guru’s life brought them more trouble. He joined hands with Alauddin Khilji, told him stories about the beauty of Padmavati and advised him to attack the castle and capture the most beautiful woman in the world.

The holder of everything nayab listened to the advice but before he could even eye his crush, all the women of Rajput clan committed Sati, collectively. Too bad!

PFA Has a Shocking Revelation About Roadside Golgappa!

The crunchy ball with spicy mashed potatoes+ tangy tamarind water= UTTER  BLISS!

The street snack is loved by people of all ages and all walks of life. You will even see people in business suits, walk out of their luxurious cars and join the queue to feast on the culinary delight.

No matter how unhygienic they appear to be, one can never say no to a plate of mouth-watering gol gappas!

And you can just get drunk on that flavorsome, zesty, ‘khatta pani’!

However, Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has rolled out a notice that will now make you think twice before eating this delicacy.

According to PFA:

the street vendors PUT tartaric acid in the IMLEE water to make it SPICier

For those who are unaware, Tartaric acid causes multiple stomach-related diseases, including Ulcer. It can also cause paralysis, even death when ingested in large quantities. High levels of tartaric acid in the body have been linked to autism and fibromyalgia.

The authority has advised people to avoid eating items like gol gappy, dahi ballay and even papri chaat.

PFA has also warned all street vendors who use tartaric acid in imlee water to quit the hazardous practice. Strict action will be taken against sellers who will be discovered violating PFA’s orders

PFA Bans Sales & Production of Betel Nuts!

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has imposed a ban on the production and selling of betel nuts (supari/chaliyan) in Punjab.

The authority has given 90-days ultimatum to all the concerned places. This decision came after a meeting was held in regards to the distribution and consumption of the product.

Supreme Court Lifts Ban on Sale of 3 Mineral Water Brands

PFA Director-General Noor-ul-Amin Mengal chaired the meeting at the headquarters. Mengal added that the aim of this ban is to protect the consumers from its harmful side-effects.

“A large number of people, especially youngsters, are suffering from submucous fibrosis (SMF) and the patient cannot open their mouth completely and ultimately they suffer a loss of jaw movement. Strict action as per the relevant provisions of the PFA Act 2011 shall be initiated against them after April 30,” he warned.

He added that the use and profession of betel nuts are strictly prohibited in many countries like UAE, India, and others. He also deemed it as a punishable offense to consume and chew on betel nut in public areas.

“The World Health Organization has already classified betel nut as a carcinogen which is a substance capable of causing cancer in living tissue,” he added.
