There is something extremely comfortable about devouring a plate of delicious Gol Gappy!

The street snack is loved by people of all ages and all walks of life. You will even see people in business suits, walk out of their luxurious cars and join the queue to feast on the culinary delight.

No matter how unhygienic they appear to be, one can never say no to a plate of mouth-watering gol gappas!

And you can just get drunk on that flavorsome, zesty, ‘khatta pani’!

However, Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has rolled out a notice that will now make you think twice before eating this delicacy.

According to PFA:

the street vendors PUT tartaric acid in the IMLEE water to make it SPICier

For those who are unaware, Tartaric acid causes multiple stomach-related diseases, including Ulcer. It can also cause paralysis, even death when ingested in large quantities. High levels of tartaric acid in the body have been linked to autism and fibromyalgia.

The authority has advised people to avoid eating items like gol gappy, dahi ballay and even papri chaat.

PFA has also warned all street vendors who use tartaric acid in imlee water to quit the hazardous practice. Strict action will be taken against sellers who will be discovered violating PFA’s orders
