Travelers Will Not Be Allowed In Pakistan Without ‘Corona Free Certificate’

International Arrival

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development has appealed to the government to make it mandatory for travelers to have a certificate that proves that the person traveling is virus-free.

Standing Committee member, Javed Shah said, “Just like it is essential for Pakistanis to carry a polio certificate while traveling to other countries, it should be made compulsory for foreigners to have a corona free certificate while coming to Pakistan.”

An official of the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination told the committee: “The government of China is providing all-out facilities to Pakistani students studying there, and those residing in Wuhan where the coronavirus broke out.”

The Gilgit Baltistan home department has taken action as a precautionary measure to stop Corona Virus from entering Pakistan.

The Pakistan-China border crossing point at Khunjerab Pass was all set to open in February until the outbreak of the deadly virus was reported in China.

The home department has insisted upon delaying opening the crossing point. Trade and travel activities between Pakistan and China take place through Khunjerb Pass.

The deadly virus hit China around the Lunar New year when everyone is traveling for holidays.

Cornova Virus

Reportedly, there have been 2,700 confirmed cases in China while other cases have been emerging around the globe which indicates that the virus has been spreading quickly.

Since the virus is relatively new, there are no vaccines as yet. The best approach to tackle the situation is to take precautionary measures.

The health department at Gilgit Baltistan has directed DHO in Hunza and director health to depute staff, medication, and ambulances to check people crossing the pass.

If in case, the region is affected by the virus, Balochistan has already built a team of 14 members’ technical committee to deal with the virus.

In Quetta, hospitals have already prepared isolation wards just in case of an emergency.

The health committees will directly be linked to the World Health Organisation and Unicef.

Transparency International Issues Report: Corruption Set a Record in 2019

Whatsapp

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan on Friday announced that lately published Transparency International (TI) report on crime was prejudiced.

Pakistan was indexed 120 out of 180 countries on the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2019 by the TI, a worldwide non-governmental organization ascertained in Berlin.

Speaking to the media in Islamabad on Friday afternoon, Awan explained that the report was unfair, declaring that there had been more crime in Pakistan during the government of retired premier Nawaz Sharif.

Furthermore, the assistant to the PM declared ”there is a long history of corruption in Sindh. The government of former premier Nawaz Sharif gave undue benefits to the chief of the group here in Pakistan,”

“Who will accept the Transparency International report?” Awan inquired, noting that the administration of Sharif had even given a prudent posting to the chief of TI in order to gain excessive endorsements.

The latest CPI report states that corruption in Pakistan boosted in 2019 as oppose to 2018.

Achieving 32 on the CPI in 2019, Pakistan not only dropped one point below the 2018 score of 33 but also lowered three stages in the world rating from the prior 117th to the latest 120th among 180 countries.

It implies that Pakistan, which was once the 63rd most violent country, is now 60th most corrupt region. This is also the first time in ten years that Pakistan enrolled a decrease in their CPI score

https://youtu.be/opCAG5Pgp_s

Awan added, ’corruption kings’ are using this report as a tool to hide their sins, but they will be disappointed. Moody’s and other international agencies have not only recognized an improvement in the country’s economic indicators but have also appreciated the efforts being taken by the government.”

Locals are now concerned that the meat is being sold in the area. As per ARY’s report, three donkey heads and their offal were found in a dump near the driving license branch.

It was then theorized that unidentified men after slaughtering the donkeys, fled away by throwing their offal.

The offal was removed from the area by the sanitation staff of the Clifton Cantonment Board. On the other hand, investigators are looking into the matter, authorities have recorded statements in regards to this.

Last year, the police had arrested 2 men for selling donkey and dog hides in Karachi in a godown in Korangi Industrial Area.

The suspects had concealed about 800 hides of dogs and donkeys stuffed in over 200 sacks, they said.

“The hides were collected from all over Pakistan and Afghanistan and then sent to China,” said the police according to ARY.

Why Imran Khan Won’t Criticize China: World Economic Forum 2020

Pakistan China

On Jan. 22, Prime Minister of Pakistan met with Foreign Policy’s editor in chief Jonathan Tepperman at the World Economic Forum 2020 meeting in Davos, Switzerland.

Jonathan Tepperman (JT) interviewed Khan and topics of the discussion revolved around Kashmir’s issue with Modi, meeting with Trump, and also why Khan won’t criticize China.

JT questioned Khan asking: “You’ve been very vocal about criticizing India’s treatment of its Muslims and the oppression of Muslims around the world, with one notable exception: China. Why have you been so quiet about the persecution of China’s Muslims in Xinjiang and elsewhere?”

To which Khan responded, “Well, two reasons. One main reason is that the scale of what is going on in China—and frankly, I don’t know much about it, I just occasionally read about it—is nothing compared to what is happening in Kashmir.”

JT added, “With all due respect, we’re talking about some 1 million to 2 million people being detained in Xinjiang. That’s not nothing.”

Khan then explained, But what is happening in Kashmir is 8 million people under siege for five months. Over the last 30 years, about 100,000 people have been killed in Kashmir. And all the top [Kashmiri] leadership is in jail. So it’s the scale of what is happening.”

He further added, “As far as the Uighurs, look—China has helped us. China came to help our government when we were at the rock bottom. So we are really grateful to the Chinese government, and we decided that whatever issues we will have with China, we will deal with them privately. We will not go public.”

Pakistan is allied with China and any issues faced in the future will be discussed privately and not public says the Prime Minister.

Jazz Introduces the World’s Most Affordable Smartphone

jazz super 4g phone

To improve digital access, Jazz, Pakistan’s leading digital company has launched Jazz Digit 4G – ‘Pakistan ka smartphone’ (Pakistan’s smartphone).

While Pakistan boasts having some of the cheapest tariff rates for voice and data, the main barrier to the internet has been the affordability of smartphones.

To help address this barrier Jazz has partnered with KaiOS Technologies to release the Jazz Digit 4G smartphone at the most affordable price point, offering a suite of unique features.

Jazz Digit 4G becomes the most affordable smart feature phone on the global market, at a down payment of just PKR 1800 (USD 11*).

The customer is required to sign up for a one-year service with Jazz at an extremely affordable PKR 300/ month which includes 1,000 minutes, 1000MB data, free SMS and free calling to doctors along with unlimited Facebook and WhatsApp for the first 3 months.

This initiative targets the wellbeing of the lesser privileged and underserved segment of our society with over 55% of Pakistan’s 165m subscribers using the feature and 2G phones with internet penetration standing at 35%. While access to the internet is said to be the most effective driver of GDP for emerging economies.

The smartphone comes equipped with a Jazz Super 4G SIM that powers WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, Google Maps, Google Voice, and Jazz TV as part of the 200 and more apps they can access at the KaiStore, since the device runs on KaiOS, the third-largest mobile operating system worldwide.

With a sophisticated front-and-back camera and flash, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Hotspot facility, this phone provides an almost all-inclusive feature set that any leading smartphone may have.

The launch event was attended by leading government and telecom leaders who lauded a private sector company for being invested in improving the country’s digital and financial inclusion landscape.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation and Chairperson BISP, Dr. Sania Nishtar stated, “The Ehsaas programme is the Government’s signature program dedicated towards poverty alleviation in Pakistan through leveraging technology and promoting access of the vulnerable population to digital and financial inclusion.”

She then continued, “Most of the digitally excluded segments are poor women and initiatives like KaiOS which further digital inclusion can improve outcomes significantly. Ehsaas has multiple initiatives that can utilize digital technologies to target the neediest populations effectively”

Whereas globally countries are looking to sunset 2G and focus more on 4G technology, Pakistan has been unable to effectively align with this global trend, due to regulatory policy challenges. This step by Jazz comes at the right time as the government pushes for an aggressive spectrum roadmap to propel digitalization.

Jazz CEO Aamir Ibrahim, who has been championing #DigitalPakistan for the past two years, said, “We want 2020 to start with this new device setting the benchmark for a nationwide 4G revolution. Although we have successfully tested 5G, our biggest challenge and opportunity is to take 2G customers to 4G and to offer good quality broadband to every Pakistani. We saw an inequality, and we went ahead and tried to fix it with this affordable phone.”

“We’re excited to help bring another device to the people of Pakistan,” said Sebastien Codeville, CEO of KaiOS Technologies. “The digital divide continues to be a persistent issue across the country, but we know smart feature phones, like the Digit 4G, will positively impact the lives of new users.”

Jazz celebrated its 25th-anniversary last year with a robust 60 million subscriber base, and this smartphone launch marks another milestone in the commitment to empowering Pakistan’s youth through technology.

Due to the overwhelming response from the audience, the makers of the drama ‘Mere Pass Tum Ho’ have decided to not air it on the small screen but instead air the last most anticipated episode in cinemas.

ARY Digital brought all the cast members together and also released a special episode following the release of the drama.

Rehmat Ajmal, who played a character in Mere Pass Tum Ho, says, “She is not proud to be part of the drama”.

She took it to her Instagram and penned down an extensive note of how she feels about the script.

Ajmal says, “I understand that we as artists have a social responsibility in terms of the content we produce and the messages we put forward – & that I take that responsibility with a lot of seriousness and dignity.”

She continued, “I’ve been receiving a lot of concerned, hateful and confused messages since the past few months and as much as I want to address them individually, I think I’ll just give an overview of my perspective for now.”

“I absolutely do not endorse the concepts and viewpoints of Mr. Khalil Ul Rehman. I watched Khalil ul Rehman’s interview and got to know about his problematic views on very many things WAY after the project was completed”

I’ve been receiving a lot of concerned, hateful and confused messages since the past few months and as much as I want to address them individually, I think I’ll just give an overview of my perspective for now. I absolutely do not endorse the concepts and viewpoints of Mr. Khalil Ul Rehman. I watched Khalil ul Rehman’s interview and got to know about his problematic views on very many things WAY after the project was completed. I am not proud to be a part of something that is so compromising and ill-informed. However, I (like many others) was not aware of the entire story line or Mr. Khalil ul Rehman’s ideology at the time this project was shot – which was a year ago. My role in this project is limited so, I did not get a chance to see how it’ll come together or how it’ll eventually unroll on television and that is where I think I slipped a little. It was my first ever telecom project and I am learning – I have learnt to be cautious and more conscious with my creative choices. Please extend new, struggling artists some leeway as we are in the process of learning – we are also trying very hard to make our own mark solely based on our merit.
