Exclusive: Mere Pass Tum Ho Bags an Unprecedented Rs.3 Crores (Approx.) In One Evening

Mere Pass Tum Ho in Cinemas

Khalil-ur-Rehman’s very popular yet controversial drama serial, Mere Pass Tum Ho witnessed an unprecedented audience resulting in box office earnings of approximately 3 crores in just one evening. The 2-hour long episode was released in cinemas on the 25th of January.

We spoke to Nadeem Mandviwalla, owner of Atrium cinemas regarding the success of the screening of the ARY Digital drama serial featuring Humayun Saeed, Ayeza Khan, Adnan Siddiqui, and Hira Mani. He stated that this was ‘unprecedented’. The largest box office hit was Humayun Saeed’s Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 during the Eid holidays when the shows started at 11 am”. “No film has ever done what MPTH has done in a single evening, earning almost 3 crores in just one evening.”

The last episode was released in cinemas in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad and had nearly all screens showing the episode with a 100% capacity.

The drama serial is based on themes of love, greed, and hatred and whilst very popular the drama and the writer both have received immense amount of criticism.

Rehman revealed on ARY Digital’s morning show Bakhabar Savera that since the feedback was massive he might as well write a sequel for the drama serial.

If there is a sequel coming our way, we are sure the audience will be glued to their tv screens once again or maybe even the silver screen?

The local automotive industry in Pakistan has been suffering for quite some time. However, the fiscal year of 2019-20 has turned out even worse in numbers.

Reportedly, automakers sold 43% fewer cars (59,097 units) during the first 6 months of the current financial year compared from a year ago (104,038 units).

Nonetheless, only one car managed to gain success despite the slump, none other than the 600cc Suzuki Alto.

Reportedly, the Alto 660cc managed to breach Pak Suzuki’s highest-ever monthly sales record with 4,924 units in September. Previously, Suzuki Mehran held this record with record 4,684 units.

Despite the fact that Pak Suzuki had increased the Alto’s price thrice in 6 months, sales hint otherwise, 23,658 units of Suzuki Alto were sold in the first 6 months of current fiscal year.

2020 Asia Cup: “India Won’t Play in Pakistan”-BCCI

2020 asia cup pakistan

Pakistan Cricket Board will host the T20 2020 Asia Cup in Pakistan. The tournament is expected to commence from September of this year.

However, despite the fact that international cricket is returning to the country with teams like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh playing successful tours, India still refuses to play in Pakistan.

Board of Control for Cricket in India has said in a statement that India will not be a part of the 2020 Asia Cup if the tournament is hosted by Pakistan.

“The question isn’t about the PCB hosting the tournament. It is about the venue and as things stand now, it is quite clear that we would need a neutral venue. There is no way that an Indian team can visit Pakistan to even participate in a multi-nation event like the Asia Cup,” a BCCI official told news agency IANS.

“If the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is ok with an Asia Cup minus India then it is a different ball game. But if India is to participate in the Asia Cup, then the venue cannot be Pakistan,” the official said.

We have now to see what will be the final decision of the Asian Cricket Council.

After 12 months of incubation at the innovation hub, including rigorous training, one-on-one mentoring sessions, access to industry experts and investors, most of these startups are now commercially growing and scaling their business to create positive economic and social impact.

Ten of the thirty-two graduating startups received “Stars of NIC and Jazz Xlr8” awards. These were awarded on the basis of investment raised, revenue generated and social impact created.

“Although we are celebrating the graduating startups here today, we are also celebrating the three-year collaboration between Jazz and the government of Pakistan for the NIC. The scale comes from joining hands and from public-private partnerships. This is how our vision of a truly #DigitalPakistan will become a reality,” said Aamir Ibrahim, CEO of Jazz.

NIC has on-boarded over 162 startups in 7 cohorts, with over 300 founders, creating over 5000 jobs, and generating investments of over PKR 500 Million.

“I congratulate those graduating today in making Pakistan’s innovation space robust and sustainable in its impact,” he further added.

Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui, Secretary IT, applauding the startups on their passion, focus, and determination, commented:

“It is overwhelming to see how IT is acting as an enabler across different industries, and startups are building on it to revolutionize sectors and contribute positively towards the economy”

Junaid Imam, CEO of Ignite, while addressing the graduating startups, commented, “The startup ecosystem is thriving, and we are all set to make it a strong pillar of Digital Pakistan.”

The national incubation center has startups from diverse genres including Health-tech, Ed-Tech, Fin-Tech, assistive technologies, and artificial intelligence among others.

Aamer Ejaz, Chief Digital & Strategy Officer of Jazz said, “We are committed to playing our part in supporting the startup ecosystem and empowering the youth to build a progressive and digital Pakistan through the NIC and Jazz xlr8.

The ceremony also marked the completion of three years of the National Incubation Centre, Islamabad. This achievement poses a promising future for entrepreneurial initiatives to flourish in the country, and the NIC will continue to strive forward in playing an integral role in the ecosystem.

Parvez Abbasi, Project Director at NIC, on this occasion remarked on the exponential growth witnessed by the ecosystem and appreciated how young talent is playing its role in shaping the future of Pakistan

“Pakistan has immense talent, and through initiatives like the NIC, we can empower the youth to come up with innovative solutions to daunting challenges faced by Pakistan.”

As a part of its vision to boost the ecosystem for more opportunities, NIC on this occasion launched a ‘NIC Startup Community App’, with an aim of providing a platform for investors, startups, partners and mentors to connect with each other.[1]

Zouhair Khaliq, Co-Founder Teamup on the completion of three years of NIC commented, “The startup eco-system in Pakistan has really matured in the last few years, and NIC has been pivotal in creating a sustained impact to develop and nurture innovative entrepreneurs and startups.”

Facebook Launches ‘Clear History’ Button

Facebook

On Tuesday, Facebook made the “Off-Facebook Activity” available for everyone.

Reportedly, South Korea and Ireland had it since last August, but all users have access to the feature now.

Facebook promised its users almost two years ago that it will give its users the ability to delete the browsing history. In case you did not know, Facebook uses your browsing history to serve personalized ads.

The feature can be seen on the Facebook App right now under the “Setting & Privacy” option.

Facebook

“View or clear activity from businesses and organizations that you visit off Facebook.”

You will now get a list of all the websites and apps that have been tracked by Facebook. If you wish to get rid of the data, all you have to do is just click on the “Clear History” button.

This might log you out of apps you might as well have used to log in with Facebook such as Spotify but you can always log back in.

Users still find it odd as to why Facebook requires your data to be harvested for ads purposes.

Worry no more! You have access to your stored data now.

IPhone SE2 – Everything We Know So Far

iPhone SE2

iPhone is one of those products that creates a hype of its own and people around the globe eagerly wait for the newest edition every year.

It might be nine months until consumers can get their hands on any of Apple’s newest iPhone 12 handsets.

However, that doesn’t imply the iOS-powered smartphones are a paradox. Not only do we understand many of the important features, but we also have a very good notion about the handset design.

Furthermore, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max are all scheduled to be disclosed somewhere in March 2020, as they’ll be available for the masses to purchase by the end of the month.

https://youtu.be/w9yhEag3JvI

Here’s what we have known so far about the iPhone’s latest iPhone.

1. Camera

The latest iPhone will come with a 12MP primary camera as the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Moreover, the iPhone 12 will come with an exciting modern long-range 3D camera that will be perfect for the users who are looking to brush up their photography game.

2. Design

Another thing that we learned is that iPhone SE2 may disappoint us when comes to go design.

Instead of the iPhone X-inspired peeks of current models, the iPhone SE2 will appear to look like an iPhone 8, complete with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor and no Face ID.

We’ve learned that this will make for a very convenient device you’ll easily be able to use using one hand. The device will also star a glass back to support wireless charging.

3. Display

The iPhone SE2 will have a 4.7-inch screen size. It is anticipated to feature improved brightness and color accuracy, but it will still be LCD and limited to a 1334 x 750 x resolution.

The newest device will come with 326ppi pixel density, which matches the iPhone 11. The iPhone SE2 will not, however, outline the 120Hz ProMotion displays coming to the iPhone 12 range.

However, the highlight of this X-inspired iPhone is expected to have a circa 5/4/5.5-inch display which is considerable.

4. Pricing

The greatest allure of the iPhone SE2 will be its cost. With Apple expected to commence prices from just $449 with 64GB and 128GB storage options available you might like to give this iPhone a shot.

However, let us warn you that you might get less for your old iPhone from Apple than you might have expected.

5. Performance

Besides, the iPhone 11’s primary camera, the other highlight is the iPhone SE2’s blazing fast Apple A13 chipset as the iPhone 11 range.

The sole camera and lower-resolution display will see Apple fit less RAM (expected to be 3GB) but the upside is that this will still be one of the fastest phones around and a match for any 2020 Android flagship.

In a nutshell

It might not be the most exciting iPhone Apple releases in 2020 but the iPhone SE2 is apt to be among the best selling devices.

It’s a hybrid of cutting edge performance and photography at a less price and sheltered inside a compact covering, will make it ideal for those on a budget as well as a great choice for kids and less tech-savvy family members which makes it easier to use the newer iPhone.

Protest Against Anti-Muslim Law: 7 Million People Form 620km-Long Human Chain

Indian Protest

In India’s southwest state of Kerala, 7 million people formed a 620km-long human chain to protest against the controversial Anti-Muslim Law, Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

The rare sight occurred on Sunday when India marked its 71st Republic Day. However, there were also people who stood united with different political views.

NDTV reported, “The protest was organized by Kerala’s ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), where millions of people – including chief minister and several newly-weds– lined up from Kasargod in the north of Kerala to Thiruvananthapuram in the south to register their protest against the new controversial move.”

Sangeetha Mohan, a Malayalam actress said, “I believe I am here because it’s my duty to stand up for other citizens who are being sidelined on the basis of caste, creed or religion. This is our India and I stand united with everyone against the Citizenship Amendment Act.”

India Today reported that Lakhs of people take to the streets of Kerala to form a mega human chain against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

What happens if the Citizenship Amendment Act is Passed?

A Citizenship Amendment Act was passed in December 2019 in India under which “citizens of six religions, Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains and Persians who came to India by December 31, 2014, from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh will be granted citizenship.”

Under the aforementioned law, Muslims coming from all three (Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh) countries will not be granted citizenship.

“We are not here for politics. It’s not about the party. We will live and die here in India,” says Muslim woman in Hijab present at the protest.

Someone at the protest added, “they (the government) are trying to scare us. We are all Indians, we are all humans. That’s why we have joined the human chain”.

Pakistani Students Appeal for Rescue from Wuhan City of China

Wuhan

The deadly Corona Virus has been spreading across China. Reportedly, there have been 2,700 confirmed cases in the region.

Pakistani students who are stuck in the Wuhan have appealed to the government of Pakistan for immediate rescue before they get infected by the deadly virus.

According to China’s state-owned Xinhua news agency, experts from the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said, “tests confirmed the virus first jumped from animals to humans inside the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in the heart of the city.”

The CDC said, “Thirty-one of the 33 positive samples were collected from the western zone of the market, where booths of wildlife trading concentrated.”

The virus has been spreading too quickly, other cases have been emerging around the globe which indicates that the situation can get much worse if not controlled.

Pakistan is preparing for itself in case of emergency and taking all the precautionary measures such as screening people on the airports. However, Pakistani students stuck in China have not been rescued as yet.

One of the students stuck in the city of Wuhan, Hafsa Tayab spoke to Geo News.

She further added: “There is a shortage of essentials and if this situation persists, we will run out of food very soon, We plead that the authorities take notice of our situation on a humanitarian basis and do something about it. We will be grateful to you all our lives.”

Senate passes bill: Allows 6 month paid maternity leave, 3 month paternity leave

Maternity leave

Paternity and maternity leaves are the right of all women around the globe. Sadly, in Pakistan, there are no laws in regard to this.

However, starting a family won’t be a problem for the working class since the Senate passed the Maternity and Paternity Leave Bill, 2018 on Monday.

The bill makes it necessary for employers to award 6-month paid maternity leave and 3-month paid paternity leave to workers.

According to the bill, the leaves the policy will be acceptable in both public and private organizations.

The bill, presented by Senator Quratulain Marri, was passed with a majority of votes, even as government senators opposed the move.

It will now be sent to the National Assembly for debate.

The bill reads ” the employees of every establishment shall be provided six-months paid maternity and three-months paternity leave as and when applied by employees, separately from their leave account, commencing from the date as applied by the applicant in the application and supported by a medical certificate.”

Furthermore, the ordinance also gives extra three-month maternity leave and one-month paternity leave, both of which would not be paid.

A lot of government officials are not in favor of the bill and Minister for Economic Affairs Hammad Azhar, while opposing the bill, told that there was already a law to give 90-day maternity leave to female employees, while male government employees could benefit 48-day leaves in a year.

He proposed lowering the number of paternity leaves to 15 days, adding that nowhere in the world was there a requirement for these many paternity leaves.

Let’s hope Pakistan understands the grave importance of raising a child and employers learn to be supportive.

Freelancers No Longer Need to Worry about PayPal Coming to Pakistan!

JS Bank

Pakistan is a country with many talents. Did you know that we have the world’s 4th largest freelance market? And that it is growing day after day?

It’s all thanks to calling centers, software houses, tech companies, and content freelancers who outsource their work.

However, this booming sector faces one major challenge which has effected a lot of business and payments.

Unfortunately despite having the skills, Pakistan does not have popular options like PayPal to wires payments securely and on time.

Realizing the importance of the sector and that it was in need of a solution, JS Bank decided to partner up with Paysend, one of the fastest-growing international money transfer services under the State Bank of Pakistan’s initiative of Home Remittance Account (HRA), to introduce their very own ‘Freelance Wallet’.

This global payment product will allow all freelancers to receive payments from more than 40 countries directly on their mobile numbers.

Reality Girl – Fighting Child Abuse One Comic at a Time

Child abuse is a scary topic, yet it is an important one given the current situation of the country. Every day, we hear more and more cases about children being abducted, raped and then murdered.

While this crisis is on the rise, people like Abbas Saleem Khan (founder of Optera Digital) are helping to spread awareness using creativity through an illustrated comic called ‘Reality Girl’.

The comic is based on the topic of child abuse in Pakistan. The reality of what homeless children have to face on a daily basis has been portrayed in Reality Girl.

Another important it highlights is what happens with children when they are left alone on busses and with drivers. Furthermore, it also tackles drug abuse amongst children as well.

Because of the sensitive content which is talked about in the comic, the viewership has been set to 16+ and has a trigger warning clearly mentioned on the cover.

The story is narrated through the main character Sarah after working with NGOs and organizations including SOS Village, Sahil, Aas Trust, and LettucceBee Kids.

Sarah belongs to a well-to-do family, she loves to socialize and hang at the mall, as well as spend money on everything she wants but does not need. However, Sarah is also someone who is selfless and who feels for others.

One day, she witnesses a boy at a bus stop who is screaming for help. When she approaches the scenario, she realizes that the child was abused.

Unable to sleep at night because of the horror, she decides she has to do something about this.

She then vows to protect the homeless children in Pakistan who need a savior.

Reality Girl is available on the comic’s website here.
