Fatema Sohail filed a petition in court demanding monthly expenses from the former husband, Mohsin Abbas.

YouTube Ads of 100 Top Brands Fund Climate Misinformation

Youtube

The activist group, Avaaz conducted a study and found out that the biggest companies in the world are using Youtube’s platform to spread misinformation regarding climate.

It has been reported that the agenda is being heavily funded by the business giants across the globe.

Samsung, L’Oreal, and Decathlon were a few of the brands included. However, they were unaware of the fact that their adverts were being played before and during the videos.

Avaaz discovered that more than 100 brands were advertising misinformation on Youtube videos and were very much actively promoting climate misinformation.

YouTube

A senior campaigner at the group, Julie Deruy says, “YouTube should not feature, suggest, promote, advertise or lead users to misinformation.”

She added, “This is not about free speech, this is about the free advertising YouTube is giving to factually inaccurate videos that risk confusing people about one of the biggest crises of our time.”

The group argued, “YouTube has previously taken welcome steps to protect its users from anti-vaccine and conspiracy theories, but has not acted with equal force against broader misinformation and disinformation content, including climate misinformation.”

“The information promoted by these videos is in direct contradiction with L’Oréal’s commitments and the work we have been carrying out for many years to protect the environment. We are collaborating with YouTube teams asking them to use all the technological means at their disposal to better inform the platform’s users about the nature of these videos and to limit their impact.” says a spokesperson from L’Oréal.

Youtube’s statement on the matter:

“We can’t speak to Avaaz’s methodology or results, and our recommendations systems are not designed to filter or demote videos or channels based on specific perspectives. YouTube has strict ad policies that govern where ads are allowed to appear and we give advertisers tools to opt-out of content that doesn’t align with their brand. We’ve also significantly invested in reducing recommendations of borderline content and harmful misinformation, and raising up authoritative voices on YouTube. In 2019 alone, the consumption of authoritative news publishers’ channels grew by 60%. As our systems appear to have done in the majority of cases in this report, we prioritize authoritative voices for millions of news and information queries, and surface information panels on topics prone to misinformation — including climate change — to provide users with context alongside their content. We continue to expand these efforts to more topics and countries.”

Lipton Unveils their New Campaign “Jaagain Unke Liye Jo Waqai Ehem Hain” with Their New TVC

Lipton

Lipton, one of the world’s leading tea brands owned by Unilever, recently unveiled its new TVC. The brand is moving to a platform of enabling connection moments with our loved ones.

The insight behind the campaign is something everyone in today’s world can relate to. In the busyness of life, we tend to get so involved in the things we have to do, we don’t prioritize taking out time to make a connection with the ones who matter the most.

The message was brought to life through Lipton’s new TVC, which shows a father unconsciously slipping into work mode, ignoring playtime with his daughter.

A sip of Lipton brings him back into the moment, and he actively prioritizes his daughter over his other tasks. The message is simple: “Jaagein un ke liye jo waqai ahem hain” (Be awake to those who really matter).

The new TVC campaign has been launched nationwide and has stirred up a lot of conversation about the importance of taking out time for human connection in today’s fast-paced life.

HEALTH ALERT: Pakistan Issues Health Advisory for Coronavirus, Passengers to be Screened at Airports

coronavirus pakistan

China is dealing with an infection outbreak as they prepare for holidays for the Lunar New Year.

The new virus is spreading rapidly as the number of people affected has tripled over the weekend, reports CNN. Over 200 cases have been reported of the infection in the Wuhan region while others were reported from Shanghai, Beijing, and Shenzhen.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) issued an advisory to health staff at border posts and health care institutions asking them to take precautions against this deadly virus which has caused massive panic in China.

Given that there are a large number of flights operating to and from China, each passenger will go through a process of screening.

It instructed officials to probe anyone who may have had “direct contact with infected animals, seafood, meat or any other animal products in the markets of Wuhan City China, within 14 days before the onset of illness”.

NIH said that the health facilities should follow the same precautions that doctors follow during “seasonal influenza” if they come across such a case. The NIH asked hospitals to “ensure that standard precautions including hand and respiratory hygiene are being followed by using personal protective equipment”.

china virus

On the other hand, the World Health Organization has advised people to avoid contact with animals. If in case, you do, make sure it is protected. Scientists believe that the primary source of the outbreak is animals. However, some human to human transmission has also taken place.

Coronavirus Symptoms

Anyone with fever, cough, and breathing difficulties requires a medical checkup as the symptoms indicate that this might be the newest infection.

What you should do to avoid the infection?

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water or with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

Keep your hands and fingers away from your eyes, nose, and mouth.

Avoid contact with people who seem to show symptoms of respiratory illness.

Eat well-cooked meat. Wash it thoroughly to make sure you’re safe.

Eggs might as well also contain the bacteria. Be sure to cook them well too.

The virus has caused casualties too so it is advised to wear face masks and take other precautionary measures.

Coronavirus Treatment

There are no vaccines or antiviral drugs that are approved for prevention or treatment. However, you should treat it as cold by getting plenty of rest, have lots of fluids, and take over-the-counter meds for fever and soar throat.

Experts say that the outbreak has brought back memories of the Sars virus from the early 2000s that spread across Asia.

Sheheryar Munawar and Hania Aamir Are Pairing Up For Wajahat Rauf’s Upcoming Venture

Shehryar and Hania

Sheryar Munawar and Hania Aamir have come together for Wajahat Rauf’s upcoming venture. The news has been circulating on social media but there have been no official statements made by the director or the producer of the film.

We reached out to Wajahut Rauf, the director of the film regarding the news and he said, “The confirmation will come after 2 days”, “Nothing is confirmed as yet.”

This is the first time Shehryar and Hania will be paired on-screen and we have yet to find if the duo will work its magic together or not.

There aren’t many films we know of that are going to release this year. The Pakistani Film Industry has already plummeted into the dark with dramas releasing in the cinemas and not films.

“Zindagi Tamasha” by Sarmad Khoosat was all set to release at the beginning of the year but now we are unsure of that too now.

Wajahat

According to a source, Wajahat Rauf’s newest venture does not have a name yet but it has been said it is for sure a romantic comedy but with a twist. Wajahat is planning to address taboo subjects in his next.

The film is written by Mohsin Ali, who is also best known for writing Wrong No.

The film will be produced under the banner of Showcase Productions with Zayed Sheikh, who co-produced and acted in Chuppan Chuppai.

This is a developing story.

Naseeruddin Shah Thinks He Can No Longer Live In India As a ‘Muslim’

Nas

Legendary actor, Naseeruddin Shah has expressed his concern over the current situation in India regarding the newest passed law.

The 69-year-old Bollywood actor said he can no longer live in India as a Muslim.

This is the first time the actor is speaking up against the controversial citizenship law created in December 2019.

He and his family think that it is difficult for them to stay in India and also be a Muslim at the same time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhoDnR-4f6U

In his defence, he said he has been living here as a Muslim for 70 years and has also been working for the industry for as long as he has.

He asked in disappointment if that is not enough proof of his Indianness than what should he do?

He fears his Muslim identity is in danger.

In regard to the controversial citizenship law, Naseeruddin Shah thinks it was sad that none of the most influential Bollywood actors and personalities spoke up against it or used their reach to spread the message of peace across.

He thinks the silence speaks for itself and that’s what has been worrying him the most.

A Citizenship Act was passed in December 2019 in India under which “citizens of six religions, Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains and Persians who came to India by December 31, 2014, from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh will be granted citizenship.

Under the aforementioned law, Muslims coming from all three countries will not be granted citizenship.”

Exclusive: Imran Khan Pitches Pakistan’s Investment Potential at World Economic Forum Davos 2020

Imran Khan

Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan pitched Pakistan as a viable investment destination for foreign firms at the World Economic Forum 2020.

Khan emphasized the fact that stability in the region is the utmost concern for his government as it as one of the key elements that strengthen any county’s economy.

Khan stated, “Pakistan in the ’80s became part of what was the Afghan Jihaad. Pakistan became allied with the US to fight for freedom in Afghanistan from the soviets. We had militant groups in Pakistan trained to do guerilla activities in Afghanistan. Once that ended, once the Soviets left. We were left with the militant groups and Pakistan suffered the consequences.”

The consequences of the militant groups left behind in Pakistan greatly affected the economic growth of the country.

Khan also stated, “We inherited the worst economic crisis in our country. The biggest current account deficit, the biggest fiscal deficit. Reserves that would have lasted a month.”

He appreciates the efforts of his team who helped him take tough economic decisions for which he also received massive backlash. He further added that due to the efforts undertaken by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government, foreign investment “rose by 200pc in just one year”.

Khan mentioned that our economy has now stabilized, the stock market has gone up and things are looking better for us. As per the prime minister, we are heading in the right direction.

Pakistan’s population is its biggest advantage as 60% of the population is under the age of 30. The young population can be provided with skills and trained to start their own business to uplift the industries in the country.

World Economic Forum has partnered with Pakistan to help equip the young generation of the country to eventually boost the economy in the long run.

Khan also mentioned that it is unfortunate for Pakistan as it’s mineral reserves (Gold and Copper) are untouched.

During the dialogue, he also spoke about the fertile agricultural land but unfortunately with very low productivity. He pointed out that China has been a great help in this regard as CPEC affects the agricultural lands of the country.

He further said his party is looking towards digitization. He added,  “We have young experts working on a digital Pakistan. We have invited foreign companies to invest.”

Pakistan’s strategic location is one of the best in the world with China, and India as its neighboring countries. The biggest challenge right now is to stabilize the relationship between India and Pakistan to enhance trade in the region.

“The first year was spent stabilizing the economy. This year is the year of growth. We are doing everything possible to attract investment, make it easy for our local industries to invest by giving them incentives. It is for the first time since the 1960s that the government is consciously planning to help its industries grow.”

Tekken Prodigy Arslan Ash to Defend His Title at EVO Japan 2020!

Arsalan Ash

One year after making history by winning EVO Japan 2019, the young Tekken master Arslan Ash intends to make history as he sets off to participate in the prestigious tournament again.

While last year, he was the ultimate underdog trying his luck for the first time, this year he enters the competition with a target on his back.

As the EVO Japan 2019 champion, Ash will be looking to retain his crown this year – something he admits is more difficult. “I feel different going into EVO Japan 2020 because I am practically defending my title and it’s more difficult to defend the title than win it,” said the Tekken crown-bearer in an earlier interview with Red Bull.“So, the pressure is on. And people are preparing to face me. You never know what happens but I will, of course, give me 100%.”

The pressure is high but Ash isn’t nervous at all. His intensive practice routine has paid off so far and he believes it will continue to. “I wake up at 4 am, pray and go to the gym. Then from around noon to eight or nine at night, I practice Tekken,” he said. “I am trying not to make the mistakes I made in the world tour last year and to devise perfect gameplay. I go to different arcades every day so that I get accustomed to different kinds of players and face different threats and strategies.”

Ash believes he is 80-90% ready to compete. Since Tekken World Tour in 2019, he has added Zafina to his collection of players, besides Kazumi and Geese.

As he prepares to continue his winning streak and conquer EVO Japan 2020, Ash does believe Japanese, Korean and Pakistani Tekken players offer the strongest competition in the world and therefore he must be prepared. “I just want to win it all again,” he said. “People have more expectations this time around. The spotlight is on me. I feel in a way it’s my national responsibility and I hope that I win again and make Pakistan proud.”

With EVO Japan 2020 starting in just a few days, Ash is determined to win again, retain his title of the top Tekken player in the world and make Pakistan proud.

PEMRA Takes Action Against Programs & Channels

PEMRA

The National Assembly Standing on Information and Broadcasting on Monday pleaded Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) to prepare a mechanism to guarantee that no defamatory and phony news was telecast on electronic media against any decent member of the society comprising legislators for the sake of rating.

The council meeting chaired by Javed Latif MNA examined that some specific news channels day-to-day telecasted fake news to earn better ratings but no action was taken against them.

Moreover, the decision was again reverted and the ban was removed which left a poor reflection on PEMRA working.

PEMRA took it to twitter to share the news channels who aired fake news for high ratings and channels like 24 News, Geo News, ARY News, and 92 News were included.

Have a look at the list of fake news the channels aired:

The committee also communicated its displeasure over Pemra’s warning of imposing a ban on the ARY News program `Off the Record` without hearing the host or its management.

The ARY has been convened on January 24 for hearing their point of view on their request. The ultimate verdict will be taken after hearing the channel.

He said the PEMRA took instant action and directed ARY to prevent repeating the program of Kashif Abbasi but ARY did not obey and carried on the program.

On this PEMRA issued show-cause notice, however, the action was held in abeyance on the request of ARY.

MNA Aftab Jehangir also put forward the case of a feature film “Zindgi Tamasha” and announced the committee should examine the issue.

Secretary Information Akbar Hussain Durrani informed the committee that Censor Board had approved the film for release twice, but now a third party has filed an application.

Instagram to Remove IGTV Button From App

IGTV

Back in 2018, Instagram initiated its long-form video brand IGTV. We’re less than a month into 2020 and maybe the most well-known way to access IGTV is going away.

Wondering what went wrong? Well, there’s more to learn about this news flash.

Instagram will remove the IGTV button that appears at the top right corner of users’ home screens in the main Instagram app. The reason is that no one was willingly tapping on that button.

However, that doesn’t imply that IGTV is going away or even being scaled back in any meaningful way.

That button was just one pathway into the distinguished world of IGTV. You can still find it in previews on your news feed, an entire IGTV page in the Explore tab, and on the profile page of any user who has made IGTV videos. Relieved? Excellent!

It was reported that very few people were downloading the app of IGTV. It was estimated that the app had only 7 million downloads since the day it had been launched.

When compared to TikTok, another popular app liked by the millennial generation is listed on having over 100 million downloads from the launching date!

As IGTV app is not going anywhere any time soon, the button removal and poor app download could potentially see the feature folded into the Instagram core offering soon.

In November Instagram announced a test of removing public like counts. The move was aimed to tackle online bullying and peer pressure on influencers.

Nonetheless, it has prompted some users to accuse the app of looking instead to increase direct advertising by reducing the influence of its top users.

PTV Wants to Charge You Rs. 100 Extra from Your Electricity Bill!

PTV

Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) will now charge every Pakistani Rs. 100 more on their electricity bill.

The reason behind this charge is to overcome its annual financial loss of Rs. 17 billion. Previously, the license fee that had been set was Rs. 35.

Now, consumers that have already faced a 40% surge in bills will have to pay this additional amount to make sure that the state-owned television channel’s operational costs are generated.

However, the proposal now awaits Prime Minister Imran Khan’s final approval. Furthermore, it is vital to add that during a board meeting in October 2019, it was found that PTV was not attracting viewers. Hence, the government has stopped airing ads on it!

Syed Ali Bukhari, a member of the PTV board, shared that it was people’s responsibility to contribute to the revival of state-run television.

What do you think about this? Is it our responsibility to help run the state-own channel? Or is this unjustified?
