These events serve as particular reminders of history or a hope for the future. In Islam, the festivities of ‘Eid’ are celebrated each year. There are two Eids, each with rich history behind them. People prepare all year around to partake in the activities of the day.However, this year, the Eid days went by quite quietly due to the whole pandemic situation.

Similarly, in Christianity, there are events to be celebrated. There is Halloween, Valentine’s Day, Thanksgiving and Easter. Towards the end of each year, however, it is the time of Christmas. So, gow will Christmas be different during these trying times?

1. The Christmas Trees:

Many businesses have been affected this year. This is due to the fact that not every organization could work all their employees at once. Strict social distancing regulations have reduced the inflow of revenue by a huge margin. There may be some hindrances even when it comes to Christmas.

Usually, you might find yourself out in search of a tree or on your way to chop down one. Due to the slow business days, it may be harder to get a tree. Instead, if you find yourself not able to get a tree, you can try substitution of it. You can make a tree out of other materials and give it a particular shape. Similarly, plastic trees are not out of the question either.

2. Christmas Parties:

Every year, many offices hold Christmas parties. While it is true that everyone is given a chance to go home for the holidays, people can always opt to stay back. In such a case, offices host gatherings at the venue for employees so they may bask in the spirit of Christmas.

In 2020, even Christmas parties may not be as common. Due to offices working at half capacity and businesses shutting down, it is impossible to have a large gathering. You may find yourself spending the day at home, indulging in other extracurriculars.

3. Christmas Carols:

It is a known tradition that people often visit other people and sing Christmas carols. They move from door and door and bless each of the homes with their kind and loving words. Nothing encourages the spirit of Christmas more than singing Carols together as a family.

However, since gatherings and close proximity to people is not advised, there may not be door to door singing. Instead, Christmas carols can be sung by people in an online meeting. They can even put out a google form, asking people to drop their email IDs. Then, they can ask the people to join the meeting where they may enjoy the experience together.

4. Online Shopping:

With the pandemic raging ahead with the second wave, a lot of places have strict timings and regulations. Instead is browsing through super stores for hours, you can switch towards online shopping. Any gifts you wish to get, can be ordered online!

This not only ensures a safe environment to celebrate Christmas, it even gives one more options to select from. It is better to shop online than go to the store and have the goods not in stock.

5. Video Family Meetings:

Christmas is a time to be with family. Whether people are next door or a hundred miles away, they want to be with family in time for Christmas. Gathering around a fire, roasting marshmallows and telling stories is a fun activity.

Of course, due to current situations, it may not be possible or advised to openly travel. In such a case, people can hold video conference with all their family members. This way, no connections are lost and everyone can enjoy the spirit of Christmas from the comfort of their homes!

The past few years have been great for the automotive industry of Pakistan. It used to be an industry which was dominated by a few manufacturers who had been making cars for our industry since a few decades.

Things have changed a lot now. With KIA launching Picanto and Sportage in the Pakistani market, along with Renault Pakistan acquiring a space in Faisalabad, Hyundai Nishat Motors launching Tucson for the SUV category while hinting towards more locally manufactured cars, Proton X70 launching; it is safe to say that Pakistani auto industry has shown a record growth in terms of investments.

What Is Ghandhara Nissan Limited Launching?

Ghandhara Nissan Limited (GNL) was founded and registered in 8th August 1981 in Pakistan and is based in Karachi. The company has been in the industry for a long time and has manufactured numerous commercial vehicles, and catered their clientele with after sales services for almost four decades.

Now, several sources claim that the company intends to enter the consumer market segment and launch a car that could be used for domestic purposes by families and/or personal use.

Keeping all these considerations, the company has planned to launch Chery SUV in the Pakistani market in collaboration with Chinese auto manufacturers, Chery Automobile Company. The same sources also claim that all cars will be manufactured in Pakistan rather than opting for imports, which is great news for the Pakistani market.

The company is known around the world for its Chery Tiggo 8 models that are anticipated to be launched by local car enthusiasts.

It is also important to note that Chery Automobile Company has already made an attempt in the past to enter the Pakistani market by launching Chery QQ in 2005. However, experts claim that this time it will be a lot different as Ghandhara Nissan Limited (GNL) who already have experience of almost 40 years in the Pakistani market will be collaborating with the new entrant which might be a key factor that will make all the difference.

Many Pakistani car enthusiasts have complained in the past about the limited prices and features in locally manufactured cars which lead to a surge in many dealers importing Japanese cars to the country, however, with so many new manufacturers entering the market and setting up their local car assembling plants, many new cars are expected to be launched in the upcoming years.

Surf Excel Puts Up A Washable Billboard To Introduce Its New “Stain Lifter Technology”

Surf Excel has been leading its promotions by always doing something out-of-the-box. After gaining considerable attention through the stain hijack of broadcast screens earlier this year, Surf Excel has now executed an innovative stunt. The brand installed a washable billboard that was washed in a live performance to accelerate and put out the product’s functionality with their new “Stain Lifter Technology”.

Surf Excel’s new and improved variant asserts to remove the hardest of stains, even those that are up to 100 hours old, in just a single wash. This coined the idea of #100HourDaaghBillboard: a billboard that could be stained and then washed.

Multiple socially-distanced children and leading influencers took part in staining the huge T-shirt placed on the billboard. The activity went on over a span of 48 hours. Carrying forward the brand’s big idea of “Dirt is good”, which allows kids to be playfully themselves, the activities included kicking footballs dunked in staining material, painting the shirt with giant paint-brushes, slingshots, and water guns filled with staining matter.

The execution was showcased live on Facebook, where the audience was engaged to take part in sending in “staining emojis” of their choice. To amplify the execution of the event news announcements were made on national television, with Arsh who is one of Pakistan’s favorite child stars and popularly known as “Surf Excel” kid sharing the activity details.

This created a buzz online on popular social media platforms.  Known influencers and publications put up stories and engaged their followers to stain the shirt and were quite interested to check Surf Excel’s claim. On the third day, influencers were invited to further toughen and dry the 76-hour old stains with giant-sized fans, irons, and leaf blowers. This was done to further push the idea of whether Surf Excel will be able to beat the most stubborn, sticky, and impossible to wash-off stains.

The fourth day was the ultimate showcase of whether Surf Excel could prove its claim to remove the even 100 hours old stains. A giant machine was placed to wash the shirt as people on-ground and online remained excited about the final reveal. Finally, when the moment of reveal arrived, the shirt was lifted back up on the billboard. It was white and completely spotless! The activity assured its users they could trust the reformulated product and that Surf Excel proved its effectiveness yet again.

The Courageous Bykea Rider Fights Off Robbers

Transportation has always been quite an issue in Pakistan, especially with the local buses’ degrading conditions. This was so until the arrival of numerous transportation services that provided a range of vehicles at the travelers’ disposal. Now, people could choose from cars to rickshaws to even bikes. The fares also seemed nominal, but what about other factors; factors such as accidents, thefts, or robberies, that the riders had to face?

This question was answered by this Bykea rider, who basically made the statement that the riders need to stand up for themselves and adopt this life skill. Maybe, to roam the streets now, the brands need to hire such riders who can deal with incidents like these themselves.

So what really happened on the streets of Pakistan

The Bykea rider was having his typical day in his green shirt and helmet. But in the street, two bike riders came along and brought up a pistol. They tried to rob him at gunpoint. But the Bykea rider didn’t give in to the fear. And instead of giving up his valuables, he grabbed their pistol. With a little tugging, he was able to snatch it.

And hence the robbers became the robbed! 

He shouted that they are not going to get the gun back, so they should be on their merry way.

Bykea Rider and The Neighbours

The street was full of people peeping outside their gates or windows, possibly scared of the robbers. But when the bykea rider successfully overcame the robbers and scared them away, they quickly came out to pick up his fallen bike. Some even reprimanded him because this could have gone very wrong.

Well, one cannot wholly disregard those neighbors. Sometimes you indeed need t stand up, but what if the robbers were unphased with the fact that they could kill as well. So what if they had pulled the trigger in the struggle? And what if that bullet had gone on to hit a kid hanging from a terrace?

So yes, it was a courageous thing that the Bykea rider did. He was able to save his belongings. But you should not try this if you are not confident that the pistol is loaded or not.

New Coronavirus Strain Has Reached Pakistan

[Update]: The Pakistani government had banned flights from Saudi Arabia and the UK to avoid the import of the virus in the country. However, did that stop it? Not really. The news has surfaced that the new coronavirus strain has reached Pakistan. It was detected but it has been sent for further confirmation to Karachi University. 

Let’s see how deadly this one is and after how much time will its vaccine go into production.

What Do We Know So Far?

The scientists in the UK recently revealed a newly identified variant of the coronavirus that has been shown to be more contagious than the initial version of the virus.

Prime Minister of the UK, Boris Johnson has immediately ordered to tighten the restrictions as new researches and revelations showed how fast this version of the virus was spreading throughout the UK.

The announcement prompted travel bans and restrictions from numerous countries all around the world including France, Germany and other European countries along with a lot of Asian countries too.

How Did The Researchers Uncover This Variant?

This variant of Coronavirus came to the researchers attention in the month of December when the number of active cases started to arise exponentially from Southern England, several sources claim that the variant existed as early as the month of September. The mutation is referred to as B.1.1.7 lineage by the researchers.

A few weeks back, the news of vaccine introduced by Pfizer and BioNTech was applauded by the world as many were relieved that the pandemic-struck world would be soon able to get normal.

Now, this news about the new variant of the Coronavirus has increased concerns of the public, majority of whom were already preparing for the Christmas festivities and holidays and took to Twitter and expressed their despair.

Even though the revelations regarding the new variant of the virus are still preliminary, the world is taking no risks as the impact of the excessive cases of the virus earlier this year really infiltrated the healthcare facilities with patients and overburdened their capacity.

As the world is moving forward, and more awareness regarding the virus, quarantine and prevention against it is well-known, the burden on the healthcare was decreasing to some extent.

Skating Force Introduced In Sindh To End Street Crimes

If you thought that the Pakistani government is not doing anything about air pollution, they have an answer for you. In fact, no one could have thought of tackling air pollution and street crimes the way Sindh Police is doing. Because they probably knew that giving patrol cars and bikes would add to the already degrading atmosphere of Karachi, they are forming a skating force.

Yes, you heard that right. A police force where the policemen and policewomen will be riding on skates. In this special force, there are ten males and ten female personnel. This skater police force was announced on Wednesday by Karachi Police. The police department released a video of the skating force where they were supposedly training. In the video, they can be seen skating and firing at pretend targets.

The police have said that the skating force will serve under Special Security Unit, and their main task will be to catch criminals who try to run away and the normal force is unable to catch them due to traffic jams, roadblocks, or narrow streets. The training for such situations have apparently started a month ago, and the exercises included crossing hurdles, going up and down the stairs, and handling weapons while being on skates.

Karachi Police

According to the Karachi Police, the traffic signals and the hotspots where the traffic jams happen at a greater frequency, the street crimes are rampant. So while they are beginning to test the scenario out, the skater force, for now, includes 20 people. However, they plan to increase the number and add more young, talented, and passionate police officers.

Let’s say a crime occurs, and the police force is deployed and tasked with catching the criminal. The skater force will travel with the other officers in the police cars/vans. And if the van was to hit a traffic jam or any other road-related hurdle such as parked cars, narrow alleys, or street corners, the skater force will jump into action.

The police, in talks with a local news publication, has said:

“If we can prevent even one incident of street crime or respond effectively to a complaint, we will consider this a success.”

The police are also considering deploying this force inside and in the vicinity of shopping malls to deal with pickpockets and snatchers. The police spokesperson has added that the skater force will be placed only in the areas with properly constructed roads.

Say What?

Now, wait a minute. Are you serious? Are there even average constructed roads in Karachi, let alone properly constructed ones? Not just potholes, but after every 2 seconds, you will find a speed breaker on the road or cracks on the road that are six months fresh. Can one really have a skating force in Karachi? And if you are planning to deploy the skating force on Shahrahe Faisal only, then that is very stupid considering the heavy traffic on it, which could be very dangerous for the force.

Pakistan assembled Elantra will come with a 1.6 litre engine. That is 1600cc of power beneath the hood. It will even have Eco, Sports and Manual mode. There is an on-going rumour that the Elantra might have a 2.0 Litre engine in its highest variant. If that happens, this car is dipping itself into the borders of bigger vehicles.

In terms of transmission, the vehicle will feature a 6-Speed automatic. There can be a possibility of a 6-Speed manual in the base version, however, it is not confirmed. It will have Disc Brakes in the front and drum on the rear.

Price Bracket:

Currently, no fixed price of the vehicle is confirmed. However, estimates may place the vehicle in the bracket of Rs.35-40 Lac. This seems quite an impressive vehicle with the price it is being offered in.

This vehicle is rumoured to be released with quite a lot of hype and anticipation. Hyundai always releases unique cars which grip the user and keep them hooked on the vehicle for a long time. We hope the vehicle seed a successful release here!

A brilliant example of not letting your circumstances come in the way of your education was set today at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

On 21st December, a picture surfaced on Twitter of a student who brought her newborn baby to the examination hall. Newborn babies need intense care and observation and since she could not concentrate, the examiner offered to help.

In the picture, it can be clearly seen that the examiner held the baby like his own so that the mother could concentrate on her examinations.

The pandemic has already affected the education sector all around the world. Researches reveal that the number of applicants that have applied for admissions has reduced drastically due to financial uncertainty and a decrease in the quality of education.

A few months back, somewhat a similar scenario occurred at Kabul University where a teacher was seen taking care of one of her student’s child and fed the child so the mother could focus on her lecture.

A lifetime supply of free Pizza, can you imagine it? Well, I can only think of heaven. And apparently, this Australian family has found their heaven on earth. How cute is it that the day they get blessed by a son, they are able to get pizza free for a lifetime? Domino’s Pizza made it happen for them. And the offer is valid for the next 60 years!

The story behind it all

So how it happened was that the fast-food chain had a competition to celebrate their 60th anniversary. In this promotion, Domino’s had pregnant couples as participants. So were they to give birth on the 60th anniversary and name their child Dominic or Dominique, they would be eligible for the prize. And so on December 9th, 2020, exactly six hours after the competition began, a Sydney based couple gave birth to a boy. They named him Dominic. Clemintine and Anthony welcomed their first child early morning on that day.

Let’s pay a little bit more attention to the prize now, shall we?

The details are that the couple will be able to order $14 worth of pizza every month. In the next sixty years, the price of all the pizzas ordered will amount to $10,080.

“Weighing in at 3.907kg, or approximately 23 garlic breads, he is the first baby for the couple and clearly a born winner. Not only was he always destined to be named Dominic (the top choice on mum and dad’s baby name list), but he ensured his debut early on Wednesday morning made his family the front runners for Domino’s 60th Birthday Giveaway – despite mum going into labour three days earlier!”

Talk about destiny.

Apparently, the Lot Family had taken the competition’s announcement as a joke because little Dominic was going to arrive on Tuesday and not Wednesday.

Was Dominic always supposed to be Dominic?

The parents claim that they were already going to name their little one Dominic, so this win comes as a coincidence. In fact, they had decided to name him that days before they came across the advertisement. Clemintine Oldfield further added that this was her favorite name, and they had chosen it when they found the baby’s gender.

The competition was going to stay open till January 2021, and until then, the couples all over Australia would have to send their eligibility applications through email confirming themselves as candidates.

Well, little Dominic, Clemintine, and Anthony have emerged lucky winners. Although one is bound to think a little about thirty years into the future and what would the thirty-year-old Dominic will get in $14.

PMC Admission Criteria 2021: Private Medical & Dental Colleges

If you are a medical student aspiring to seek education in your field, this post is for you. Everything related to the education in medical fields gets rerouted to the candidates through Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC). So for the academic year starting in 2021 as well, PMC has announced the admission process. These guidelines are concerning private medical and dental colleges.

The Commission has released the instructions in a four-part series. But the most important clause is that the candidates who have attained 12 years of education abroad are exempted from the MDCAT exam. They do, however, have to submit SAT scores, and a score below 480 in any SAT II subject would make them ineligible. It should be noted, though, that this exemption is only for the year 2021.

Eligibility

Moreover, since SAT-I was not held globally, the candidates do not need to submit English scores. They need to submit the scores for these subjects: Biology, Chemistry, and Physics/Maths.  

The students who got their education locally need to have a minimum of 65% result in their FSc or HSSC. If the candidates have attained education in the Cambridge system, they need to show 65% or more in their IBCC equivalent certificate of their A-levels result.

They have clearly highlighted no quota system for international students this time, and everything shall be on merit. So if the application is not fulfilling any eligibility criteria, they will be rejected.

Merit 

The whole admission process, the PMC says, will be on merit. And the way they will be calculating the merit is around the following weightage:

– F-SC/A-Levels IBCC equivalence certificate: 30%
– MDCAT/SAT-II: 50%
– Interview: 20%

Aside from fulfilling the merit criteria, the applicants also need to present some documents. These documents include Picture (preferably passport size), CNIC/Passport (something to identify you with), F-SC/HSSC/A-Level equivalence certificate, and SAT II document (if applying on this basis).

If you have the right merit score and have all the documents, then you can apply to as many colleges as you want; there is no limit. The minimum requirement is at least one MBBS or BDS college. But choose wisely because it is not just about attaining a degree; it is your stepping stone in the medical field. And if the base is misplaced, the whole structure may tumble down.
