This Firm Gets In Trouble For Reusing COVID Nasal Swabs

COVID pandemic has created obstacles for almost all operations. To continue working, traveling, or basically anything in life, we need to get our covid tests done and hope for a negative result. But getting tested is so scary considering the options are nasal swabs and oral swabs only.

But isn’t it scarier to know that the nasal swab that the professionals use to test you was actually reused?

Well, it happened in Indonesia. This pharmaceutical company by the name of Kimia Farma in Indonesia has been blamed for reusing nasal swabs on people who come to get their COVID status tested. Imagine, someone’s nasal fluids in your nasal pathway.

After this allegation was made, several employees were arrested.

More than 9000 affected

But how many could have fallen prey to this atrocity? It is suspected that at least 9,000 passengers in the airport at Medan were tested with reused swabs.

The company might face a lawsuit for this crime because it did not happen accidentally. The swabs were systematically washed to be reused further. The scam has been in operation since December 2020. Some people had noticed that they were getting a false positive. To get to the depth of this, an undercover policeman was sent to investigate. He pretended to be a traveler and was swabbed for COVID through a nasal swab. He got a positive result.

The rest of the officers swooped in at that moment and found a recycled used test kit.

They now stand accused of breaking health and consumer laws.

Lawsuit around the corner

What is even more ruthless is that it is being suspected that one of the employees used the profits in the construction of a lavish house. Kimia has since then fired those employees who may have been involved in this scam and promised to be more careful in the future. Meanwhile, lawyers have started rolling in preparing for a lawsuit.

They are expecting to get 1bn Indonesian Rupiah for each affected passenger.

What is even more incredible is Ai Zafar reciting the naat at dawn, just before the sun sinks and the audience can see the shadows of the mosque behind. This video is truly an experience.

The video also ends with a poignant note in the loving memory of Ghulam Farid Sabri, Maqbool Ahmed Sabri, and Amjad Sabri. These legends performed this multilingual naat based on Kalaam by Hazrat Bedam Shah Warsi which now Zafar covers.

Earlier last year, Ali Zafar visited Makkah and Medina and brought that inspiration into his creations. He released a Hamd-o-Naat, stating, “What I experienced there cannot be described in words. A part of that I have tried to express in this Hamd-o-Naat.”

[Update]: Japan had announced that it will be bringing in young Pakistani talent. This news has further solidified with Japan specifying the priority fields. The field is Information Technology (IT). Considering the country is way ahead in technology, and their population is an aging population, it only makes sense that they would want to import young talent for their IT.

Of course, to be eligible you need degrees, skills, and the knowledge of Japanese language. If you fulfill this criterion, you may even find companies that readily fund travel and accommodation for professionals.

Japan is soon to offer job opportunities to Pakistani students as a government-to-government Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between the Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC) and Inter-SES. The partnership means exploring employment opportunities for Pakistani students by reaching out to IT companies in Japan.

The MoC is signed by OEC Managing Director Kashif Noor and Inter-SES Chief Executive Officer Zafar Mahmood at the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC) and Inter-SES.

The Ambassador of Japan Mentioned 

The Japanese Ambassador, Matsuda Kuninori, said, “We want to promote the Japanese language education here mostly to benefit the Pakistanis who want to go to Japan for employment. Therefore, I visited some universities and wanted to visit more, but the current coronavirus crisis impeded the plan. As soon as the things return to normal, we will ensure the speedy work on the proposed Japanese language courses”.

“Pakistan is no more a dangerous place to travel. So I see tourist and business arrivals from Japan go up in the next few years,” he added. Regarding travel guidelines for Pakistanis, he mentioned, “We will downgrade Pakistan in terms of security threat.”

The embassy will bring Japanese language teachers who can work together with Pakistani teachers to help students learn the language. Furthermore, he adds that the country is also going to collaborate on the academic front with Pakistani universities, which could ultimately help Pakistanis get employment in Japan.

Zulfikar Bukhari, the spokesperson to PM Imran Khan, mentioned. “Since Japan is an aging population and will be needing around 5, 00,000 of the workforce in future, it is our priority to fetch maximum quota for Pakistan out of this.” 

Japanese Ambassador Kuninori Matsuda added, as of today, above 30,000 Pakistanis were living and working in Japan. Pakistanis were among the most constructive and law-abiding members of society in Japan, he commented.

He mentioned, that they have high trust in the capabilities of Pakistani youth, particularly in the IT sector.

“Spread good words about Japan and Pakistan relations, particularly in human resource,” he remarked while addressing the media.

Burger King has started to test eco-friendly packaging to promote sustainability. The initial plan will be to run in 51 company-owned restaurants in Miami, where the company is based. The latest endeavor involves testing sustainable packaging. The products include the chain’s most-used guest items, forks, spoons, knives, straws, drink lids, Frypods, Whopper wrappers, and napkins.

Green Packaging Pilot Program By Burger King 

The program is launching under the “green packaging pilot program.” The company will be working with Coca-Cola and Kraft Heinz on this pilot program. Eco-friendly alternatives include cutlery made with a plant-based plastic called cPLA. Also, napkins will be made with 100% recycled fiber and Frypods with renewable unbleached virgin paperboard. The company is also going to test paper and plant-based straws along with strawless lids. This step could eliminate up to 500 million single-use plastic straws annually from participating US Burger King restaurants. This step would alone translate to the removal of 910 metric tons of greenhouse gasses per year.

The Press Release 

“This pilot allows us to gain knowledge and provide learnings for the industry. At the same time, as we get one step closer to our goal. The advancing packaging sustainability by improving materials and reducing overall packaging used, including single-use plastics,” the corporate stated in a press release.

“We will also be testing paper and plant-based straws along with strawless lids, which can potentially eliminate up to 500 million single-use plastic straws annually from participating U.S. Burger King restaurants. This action alone would translate to the removal of 910 metric tons of greenhouse gasses per year. The equivalent of 196 vehicles driven for one year,” Burger King says in a written statement.

“Sustainable packaging is a cornerstone of our Restaurant Brands for Good journey, and this new pilot represents a huge opportunity for us to make a difference,” said Matthew Banton, head of innovation and sustainability at Burger King, in a press release.

“We’re optimistic about our progress. In addition, we are going to commit to reducing waste to do our part in creating a more sustainable future.”

The program is yet to launch but will soon reach New York, Portland, Tokyo, Paris, and London.

A Website Uses Coca-Cola’s Name For A Fake Job Ad & It’s Hilarious

Using social media to find jobs has become the new normal in the increasingly digitized world. Not to mention, a lot of people have lost their jobs to the pandemic, which makes them more inclined to finding jobs on almost any forum they can find. This is exactly how people tumbled across this fake job ad. Some people may have fallen to this scam, but others caught it, and they are finding it hilarious.

Using the name of Coca-Cola, this phishing scam makes their fake job ad as believable as one can. At a glance, anyone would fall for it.

Why? Because of the name of the page they posted it with, it used the exact spelling without any typos. Moreover, the color scheme they use in the design follows the font consistent with the brand. Does it not look like it?

But when it comes to looking for jobs, we should be extremely careful. While this fake job ad does look convincing, we have to give it more than one glance.

After that glance, when we move on to reading the text, we begin seeing issues.

In the second line, we find the phrase, “most famous second-grade companies.” Would Coca-Cola or any good brand ever call itself second grade? No.

In the third sentence, we can also see the brand name misspelled. It reads, Cocca Colla. A brand would NEVER misspell their name; employees would get fired for it.

Throughout the copy, you can also pick up grammar mistakes.

But the best of all is the website address which is not a legit one, rather a Blogspot address.

The Saudi government has taken a measure by deploying almost 1500 women in Holy Ka’aba. In addition, the General Presidency for the Affairs of the two holy mosques has hired female workers at the Holy Ka’aba to perform several duties. As a result, the government of Saudi Arabia is trying to achieve cohesive equality between the men and women of society in various fields by enhancing their rights, support systems, and care programs.

Duties Of Female Workers 

The female workers’ duties include serving those women who come to visit Holy Ka’aba for prayers. A different number of women are deployed for different tasks. About 600 women are appointed in the Technical and Service Affairs Agency. The other departments include

  • Guidance and intellectual affairs
  • Administrative affairs
  • Public relations
  • media and communication
  • the General Department of Internal Auditing

Assistant Undersecretary for Administrative and Service Affairs for Women, Dr. Camellia bint Muhammad Al-Daadi, states that the Agency provides Zamzam water for pilgrims to the Grand Mosque, the prayer areas for women.

Women Empowerment 

Saudi Arabia has begun to empower women and maintain gender equality by taking multiple measures, including allowing women to drive. Moreover, the country has also placed smartly uniformed female security officers guiding Umrah pilgrims in Makkah during Ramadan.

Dozens of female officers are currently deployed in Makkah and Madinah to provide proper security at Holy Ka’aba and Masjid-e-Nabawi. Around 113-strong all-female batch of military-trained officers were allotted to the Prophet’s Mosque about six months ago.

PCB Announces Parental Leaves To Support Its Cricketers

[Update]: Some time ago, we had heard that PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) would be announcing maternity leaves and we had hoped that they would also consider paternity leaves as well. As it turns out, they did. PCB took it to Twitter yesterday saying that they are ready to announce their parental leave policy.

According to these policies, female cricketers can transfer to a non-playing role until the commencement of their maternity leave. They will be entitled to 12 months of paid leave and get a contract extension for the following year. Not only that, but they will also get medical and physical support for post-childbirth rehabilitation. Men will also get 30 days of paternity leave. Of course, if it was at least three months long where they could help their spouse in post-childbirth that would have made more difference. But even this much effort is great.

PCB To Offer Maternity Leaves For Female Cricketers

Children are a reality and while this reality is endorsed in our society, it is not made so that the parents can welcome their child in the best way possible. Let alone paternity leave, in many workplaces, even maternity leaves are not allowed. And so women have to resign from their jobs. But PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) it seems is turning over a new leaf.

It is being rumored that the maternity leave clause will soon be added to the contracts of female cricketers in Pakistan. Up until now, PCB did not have anything remotely related to the phenomenon of maternity leave, nor would they provide any facilities during this time to the female cricketers. So the cricketers would be forced to bid farewell to their profession.

But now, PCB has become open to the idea of maternity leave. Not only are they thinking of adding indefinite maternity leave, but also medical benefits as well as full pay.

This development comes right after the Pakistani captain of the female crickets announced on social media that she is expecting. Bismah Maroof also said that she is taking an indefinite break from cricket.

It is high time that this clause was added because women were, for the longest time, forced to leave their passion because they had to choose between family or profession. And when they would be expecting, the medical condition wouldn’t allow them to play hence, they had to leave the team forever.

Facebook And YouTube Sued For Aiding Trademark Infringements

With the proliferation of digital hosting platforms, new ways have emerged for advertisers to interact with consumers, clients, investors, etc. Many companies are now focusing more on digital hosting platforms and online marketplace advertising strategies, as opposed to traditional marketing methods such as print publications, radio, and television broadcasts.

In this wake, digital hosting platforms have become powerful players as they provide a digital infrastructure for a variety of services, including e-commerce, internet search engines, social networks, and application stores.

Recently, the court of Amsterdam has ruled that Facebook is obligated to take appropriate actions against counterfeit products displayed in advertisements on Facebook and Instagram.

This judgement followed a lawsuit by PVH Europe in relation to counterfeit products being offered via Facebook and Instagram. PVH Europe manages famous brands like Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein and has constantly faced the repercussions of counterfeit products.

Facebook and YouTube are two of the most used platforms for paid advertisements. Facebook does have advertising regulations that oversee and approve different advertisements. Regardless of these policies, there are various accounts of counterfeit products and infringement of IPRs on both Facebook and Instagram.

PVH claimed that Facebook should be held liable for not preventing this infringement and allowing users to use PVH’S trademark rights. As a result of this lawsuit, the court ruled that Facebook must take necessary actions to prevent future infringements and is held liable under tort law.

Along with PVH Europe, Louis Vuitton Malletier has also faced intellectual property infringement. In 2006, it was discovered that several websites were selling knock-off goods and using Louis Vuitton’s copyrighted images, designs, and trademarks without permission. It was also discovered that the websites were using IP addresses assigned to Managed Solutions Group, Inc. (“MSG”) and Akanoc Solutions, Inc. (“Akanoc”), both of which are in the “web hosting” business.

Louis Vuitton has aggressive policies against unauthorized use of its intellectual property and thus sent 18 infringement notices to MSG and Akanoc demanding to take down the websites infringing on Louis Vuitton’s intellectual property. When MSG and Akanoc failed to respond, a lawsuit was filed. The verdict was in favor of Louis Vuitton and held Akanoc, MSG and Chen liable for the infringement of thirteen trademarks and two copyrights. The company was awarded $ 10,500,00 in statutory damages for willful contributory trademark infringement and $ 300,000 for willful contributory copyright infringement against each defendant.

A similar claim was brought forward by one of the leading multi-national Descon Engineering Limited (DESCON) when another private company infringed upon DESCON’s IPRs by using its well-known trademark/service mark. DESCON’s Counsel, JUSnREM filed a Suit for infringement of trademark, unfair competition and damages of PKR 5 Billion against the principal infringer DCC Developers, USD $ 50 Million against Facebook and USD $5 Million against YouTube for contributory/secondary infringement.

DESCON was compelled to file a lawsuit for contributory infringement against Facebook and YouTube for allowing the unauthorized use of its trademark, thereupon, the Intellectual Property Tribunal at Lahore has granted an injunction restraining Facebook and Youtube to facilitate, contribute or provide the principal infringer through their digital hosting platforms.

Reportedly, this is the First order of its kind in the world, imposing Injunctions against Facebook and YouTube. No Court in any other jurisdiction in the world has passed such an injunctive order restraining anyone to stop providing their digital platforms for advertising and marketing.

DESCON has been carrying out its business operations in Pakistan and elsewhere since 1977, for various national and international organizations including various public sector entities with an international repute of 43 years. It has never compromised on its professional integrity, transparency, quality, and standards. When approached by DESCON, Facebook refused to take action against this violation. Hence, DESCON was forced to file a lawsuit.

With the increased influence of social media, platforms like Facebook and Youtube, such platforms must be cognizant of the adverts being placed and should ensure that no party’s intellectual property rights (IPRs) are infringed. Companies build their brand equity through years of hard work and dedication.

It is unfair and unjust for these corporations to have to share their equity with other small companies that are trying to capitalize on pre-existing brands. Social media influence has greatly increased over the past few years and the onus lies on these social media platforms to prevent the infringement of IPRs. Their failure to protect companies against intellectual property infringement is highly detrimental and can result in more lawsuits in the future.

Melinda became part of Microsft in the 1980s. But after they got married, Melinda became a stay-at-home mother for three children. Later on, Melinda started jointly running Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Through that foundation, they have donated billions for good causes.

Iqra Aziz’s ‘Godh Bharayi’ Dupatta Had 100 Duas Written On It

While we had already speculated a month ago that actor-writer Yasir Hussain and actress Iqra Aziz may be expecting, the duo has finally revealed it to the public. They are expecting and will be welcoming the new member of their family in July. The announcement was made through the pictures of the ‘Godh Bharai ceremony’.

But as our Pakistani audience goes, the response was mixed. While some appreciated them and wished them all the best of luck, as expected, there were some who had to problematize even this for the celebrity couple.

For the ceremony, Iqra wore a beautiful purple dress by Fahad Hussayn. With simple henna on her hands and exquisite jewelry, the couple looked happy to the core.

Fahad also shared the close-up pictures of the dupatta that went with Iqra’s dress. It was with these pictures that it became clear there was some text written on the dupatta. These snippets were some good lessons that everyone should incorporate into their lives.

Not only that but Iqra was wearing the dupatta, not on her head which meant that the dupatta could be touching the ground as well. This meant disrespect to God’s name.

Some others were crying because apparently, Iqra copied the idea they had ‘thought’ of first.

Godh Bharayi – a hindu rasm?

Not just that, Pakistanis also said that the idea of godh bharayi rasm has Hindu origins so using Allah’s name on a dupatta for that rasm is a disrespect to Allah and Islam. Moreover, they couldn’t stop themselves from stating their confusion at why would Muslims want to celebrate a Hindu ceremony.
