These neglected topics need to be spoken about for the betterment of our children.

1. Hygiene

The essential topic of discussion between parents and children is unfortunately also one of the most neglected ones. Conversations on hygiene get lost in the sensitivities of privacy and respect as parents feel it is inappropriate to speak about such matters with their children. Naturally, children reciprocate the same attitude and suffer as a result.

2. Failures

Pakistani meme culture thrives on the narrative of pressurizing parents. Children are burdened under the growing weight of their parents’ expectation of only the best. However, what many parents neglect are conversations surrounding failure. 

Every path to success is not without its bumps. Speaking to children about failing often will ease them and make them learn to appreciate the process of developing more.

3. Expressing Emotions

“Boys don’t cry” is a phrase we’re sure everyone has heard or even said. However, this is a neglected topic which only creates more problems. Crying or expressing grief is not a sign of weakness, rather a sign of strength because it shows that a person is being true to themself.

4. Sex Education

In Pakistan, there is a passionate resistance to any and every talk about sex education. Contrary to popular belief, sex education only makes our children safer. This is because they receive knowledge of and about their body. Only when they are properly informed can they treat it/seel help for it safely.

5. Abuse

Many incidents of sexual abuse are unreported because, for a long time, the victims are not aware that what they are experiencing is abuse. Children are not told from a young age that no one must touch their private parts. They are not intimated about physical cues that can be dangerous.

6. The Importance of Expressing Opinions

It is rare in a desi household for parents to consider the opinions of their children in any matter. After all, when the elders are speaking, what can the young ones contribute? The truth is that in cases like this, it is not a matter of wisdom. Rather, it is about what is being instilled in the minds of the young.

Asking them for their opinion or encouraging them to share it does not mean you have to implement it. However, it will convey that their words have a value that will make them more confident.

Victim Blaming: The Practice Of (Almost) Every Pakistani

While a number of Pakistanis do react against movements like Aurat March, crimes against women continue to happen. Let’s look at that infamous placard, the khana khud garam karo. People bashed it but they did not realize that the placard had a story behind it; the story here was that a man killed his wife because she did not heat the food on time. But when such incidents happen, numerous Pakistanis indulge in victim blaming.

The toxic culture is not just supported by men but also women who have internalized this toxicity. They call the victims out saying why were they not speaking up against their perpetrator. They do not realize that it is next to impossible because the victims become psychologically dependant on their perpetrators, not to mention the izzat factor they have been taught since birth.

In the high-profile case of Noor Mukadam where the killer not only raped, but also tortured, killed, and then beheaded her, people had the audacity to ask why was she there in the first place.

Do you remember the journalist Imran Riaz who even blamed her for not following the Islamic teachings? He mentioned that where Islamic teachings are not followed such actions do happen. He made the comments with respect to Noor’s actions, and not Zahir’s or Zahir’s upbringing.

Lahore Motorway incident

Another incident that attracted many eyeballs was the Lahore Motorway incident. Here, a woman was raped in front of her children when she was traveling in the night. The then-CCPO Lahore had the audacity to blame the woman for being out on the road late at night and not the criminal who could not control his lust.

Minar-e-Pakistan victim

The Minar-e-Pakistan victim, Ayesha Akram was groped and assaulted with her clothes torn off by more than 400 men. Her case was not registered by the police station. And when her news became viral, people delved into her TikTok videos from the past. Using those as evidence, they started victim blaming by saying that she must have invited the mob to attack her.

Sadly, it is not just the women who are raped, killed, and victim blamed, it is also 6-year-old girls and even, goats.

The point to note is that such incidents have not started happening in the past two to three years. They were always happening. It is just that with the power of social media, people are quickly able to make videos and make them go viral. Once people start talking about it, authorities are forced to take action.

There are some perfect food pairings like aam paratha and chai biscuit that Pakistanis love eating. However, given how obsessed with food we are, it is not logically possible for us to not have any strange food combinations we stand up for.

1. Nihari Chawal

Separately, these two foods are probably the best ones ever. But combining the two dishes can give goosebumps to most people. It is not like one of them is sweet while the other is salty and sour. But rice is supposed to be eaten as it is; or, at most, with raita. Meanwhile, it is an unsaid law that nihari has to be eaten with naan. Messing these two things can lead to chaos for sure.

Even if you are not eating it with the main course, you can eat it with ketchup. But imagine my disgust when an acquaintance of mine asked for apple jam with kabab. Safe to say, I never talked to them after that.

SBP Hosts Event On “Digital Banks – A New Era In Pakistan

SBP issued “Licensing and Regulatory Framework for Digital Banks” on January 03, 2022. To create awareness of this this important development in regulatory ambit, SBP organized an online event – “Digital Banks – A New Era in Banking”. The objective of the webinar was primarily to create awareness about the next generation of banks i.e. digital banks and the potential they offer for financial inclusion in the country. It was also aimed at sharing the details of digital banking framework amongst the market participants and prospective investors and to address their queries. 

Dr. Reza Baqir, Governor State Bank of Pakistan in his keynote address highlighted the potential of digital financial services to become ubiquitous in the banking industry and its significance in terms of inclusion and innovation. Discussing the prospects of digital banks in Pakistan, he emphasized that  one of the key goals of the State Bank of Pakistan was to promote inclusion, innovation, and modernization of financial sector of Pakistan. He emphasized SBP’s expectations from digital banks in promoting financial inclusion by providing affordable financial services to unserved and underserved segments of society, alongside fostering a new set of customer experience. 

Dr. Baqir highlighted how digitization of financial services is picking up pace and is transforming the way banking is done for both individuals and businesses. He mentioned that Pakistan’s journey for digital financial services started in early 2000s, and since then, a number of enabling regulatory initiatives were launched, notably, Branchless Banking Regulatory Framework, Electronic Money Institutions Regulations, Roshan Digital Account, RAAST, Customers’ Digital Onboarding Framework, and Asaan Mobile Accounts etc. He added that Licensing and Regulatory Framework for Digital Banks is another milestone towards digital transformation and a major step towards revolutionizing our banking services industry.  

The event was attended by prominent members of the banking community, fintechs, business fraternity and Government agencies. While giving his welcome address, Mr. Arshad Mehmood Bhatti, Executive Director, Banking Policy and Regulation Group, informed the audience that SBP will grant up to five (05) licenses for digital banks, as SBP intends to bring digital banks with strong value proposition, robust technological infrastructure, sufficient financial strength, technical expertise and effective risk management culture. He assured the market participants and potential investors that his team will remain available to provide necessary guidance in this regard.

The event also included a panel discussion moderated by Mr. Nadeem Hussain, founder Planet-N along with Mr. Muhammad Aurangzeb, Chairman Pakistan Banks’ Association, Ms. Tania Aidrus, former Executive of Google and Special Assistant to PM, Mr. Qasif Shahid, CEO & Co-Founder of M/s Finja and Mr. Muhammad Akhtar Javed, Director Banking Policy & Regulations Department of SBP as panelists.

The panelist had different rounds of questions which not only covered the real potential of digital banks  in terms of addressing the financial needs of a common man but it also brought further clarity on various aspects of this important regulatory initiative. The panel also touched upon the possible benefits and compelling reasons for existing banks and MFBs to apply for digital banks’ license and highlighted the relevant challenges faced by various digital banks across the globe. The panelists were of the view that digital banks would offer a faster, cheaper and more efficient solution for meeting the financial requirements of unserved and underserved segments of the society, in particular and welcomed SBP’s landmark initiative. The panel was confident that digital banks will become an essential part of the financial ecosystem, enhancing market efficiencies, providing access to a wider range of financial services, and thereby, advancing the broader agenda of financial inclusion.

TikTok Becomes Official Entertainment Partner For HBL PSL 7 And 8

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced its partnership with TikTok, the leading destination for short form videos, for two seasons of the HBL Pakistan Super League. TikTok will be the official Entertainment Partner for the seventh and eighth editions of one of the world’s most sought after and popular T20 leagues.

Coca-Cola is kicking off 2022 with not only a new flavour in their product lineup but also a whole new look when it comes to their flavours line!

In January of 2021, Coca-Cola launched their newest innovation – a line of cola infused with coffee. And based on the line’s popularity, it should come as no surprise that in January 2022, they are introducing a brand new flavour. The previous flavours include dark blend, vanilla and caramel.

This year, Coca-Cola will be rolling out a new look across the Coca-Cola flavours platform with a new modern design. The new-look features “vibrant, colourful cans that “quickly communicate flavours and a bold, dominant script to hero Coca-Cola’s branding.”

Updates to the flavoured Coke packages are designed to “modernize and simplify the look and help consumers find the flavour they’re looking for on the shelf,” said Natalia Suarez, senior brand manager of Coke Choice Portfolio, the company’s North America operating unit.

The updated cans are supposed to “quickly communicate flavours and clearly distinguish between full-sugar and zero-sugar/calorie-free options,” she added.

According to Chew Boom, under the revamped design, solid-coloured cans will designate single flavours like Cherry and Vanilla. Nadia Khan’s Latest Statement 

In a recent interview, Nadia set the record straight by claiming that she has now removed the video from social media.

“Sharmila can go to the cybercrime authorities if she wants to but it’s redundant to drag this issue on after the video has been deleted.”

Adding further, she said, “Things could escalate if I would have said anything further on the issue.”

Addressing Sharmila Faruqui’s attitude, Nadia said, “There is nothing wrong with that. I haven’t asked any wrong questions nor have I done anything wrong, don’t talk to me in that tone at all.”

Sharmila Faruqui’s had allegedly talked to the host on messages herself. In an interview, she reflected on Nadia Khan’s attitude.

“I inboxed [Nadia] and said it is very shameless of you to do this.”

To which she replied, “There is nothing wrong in this. I have not asked anything wrong and I have not done anything wrong. Stop using harsh words with me.”

Sharmila Faruqui then gave her two cents on the entire situation. She added,

“She is shameless and heartless and it’s very very unfortunate,” adding, “I have a lot of respect for people in showbiz, they work hard.”

“My mother is a very simple woman.” Adding that she lost her father and her mother lost her husband three months ago.

“She is trying to survive without her husband,” she said. “You don’t have anything else to do so you want to get publicity and ratings by making such videos,” said Sharmila.
