How To Backup & Restore WhatsApp Chats Via Google Drive

One of the fears WhatsApp users face while changing their smartphone is losing their chat data that’s both memorable and important at the same time.

Fortunately, you can say goodbye to this fear forever as WhatsApp is now offering the latest feature to Android users to back up their chat data on Google Drive.

Other than text, you also have the option to save all the multimedia including GIFs – the current obsession – images, and videos shared on the platform.

So if you want to make use of this new feature, it’s important that your device is connected to a solid Wi-Fi to ensure smooth and quick restore processes.

Backing up WhatsApp Chats on Google Drive

The feature of backing up your WhatsApp data comes with three options:

  • Back up to Google Drive when you tap Back Up
  • Back up only over Wi-Fi
  • Include videos

To start the process, launch WhatsApp, and tap on the three dots on the top right and tap on Settings > Chats > Chat Backup. You will see all of the above-mentioned settings. Adjust accordingly and tap on backup to save your chats and multimedia (if you want).

If you don’t want to backup and just export your chats to a safer place, you have an option for that too. Tap on Chats > Chat History > Email Chats > and select the chat window you wish to backup. This does not backup everything but only the chats you want to save.

Beware: Indian Applications are Invading Your Privacy!

Your WhatsApp chats are now backed up and you have already setup it up again on your new handset. Now how do you restore?

Follow this:

Open WhatsApp > Set up your profile and get your number verified, and tap Next.

Since you have already linked a Google account with your new device, you will be promoted to restore the messages you have backed up. Just tap Restore and you are done.

Creating and Restoring Local Backups for Chats

Other than a Google Drive backup, Whatsapp also allows you to make a local backup of your messages to keep them safe. Of course, you will lose them if you switch your phone.

It’s mentioned on WhatsApp’s website:

“The easiest way to transfer data to a new phone is by using Google Drive. If you want to use a local backup, you will need to transfer the files to the new phone using a computer, file explorer or an SD Card. If your data is not stored in the SDcard/WhatsApp/folder, you may see ‘internal storage’ or ‘main storage’ folders”.

Mind you, the local storage can only back up seven days of data. To do so, restore a local backup, download File Manager app from Google Play store.

WhatsApp Receives Legal Notice!

Once the app is downloaded, launch File Manager > choose SD card > WhatsApp > Databases. You can pick either the main storage or internal storage in case you don’t have an SD card.

There’s further detail available on this on WhatsApp’s website:

“Rename the backup file you wish to restore from msgstore-YYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12 to msgstore.db.crypt12. It is possible that an earlier backup may be on an earlier protocol, such as crypt9 or crypt10. Do not change the number of the crypt extension.”

Your data is totally safe and secure no matter how many times you change your device!

Not only did international brands started to make their way within the country, now around 500 Chinese manufacturers have also expressed their desire to join the bandwagon.

While keeping the successful year in mind within Pakistan, a list was compiled of the most sold cars around the world including SUVs, sedans, trucks and more.

10. Nissan Rogue

Nissan successfully sold 289,427 units worldwide. The crossover is roomy, decent in design, has comfy seats, but has a vague steering. None the less, it successfully gives 170-hp, has 4-cylinders and has an intelligent cruise control and automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection. 

9. Honda Accord

The Accord has 311,352 new owners this year! All of the variants, excluding the Hybrid have remained favorites and were 10 Best Car winners. It is equipped with a 185-hp 2.4-liter four and a six-speed manual transmission are standard in the coupe and sedan; the sports models make 189-hp.

8. Toyota RAV4

The RAV4 gave Toyota a business of 314,925 units across the world. The SUV has .5-liter four-cylinder and a six-speed automatic transmission are standard with either front- or all-wheel drive. It gives off 176-hp and is an all-in-one entertainment package for families.

7. Honda CR-V

The base engine is a 184-hp 2.4-liter four, while a 190-hp 1.5-liter turbo four is optional. A CVT (one of the best available) and front-wheel drive are standard; all-wheel drive is optional.

Successfully selling 335,445 units, Honda Civic has made it to the most sold cars list of 2017! The Civic is not just attractive in looks but is also giving lavish features for a good price.

Pakistani Schools to Open in Gulf Countries for Expats

A huge number of Pakistanis are working abroad across the world, however, the majority are found living and working in Gulf countries. The major problem that comes in the way of expat Pakistanis is the education of their children.

Schools in the middle east and other Gulf countries are expensive and not everyone is able to afford them. People are then faced with the difficult task of sending their children back to Pakistan for studies.

To tackle this ongoing issue, the Head of the Governors of Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) has announced that schools will be set up in the Gulf region for the Pakistani community living abroad.

Barrister Amjad Malik—the Head of the Governors of Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) has mentioned that the advisory council has been working for the interests of the Pakistani community abroad and other issues would be sorted on a priority basis.

The Following Developments are to be expected for Overseas Pakistanis

  1. Welfare projects have been under consideration for the Pakistani community abroad that will decrease the rate of unemployment in expatriates.
  2. Overseas banks would be set up at embassy level
  3. Representation in the parliament of the country they are living in
  4. Housing Schemes to be introduced to give housing families of the deceased overseas Pakistanis.

Is Bitcoin Losing its Hold Over the Crypto-Currency Market?

Bitcoin, a controversial ‘crypto’ currency which has put the world in a state of confusion and disbelief.

When the currency started the year, it was worth below $1,000 and with a sudden boom, it started to reach unbelievable milestones!

In no time, the currency reached a value more than 1,500% it started with. However, a sudden decline in its worth raises a serious question, is Bitcoin a doomed currency? Better yet, is Bitcoin losing its dominance over the market?

According to CoinMarketCap.com, the currency was holding 90% of the market when it was growing rapidly. However, following March onwards, the currency somehow became volatile. Calculating its hold on the market in December, it now only dominates 42%.

Over 500 Auto Companies Wish to Invest in Pakistan!

With the re-launch of Hyundai in Pakistan and Renault ready to establish its plant by 2018, around 500 more auto companies have shown their interest in investing in the sector.

These Chinese companies say they have seen massive potential and growth of the industry in Pakistan, which has caught their attention.

This news came to the table when a delegation of Chinese auto manufacturers visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) and had expressed their desires of setting up plants.

During this meeting, the delegation urged that the standards of the auto industry will meet European markets. This was because of two main reasons;

  •  Potential for foreign automakers in the country, including manufacturers of heavy-duty vehicles
  • CPEC and its upgraded transportation routes will mean increase in demand

According to PakWheels, the president also urged Chinese delegation to manufacture under 1000cc cars to cater the needs of the middle-class population of the country. ICCI officials asserted that they would help Chinese companies to find potential partners.

Beware: Indian Applications are Invading Your Privacy!

In today’s modern era where user privacy is extremely important, there have been several speedbumps we have seen from not only manufacturers but also developers.

Previously, Chinese manufacturers such as ‘Infinix’ were said to be secretly leaking user data without permission through hidden applications.

Now, looks like Indian developers have followed their trail. Arrka, a data privacy consultancy, examined 100 applications. Communication apps dominated the list, seeking 14.5 dangerous permissions on average.

According to the report, 

“Although the type of top dangerous permissions accessed remains the same across India and the US, the percentage of apps accessing these permissions varies greatly”

Some of these dangerous permissions include:

  • Access and Modifying the calendar
  • SMS
  • Call logs
  • Storage
  • Using microphone to record audio
  • Sharing location information
  • Collecting details about emails and social media accounts.

The Arrka report concluded,

“This clearly indicates the degree to which excessive permissions are taken by Indian apps.”

The dangerous permissions that these apps seek are a major threat to user security and privacy. Next time you download an app make sure to pay attention to the permissions you allow the app on your phone.

Supreme Court Bans Admissions in Private Medical Colleges

Seems like the future of students pursuing medicine in Pakistan will witness a ground-breaking development. The Supreme Court of Pakistan has barred admissions in all private medical colleges countrywide.

The court declared this order during the hearing of a case against alarming rise in fee of private medical colleges.

The two-member branch, headed by the chief justice of Pakistan, Justice Mian Saqib Nasir  made this decsision after hearing the outraged public response and the petitions against the fee hike in private medical colleges and hospitals.

He expressing his disapproval over fee hikes, consequently ordering all private medical colleges to submit their fee structure and the bank accounts of all medical college owners.

What is more, the chief justice raised objection regardng the location of these private colleges, which are based in garages and rooftops of buildings.

Taking about his recent visit to Mayo Hospital, he said that he will visit the places where health care issues exist.

Unfortunately for one bridegroom, the news of him fainting just made him a star in the headlines!

Belonging to Gujranwala, Shamoon Aqil was on his way to take his bride home when all of a sudden he fainted. Instead of going to his wedding he was carried away to the hospital where even doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong.

Being unconscious for some time now, everyone was worried about what was going on, then the entire room heard a loud smacking noise echoing. No, it was not a bed that broke, and no it was not a tray of medicines that dropped.

The bridegroom’s friend slapped him which did the charm. As soon as he got smacked, his eyes popped open and he shot up sitting in disbelieve in regards to what just happened. Looks like the groom’s friend really came in handy for making his day one to remember

1. Unlock your Phone with your Face

iPhone X is known for being a favorite amongst tech-savvy enthusiasts because one specific feature, facial recognition! It is one of the features which makes the iPhone X attractive. The Face ID on the X is easy to setup and reliable.

2. Take Unlimited Screenshots

You can still take screenshots! Yes folks, it is still very possible. In order to do so, the user simply has to press the sleep/wake and volume up buttons at the same time.

3. Force-Close Apps

Another plus for the iPhone X is the gesture-friendly navigation. At times, some applications cause trouble, irritating the user. With the X, the user can use simple gestures to force close these apps. The process is similar to previous iOS devices, with a minor change.

To force close an app on the iPhone X, swipe up from the bottom and leave your finger on the screen about halfway up to activate multitasking mode. Then, long press on any of the app previews until a red circle shows up in the top-left corner.

4. Show Hidden Notification Previews

It is a default feature in the iPhone X, notifications appear as ‘sensitive content’ on the lock screen.

Changing the preview setting back to showing anything and everything on the lock screen takes just a couple of taps. Simply select Settings > Notifications > Show Previews > Always.

5. Battery Percentage

We constantly look at our phones at times to check the time and times to see how much battery is still remaining. Well, you cant turn it on anymore but you can view the percentage using a small trick.

Simply swipe down from the top-right corner of the iPhone X’s display to open Control Center, and bam, the battery percentage is included.

6. Animoji

Animoji is a new concept Apple brought forward with iPhone X. For those who are unfamiliar, these are animated animals that you can control. Like Snapchat, the X scans the user’s face and allows them to speak as an animal of choice.

To get started, open the Messages app and select the iMessage app icon. Next to the App Store icon will be the Animoji app icon. Select it. Hold your phone in front of your face, using facial recognition points, your expressions will be previewed on the phone.

You can switch them whenever you like.

7. Fancy Selfies!

With the True Depth front-facing camera and dual-rear facing cameras on the iPhone X, you can take some pretty cool pictures. It’ll take a bit of planning and practice, though.

Last, year In November, Sanam Jung gave birth to a beautiful baby girl.

While her family, friends, and fans were excited to hear the news, there were others who couldn’t resist to body-shame her for her post-pregnancy weight.

Sanam came back to hosting her morning show at Hum TV after taking a little break.
