The holy month of Ramadan is nearing its end. However, television channels and their battle of ratings is aggressive than ever before.

This year, the channel’s bar is all the more high with its Sehri, Iftar and Post Iftar ratings

Research reveals that ARY Digital ruled the average ratings in the first week of Ramadan and the result of the second week show no difference.

With an average rating of 0.4, TV One and Urdu1 bag the third spot in the rating chart.

Post-Iftar Ratings

Boasting phenomenal average ratings of 3.8 in the post-Iftar round, ARY Digital has taken the throne of the being the ultimate rating champ.

Hum TV is not far behind with an average rating of 2.9, the credit of its growth in viewership mostly going to its hit Ramadans serial, Suno Chanda.

GEO Entertainment ranks third in the post-Iftar session, after being the runner-up in the Sehri and Iftar rounds.

Eid-ul-Fitr 2018 in Pakistan: Long Weekend Ahead!

Ramadan 2018 is about to end and Muslims in Pakistan are gearing up to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr 2018 with full zeal.

According to Abdul Rashid, director at the Climate Data Processing Centre of the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Shawwal’s moon has slim chances to be spotted on June 14.

There is a high possibility that Ramadan 2018 will comprise of 30 days and Eid will be celebrated on June 16, all across Pakistan.

Ramadan Calendar 2018 Pakistan: Sehr o Iftar Timetable

It is likely that the 29th and 30th fast will fall on 14th and 15th June 2018.

Hence, Eid-ul-Fitr 2018 in Pakistan is predicted to fall on 16th June, Saturday 2018.

If the calculation is false, then Eidul Fitr might be celebrated on Friday, June 15.

However, Eid holidays will tentatively kickstart from 14th June, giving us a long weekend of at least five days i.e: from Thursday to Monday.

How cool is that?

Meanwhile, in a move to give relief to students from the rising mercury levels, the Government of Punjab had announced early summer vacations in the province from May 17.

Educational institutes will reopen on August 10, Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashhood said.

However, in Sindh, school summer vacations 2018 for Sindh will be held between 14 May and 15 July.

Marriage Halls in Karachi to Pay 15% Sales Tax on Services

It is now compulsory on most marriage halls in Karachi to pay a sales tax of 15% after the Sindh High Court dismissed the case due to the absence of petitioner at the case hearings.

Karachi Marriage Halls/Lawn Owners Association – the petitioner – with its continued absence at the hearings on various dates, failed to take the case forward which led to the tax being levied.

PTA Bans Over 6,100 Websites Over Controversial Content

Although in Sindh the sales tax on the services provided by marriage lawns and halls had been imposed since the 1 July 2011; the ad-interim orders due to the petition meant that the tax had not been collected.

However, not all marriage halls and lawns are to be liable to pay tax. An officer of the Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) said:

Standalone marriage halls, lawns, and marquees located on plots of up to 800 square yards are exempted from sales tax provided that these are not air conditioned, are not located in hotels or clubs, are not owned, operated or managed by caterers and have no branch or any other marriage halls or lawns in Sindh.

Marriage lawns and halls are subjected to a 15% levy on services provided by them, according to the Finance Act 2011.

The officer added:

Now with the dismissal of the petition, the SRB will be able to impose and collect sales tax on the services of marriage halls and lawns, including those located in hotels or clubs.

Sonam Kapoor Hits Back at Backlash from Pakistani Media!

sonam kapoor

After several strong statements against Pakistan, Swara Bhaskar has been facing a ton of backlash on social media.

The “Veere Di Wedding” actress has been questioned by several prominent Pakistani celebrities for her double standards.

And now, all that “hate” seems to have troubled her best friend and co-star, Sonam Kapoor who has finally spoken up in support of the starlet.

Just ❤️ @sonamkapoor #sonamkishaadi

A post shared by Swara Bhasker (@reallyswara) on

Apparently, Sonam felt the need to rescue her bestie during a screening in New Delhi for their film, ‘Veere Di Wedding’ that was released over the weekend.

According to Sonam, the reason behind her best friend and co-star getting trolled on social media is a sign of just “how much they love Swara”

Speaking to the media, she stated:

I think people just like to troll her because she has an opinion and a point of view and I guess that shows how much they love her because the other side of hate is always love, so Swara you have a lot of lovers!

However, it seems that the “Raanjhana” actress’s statement has been misquoted!

Apparently, the newlywed had been talking about Swara’s controversial scene in ‘Veere Di Wedding’ and NOT her anti-Pakistan statements.

Clarifying her stance on her Twitter, Sonam shared a screenshot from a Pakistani publication and cleared up the misunderstanding.

My defence of her has nothing to do with her comments on Pakistan! Get your fact right and stop trying to spread mischief and hate!

The two actresses, apart from being the best of friends have worked together in several films, including ‘Raanjhanaa’ and ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’.

During one of her promotional interviews for the movie ‘Veere Di Wedding’, Swara was heard making several controversial comments about Pakistan calling it a “failing state governed by Shariah Law’.

Apparently, the lady was so irked by the ban placed on her film in Pakistan, that she failed to realize just how controversial her comments were nor the feelings for her fans in the country.

This is what she had to say:

They’re (Pakistan) a non-secular state. I’m not surprised at all. Why should we hold up Pakistan, which is a failing state – I don’t understand why we keep taking pleasure and feeling a sense of self-worth from all the silly things that happen in Pakistan.

With such a bold statement, it was only a matter of time before someone felt the need to shut down the actress and call her out for her hypocrisy and ignorance and Urwa Hocane stepped up to do the honors!

Following her lead, others were seen slamming Swara, including Gohar Rasheed.

Mehwish Hayat too had a few words to say on the matter:

What did you think about Sonam’s statement? Let us know in the comments below.

#DekhoMeriNazarSe: Samsung is Uniting Pakistan With its Million Meal Challenge

Imagine a world where there is no division by color, gender or race. Take a minute to draw a picture of the limitless number of people loving, laughing and smiling, regardless of their financial status, religion, and gender.

As beautiful and utopic as this may seem, the harsh truth is that ‘equality’ is still a dream in Pakistan. In order to eliminate differences and redefine the movement, Samsung has taken the initiative to show Pakistanis that irrespective of our differences, we are all one.

The ideology has been portrayed beautifully in the brand’s “Dekho Meri Nazar Se” campaign. A camera lens is a perfect example of how everyone should be viewed, without bias. Just as the lens does not discriminate on the basis of religion, caste, status, and creed, it sees the real beauty which lies inside their hearts and shines through their smiles.

The brand has become a torchbearer of unity and is promoting equality while tugging heartstrings. That’s not all, the tech giant has also partnered with Rizq to take their campaign up a notch.

Both platforms have joined hands to feed 1 million people across the nation during the holy month of Ramadan. As thousands gather for a beautiful Iftar, the campaign’s video shows us how for once we can let go of differences and come together as Pakistanis under one sky.

The campaign is captivating, from the concept to the videography, everything has you hooked and mesmerized till the end. The Badshahi Mosque looks spectacular and the natural shots of the children in every frame and transition are completely on point, and in sync with the overall philosophy of the campaign.

Boy Commits Suicide at Centaurus Mall Islamabad!

In a sad state of events, a young boy, who seems to be in his teenage years committed suicide a couple of days ago.

The boy, identified as Ammar a student of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad jumped off the 3rd floor of the mall and scuffled to his fatal injuries.

Ammar had visited Centaurus Mall with his sister, brother, and a family friend. He had tried to commit suicide twice before, and the family had thought that he was under possession of a supernatural power.

Facebook user Tehreem Tahir shared a post about why Ammar did what he did after talking to a neighbor and his teacher. Tehreem came across that he was very disturbed because he was bullied because of his thin voice and skin color.

She wrote:

“The story behind the Centaurus incident.

This post isn’t to blame anyone, it’s an awareness post. In reference to my last post about the accident in Centaurus, there were so many different stories on how this happened. I talked to his neighbor and teacher to find out the real story.

Ammar was in Centaurus with his sister, brother and a family friend. He was going through a very tough time from the past 1-1.5 years, presently he was going through a treatment as well. Before that, he acted in a way that the family thought he was under an influence of jin. In this time period, he tried committing suicide twice.

One of the reasons why he was like this was that he was bullied at the college people made fun of his voice as he had a thin voice called him ‘kalay’. He was a science student as his mother wished, but he wanted to go in arts as it was difficult for him. He changed many schools but it didn’t help.

Mental illness is as serious as physical illness and its time we understand that. We are moving towards a time where the family structure is getting weak, with the new technology in hand we are connected to so many people yet we are alone and isolated. It is said that the best therapy is a deep honest conversation. Everyone needs someone in his/her life with whom they can share every tiny bit.

As you can see in the footage without thinking twice he just runs towards the escalator, puts his feet on the other side and jumps and then people are saying suicide is haram and what has he done to his parents just think for once imagine what battle he was fighting which made him take this painful step of jumping from the 4th floor.

In the end, I would like to say that. Be there for everyone around you, it’s time you understand what bullying can do to someone. You don’t know what battles they are fighting inside if someone ever talks about suicide take it seriously and help them seek a psychologist as there is nothing wrong in seeing one.

If a normal person can go to a doctor for the illness he can go to a psychologist for mental illness. Every single human being has a great role in this world, we are here not to live in isolation but with the people around us. Make honest conversations and help people by literally just listening to what they feel. It will help them a lot I swear.

Boys have the same emotions as girls lets just stop telling them to man up and not cry they have emotions they also feel weak. In our society just to man up they keep everything inside as they don’t want to be made fun of which builds frustration inside and it grows. The percentage of men getting a heart attack is higher than women and it’s for a reason. Let them cry, talk about what makes them upset even just listening will help.

And sorry for the last post, heard so many different stories even when I was standing there but its all clear now after talking to the boys teacher and neighbor.”

https://youtu.be/LR3FS36jn0A

Ammar’s incident has once again highlighted the much-needed awareness on mental health for children in educational institutes and the need to apply strict policies on bullying. It also makes us ponder upon where are we headed as human beings and what have our children been learning which led to a child killing himself.

What are your thoughts about mental health awareness in institutes?

As commonly observed during the holy month, the hours prior to Iftar are the busiest. The roads are jam-packed with cars and motorcycles as people struggle to reach home in time to break their ‘roza’ ( fast ).

Careem, the popular ride-hailing service is known for its innovative marketing campaigns. The beverage powerhouse Pepsi has also taken marketing to new heights while introducing the nation’s first AR filter on Facebook.

Aamir Liaquat Hints at Leaving PTI

aamir liaquat

Aamir Liaquat knows the art of staying in the spotlight!

Just last week, he made a dramatic return to his Ramadan transmission after PEMRA declared a ban on his show, following a controversial feud between religious scholars.

Apparently, the televangelist turned lucky and Islamabad High Court permitted him to appear on television again.

Aamir Liaquat Trolls BOL Network for Not Paying Salaries!

Now in yet another twist, Aamir Liaquat has made it to the news again and this time it seems he will be quitting his political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), just after 3 months of joining.

In an angry tweet, the scholar-turned- entertainer expressed his disappointment over being refused a ticket by PTI’s Karachi leader Firdous Shamim Naqvi.

Sullen and annoyed at the party, Aamir Bhai announced that he will reveal his future political course by today.

The host also accused PTI members of abusing him!

He ended up his Twitter rant by threatening that he will open the pandora box if immediate action is not taken against the matter.

Well PTI better not mess with Aamir Liaquat, that too when the elections are just around the corner.

Aamir Liaquat has a long history of switching channels, becoming the only host in Pakistan who has worked for almost every network of the nation.

Not to forget, he left MQM in 2008 after a disagreement with the leaders of the political party!

Later, he rejoined the squad again in 2015 and shocked everybody with his impulsive nature.

He parted ways again with MQM in 2016, following the party’s supremo Altaf Hussain’s ‘anti-Pakistan’ speech.

However, he declared that he will NEVER enter politics ever again after his departure from his old party.

‘Will never return into politics’

In March 2018, Aamir Liaquat declared that he is joining PTI and became a strong supporter of Imran Khan.

Swara Bhasker Hits Back At Backlash from Pakistani Celebrities!

Veere Di Wedding might be minting massive moolah at the Bollywood box-office. However, the flick has ignited a wave of backlash from Pakistan.

In an interview, one of the ‘veeres’, Swara Bhasker, said some strong statements about Pakistan.

Speaking to  Rajeev Masand of News 18 on June 2, the actress labeled Pakistan a “failing state”:

“I don’t understand why we keep taking pleasure from all the silly things that happen in Pakistan”. The lady also went ahead to claim that Pakistani’s have a “way worse vocabulary than we do”.

Pakistani Celebrities Roast Swara Bhaskar on Anti-Pakistan Statement

In response to Swara’s statements, several Pakistani celebrities came out in support of our country.

Bashing the B-town celeb for her choice of words, Urwa Hocane posted several messages for the actor, calling her out for her contradictory statements.

Actor Gohar Rasheed too had a few things to say to the Bollywood actress:

Armeena Rana Khan was seen sharing some advice for the actress:

Promoting unity, here’s what Mehwish Hayat had to say in response to Swara’s tweet!

In the face of all this backlash, it was only a matter of time that Swara would respond and respond she did!

Here’s what the ‘Veere Di Wedding’ actress had to say in her “defense”.

And that’s not all the ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ actress had to say!

Sharing a post on her Instagram, she added that “Indo-Pak peace is on the horizon”.

And when that didn’t help in soothing the matters, she ended the “debate” by posting that her love for Pakistan remains unchanged.

Really Swara? We get that to promote a film, one does tend to be a bit controversial – however, this time, it seems that her statements struck a wrong chord with her audience.

WWDC 2018: Will There be Any New Hardware Reveals?

Sarfaraz Ahmed Proud of England Draw Despite Headingley Hammering

Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed insisted he was proud of his youthful side even after an innings and 55-run defeat at Headingley denied them a Test-series victory in England.

That overwhelming loss, completed inside three days on Sunday, meant the two-match campaign ended all square at 1-1 following what Sarfraz said was Pakistan’s “perfect” nine-wicket victory in the first Test at Lord’s.

Defeat left Pakistan still looking for their first Test series success in England since 1996, when fast-bowling greats Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis were in the side.

Despite skittling England out for just 184 in their first innings at Lord’s, Sarfraz elected to bat after winning the toss in Leeds.

While the Headingley pitch provided a typically good surface, overhead conditions quickly became humid and cloudy, creating a swing-friendly environment that made batting difficult.

Even so, Pakistan would still have expected to have made more than their 174, which featured a third fifty in as many Tests from teenage leg-spinner Shadab Khan.

That total meant they were always chasing the game and, were just one individual effort away from conceding a large first-innings lead.

Having fielded brilliantly as a side at Lord’s, Pakistan saw Hasan Ali drop a routine catch when Jos Buttler was on four.

The dashing Buttler punished Pakistan with an unbeaten 80 in an England reply of 363.

Pakistan, 189 behind on first innings, then slumped to 134 all out in 46 overs second time around as their top order again failed to fire.

But having also overseen a victory over Test debutants Ireland in Dublin during this tour, Sarfraz was pleased with Pakistan’s progress.

“When we came here people thought we will not win one game but the way we played at Lord’s everything was perfect, our fast bowling was perfect, our batting and fielding were perfect,” Sarfraz told reporters.

“It’s disappointing that we had a chance to win the series but unfortunately we didn’t play well here.”

– ‘1-1 good for us’ –

Overall there were still plenty of plus-points for Pakistan, not least the bowling of seamer Mohammad Abbas who took a match-winning eight for 64 at Lord’s.

“I am proud of my young team, the way Abbas is bowling, Shadab is doing well, Faheem Ashraf did well, so I’m really disappointed that we didn’t win (at Headingley) but 1-1 is good for us,” said wicket-keeper Sarfraz.

Experienced opening batsman Azhar Ali averaged just 16.75 during the series while Sarfraz averaged 10.33 — well below his career Test mark of 37.78.

“Azhar is our main batsman, it’s correct he is not in good nick but he scored a good fifty at Lord’s,” said Sarfraz.

As for his own batting, Sarfraz added: “I am not satisfied with my batting in the series.

“I committed mistakes and played a few bad shots.”

Pakistan arrived for this tour having gone several months without a Test since a 68-run defeat by Sri Lanka in Dubai and Sarfraz said playing three in relatively quick succession was always likely to prove a tough challenge for his team.

“We played our last Test in October, so it’s difficult when you play a Test after five or six months. Test cricket is a different format, you have to adjust to five-day cricket. If you have to field for two-three days, it’s tough,” explained Sarfraz.

“The more you play Test cricket, you get to mature as a Test player. Now we have five Tests in the UAE (two against Australia and three against New Zealand), then we have three in South Africa and that will help us mature as a Test team,” he added.

Pakistanis have now taken it to social media to bash one of the ‘veeres’ for calling the country ‘a failing state’ in an interview.

That actress is none other than Swara Bhaskar!

The same Swara who had visited our homeland and had been all praises for it until now.

In a recent interview, Swara said;

“For some reason, I have to keep answering for that. I don’t know why people think I’m a spokesperson for the Pakistani government. What do you expect from a state that’s run by Sharia Laws?”

“They’re a nonsecular state. I’m not surprised at all. Why should we hold up Pakistan, which is a failing state — I don’t understand why we keep taking pleasure and feeling a sense of self-worth from all the silly things that happen in Pakistan. Apologies to all my Pakistani friends right now. Rest assured, Pakistanis have way worse vocabulary than we do. I know,” she added.

However back in 2015, while appearing in a comedy show, Swara was all praises for our nation!

In a response to Swara’s statement, Pakistani actress Urwa Hocane took it on social media to bash the B-Town actress for the choice of words used.

The Punjab Nahi Jaungi superstar was not the only one to raise her voice on this matter.

Actor Gohar Rasheed also gave his two cents.

He added that this stunt was pulled off for publicity as the actress is not as famous as her two superstar co-stars Kareena and Sonam Kapoor.

Gohar also took her on a flashback to the 2015 interview in which she has praised Lahore while comparing it to other major countries around the world.

In the end, he simply stated “THERE IS NO POWER ON EARTH THAT CAN UNDO PAKISTAN 🇵🇰 “

Even Amreena Rana Khan roasted Sara after hearing her controversial statements!

Mehwish Hayat also took to Twitter and bashed Swara for her mean remarks!

And of course, Momina Mustehsan too couldn’t stay silent on the matter!

However, the hottest debate at the moment on social media is whether Swara Bhaskar is an actress or a chameleon?
