IGTV

Back in 2018, Instagram initiated its long-form video brand IGTV. We’re less than a month into 2020 and maybe the most well-known way to access IGTV is going away.

Wondering what went wrong? Well, there’s more to learn about this news flash.

Instagram will remove the IGTV button that appears at the top right corner of users’ home screens in the main Instagram app. The reason is that no one was willingly tapping on that button.

However, that doesn’t imply that IGTV is going away or even being scaled back in any meaningful way.

That button was just one pathway into the distinguished world of IGTV. You can still find it in previews on your news feed, an entire IGTV page in the Explore tab, and on the profile page of any user who has made IGTV videos. Relieved? Excellent!

It was reported that very few people were downloading the app of IGTV. It was estimated that the app had only 7 million downloads since the day it had been launched.

When compared to TikTok, another popular app liked by the millennial generation is listed on having over 100 million downloads from the launching date!

As IGTV app is not going anywhere any time soon, the button removal and poor app download could potentially see the feature folded into the Instagram core offering soon.

In November Instagram announced a test of removing public like counts. The move was aimed to tackle online bullying and peer pressure on influencers.

Nonetheless, it has prompted some users to accuse the app of looking instead to increase direct advertising by reducing the influence of its top users.
