5G is the fifth generation technology standard for broadband cellular networks which will leave 4G behind. However, the technology was not predicted to come to Pakistan at least for a few decades. How did we get its first test run done already?

Who Brought it Here?

PTCL Group is one of the country’s largest and most influential telecom groups. It comes as no doubt that they have tested 5G technology in a special, exclusive ceremony at PTCL headquarters. The ceremony was attended by the likes of Syed Amin Ul Haque, Federal Minister for Information Technology & Telecommunication as the Chief Guest.

However, it is important to note that the trial is strictly on a non-commercial basis right now.

What Did The Demonstration Entail of?

The ceremony included live 5G usage scenarios at the ceremony. The demonstrations also included remote surgery, Cloud gaming, and overview of other anticipated 5G technology applications. The most exciting part has to be the achievement of the fastest data rate with download speeds reaching 1.685 Gbps during the 5G trial.

The Medical Advancements Made Possible

The introduction of 5G technology in Pakistan will mean more than just fast data for phones. Once applied in Pakistan, it can enable doctors to conduct surgeries remotely in far-off areas. This can not only actually remove barriers between doctors but it can advance fundamental social developments in underdeveloped areas of Pakistan.

Social Impact of 5G

5G will make the “Digital Pakistan” dream come true. It will enable the digitalization of Pakistan by connecting people with efficient purpose-built technology to facilitate opening industries as well as individuals.

Moreover, this 5G can enable future innovations in struggling sectors such as remote education, public safety, transportation, health and manufacturing amongst others. What we are hoping for is the more equal distribution of resources by utilising this mega-tech development. 

What Are The Limitations?

There are several limitations that have yet to be overcome. 5G is firstly an incredibly expensive technology which a third world country like ours can not afford. Pakistan still does not have access to 4G in many areas, how can we jump onto 5G?

Moreover, 5G requires an entirely different infrastructure to be laid on the ground level. This obviously means a large investment. In the face of several other investments waiting to be made, will we prioritize this?

5G technology will surely enable an emerging technological environment and create an ecosystem conducive to economic prosperity in Pakistan. However, we have a long way to go.

Naseebo Lal Reacts To Response On PSL Anthem 2021

PSL Anthem for 2021 was released with quite a bang. There was much noise right after the song was aired. Some just did not like the song, while some thought that only Ali Zafar had given good PSL anthems. But what was in this year’s anthem? It had Naseebo Lal, Aima Baig, and Young Stunners coming together to form a stadium anthem that would make the crowd ‘groove’ with the music.

Yes, groove does not just mean a trench; it also means dancing to popular music. And yes, the anthem does grow on you. So when you sit down to listen, sometime later, you will be singing along just like you did with ‘Baby Shark’. But people have been making fun of the anthem. Aima, one could say, has not paid much heed to the trolls, the Young Stunners were used in many memes, Naseebo Lal, however, got the most bashing. The haters did not like her presence for a PSL song.

While there are haters, as there are for literally everything, people have also showered love for the song and the singers.

For Naseebo Lal, this project was different from what she is used to. Singing a song focused on a sports-related activity, which is also the most awaited event for the entire country, must have been a new experience for her.

In an interview, she was asked about how she felt. Amidst tears of joy, she mentioned that it was all God’s blessing that she got the project. Never had she ever gotten anthems or PSL songs to sings, so if the organizers thought she could perform, it was all thanks to God. She also mentions that it was her talent that made people shortlist her for it because if it was not a challenging tune, she might not have gotten it.

The Groove Mera song has won the hearts of loyal music fans and the fans of PSL who are grooving with ‘Aaj dekhe ga crowd’ in the talented voice of Naseebo Lal.

Pakistanis have been facing disruptions in internet services today. Now, we are a nation that is used to internet problems, but as it turns out, this time, there is a legit reason behind these problems.

So the problem detected is that the submarine cable that connects Pakistan’s internet to the rest of the world is offline. It isn’t the only internet supplier, but it does occupy the major pie (20%), so problems there are bound to affect most of the population. The IMEWE cable needs to be restored, but there has not been an update on how much time will the restoration process take.

Due to some system glitch, Zong users could use all the data they wanted, make phone calls or send texts without being charged anything. It was like a dream come true for Zong users, yes. But it was also hell for the other network users who witnessed Zong people flaunting their free internet. And as we are famous for it, Pakistanis started pouring in memes on Twitter.

The Toyota Fortuner is currently set at a price of between 90Lac to 100Lac. This seems like quite a hefty amount for a vehicle but what it offers can stand as a justification for its price. Its features are premium and it’s fit for the whole family. Now, this is an impressive vehicle!

Coming to the second one, the surf is available at a price of Rs.95Lac and moves up and beyond Rs.100Lac. There is not a substantial difference between the prices of the two vehicles compared here. We, as Pakistanis, have a certain passion within us. This is built in a lot of the people here due to it being so popular here. There are different opinions from everyone! Even Shoaib Akhtar has expressed himself over the anthem ‘Groove Mera’. A lot of people have said they love the opening, while some have said ‘Young Stunners’ performed well. Alongside there, there are many people who have either made memes or satire about the anthem!

As per Counterpoint, which is a well-known industry data provider, the sales of the iPhone 12 Mini were only 5% of the total sales of all the iPhones in January 2021.

Industry standards have shown that consumers have preferred to buy larger devices in the past few years. It is important to note this point as the iPhone 12 Mini was the smallest phone in the smartphone range released by Apple.

J.P Morgan analyst William Yang says that this sharp decline in the sales of iPhone 12 mini reveal Apple might even stop the production of the phones in the second quarter of the year 2021, as more people prefer the upper models rather than opting for the lowest one.

6 Reasons Why K2 Mountain Is Claimed To Be ‘Savage’

Ali Sadpara and his accompany mountaineers have been the subject of headlines for over a week now. The Pakistani mountaineer, with a passion that could put the mountains’ height to shame, has been missing for 4 days now. The desire to mount K2 may or may not have claimed their lives but we’re hoping for a miracle.

What Is K2?

K2 is the world’s second-highest peak, coming second only to Mount Everest. This mountain, however, has been termed as a deadly peak as it has enveloped the majority of the lives that have tried to mount it.

Here’s why it is so deadly:

1. The Height

K2 is located at 28251 ft above sea level which we can only imagine. The temperatures here can exceed even -60 Celsius! The geographical location of K2 is between Baltistan in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of northern Pakistan and the Dafdar Township in Taxkorgan Tajik of Xinjiang, China.

2. Where Does The Climb Start?

The climb to reach K2 starts from the Pakistan region which is why most foreign mountaineers come to Pakistan first. Its base camp, from where the climb begins, starts from a height of 16896ft which speaks for itself!

3. The Neighbours Are Just As Daunting

Interestingly or horrifyingly, K2 is surrounded by five of the world’s 17 highest mountains as well. The peak is nestled amongst other humongous ones which makes it all the more terrifying.

4. One of a Kind

K2 is also called the deadly mount because it is the sole 8000 m peak that has never been reached by anyone from its East Face or during wintertime. Ali Sadpara’s quote reads that he wants to mount the peak in “winters” especially because of how impossible it is. Being situated towards the north, it is more prone to unbearably severe winters.

5. 25% Death Rate

It was George Bell who actually named the peak the “savage mountain”. George Bell was a climber on the 1953 American Expedition who almost slipped from the climb. It is a generally held belief that out of every four mountaineers who climb the mountain, one person dies. Mount Everest’s death rate stands at just 4%.

6. Previously Failed Expeditions

Till date, K2 has never been climbed in winter and after the tragedy that we are only waiting for to be confirmed, it still has not been. The expeditions in 2019 that started with this motive were also unsuccessful.

USF Awards Contract To Telenor Pakistan For Providing Hi-Speed Broadband In Chitral, Upper Dir And Lower Dir Districts

Islamabad, February 10, 2021: The Universal Service Fund (USF) awarded a contract worth approximately PKR 1.37 Billion to Telenor for providing High-Speed Mobile Broadband services in Chitral, Upper Dir and Lower Dir districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Syed Amin Ul Haque and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis & HRD, Syed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari witnessed the contract signing ceremony held at the USF Office, Islamabad on Wednesday. The contracts were signed by Haaris Mahmood Chaudhary, CEO, USF with Irfan Wahab Khan, CEO Telenor. The Federal Secretary for IT & Telecommunication and Chairman USF Board, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui, and Chairman PTA, Major General (R) Amir Azeem Bajwa were also present at the ceremony.

Chief Guest of the ceremony, Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Syed Amin Ul Haque said: “With the help of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), districts of Chitral, Upper Dir and Lower Dir can achieve better visibility, communication and integration into economic and tourism flows. High-Speed Mobile Broadband services will enhance tourism and attract tourists, thus creating jobs. The Ministry of IT and Telecommunication will continue close cooperation to support the tourism industry of Pakistan and provide the basis for achieving sustainable rural development”. Furthermore, he extended his warm felicitation to the teams of USF and Telenor on the contract signing and emphasized making Digital Pakistan vision a reality.

Guest of Honor of the ceremony, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis & HRD, Syed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari while congratulating USF and Telenor on the signing of the contract said, “The use of ICT in tourism is a welcoming step for the residents of Chitral, Upper Dir and Lower Dir districts. High-speed internet connectivity will expedite activity in the region and make the travel process efficient and pleasant”. In addition, he expressed gratitude to the Federal Minister and the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication for the guidance and support.

Sharing his views on the development, CEO Telenor Pakistan, Irfan Wahab Khan said, “We are committed to ensuring the basic right of connectivity to the people of Pakistan. At Telenor Pakistan, we are driven to continue empowering the country by bridging the digital divide, creating access to opportunities and uplifting the lives of millions. We stand firm in our commitment of connecting people to what matters most to them and aim to continue providing opportunities in the future.”

Also, sharing his thoughts at the ceremony, CEO USF, Haaris Mahmood Chaudhary said: “This project will benefit an unserved population of 0.7 Million in 648 unserved mauzas, thereby covering an unserved area of 18,212 sq. km. of Chitral, Upper Dir and Lower Dir districts. We are committed to empowering the unserved and unserved communities of Pakistan and we look forward to strengthening our partnership with Telenor”. Moreover, he thanked the Federal Minister and the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication for adopting policies and mechanisms that are supportive of the digital revolution of tourist places.

Back when we were enrolled in schools and colleges, we used to study that Pakistan has to exports waste because there is just too much of it. And the countries importing it would employ it in various uses. But now, it seems that instead of exporting it at minimal rates, we have realized that we can make better use of it.

FPCCI on Waste Utilization

The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) president has hinted that the concept of generating energy through waste will soon be introduced in Pakistan. Mian Nasser Hyatt Maggo also said that all the associated ministries would be taught about this technology was this to be employed. This happened during the meeting with the delegation of the Pakistan Plastic Manufacturers Association on Tuesday. He mentioned how Pakistan was getting more used to the idea of waste recycling and Chinese innovation.

Moreover, he said that Pakistan should delve into non-traditional goods now because “Pakistan’s exports are concentrated in only a few products and a handful of markets.”

FPCCI also stated that this also means that rules and regulations of doing business need to ease up because they directly affect the country’s exports. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Plastic Manufacturers Association delegation added that they have been very active in introducing Pakistan’s plastic internationally. And this contribution is important for the economic development of Pakistan.

Currently, due to taxation by the Federal Board of Revenue and Sindh Revenue Board leads to double taxation on the industry. And this negatively affects the revenues. Moreover, it’s not just the problems in doing business internationally but also doing business with different Pakistan cities.

Xiaomi’s Mi 11 To Be Shipped With A 55W GaN Charger

Xiaomi launched Mi 11 in 2020 in China. This year, they have started rolling out the phone to other places as well. The device is one gorgeous amalgamation of outstanding features that anyone would love to possess. Off the top features are a 120Hz refresh rate, 4,600mAh battery, and a 108MP triple camera. But it was not to include a charger.

The charger is now included

In China, the consumers of Xiaomi had to buy the charger separately. It was going to cost $15. They said there would be no additional cost, though. And everywhere else, they will be shipping it without the charger. But now, launching the phone for its European market, they have changed the plan. They have announced that the phone will come with a 55W GaN charger.

The Mi 11 has a QHD+ AMOLED display and will be available at a selling price of €749 for the 8GB+128GB variant. The retail packaging will also be different, considering it will now have to hold the charger as well.

Specifications of Mi 11

Looking at how the phone looks, it has a metallic mid-frame, corning Gorilla Glass Victus on the front, and has a glass back. As for the battery, the 4,600mAh will do 55W wired fast charging, 50W wireless fast charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging. The phone will have an in-display Optical Fingerprint Sensor and support type C data cable.

For the camera, Mi 11 has 108MP, 1/1.33″ sensor, f/1.85, 1.6µm, OIS in the primary camera; 13MP, f/2.4, 123° FoV, a wide-angle sensor for secondary, and 5MP, f/2.4, AF, macro for tertiary. Meanwhile, the front camera has the specification 20 MP and f/2.4.

The touch response rate in the flagship product 480Hz, and the pixel density is 515 PPI. Other features it supports are 1500 nits peak brightness, 10-bit color, HDR10+, Hole punch display, and is Quad-curved.

Privacy Policy: Google Has A Good News For Its Users

[Update]: Going on to a website, and it asks you if you are okay with cookies. It does ease up your life a little because then you start getting personalized ads. But that means your privacy is being compromised. To make sure you see what you want, they have to track your location, analyze your preferences, your dislikes, among other things. Sometimes it gets too much, and overt use leads to people thinking their privacy is being invaded. But what if we were to tell you that that’s not the case anymore because Google is doing something new?

Well, you will still get personalized ads because, let’s be honest, that’s how businesses will keep running. But now, they won’t be tracking the user. The process with which they will do this is called Federated Learning of Cohorts (FLoC). Google product manager Chetna Bindra, when talking about it, said:

“This approach effectively hides individuals ‘in the crowd’ and uses on-device processing to keep a person’s web history private on the browser.”

The internet giant will start testing it in collaboration with advertisers later this year, where the system is said to generate a replacement signal for third party cookies. This way, they will be able to safeguard their users’ data.

The “all-new” Gmail is available to the more than four million businesses that pay for G Suite services.

People who use the email service personally for free can opt-in by choosing settings, vice president of product management David Thacker said in a blog post.

Revamped Gmail has “a brand new look on the web, advanced security features, new applications of Google’s artificial intelligence and even more integrations with other G Suite apps,” according to Thacker.

A confidential mode added to Gmail promises to let people sending messages set expiration dates and block them from being forwarded, copied, downloaded, or printed.

Messages can be revoked after being sent, Thacker said.

Senders of mail can also require that a code delivered by text message be entered before an email can be viewed in an added security layer.

“Because you can require additional authentication via text message to view an email, it’s also possible to protect data even if a recipient’s email account has been hijacked while the message is active,” Thacker said.

The confidential mode will begin to roll out to personal Gmail users and a limited number of G Suite customers in the coming weeks, according to Google.

Artificial intelligence is being put to work in new Gmail features, including “nudging” people to tend to neglected messages and automated reply suggestions along the lines of those added to a mobile version of the email service last year.

“Gmail can also recommend when to unsubscribe from mailing lists,” Thacker said.

“Using intelligence, unsubscribe suggestions appear based on cues like how many emails you get from a sender and how many of them you actually read.”

Google and rival technology titans such as Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft have followed people into the internet cloud with services, digital content, and software hosted online at data centers but accessed from the gamut of devices.
