International Data Corporation forecast Wednesday that global smartphone sales would cool this year before heating up with help from new 5G networks and India’s vibrant market.
An IDC Worldwide Mobile Phone Tracker expected smartphone sales to slip two-tenths of a percent this year to total 1.462 billion in a second straight year of slight decline.
But IDC predicted that the smartphone market would reignite next year, growing about 3 percent annually to 1.654 billion in the year 2022.
The “biggest driver” of the downturn last year was said by IDC to be the China market, which is expected to be down 7.1 percent this year after shrinking 4.9 percent last year.
IDC forecast that the smartphone market in China would flatten out next year, while sales in India were expected to continue to boom on low-priced handsets sold by Chinese companies.
“China remains the focal point for many given that it consumes roughly 30 percent of the world’s smartphones,” IDC Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Device Tracker program vice president Ryan Reith said in a release.
“But, plenty of pockets of growth can be found beyond China.”
A “catalyst to watch” will be arriving next year of smartphones tailored for ultra-fast 5G telecommunications networks, according to IDC.
While smartphone shipments will ebb this year, the average selling price will rise more than 10 percent to $345 and remain on an upward trend, said IDC research manager Anthony Scarsella.
“This year will continue to focus on the ultra-high-end segment of the market as we expect a surge of premium flagship devices to launch in developed markets,” Scarsella said.
A trend toward premium smartphones would play to Apple’s strength, and IDC expected iPhone sales to grow 2.6 percent to 221 million total this year and to climb to 242 million by the year 2022.
Handsets powered by Google-backed Android mobile were expected to continue to dominate the smartphone market, with a share of about 85 percent remaining relatively stable during the coming five years.
“There is no question that Android is the OS (operating system) of choice for the mass market and nothing leads us to believe this will change,” IDC said in its forecast.
Mohammad Amir has had some of the greatest and undoubtedly the worst days of his career in England — sometimes during the very same match.
But fresh from helping bowl Pakistan to a crushing nine-wicket win over England in the first Test at Lord’s, the left-arm paceman hopes he can enjoy the “best memory” with a series win in the second and final Test at Headingley, starting Friday.
Amir, who burst on the world scene as a teenager, got his name on the Lord’s honors board with a six-wicket haul against England in 2010.
But in the same game at the ‘home of cricket’, Amir was caught up in a spot-fixing scandal at the which led to a jail sentence and a five-year ban.
That same season, Amir took three wickets for 20 runs in 11 overs at Headingley during a sensational bowling display as an Australia side featuring Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke, Michael Hussey and Steven Smith were dismissed for just 88 in the first innings of the second ‘neutral’ Test.
The match, which Pakistan eventually won by three wickets, saw Amir stake a claim to ‘The Ball of the 21st Century’ when an all-but-unplayable delivery that pitched on the middle-and-leg stump of Mitchell Johnson seamed away late to clip the top of the left-hander’s off-stump.
Amir, who helped Essex win the English County Championship last season when he also starred in Pakistan’s outstanding one-day Champions Trophy final victory over arch-rivals India at The Oval, has rarely hit those Headingley heights in Test cricket since his return to the international stage two years ago.
Amir, however, took five wickets — including four for 36 in the second innings — as Pakistan outclassed England in all areas to win inside four days at Lord’s on Sunday.
“It’s a big achievement winning in Test cricket in England against England at home,” Amir said on Wednesday.
“If we win the series I think it will be the best memory of my life,” the swing bowler added.
– ‘Block out the noise’ –
Pakistan will be forced into a change, with Fakhar Zaman set to replace Babar Azam after his fellow batsman suffered a broken arm facing all-rounder Ben Stokes at Lord’s.
England has recalled opener Keaton Jennings in place of the dropped Mark Stoneman, who managed just 13 runs in total at Lord’s.
“You will only get judged on the number of runs you score,” said Jennings, one of Alastair Cook’s 12 opening partners in the six years since Andrew Strauss’s retirement.
England made a late addition to their squad, with uncapped left-arm seamer Sam Curran called up Wednesday after Stokes suffered a hamstring strain.
Regardless of Stokes’s fitness, England may recall all-rounder Chris Woakes, if only to bolster their fallible batting, in place of fast bowler Mark Wood.
Despite their lamentable Lord’s showing, James Anderson insisted England could bounce back by squaring the series at the Yorkshire home ground of captain Joe Root.
The team received a barrage of criticism after Lord’s but Anderson, England’s all-time leading Test wicket-taker, said: “The outside noise is always there, and it’s a bit louder when you perform badly.
“We’ll try to block out the noise — from whoever is shouting out,” he added, suggesting a “bit of a luck” may be all England need to improve on a run of six defeats in their last eight Tests.
If England is seeking inspiration, they could look to the Headingley example of the West Indies.
Last year, the tourists suffered humiliating innings and 209-run defeat by England in the first Test at Edgbaston, only to enjoy a five-wicket victory in the second Test as Shai Hope became the first batsman to score hundreds in both innings of a first-class match at Headingley.
England, though, might settle for one century by any member of their faltering top order, let alone two, right now.

After a power-packed teaser, Sanju’s trailer is out and as expected, has left the world in awe!
Teasing us with a spree of iconic posters, the trailer’s release has just raised the game even higher with Ranbir’s rendition of the character.
The promo is no less than a whirlwind of emotions; showing Sanjay’s rise to stardom with Rocky, the actor’s dark days in jail, his crazy romantic trysts, life as a drug-addict and Sunil Dutt’s deep bond with his son.
Watch Sanju’s trailer for yourself here!
https://youtu.be/1J76wN0TPI4
It is apparent that nobody can stop Rajkumar’s Hiran’s directorial venture from becoming the blockbuster of the year.
Hands down, Ranbir Kapoor has proved that he was indeed the best choice for Sanjay Dutt’s portrayal. His performance is absolutely unbelievable in the biopic and the way he has donned the avatar is nothing short of a wonder. Seems like this movie will give a much-needed boost to his stagnant career.
The trailer also provides us with a glimpse of the ensemble star-cast including Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Vicky Kaushal, Sonam Kapoor and Dia Mirza amongst others.
Produced by Vinod Chopra Films and Rajkumar Hirani Films in association with Fox Star Studios, ‘Sanju’ is all set to be released on June 29, 2018.
If you thought that Snapchat cannot get any more creative after introducing AR games, think again! The company has introduced its first voice-activated Snapchat Lens and its pink (kind of)!
The company has been focusing a lot on their Lens to provide their users new filters and experiences. They even created and established the Lens Studio for creators to play around and show their talent to the world.
According to Twitter user Geoff D., the Lens may seem pretty basic at first – it’s a cute animal mask overlay that adds neon pink ears, nose and whiskers to your face. But the ears will actually react to sounds picked up by your microphone.
The blessed days of Ramadan are very significant for Muslims. The holy month teaches abstinence, brotherhood and gives the message of practicing tolerance and patience. However, a recent incident involving two families returning to Karachi Airport after performing Umrah has compelled us to hang our heads in shame.
A heated argument erupted between members of two families over Zam Zam water during their flight back to the homeland. The incident took an even uglier turn as soon as they landed at the Karachi International airport.
Consequently, a heavy brawl erupted between the clans, even involving other passengers and visitors in its heat.
A witness shared the incident’s video on social media, showing the sad state of affairs at the Karachi airport.
With the fight quickly escalating and creating havoc, the airports’ officials quickly stepped in to sort out the matter.

Although the issue was eventually resolved, on social media was left outraged over the lack of decorum displayed by the people involved in the incident.
Here’s what they had to say about it:

Nissan has produced a convertible version of the world’s best-selling all-electric car, although it’s a one-off creation designed to celebrate the milestone of 100,000 sales of the Leaf in its native Japan.
If asked what could be done to make the Nissan Leaf EV more attractive to the mass market, it’s probably fair to say most people would say longer battery life and not many would come up with the idea of making it a convertible.
But an alluring model that goes by the name Leaf Open Car, as unveiled to the world in front of a forum of 100 people in the Japanese capital, Tokyo. And there are no plans whatsoever to put the Leaf Open Car into production, which now having seen it seems a bit of a shame.
From the image released by Nissan of the convertible Leaf it’s hard to tell if the roof folds into the trunk or if it’s been removed completely.
It probably doesn’t matter either way though, as practicality isn’t really an issue for a one-of-a-kind concept.
The Leaf was launched in 2010, and the world’s most famous EV recently entered its second-generation with improved battery capacity and more conventional styling than the original. More than 300,000 units have now been sold worldwide since its introduction, and the car remains an integral part of Nissan plans for an electrified future where the brand intends to be selling more than a million all-electric cars per year by as soon as 2022. The company’s Infiniti luxury sub-brand is also going to start introducing EVs into its portfolio in 2021.
Over the next five years Nissan has plans in place to launch eight all-new electric models, although four of them are planned as China-only models at the moment. We know one will be a new crossover using the same platform as the current Leaf, and if it retains a healthy portion of the styling of the IMx concept it’s said to be inspired by it could be something pretty special when it reaches production in 2020.
After Chanel, Prada and Dior, fashion house Louis Vuitton presented its Resort 2019 collection Monday, May 28 at the Marguerite and Aimé Maeght Foundation near Saint-Paul de Vence in the South of France. Sometimes highly feminine, sometimes androgynous, Louis Vuitton’s Resort 2019 woman has several sides, always laced with a sense of freedom and carried with confidence.
Prints were legion in the Louis Vuitton Resort 2019 collection, with polka dots, stripes, graphic patterns, flowers and abstract motifs. Whether all-over patterns or in smaller touches, and with shiny fabrics or pastel hues, prints were the stars of this Resort 2019 show, reflecting its many inspirations.
Designer Nicolas Ghesquière — artistic director of Louis Vuitton women’s collections — also played with volumes in this mid-season show, with some close-cut creations plus fuller pieces and layering effects using various materials.
The Resort 2019 collection featured many accessories, with hats — in both sophisticated and wilder styles — belts, mask-like sunglasses and extra-large earrings. As for footwear, Louis Vuitton picked thigh boots as the mid-season star, with flat, chunky, sneaker-like soles, creating a futuristic style with a sporty feel.
A computer was better than human dermatologists at detecting skin cancer in a study that pitted human against machine in the quest for better, faster diagnostics, researchers said Tuesday.
A team from Germany, the United States and France taught an artificial intelligence system to distinguish dangerous skin lesions from benign ones, showing it more than 100,000 images.
The machine — a deep learning convolutional neural network or CNN — was then tested against 58 dermatologists from 17 countries, shown photos of malignant melanomas and benign moles.
Just over half the dermatologists were at “expert” level with more than five years of experience, 19 percent had between two and five years’ experience, and 29 percent were beginners with less than two years under their belt.
“Most dermatologists were outperformed by the CNN,” the research team wrote in a paper published in the journal Annals of Oncology.
On average, flesh and blood dermatologists accurately detected 86.6 percent of skin cancers from the images, compared to 95 percent for the CNN.
“The CNN missed fewer melanomas, meaning it had a higher sensitivity than the dermatologists,” the study’s first author Holger Haenssle of the University of Heidelberg said in a statement.
It also “misdiagnosed fewer benign moles as malignant melanoma… this would result in less unneccessary surgery.”
The dermatologists’ performance improved when they were given more information of the patients and their skin lesions.
The team said AI may be a useful tool for faster, easier diagnosis of skin cancer, allowing surgical removal before it spreads.
There are about 232,000 new cases of melanoma, and 55,500 deaths, in the world each year, they added.
But it is unlikely that a machine will take over from human doctors entirely, rather functioning as an aid.
Melanoma in some parts of the body, such as the fingers, toes and scalp, are difficult to image, and AI may have difficulty recognising “atypical” lesions or ones that patients themselves are unaware of.
“Currently, there is no substitute for a thorough clinical examination,” experts Victoria Mar from Monash University in Melbourne and Peter Soyer of the University of Queensland wrote in an editorial published with the study.
In the world of entertainment, scandals and catfights are a common scenario. However, when a video emerges of the industry’s best in a sticky situation, then it is bound to get viral in no time!
When it comes to such controversies, our Pakistani media industry certainly has its fair share of them.
A recent video of Pakistani supermodels involved in a battle of words has hit the internet and people cannot stop laughing over it.
This catfight has received mixed reactions on social media!
While some are seen supporting the models, others can’t help but post savage comments about this “friendly” duo.
However, this video was all an act put together by Sadaf and Amna! The two were seen laughing at the end, clearly ending any discussion about any animosity between the two.
In a world of stiff competition and excessive drive to succeed, it’s heartwarming to see two people from the same industry getting along like a house on fire!

Maula Jatt 2 has been in the news ever since Bilal Lashari announced the reboot of the golden Lollywood saga.
Boasting the creme de la creme of Pakistan’s entertainment sphere, the cult classic is bound to be a blockbuster with our favorite squad of Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi and Humaima Malick.
While giving an interview at an Iftar charity dinner hosted by Shahid Afridi Foundation in Manchester, Hamza spilled the beans about the possible release date of the Punjabi flick.
We can’t help but rejoice to know that MJ’s release is sooner than we expected:
“Maula Jutt is coming out end of this year or beginning of next year”
Trolling his BFF Mahira Khan, Abbasi added:
“i must say Mahira Khan will be a revelation or her fans, because Mahira as Mukko That Just doesn’t fit “
Mahira was quick to react to his cheeky statement and we can’t help but LOL at her reply.
Realizing he will be in trouble, Hamza covered up in the most epic way!
Well, we really don’t doubt Hamza Ali Abbasi. Mahira’s character will indeed be a surprise for us all as she has never donned a Punjabi avatar. And we bet she will ace her role like a boss!
Maula Jatt 2 is a high-budget remake that might restore the gandasa genre that ceased to exist in the 90s. For now, we have our fingers crossed for the trailer’s release!
An industry insider claims that Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will have double the internal storage and 8GB of RAM of the current Note model.
Samsung confirmed the existence of a Galaxy Note 9 when Gray G. Lee, Head of the AI Centre Under Samsung Research told The Korea Herald “that the upcoming flagship smartphone model in the second half of the year would feature the advanced Bixby platform,” following the brand’s press conference to announce its vision for AI earlier this month.
Apart from knowing the Galaxy Note 9 and its stylus are on their way, very little has been confirmed. There are however a few rumors, one of which is making big headlines. And by big, we’re talking 512GBs big, with the possibility of more via the microSD slot.
The ‘industry insider’ who goes by the Twitter handle @UniverseIce told his followers on May 26 that “If you are lucky, you will see 8GB RAM and 512GB ROM Galaxy Note 9”.
That’s a notable upgrade from the current options of 64/128/256GB accompanied by 6GB of RAM for last year’s Galaxy Note 8.
Forbes picked up on the rumor from the “ever-mysterious yet consistently accurate” tipster and noted that “the Galaxy Note 9 will retain a microSD slot (compatible with up to 512GB) which means this could be the world’s first mass-market 1TB-capable smartphone.”
Meanwhile, tech blog T3 claims that other expected features could “include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 CPU for the US and an Exynos 9810 in the UK. There should also be a microSD slot capable of taking 2TB cards.”
Presuming some of it’s true and there will be at least a capacity for 1TB, that would mean thousands of mp3s, photos, and videos for users.
T3 also writes “Expect Samsung to launch the Galaxy Note 9 around late August or early September time”, which could make sense as the Note 8 was released that time last year.
Rising to fame with his show ‘Aalim Online’, Aamir Liaquat became the“ratings king” in the country and hence, the king of controversies!
With an established fan base of hundreds of thousands of followers, everything the televangelist does becomes the talk of the town.
And once again he has landed himself in hot water!
It appears that the recent controversy that broke out, has not just violated the regulations of PEMRA but also has hurt the sentiments of his fans.
The incident took place on the sets of his Ramadan transmission on BOL TV, in which he got into a heated religious debate with the scholars on his show.
This time, it seems that the scholar may have gone too far!
Viewers expressed their outrage over the harsh words spoken by the host and went on to social media to rant about it. Eventually, the whole episode caught the attention of not just PEMRA but the officials of a social media network as well.
In a press release, the media-watch served a 30-day ban on Aamir Liaquat, barring him to appear on any TV channel in Pakistan.
PEMRA prohibits Bol News to broadcast or Re-broadcast, programmes titled "Ramzan Main Bol" and "Aisa Nahi Chalay Ga" pic.twitter.com/wG8KInm4Rg
However, this was just the beginning of the troubles for the scholar!
Viewers, outraged over the statements by Aamir Liaquat, reported on his official page on Facebook in which he had over 2 million followers. This led to Facebook permanently deleting his page on the giant platform.
However, his Twitter page is still up and running, with Liaquat continuing to defend his stance.
Old Habits Die Hard
This is not the first time that Aamir Liaquat had to face troubled waters. Known for being one of the boldest hosts on televisions, let’s take a look at all the times he landed himself in the danger zone.
Profane language
In a video leaked in 2011, Aamir was spotted using strong language, making fun of his religious guests and singing indecent songs while talking about various movies.
Showing an entirely different side to the respected scholar, the video sparked a great controversy over his stance on being a religious personality. However, Aamir later claimed that the video was dubbed and was a ploy against him to malign his name.
Free Babies
In 2013, Aamir Liaquat, in his Geo show ‘Aalim Online’ gave away babies for ‘free’ on a live television show.
The babies, rescued by local NGOs, were “handed out” by the host as a Ramadan gift to childless couples.
Apart from the act itself, that there was no proper investigation that took place or any proper paperwork to support this.
Acting Out A Suicide
In yet another incident dated back to 2016, Aamir Liaquat once again found himself in hot water after he was seen encouraging the act of suicide on the show.
PEMRA immediately took note and stated that airing such content is a violation of rules set by the media watchdog.
And The Shenanigans Of Aamir Liaquat Hussain Continues!
Going by the history of the televangelist, one waits with bated breath to see which controversy the scholar will land himself in next.
A Malian migrant who scaled a Paris apartment block to save a four-year-old child was hailed Monday as an “example” by President Emmanuel Macron, who welcomed him to the presidential palace and offered him citizenship.
Two days after his daring rescue — viewed millions of times online — Mamoudou Gassama, nicknamed “Spiderman” by French media for his astonishing climbing ability, met Macron in the splendour of the Elysee Palace.
“You have become an example because millions of people have seen you. It is only right that the nation be grateful,” Macron told the 22-year-old, adding that his immigration status would be “put in order”.
The Guardian
However several aid groups accused the president of “political exploitation”, “hypocrisy” and covering up a harsh policy towards migrants.
Macron, who presented him with a medal for bravery, also offered him a job with the fire service.
“I did not think twice. I went straight up,” said the sporty youth, who wore jeans and a short-sleeved shirt to the encounter, explaining his climb.
Gassama was also congratulated by Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, who phoned him at the Paris embassy to congratulate him “for honouring all of Mali,” the embassy said.
His act of heroism comes as lawmakers debate a controversial bill that would speed up the deportation of economic migrants and failed asylum-seekers, thousands of whom live in squalid camps in the capital.
“There’s a general feeling of shameful political exploitation,” said Jean-Claude Mas, secretary general of La Cimade, which defends migrants.
“It raises a lot of questions when you know what this government is doing.”
“There’s a bit of hypocrisy or cynicism,” added Claire Rodier of GISTI which supports immigrants, noting “the contrast with the repressive policy of this government against migrants and those without documents.”
Gassama has been living illegally in France and working in construction since arriving in September last year following a perilous journey from his homeland to Libya then Italy.
Macron, a centrist, has taken a tough line on economic migrants fleeing poverty rather than refugees escaping war or persecution.
But Gassama’s “exceptional act of heroism” warranted an “exceptional decision”, he said Monday.
He leaped into action Saturday evening on seeing the child dangling from the fourth-story balcony of an apartment in the 18th district.
The video shows Gassama swiftly pulling himself up from balcony to balcony to reach the boy, to the cheers of onlookers.
Firefighters arrived at the scene to find the child, whose parents were not at home, had already been rescued.
A shy figure who was accompanied to the Elysee Palace by his older brother, Gassama said he had acted instinctively.
https://youtu.be/cBCurldzXBk
– ‘Incredibly brave act’ –
“I saved the child and then went inside the building and I was shaking,” he told Macron.
Reacting to his awards he said later: “I’m pleased because it’s the first time I’ve received a trophy like that.”
Gassama’s story instantly drew comparisons with that of another Malian migrant who was feted as a hero and given citizenship for helping save lives during a January 2015 terror attack.
Lassana Bathily helped hide hostages in the freezer during a jihadist attack on a Jewish supermarket in Paris, in which four people were killed.
Confirming to Gassama his French citizenship, Macron said: “Even if you did not think about what you were doing it was an act of courage and strength that won the admiration of all.”
But in a warning to other African migrants he said he “can not give (papers) to all those who come from Mali or Burkina Faso” — two of the countries from where thousands set out each year for Europe on a perilous journey across the desert and Mediterranean Sea.
Across the political class Gassama received plaudits.
But a senior member of the anti-immigration National Front, Nicolas Bay, said that while he supported Gassama becoming French all other illegal migrants should be deported.
– Dreams of a better life –
Passers-by raised the alarm Saturday on noticing the little boy hanging in mid-air.
“Luckily, there was someone who was physically fit and who had the courage to go and get the child,” a fire service spokesman said.
The boy’s father, who was reportedly out shopping, was arrested for leaving him unattended. His mother was abroad.
The Socialist mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, was among the politicians lining up to phone Gassama to thank him.
“He explained to me that he had arrived from Mali a few months ago dreaming of building his life here,” she said.
On Monday, he was made an honorary citizen of the eastern suburb of Montreuil, where he had been sleeping on the floor in a cramped room shared with relatives at a migrant hostel.
The fire department said it looked forward to him joining the ranks.
If you thought Samsung had a tough time with their Galaxy Note 7, Apple has it even worse with their iPhone X!
Asides having a number of software issues, the device is also facing hardware trouble as well. Recently, a large number of iPhone X Smartphone owners reported a problem with the camera lens.
The exterior phone glass which protects the camera is cracking for absolutely no reason! Although this often happens when an individual accidentally drops their phone, many iPhone X owners claimed they’ve never once dropped the device.
The individuals took it to Apple’s support forum (1, 2, 3, 4) and Reddit (1, 2, 3) to express their concern.
As noted in a users comment;
“I read some people have this issue in cold climate, I live in Malaysia and weather is hot and humid around 32-36 Celsius daily.. andwe don’t have apple store in Malaysia here, so can not count on authorized centers, but refuse for repair.”
While another read;
“It (sapphire crystal) transmits less light which…means either dimmer devices or shorter battery life. It continues to break. I think while it’s a scratch resistant product it still breaks and our testing says that Gorilla Glass [can take] about 2.5 times more pressure that [sapphire] can take…”
Has your iPhone X faced the same issue?

Pakistan has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate in the Lord’s Test against England, which the visitors won by nine wickets on Sunday to go one-up in the two-Test series. Jeff Crowe of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees imposed the fine after Sarfraz Ahmed’s side was ruled to be three overs short of their target when time allowances* were taken into consideration**.
In accordance with Article 2.5.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Players Support Personnel, which relates to minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 percent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.
As such, Sarfraz has been fined 60 percent of his match fee, while his players have received 30 percent fines. If Pakistan commit another minor over-rate breach in a Test within 12 months of this offence with Sarfraz as captain, it will be deemed a second offence by Sarfraz and he will face a suspension.
Sarfraz pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.
The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Rod Tucker, third umpire Bruce Oxenford and fourth umpire Rob Bailey.
