Whenever you purchase a new car, the manufacturer always provides you with a manual. That manual is beneficial to understand the features of the vehicle. Similarly, it also explains all the symbols you see on the dashboard.
However, when you are driving, you’ll notice that there’s a symbol that lights up or starts to blink; if it looks like a fuel station, it means you’re low on fuel.
You may think to yourself here that its no biggie, I can simply refuel my car later on in the night, or even tomorrow, and you start driving home or towards your destination.
Yes, you may have some fuel left in the tank, but did you know that driving on low power is killing your car’s lifespan?
Shocking right! Here are five reasons why you shouldn’t drive your car on low fuel!
5 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Drive Your Car On Low Fuel!
1. Costly Engine Repairs
This depends on your luck; at times, running on very little to no fuel causes the vehicle to breakdown. This can cause a lot of damage to your engine as well as other parts of the car. The bill can be small, but it can also be MASSIVE if you need a complete engine replacement.
2. Fuel Gauges Are Not Exact
PC: Fantastic
Never completely trust the fuel gauge, it will inform you when you are low on fuel, but you never know how you are. Hence, either find the nearest gas station and re-fill the tank or park on the side (somewhere safe) and take a ride in a rickshaw to buy fuel. You don’t want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere!
3. Each Car Has A Different Range
Just because your last car was nice enough to take you far enough on low fuel doesn’t mean that your current vehicle will get you through the same. Each vehicle has a different range; if ‘X’ can take you 1KM, then ‘Y’ may take you half of that.
4. Air In Engine
PC: Indian Auto Blog
When the tank is low on fuel, it creates enough space for air to be pumped. This air causes trouble for the fuel pump to work efficiently and for other components that are required for proper fuel circulation.
5. Can Create Panic
Sometimes, new drivers who are new and are shy behind the vehicle easily panic. If the fuel is low, they will start to feel the anxiety, which may end up in them or someone else getting hurt. It is always wise to check the fuel level before leaving, and if you do not have the time, keep a spare bottle in the car.
Kinnaird College, a well-known ‘women’s’ liberal arts educational institution in Lahore, recently articulated a job ad looking for motivated and dedicated individuals for various teaching and non-teaching (administrative staff) positions. The notification has, however, offended many. Want to know why? Read ahead!
About Kinnaird College
Kinnaird College was founded in the early 20th century by the Zenana Bible and Medical Mission (now known as the International Service Fellowship or simply Interserve). Named after the co-founder of Young Women’s Christian Association, Lady Mary Jane Kinnaird (who’s also a bright philanthropist), initially aimed to empower Punjabi Christian women by providing them the opportunity to emerge as professionally qualified teachers.
However, after partition, Kinnaird college (the student body was now predominantly Muslim majority) expanded its domain. It started offering courses related to science, nursing, social work, etc. to encourage higher education among women. By 2002, it was permitted to award government degrees to the graduates, and the Association of Kinnaird College assumed the administration.
Kinnaird college has progressed at an unprecedented rate ever since and has blessed the world with its notable alumni that include the legendary author Bano Qudsia, the exceptional English novelist Bapsi Sidhwa and the famous singer and songwriter Hadiqa Kiani, among others.
Is Kinnaird College still on track?
Having done so much for women empowerment and women education initially, the recent turn of events has angered the masses to the core.
According to Kinnaird College’s recent job ad, the institute is looking for “Male Only” IT and Administration Managers and HR Officers and also has a vacancy for a “Female Only” Office Assistant. People are infuriated at the patriarchal mindset that the job ad manifests, that too, coming from a well-reputed “women’s college.” The ad is hugely problematic and highly questionable without any doubt.
Netizens Call-Out Kinnaird’s Administration For Reinforcing Stereotypes
People have started pouring out their anger and frustration on Twitter, questioning what exactly makes the administration of the institute think that women are inept for the posts reserved for male candidates only, as per their ad.
Have a look at it yourself:
You know what is exhausting? THIS! Fact that there are institutes like #KinnairdCollege who missed the memo that this is #2020 & women can serve on all posts they have specified for ONLY MALE candidates! To think this is a college from where so many pioneering women passed out. pic.twitter.com/gZsliFoYNp
What’s this #KinnairdCollege. You seriously think there aren’t any qualified women for these posts? Or is it that they’re so good & in demand they’ll never consider working with you. It’s very much the latter & that means that you need to become a more attractive employer https://t.co/aL6CS9tDfY
Are the current stakeholders following the footsteps of Kinnaird’s founders?
It’s a lot more disappointing than surprising that a “women’s” college that was initially established to empower and educate women has, even though maintained a commendable alumni record, is now at the mercy of a patriarchal and misogynist administration.
Will Kinnaird’s administration look over the havoc that their discriminatory job ad has created? What do you think? Let us know in the comment section below!

While until a few months ago, the world was close to tumbling under the pressure of social and economic tragedies the COVID-19 outbreak had brought upon it, we have now in the last few weeks witnessed a thankful surge in economic activity, as businesses are beginning to emerge once more from the slump and getting acquainted with the ‘new normal’. Air travel is slowly picking up pace, offices have opened up while keeping all the necessary precautions under consideration, and people are once again becoming comfortable booking an Uber ride, albeit with a mask on, for commute.
Uber being the market leader in the global ride-hailing industry had seen a similar decline in the demand for rides as a consequence of global lockdown measures and the call for social distancing. The brand however, has throughout the pandemic managed to reiterate a consistent message of safety and innovation, and a need to put its riders and partner drivers first, with a $50 million global investment on safety initiatives.
During the earlier stages, when the infection transmission rate had been exponentially high in Pakistan, the global brand had integrated its resources and expertise to venture into two different avenues that were newly in demand: Uber Delivery and Uber Medics. At a time when most people were stuck indoors on account of social distancing, the option to get groceries and other essential items delivered to your doorstep via Uber Delivery came as a big help.
Similarly, Uber Medics gave much-needed respite to healthcare and frontline workers with the free rides offered to them to and from their workplaces during the lockdown. Uber by the Hour was also introduced around this time, which gives its riders the option to book their Uber ride on an hourly basis, if they wish to make multiple stops on their way, bringing them convenience as well as safety, since the riders wouldn’t then have to book a new ride after every stop or get further exposed to foreign bodies.
Partnership with Unilever
As a part of its global #MoveWithSafety initiative, Uber went into partnership with the multinational FMCG giant Unilever, to provide 20,000 hygiene kits to its partner drivers in Pakistan. In addition to this, Uber distributed over 300,000 masks to the drivers, and has set up pick up centers for drivers across Karachi, Islamabad, and Lahore, from where they can easily have access to hygiene and sanitation products for their vehicles.
Furthermore, Uber has also introduced in-car separators, which it will be installing in the cars that are the most active on Uber’s platform, in order to provide additional protection to riders as well as the partner drivers.
Here is a list of some impressive measures Uber took under its #MoveWithSafety campaign, to ensure safety for its riders as well as partner drivers, to help limit the possibility of spread of the virus:
In-app Safety Checklist: The ride-hailing company upgraded Uber’s mobile app with a new object recognition technology that is able to verify whether the driver has a mask on or not. In case of the absence of a mask, the safety checklist fails to conclude and the driver is unable to go online on the app. The checklist also asks the drivers to make sure they are regularly sanitizing their vehicles and have hand sanitizers available for use.
Monetary Assistance: Uber has always been committed to its partner drivers and keeps their needs on top priority. The brand offers financial compensation for 14 days to any driver who has been suffering from COVID-19 or is in self-isolation and hence, unable to take on rides.
No-Penalty on Ride Cancellation: In case a particular rider hailing an Uber tries to sit in it without wearing a mask, the Uber partner driver has full authority to cancel the ride, without incurring any cancellation fee. Vice versa holds true as well, in case the driver is the one without a mask on.
Limitation on the Number of Riders: As per the government’s directives, only two riders per car are allowed in Sindh and Peshawar, while the limit is up to three passengers in Punjab and Islamabad.
Reimbursement for PPEs: Uber has so far distributed over 20,000 masks to its partner drivers across Pakistan, along with regular reimbursements to them for the purchase of gloves, masks, sanitizing materials and other personal protective equipment.
Health and Hygiene Feedback: Riders and drivers both can now be flagged on the app via a new health and hygiene feedback system, in case they violate the set safety protocols, like wearing a mask. Anyone who repeatedly receives negative feedback can be blocked from the app and would not be able to access Uber’s services.
Safety Awareness: Safety tips, health advice and updated information from the World Health Organization have been compiled into safety education resources that are shared with the riders and drivers both, to spread awareness on how to tackle and prevent COVID-19 transmission.
Indeed, there are many people in the country who are still suffering from the Coronavirus, and the deadly pandemic is far from being over – the world is still, however, getting back onto its feet once again, with certain precautions in tow, and in such difficult situations, it’s heartening to find such safety measures being implemented by industry giants like Uber.
We will get right to it because gaming waits for no one, or does it? Well, Sony did make us wait straight seven years after releasing PS4 in 2013. So maybe PlayStation is the exception. Now, thankfully Sony is releasing PS5, which has everyone excited. But while we are happy to see PS5, is it the right time for gamers to upgrade.
Specs Specs Specs
Now, this does not mean that PS5 is for only gamers. And that us the best part. The PS5 console allows you to use it for more than that. You can dance, you can sing, and you can do much more at a premium level. How can we say that? Because we are looking at the specs. If you have the PS4 with you and are looking to upgrade it, compare the specs.
First of all, PS5 looks like it has a much faster console, and the processor and the graphic engine is twice as powerful as PS4. Since it uses a solid-state drive (SSD) compared to the hard drive in PS4, the speed of operations will get 100 times faster.
You professional gamers can see for your self what PS5 is providing that PS4 did not.
PS4
CPU: 8-core AMD x86-64 Jaguar 1.6 GHz CPU
GPU: Custom AMD GCN Radeon integrated into APU; clocked at 800MHz
RAM: 8GB GDDR5
Frame rate: Up to 60fps
Resolution: Up to 1080p HD
Optical: Blu-ray drive
Storage: 500GB HDD (plus expandable storage)
PS5
CPU: AMD Zen 2-based CPU with 8 cores at 3.5GHz (variable frequency)
GPU: 10.28 TFLOPs, 36 CUs at 2.23GHz (variable frequency)
RAM: 16GB GDDR6
Frame rate: Up to 120fps
Resolution: Up to 8K
Optical: 4K UHD Blu-ray drive
Storage: Custom 825GB SSD (plus expandable storage)

GAMING!
And the most crucial bit is the gaming part. PS4 is known for some blockbuster games such as Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, Until Dawn, God of War, and many more. But they are also available on PS5, so there is that. Meanwhile, PS5 offers a massive list of games that have recently been announced concerning PS5. Confirmed games that will be part of PS5 are Astro’s Playroom, Hogwarts’ Legacy, Destruction: All-Stars, Dying Light 2, Ghostwire: Tokyo, Little Devil Inside, Pragmata, Resident Evil VII: Village, among many others.
But here, my friends is the highlight. Sony will be launching the digital version of PS5 sometime later. As expected, the digital version will cost lesser compared to the regular PS5. So instead of PS% familiar, you can choose to get the digital version. Also, prices for PlayStation decrease over time. For instance, now that PS5 is available, the rate for PS4 and PS4 Pro will go way down. So if you can wait for a little before you upgrade, maybe you can get PS5 at a lower price.

Hypnosis intrigues mostly everyone. It sparks debates as to whether it is real or not. Now until and unless one sees it their own eyes, people might not believe it. Even a group of psychologists reject the idea. But what if we were to tell you that it is real and that you can get hypnotized without realizing it.
Below are four ways to hypnotize or be hypnotized by, so see if you recognize any one of them.
1. Conversational Hypnosis
What happens in conversational Hypnosis is that you curate conversations. According to that, you will be conversing to plant ideas in the other person’s mind, but they will think it is their thought process. The way to go about it is that you present the picture as a suggestion when the listener is focussed on something else. Your request will go straight to the person’s unconscious mind.
2. Zeigarnik Effect
This effect deals with the complete/incomplete product. So apparently, an ordinary person tends to remember unfinished tasks and forget the completed ones. If you want someone hypnotized (read: if you want your sister to make tea for you without much drama), tell them a story. Do not complete it. And in the middle of the information, give them the task. You will notice that they will follow it without any second thoughts.

3. Ambiguity is the Go-To here
Hypnosis is all about getting access to the subconscious or the unconscious mind. One way to get there is by saying ambiguous phrases, phrases whose meanings are not self-evident. What happens then is that the listener’s attention is entirely towards understanding the importance of those phrases. At that moment, you have a clear pathway to the unconscious mind to plant any thoughts you like.
4. Pattern Pattern Everywhere
So we like patterns. We do stuff in ways, and we observe the practice in others as well. For instance, you meet someone every day at noon. When you enter their room, you kick a chair. Every single time!
Then one day, break that pattern. You enter their room, and you don’t kick the chair. Their mind will be confused for at least 5 seconds. That is the time frame you have to place the command in their head.
Hypnosis does not have to happen on the psychologists’ couch with a pendulum swinging left and right. Sometimes it’s just these little things that can easily hypnotize you. So tell us, did any such something happen to you?

Home is Home
Jafry, the YouTuber with 2.5 million followers, has just announced that he’s moving back home. And home, for him, is none other than Lahore. Yes, you might be bumping into him next time you’re at any restaurant.
When asked about the difficult decision to leave life abroad, he responded with, “it was my dream.” As a YouTuber, you’re always on set and recording, shooting, so in Lahore in this sweltering heat can be difficult, but the star is also resilient. He responded by saying, “the bigger the dream, the more the hurdles!”.
Check Out His Interview Here:
Is Home Conducive To Growth?
Pakistan is currently experiencing the worst brain drain ever. Most of the youth either go abroad for higher studies and builds a life there, or they emigrate for employment. Why? Simply because our work sector is not conducive for the growth we want to achieve today.
As a blogger, for instance, you can count the number of big brands on one hand that you can collaborate with once you become successful. However, if you’re abroad, even the sky is not the limit.
As a YouTuber, there is no doubt that the affiliations and sponsorships Shahveer can get internationally will not be available from the heart of the home. However, the house is where the heart is, and Shahveer Jafry’s heart is set in Lahore.

Content Moderation?
YouTube recently landed in hot waters, officially, as some High Court judges expressed their desire to get the app banned. As a country too, it seemed like in the past few weeks that we were moving towards extremist content moderation. What hurdles will YouTubers like Jafry will be facing?
Moreover, content moderation need not always be from the legal and what is not. We must also address the fact that Shahveer Jafry and the likes of him have produced content that can be problematic on various fronts. Subtle sexist jokes, misogyny, or insensitive remarks can go a long way in normalizing things that are better when criticized. Here’s to hoping home inspires Shahveer to make better content!

Beaconhouse National University (BNU) is among the top art universities in Pakistan. So please pay attention, for we are about to discuss the BNU admissions process. And you might need to take notes. Because if you forget, you might lose the chance to study at the same university you aspire to get into.
Educational Requirement
Firstly, take note of the educational requirements you need to fulfill. So for FA/FSc candidates, they need to clear their exam with at least 2nd division. The second division amounts to 495 marks.
If you belong to the Cambridge board background, the requirement is, obviously, a little different. If you have done O-levels from abroad, then you need to have cleared six subjects. If you did O-levels locally, then you need to have done it in 8 subjects. Both categories should have three complete A-levels. AS-level grades will not be accommodated.
Students with High School Diploma and International Baccalaureate can apply if they have at least 2.5 CGPA. All except FA/FSc graduates need IBCC equivalence.
Narrowing it Down
Okay, so the general requirement for BNU is all set. Now, if you want to get into BSc (Hons.) in Software Engineering or BSc (Hons.) Computer Science (CS), you should have at least 50% marks in Intermediate. You should have maths as a subject. If you did intermediate in the pre-medical group, then you will have to take a six-credit hours mathematics course in your first year at the university.
BBA applicants need 55% in FA/FSc or its equivalents.
B.Sc (Hons) Economics applicants require 50% in FA / F.Sc or equivalent.
Applicants for all programs have to give the aptitude test and appear for the interview.
If you have not yet received your result for FSC/FA/A-levels, don’t worry. You can still apply. And if you make it through, you will get provisional admission. Once you submit everything, then your entry will get regularized.
The Most Important Bit
The breakup on which the admission is gauged will help you organize yourself accordingly. It goes like this:
Admission Test & Interview: 25*
O-Levels / Matriculation: 30
A-Levels / Intermediate: 45
These three components constitute a total of 100 marks.
* Note that the Dean/Director can decide the ratio of test to interview.
If you want to figure out where you stand about your result, you can follow the below-given formulae for O-Levels / Matriculation and A-Levels / Intermediate, respectively.
(Marks Obtained)/(Total Marks)* 30
(Marks Obtained)/(Total Marks)* 45
GIF Source: Gfycat
Keep documents in order, and the university will call you for the test. Keep in mind that the test is critical, so is the interview. Regardless of how perfect your profile is, even without the difficulty, if you skip out on that, you will be removed from the candidate list.

Gone are the days when the mindset of ‘a girl’s rightful place is in the kitchen’ existed.
Nowadays, women have shown that they are as equally qualified for anything as their opposite gender is.
Be it as a chef, police, or even a CEO, women worldwide have come a long way. But, this marvelous achievement is not only the female gender’s as males have also contributed to the roles of fathers, brothers, and teachers.
One such amazing father is Karachi’s Naseeb Jamal, who owns an electrical shop in Qasba Colony. Jamal is a proud father of 8 daughters. In a country where the concept of female electricians doesn’t exist, Jamal has taught his daughters a useful trait.
PC TwitterAccording to him, it doesn’t matter what the gender of your children may be, as long as you teach them the skills needed to help survive in this world. The father, in the viral video clip, also appealed to parents to trust their girls and support them.
He said that women play a vital role in society, and parents should give them proper education and useful skills.
It has been almost 16 years that my daughters have been working with me. I have eight daughters and a son. Four of my daughters are married, while two stay at home and the other two come to work with me. – Naseeb Jamal
In the video clip, the father also shares his journey, adding that not everyone was rooting for him. He shares that many people advised him not to teach his daughters such skills and keep them at home, but that did not stop him.
Even his very own mother was against his motives!
People would gossip, calling me a rebel. Even my mother used to question my decision. She would say that what I was doing was not in line with our traditions. Also that it does not seem good for girls to sit at the shop, said Jamal.
Listening from one year and taking the criticism out the other, today, Jamal has trained 6 of his girls in these skills!
This is the way to strengthen women. They should not just be educated, but skilled as well. If they are skilled, they would bring more pride to their parents than any son.
As time passed, his relatives and the neighbors have learned how to respect his decision to involve his daughters in this profession. Jamal wishes to establish a training center where he can impart his skills to girls for free. While adding that he was determined to get his daughters educated, he said, “It is another dream they study engineering.”
Although with his very little earning, he is not able to do much, he says that the respect he deserves is enough for him to live his life with his head held high.
Dawlance, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Arçelik Turkey – the 2nd largest home appliances manufacturing company in Europe, has stepped up to help Pakistan during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic by donating ten life-saving Respiratory Ventilators, through its subsidiary Dawlance, to significant hospitals in Pakistan.
In April, Arçelik revealed it had joined forces with BioSys, defense firm Aselsan and aviation company Baykar Technologies to produce mechanical ventilators, in a collective effort led by the Turkish Ministry of Industry and Commerce the Ministry of Health.
A team of 120 engineers used rapid prototyping facilities at Arçelik Garage, an open innovation center in Istanbul, to design and test the initial prototype in just two weeks. By June, 5,000 devices had been manufactured at its Çerkezköy electronics on a not-for-profit basis to meet domestic and international demand.
The ventilators were made to meet domestic and international demands while the brand decided to donate 50 ventilators to help countries battling pandemic. Under these donations, ten ventilators were presented by Arçelik to Dawlance to help major hospitals in Pakistan. The grant was distributed as; two vents to the NDMA COVID Hospital in Islamabad, two vents each to the Indus Hospital, Karachi, Sindh Institute of Urology & Transplant (SIUT), Karachi, and Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital while one at Dow Hospital (Ojha Campus), Karachi and one to the Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar.
In efforts to serve the people of Pakistan, over the past few months, Dawlance itself has donated a large number of valuable refrigerators, deep freezers, air-conditioners, self-produced incubation-chamber, and PPE’s microwave-ovens and other appliances to medical-care institutions all around Pakistan. This was to enhance the hospitals’ capacity to deliver better care to the patients in Pakistan.
The donations by Dawlance in these challenging economic situations have equipped the doctors and para-medical staff working on the frontline against the virus so that they are enabled to save more lives during this public-health crisis while protecting themselves with the help of PPEs and self-incubation chambers. This pledge of ventilators by Arcelik and Dawlance is a testimony that Pakistan and Turkey hold strong bilateral relations, which can be observed.
The Chief Executive Officer of Dawlance – Umar Ahsan Khan, shared his gratitude by saying, “It is a pleasure to acknowledge that these advanced ventilators produced at the Arçelik factory in Turkey have been received Dawlance, to be donated to the leading healthcare institutions of Pakistan. This kind gesture by Arcelik signifies the strong bilateral relationship between Turkey and Pakistan. The robust collaboration and sharing of innovative technologies between Dawlance and Arcelik will continue to bring significant benefits for the nation, while further strengthening the bonds between Pakistan and Turkey.
Considering the need for enrichment in the healthcare infrastructure of Pakistan, Dawlance-Arcelik believes that it is inspiring the creative corporate sector to contribute generously, to minimize the socio-economic impact of this disease. Pandemics like COVID19 require collective efforts rather than an individual for a sustainable future for which Dawlance and Arçelik have set the right direction.

As an attempt to revamp the city and raise traffic awareness among citizens, Metropolitan Corporate Lahore has introduced Pakistan’s first-ever 3D Zebra Crossing in Lahore.
Pakistan’s First-Ever 3D Zebra Crossing
Reportedly, the 3D Zebra Crossing has been installed on Mall Road – the heart of the metropolis. Mall Road in Lahore has a substantial cultural and historical value to it. It also features several architectural structures from the Mughal and colonial era.
According to Lahore Commissioner, Mr. Zulfiqar Ahmed Ghuman, around twenty 3D Zebra Crossings will be installed across the city, prompting travelers to remain vigilant and abide by the traffic rules and regulations.

Aren’t these 3D Zebra Crossings adorable?
3D Zebra Crossings Have Been Effective All Across The World
Beautifying the roads of the provincial capital and attempting to increase traffic mindfulness among both the pedestrians and the motorists or drivers, the development of the three-dimensional zebra crossing aligns with the international standards, as per reports, making the drivers more vigilant and attentive.
Source: Dawn
3D Zebra Crossings have remained extremely useful all across the world, be it in China, Thailand, Iceland, UK or in the United States, as they attract pedestrians, compelling them to use the zebra crossings and simultaneously induce attentiveness among those driving on the roads, curtailing the risk of road accidents to some extent if not entirely.
Traffic Offenses Have Hit A New High In Pakistan
It’s pretty unfortunate that we take our lives for granted and prefer staying in our comfort zone rather than observing the traffic laws that are put into effect for our safety, essentially. Traffic offenses and violations of the traffic code resulting in pedestrian fatalities have escalated immensely over the last few years in Pakistan.
The authorities are playing their role in encouraging inhabitants to follow traffic guidelines thoroughly. However, it’s about time we too start following street/road rules religiously. We too need to take up some responsibility for our safety and stop blaming the government or the authorities for literally anything and everything.
Will the introduction of 3D Zebra Crossings in Pakistan prove to be effective enough in urging travelers to follow traffic rules and regulations? Will the installation of 3D Zebra Crossings be as productive in ensuring road safety as it has been in other countries around the globe? What do you think? Let us know in the comment section below!

For many individuals, having their car is not about privilege or luxury but a necessity. Office-going individuals or those who have to travel long distances for meetings and work can’t function without a car.
Hence, imagine the trouble car owners go through when their car’s lifespan comes to an end either naturally or un-naturally without a backup plan! Before your ride comes to the end of the road, it gives many indications that its time is up.
As a driver or owner, it is up to you to understand these signs and find a quick replacement for your car. You can either sell it for a few bucks, get it exchanged, or sell its scrap parts for money.
Here are three signs to know it’s the right time to replace your car!
3 Signs To Know It’s The Right Time To Replace Your Car!
1. When Maintenance Costs More Than Your Car’s Worth
Once your car become expensive, even more than its value, you’ll automatically figure it out that it’s time to buy a new one. Your car is like a phone; if you use a feature phone, you’ll have fewer features than a smartphone, pocket-friendly repairs, and it does the same task.
However, it then starts to get outdated; it slows down, you start having a lot of trouble; the battery is not found anymore, so on so forth. Hence, staying updated isn’t a bad idea as long as you have used it to its full potential.
Above I have you an example of how an old car is like a feature phone, and a new one is somewhat like a smartphone. One of the things we all love about the smartphone is security. No one can access or unlock your phone without a fingerprint, face scan, etc. (unless they’re a hacker!). However, a feature phone’s security is not as strong and is vulnerable.
Similarly, an old car does not have as many features nor the latest equipment as a new one. However, cars are equipped with standard safety features such as seatbelts, airbags, ABS, etc. More modern vehicles are equipped with many new safety features such as sensors that help cars stop/slow down when they sense that it will have a collision.
3. When You’ve Just About Had Enough!
I understand you have some pretty great memories in your car. Going to work on the first day, coming home with a gorgeous bride, or even welcoming a new family member. But sometimes, even you know when it’s time to let go and consider an upgrade.
Which signs influence you to buy a new vehicle? Share them with us.

Lake Saif ul Malook‘s legend has a prince in pursuit of a fairy. He finds the fairies bathing in the lake. To possess one of them, he steals a fairy’s crown, and now, she can’t return to her world. For someone well versed in folktales of different cultures would immediately connect it to the Korean one with the name ‘Mama Fairy and the woodcutter’.
Similarities in Korean FolkTales
The story goes somewhat like that a woodcutter finds out about a lake where fairies come to bathe. The fairies leave their winged clothes on the bank. He hides one of them. That particular fairy is now unable to return. And they get married.
Exploring the Korean version a little further, we find out that after many years the woodcutter confesses to what he did. The fairy gets nostalgic and leaves for her world. The woodcutter wants to follow suit. He finds some beans which grow up to the sky. Jack and the beanstalks, anyone?
Looking at South Asian Folklores
And this led me to wonder; somehow, almost all a particular culture’s folktales are found in another culture, or at least some rendition of them. I mean, take Heer Ranjha, for example. Heer Ranjha, Punjabi folklore that talks about two lovers who cannot unite due to parental disagreement. Events unfold in a way that they die.
Now, keep in mind that this a South Asian folklore—an almost similar story we can find in Arab culture, Laila Majnun. Due to parents not agreeing to it, Laila and her lover Qays get separated. And eventually, die. Remember, Romeo and Juliet?
So Local?
The point is, these stories are found almost in every culture. What I am trying to say here basically is that were there a Laila, a Heer, and Juliet? Or is it that one lore, one legend, and then as it spread through oral tradition, each culture appropriated the story according to their geography, culture, and history.
Does that not imply that the ‘local’ folktales are not local? Instead, they have global origins. Or maybe that is not the right word towards what I am indicating. My thoughts are that these folklores just do not belong to any particular culture. It was not that Prince Saif of Egypt met the fairy Badi-ul-Jamal in northern Pakistan or a woodcutter met the fairy in Korea. Instead, someone somewhere at some point in time told the story of a man and a fairy falling in love at a lake. And that story went globally local or GLOCAL.

The recent unfortunate motorway incident has repurchased countless other such experiences to the mind, made everyone uncomfortable, and question female security. The hashtags, the demands for justice, the unfriendly comments have all had me think about the root causes of such incidents.
It has made me question the core values we teach our children and drawn me to the conclusion that while we cannot continuously hover over and protect our children, we can empower them. Beyond the hashtags, beyond the protests and state responsibilities are a few baby steps to foster a more friendly society for both girls and boys.
Stop with the boys can, and girls can’t attitude
Being a mother of both a girl and a boy, I strongly condemn this attitude. It doesn’t allow one to work towards a more equitable society. Alarm bells ring through my head when I witness young mothers proudly exclaiming that their infant will be a heartthrob one day, and of course, he’ll be out late because boys are entitled to do so. Boys aren’t born disrespecting women; it’s’s attitudes like this that encourage them to veer towards it.
Don’t teach your boy that it is acceptable for him to be aggressive if you feel that the same would not be adequate for your daughter. If you have to worry about your daughter being home at a particular time, don’t allow your boys to stay out late, either. If you only have sons, think about the limitations you faced as a girl. You have the power to teach them respect for women by grooming them differently; don’t waste it.
Listen and honor opinions
Children have a great deal to teach us if only we would listen. Actively encourage them to express their opinion and be prepared to honor it even if it differs from yours. This will go a long way in building trust and open communication as they grow older. But, if you disregard their thoughts today, the chances are that they are likely to confide you when they feel troubled later.
It begins with simple things like the colors they would like to see in their room or the clothes they want to wear on a particular day. Opportunities manifest themselves everywhere. For example, if they are uncomfortable only a specific structure of play at the park, then don’t keep on pushing them to go further frequently. Their fears and inhibitions are different from yours.
Build confidence at home
Before your child steps outside, ensure that he or she is confident at home. Let them sit alone for some time, as you observe from a distance. This allows them to explore and gain confidence alone, deciding for themselves if they are ready to walk or still want to crawl. Older children should be familiar with the standard processes of the home, aware of danger zones and comfort zones.
Other confidence-building activities range from participating in daily chores to having their artwork hung in a public area of the house rather than their room. Both of these inculcate a feeling of being on par with other family members. Talking to strangers and socialization is all a part of it, but gaining an equal footing at home is integral to building confidence from the ground up.
Set and respect boundaries
Privacy is an inherent human instinct as profoundly rooted as embarrassment and shame—unfortunately, it emphasizes the latter rather than respecting and setting boundaries around the body or mind. A reason why victim shaming is so prevalent is because of this whole idea of shame rather than limitations. An alternative to the drone of “shame, shame” every time they display reluctance to get dressed is teaching your child privacy and respecting their body at an early age. Remember that they will only be able to appreciate someone else’s privacy when they have an understanding of their own.
Educating your child about privacy begins right when the diaper changes and potty-training are occurring. Whether its bath time or modification time, limit the helpers to one or two people at most. Ideally, don’t change them in front of other children. This teaches them boundaries without much effort. Potty-training children build confidence by slowly letting them sit in the bathroom alone while somebody waits outside. This builds trust, confidence, and an understanding of the bathroom time is private time.
Use social media responsibly
Parents today are far more in tune with the world as it updates than a generation ago. Therefore, parents, they are tasked with enjoying social media and using it wisely. There is nothing wrong with uploading your child’s photo on your private profile if you are comfortable since the audience is limited to your approval. Arguably there is nothing wrong with uploading their picture on a public profile either again. It depends on your comfort level and the critical question: who will view it, and where will it end up? Will your child be offended by this at any point?
Quite apart from the world of Facebook and Instagram is Whatsapp and the family group. This is probably the place where photos that many of us don’t want to share publically end up. It’s been an unfiltered world, and people share it because it’s a family group. Before you share any photos of your child on any platform, including the family group, ask yourself if this were your photo? But, revaluate sharing more than the first bath video.
This is no longer the world of hardbound albums where photos can be destroyed if they hurt sentiments. These photos are permanent in an unfortunate manner, and when we share them with our children a few years later, we set standards of appropriateness in both photography and content that can be shared.
