During this pandemic, we went into lockdowns, social isolations, or work-from-home. There was one thing common amongst the people worldwide trying to cope with the spread of the pandemic. And that was to catch up on movies or go onto TV show marathons. There is nothing better than a Brooklyn 99 or Friends re-marathon. But what was the Pakistani audience watching or thinking to watch? Google has prepared a list for that.
As PM Imran Khan had indicated the whole of Pakistan to watch a particular Turkish show, most of the population was definitely going to watch it. So unsurprisingly, Ertugrul was on top of the list for the top ten trending Movies and TV shows of 2020.
Moreover, a Pakistani show that started in August last year and had its final episode in the first month of 2020 was the 2nd most trending show in Pakistan for the entire year of 2020. The show was Mere Paas Tum Ho, starring Humayun Saeed and Ayeza Khan. The show had its final episode premiered in cinemas. While that is all amazing, it is certainly interesting to see that even after ten months of it winding up, people were still searching for it. It struck some chords indeed.
Money Heist and Big Boss were also included in the list.
There was a time when people used to spend their free time outside. You get an hour free from a hectic day, you’d go for a walk in the park or at the arcade. The arcade used to be a special place during that time because of how rare its contents were.
Then, when smartphones became more and more common, the world took to social media for the entertainment that was sought outside. In the early years of the 21st century, a communication platform by the name of ‘Facebook’ came out. The genius behind this idea was a personality named Mark Zuckerberg. Yes, we are talking about both the network and the film. The latter was quite an impressive portrayal of the life of Mark Zuckerberg. It further showed how he decided to create a company that is now one of the highest functioning ones on the market. There is not a country ordinary city present where Facebook has not made its footprint.
So, it came as quite a shock when the news came out that Facebook may be forced to sell its prized Assets. In some lawsuits filed recently, Facebook might have to let go of WhatsApp and Instagram! Is that not one of the biggest news of this week? A billion-dollar company that has established itself as a Titan in Silicon Valley is currently under heavy fire.
Selling Those Assets
The reason for the lawsuits is quite impressive. These suits are being filed by the U.S federal trade commission and nearly every U.S state. They claim that Facebook has been using the ‘Buy or Bury’ technique to eliminate small competitions in the industry. It either snaps up the rivals or keeps them at bay long enough, so their runway runs out.
They focused specifically on the acquisition of WhatsApp, for $19 Billion in 2014, and Instagram, for $1 Billion in 2012. That is also why you might see ‘From Facebook’ every time you open WhatsApp or Instagram! Furthermore, New York attorney General Leticia James states that Facebook has used its market dominance for decades.

It is quite the hot waters that Facebook has currently got himself into. From working towards the top as the years passed by, Facebook is a monstrous giant in the industry. It allegedly has used this designation of power to establish more dominance in the market.
It can be an exciting piece of news to see how this case develops. Whether the company is forced to continue fighting a lawsuit after losing its assets remains to be seen. The Wall Street Journal is also one of the most widely used applications for staying up to date with news.

And every year, Google releases annual lists in different categories to tell who and what was search round the year by everyone. They release a global list and then, by region.
So, for Pakistan, the list was released on Wednesday. And in that list, there was a category for trending people that were searched in 2020. Amongst political people, there were entertainment celebrities as well. So while USA’s Joe Biden would definitely trend due to the recent US elections, Falak Shabir and Sarah also trended, most probably due to their marriage. Now, as of today, WhatsApp has revealed a new feature that allows its users to change the wallpapers of their chats individually. This will help the users in identifying conversations and might prevent them from mistakenly sending a wrong message to a wrong chat-window since the conversations will look visually different on the whole from one another.
In the range of the latest features rolled out today, there is also an upgraded search option to assist the users in searching for the right sticker to send on their chats.
The latest wallpaper feature will assist the users in making their chats look visually distinguished from each other and will help them in differentiating amongst their conversations.
How To Set Individual Wallpapers To Each Chat:
In order to access this feature on Android or IOS, you’ll have to update your Whatsapp to the latest version and then follow the steps listed below.
• Open the chat for which you intend to change the wallpaper
• Tap onto the contact’s name and access their contact details
• There will be an option titled, “Wallpaper and Sound”
• You will now be able to choose your desired wallpaper from the list of wallpapers offered by Whatsapp.
Note: you can also select an old stock wallpaper by tapping on “Wallpaper Archive”.
• In order to select a custom photo from your photo gallery, there is an option listed for that too
• After choosing the wallpaper from your phone’s gallery, Whatsapp will ask you to set the placement and brightness of your wallpaper. Select your desired & most suitable settings and your wallpaper for that specific chat will be uploaded
It is important to note that this procedure is only applicable on individual chats. However, for group chats, you can only change the wallpaper if you are an admin of that group.
Previously, many users sent their messages to the wrong chat window, resulting in the ugly “this message was deleted” alert for everyone in the group chat to see and raise skepticism. Now, at least with this move, it is expected that the user will now be more visually aware.
Facebook’s acquisition of Instagram and Whatsapp has allowed it to have a user-base of up to 3.6 Billion users, making Facebook the most widely used social media platform, considering all three apps come under the same hood of Facebook.

Lala’s Doppelganger Takes The Cake
A Twitter user had posted a picture of Jenson Ackles, part of the Supernatural crew. Ackles is mostly seen in horror, Vampire-esque movies, so we would not be surprised if you don’t know him. However, it is time to see the actor because he has been recognized as none other than Afridi’s look-alike.
It’s funny, the Twitter user who originally posted Ackles’ photo was praising him, but we Pakistanis can not get inside any and every private moment. Another user, namely Anas, came forth and hilariously said, “Lala looks a bit different here”! Before we narrate it all, here’s the comical and also enlightening exchange:

IKEA, most commonly known as the furniture brand, became known for its ready to assemble feature. It has a modern look to its furniture designs and gives its target audience the challenge of assembling the furniture themselves. People obviously loved it; in fact, they still do.

Putting a stop!
Based in Sweden, the Budget furniture giant would also produce an annual catalog. Its audience used to look forward to it. After seven decades, seventy years, and seventy publications, the brand has announced that they are shutting the catalog. The idea is that there is no point in publishing hard copies of the catalog when the buyers are moving online.
However, it needs to be noted that the catalog of IKEA was not just a major IKEA publication. In fact, it was among the world’s most prominent publications. In 2016, almost 200 million copies were distributed to IKEA stores and households in over 50 markets. And it has not been a small publication ever anyway. The very first installment in 1951 too had 285,000 prints and featured an MK wing chair on the cover. While the one in 2020 had 40 million copies.
Nostalgia
Considering it’s a 70-year-old tradition, the decision must have been emotional for them, but given the practicality of the situation and the business scenario, it needed to happen. And obviously, when it’s a significant decision, it’s not taken haphazardly. People observe. And as part of those observations, it came to notice that the target consumers seek inspiration online and also buy from the web instead of looking at the catalog, then visiting the outlet. The figure to facilitate this observation was the increase in online sales by 45% in a 12-month period that ended in August.
Brands Position
Konrad Gruss, Managing Director at franchisor Inter IKEA Systems – a division of brand owner Inter IKEA Group, said:
“The number of copies has gone down, but we have also seen that people have much more used our website, apps, and social media. The catalog became less and less important.”
“The interest in the catalog has come down,” he added. Gruss further emphasized how important the catalog was for the employees at IKEA, especially those who grew up with it. Considering he too was an IKEA veteran, for him, the catalog was nostalgic and even more emotional was the decision of discontinuing it.
“This (the catalog) has been such an important thing for us,” he said.

The money that the brand will now be saving, by not printing millions of copies, they will be spending on online marketing and other platforms. Moreover, the brand will still be publishing a smaller print publication. This publication will only be available in IKEA stores from 2021.

One Of These Things Is Not Like The Other
Over here, the important question we should be asking is: is there something wrong with the outfit or with our mindset? What makes people think that their worldviews are automatically shared by all those they see on social media?
True, when they become a public figure, they sign up for the ‘public’ part. However, the issue lies in people deeming themselves morally superior, religiously intact, and socially responsible for giving their opinions. Special Treatment of Women
In a sense, to be a woman in Pakistan is to be a pedestrian who can cross an intersection in 1 hour because the signs she sees keep changing. One minute you’re being encouraged to walk, and in the other, the light is red. Similarly, on the one hand, you have the most explicit movies going “Number 1” on Netflix in Pakistan while at the same time legs of a woman are intolerable.

Shopping malls closed, markets shut down, and transportation decreased by a significant scale. And yet, one thing the pandemic was not able to limit was the wedding craze in Pakistanis. Elaborate wedding functions kept on happening, without compromising on any ritual. Be it the mayun, Mehendi, or ratjagga; each function was a must. If there was a restriction on wedding halls, the venues shifted to gardens or even houses. The attires began including customized masks as well. Let’s just say everything was adapting, adopting new things with the old.
Shadi Rituals
So it will not be an out of the world gesture if even the small rituals such as joota chupai (hiding shoe) or Darwaza rukaai (stopping at the door) also gets revamped. But we saw something else getting revamped instead. It was the rasam of doodh pilaai (drinking milk). The groom has to drink milk from a fantastically decorated container. The bride’s family offers the glass to the groom. If they want to add a twist to the ritual, the bride’s family can put a knot in the straw. When the groom is unable to drink, he has to determine why that’s the case; otherwise, pay money.

Sheesha Pilaai
But in these changing times, milk was replaced by sheesha. Sheesha comes in the form of hookah. Now the hookah is culturally acceptable as old village people smoke it. But a version of it, sheesha, that has flavor in it is more acceptable amongst the current generation of urbanites. Although, since sheesha looks like a hookah, parents do not endorse their kids smoking it; as long as it does not have intoxicating drugs, they accept it outright. Since it already has controversial acceptance, having it at a wedding where you are surrounded by all your relatives, it is doubtful that parents would allow it.
But this Pakistani couple decided to do something very different. They exchanged the ceremony of doodh pilai with the controversial sheesha smoking. And on top of that, while only the groom is supposed to drink the milk, with sheesha, the bride too had a whiff with full confidence. It is no hidden secret that Pakistanis are very sexist; what they allow for their sons, they refuse their daughters. So while they would let their sons cigarettes, hell would break loose should their daughters started smoking. The same is the case with sheesha. So it was interesting to see the Pakistani couple break many norms through just one adaptation of a rasam.

Now today, Haim Eshed, who is a Former Israeli Space Agency’s Security Cheif gave an interview to the Israeli paper, Yedioth Aharonoth, where he made claims about cooperation agreements that have been signed between the two species and tells the newspaper that there is also an underground base in Mars where several American Space Representatives, Astronauts and Alien Representatives reside.
The personnel also claims that President Donald Trump knows about all this information and wanted to announce it to the public but was halted by his advisors as this will cause chaos and hysteria on humanity.
Even though the information provided by Eshed sounds straight out of a Hollywood action movie, it is essential to note that he was responsible for numerous space missions and was part of the team that lead the launch of multiple satellites belonging to Israel into space. He now claims that the reason why he is finally revealing this information is that people are more aware and take these information more responsively.
He also says that if he had come to the public with the same information five years ago, he would have been ridiculed and even hospitalized for sharing all these pieces of communication with the public. Now that the people are more receptive to this information, he shares it now as he has nothing to lose. He also said that he is well-reputed, known worldwide, and has received numerous awards and praises, and hence is not afraid of any possible consequences.

2020 has been a year of tragedies. From Australian fires to Beirut Explosion, everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. And the worst yet was the pandemic because other disasters happen, loss occurs in one go, and people start re-building. But the pandemic, and no vaccine for it in sight, it just kept on destructing. People would fall ill, die, lockdowns would impose, companies shut down, unemployment rise, and families starve. This just kept on happening. So the year has been called cursed. But has this cursed year taught us anything?
It did indeed. The cursed year has given us three essential lessons.
1. Human Touch is important
We had forgotten the importance of the human touch. In the age of the internet, there was just no need to interact with people. This is not to say that the internet was terrible. It did reduce distance when it came to being miles apart. But in staying connected with people miles away, we stopped looking at what was near us. When social distancing was imposed, and people were restricted to get close physically for months and months, it reminded us of the human touch’s importance.

2. Standing together, supporting
Amidst the toxicity, we forgot what it was like just to be supportive of other people. But when tragedy struck, when Australians required saving from the fire or Turkey needed support after the earthquake, the world stood there for support. It reminded us that at the end of the day, no matter how distant we get, we need to be there not just for our family or loved ones but for the entire human race. Even if you can’t support people financially, do so morally. It does wonders for the other one on the receiving end.

3. Love while you can
Not just happiness, even life is fleeting. The death from numerous tragedies in the entire 2020 has reminded us of it. We fight, we bicker, we have ill thoughts, but when the person we do all these things with is no more, it leaves only regrets. So it taught us that we need to love people while we can before they leave our sides.

Yongin Park, Head of Sensor Business Team at Samsung, has revealed that the aim in the future is a camera that will go beyond the human eye itself. A 600MP sensor is in the works that will deliver more detail than the human eye can see. Are you excited yet?

Moreover, according to Park, our eyes match a resolution of approximately 500MP. The goal of his team at Samsung is to develop sensors that can outdo that, which will be used in many applications outside of the smartphone world. By bringing this to their smartphones, there is no doubt that Samsung will be leading the game.
The Status Quo
The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra with its ISOCELL Bright HM1 sensor and the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 with the ISOCELL Bright HMX currently can output good images but not great. They can output 108 MP images, but they are mostly made to shoot in their set 12MP and 27MP modes.

Challenges to the Innovation
Introducing a 600MP camera is a huge challenge on its own. How will humans push forward from the boundary created in the creation of humans themselves? Even when it is done, how will a camera that big fit in smartphones?

One way to make it possible is to shrink the pixel size – the HM1 and HMX sensors have 0.8μm pixel size. 0.8μm is the smallest pixel size available until now. Then Samsung introduced a sensor based on 0.7μm pixels and it hopes it can take the shrinking further in order to adjust the spectacular camera in their smartphones.
Mr. Park has not committed to any deadlines. However, seeing the recent developments at Samsung, a 600MP module might come sooner than we think. Better have your pockets ready!

Pakistan’s much-loved model and actress has just announced that she will be leaving behind her work in the media industry for good. She took to Instagram to put up a post with text in which she has made this announcement. It comes to the shock of many and has left her fans divided.
Did you know that Zainab Jamil began as a newscaster and an anchor? It was only until she gained fame and success there that she tried her hand at acting. She initially joined the industry as a model until she had made a space for herself.

She is most known for her Geo TV drama serial “Sada Sukhi Raho” with Kamran Jilani. The story revolves around the two, and her role is that of a bright and dignified girl.
Another role that she has played is Syed Imran Ali’s directed drama “Susraal Meri Behan Ka” alongside Beenish Chohan. She then also played as a Shireen in the 2016 Hum TV drama series “Khawab Saraye” and Muneeb Butt, Aiman Khan, Behroze Sabzwari, and Khalid Anam. The Earthquake in Turkey was another heartbreaking tragedy that increased the list of 2020 disasters. The one good news out of that was when an infant was rescued from the rubble. The baby had had no nutrition for three days.

And let’s not forget George Floyd, the person who became the trigger for the Black Lives Matter movement. The movement saw many calm protesters, but the opportunity seekers turned it into a violent scenario. Gun shootings became common, and the protesters were on the receiving end of the violence.

Master Motor has the same ownership as Master Molty Foam. This new vehicle, Changan Alsvin, has been manufactured to be a 1500cc vehicle. It is a sedan, no less, whose formal launch is expected in the next three months. The price is one you’ll want to hear. It’s expected to be around either Rs.2 or Rs.2.5 Million.
Launch date
The vehicle is expected to be launched on December 11th. That is just a handful of days away! This is considerably less than the Toyota Yaris, which is between Rs.2.5 and Rs.3 million. You are getting a 1500cc vehicle at a meager price compared to the usual sedans here!

Future Prospects For Pakistan
An industry source stated that Master Motor intends to launch two vehicles soon. One of them is the Changan Alsvin, and the second is to be an SUV. They have yet to decide which SUV will be released, but the base plan is already in motion. The Alsvin, from its specifications, seems like quite a sturdy and robust vehicle.
It will surely take the market by storm when it’s released. You are getting the same type of premium features you might get in some mid-high range sedans. Additionally, getting a brand new sedan at this price is a worthy catch!
How Master Motor intends to move forward after this remains to be seen. However, we hope they keep improving the specifications of the vehicle with each new model release. For now, this launch intends to boost the auto industry further and encourage competition.
