With technology advancing as quickly as it is right now, everyone wants to take a dip in the latest inventions. It doesn’t matter whether you’re someone who is into making gaming PCs or you’re an Apple fan; everyone wants that dip. Nvidia is pushing forward with their new cards as well as acquiring newer deals.

Similarly, Samsung is releasing timelines and specifications for the Galaxy S21. In that same timeline, Apple is up to something. They have had a good year, even though the world got hit by a pandemic. The second wave is raging away right now, with newer cases every day. However, that does not seem to have hindered Apple’s ability to wow their audience!

Apple Taking Bounds

As 2020 ends, Apple’s era is taking yet another newer level. With every passing year, Apple seems to reveal products that keep their audience gripped. Everyone wants to go out and buy the latest Apple product. They are trendsetters, and they seem to be not holding back when making technological bounds.

Even today, we have news for you that is not something Apple has usually done before. Yes, Apple is at something new, but New to the world remains to be seen. Let us dive into the details of what exactly is it that the company wants us to know.

A New Design:

Apple has recently released info about a new product. In a new video, Popular Industry Insider, John Prosser, has revealed that Apple is testing. What is it testing exactly? They are testing a new foldable iPhone! That concept sounds familiar. Didn’t Samsung already release a flip phone some time back? He even indicates its time release. Currently, the phone is being tested for its hinges in manufacturing.

The expected release date is speculated to be September 2022, but it is not a concrete date. However, it does bring to light that Apple may just be following Samsung’s suite, just years later. Roles seem to have been reversed for this one. However, the company is still pondering over whether the phone will flip or fold.

Knocking It Out Of The Park:

How Apple intends to take this forward, alongside the iPhone 13 release, remains to be seen. Apple is known for making impressive announcements and high capability products. Whether it is the OS chip or the iPhone 12, Apple has impressed with all of these and is still doing so!

With a probable flip or foldable phone hitting the market, they will also have to show major upgrades in iPhone 13. We hope the leaks and release are a good combination that leaves the audience wanting more. After all, Steve Jobs did dream that he leaves behind an everlasting legacy. He was the pioneer behind the company, and he is one of the standing pillars of the throne on which the company resides. Even with the iCar news, Apple has shown that they are not limited to just technical products.

Burger King Reveals Its ‘2020’ Burger & It’s Horrifying As It Sounds

Even though the pandemic started in 2019, it gained momentum in 2020. Australia saw a forest fire. And Lebanon witnessed a significant blast. And month after month, the year has, in simple terms, sucked. Even as the year ends, the bad news continues to grace us with its arrival. Case in point being the strain of coronavirus mutating and becoming more dangerous.

Obviously, advertising had to make its statement as well. It always does. It doesn’t matter if the ad’s product will sell or not because it is not made for that purpose. The product is made to make the brand stand out. When they are successful, they automatically gain or retain consumers.

Burger King employed that too. In fact, they keep doing it. There was one ad where they let the burger mold away. It was hideous to look at but also very creative.

This time they wanted to define the year 2020. So instead of using words, they used their specialty, the burger. The burger, they claimed, was going to look and taste like how one would visualize 2020. Interestingly, this is not just an ad but an entire campaign. It was created by DAVID São Paulo. In that campaign, they delegated social media users to come up with the worst recipe they could think of. They were told that they had to keep 2020 in their minds as they suggested ingredients. So here is what they came up with:

Burnt buns, sultanas, overcooked noodles, sardines, jackfruit, a chicken foot, thick caramel sauce, and Tutti-Frutti jello.

Well, Burger King said, ‘Roger that.’ They went ahead and used all these ingredients to make the utterly worst 2020 burger. And if you were to think that all these ingredients in isolation might not be that bad, here is the reaction to the atrocity that some of the brave citizens of the world had when they were made to try it.

Given how we have reacted to the year, their expressions look exact replicas of us. So, I’d say that Burger King has been successful in making the perfect 2020 burger. Good work indeed!

A few weeks back, the Government of the United Kingdom announced the emergence of a new variant of the Corona Virus which was a cause behind the number of cases increasing rapidly. The announcement of this mutation alarmed countries all around the world to take strict measures to prevent the spread of this new mutant of the already disruptive and deadly Covid-19.

Emergence Of The New Strain In Pakistan

The new strain of the coronavirus which is referred to as B.1.17 lineage has been detected in three out of six Covid positive travellers that landed to Karachi from the UK.

“The Genotyping showed 95% match of the new variant from the UK. These samples will go through another phase of genotyping” said Meeran Yousuf who is the Sindh Health Department’s spokesperson. He also revealed the fact that all three cases were detected at Karachi Airport.

The Sindh Health Department claims to inform about the revelations to the Special Assistant of Prime Minister Of Pakistan, Imran Khan on National Health Services, Dr. Faisal Sultan about the latest updates regarding the existence of this new variant within the Pakistani borders

The provincial health department has also stated that the contract tracing of these patients has been started and the people with whom these patients were under contact with will be isolated as well to prevent the spread of this strain any further.

What Has Been Known About The New Coronavirus Mutant?

According to the announcement by British Government, the health professionals in the UK claim that the variant is said to be up to 70% more transmissible than the virus normally is, making it more infectious than it initially was.

After this news broke, many countries including Pakistan placed travel bans to the UK to prevent the strain from crossing the border of the United Kingdom.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) revised the travel ban policy on Tuesday and allowed Business Visa, Visit Visa and Transit Visa holders with Pakistani Passports to be allowed to return upon showing a negative PCR test which is to be taken 72 hours before they travel back to Pakistan.

The identification of this new variant in patients that arrived in Karachi from the UK is alarming as the Pakistani health system is already exhausted with active Covid 19 cases that have severely affected the lives of Pakistanis, urging the government to revise its policies and take stern measures to enforce social distancing amongst the public to prevent the virus from spreading any further.

Let’s hope this alarming situation settles down soon so that the loss of lives and the disruptions caused by it could be prevented and we could go back to our normal lives.

Yaqeen Ka Safar – A Sad Attempt At Copying Dhoop Kinaray?

Ahad Raza Mir and Sajal Ali starrer Yaqeen Ka Safar made news for their beautiful chemistry. They brought life to Farhat Ishtiaq’s Dr. Asfandyar and Dr. Zoobia Khalil. Pakistan loved them a lot, so much that the actors were soon spotted in another show. And ultimately, Sajal and Ahad got married.

But let’s come back to the drama itself for a minute. Yaqeen ka Safar was quite popular, and even I loved it a lot. However, last week I decided to watch some old Pakistani dramas one more time. And I started with Dhoop Kinaray. I wanted to see the charming Dr. Ahmer romancing with Dr. Zoya Ali Khan. And guess what I found?

Yaqeen Ka Safar vs. Dhoop Kinaray

I found some crazy similarities between some characters and scenes of Yaqeen Ka Safar and Dhoop Kinaray. Now, we all know that Dhoop Kinaray was a show in 1987, so Yaqeen Ka Safar is the one that came later in the timeline. You don’t have to be a genius to figure out which seems to be a copy of which.

I mean, just look at Dr. Irfan, the jolly figure who kept the entire hospital staff entertained with timely poetry. He was from Dhoop Kinaray. Now take a look at Dr. Haroon from Yaqeen Ka Safar! Did you see any difference, well, other than Dr. Irfan’s performance being genuinely extraordinary? I mean, the chemistry between him and Anji was great, but so was his chemistry with Dr. Ahmer and Dr. Zoya, and all the other doctors on the staff.

The iconic comparison

Then we have the iconic scene where Dr. Zoya has witnessed victims of bomb blast being brought in. She has treated them, but she also saw fatalities all around her. And that’s when she loses it and starts crying. Dr. Ahmer arrives and lovingly consoles and scolds her.

Now, let’s have a look at Yaqeen Ka Safar. Dr. Zoobia loses a patient, and Dr. Asfandyar has to come and console her and tell her that she, as a doctor has to continue working while going through what she is going through.

It seemed like a copy, in fact, a sad replica of the scene from Dhoop Kinaray, to me at least.

The character arches were utterly different. And so was the back story. So I am not saying that Farhat Ishtiaq copied it all. All I am saying is that she should have put in more effort to come up with character personalities.

100 Most Handsome Faces 2020 Trends & Pakistanis Have A Lot To Say

2020 is leaving us with yet another trend but we have to say, this one is heartwarming!

100 Most Handsome Faces

The new trend, as the heading suggests, is about nominating who you think is the most handsome face of 2020. People on Twitter are jumping on the bandwagon left, right and center and nominating others. Be it loved ones, crushes, significant others or even fantasies, the nominees are diverse.

Pakistanis Get Nominating!

First and foremost we’d love to hear your guess about who the first one would be. There’s someone we have a knack of bringing in everything though nowadays the opposition demands he be taken out! Yes, it’s none other than Prime Minister Imran Khan being nominated for the #100MostHandsomeFaces challenge!

Lala

We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again, nothing beats the love Pakistanis have for Afridi. He goes by many names and they’re all used as endearing ones to call him by be it Lala or boom boom. Lala too has been nominated for the #100MostHandsomeFaces  and we’re not complaining!

Nothing Like A Mother’s Love

Things also got a tad bit emotional when a netizen nominated their mother for the trend. It’s the cutest thing we’ve seen today that made our day, we hope it makes yours too. Plus, this is a reminder to squeeze our moms into a hug right now!

Khaddim Rizvi

Khaddim Rizvi also seems to be a prominent contender in all of this. The late personality is being remembered by his fans still.

Cricketers Taking The Lead

Babar Azam has also won a nomination into the stream of nominees. A fan has shared his picture and calls him “a beauty”— now that’s a confession of love right there.

How Could We Forget?

Can we ever forget the heartthrob of this country? Someone who has also made fans over his looks (and talent) across the border too? It’s none other than Fawad Khan and if there’s anyone who deserves a spot here, it’s him.

Getting Humorous

Last, but not least, here’s a meme because knowing Pakistanis we can never have too many memes, or jokes or roasts. Here’s to a wrap!

A Trend of Everything

This year saw a large number of trends some of which were funny while others were toxic! Many trends encouraged people to embrace their insecurities while others created more. This trend is a prime example of one that is funny and heart-warming for all those involved.

Continuing From The PPE Times

Asim Jofa became the advisor for PPE quality control by the Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho in June of 2020. Jofa had been one of those steadfast designers from the local fashion industry who extended a helping hand in mitigating the effects of the pandemic. The shortage in the PPE suits created more problems and designers stepped forth to help, Jofa being one of them.

A post shared by Asim Jofa (@asimjofa)

Even in AsimJofa Cares bio, it has been mentioned that this pursuit to help the country started with the PPE suits initiative and perhaps has led the designer here. But are we all that impressed?

One Thing Is Not Like The Other

While it is totally commendable that Jofa stepped forth to create PPEs for his country at a time of shortage, the new line is anything but. It seems like every who’s who of Pakistan’s attempt at cashing in on the pandemic. Is there any shortage of surface cleaners or masks or sanitisers?

Every brand has felt the need to make one only because they think it is more relevant right now, this is what we can cash on! However, Jofa has said that all proceeds will be used to fight COVID-19.

The Details Get Interesting

Most of the products are priced within the range of PKR 500. Though the prices are not outrageously expensive, they are on the pricier side. That is especially a concern when Asim Jofa also has not been transparent about the process.

It is a common habit nowadays to take already manufactured detergents and bottle them into fancier packaging with a different label to charge a higher price. Has Asim Jofa started a new factory to manufacture his products or converted his old one?

Students Protest After HEC Announces Its Associate Degree Program

HEC

If you do a 4-year bachelor program and someone else does a 2-year program, would you think of that education as your equal? Well, HEC apparently doesn’t think of it that way. And so, they announced that the 2-year programs to be unacceptable. Any such program that gave degrees after the academic year of 2018 was not going to be recognized.

HEC issued the directive in 2019. But here is the thing, there were people already enrolled in the two-year degree programs for the year 2018-2019. Some must have ended their 2-year program in 2020. All of them got informed that they do not hold a valid degree anymore. This must have been quite a shock for them.

HEC turns BA/BS into Associate Degree

As a possible solution, HEC has also said that those who have already attained this education or are currently enrolled in it, they can be awarded ‘Associate Degree’ instead of Bachelors. This obviously does not sit well with those students who sought admission with the hope of receiving a bachelor’s at the end of it. And hence, they started protesting.

The Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) was seen protesting on Tuesday in front of the Governor House. The agenda of the protestors were not just limited to bringing back the two-year bachelor’s program and denouncing the Associate Degree but also talking about MDCAT. The placards stated that they found irregularities in the MDCAT exam conducted under the supervision of the Pakistan Medical Commission. They said that they would prefer the restoration of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.

For the Associate Degree Program, the IJT spokesperson said that thousands of students were forced to accept the AD program because they couldn’t complete the four-year program, so HEC should bring the 2-year bachelor’s degree back.

He soon became a national hero when he scored a century against arch-rivals India in the final of the Champions Trophy, helping Pakistan to win the match by 158 runs to lift their first-ever ICC Champions Trophy.

Later in 2018, Zaman scored a double century against Zimbabwe in an ODI and became the first and only Pakistani to do so. Zaman completed his 1000 ODI runs in only 18 innings, becoming the fastest ever batsman to accomplish the feat.

Zaman in seven years of his career has played 40 T20Is and 47 ODIs for Pakistan and his record in both formats has been remarkable. He has 1,960 runs to his name at an average of 45.58 and a strike rate of 95.23 in ODIs, whereas in T20Is he has scored 838 runs with an average of 22.05 and a strike rate of 134.08.

Recently, he was named in the 35-man squad for the tour of New Zealand but wasn’t able to fly with the team as he fell ill on the evening of the squad’s departure.

Karachi Karsaz Churail Spotted In Malir Cantt

If you are a true Pakistani, you would have definitely heard of the Karsaz Churail. The legend has it that the Karsaz churail was really a bride whose groom died on Karsaz road. She was truly heartbroken and died. They say that she still roams the road where her husband-to-be is said to have died.

The Hauntings of The Karsaz area

Because of Karsaz Churail, the area started to become associated with a lot of rumors as well. You may have come across posts on Instagram, claiming that there are uninhabited houses that have been seen with a child hanging at the window. And much more. But really, they could just be rumors. The real attraction of Karsaz has always been the churail bride.

Karsaz Churail Bride in Karsaz

The Karsaz road used to be very dark and lonely, with absolutely no traffic initially. So the myth became strong. Now, however, the road is very vibrant, with restaurants and residential areas having been made. In fact, you will find a lot of ghostbusters traveling to Karsaz and returning with failure in their eyes because they couldn’t see her. We just might have solved the mystery for them. The reason they couldn’t see the Karsaz Churail is not that she is a made-up lie but that she may have been posted elsewhere.

Spotted at Malir Cantt

In recent news, it has been said that the famous chai place in Malir Cantt Karachi, Four Dots, may have been the current residence of Karsaz Churail. A Mair Cantt resident reported on a social media group that he saw a woman in black robes who insisted on dropping her off at the park of phase 1, Malir Cantt. Let it be noted that the park is the most creepiest of the entire residential area and people avoid visiting that park after nightfall. The man asked the lady to procure a Malir Cantt pass, but she insisted on getting a lift. This is all happening late at night after 1 a.m.

Well, there goes all my late-night chai trips to Four Dots. I am not ready to meet the churail yet.

As it turns out, ghosts do prefer lonely places, and if they become as crowded as Karsaz, they take refuge in gated communities. Are we really pushing out the ghosts as well? And are ghosts really going to stay silent at this urban dislocation?

It’s NOT Just A Game – It’s Much More Than That

Even if you had never held a gaming controller, there is very little chance you haven’t heard of the term ‘eSports.’ Not long ago gaming was a mere leisure activity for teens and younger; it hardly even got branded as a hobby by many a decade ago. It is not the case anymore, rather it has taken a drastic shift. To frame it in a larger viewpoint, the analysis from Allied eSports, a leading eSports entertainment company, is an eye-opener.

According to them, as an industry, video gaming is already bigger than music and movies industries combined. eSports is on the path of hitting over $300 billion by the year 2025, as predicted by Forbes.

eSports, short for electronic sports, is organized and competitive video gaming that earned the status of a sport particularly because of these two features. Like any other sport, eSports has its own digital and physical events attended by millions of fans from around the world earning billions of dollars in revenue.

Inception and rapid growth of the Battle Royale genre has been the catalyst to this industry’s inconceivable success. PUBG, Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone & Apex Legends are all popular Battle Royale titles which are essentially online multiplayer video games that blend survival, exploration, and scavenging elements of a survival game with last-man-standing gameplay.

Developing countries like Pakistan have retrospectively always been slow in adopting to the latest developments, especially tech-related. eSports and Battle Royale specifically, in Pakistan, have been a different story altogether. Since a lot of modern games have their mobile versions and for the Battle Royale genre mobile phones are the preferred platform it spread swiftly requiring no hefty investments, unlike the conventional console or PC-based games.

Unfortunately, this whole community of gamers in Pakistan pretty much existed under the radar of public and state acknowledgment until one fine day when one of these games got banned locally. The ban and the reaction to it from the masses evidenced on a lot of levels the unheeded strength and size of the eSports community in Pakistan.  It sparked a debate, a healthy one for what it’s worth. The voice was acknowledged by the authorities and the ban was lifted … but what now?

In conventional sporting events of all natures and scopes, Pakistan’s continuing dismal or non-existent performance is no secret. Lack of infrastructure, opportunities and above all utter ignorance of governments are the few talked about reasons of the declining state of sports in Pakistan, they can all be addressed locally for eSports at this budding stage.

Developing players for global competition is just one aspect of the matter, game development is another. A number of Pakistani game developers and other technical resources working internationally for big game development studios is proof that Pakistanis have the acumen and the desire to succeed in this area. With the likes of advisors and technocrats rightly hired to consult the government based on their core expertise, celebrated game developers like Shahid Kamal Khan, ex-Director Strategic Content at Sony and an avid game developer at heart is the kind of mentors Pakistan can engage to guide Pakistani game developers.

The development and success of this sector while benefiting Pakistanis can potentially create a whole lot good for the government as well. It can boost government’s efforts in achieving their multiple targets; mainly employment and the much talked about foreign investments. The whole eSports industry is a big pool of cash, from sponsorships, advertising, streaming rights, merchandise and magnanimous prize money. By not being a part of it we are not only missing out on great opportunities but also letting others take a head start owing to our utter disregard in understanding the impact of this new industry.

According to Newzoo, one of the world’s most trusted and quoted sources for games market insights and analytics, annual mobile gaming revenues in India are forecast to grow from $1.1 billion in 2018 to $2.4 billion in 2020. This makes India the fastest-growing mobile games market in the world by overall revenue. On the contrary, with respect to prize money won by players, Pakistan has beaten India consecutively by a considerable margin for the last couple of years. The talent surely is there, just a little rub down and this can be THE solution to a lot of our economic as well as social problems.

No solution can be expected until the problem is identified as a problem, which unfortunately is the phase we are in. The authorities need to crawl out from under the rock and understand that gaming is not just children do to waste their time. The world has changed and by banning or ignoring this in Pakistan is only going to set us further back. When we can get assistance from China in all matters of state, why not in developing our eSports industry. In the time Pakistan has achieved its total annual exports of 21 Billion USD, China has earned over 40 Billion USD in just gaming-related revenue.

Pakistan is an agricultural country. This statement has been valid for the past 70 years and it is high time that Pakistan, as a country finds better, more suitable avenues of earnings that not just stabilizes but future proofs our economy.

5 Things An Avid Pakistani Traveler Can Relate To

Pakistani Traveler

You may love traveling, but as a Pakistani, it is very hard to do so, especially if you are a girl. Even if you are a guy, you have to get ‘permission’ from your dad, and it doesn’t matter if you are a fully grown adult and have celebrated your 30th birthday. But if somehow you have figured out the hacks of getting that rare ‘permission,’ there will be few things that, as a Pakistani traveler, you can definitely relate to.

1. Tons of things for as short as a 2-day trip

Now the trip could literally be lesser than 48 hours; Travelling in the early hours of Saturday and reaching in the late hours of Sunday. But a Pakistani traveler will take a few bags, water bottles, wedding albums, bed, house, and any other thing they lay their eyes on.

2. What ifs

What ifs are the most significant part of prepping adventure. What if the weather suddenly turns cold in the mid of June? So let’s take a pair of winter clothes.

What if you lose one water bottle? You should take 3. Don’t lie; we have all done that.

3. Blaming the office

If you are a female traveler, tell the phuppos your office sent you. Oops, did I say it out loud?

Well, they won’t go to your office to confirm which conference sent you to Turkey now, did they?

4. Not switching off phones until the last minute

On the plane, as you leave Pakistan, you will always find some weird fellow Pakistani who will cross the limit with the air hosts and hostesses but not turn off their phones. It’s not nice to do that, good sirs.

5. Making the plane your good old W-11

Have you ever traveled on Karachi’s local buses? W-11 was the worst off amongst all of them. And Pakistanis can make a normal plane seem like W-11. While the plane is taxi-ing, they will all rise from their seats and take out their luggage. No dear, you can’t jump out; you’ll hurt yourself.

These are just some aspects that every avid Pakistani traveler can relate to. If you are also one of them and have more things to share, do let us know in the comments. We will be sure to add them to the list. And Happy Travelling!

PCB Reveals Pick Order For The First Round Of PSL 2021 Draft

The sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is around the corner, and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), announced the pick order for the first round of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 draft.

Through a post on the official account of Pakistan Super League (PSL), PCB revealed the order of the picks for the first round.

The first pick has been given to the winners of the first and third editions of PSL, Islamabad United (IU), whereas the current champions, Karachi Kings (KK), will have the last pick.

IU’s pick will be followed by Multan Sultans, Lahore Qalandars, Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators, and Karachi Kings.

The possibility of holding the event in an open-air setting is being discussed because of the coronavirus pandemic’s spread, forcing the tournament to go ahead behind closed doors.

The CEO of the PCB, Wasim Khan, revealed tentative dates in his statements, according to which the tournament is to begin by February 20, 2021. “We are looking to start from February 20 to March 21, and these are the tentative dates just like the last season. We have informed the franchises, and they are aware of these dates,” he said.

He also revealed the venues for the sixth edition, where Balochistan and Peshawar failed to make a place in the list. “The matches will be played at the same four venues, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi,” he informed.

Are you also the kind of person who doesn’t like to converse with words rather emotions? Because I am. And so, more than writing complete sentences, I prefer using emojis, gifs, and stickers. They keep the conversation interesting. And many applications provide a whole reservoir of stickers to choose from. But what if, this new year, you could create your own sticker?

Whatsapp, the messaging app, is offering the chance to make personalized stickers for the new year. This way, you will not be limited to the available stickers, and you can employ your creativity. So welcome to the time when you can create your own sticker packs. So let’s tell you how you can make the sticker pack.

whatsapp sticker

You will have to download an app for that, though.

Step 1: Download app

First of all, go to App Store or Play Store and download the app. The app is ‘Sticker Maker’. You can also use the ‘Sticker Studio – WhatsApp Sticker Maker’ app if you can’t find the ‘Sticker Maker’.

Step 2: Create Stickerpack

So what you need to do is open the application. You will then need to click on the ‘Create a new stickerpack.’

Step 3: Name the stickerpack

You obviously can name your sticker pack yourself because, of course, they are personalized ones, are they not? And then you can give credits to yourself. I mean, just imagine, your sticker goes viral, people should not it was the Karachiite Saba. She doesn’t always ask for a mobile balance; sometimes, she also creates stickers.

Step 4: Up to 15 new year stickers!

Once you have named the pack, you will get the option of creating 15 stickers in every pack. To generate the sticker, you can take a photo right away, choose one from the gallery, or you can also select the option of text.

Step 5: Edit Away

Once you select the picture you want to start with, you will get the option to edit it or cut it out. You can also crop the image usually, but honestly, go for the freehand option; cutting the picture with that option makes it a more personalized vibe. Don’t forget to save the sticker.

Step 6: Add to Whatsapp

After making the stickers, you will have to choose the option of ‘Add to WhatsApp’. You will get a confirmation message. You don’t have to have 15 stickers, but you should definitely have three stickers in the sticker pack.

Now go to Whatsapp, you will see the sticker pack in the sticker sub-section of the emoji section.
