Social media has been an immense help in these COVID times as it has helped reduce the distance for many during the lockdown. Alongside that, it has also aided in connecting people in need medically or economically. You must have seen various covid emergency posts coming up all over the social media platforms and they have been helpful to many as well because people want to help each other in these troubling times.

However, it seems that while social media has been a help, the people it connects with may not be all that helpful, in fact, they can be very much a source of harassment. This is exactly what happened with a girl last week.

Shasvathi Siva, an Indian girl was worried about her aunt’s health ever since she contracted COVID. Everyone is experiencing different extent of COVID so while doctors are suggesting quarantining at home. When the health worsens severely, patients have to be taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, however, hospitals are full and are lacking enough ventilators to accommodate patients.

So for this reason, Shasvathi decided to take on the help of social media. Within a few hours, she had found the ventilator for her aunt.

Situation goes critical

Within a couple of days, the health condition of her aunt went critical. They needed plasma donors for her. So once again, Shasvathi went to Twitter asking for people’s help. As it goes, several people reshared her request. And some of her friends even added her personal number for quick connection. But given how the men are, she ended up regretting it.

Instead of getting a plasma donor whom she urgently needed for a COVID emergency, people started harassing her. They asked her out on dates, giving her unsolicited comments, and wanted to know her relationship status.

She continued blocking all those numbers but they poured in without pause and the level of harassment kept heightening with time. She even got obscene and inappropriate pictures on her WhatsApp account.

Exhausted, she took to Twitter her experience and asked women to ensure their number never gets circulated on media even if it is an emergency because men do not even factor that when they want to harass.

Pakistani dramas have received a lot of recognition all over the world, especially in the last few years. Shows made in the Pakistani industry do not have a high budget at all in comparison to Indian, Turkish, and others. 1. Zindagi Gulzar Hai

HUM TV aired Zindagi Gulzar Hai in 2012. We must say that it had the best storyline in the recent history of Pakistani dramas. Zindagi Gulzar Hai had an incredibly talented cast, including the linked of Fawad Khan, Sanam Saeed, Shehryar Munawwar, Mehreen Raheel, Hina Bayat, Samina Peerzada, and others.

The drama had a beautiful ending for Saam Saeed and Fawad Khan’s characters. The story of Sanam Saeed’s Kashaf came into a full circle with her realizing how beautiful life is and how grateful she is for all of this.

2. Humsafar

Humsafar was the most popular drama of its time. It was aired in 2011 and also was the first Pakistani drama to be featured in cinemas. Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan rose to new heights of fame through Humsafar. The show was written by Farhat Ishtiaq and directed by Sarmad Khoosat.

The drama had a great ending with Ashar and Khirad reuniting. Fawad nailed the last episode with his acting in the scene where Ashar stood up to his mother for Khirad.

3. Udaari

Udaari raised many important issues, including child sexual abuse. It also explored the class differences and rural and urban differences in terms of opportunities and mindset. Udaari’s cast included Farhan Saeed, Urwa Hocane, Samiya Mumtaz, and Ahsan Khan. Farhat Ishtiaq wrote the story, and Ehteshamuddin directed the drama.

The drama came to an end with Zebo getting justice, Imtiaz being prosecuted for his crime, and Arsh and Mira being engaged to marry. Moreover, the show had an incredible ending with Zebo and her mother being financially independent and starting their own business.

Udaari served a great purpose to educate people about child abuse. It was a much-needed drama on this concerning topic.

4. Ye Dil Mera

Ye Dil Mera is another Farhat Ishtiaq blockbuster. Apart from having a talented cast, the drama had great storytelling. It revolved around the lives of Noor ul Ain and Aman.

The best thing about its ending is that it didn’t follow the same route other dramas follow:

The guy does something terrible -> He realizes it in the end -> asks the girl for forgiveness and earns it.

On the contrary, in Yeh Dil Mera, Noor ul Ain did not forgive Aman for using her to get his revenge. Mahira Khan also acknowledged this change in one of her interviews.

1. Female Artist by Rozi

A creation of Imran Aslam, Rozi is an all-time classic drama in which Moin Akhtar has played the role of a female artist.

The drama was an adaptation of a Hollywood film, “Tootsie” and his role won him critical appreciation and was loved by all because of the hilarious depiction of female gender.

2. The Author In Half-Plate

Moin Akhtar’s role as an author in Anwer Maqsood’s Half Plate was one of his most outstanding performances ever.

Again directed by Anwar Maqsood, the drama which had Shakeel and Bushra Ansari in the lead only featured Moin Akhtar in one of the episodes but so symbolic was his role as a poet that when Anagan Terha was reenacted in theatre, the role of the poet was also incorporated.

As a disillusioned poet, one of the most comical scene still remembered was when Begum Jahan Ara slaps the poet to get him going. His much memorable lines are still quoted by many, “Jo kaha tha main ne sach tha, jo suna tha who nahi tha”

4. The Miser in Such-Much

Such Much, which came much after the dramas mentioned above, portrayed Moin Akhtar as a wealthy but stingy businessman who was always caught up between his two wives.

His accent which had a Memoni touch to it was very popular among people who especially tried to copy his very unique laughter.

5. Transvestite in Loose-Talk

Relatively new, “Loose-Talk”, which had the duo of Anwar Maqsood and Moin Akhtar was perhaps one of those shows which made sure that the newer generation knew who Moin Akhtar was.

With hundreds of characters ranging from a poor labourer to a politician to a dictator, Moin Akhtar did all. He even became a transvestite in one of the episodes and laughingly made all of us realize the actual problems of the lot which is a taboo in our society.

Coronavirus pandemic had led to lockdowns all over the world. As a result, people were trapped in their houses and working from home. This allowed a number of them to find solace in Netflix. The net income for the platform stands at $1.71 billion, better than a year ago. And just in the first quarter, it has a free cash flow of almost $692 million. So the value of Netflix did take a dive but it seems stronger than ever (financially).

Tip # 1

When you make the batter for the pakora, you usually make it with cold water or room temperature with besan. This time, try adding rice flour to the batter. This will ensure you get crispy pakoras because rice flour would enable them to not soak a lot of oil.

Tip # 2

This one is a technical tip instead of an ingredient-focused one. According to this, get a karhai which has a heavy bottom. The reasoning behind it is that it will allow for an adequate frying temperature. Another alternative is an air fryer.

Tip # 3

Go for oils that have high smoke points. This the best tip for anything that needs to be deep-fried. So for instance, choose vegetable oil or peanut oil and stay away from olive oil

Tip # 4

More importantly, if you are making vegetable pakora, remember to be careful about water as vegetable tends to give out water. The runnier the pakora, the worse it will be in terms of shape and size.

Always fry pakoras on medium flame. But do make sure that the oil is adequately hot so that when you put the pakora in the oil, it comes right back up but in the same color. If it comes up brown, then the oil is too hot and it will remain uncooked and soggy from the inside.

Chanel created their very own makeshift space station, with a life-sized Chanel rocket ship stationed right in the middle of the runway.

The collection was inspired by outer space and featured lots of metallic boots, spacesuit printed dresses, space shawls, and galactic prints. And to top of the finale, the rocket was not just a prop actually blasted off (not quite into space) but 10-meters into the air, with lots of smoke and Elton John’s ‘Rocket Man’ blaring in the background.

For its 2014 fashion show, Chanel created an entire grocery store replica, which included more than 100,000 items. The labels of at least 500 everyday products had been repackaged and labeled.

Fashion designer Pierre Cardin’s Palais Bulles (Bubble Palace) was a location for Dior’s Cruise 2016 collection. From bright colors to pastel hues, the outfits matched perfectly with the clean aesthetic of the palace.

4. Gucci, Westminster Abbey

The glorious presentation was not only charming but also a cultural reset. Gucci’s 2017 cruise collection was a mixture of cool punk aesthetics with a blend of historical views. An initiative by the company SecondWife.com is going viral for the matchmaking service it provides. Apparently, the matchmaking site for married men allows them to seek a second, third or fourth wife if they seek polygamy. They have been covered by numerous publications in the past but recently they gained more virality when a post about them started circulating on social media. People were undecided about how to perceive it.

People began reacting to this. Some appreciated this initiative genuinely while some endorsed it just because they got excited about the idea of second marriage. The idea of a second marriage has become a sort of a trigger for women nowadays, and men like to joke about it intentionally to further anger them. This was all visible in the online debate happening on Facebook.

The multiple parties that emerged had various stances. One of the stances was that this was Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) sunnah.

“In our society, second marriages are considered a crime. Even first marriage has become an extremely difficult ritual. No?”

Long story short, every kind of opinion was present on the internet. And the debate saw no end.

In a prank or rather an experiment by a Youtuber, a Muslim man’s faith was heavily tested. The video shows a woman roaming around with an iPhone 12 Pro Max in her hand. She sees a brown guy walking towards her and stops him, asks him whether he is a Muslim. When he responds in the affirmative, she lays out her deal to him.

The Guy’s Response

The guy, it seems, as a steadfast Muslim whose response to the prank was inspiring yet also hilarious. The first question he asks the lady is, “Are you crazy?” It appears the guy was experiencing incredulity at the blatant disregard white people can have for others.

He even says, “You can not ask if someone is fasting and then ask them to break it.” This response is inspiring because it shows no matter how much a material thing must be desired, it is not greater than your faith. Moreover, if someone underestimates your faith this way, you do not have to be silent. Be vocal but respectfully!

However, this prank video gets even better. The YouTuber had planted a helper in the surrounding who also joins in. He is a man dressed in Arabic clothing who also says he is a Muslim. But, unlike the steadfast guy, this one is all ready and excited to break his fast for the phone.

What Happens If One Breaks Fast?

Breaking a fast is not a small feat. If for any reason someone has to break a fast, they must do the “kafarah”. There are various guidelines set for doing a Kafarah which range from either feeding a certain number of people for the number of fasts broken or keeping a fast for a certain number of days.

This prank was harmless but it taught us a lot. A fast is a connection you have with God, nothing material should sever it.

Pakistan ranked 90th on the Inclusive Internet Index 2021 report released by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), dropping further down from its position at 76th last year and stressing the need for policymakers and industry players to view the situation as no less than a digital emergency.

In the past year, Covid-19 and the ensuing need for social distancing became an unlikely catalyst for increased digitization around the globe. Pakistan has been no different as businesses, from large-scale industries to a new wave of entrepreneurial micro-businesses, continue to explore the ways with which they can operate their operations successfully and survive these unprecedented times.

When it comes to providing affordable digital tools to the masses, the telecom sector and the government’s support in terms of alleviating the tax burden on data services play a crucial role in helping to materialize the dream of a #DigitalPakistan.

Seeing as there is a lack of affordability when it comes to smartphones, the recent widespread availability of Jazz Digit 4G smart feature phones points towards a step in the right direction regarding the efforts being made for digital inclusion in Pakistan. The trend for trying out different combinations for ice creams has begun a while back. You may have heard of oreo ice cream, churros ice cream rolls, but what we’ve come across now will blow your mind away!

This Ramadan, an ice-cream parlour in Lahore by the name of Chaudairy Ice-cream has introduced the most bizarre ice-cream combinations you’ve ever seen or heard of! They began with samosa flavoured ice-cream roll-ups, channa chaat ice-cream, spring rolls, Dahi Baray and the weirdest combination, Pakora Ice-cream.

We’ve always known ice cream to be sweet, however, we suppose, since the entire world is cooped up indoors, it has given people the time to get creative. Not sure this creativity is what we need though!

Audi A6 E-Tron Luxury Executive Sedan Revealed

There may not be a lot of people who fail to recognize an Audi vehicle when they see one. Those four rings at the front can be seen from a distance or up close to both. Despite the numerous brands of today, Audi stands as a unique one among them. It has robust vehicles, powered by the most spectacular engines and motors. Where there is Audi, there is also their E-Tron series.

Like many brands of today, e-Tron is the sub-brand under which Audi manufactures and releases its fully electric vehicles. Even if you’re a fan of Audi combustion engine cars, you may still be quite surprised when you see an electric being driven around. Now, the Volkswagen Audi Group (VAG) has just revealed a new vehicle to the world, with astonishing features and quite a lot to offer. This is going by the name of Audi E-Tron A6. Yes, it is one of the A series vehicles, but without an engine in them.

We are not talking about the petrol-driven one here, rather the electric one. It is a sedan that has a slightly compact but stretched-out shape. It fits the sedan category quite well and looks dashing from the pictures that are circulating the internet. We must note one thing here and that is that the vehicle is luxurious.

It actually comes under the luxury executive tag and it deserves to be there, considering what it offers. Talking about underneath the hood, the vehicle packs a 100 kWh battery pack. This has the potential to give the vehicle about 700 kilometres on a single charge. That seems like quite an impressive number and one which can give Tesla hard competition.

Many other vehicle brands are entering the electric era and Audi wants to be one of them. Just recently, we came to know about the development of electric cars in Toyota’s factories. Now, we are hearing that brands like Mercedes and Jaguar are also joining the race, one at a time. The world is moving towards an electric era and no one wants to be left behind when the bubble does pop.

Hoping for a future

There are a lot of new features in the Audi A6 e-Tron and all of them deserve to be there. The car is an executive luxurious sedan and contains everything that makes it executive. Additionally, it has a digital projector-based front headlight. Both of them can display various pictures on a garage door or a wall, for entertainment. Apart from that, drivers can also use those projectors to play games, made by Audi, on the same garage door.

We are aware that Audi is rising and now we know the pace of it too. They are coming up quite fast. Pretty soon, we may come face to face with Audi vehicles with a lot of technology embedded within them. The A6 e-Tron also uses the latest advancements in technology and it is expected of the vehicle.

HEC Grand Challenge Fund 2021 Applications Are Opening Soon

If we want the country to develop, we have to make sure that education is not being neglected. There is quite a lot that a person can miss out on if they don’t have an education. When it comes to the government, expensive education is not even an issue. Some schools are willing to teach for free, considering there is a spirit in the student, to learn. In light of that, the HEC has come up with a new challenge.

This challenge is based around the faculty members of private and public institutions and holds quite a lot of potential. Despite there being a lot of education lacking in the country, this is a great opportunity. The higher education commission (HEC) has recently come up with a grand challenge fund for 2021. Under this challenge, the faculty members are to submit research proposals. So what is that all about?

HEC Challenge Fund:

The GCF supports a lot of large and multidimensional research projects. Those projects that are multidimensional are usually quite huge in scope. This is so other research teams can collaborate with them. This can be a good way to get a grand for the university or institution. The GCF also supports research development in quite a lot of strategic sectors. This includes human capital, agriculture, urban planning, climate change and environment and many more.

Allowing faculty members to submit proposals will also give them the chance to polish their research skills. The sectors also include technology and telecom and we know how fast those fields are moving. It would not be too far from the truth if one were to research 6G technologies. The world is changing rapidly and we need minds that are willing to put in the hard work. It takes quite a lot of effort to do research and then come up with a proposal of your own.

Setting funds aside:

The HEC has decided to set funds aside for this very reason. If anyone’s research proposal were to make it across to the second phase, a lot is waiting for them. There is going to be a competitive, peer-reviewed evaluation of the proposals so we know they will be in competent hands.

There will be no suspicious activities taking place and we hope the results will be clean. HEC has made a statement to provide funds ranging between Rs.15 million and Rs.225 million. These shall be provided to the selected institutes that make it across the proposal evaluation.

We hope that this encourages a lot of universities to participate in it. After all, it is not all year round that people get opportunities like these. This can be a good way to further the development of education in Pakistan by allowing newer research sectors. The more we move forward, the better it can be for the coming generation. They may not have to go through the hardship of working on something from absolute scratch.
