5 Beauty Tips For Healthy Skin In Summer

syra-yousuf'

There’s nothing like a summer filled with warm days of exercising or chilling out by the beach to get you feeling great about yourself. But as the days get shorter and we head into fall you can still hold on to that inner (and outer) glow. Here’s how.

1. Exfoliate

Exfoliation is the best way to keep your skin perky and healthy-looking as we change seasons. Regular dry brushing will get rid of dead skin cells and also get your circulation flowing and lymphatic system moving, which in turn will keep you looking bright eyed and bushy tailed. Try this Cactus Brush from The Body Shop ($19.95) to get into the habit.

EXFOLIATE

A body scrub such as the new Peter Thomas Roth Strawberry Scrub Fruit Enzyme Polisher ($38 for 8oz) or the new Lush Cup O’ Coffee mask for face and body ($5.95 for 5.2oz) will also help brighten the complexion. Alternatively, try a detoxifying soap like the Jack Black Turbo Body Bar Scrubbing Soap ($15), designed to energize and soothe after sports — perfect if your muscles are feeling the strain after weeks of beachside yoga.

6 Ways To Maintain Your Detox Program

Another option for sloughing off all those dull-looking top layers of skin is using an exfoliating toner to smooth out skin. Clarins’s Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner ($39 for 4.2 oz) is a classic.

2. Hydrate

You’ve heard it a thousand times, but great skin starts on the inside. Stay hydrated as the weather changes by drinking lots of water to keep your skin looking nice and plump.

3. Nourish

When it comes to nutrition, foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids such as walnuts, fish and soybeans, as well as those containing high amounts of vitamins A, C, and E such as eggs, yogurt, broccoli and spinach, will help to keep your complexion soft and supple.

4. Moisturize

Capitalize on your inner hydration with a body moisturizer such as the new Gucci Bamboo Body Lotion ($55, 6.7oz), whose exotic scent will keep you in a summery frame of mind.

moisturized skin

For the lazy, Jergens’s new Wet Skin In-Shower Moisturizer ($7.99 for 10oz) means you don’t even need to towel off before applying the cream.

5. Brighten

Finally, keep your eyes looking bright and alert with a serum such as the Perfectionist Youth-Infusing Brightening Serum + Concealer ($34 for 0.16oz) from Estée Lauder, which promises to smooth out uneven skin tones and dark circles, helping you to maintain that rested, just-back-from-vacation look for as long as possible.

Would You Ever Try Oranges In Your Instant Noodles?

Instant Noodles

Instant noodles are the safest and tastiest snacks but they are also the ones people experiment the most with. If they feel like eating something different they would pair the routine instant noodles with cheese or maybe chicken. All this creativity often comes out when you are craving creativity and food together at 2 am. But is that creativity always fruitful?

It seems not.

Surprise Element In Insant Noodles

There is one thing that the young generation does religiously, and that is posting their experiment on Twitter. Be it a creative success or a creative failure, the rest of the Twitterati are forced to look at these experiments. In recent times, it was them being forced to see oranges in soupy instant noodles!

Yep. Soupy. Instant. Noodles.

The creator wanted to create a comic parallel to prawn noodles. I want to ask them: Why? Why would you make such an atrocity and then post it on the internet for all to see?

I was not alone in this reaction. Twitter was raging with a similar opinion. They felt like they needed to sanitize their eyes because otherwise they would never be able to erase the abomination from their minds.

They wanted to unsee what they had seen. Well, good luck because images like these are here to plague our minds and there is no way back.

But are these experiments and food combinations really that unexpected?

Recently, we have come across numerous food combinations that strike us as strange. So for instance, you must have heard about the strawberry biryani. And someone in your family most definitely will be found eating biryani with sugar. We also need to mention the most recent encounter with another food combination that happened in front of our eyes; someone mixed biryani with zarda. I mean, how bizarre!

Karachi: May 26, 2021 – UNIVERSAL NETWORK SYSTEMS LIMITED (BlueEX) is the first courier & logistics service company in Pakistan that has collaborated with a leading lending and financial services institution, Finja Lending Services Limited (FLSL) a subsidiary of Finja Inc. to offer credit collections from FLSL’s customers; specifically, Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) / Karyana Stores, across the country. With a proven record of highest quality of services by both entities, the partnership promises expertise and competitive advantage for these specialized operations and will open new vistas for more innovative ventures. UNSL (BlueEx) has signed up for Finja Business – a digital business operations platform to manage its payment disbursements and e-invoicing/collections for its own business vendors, suppliers and partners.

Being a trendsetter in advanced logistics in the country – BlueEx consequently won the “Brands of the Year” award in 2019 and 2020. Over the years, it has pioneered e-Commerce logistics and fulfillment services in addition to deploying the first-of-its-kind ‘Online Parcel-Booking System’ since 2011. Within a few years of its formation, BlueEx has established the most credible and efficient cash-on-delivery network across Pakistan. All these services are based on revolutionary technological solutions that ensures world-class customer-care and unrivalled accuracy.

Backed by global venture capital firms, Finja is a leading new-age lending platform serving the credit, payments and collection needs of professionals, merchants and SME businesses. Finja’s subsidiaries operate under dual licensing regimes of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and the Securities Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) for its lending and digital payments businesses. With this first-of-its-kind support from both regulators, Finja has forged digital partnerships with banks, FMCGs, distributors, karyana stores, and small businesses. The company has clocked close to Rs. 150 Billion in transactional volume and over Rs. 2 Billion in overall lending.
This local network of Karyana stores is an underserved segment that struggles to avail credit services from financial institutions. They need secured financial assistance to maintain the required inventory-levels, especially during the preventive lockdowns and the global socio-economic disruption caused by the pandemic. The digital solution partnership developed by UNSL (BlueEx) and Finja will transform the financial capacity of the retail sector, by providing accessible financial services. This venture will also help in bringing this segment into the documented economy.

The Chief Executive Officer of UNSL (BlueEx) – Mr. Imran Baxamoosa stated: “This partnership is the evidence of our commitment to provide tailor-made services that suit our clients’ needs. It will open many new vistas for a digital Pakistan. BlueEx is building operational alliances with dynamic partners like Finja, for technological deployment to create more value and convenience for customers and enable exponential growth through our combined lending and logistics services, to achieve our shared vision for a progressive Pakistan.”

Mr. Kamran A. Zuberi (CEO, FLSL) remarked: “This partnership excites us as it allows our borrowers an ability to repay their credit facilities from their existing locations instead of having to visit a bank branch. This allows Finja to reach out to a customer segment across the country and throughout the retail value chain. Using Finja’s advance credit scoring engine and proprietary Machine Learning tools, we are servicing SMEs and MSMEs through structured B2B credit-lines along with advance payment platforms for FMCGs and Distributors to retailers. Finja welcomes this partnership and in its true spirit also offers UNSL (BlueEx) employees exclusive Finja Cards backed by a salary advance credit-line, providing financial freedom to cater to their individual spending requirements.”

What Has Been Your Biggest Learning In A Year Of Remote Working?

We spoke to some people in the Brainchild & Starcom regarding their remote working experiences and this is what they had to say:

Farhan Khan – Chief Executive Officer, Brainchild

Human beings are the most adaptable species on earth and that’s been established during the pandemic.

We thought without going to the office, meeting people in person close or far, every business will halt. But we have been proven wrong.

Pandemic taught us on an emotional level how to manage our Health & Well Being, Work Life Balance & Empathy & on a professional level Adaptability, Agility & Independence.

We have navigated these turbulent times based on our learnings and came out to be winners both on business results and keeping our teams intact.

There is no playbook to follow so we need to be agile to keep adapting the new normal!

Benish Irshad – Chief Operating Officer, Starcom

Pandemic taught me many things, personally. I learned that my husband can cook very decently without cluttering. I learned managing home schooling for both of my kids is tougher than working from home. Hands down, I give up! I learned I’m good at last minute art homework and proof-reading writing assignments. I learned that my elder one needs an average of 7 calls (tone ranging from gentle to yelling) to lift his head off the computer & respond to me. No, I did not learn to bake or made dalgona coffee.

I learned I like the discipline of working from the office.

But most of all, I realized how grateful I am – for being close to my loved ones at home, for defying all odds to co-exist with each other like never before, 24/7. How work can be managed remotely. How pitches can be won online. How grateful I am for technology as an enabler. I truly learned the power of empathy, patience, and compassion. The joy from giving more, from forgiving, from letting go of what can’t be controlled. I learned to be better!

Fatima Hyder – Chief Strategy Officer

While I enjoy the discipline that going to a separate destination for work creates, I have found that productivity doesn’t need to be destination-based. Humans can adapt to anything – and if anything, being at home and having to manage house distractions whilst working has enabled people to become even more focused and results-oriented.

Having a constant reminder of “home – life” has made it harder for people to ignore it and they are now working harder towards striking a healthy balance. Let’s face it – I want to spend as much of my time with my loved ones at home and having them in my face constantly is a reminder that I need to get my tasks done in a more efficient manner so that I can maximize that. As a result, this has made me a generally happier and more patient person – which in turn has benefited the work I do and the relationships with those I work with – a real butterfly effect!

Urooj Hussain – Head of Mediavest

In the past year, I have learned that working from home vs office has its pros and cons. Working from home is best for deep work (making presentations, working on financial numbers, analysis, etc) whereas work from the office is best for training, meetings, and team collaborations. A rotation plan where everyone can work from the office at least 2 weeks a month keeps things optimal. Also: invest in a second screen (desk monitor) at home can do wonders for productivity!

Saud Umar – Portfolio Director

Working from home during a pandemic was a unique experience for me, where our dependency on being physically present in an office space was minimized. Along with it came our adoption of technology even more. Client meetings, regional connections, pitch work were some of the activities that we always deemed would be best executed in-person. The pandemic paved the way for us to embrace the technology like never before.

Day-to-day activities, client requirements, team meetings, everything was happening via audio-video connects. I believe the work that we did during this time, with all the restrictions and hurdles, was much more appreciated by our clients. We even won a major pitch in Lahore without even meeting the client team even once; and were able to sustain the current client relationships in a positive manner.

The pandemic showed us that we can conserve energy – whether it is the daily use of our vehicles, office spaces or utilities – in a much more environmentally friendly way.

Syed Naqi Haider Zaidi – Chief Financial Officer

Initially, during the lockdown, when we were forced to work remotely, it was quite a challenge. Besides supervision, communication, and following up from individuals for the task the other problem was to maintain the work-life balance. There are no specific working hours, we end up just working the entire day. No routine, nothing! It was difficult to assess and manage teams. The soft skills gap was evident, teams were generally been disappointed by how they have been supported on mental wellbeing.

For me, it was clear that the work life is not going to return “normal” anytime soon. I realized it before the pandemic struck. So, we adapted and tried to live with the situation. Off course, there was benefits also that we start appreciating, like the creativity increased because there were fewer distraction, daily commute to office saves time and energy so more focus was given to work. In between this, I feel the opportunity we now have to “reset normal” is one which we shouldn’t waste.

Investment in technological advancement is the key, as the reliance on technology to get our work done has increased rapidly and is increasing every day. I believe each company must balance the needs of its employees and its organizational goals to come up with an answer of what suits them best. I will however always prefer working from Office!

“If you love your work, you’d rather go to the office and look for the perfect setting,”

Fizzah Shahid – Associate Director

I write this from a mandatory 14-day quarantine which makes it much easier to reflect on the past year, as it adequately represents how our personal and professional lives have changed.

The past year has truly showcased our ability to adapt and to accept new things as the norm which one would have never thought possible; for example, putting that one office colleague on mute #iykyk

On a more serious note, in the past year, we have truly come to learn that what matters most is how we can work together as a team regardless of where we may be, physically. The importance of showing ‘humanly’ traits of empathy and understanding in a work environment has never been more evident, much more than merely marking your attendance at 9 am and proceeding into the silo of ‘professionalism’.

The fact that we cannot take the world for granted and even in dire circumstances we can achieve the best with the right people around has made us value our personal and professional relationships more. Strangely enough, that has also made us realize the importance of socializing with our fellow professionals and having that office desk to work at. Whoever thought we’d miss the workplace this much?

Pakistani Girls Share The Type Of Guy One Should Marry

Girls Share The Type Of Guy One Should Marry

Pakistanis’ obsession over marriages will always stand out, no matter what. We, as Pakistanis, have endorsed the tradition of spending hefty amounts of money on the never-ending wedding celebrations and festivities, for a long time now. Apart from all the excitement, however, desi parents remain incredibly concerned about marrying off their daughters into appropriate households. Having their daughters divorced is still their worst nightmare.

However, in the conservative Pakistani society, Pakistani girls expressing their opinions on marriages and regarding their preferable marital partner is still frowned upon. Highly discouraged from talking openly about these issues and taking charge in such matters, Pakistani girls have taken their admiration of ending up with a perfect life partner and having a successful married life to Twitter.

Not All Girls Dream of Prince Charming

Not every girl wants a prince charming to get married to. Growing up listening to fairytales and chronicles about how strikingly handsome men rescue their ‘princesses,’ and then drooling over unrealistic Bollywood love stories such as Hum Tum, Kal Ho Na Ho, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, and Dil To Pagal Hai, to name a few, a lot of girls do draw impractical expectations for their marital lives.

However, not every girl thinks this way. Reality kicks in eventually with time changing the way young girls view their life, putting an end to their quest of finding their prince charming.

This became apparent when girls on Twitter preferred talking about their potential partner’s mannerisms and behavior rather than his financial stability and looks. Young ladies chanted how the ideal marital partner for them would be respectful towards women and their families.

Here is what they had to say:

However, others disagreed and drew the drape off the other, rather gloomy, side of the Pakistani society and the mainstream Pakistani mindset.

They commented:

Pakistani Men Barge In

And of course, feeling the need to present their opinions, our brothers had to barge in to represent the Pakistani men’s community. While some played the victim and outright rejected the stance, others declared that a person’s true self could only be unleashed after observing them closely and spending enough time with them.

In our society, this is only possible after the knot is tied. Hence, nobody can fully judge their potential partner beforehand, and once the knot is tied, there is no u-turn.

Anyhow, the mindset of young girls is changing for the better. In today’s age, the fundamental requirement of Pakistani girls for their husband-to-be is for him to be compassionate, understanding, loving, and, most of all “respectful” not only towards his wife but towards all the stakeholders of the relationship.

Hence, the long-held adage, ‘nice guys finish last,’ should be put off the table since guys who are genuinely nice and compassionate are very much in demand now.

What qualities would you look for in your potential spouse? Do you think it is possible to judge a person entirely before tying the knot?  Let us know in the comment section below.

Syra Yousuf Hit Back At A Troll Like A Queen & We Love It

Syra Yousuf

Talented and beautiful actress, Syra Yousuf does few acting projects but her modeling work continues to roll in. She had done an exquisite photoshoot with Sheheryar Munawwar where she made us fall in love with her green outfit. She carries every look, be it western or eastern, in the best manner. As expected, however, she has to face trolls who are not very nice.

Syra in her recent Zara Shahjahan

This is exactly what happened when Syra started posting her pictures in Zara Shahjahan’s dresses. Dressed in Bridal wear, she was rocking the dresses. I mean take a look at the beauty!

Aren’t the dresses and the lady in them just very pretty?

Trolls on her photo

But someone on Instagram didn’t think so. They wanted to troll the celebrity. But the words they chose to troll weren’t the best choice. They chose to troll her by calling her a maasi. Now, technically, this word signifies a profession. It is what you call your female domestic labour. Every profession deserves respect and those who choose to believe that a profession of a lower socioeconomic class is unworthy need to be lectured. He said that in this dress you look like our maid.

Syra Yousuf responds to the troll

But our beloved Syra handled it with grace and very subtly schooled the troll as well.

She responded that she would like to say hi to his maid who clearly is her twin in looks. If you pay attention, you will see how she did not take this as an insult at all which tells other people that a ‘maid’ is not an insult.

Even in the past, Syra has handled the situation in a similar manner. She does not respond to hate with hate which is why she has been able to maintain an image that gathers respect from most of the industry and the fans.

Do you recall when Syra posted a picture that showed her no filter skin? People bashed her on not having fully clear skin. After a lot of trolling, she took to her Instagram stories only one caption, “I really like my skin.”

Respect for her then and now increased manifolds.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is the one leading the arrest. It seems that the owners were involved in money laundering as well as the smuggling of mobile phones. Additionally, they were smuggling other electronic devices too. This seems like quite shocking news and one that is sure to drop the jaws of our audience. Let us dive a bit into the details of the case.

Online Store Laundering

The owners of Telemart are also the owners of MyMobile. They go by the names of Abdul Rauf Essa and his two sons; Ahmed Abdul Rauf Essa and Hamza Abdul Essa. It seems that they had been smuggling mobiles and other electronic devices out of the country for a while now. They had been doing it through illegal means of money laundering. Telemart was also selling these smuggled mobile phones to their customers.

They were selling them through the online e-commerce website. Additionally, they were using forged accounts to make payments on illegal mobile phones. They had landed themselves in hot water when they started doing this but now it has become apparent. There is complete transparency on the fact that they have indeed been laundering money and smuggling phones.

The Case Reports

The first FIR report states that the Telemart owners were laundering with the help of bank officials. This fraud has cost a loss of millions of rupees to the Government Exchequer. The fake accounts used for payments have also been attached in the FIR report, alongside the case of arrest.

As mentioned above, some bank officials have been part of the forged accounts and have been in coalition since the start. Apparently, they had been helping the owners launder money for quite a while now. We even have the FIR attached here for you,

Respiratory Disease In Chickens Spreads Throughout Pakistan

The pandemic spread throughout the world in 2020. With vaccines rolling out, however, we assumed that things would go back to normal. The year 2021, it seems, would not allow that. First, there was a volcano eruption in Congo, then a rat plague in Australia. And now, Pakistan is witnessing a respiratory disease spreading through poultry.

This infectious disease is called Coryza and it is already spread all over Pakistan. In fact, some of the poultry farms in Karachi have already closed down, ARY reported. The disease looks like the chicken has a common cold and respiratory problems.

The disease has also been reported in the United States, although the spread is not that viral there. Pakistan, in this regard, is more extensively hit with Coryza. Because of this, the prices are affected as well.

Looking at history, we can see that Pakistan’s chicken gets hit with diseases every now and then. Some time ago, it was bird flu, at another time it was yet another disease. And every time, the prices go down. So the poultry prices that had reached PKR 520 to 600 in the last week, are expected to go down once again.

Coryza – the disease n Chickens

Coryza is an infe4ctious disease that gives chicken respiratory issues. The changes witnessed in the chicken are nasal discharge, decreased activity, facial swelling, and sneezing.

It was being said that a similar disease was seen in quails and pheasants as well. However, that originates due to a bacterium different from the one that leads to Coryza. Coryza is only affecting chickens,

Coryza, even though, is not transferable to humans but people are still scared to buy chicken. Let’s see what happens now.

Who Will Get Vaccinated First In Pakistan?

A few weeks back, the government and policy-makers came up with a framework and procedures to get the work on getting people vaccinated for the coronavirus started. The vaccination drive, as per initial reports would be commenced soon and will consist of three phases.

The Ministry of National Health and Services of Pakistan revealed that the country would be vaccinating the people through the traditional injection. The initial two doses would be injected on the person’s arm and would be injected with a margin of three to four weeks between them.

The Ministry’s official Twitter account revealed the information.

As soon as details started to come out regarding the arrival of vaccines to Pakistan, many were eager to learn who will be the first amongst the people to get vaccinated. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Dr. Faisal Sultan, announced that the frontline health care workers would be the priority when the vaccine arrives. He also revealed that in the next phase, people above the ages of 65 and other healthcare workers would be prioritized, and after that, people above the age of 60 and 18 would be vaccinated.

The vaccine would be distributed through the EPI (Extended Programme On Immunization). As per the government officials’ claims, the process would be streamlined via software, and as many as 400,000 healthcare workers have been registered so far through the program.

Imran Khan Officially Launched The Vaccination Programme

Soon after the news regarding the vaccination arriving in Pakistan reached, people were eager to see how the prime minister would respond to it. The first batch of the Covid 19 vaccines arrived from China yesterday, and Prime Minister Imran Khan launched the program officially and inaugurated the commencement of the protocols.

Many people are still expressing concerns and have speculated about how the program will turn out in the future despite the claims. Pakistani politicians, unfortunately, do not have a good track record when it comes to making promises to the public, and only time will tell how things will unfold in the future.

Noor Bukhari Shares A Horrifying Incident Of How She Was Stalked

noor bukhari

Often when celebrities leave the entertainment industry for whatever reason, they are forgotten; especially when it is for religion. But Noor Bukhari is a former Pakistani actress who defied the stereotype. She showed the country that said she was here to stay and no one could prove her wrong. Well, she had to recently face an instance that showed her the negative side of being popular.

Noor Bukhari meets a stalker

She posted on her Instagram stories that a woman came to meet her. She claimed that she followed Noor on her Instagram. Seeing the stories, she figured out where Noor’s house was. And by tracing the steps, she reached Noor to meet her.

She must have thought that Noor would find it sweet, her effort. But Noor got scared. She says that she doesn’t meet anyone and especially not at her house. So by that definition, the woman who met her was a stalker.

Analyzing it

Usually what happens is that women have suffered too much harassment at the hands of men that if it is someone from the same gender, they feel at ease. But stalking is irrespective of gender. Just because women feel more at ease around other women doesn’t mean they can stalk anyone as per their likes.

Before people get offended, let’s analyze what stalking is. Literally, it stands for unwanted surveillance by an individual or a team. In this case, the women surveilling Noor Bukhari.

stalking your ex

Since she did not sanction it or was made aware of a random woman tracing her stories, this would be classic stalker behavior.

There are two lessons to be learned here:

First of all, we need to be more aware of what stalking is. Secondly, celebrities are also normal people. They have the right to their lives. Moreover, a home is a very personal habitat. Violating that space and right is something extremely unethical. So let’s be a little better, shall we?

4 Famous Pakistanis Who Were Caught Swearing On Live Television

Source: Express Tribune

We all have our favorite celebrities, don’t we? The ones we look up to with glee, respect, and admiration.

But let’s face it – celebrities are human beings just like the rest of us. They have their good moments and their bad moments. They may have times where everything is glorious, and they may have moments where they experience a total fall from grace, and that is not pretty at all.

Sometimes, the best way to express anger or frustration as well as to insult or offend others is just to let it all out by using a variety of so-called bad language.

In other words, sometimes, swearing or cursing is just the way to go. This is true for both real life and in the movies.

Let’s have a look at a few of the renowned names who were caught swearing on TV. Don’t forget, these are just a few of many that made to out list due to their baffling arguments.

1. Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar

The popular writer has been labeled as a misogynist and woman-hater by countless people and his views on female empowerment are honestly ambiguous. His recent tiff with Marvi Sermad spread like a wildfire when he called her a ’b*tch’ on live TV.

2. Mushahidullah Khan and Fawad Chaudrhy

A war of words erupted between PTI members like Federal Science and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry and PML-N’s Senator Mushahidullah Khan during the joint session of Parliament on not too long ago.

3. Mufti Naeem and Uzma Bukhari

Here’s another quarreling duo who made it to our list. Words like jahil aurat and shut up became the highlight of this video.

4. Mustafa Kamal and Zaeem Qadri

The two had a heated argument on live TV where the foul language was used and the both Pakistani politicians turned into a source of entertainment for the masses which is quite disappointing.

5. Waqar Zaka

Zaka has been under the limelight since his ’living on edge days’ and there’s no surprise that he manages to garner attention one way or the other. Well, there’s no bad publicity, right?

Do you have more people to add to this list? Let us know in the comments below.

Designer Tabassum Mughal In Hot Waters For Copying International Brands

international brands

Tabassum Mughal, a Pakistani designer, is known for her amazing clothing line. She is known all over the entertainment industry with her clothes being worn by celebrities as well. However, it has come to our attention that she might just be plagiarising the fashion lines of international brands.

Zimmermann & Tabassum

Fashion Label attributed to the Australian designer of the same name featured its spring collection in 2020. Look closely at the design of the bodice and trouser in the image below. It does look pretty but it is not something that you can wear in Pakistan. The recent PDA in-flight issue reiterates that. So if you really like it, you can only wear it, either abroad or by making it undergo cultural appropriation.

Et voila! Tabassum Mughal does that for you. In her Tabassum Mughal Luxury Collection ’21, you will find the models donning a dress replicating Zimmermann’s design. It is not a bodice anymore rather a kurta, and neither is see-through. The model wears it with a trousers.

It makes one genuinely wonder if the designers here are capable of coming up with novel ideas or not. Anyway, if it was a one-time thing, one would consider letting it go. But it seems that Tabassum Mughal has made it the go-to thing; copying international brands.

Here is Why!

Dolce and Gabbana & Tabassum Mughal

In the image below, on the right, you can see a dress by Tabassum Mughal. The lace around the collar is probably our national lace by now. Anyway, as you can see the dress on the right is very similar to the dress on the left. The latter, however, is not by Tabassum but by an Italian designer, Dolce & Gabbana. Tabassum presents to you yet another form of cultural appropriation.

How ethical do you think it is to copy international brands just because most of the audience does not follow those brands?

Pakistani Couple Accused of PDA In-Flight, Memes Go Viral

PDA In Flight

Two days ago, a man took to social media his encounter with PDA in flight when he was traveling in the early morning. He said that he was traveling with his family so seeing this PDA made him uncomfortable. Hoping to get out of discomfort, he asked the staff for help. The air hostess on duty got the Pakistani couple a blanket.

PDA In Flight

The news went viral, people made fun of it but someone raised a very important point. Understandably, given our culture people spoke against PDA. But would they do the same had they seen someone harassing a woman?

Moreover, these same people would not speak up but instead avert their eyes were they to witness a man hitting his wife. The explanation they would give would be ‘it is their personal matter’.

Is that what we want to teach our future generation? That when a woman gives consent to being loved, it should raise eyes but if she is treated like property, we shall not speak up about it?

Memes Go Viral

What we Pakistanis do intelligently is tackling a major issue through memes. It lightens the situation and people are more willing to engage in debates. In this matter as well, Pakistanis were ready with their memes.

And man, has this tweet hit right on the target? Sunil Shetty’s expression is too similar to the person who was criticizing PDA.

Considering the trending series and movies on Netflix are all about intimate scenes, this meme shows how popular Airblue would be right now.

The best one yet is the PEMRA tweet. Seeing as to how PEMRA shuts down dramas where PDA is even hinted, Pakistanis were suggesting how the air hostess should be the one heading the organization now.

Long story short, Twitter was full of people pro and against the couple doing PDA in flight.

Which meme did you like the best? Let us know in the comments.

Spotify And Apple Watch:

It has long been discussed that Apple watches don’t have Spotify offline features. They have stated that this feature is missing and would be quite useful to Apple watch users. Well, now they don’t have to look much further due to the latest update. Spotify has added support for Apple watch music streaming.

Now you can use your watch to listen to the playlists that you have made on your Spotify account. Rather than pulling out your phone every time you wish to play a song, pull out your watch. Of course, this requires a phone connection to Spotify as well as the watch. The watch cannot function as a playback device just on its own.

Interesting Updates

Apple Watch users can control the playback from any device using the watch. It seems that Spotify really has opened up a lot of ease of access for its users. They no longer have to complain about not being able to use the watch for Spotify. Additionally, you can even open up and listen to your favourite podcasts using this feature.

However, it must be noted that the offline option can only be availed by premium users. So if you are a Spotify free-tier user, we suggest you upgrade if you want to go offline. There are a number of steps you can take to download music to your Apple watch. Here is how,

  • Select your intended playlist, music, podcast
  • Press the three dots on the corner
  • Click on ‘Download to Apple Watch’
  • You can check your progress on the download. Once it is complete, a green arrow will appear next to it.

Unilever On A Mission To Make Recyclable Toothpaste Tubes

unilever toothpaste

With increasing global warming, it is everyone’s responsibility to contribute to saving the world. It seems Unilever is taking that step. The company is introducing recyclable toothpaste tubes.

We were already able to refill our handwash plastic bottles. This reduced our carbon footprint. But when it comes to squeezing toothpaste onto the toothbrush, you are forced to replace it. And there was nothing you could do about it.

Unilever on Toothpastes

Samir Singh, Executive Vice President, Global Skin Cleansing and Oral Care said: “Plastic pollution is undoubtedly one of the biggest environmental challenges of our time. We can see its impact on our planet every day, including the billions of toothpaste tubes dumped into landfills every year.”

With Unilever’s new recyclable toothpaste tubes, you can make the situation better.

He added:

“That’s why I’m proud of this latest packaging innovation which will see our entire toothpaste portfolio shift to recyclable tubes by 2025. It’s been a long and challenging journey to get to this point, but we hope this transformation will inspire the wider industry to also make the change.”

The FMCG company, Unilever, has numerous oral care brands in the portfolio. Through these very brands namely Signal, Pepsodent, and Closeup, they will make all the tubes recyclable by 2025. In fact, the tubes will enter the French and Indian markets by the end of this year. In France, it will be through the brand, Signal.

Recyclable toothpaste tube: going into the details

Currently, aluminum and plastic compose toothpaste tubes. These ingredients allow the tube to be flexible. But the ingredient does not allow for recycling. The new tubes will replace aluminum with High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE). HDPE is considered the most widely recyclable plastic globally. Being the thinnest plastic material at 220 microns, the need for plastic in each tube will also decrease.

What’s incredible is that Unilever will not keep this innovation with itself but also encourage other parties to adapt.

Unilever comments

Babu Cherian, R&D Oral Care Packaging Director at Unilever said: “Recyclable tubes mark a key milestone in our packaging journey. And, more significantly, they have the potential to transform the whole oral care industry. Together with our manufacturing partners, we’re making the new design available to any producers interested in adopting the new material.”

Unilever

Alan Conner, Vice President – Europe, EPL (formerly Essel Propack) said: “When it comes to making oral care sustainable, it has been challenging to develop a product that is recyclable without adding extra plastic to the tube. EPL is a global market leading supplier of toothpaste tubes and is delighted to support this breakthrough innovation representing a major turning point for the oral care industry and is a key first step in reducing plastic waste, enabling consumers to minimise their impact on the planet.”

He adds:

“Given the size and scale of Unilever, their commitment to convert 100% of its global toothpaste portfolio by 2025 will unquestionably lead others to take action as well.”

This step is in line with Unilever’s commitment announced earlier of ensuring that 100%of its plastic packaging is reusable, recyclable, or compostable.

Lahore – Tuesday, May 25, 2021: In a special meeting with His Excellency Mr. Ahmad Rabaie, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Mr. Ibrahim Hasan Murad, President of ILM Trust and UMT, has offered to donate a sum of US$100,000 for the Education and welfare of the Palestinian youth.
