While India is trying to recover from a devastating second wave of coronavirus infections, at the same time, thousands of Covid-19 patients in the country developed the deadly “black fungus” infection. Now other countries are also reporting cases of Black fungus, and Russia and Pakistan are also some of them.

On May 25, Bangladesh also reported its first death caused by black fungus.

What Is Black Fungus?

Black fungus, or mucormycosis, is a fungal disorder that can affect the nose and sinuses. However, from there, it can also spread to the eyes, lungs, and brain. It also affects the skin and the result of long-standing immunocompromised conditions.

Oxygen Cylinders; The Cause Of Mucormycosis?

Dr. Arif Raza, ENT chief at the Khyber Teaching Hospital, states, “Black fungus is spreading among several coronavirus patients as they are using substandard and old oxygen cylinders.”

In a letter to his medical facility’s administration, Dr. Raza said: 12 patients underwent sinus surgeries, and out of them, two were infected with “black fungus” during their COVID-19 recovery.

“We need to take special care while filling oxygen into cylinders.”

According to the reporters, the fungus can settle at the bottom of the oxygen cylinders due to a lack of cleanliness.

According to the health experts, “If oxygen cylinders given to COVID-19 patients are not cleaned regularly, spores of fungus will settle in them.”

realme 5G Summit Ends With A Commitment To Bring 5G Phones To 100 Million Young Consumers In Next Three Years

Lahore – Thursday, June 03, 2021: realme, the world’s fastest-growing smartphone brand, today announced at its inaugural 5G summit that it would enable 100 million young consumers to use 5G smartphones within the next three years. At the summit, which was held in partnership with GSMA, Counterpoint Research and Qualcomm, realme also revealed that new models in GT series, realme 5G performance and camera flagships, will be launched in June and July 2021, respectively, among several other corporate initiatives to promote 5G adoption globally.

With the theme “Making 5G Global: Affordability for the Masses”, the 5G summit brought together leaders from industry association, research institution, component vendor and device manufacturer to share their insights on several 5G topics: current global 5G connectivity – the driving forces behind it and the technical aspect to 5G evolution; the unique relationship between 5G and the younger generation; and how to further facilitate 5G accessibility in the future.

At the summit, realme reaffirmed its commitment to become a “popularizer of 5G” and shared its latest pledge to advance the adoption of 5G in global markets and bring the technology to more users worldwide. In 2020, realme launched 14 5G devices in 21 markets, accounting for around 40% of all its products. By 2022, the company aims to increase the number of its 5G offerings to over 20, upping the ratio to 70% across 50 markets. realme also plans to take the industry lead in launching a 5G mobile phone at a USD 100 price point in the next few years, a move that is set to further accelerate 5G adoption, especially across the rapidly emerging economies.

Madhav Sheth, VP and CEO of India and Europe, realme, said at the summit, “Starting with our first 5G model, the realme X50, we have been exploring new design concepts and technical innovations to bring users more slimline and design-rich 5G phones that have a powerful performance. We believe that in the 5G era, helping to accelerate the adoption of this new technology is a crucial mission for realme. We will work hard to help popularize 5G by listening more to consumers’ needs, pushing forward product innovation, and helping to build the broader 5G ecosystem with our industry partners.”

Johnny Chen, Brand Director, realme, added, “realme believes that 5G is for the younger generation – internet natives who are looking for ways to connect and express themselves beyond the physical world. As a brand that’s dedicated to young consumers, realme tries to listen carefully to what they expect from 5G technology and get them more involved in the process of creating a better 5G user experience. By empowering the young, we hope they can, in turn, become the forerunners of 5G adoption and help lead more people into the 5G era.”

In 2021, realme plans to set up more than ten 5G pop-up stores around the world allowing young people to create exclusive spaces where they can enjoy 5G experiences through cloud gaming, ultra-clear AR, live broadcasting and other popular 5G applications.

Also joining the summit was Kalvin Bahia, Principal Economist, GSMA Intelligence. He commented, “As of May this year, 60 countries around the world had launched 5G – 12 of them are emerging markets and mostly in Asia. While the growth of 5G coverage is encouraging, a survey by GSMA shows that other barriers remain for widespread adoption of the new technology amongst consumers, such as affordability of the devices, lack of digital literacy and skills, and costs of mobile data. But nevertheless, the transition to 5G is inevitable across the world, and 5G is expected to bring USD 600 billion to the global economy over the next decade.”

Peter Richardson, VP and Co-founder, Counterpoint Research agreed that the growth of 5G has been impressive and the rapid reduction in smartphone prices has been one of the main drivers. He noted, “By the end of last year, we saw some highly competitive 5G products offered at affordable prices in China, with realme being the most aggressive with its V3 5G selling at around USD 145. realme is helping to popularize the technology across many other countries with a series of compelling products with great specifications at surprisingly affordable prices.”

Mr. Rajen Vagadia, VP and President, Qualcomm India & SAARC said at the summit, “The upgrade to 5G chipsets pushes platform processing performance to remarkable levels, allowing us to maximize the step-change improvements we are seeing in today’s smartphone components and hardware. Just as important, we are delivering 5G to all tiers, ensuring it is accessible to broad segments across developed and emerging markets alike.”\

To support the global adoption of 5G products, realme will establish seven R&D centers around the world in 2021, dedicated to exploring innovative 5G technologies and products. At present, 90% of realme’s R&D resources have been converted to 5G technology and products. In the next two years, realme will invest USD 300 million globally in 5G technology research and product development, as well as in promoting global 5G popularization.

Sana Khan Claps Back At A Troll Who Questioned Her Hijab

Sana Khan Was Questioned Over Her Choice Of Hijab On Latest Instagram Post

Being a woman in the world means getting questioned every day about your choice of clothes, profession, and how you intend to live your life in general. The idea behind questioning women does not stem from cultural values; instead, it is engraved in people’s minds because they like to scrutinize and comment on someone else’s life choices.

Every day we tend to hear the same things over and over again. Celebrities are no different than us. But, while being in the spotlight, they are more on target of getting objectified and scrutinized. And the same situation happened this time with Sana Khan.

Sana Khan Quits Bollywood

Last year Sara announced her marriage to scholar Mufti Anas Saiyad and planned to preach Islam. She quit Bollywood in the same hopes the previous year. She also started wearing hijab at the same time. At the same time, people were quick to question her values at that time. It seems like people are still not over the fact, as she came across such a comment recently.

Sana’s Latest Post On Instagram

Recently, a comment was posted on her social media where her choice of hijab was questioned. The troll was quick to relate her choice of hijab with education and asked,

“What is the point of getting this much education if you are going to cover your head like everyone?”

In response to the comment, Sara replied, “If, despite wearing a veil, I can do my business, have amazing in-laws and a husband, what more [do] I want? And [I] have completed my education, too. So isn’t this a win-win situation?”

Looking at Sana’s response, we hope that the troll understood why you must not question anyone regarding them preaching their values and religion.

In a world where we are constantly scrutinized, it takes a little empathy and kindness to make someone’s day, so you are tempted to leave such a comment the next time. Think first!

Here’s How This Man Became Rich Using Credit Cards

credit cards

“Don’t get credit cards!”

You must have heard this statement at some point in life. It could be when you were sitting with people who are venting about their credit card bills. Or it could be when you told your parents about your plans if signing up for the cards.

Credit cards make you rich

Point is, not many people encourage getting credit cards because the idea behind it is, you will get wrapped into debts. And if you do not use it intelligently, it does happen. But have you ever heard of someone getting richer by using them? If you haven’t, you have come to the right place.

A physicist in the US came across this technique where you could use credit cards to earn money, and not just any money, but millionaire money.

credit cards

How does he do that?

The US physicist, Konstantin Anikeev, discovered the formula of cashback. When you make a purchase through a credit card, you earn a reward cashback. Using that formula, Anikeev bought gift cards through his credit card. He would then get his gift card exchanged for money which he would use to pay back the credit card. In the meantime, he would also get the cashback deposited on his credit card.

Let’s explain this to you with an example.

Anikeev bought a $500 gift card. He got a cashback of $25. When he went to encash the gift card, he had to pay a fee of $6. This way, he earned $19.

Now, he discovered this process in 2009. So from then on, he started doing this religiously. By now, he has made PKR 4.6 crore (USD 300,000). Someone noticed it by seeing an exponential increase in wealth (well, haters gon’ hate, I guess), and reported it to the Tax department.

He defended himself by showing tons of gift cards. The tax department has to work out the tax they will be receiving from him.

Government Might Slash Taxes On Automobiles

automobiles and slashing of taxes by govt

The world is seeing a dire time when it comes to the pandemic. Despite the administration of vaccines, we are seeing cases in a lot of places every day. Karachi has gone into a form of smart lockdown these days too. However, the vehicle industry is doing quite well. Automobiles are entering the county by the dozen. In light of this, the government of Pakistan might take a decision that will lift our spirits.

Among the many popular brands, Toyota and Honda are just some of them. New entries in the country include brands like MG, Proton as well as vehicle releases by Changan and Hyundai. There is another group making its way to Pakistan soon and we may just see even more brands here. You might not even recognize Pakistan from its vehicles because so many new ones are coming here.

tax slashing on automobiles

The Automobiles Decision By Government

According to sources, the government plans to slash taxes on vehicles that don’t exceed 800cc. The decision itself is said to apply both on imported and locally assembled vehicles. This is part of an initiative being taken by the Prime Minister. He wishes to see the middle-class drive compact vehicles. Due to duty and tax, the price of every vehicle can jump quite high. They can exceed our reach simply because the duty can be too high. However, under this initiative, the duty might reduce by about 63%!

That is a substantial decrease and this means a more affordable vehicle. On locally assembled ones, the tax reduction might be by 7% or a bit more. This means that even our local vehicles can be within a slightly more affordable range. Despite there being a silicon chip shortage, doing this is a huge decision. People want to have a vehicle to drive because they have impressive features and note-worthy capabilities.

Automobiles Entering

First, we got to know that the government is cracking down on late vehicle deliveries. Now we find out about the tax reduction. It seems like a lot is pulling in the favour of the general public. Making more cars affordable means more generation of revenue. Additionally, it might also mean that fewer motorcycles on the road! On new imported cars, you may see a reduction of 2.5% of federal excise duty.

In addition to this, there is another piece of news for you today. You must be aware of how much the GST is these days. It is set at 17% and is imposed pretty much everywhere there is a sale. On the import of new cars, within the 800cc bracket, the GST might also be reducing. It is reducing from 17% to 12%, which can be a lot when we look at price numbers.

Duty Paying

The current duty and taxes, on vehicles, can total up to about 132%. Reducing it by 63% is sure to make some form of a dent.

Anti-Rape Bill 2020 Finally Gets Approved, Allowing Chemical Castration

chemical castration of rapists under anti-rape bill

There are many types of crimes and criminals loose in this world. Some of the crimes are of a heinous nature. Their nature is so heinous that it makes one wonder why someone would do this. Rape is an extremely heinous, disgusting, and inhumane act. It leaves one without a feeling in their soul. It can send people down a spiral of trauma and they may suffer for the rest of their lives. Punishments for rape should be as strict as they can be. A new Anti-Rape bill has now been passed.

Under the new law that been has been passed, some developments have taken place. Rape has become quite a widespread crime in recent years. It seems that the criminals have been getting more fearless due to a lack of justice. Now, they will have to move with more fear. They will have to buckle up because the long arm of the law is headed for them. Rapists are now going to be chemically castrated under this new anti-rape bill.

Passing The Anti-Rape Bill

While the bill was presented in 2020, it has now been properly passed. After much discussion, there was a vote. The bill passed with 8 votes in favour against 4. The four who refused the bill said it was going to have judicial complications as possible repercussions. However, one should understand that this is something that goes beyond. It shows that crime cannot move about as freely now.

The Ministry Of Law and Justice were the ones to draft his bill. It has come in light of the cases that have been revealed since last year. The cases were quite a lot and there were many that people don’t even know about. Some think that rape hasn’t taken place in years but they are wrong. What has happened is that the rape case has not been seen, but the crime itself has not slowed down. This anti-rape bill is intended to protect the victims of survivors of sexual assault.

Facing Justice

We hope that the wrong-doers are exposed to justice. The criminals have roamed free for too long now. In fact, many have committed the crime multiple times. It is time for them to face the consequences of their actions. They cannot move forward without knowing the families whose lives they destroyed. Justice has to be done.

Anyone who is now caught under this act, with a rape charge, will be subjected to chemical castration. If you wish to find out the details of what it is, you can always go through Google or YouTube. We hope that this anti-rape bill really does help in improving the conditions of society. Justice is something that is very much needed now.

5 Horror Speculations Of The On-Going Drama “Neeli Zinda Hai”

Are you a horror drama fan? When you start a horror drama, do you make speculations? Do you just love how the breeze on the ghost’s hair as the doors automatically open for them? Well, then, you are in luck. One of the Pakistani channels has recently started airing Neeli Zinda Hai.

Neeli Zinda Hai

Seeing Urwa Hocane on the title screen assures that the drama has an iconic cast. And when you start following the drama you’d see that everyone, even the young Minaal, has done a splendid job. Honestly, the way, Minaal got up and then smirked when her parents opened the chest full of bridal dresses was enough to tell you the child actor’s potential. Let me outline the characters first, though. There is Amaan (Mohib Mirza), wife Sumbul (Sonia Mishal), child Minaal (Tehreem), and the ghost Neeli (Urwa Hocane).

Today, we want to list down all the creepy speculations in the drama. So, are you ready?

1. Is Neeli a ghost?

Neeli aka Urwa Hocane is something supernatural for sure; possibly a jinn. When, in episode 2, she is checking out that chest full of dresses, Sumbul is not able to see her. Moreover, when in the teaser, Sumbul is scared of Neeli, Amaan cannot see her. But then, the drama also shows that in that chest, there is a photograph too. The photograph shows Neeli as a bride, sitting with, possibly, her husband. Does that mean, she is a ghost? And if she is, is she an evil ghost? At least, the teaser suggests that.

Neeli Zinda Hai

2. Are there two horror elements?

Occasionally, what we see is that when you have a bhoot (poltergeist) story to tell, you do not feature jinns. A case in point will be the horror drama Bela Pur Ki Dayan. And if it is only a jinn story then there are no poltergeists (ghosts). A case in point is Mala Mir. But does this specific drama have both? I ask this because (a) I would totally want to see that, and (b) it seems legit speculation.

Let’s explore this further. We have established that Neeli is a ghost because, at one time, she was a human. But they also show that the super possessive mother-in-law obsessed with her son has found her way to a creepy baba; people who claim to have jinns in possession. What if she contracts a jinn against Sumbul, the daughter-in-law?

Neeli Zinda Hai

Of course, this may not be the right speculation. It could totally be that the baba would make humans more vulnerable to the effects of Neeli.

3. Does Neeli possess people or does she take on other’s shapes?

We have already seen, in episode 2, some crazy occurrences around Minal. We saw how Minal was in that storeroom with the doll. Her expressions, when that chest opened and the parents discarded the content in it, did not seem like Minal’s.

In another instance, when the chair clearly starts rocking by itself, Sumbul sees it as if Minal was rocking it.

She holds her by the hand and takes her to the lawn outside. For a minute, her attention diverts, and Minal is yet again, nowhere in sight. A few seconds later, Minal has her hands wrapped around her mommy. Who can explain the spatial fallacy here?

Need we mention the time when less than ten years old Minal is grazing her fingers over the railing of the staircase and the piano as if she owned it. Of course, her father has bought it so she owns it but when Minal entered the house for the first time, her posture was very different.

So has she possessed Minal or is she in Minal’s form?

4. Did the ghost kill the electrician?

The most creepy speculation is that Neeli killed the electrician.

Amaan had called an electrician and left him unattended in the house. When he returns, he finds that not only the electrician has left his toolbox but also one of his slippers. It can be that the electrician ran away but the next day, he did not even open his shop.

If Neeli has indeed killed him, then she is definitely evil!

5. Is Sumbul in danger?

It seems that Neeli is present alongside them. And she is observing how they are behaving in ‘her’ house. Sumbul has felt that presence and yet, out of fear, she chose to throw away a doll that mysteriously appeared in the kitchen. Minal, or Neeli, was not pleased.

Could it be that Sumbul is now in danger?

Disclaimer: I haven’t yet watched today’s episode of Neeli Zinda hai, so this is only for up to 2 episodes and all the teasers.

Huawei Launches Its New Operating System HarmonyOS For Its Phones

huawei harmonyOS

Huawei is eyeing the ‘Internet-of-Things’ market. Is that a far-sighted venture or simply fluff?

New Harmony

China’s famous Huawei Technologies recently launched their Harmony operating system for smartphones.

The use of HarmonyOS is a big win for the company. This means that Huawei will no longer be totally reliant on Android or Google Support. Since the U.S. sanctions banned Google and Android from providing technical support to new Huawei creations, Huawei has experienced setbacks. The models and apps of Huawei were rendered dysfunctional since they are linked to the bundle of services now banned.

huawei harmonyOS

The HarmonyOS is being created as an ‘Internet-of-Things’ platform. Its essential aim is directed towards operating on and connecting other devices such as laptops, smartwatches, cars, and appliances.

A Response to War?

Huawei, China’s leading telecommunications equipment maker, landed on a U.S. trade blacklist in May 2019. The US believed Huawei posed national security risks. Huawei even repeatedly denied it is a risk yet to no avail.

This new development is essentially a response to the US bans. Huawei and the country behind it, China, aims to show that they can stand on their own feet. The US cut the chord? So what, we’ll make the chord ourselves.

Future Developments

Huawei has issued statements that suggest they will start rolling out HarmonyOS on selected smartphone models. They will also be offering users the chance to switch from the current operating system which is supported by Google’s Android platform.

The company’s presentation also unveiled several new products using HarmonyOS. Among them were a tablet, a smartwatch, and a stylus. Huawei is not only created another web of services but also products to become self-reliant.

More About the Launching Presentation

The presentation in Shenzhen also included a teaser for the flagship P50 phone. Its launch has been delayed to the raging pandemic, however, now the hype for it is building up. The company representatives noted that Huawei is aiming to have HarmonyOS on 200 million smartphones and 100 million third-party smart devices by the end of the year.

Though it seems like a big goal, keeping in mind their developments, it seems doable.

The sky is the limit for Huawei. The Chinese company is also looking into providing upgrades to older components like batteries for those with older models.

Why HarmonyOS?

The company representatives believed that the smartphone market is at a plateau. That is because it is the dominant device in our lifestyles since developers did not have other platforms to develop. With HarmonyOS, they are looking beyond smartphones.

Google Photos’ Unlimited Free Storage Is Over – Now What?

google photos and storage plans

Up until some time ago, Google did offer free unlimited storage to its users. This refers to the storage allocated for Google photos. It meant that people could back up and store as many of their pictures as well. It was a good way to keep a check on all the pictures as well as keep track of their dates. However, now that the free option is over, what should we do?

The storage has been fixed to 15GB and any photos you store are going to be a part of this. However, your previously stored photos will not occupy any space of the standard 15GB. Google has taken this opportunity to inform its users about the new subscription service. It is quite interesting and this news definitely deserves a glance.

google photo ends unlimited free storage

Google Photos Storage

Google is introducing a subscription service going by the name of Google One. Under this, users can pay $2 a month and get 100GB of storage. While the 15GB standard is not a small amount and can store three months worth of data, many people want more. They want to make sure they have backups of every single photo that they have taken. It is understandable if one wishes to preserve memories.

The subscription plan starts at $2 and can go much higher than that. According to Google, what they have offered so far is,

  • 100GB: $2 a month or $20 annually
  • 200GB: $3 a month or $30 annually
  • 2TB: $10 a month or $100 annually

The third one is quite a big package and this is thousands and thousands of photos worth of storage space. If you wish to document and store an immense amount of moments from your life, these subscription packages are for you. We recommend that you check your storage requirement first before you start to pay for a plan.

Google Being Innovative

This all is sure to attract a lot of users because of how common photography is. People want to store their memories and not let them get lost. Google even had a robust way to manage all photos so people only have more reason to subscribe. Despite there being offline storage options, this can be quite a viable and reliable one.

However, there is another piece of good news for Google pixel users. If you do have a Google Pixel phone, then you can rest even easier. For them, there is no cap on the photo limit and they can still upload ad much as they want. By this, we mean that they still get unlimited storage for free!

Mathira Is Winning Hearts & Pakistanis Are Super Impressed

Mathira

Mathira has established herself as a controversial figure. Through her Instagram stories and post, and her dialogues even, she doesn’t put up any barriers. In the most simple words, she stays real in front of the audience. Well, she made a comment on a trending topic, and Pakistanis were very impressed.

But what trending issue?

You must have come across the recent Malala issue. She was featured on British Vogue. Along with some powerful stills, a dialogue gained virality. In that dialogue, she commented on how she doesn’t believe in marriage. She said that she believes in partnership but not in signing a paper to make that partnership into something else.

Mathira comments

As a Pakistani Muslim representative, should she have made that statement? We are not going to comment on that. But Mathira did. She took to her Instagram stories stating her opinion. First of all, she was all praises for the activist. But then, she started schooling her as well. She said that nikkah is a sunnah and not about any paper. Doing nikah is not like buying a plot. Adding onto that, she said that if one wants blessings and prayers for their new beginnings, nikah is the way to go about it.

mathiraGiven the controversial content of her Instagram posts and her statements, people did not expect this from Mathira. But this is why you should never make judgments about people. Anyway, people were genuinely surprised and impressed.

Aside from your usual critics and trolls, people were happy at Mathira’s statement.

The question, however, should be: why were they surprised? They were surprised because of an image they had created of Mathira in their minds. And her recent statement didn’t align with it. But should we judge people when this happens? Isn’t this our fault that we created a certain image? Shouldn’t we work in altering that image of others?

Mansha Pasha Gives A Witty Response To A Troll Digging For ‘Good News’

mansha pasha good news

Mansha Pasha and Jibran Sharif is no doubt one of our favourite couples. Recently, when a troll pushed them to tell fans about the baby status, Mansha Pasha had the wittiest reply.

Mansha Pasha Has A Sense of Humour

The talented actress posted a video to her Instagram account in which she and her husband are playing with a baby. The two can be seen totally gushing over the adorable and happy child who is also loving the attention. We have to say, seeing Jibran Sharif like that with a baby is hard to believe!

A post shared by Mansha Pasha (@manshapasha)

However, the caption is what is making people laugh. She writes, “who doesn’t love babies? Especially those you can give back after playing with them”. The statement could not be more truthful and hilarious at the same time. We are sure those mothers stuck with their hyper and bored children at home due to quarantine will definitely agree.

Fishing For ‘Good News’

A fan or troll (hard to tell) in the comment was fishing for ‘good news’. This good news is our desi way of asking whether the other person is expecting a child— haven’t we all heard this phrase directed to newly married women? However, in this fishing expedition, the troll only landed a witty reply from Pasha herself.

It appears Mansha Pasha is also very approachable for her fans! In most of her pictures there are at least a couple of direct responses from her to even random queries. For instance, when someone again asked whether this was her child, she replied to them. Not even in a rude way, just a genuine, honest reply.

The Good News Phenomena

The world may never know the good news phenomena that are embedded in South Asian culture. Newly married couples are rarely given a week after their wedding until when the good news queries start coming.

The funniest part is when if the newly married woman gains a little weight due to all the lunches and dinners and brunches, it’s assumed to be the ‘good news’. In this case, Mansha Pasha’s words are befitting: “bullet train nahi hai”.

What’s In Store For The Couple?

Jibran Nasir has been making waves in politics since he entered. He has also amassed a considerable amount of supports. Perhaps in the near future Nasir may run for a position in the official government. Would you support him?

Mansha Pasha, on the other hand, is also on the upward curve be it in setting fashion trends or acting gigs. We can’t wait to see what’s in the pipeline for her.

Provincial & Federal Governments Not Aligned On Grades 9 To 12 Exams

classes 9 and 11

[Update]: Uncertainty has become the new normal these days. Unfortunately, it has also affected the field of education. The government takes one decision, and COVID is always around the corner to change that. It has happened once again. You would recall that Shafqat Mehmood had taken the decision regarding exams for classes 9 to 11. It was being said that this was final. Well, not anymore.

It was announced yesterday by the Federal government that seeing the current situation of the pandemic, instead of all exams, classes 9 to 12 will give exams for electives. For classes 9 and 10, the exam subjects are the electives and mathematics; 4 subjects. Classes 11 and 12, will also be required to give exams for optional subjects.

But Sindh Government had a differing opinion. Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani announced that Shafqat Mahmood’s decision will not be followed in the province. He also mentioned that for Sindh, the exam schedule will be out in a few days.

[May 6th, 2021]:

Shafqat Mahmood Announces Final Decision On Exams For Classes 9 and 11

After the meeting held by the Steering Committee IBCC, it was proposed that classes 9 and 11 be promoted this year without exams while classes 10 and 12 sit for it. But Inter-Provincial Education Ministers still had to approve it. The proposal has been rejected clearly considering the recent tweet by the Federal Minister of Education, Shafqat Mahmood.

Decision for Classes 9 and 11

According to the tweet, exams for classes 9 and 11 will take place according to the set schedule. No exam cancellation has been approved.

[May 5th, 2021]:

These Classes Might Be Promoted Without Exams Again This Year

Last year, in April, it was announced that for the academic year 2020-2021, students will not be promoted without exams. This announcement came after students were promoted exactly in this way for the year 2019-2020. But now, with the pandemic still widely affecting the world, the education policies for the ongoing year are becoming affected as well.

Grades 9 and 11

With students and parents scared of the pandemic and the rising cases, the government might impose last year’s policy yet again. Of course, the difference this time would be that last year all exams were canceled but this time it will only be for grades 9 and 11. This should be noted though that no decision has been finalized as of yet. The matter is still in talks.

IBCC steering committee

The Steering Committee of the IBCC (Inter Board Committee of Chairmen) had a meeting chaired by Dr. Nazim Jiva, Chairman of Aga Khan Board and Head of the Steering Committee. At first, it was proposed to only conduct optional exams but given how the field of Arts has lots of optional subjects, it was not feasible.

So the next proposal was to promote grades 9 and 11 while making grades 10 and 12 sit the exam. This still needs to be approved by Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Conference.

[22nd April 2020]:

Students to Not be Promoted Without Exams: New Education Policy for 2020-2021 is Out!

On Tuesday, a notice has been issued by Sindh Education Department that says that private and government colleges’ academic year will start from June 1.

As far as schools that are based in Cambridge will most likely begin from the 1st of August. New education policy comes forward as the authorities dismiss the idea of promoting students without prior exams.

Classes 1-3 are planned to be promoted based on written tests and assessments. From classes 4-8, examinations will be conducted from 1-15th June.

The admission for class 9 will begin on June 1 and end on June 10. The education department further announced that results for class 9 will be released within 60 days and for class 10 by the 15th of August.

Classes 11 and 12 will begin on the 6th of July, while the results will be out on the 15th of September while for grade 11 results will be out after 60 days.

Coronavirus Pakistan: First Two Confirmed Cases Surface!

School extension in Sindh denied for the time being

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, schools all around the world have closed down for a longer period of time. However, that’s not the case in Pakistan. Some schools and universities are still open despite the coronavirus pandemic.

Analyzing the current situation in Sindh, the Chinese Consul General in Karachi, Li Bijian, on Wednesday has advised authorities in Sindh to extend the closure of schools and halt gatherings in Karachi after a spike in coronavirus cases were reported.

“The local Government of Sindh shall be advised to take more strong preventive measures including calling off big gatherings and extension of the closing of the schools to save more lives,” said Li in a tweet on Wednesday.

Here’s the tweet!

The diplomat urged the Sindh government to take the action as the spread of the virus was quick and actual.

Karachi has been the worst affected city so far, with 15 of the total 20 confirmed cases.

Directors of private and government schools, the secretary of schools, the secretary of colleges, the BSEK chairperson, and the inter-board chairperson attended the meeting.

The number of confirmed cases of novel coronavirus ‘COVID-19’ infections in Pakistan has risen to 20 after Gilgit-Baltistan reported its second patient on Wednesday.

Karachi has been the worst affected city so far, with 15 of the total confirmed cases. Of the remaining, two cases have been reported in Gilgit-Baltistan and one case has been reported each in Islamabad, Hyderabad, and Quetta.

International schools closed down for longer period

Schools in different countries have been advised to remain closed until further notice. The Washing State Government has all school districts and the same has been advised in Denmark as well, as instructed by the Denmark Prime Minister.

Saudi Arabia Has Bad News For Travelers Who Got Chinese Vaccine

The authorities have just made a new announcement about Saudi Arabia. It comes as a shock to many people, leaving them in a state of confusion. Apparently, Saudi Arabia has banned the entry of foreigners who have been administered the Chinese covid vaccines!

Saudi Arabia on Vaccines

This does seem like a bit of shocking as well as a confusing piece of news. According to sources, Saudi Arabia has allowed specific types of vaccinations as credible. This includes Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, and a few more. However, the Chinese covid vaccines like Sinopharm or Sinovac have been deemed inapplicable.

Stuck In The Middle

The time of Hajj is approaching fast, and people want to be in Makkah in due time. However, now it seems that Chinese vaccine administered people are not allowed to enter the country. This decision has left quite a lot of people stuck in the middle. Those who had plans for Hajj are unable to go because they aren’t allowed in the country.

Following this announcement, the countries using Chinese vaccines have asked Saudi Arabia to include then in the travel advisory. This list of countries includes Pakistan too. Here, Sinovac is being administered on a large scale, and Sinopharm is being given to those whose second dose is left. So, it is understandable that the Sinovac vaccine is quite popular here.

Including All Vaccines

It might not seem fair to a lot of people to not let them into the country. That too, based on which country vaccine they have been administered. However, despite the decision by Saudi Arabia, additional development is taking place. Among the list of approved vaccines, WHO is including Sinopharm and Sinovac too.

Under the decision made by the WHO, Saudi Arabia is deciding to revise its policy. If the Chinese vaccines are being administered on that big a scale, then it means that they are readily accepted. The EU also does not have the Chinese vaccines in their roster and is said to revise.

Covid Year Two

Despite there being heavy waves of the virus, vaccinations are being done on a global scale. The makers are trying to reach every country that they can. In Pakistan, specifically Karachi, 18+ citizens can get vaccinated. The vaccination center at Expo requires no registration and is a walk-in center.

It is recommended to each one of you to take part in this race. We ask that you either visit the expo center or register yourself through a text message. Covid might be here to stay for some years to come, so booster vaccines are a huge possibility. However, one needs to get the first vaccine first before receiving booster shots.

With The Launch of ‘Hunza’ & ‘Karachi’ Amir Adnan Ups The Ante of Fashion Once Again

Pakistan’s fashion industry in its essence has promoted the idea of evolution and innovation since its inception, proving that it is truly a space that welcomes experimentation from the myriad of iconic fashion designers that call it their abode. Amidst such names, one that has stood out as a bastion for all things ingenious with his zest for turning craft into niches of luxury is Amir Adnan. Standing mightily high with his success in the industry with the very idea of constantly evolving with time, the designer has once again taken the lead in ushering in the new era of inventive fashion — but this time with fragrances! Enter ‘Hunza’and ‘Karachi.’

Narrating tales of finding inspiration in the kaleidoscope of terrains and geo scapes of Pakistan, Amir Adnan has introduced two of his latest offerings of opulence and luxury with his fragrances, and for the Pakistani market, it surely opens up a whole new ballgame of designer fragrances with an indigenous flair.

Here’s all that Amir Adnan has to say about his latest achievement in fashion as the designer sits for a tete-a-tete with Brandsynario…

First thing’s first. What made you get into the world of fragrances?

,Amir Adnan (AA): A designer is a person who creates something out of nothing. They imagine something and give reality to their imagination, they are visionaries. They look for things that will give tangible rendition to their imagination or their vision. They are called fashion designers when they create fashion, they are perfumers when they make perfumes, but the mentality is exactly the same. They can even be artists or writers, these are all very similar people. So, any of them can transition from one medium to another. Therefore, extending the same creativity or manifestation of ideas into fragrance is a very natural progression, bound to happen sooner or later. The only thing, in Pakistan or given our environment we don’t have too many resources at our disposal and in terms of creativity, our part of the world is not very developed. We don’t have this industry in a very developed state, so it is very difficult for a person like myself to say that I want to develop a perfume and it happens right away because the infrastructure for that industry does not exist.

Now that Pakistan is progressing in terms of developing a greater retail market and the number of customers are increasing, hence, the perfume industry becomes more viable. People are now converting from looking at just importing stuff to developing things within the country and preferring it too. In other words, we have started loving ourselves more than loving others. A part of this has also to do with the government who is trying to block imports or adding higher duty which is an excellent idea because that’s the only method to shift the mentality from zenocentracism to ethnocentrism because now people are being forced to lean inwards and develop products locally.

Us designers travel a lot. Last year, my wife and I were on vacation in Hunza. I was going on a jet ski through Attabad Lake. I was very inspired by the colour of the lake and the mountains, the fresh air that was hitting me. The adrenaline boost that I experienced while going through the crystal clear waters of Attabad Lake thinking about the history of the lake and how something so beautiful exists – and we never looked at it. I have traveled to other places such as Switzerland and have had similar experiences in the past but I never imagined that such beauty exists within our own land and is so accessible. That is what inspired me, and while I was going through it all the feelings of that day stayed with me. And I wished I could capture it and share it with other people around me, as it is not possible for everyone to experience this. This is why it got translated into a perfume. That is the first perfume that I launched, called Hunza. The colour of the fluid inside the bottle is aqua, similar to the waters of Attabad Lake and if you smell it, it has the same freshness. It speaks about being bold and adventurous and evokes adrenaline in you. It is a little spicy, a little wild and has notes of a fresh green flavour.

The latest fragrance is Karachi. Tell us a little bit about that?

AA: After the launch and success of Hunza, as people related to the vision and imagery portrayed, the second perfume that we launched was Karachi. Karachi is basically all about the city of lights, success, power, luxury and whatever Karachi brings to one person while living there. These are the feelings that I face while I am in Karachi. Compared to Hunza, when I come to Karachi, there is a drastic difference between the two. Both equally beautiful and fantastic, but very different. Hunza is all about wilderness, adventure. Whereas, Karachi is very pampering and takes you on a path of luxury. It’s powerful, professional and cosmopolitan, giving it a completely different feel. I see Karachi more as a city of lights and a city of the night. Hunza is more of something that I do during the day. I need sunlight to enjoy Hunza and I need the sunset and midnight to enjoy Karachi. The city wakes up at night, which is what I wanted to capture in Karachi, and that is exactly what we did. The notes that we used include ambergris, which gives a very heavy and musky smell which makes up the masculine smell of it. As a man who has always lived in Karachi, I associate it with a very masculine feel, which includes power, nightlife, highrise buildings, which is what we do not get anywhere else in Pakistan. Karachi has its own feel filled up with man-made beauty while Hunza has natural beauty, but they are both equally captivating.

Do  you have plans to launch any more fragrances in the future?

AA: Currently, we have launched two fragrances only. But, we do plan to launch multiple. The fragrances have been selected and we plan to launch one after the other.

Are the scent ranges going to be as contrasting as these two?

AA: Very much so, every single scent that we plan to launch will be totally different from each other. They would evoke different sensibilities in a man’s mind. The common theme is that they would all be masculine and very personal to me. Whatever I make and launch is reflecting a personal part of myself. I feel that every human is multi-faceted. Whatever you see is one facet of my personality and what I like. It’s not something that I have picked up and decided that this is what I want to do, there is a whole ethos and story behind it. For example, with Karachi, the whole presentation is black and twilight based and the scent is very strong. I wanted to depict the feeling of coming home to Karachi with a visual of lights in the night that give off a similar feel to that of fireflies in some other place such as Thailand. Similarly, I can relate Karachi to a well lit sky and similar feelings of that nature.

Do you believe that each fragrance is a part of your personality?

AA: Yes. They represent the different moods that I go through. A person goes through different moods and each fragrance is based on a mood whether it’s time separated or according to a situation

What else do you think is there that you feel separates your fragrances and you from the other brands?

AA: I don’t know what the other brands are doing and haven’t really looked into them. This is my inherent style of work. I am a very introspective person and look into myself for inspiration. I take my inspiration from my travels and not from other brands necessarily. If I have to make a perfume, I would not look at other perfumes or their bottles. I would look at nature, buildings and places that I travel to. The same thing applies to clothing. I have never looked at what other brands produce and focus on what I want to wear or what I would want to wear when I was young or what I would wear when I encounter certain situations. Everything that I wear that’s in my store, I make it for myself thinking would I wear it? I would not make it if I would not wear it myself. I am a very sober and conservative person, which reflects in my clothing. It is very minimalistic, because that’s just who I am. I like change, but not in everything.

There is a certain part of me that likes to remain the same over a period of time, which is the classic part of me. I don’t like changing myself and jumping from one side of my personality to another. But then I am able to enjoy the minute differences. With my clothes also, you would have to look into a lot of detail to realise what sets it apart from the others.

I had a Japanese customer come into my store in Islamabad, and said that I heard about you in Japan and wanted to see your brand but everything looks identical? To which I said, if you ask me every kimono looks the same. But you know that every kimono is different and I know that every kurta is different. Then I proceeded to show him various differences in each design and said that you need a trained eye to appreciate how each design is different. If you haven’t had a cravat, then you wouldn’t know about the different types of cravats. You would have to have a certain amount of sensibility about a field to appreciate the minor differences which sets you apart from the others. The same goes for different types of perfumes and arts, but one needs to have the eyes to decipher it and it cannot be told. As the audience is exposed to what you’re doing and as they understand each layer, their ability to set you apart from the rest becomes more prominent. For example, a cup of tea that is brewed is different from a one that is made with a teabag. Similarly, tea leaves develop differently in different types of areas, situations and amount of sunlight they are exposed to, and this impacts its flavor, but it is not noticeable to someone who is not a tea drinker. For them, all tea is tea.

What sort of events and scenarios do you see people utilizing your range of fragrances at the most?

AA: Talking about Karachi, where would I wear it? I would wear it at night when I am going out to have dinner. I would wear it to work, when I am trying to be powerful. When I wear Karachi walking through a corridor, the impression that I am leaving on others is one of power, sophistication and a person who is in control. When I am going out, meeting people, I put in on I exude luxury and I show that I have the ability to discern the right fragrance that sets me apart from the rest. I am trying to communicate that I am successful, I am at grip with myself and am in control. If you control yourself, you already communicate to others that you control everything. I am a person who controls his temper, communication and words I use. How composed are you? That is where I would wear Karachi.

On the other hand, I would wear Hunza when I feel adventurous or in the daytime, in a situation like a beach party. I am trying to communicate to others that I am adventurous, open to risk and want to mix around and do things that I have never done before. It’s very light, fresh and inviting as opposed to Karachi which shows that I am a composed person and is a no-nonsense type of scent.

With that the interview came to an end. As we look forward to more fragrances and more clothing lines from Pakistan’s best loved clothing brand, we leave Amir Adnan contemplating his new perfume bottle, the inspiration that will drive its essence and the memories of Hunza and Karachi that are now bottled for forever and for everyone to experience. And that is the magic of the House of Amir Adnan.

Pakistanis Furious After Indian Designer’s Shoot In Pakistan Goes Viral

A recent collaboration of Pakistani artists and influencers with Abhinav Mishra, a legendary Indian designer, has invited the ire of Pakistanis.

Abhinav Mishra Comes to Pakistan

The Mishra label is just as famous and exclusive as the Manish Malhotra label or the Sabyasachi one. We’re guessing after this collaboration, the elites of Pakistan will finally shift from the Sabyasachi overdose and move to Mishra!

These A-list names in India including Jahnvi Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor and Aliya Bhatt have been seen in it. Make no mistake, this was a huge feat!

A post shared by Abhinav Mishra (@abhinavmishra_)

Hence, when it came to Pakistan for collaboration, many were extremely surprised and excited. The collaboration was led by Izzah Shaheen a photographer that can be found on @pictroizzah on Instagram. A breathtaking set was created by rounding all the top influencers/models of the moment,

Is All That Glitters Gold?

However, this collaboration did not charm everyone alike. Many are actually furious as to why this was done considering India consistently bans our artists. India hasn’t called for a collaboration with a Pakistani designer, is our talent any lesser?
