From AstraZeneca to Moderna, Sputnik to Sinovac, every COVID vaccine is different. You may think not but they sure are. And this is aside from the individual human body differences. Some of these differences are about efficacy, and others are about storage differences. Not to forget that the period between two doses for all these vaccines also differs.
Today, I will be listing down the most basic differences of all these vaccines. So sit tight!
1. Sputnik
While there are, by now, many variants of the covid strain, vaccines were originally curated keeping the original strain in mind. Hence, for that strain, Sputnik is 91% effective. Moreover, you can store it for up to 2 years if you keep it at -20 degrees. If at 2-8 degrees, then it will last you for 6 months. You should be getting your second dose after 21 days.
2. Moderna
With 94% efficacy against the original strain, Moderna doses should be administered twenty-eight days apart. Kept at minus 20 degrees, you can store it for up to 6 months. But if you can only store it at 2 to 8 degrees, then you can keep it for thirty days only.
3. Novovax
Novovax gives 96% efficacy against the original strain. For the UK variant, it gives 86% efficacy. Moreover, for South African strain, it has a 55% efficacy rate.
Two doses, twenty-one days apart.
4. Sinovac
50% efficacy and doses to be 14 days apart.
5. Johnson & Johnson
72 percent efficacy against the original strain and 57% against South African. It requires only one dose.
6. AstraZeneca
For the original strain it is 82% effective, and the two doses have to be 12 weeks apart.
7. Sinopharm
Two doses, twenty-one days apart, and will be 79% effective.
Whichever vaccine you are applying, make sure you know these important pointers, especially the duration between the doses.
