Ethnic Under Fire As Complaints Of Poor Quality & Pricey Clothes Pour In

complaints ethnic

Ethnic is a well-established brand that seems to be its own enemy. Though the brand releases covetable collections with many gorgeous pieces, its quality is its own nemesis. After this Eid, many people have taken to Facebook platforms to talk about the unfair fate they were dealt with by Ethnic. Here’s the down-low:

Read more: How To Keep Your Brand Safe & Avoid Controversial Marketing

What Happened?

Ethnic has become notorious for its terrible quality. The brand has extremely strict no refund or exchange policies which also do not make sense. Every place abroad has these policies and they are very successful too without fraud. What makes Ethnic above it all? As a result, if people sometimes get something on a whim, they are stuck with it for life.

Recently, Voice of Customer, a Facebook group for customers, has started getting inundated with posts against Ethnic. People are sharing pictures of recently bought ethnic clothes that have gotten torn, have lost their color, or look nothing like their pictures.

The Complaints

All the people are complaining that this dress is only okay if you only put it on mannequins. Besides that, if a human wears the clothes and actually moves around in them, you will experience your dress getting torn. It starts tearing from places. The color gets lost just after one gentle wash. Moreover, sometimes you come home and realize that the material actually has a lot of defects in it. Have a look at the complaints generated in just a few hours:

There’s even more:

Does Ethnic Do Something About This?

Here’s the problem— Ethnic will do nothing about this. This will be because they will say that it happened once you washed it or wore it hence, it is not our responsibility anymore. Had you bought it like this then we could exchange it? They will also never refund which is the saddest part. When a place offers this bad quality, you don’t want a new item in its place. You need to get your hard-earned money back.

Regardless, these posts have definitely taught us that Ethnic is not the place to be for Eid shopping. Save your money and your outfits for bari Eid!

How To Take Advantage Of The Back Tap Feature On Your iPhone

Back Tap is one of the easiest ways to put an iPhone function you use all the time literally at your fingertips – a way to access different phone features by tapping the back of your phone kind of like an extra, user-customizable button.

The back tap was introduced with iOS 14, and the feature works on devices as old as the iPhone 8, which was launched five years ago. So, it’s highly likely that you’ve got a compatible phone.

How To Turn On The Back Tap?

  1. Check that you have the latest version of iOS on your iPhone 8 or later.
  2. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch, and tap Back Tap.
  3. Tap Double Tap or Triple Tap and choose an action.
  4. Double or triple tap on the back of your iPhone to trigger the action you set.

You can even set a double or triple tap to trigger an Accessibility Shortcut to quickly access features like Assistive Touch, Siri Shortcuts, Magnifier, Reachability, and VoiceOver.

Back Tap Features On iPhone

Once you have set up the back tap a copious list of options awaits you on the next screen. The first section includes useful system action, including App Switcher, Control Center, Home, Lock Screen, Mute, Notification Center, Screenshot, and Siri. Accessibility options include VoiceOver, Assistive Touch, Classic and Smart Invert (which display inverted colors), and Speak Screen.

You can also use the taps to trigger Shortcuts. Find a whole gallery of these in the Shortcuts app, and even create custom ones—say, for opening an app, sending a message to a particular contact, playing a podcast, creating a tweet, or getting directions home. The options are virtually limitless. Any Shortcut you add will be available for use with Back Tap.

In addition to shortcuts, here are some of the other ways you can customize Back Tap:

  1. You can access system functions like launching the camera, turning on your flashlight, taking a screenshot, or muting your phone. These are all great candidates for quick access.
  2. There are accessibility options, too. You can use Speak Screen to have Siri read on-screen text, Magnifier to use your phone’s camera as a magnifying glass, or Background Sounds to play white noise.
  3. You can also scroll up or down by assigning those functions to Back Tap.

Gas Shortage Troubles Karachiites; Forced To Live According To Gas Schedule

gas shortage

Just a few days ago, it was announced that Karachiite will have to face gas load-shedding. Once the news was covered, officials immediately jumped forward to refute the claims, regarding the news as a rumor. According to them, there was going to be no set schedule per se to navigate the gas shortage. But the schedule exists and it has become annoying for the citizens.

The issues

“What chai? We get home from work and there is no gas,” A Karachiite lamented.

They further added, “In fact, we have to cook food beforehand and tea? Well, we make it and keep it in a thermos.”

It seems that the urban citizens are getting a taste of life in the countryside. Given the routine works differently for urban and rural, the schedule can surely not sit well with Karachiites most of whom are working remotely for foreign companies with different daily schedules. Their work begins in the evening and goes up until morning. Most urban citizens are night owls who like to cook up midnight snacks.

That is all gone because there is just no gas after 7 pm. Cooking is a separate issue but even the bathing schedule gets affected. With no heated water available, thanks to unoperational geysers, people can’t take baths at night anymore.

The gas schedule is, hence, directing Karachiites’ life schedule.

How to navigate gas shortage?

The problem exists for sure. Whomever we choose to blame, the problem will not magically disappear. That said, is it okay for one or two areas to be this afflicted? Is it okay for a proportion of the population to be affected by the gas shortage? Maybe, if the burden was shared amongst a number slightly less than 20 million population, the burden would not seem as great.

gas shortage

Instead of load shedding that encompasses most people’s teatime and dinner time of a few areas, the load could be shared equally. This way, instead of an 8 to 10-hour load shedding, the time would be reduced to 1 to 2 hours. The gas shortage might not be resolved but it can be managed effectively. Of course, this is until the people in power figure out a more permanent solution to the problem.

Maybe it is at the time they are trying to figure out a solution that they realized it is high time to shift to gas alternatives. But it will take time and until the solutions are in place, just maybe authorities could give us some attention.

2. Checking Tyre Quality

You may have had to drive over uneven terrain or rough ground during the week. This can be common for driving cars in certain areas of Karachi. At times, there can be damage to the tyres that are not apparent but can be detected. Every week, make sure that your tyres have not suffered any long-term damage or miniature punctures that can be a nuisance in the future.

3. Checking Car Tyre Pressure

This is yet another parameter of the tyres that must be kept in perspective. No matter how much you have driven your car, make sure to check the tyre pressure, at least once a week. Even a car standing for days, not driven much, can cause the tyres to deflate. The ideal tire pressure is 30psi. Higher psi can cause tyres to burst on extremely sunny days. Similarly, an underpressure tyre causes more friction on the road, reducing fuel average.

4. Cleaning Windshield Wipers

There is dew on the car windshields every morning now. It is important to keep your wiper blades clean so that you have a clear view. Even in sunny weather, keep your wiper blades clean of dust and rust, so they may work when they are needed. You can check these weekly, but they can be checked bi-weekly too.

Here Are 5 Things You Must AVOID While Traveling Abroad

5 Things You Must AVOID While Traveling
Source: Travel Market Report

Don’t you love traveling around the globe, discovering different cultures, and meeting new people? Are you planning to travel anytime soon? Yes? Well, there are certain things that you need to be alert about while traveling.

Here Are 5 Things You Must AVOID While Traveling

1. Exchanging Currency At The Airport

5 Things You Must AVOID While Traveling
Source: Business Live Middle East

Airports are the worst place to get your currency exchanged. Knowing that the travelers will need money to commute from the airport to elsewhere and that they have no other choice, the currency exchange centers at airports offer awful exchange rates and try making as much profit for themselves as possible. You should hence try getting your currency exchanged from an ATM, a local bank, or the local currency exchanging shops in the city.

2. Violating Others’ Privacy

5 Things You Must AVOID While Traveling
Source: Hunter and Bligh

Although you might be having the time of your life wanting to capture everything in your camera and take them home as precious memories, you should not forget that others around you might feel that their privacy is being violated.

Taking candid pictures of others without their consent is outright unethical. Respecting their privacy, you should always be mindful enough to ask them if they would be okay with it. Go ahead if they give you a green signal but stop right away if they are even slightly uncomfortable.

3. Confining Yourselves To Famous Tourist Spots

5 Things You Must AVOID While Traveling
Source: World Nomads

Visiting the famous tourist attractions only and spending the rest of the day in your hotel room is not a wise thing to do. Once you are done visiting the favorite tourist spots for the day, rather than sitting in your hotel room watching a movie, you should instead set out to wander on the streets, explore the street life, and try talking to shopkeepers or the locals at a roadside cafeteria. This would not only help you from getting bored but also provide you an opportunity to know the local culture deeply bestowing on you more exposure and fun.

4. Overburdening Yourself

Overburdening yourself by trying to visit a lot of places in a single day can get you tired and kill all the fun. The last thing you would want, when on vacation, would be getting ill or too exhausted and having to spend the remaining days on the bed. Plan your vacation wisely. Visit as many places as you can but stop as soon as you get tired. Taking too much on your shoulders can kill all the joy.

5. Commuting via taxis

Cab or taxi drivers will often try charging you more to make huge profits when they know that you are a tourist and you would not probably be aware of the rates. Even if you are well versed in such matters, you would not be as confident while bargaining as you would have been in your homeland. Always remember that in an unknown country or city you can easily be exploited and taken advantage of. Hence, you should always use public transport such as buses and avoid using taxis or cabs as much as possible.

Did You Know The Real Story Behind Lifebuoy’s Red Color?

lifebuoy

With blue packaging handwash and green packaging shampoos, the new generation will probably not recall the signature red soap of Lifebuoy. But the Millenials and the older generation will probably be pushed into nostalgia reminiscing the old shape and texture. Before they introduced shampoos and handwashes, it was all soaps and that too, only red.

Thinking about it in hindsight, it does seem strange, the red color. I bet though that you would not the real story, the origins of this red colour. And if you did, well you are more well-read than me because I got to know about it only today.

Backstory of Lifebuoy

The story basically is that the product was initially created for washing floors and clothes. Interesting, right?

It is the story of two brothers Willian and James Lever. They wanted to create soaps from palm and vegetable oil. For this purpose, they set up a factory in England and created Sunlight soap. The target audience would use it for household cleaning. Come 1894, the brothers launched Lifebuoy soap that featured phenol/carbolic acid. It was this acid that gave the soap its distinctive red colour.

lifebuoy

Carbolic acid – colorand scent

Up until then, medical practitioners had used carbolic acid for disinfecting purposes. Since people had become accustomed to associating the smell of carbolic acid with clinics and hospitals, this was why the soap came off as having a strong medicinal scent. But people found it bearable for household cleaning. Given its affordability, the brothers also launched a toilet bar with the same composition in 1933.

lifebuoy

It was way later that the company began experimenting with smells. When they tackled smell, they also were able to experiment with color because why stick with the carbolic red?

Reading up on carbolic acid, it is said to kill germs. That said, it is so strong that people use it as snake poison as well. Considering the Lever brothers were producing this in the late 1800s, one wonders how safe it could be. The fact that it became a household name should answer that question though.

Later, Unilever acquired Lifebuoy. And now, you see so many variants of the soap, the handwash, the shampoos, and whatnot.

While you digest this information, we will leave you with yet another huge piece of information!

The little-known fact is that one of the Lever brothers, James, had Darcy as his middle name. Jane Austen, anyone?

Keloptic is an online optician selling eyeglasses. Their advertising agency used Van Gogh’s post-impressionist self-portrait as the perfect means of brand promotion. Van Gogh’s portrait is well-known for its blurry color scheme, which makes no clear distinctions between different hues and tones.

However, Keloptic put eyeglasses in front of the painting to reveal Van Gogh’s face and show the power of their products. This works as a brilliant persuasive print ad.

6 Pakistani Actors Who Are Miserably Failing At Comedy

pakistani actors

We have a number of Pakistani actors in our entertainment industry and most of them are good at what they do. But here is the thing; we have a few tropes that we keep on repeating in our dramas, for instance, saas evil bahu mazloom or a man’s two marriages. So if one actor performs well in two dramas we believe them to be great, but they performed really the same thing in both the projects.

The industry gets the chance to try other tropes during Ramadan, with Ramadan special comedy dramas. The way the cast is finalized most probably is not through auditions but through who has the most following or how many projects they have performed in. And this is why we get to see that a few of these actors are not that good when it comes to comedy.

1. Mira Sethi

Seeing Mira in her show talking in a very sophisticated manner has crafted an image of hers. Gul Apa from Chupke Chupke shatters that image. In the beginning, it was a fresh take but as we move onto further episodes we realize that she may be overdoing the comedy element.

2. Farhan Agha

Superb actor in other genres, Farhan is not that great when it comes to comedy. His recent project is Chupke Chupke where he has to play a miserly businessman. He looks too stiff for the role.

3. Sohail Sameer

Seen as Nazakat Ali in Suno Chanda, Sohail Sameer played the role of jiya’s father. How lively and great Iqra Aziz was when she was Jia, Sohail could not match upto her.

4. Alizey Shah

Alizey Shah achieved the heights of fame quite quickly. And its probably because of that that she got caster in Tanaa Baana. Looking at her performance, it is not something to that you would want to see every day.

5. Wahaj Ali

Every house has their own comedian. Wahaj plays that character well in serious dramas. But having seen him perform in Ishq Jalebi, it turns out he cannot play a character in comedy dramas.

6. Amna Ilyas

Amna is trying to delve into comedy. Her parody of Ayeza Khan’s TVC was certainly hilarious but that had made her assume she is good at being the joke cracker. Her insta posts are all proofs of that. Someone needs to tell her, she is not that good at doing comedy.

These are just a few Pakistani actors who we think are not good comedy actors but that doesn’t mean they are not good at serious acting as well. Some of them are fabulous in the tropes they excel at. But then, they should stick to what they are good at.

5 Activities to Avoid When You Are Sleep Deprived

sleep deprived

When you are tired, there are things that you should avoid. Doing important office work or financial related work is as big a NO as driving is in that situation. However, there are some other smaller activities that you should beware because they can have bad consequences for you. The following are five don’ts for when you are tired or sleep-deprived.

1. Don’t exercise full force

Exercising with full force is a bad idea. When you are already tired, but you think you should do your entire routine, it’s not helpful. And full force exercise can include a run around the neighborhood or climbing stairs. A trainer suggests that when you are tired, it is better to focus on light cardio. The justification is that full force exercise would be a waste of time because you will not have the energy to complete the routine. Moreover, there is a higher probability of injuring yourself when you are tired because you will not be focussed on your body entirely. So don’t exercise full force.

Do’s: Try walking, elliptical, or biking.

2. Don’t pick a fight

Be it an interaction with a colleague, a friend, or a partner, a mild issue can become a heated argument, and you will face escalated consequences. A study by Harvard Medical suggests that when one is sleep deprived, it is harder to control emotions. Another research suggests that sleep-deprived individuals cannot accurately read others’ feelings as well. So basically, the brain is not able to process the individual’s emotions as well as the opponents.

Do’s: fight when fully awake! Okay, maybe not fight but process life issues when you are fully awake.

3. Don’t take a nap

The famous expression goes like, ‘Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.’ This expression has truth to it. So if you are exhausted, and you decide to nap, the chances are that you will fall asleep instead of napping, and that would have adverse effects on your night sleep, which is very important for you. So AVOID napping

Do’s: If you have to nap, then do it the right way. The right duration of nap is 20 minutes to 30 minutes.

4. Don’t consume caffeine

Work is hard, and you feel like caffeine is your only best friend. But that is not the case. You think that your headaches will go away and you will feel refreshed by drinking coffee. However, that is only the adrenaline rush. Once that wears off, you will feel sluggish. And not just that, the caffeine in your system will also affect your night sleep.

Do’s: stop consuming caffeine after 1 p.m. Sap it with a natural energy boost such as a walk, an apple, or a glass of water.

5. Don’t use social media

If it’s not the time for night sleep, and you think you could spend that time scrolling through social media, reject that idea. There are two reasons for that. First of all, the light-emitting from your phone hurts your sleep cycle. And secondly, scrolling through Facebook or Instagram gets addictive, and you might lose the sense of time and spend hours on social media instead of minutes.

Do’s: Read a book.

These five don’ts are simple tools to ensure a healthy life, but the best among all will be to not compromise on your routine that will lead you towards becoming sleep deprived.

5 Biggest Mistakes New Entrepreneurs Should Avoid At All Costs

5 Biggest Mistakes New Entrepreneurs Should Avoid At All Costs

“Starting a business is easy, running it isn’t,” I remember reading it somewhere. When starting a business, new entrepreneurs make plans and goals that they aim to achieve. If a company fails, it becomes a massive disappointment for the team.

Before starting, entrepreneurs should make sure to have all the relevant skills to help them in achieving their goals. An entrepreneur is someone who can multitask. They must learn everything from making their product to its sale. This will do two things for them: they will not depend on someone too much and will be able to lead the team with knowledge.

Here are the five biggest mistakes new entrepreneurs should avoid at all costs:

1. Not choosing the right people

Dan Lok, the famous entrepreneur, and the business consultant, said in one of his videos that your first hire would be your worst. It is because you will do so without any experience, and you will be doubtful and will lack confidence in yourself. You won’t be any less experience in your career ahead.

When starting a business, most new entrepreneurs rely on their friends and family. This can cause a person to think emotionally. It may even cause a rift between friends and family members. However, it doesn’t mean that entrepreneurs should start alone. They should only if they are confident.

2. Expecting success quickly

I will repeat this that you shouldn’t let emotions get in the way. When starting, most new entrepreneurs think they will become a millionaire within a year. As a result, they get disappointed when they have to struggle at the beginning of their business. This only leads them to quit. When starting a business, it is essential to make realistic expectations and goals. Fulfilling them will give you a sense of accomplishment and help you set new goals.

3. Putting high prices

If you start your business with high prices, people will not risk enough money to try it out. Your first goal when starting a company must be to build a relationship with your clients based on trust and credibility. If you do so initially, you can raise your prices later on after you gain your consumers’ confidence.

source: entrepreneur.com

4. Relying on too many people’s advice

One of the mistakes an entrepreneur can make is taking advice from too many people or receiving too much information from someone. If you need help, take it from someone who is credible and is an established entrepreneur. However, you need to make sure that you don’t follow their advice blindly.

5. Getting distracted

When you start something new, it is quite easy to get distracted. You would have to remove distractions from your life once you start a business. So, you should quit Netflix and stop unnecessary scrolling on Facebook and Instagram. Most importantly, you should plan your day and stay focused on your goal!

What do you think about this? Let us know in the comments below!
