Highest ODI score while batting at No. 6 or below

Maxwell came to bat at No. 6 when Australia were 49/4 inside the powerplay. His knock of 201* is now the highest individual score by any batter while batting at No. 6 or below in ODI cricket.

Another historical knock, where Kapil Dev hammered 175 runs against Zimbabwe at the 1983 World Cup, is now second on the list.

Maxwell’s 201* is now also the highest individual score while batting at No. 6 in List-A cricket. David Wiese scored 171 for Sussex while batting at No. 6 in 2019.

Highest partnership for 7th wicket or lower in ODI history

Maxwell and Cummins added 202* runs for the eighth wicket against Afghanistan. While Maxwell did the bulk of run-scoring, the role that Cummins played was also worth its weight in gold.

Their 202*-run stand is now the highest for any seventh-wicket or lower partnership in one-day internationals. The duo overtook the 177-run stand put up by Jos Buttler and Adil Rashid in an ODI against New Zealand in Birmingham in 2015.

After a total of 994 ODIs, Australia now finally have their first double centurion. The record five-time World Cup champions have always produced remarkable batting talents over the decades.

However, Maxwell’s 201* is now the highest individual score for the Aussie unit in ODI cricket. The previous highest was held by Shane Watson when he scored 185* against Bangladesh in Mirpur in 2011.

First ODI double century by a non-opener

While there have been 10 ODI individual double centuries prior to the Australia vs. Afghanistan clash, none of them came from a non-opening batter.

Starting from Sachin Tendulkar (200* vs SA) to Shubman Gill (208 vs NZ), the list was packed with opening batters.

Maxwell has now become the first-ever non-opener to hit a double century in an ODI innings. As mentioned earlier, he batted at No. 6.

Another commonality between the previous double hundreds was that all came while batting first. Batting first allows a batter to hit more freely. However, it is always difficult to pile up huge runs with the scoreboard pressure while batting second.

How much fuel of a car is consumed over a distance can differ a lot with respect to engine size. A 1000cc engine is a smaller engine, which produces lesser power but also burns less fuel doing so. When it comes to the maintenance cost of a car, it can be cheaper to maintain a 1000cc car. The parts of a Suzuki Cultus can be cheaper than those of a Suzuki Swift. Similarly, the sparts parts of a Toyota Passo can be cheaper than those of the Toyota Corolla.

3. Airport Road – Karachi

This is the road that leads towards the Airport when coming from Shahra-e-Faisal. It is a stretch of road that has no potholes, nor any speed breakers. In the winters, it is also one of the coldest roads in Karachi due to the vegetation on both sides of it. Whether you are returning from the Airport or headed to Model Colony or Malir Cantt, this road is a good one to test the limits.

4. Seaview Road

This stretch of road leads all the way from Dolmen Mall Clifton to the restaurants of Do Darya in Defence Phase 8. While the road certainly has speed breakers built in between, you can always test the limit of your car in between the breakers. The road is well-built and maintained often, thus you can trust your car on it.

5. Dalmia Road

While it may not be known as a fast road during the daytime, it certainly becomes one late at night. There are no traffic signals on it and no speed breakers. Pakistan’s interior Sindh is home to the graves of remarkable saints whose sacred resting places still draw countless followers seeking blessings and solutions to their worries.

Among these revered figures is Baba Shalwar Shah, a man whose tomb has gone viral multiple times. The tomb recently caught the attention of Pakistani comedian Ali Gul Pir who made a parody video.

According to local folklore, Sindhi folksmen hold the belief that one can get their worries resolved by taking off their shalwar (traditional lower garment) at the shrine and leaving them there, on condition that you cannot bring an extra pair of bottoms, the original clip revealed.

Interestingly, men and women both partake in this activity at the tomb as there are hundreds of shalwar already hung on the tree just beside the grave, which is believed to be located in Saangarh, as per online sources.

How and when it started is still a mystery as there is little context on the background. However, it isn’t the only tomb in Sindh where devotees perform this distinct ritual.

Another video found on the internet offers a glimpse into another tomb in Sindh where people participate in this ritual. Here, visitors disrobe, perform a ceremonial cleansing, and change into spare clothing, all with the belief that it will cure their ailments or sickness.

It is pertinent to mention that these beliefs are often based on hearsay, passed down through generations. It’s crucial to remember that the saints themselves were pious individuals who dedicated their lives to worshiping God and there were never such directives from the saint.

Another incident involved Rassie van der Dussen, where the ball, despite heading towards the leg stumps, was deemed to be hitting them.

Speaking on a local sports show, Raza emphasized that such incidents warrant scrutiny. He expressed his concern over what he perceives as the manipulation of DRS technology. Raza went on to claim that similar instances had occurred in the past, citing matches involving Pakistan and India.

“Jadeja picked up five wickets and finished with career-best figures. We were talking about technology where DRS was being taken. Van de Dussen was the batter and the ball was hitting the middle stump after pitching on leg stump. How is that possible?” Raza said while talking on a local sports show.

“The impact was in line, but the ball was headed towards the leg stump. Like everyone else, I am just sharing my opinion. I am saying that such things should be checked. DRS is being manipulated and that is clearly visible,” he added.

Raza didn’t stop there, he also stated that the Blues manipulated the technology against Pakistan in Ahmedabad.

Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews was given “timed out” in an ICC World Cup 2023 clash against Bangladesh yesterday, which sent the cricketing world into a frenzy. This was the first such dismissal in the history of international cricket and Mathews became the unfortunate victim of it.

Angelo Mathews, came down to bat in the 25th over at the fall of Sadeera Samarawickrama’s wicket.

Mathews took his time walking in, and then struggled with his helmet as the strap broke just as he was taking guard.

He signalled to the dressing room for a new helmet, however, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan appealed for a “timed out” dismissal, which was upheld by the on-field umpires Marais Erasmus and Richard Illingworth.

Mathews was seen deep in discussion with Bangladesh and the umpires, but the appeal was not withdrawn and Mathews had to walk back dismayed.

What does the law say regarding ‘timed out’?

The ICC World Cup 2023 playing conditions pertaining to “timed out” dismissals reads thus:

40.1.1 After the fall of a wicket or the retirement of a batter, the incoming batter must, unless Time has been called, be ready to receive the ball, or for the other batter to be ready to receive the next ball within 2 minutes of the dismissal or retirement. If this requirement is not met, the incoming batter will be out, Timed out.

Why is it disgraceful?

The law is there to save time and not to give any undue advantage to the batting side, if they are trying to waste time to break the momentum. However, in this case, Mathews was ready to take strike and his helmet broke off while taking the guard.

Mathews further pleaded to the umpires as well as Shakib Al Hasan, explaining his situation and we have seen in past that teams haven’t appeal for such mode of dismissals.

Hence, the Mathews’ ‘timed out’ dismissal was within the law, but Shakib Al Hasan could have withdrawn the appeal keeping sportsman spirit alive, considering the unfortunate scenario for the batter.

However, India’s victory is raising several suspicions among the green shirts fans, especially Hareem Shah who has raised the alarm on possibilities of match fixing on many fronts.

Taking to X, Hareem recently wrote, “India thinks that the world is a fool, but we are not fools. We are aware that this tournament has been fixed by BCCI and ICC to ensure India’s victory.”

Terrifying Space Event Could Wipe Out Life On Earth

Experts have warned that an uncommon celestial event called a “Kilonova” holds the potential to cause significant harm to life on Earth if it were to occur within a specific range. A recent study conducted at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign explains that a kilonova arises when two neutron stars collide and merge, or when a neutron star collides with a black hole, resulting in a massive release of gamma rays.

Kilonova –  A Hazard To Ozone Layer

Although the probability of such an event happening is relatively low, it remains a concern due to the intense radiation emitted by these gamma rays, which can strip electrons from atoms, a process known as ionization.

The type of radiation associated with kilonovas is notably persistent and could potentially harm the Earth’s ozone layer. However, for this radiation to have a substantial impact, it would need to occur within relatively close proximity of approximately 16.3 light years from Earth. Beyond that range, the threat becomes significantly less significant.

‘We found that if a neutron star merger were to occur within around 36 light-years of Earth, the resulting radiation could cause an extinction-level event,’ Haille Perkins, a scientist at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, told Space.com.

“The specific distance of safety and component that is most dangerous is uncertain as many of the effects depend on properties like viewing angle to the event, the energy of the blast, the mass of material ejected, and more,” Perkins added. “With the combination of parameters we select, it seems that the cosmic rays will be the most threatening.”

Kilonovas are typically challenging to study because they are infrequent and occur rapidly. The research findings also disclosed that kilonovas have the capability to generate Tellurium, which was previously unverified.

However, it’s important to note that the overall risk of a kilonova causing harm to Earth is considerably lower than other potential threats like solar flares, asteroid impacts, and supernova explosions. Therefore, Earth’s safety from kilonovas remains relatively secure.
