Following Babar Azam’s resignation, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) swiftly appointed Shan Masood as the new Test captain and named Shaheen Afridi to lead the team in T20Is.

In an official statement, PCB disclosed that Shan Masood will take over the Test captaincy until the culmination of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25. With the addition of WhatsApp backups to this quota, especially for users with extensive chat histories and media, storage constraints might become a pressing concern.

Abdul Razzaq’s Apology Falls Flat After Aishwarya Rai’s Insult

Former Pakistani cricketer Abdul Razzak is currently at the centre of controversy after drawing a comparison between references to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Pakistan’s performance in the World Cup. The remarks made by the ex-allrounder have sparked discussions, with both Razzaq and the Bollywood actress trending on the platform X.

Speaking at a press conference after Pakistan’s world cup exist, Razzaq expressed his views on the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) intentions in the presence of former players Umar Gul and Shahid Afridi.

“Here, I am referring to their (PCB’s) intention. While I was playing, I was aware of my captain Younis Khan’s good intentions. That gave me strength and confidence, and with Allah’s help, I was able to perform well for Pakistani cricket.” He added, while elaborating more, “We don’t really intend to improve and enhance the players, in my opinion. That will never happen if you believe that I will marry Aishwarya (Rai) to have a good-natured and moral child. Therefore, you must first amend your intentions.”

The comments sparked outrage among netizens and the sports fraternity, including former skipper Waqar Younis and Mohammad Yousaf, who took to social media to correct Razzaq, since even Shahid Afridi, the former captain of the Pakistan national cricket team, could be seen laughing and clapping at the remarks during the presser.

Former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar also schooled Razzaq for his insensitive remarks and addressed Shahid Afridi’s position in a tweet.

In a talk show appearance, Shahid Afridi admitted realizing the severity of Razzaq’s statements only after receiving the clip at home. Afridi shared that he has spoken to Razzaq about the matter.

Amidst growing backlash from both neighbouring countries, Razzaq issued a public apology in a video statement.

He clarified, “Yesterday, we were talking about cricket coaching and intentions. I had a slip of the tongue and mistakenly took Aishwarya Rai’s name. I apologise to her personally. I did not intend to hurt anyone’s sentiment.”

Razzaq also extended his apologies in a series of tweets, stating “I am very ashamed of yesterday and I realize I said very bad words. I apologize to everyone, please forgive me.”
However, the responses to the apology have not been so forgiving as netizens pointed out other nuances of the situation as well as Razzaq’s thought process.

In a last-minute twist, the first semi-final of the World Cup 2023 between India and New Zealand in Mumbai, will take place on a used pitch. It was initially planned to be played on a fresh pitch, however, it was changed in the eleventh hour.

The switch to Pitch 6, which has already witnessed two matches in the tournament, deviates from the pre-World Cup pitch allocation plan.

Despite previously allocated pitch plan, India’s team management have changed the surface for tonight’s game to a slower, lower strip that will make life more difficult for New Zealand’s high-quality seam bowlers.

Pitch 7, the central strip initially designated for the semi-final, was a fresh surface that hadn’t been utilized in the league stage. However, a decision was made to move the game to Pitch 6, slightly off-center, and previously hosting South Africa’s 229-run victory over England on October 21 and India’s 302-run triumph over Sri Lanka on November 2.

The alteration represents a departure from the planned rotation of pitches at Wankhede, with sources indicating that a planned sequence of 6-8-6-8-7 was intended, but the actual usage so far has been 6-8-6-8.

While the ICC’s Playing Conditions for the World Cup place the responsibility of pitch selection and preparation on the ‘ground authority’—in this case, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA)—it is noteworthy that there’s no explicit ICC requirement mandating fresh pitches for knockout fixtures. The only expectation is that venues present the best possible pitch and outfield conditions for each match.

The situation has reportedly caused frustration, with leaked emails suggesting concerns from the ICC’s independent pitch consultant, Andy Atkinson, regarding changes to pre-agreed plans throughout the World Cup. The leaked email hinted at speculation about the pitch for the final in Ahmedabad, raising questions about adherence to stipulations at the request of team management or the home nation board.

“As a result of these actions, one must speculate if this will be the first ever ICC CWC [World Cup] final to have a pitch which has been specifically chosen and prepared to their stipulation at the request of the team management and/or the hierarchy of the home nation board,” Atkinson wrote in an email published by The Daily Mail.

“Or will it be selected or prepared without favouritism for either of the sides competing in the match in the usual manner, and unquestionably because it is the usual pitch for the occasion?”

LONDON – [November 14, 2023] – On November 7th, PUBG MOBILE, one of the world’s most popular mobile games, gets ready to celebrate the holiday season in its festive Version 2.9 Update. From November 7, 2023 to January 7, 2024, players will be able to battle in Snowy Village – a themed area featuring frosty new ways to traverse and take down enemy players, as well as more treats to get into the holiday spirit. Metro Royale Chapter 17 is also on the way, and the World of Wonder is getting new objects and improvements, including a Snowy new template.

In the Version 2.9 Update, Snowy Village invites PUBG MOBILE fans to the ultimate festive showdown! Players can fight in a two-story Ice Sculpture Plaza, and traverse the map in thrilling new ways – from Snow Rails to Snowboards. If the battleground still doesn’t seem cold enough, Snowball Blasters with exciting effects will also be available. When shooting these at enemies, they’ll turn them into snowmen! They can also be shot at the ground to create snowy cover, or at water to freeze it solid.

PUBG MOBILE’s new Version 2.9 Update will introduce:

  • Snowy Village: a new snow-themed zone featuring high speed Snow Rails, rideable reindeers, Snowball Blasters and more!
  • Additions and improvements to the World of Wonder, including a snowy map template and hide-and-seek objects
  • The next Royale Pass Ace, featuring snow and reindeer-themed rewards
  • Brand new partnerships, including an iconic sports car collaboration

Other snowmen can also be found in Snowy Village. Players can come across a Lucky Snowman with three Snow Toddlers hidden nearby. After finding a Snow Toddler, it will follow the player like a pet, allowing them to bring it back to the Lucky Snowman. Finding and returning all of them will reward players with a crate! Even more rewards are available in the Version 2.9 update inside Lucky Ice. Players will need to find the most effective way to break through their icy exterior to get to the prize inside.

As the Frost Festival draws near, Reindeer will begin to spawn on the map! These merry vehicles allow two players to ride together to spread cheer across the battleground. The maps will also be decorated for the season with trees full of presents and stockings filled with supplies.

The Version 2.9 Update also brings a variety of gameplay improvements, including new additions to the World of Wonder creative mode with expanded PvE options, new Editor enhancements, and a new Snowy Map Template, as well as Frost Festival objects. Additionally, new ‘Catch Me’ Gameplay Template updates are being added, along with Skill Management Device improvements which introduce skills related to transformation gameplay.

The new Royale Pass Ace will be available from November 14, 2023 to January 13, 2024. Players can complete RP missions to increase their rank, and receive rewards such as new custom colour outfits, snowbike and reindeer finishes, and more.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has dismissed recent media reports claiming an age limit being imposed on flight attendants on international routes, particularly to Canada.
Addressing the media reports, a PIA spokesperson denied any official decision to enforce age restrictions, emphasising that the airline’s management has not taken such measures.
The confirmation came after local media outlets suggested that PIA had introduced new guidelines to prevent crew members from ‘disappearing’ abroad.
These reports indicated that the national carrier would no longer deploy younger individuals on international flights, with only those over the age of 50 performing flight attendant duties on certain routes, including Canada.
It is pertinent to mention that two PIA crew members, Khalid Afridi and Fida Shah, recently ‘slipped away’ prior to their return flight from Canada as they did not report back for duty.
The PIA spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating that the airline has contacted local authorities in Canada regarding the missing flight attendants.
